Append the following to the end of the rule The Factory Floor:
Unless otherwise specified, The Distance between two Machines is defined to be the shortest number of orthogonal unit steps needed to move from one Machine to the other on The Factory Floor.
Also replace
Unless otherwise specified, two Machines are adjacent if they are orthogonally or diagonally adjacent on the Factory Floor.
with
Two Machines are Adjacent if the Distance between them is one.
Append the following to the end of “Power Links”
If the Distance between the two Machines in a Power Link is ever more than five, the Power Link is removed and the Machine the Link was from becomes Broken. This happens before any Machines become Jammed due to sharing a Link with another Jammed Machine.

First off, moving by 8 is the same as moving in the other direction by 2.
More importantly, maybe you don’t want to establish links? Or maybe you want a link between 2 and 20, but they are too far apart so you need to use the Forklift to move it closer. This takes the movement idea and makes it more interesting.

Its all a cycle. If you shift a row 8 to the right, its the same as shifting in 2 to the left.

A good idea, but a bit risky having this as an automatic “is removed” - if nobody spotted it at the time and we carried on, we’d move into an illegal gamestate.

We already have that in place for links between Jammed machines…
