Add a new subrule to Rule 2.2 (Inventions) called “Flame Vent”:-
Cost: 2 Iron Power Requirement: -10
If the owner of an Invention with a Flame Vent owns an Invention with Wood in its Composition, the Invention with Wood in its Composition is destroyed. (If an Invention with a Flame Vent would have a Power Requirement lower than 0, its Power Requirement is instead 0.)

Put:
so this reduces power requirement at the cost of possibly destroying one of your inventions?

It has the advantage of cheaply reducing the ongoing Power Requirement of an Invention, at the cost of preventing you from owning any wood-based Inventions. In some situations it’s useful, in others it’s not.

Would make it too easy for Commoners to completely negate power requirements

You can only have one of any Part per Invention, so I think you’d struggle to actually reduce an Invention’s Power Requirement to zero. (Even if you bolted a Flame Vent onto Wings, the current lowest-power Part, the Invention would have a total Power Requirement of 9, after you’d factored in the “square of the number of Parts” and “five times the number of different Resources involved in its Composition”.)
