Call for admin support

Before the mid-dynasty crisis, Darth Cliche and I were doing pretty much all of the proposal adminning.  With the additional responsibility of handling encounters, I can no longer keep up with the proposal queue.  Could another admin please step up and enact the backlog of timed out proposals?

Seeing as you were the one who proposed that he stop being allowed to admin stuff….

Since I am pretty busy, the best option might be to make some newer people admins.

I think it was spikebrennan who proposed that, Qwaz.

I’ll unidle once my four days are up and help out.

Maybe we should have a rule (or even a non-binding guideline) allowing temporarily busy admins to mark themselves as such in the sidebar, so that the genuinely active admins know who else is actually around to catch a proposal if they don’t.

But yes, it’d also help to have a general drive encouraging new players to become admins - maybe we should make it clear in the FAQ that admin status isn’t a badge of honour, and you don’t have to be a veteran player to get it, you just have to know how the voting process works and be willing to help out.

It might also be worth allowing idle admins to make (strictly) limited use of their powers - permitting them to administer any proposal that has timed out, perhaps, as well as allowing them to set up new players.

Josh: Idle admins have full use of their powers.

I did not realise that.

Actually, they don’t. Just for unidlings.

I’d propose adding rule 1.5 to the following sentence: “For the purposes of the Ruleset, excluding Rules 1.1, 1.2, 1.8 and 1.10, Idle @s are not counted as @s.”

Well I’ve just admined a bunch of stuff, so… I guess there’s a CfJ to be had there.

Actually I think your first interpretation was right. Idle @s are still @s for rule 1.2, and rule 1.2 says that some @s are admins; rule 1.5 specifies that proposals can be resolved by admins.

The temporary de-idling of DC is in Bucky’s http://blognomic.com/archive/ruleset_self_defense/ although spikebrennan could have been involved, I wasn’t there when it first went off.

I think 1.2 does cover it, although I wouldn’t mind following through on Ienpw’s suggestion.

I would be willing to do some admin work, I’ll put up a proposal.
