Remove any italics which were not added to the ruleset document in accordance with the rules. Admin may not add italics to the ruleset while this proposal is being enacted. (This addresses some of the paranoia over an earlier proposal to remove the italics rule.)
Repeal Glossary Rule 3.1 (Typographic Conventions). If it’s still there after being repealed, repeal it again.
Add a new Rule 3.1, called “Flavour Text”:-
When posting a blog entry, a Scripter may use the “Commentary or flavour text” field of the blog publishing form to add their own comments or description of their post. For the purposes of all other rules, such text is not considered to be part of the post.
... And this is what the flavour text edit field looks like when used. (Jeid found an early version of it by chance when writing his join message.)
This proposal uses a version of ais523’s suggestion from the earlier Flavourlessness proposal. The big assumption I’m making is that we only ever need invisible flavour text in Proposals, and can work around it in Rules (by saying “For example:” or just obviously-fluff “each player has a number of coins, which are made of solid lead and have a picture of a rabbit skull on both sides”). What do people think?

It’s actually pretty good. It still makes it difficult for people to include short, italicized comments in their posts, like the “For Example” bit, as you were saying. Your method only allows flavour text at the end of posts, if I understand correctly?

No, this proposal doesn’t do anything to affect the legality of making small comments in other parts of the post, italicised or otherwise. It just explicitly says that anything entered in the “flavour text” box is never going to affect the game.

“If it’s still there after being repealed, repeal it again.”

In an early version of this proposal, ais523 pointed out that you can’t remove italic text, because it isn’t “there”. The double-repeal is just in case the enacting admin decides that the italic portion of the rule survives the first sweep.
