Proposal: I don’t like earthquakes much

Passes 18-1, reaches Quorum. Enacted by Angry Grasshopper.

Adminned at 05 Feb 2007 14:56:31 UTC

Add a new rule “Hometown”;

All Actors have a hometown tracked in the GNDT column “Hometown”. New Actors start with the hometown “LA”.

Occasionally any Actor may choose to change eir hometown to one of the below;

LA - Home of Hollywood and the elite red carpets.
New York - Home of Broadway and the sub sandwich.

I’d like to see more random things though. Like

Canada - Home of beavers and people who said “Zed” instead of “Zee”.

Of course, we can add hometowns in a flurry of proposal activity, unless someone wants to design a mechanic for adding hometowns in a nonconflicting manner that doesn’t involve everyone having to vote on the addition of a hometown.

Fine, but “Machu Picchu” should really be on the list.

imperial what might the game effect of a particular hometown be?  Is this supposed to represent where the Actor lives now, or where the Actor lived before arriving in Hollywood?

I echo spike’s comment. Don’t rush to approve something that has no effect on the rules. This is equivalent to establishing the “Agent.” There is nothing in this proposal about what the hometown means about you.  against

Sometimes it is fun to state a term in a proposal and leave it up for definition later. You might find that too close to Nomic a la Mad Libs, but I think it also gives us some creative room to play.

for snowball, how does this have no effect on the rules?  The very first line of the proposal is “add a new rule”.  The biggest problem with the Agent proposal was that it just created a new concept without creating a record somewhere in the ruleset.

Meh, I agree with snowball on this, but I’m curious to see how it will evolve as the game goes on imperial
