Proposal: Reward for your actions.

s/k. Fails. - lilomar

Adminned at 09 Aug 2010 23:35:25 UTC

Add a new Core Rule entitled “Ribbons”:

Ribbons are awards for actions done by Citizens. The wiki page entitled “Ribbons” lists all Ribbons of all Citizens. Ribbons can only be gained as described in this Rule and a Citizen may only have each Ribbon once.

If a Citizen has fulfilled all requirements for a Ribbon listed at the end of this Rule they may - within one week after fulfilling the requirements - create a Story Post stating so and adding themselves the appropriative Ribbon. If another Citizens does not agree the requirements have been fulfilled, they should create a Call For Judgement.

Each year on X.X. at 0:00 all Ribbons are considered to be removed. Any Citizen may update the wiki page Ribbons to match that current game state, if no other Citizen has already done so.

The following Ribbons are available:

  • Winning Ribbon: May be gained by a Citizen, if said Citizen has won a dynasty.
  • Emperor Ribbon: May be gained by a Citizen, if said Citizen has been the High Programmer for a whole dynasty.
  • Folk Hero Ribbon: May be gained by a Citizen, if one of said Citizen‘s Proposals has been enacted and all other Citizens have voted FOR this Proposal.
  • Fixing Ribbon: May be gained by a Citizen, if one of said Citizen‘s Proposals has been enacted without any AGAINST vote.
  • Disinterest Ribbon: May be gained by a Citizen, if one of said Citizen‘s Proposals failed because it has one FOR and zero AGAINST or DEFERENTIAL votes.
  • Agitator Ribbon: May be gained by a Citizen, if one of said Citizen‘s Proposal has five more FOR than AGAINST votes, but has been vetoed.
  • Judge Ribbon: May be gained by a Citizen, if one of said Citizen‘s Call For Judgements has been enacted without any AGAINST vote
  • Admin Ribbon: May be gained by a Citizen, if they have been an Admin for the last three months.
  • Last Survivor Ribbon: May be gained by a Citizen, if he has been the only one who created a Proposal in the previous seven days.

Replace X.X. with the date this Proposal has been enacted.

Just another inducement to do something.

for  for  for Yes. Very good.

However, I disagree with “Each year on X.X. at 0:00 all Ribbons are considered to be removed.” I think ribbons should remain in perpetuity. Because of this, I vote against. against

Ienpw III: This could be changed easily in a fix and I would not vote against such version.

But I think it‘s better if you try to earn a Ribbon again the following year.

against This should be tested as a Dynastic Rule first.

CoV for per Keba.

against  on a technicality.  Since this would be a Core Rule, any type of Official Post it describes is not a Story Post.  As a result, it would not be possible to gain ribbons.

against I tried this informally with Chips, in 2006 (more as a Wikipedia-style Barnstar than an Xbox Live achievement), and it didn’t take off. It might be worth another go informally, but I don’t think we gain much by having them as a cure rule - either we have other rules depending on owning ribbons (which will introduce tactical voting noise into gameplay), or we don’t (which makes them no different to an informal out-of-ruleset subgame).

S/K against per Bucky.

[Darth Cliche] It was not intended to become important for game purposes (like owning all Ribbons is a win condition, like in Agora), so there should not be a high problem with it.

I will repropose this. Other ideas are welcome :)

Keba: I misphrased. What I meant was that I dislike substantive core rules; the core rules should be restricted to procedurals.

Darth’s opinion is his own and does not necessarily reflect on others’, though. Don’t interpret the above statement as Law :)

You can just do this… you don’t need to make it part of the rules. We already have Chips on our wiki page that function much the same way

Qwaz: Yeah, and we all know how chips turned out.

Making this part of the rules is fine. Blognomic should change; it’s a nomic. I’ve made this point before.
