Add a subrule to Rule 2.1 (Life in Zahndorf), called “Occupations”:-

Each Villager has a single Occupation within Zahndorf, which is noted in the GNDT. The Mayor’s Occupation is always “Mayor”, and all other Villagers start with a blank Occupation, which is considered to be “Peasant”.

Any Peasant may give themselves a replacement Occupation from the list at this web site, excluding those in the Government, Military and Sailor sections, and those already taken by other Villagers.

And move the two “Call to Action” paragraphs into a subrule of Rule 2.1 called “Calls to Action”, while we’re there.

against The lists are a bit too open-ended.  I would suggest that the list of acceptable Occupations should be no longer than, say, the number of Villagers (otherwise its unlikely that all potential Occupations will have particular unique game characteristics).  Also I’d nix “jew” from the list of occupations—that can’t end gracefully.

I also note that under this proposal, any Peasant can change Occupations at any time, at will—is that desirable?  If occupations are more difficult to change, then it becomes more of a strategic choice to select one.

If we’re unhappy with the range of selected occupations, or uncomfortable with a villager becoming a “jew”, we can always have a town meeting to resolve it.

Once you change your occupation, you’re no longer a Peasant, so occupations are actually impossible to change. If we started giving game abilities to occupation, though, using Call to Action proposals to get the job seems like it would work.

for since Kevan convinced me.  My concern about “jew” as an occupation is that mapping game effects to “jew” could cause misunderstandings about stereotypes—better to avoid the opportunity for that kind of misbehavior.  So nobody should pick that.

Why be a mere papist when you can be Pope?
