Proposal: Tenure Isn’t All That It’s Cracked Up To Be

Reached quorum 12 votes to 2. Enacted by Kevan.

Add a subrule to rule 2.6 “teachers”

2.6.2 Resident Scholar. Each dormitory is overseen by one of the full time faculty. If a dormitory currently has no Teacher assigned to it, then the Headmaster shall randomly assign a Teacher to that dormitory. If a Teacher is assigned to a dormitory, then that information will be noted in the Teacher’s profile on the wiki.

Students within a dormitory may attempt to request a change in the Teacher assigned to their dormitory. As a weekly action, a student may post a comment entitled “Request for Change of Faculty Supervisor” and within which they will nominate a new Teacher, designate a Dormitory (Which must be the Dormitory the posting student resides in) and offer a reason as to why they would like a change to occur.

Resolution of the Request for Change of Faculty Supervisor is handled in the following fashion:
• Students who reside within the Dormitory must vote ‘for’ or ‘against’ the change by commenting on the post.
• If the designated Faculty Member is currently overseeing another Dormitory, residents of that Dormitory must vote ‘for’ or ‘against’ the change by commenting on the post.
• The Headmaster must vote ‘for’ or ‘against’ the change by commenting on the post and his vote shall be counted twice.
• For each Grudge the Faculty Member holds against a Student in the requesting Student’s dormitory, add a vote of ‘against’ towards the Request for Change of Faculty Supervisor. These votes will be tallied by the posting Student and posted as a comment. Failure to do so within 48 hours of the original post will result in the Request failing.
• If the designated Faculty Member is currently overseeing another Dormitory, for each Grudge he or she holds against a student in the Dormitory he or she is currently overseeing, add a vote of “for” towards the Request for Change of Faculty Supervisor. These votes will be tallied by the posting Student and posted as a comment. Failure to do so within 48 hours of the original post will result in the Request failing.
•After a 48 hour period, if the number of “for” votes exceeds the number of “against” votes, then the designated Teacher will be assigned to the designated Dormitory. If the number of “against” votes exceeds or ties the number of “for” votes, then no change will occur.

Append the following to Rule 2.8 “Spells”

Add 1 to the calculated Spellpower of any subject that matches the Field: (Subject) of the Teacher assigned to the casting Student’s Dormitory.

Assigning teachers to dorms is classic Boarding School politics. Plus I think this can set the ground for some potentially exciting interactions and manipulations.

for However, the proposed rule states that all students “must” vote. What happens if some of them don’t? Perhaps that should have said “may”

against This seems a bit complicated for what it does. Also, the request should be a post, not a comment (which is a glossary-defined term).

@ well, pretty much everyone: Ah ha. All very valid points. I flopped around between “may” and “must” a bit and I honestly can’t recall why I settled on “must.” Also, I had meant to write post a post, but in all of the redrafting, that bit seems to have edited itself into an error. Fortunately, I have room for one more proposal in my queue!

CoV for

The way Ambisinister’s second proposal is worded, it won’t do a thing unless this one passes. Since this one requires a titled comment to be made - an impossible action AFAIK - nothing wrong can happen between the Enactment of this one and the Enactment of the other, so I vote FOR.

for Since Brendan voted FOR, all deferential votes are counted as FOR and Quorum is reached, am I right?
