Proposal: The Great Indoors

Reaches quorum and passes, 10-0. Josh

Adminned at 10 Apr 2010 00:18:50 UTC

Add to the rule Locations:

* Indoors: If a Colonist is located anywhere that is considered Indoors per Rule 2.2 The Settlement, reduce all energy costs for that Colonist by 25% , rounding to the nearest integer with .5 rounding up, whilst that Colonist is Indoors.

Reword the last paragraph of the rule The Settlement to:

A group of connected Locations enclosed by Walls, Doors and/or Rock is known as a Room. If any single Location would be in more than one Room, only the largest counts as a Room. The Location of the door of the room is not considered as in the Room.  If a Location is in a Room, that Location is Indoors. Otherwise, it is Outside.

“If any single Location would be in more than one Room, only the largest counts as a Room.”

The largest what?  “Only the largest room counts as a Room”?  “Only the largest location counts as a Room”?  I’m not sure what you’re trying to say here.

That’s already part of the existing rule, I only add “The Location of the door of the room is not considered as in the Room.”

However, I read it to say only that largest room counts as a room.

No it’s not, or at least, it’s not in the ruleset.  It was in a failed proposal further down, but I don’t see it anywhere else.

I see what you meant now - you’re talking about rooms inside of rooms.

Interestingly, this means that you could (theoretically, though it would be a lot of work) build a freestanding building out of walls far away from the mountain and it would be considered “Indoors” even though it has no roof.  Might be good for farming…

Oh, OK, I see where that is now.  I was looking under “Locations”...

for Although this still has the same problem that the walls of the room are considered part of the room - which means the walls outside the walls are also part of the room, and the defined room expands until we end up with just one huge room as big as the mountain.

(Which is fine for defining “indoors”, but it’s not a useful definition of “room”.)
