Proposal: The Tick Tock of the Clock is Painful

Times out and passes at 9-1. -Purplebeard

Add the following three items to the list of items listed in Inventory

Basic Watch (BW): If A Time Monk both possess a Basic Watch and is Occupying Dynasty 100, they may gain one Chronton provided the following are true: The number of Chrontons the Time Monk has gained in this manner since switching occupying a dynasty other than Dynasty 100 is less than five, and the Time Monk has been both possessing the Basic Watch and Occupying Dynasty 100 for at least 36*Y consecutive hours, where Y one more than the number of Chrontons the Time Monk has gained in this manner since occupying a dynasty other than Dynasty 100. This item is a Watch. Each Time Monk may only possess one Watch item. Any attempts to possess this item by a Time Monk who already possesses a Watch fails. When a new Time Monk joins the game, they gain a Basic Watch

Overclocked Watch (OW): If A Time Monk both possess a Overclocked Watch and is Occupying Dynasty 100, they may gain one Chrontons provided the following are true: The number of Chrontons the Time Monk has gained in this manner since switching occupying a dynasty other than Dynasty 100 is less than three, and the Time Monk has been both possessing the Overclocked Watch and Occupying Dynasty 100 for at least 24*Y consecutive hours, where Y one more than the number of Chrontons the Time Monk has gained in this manner since occupying a dynasty other than Dynasty 100. This item is a Watch. Each Time Monk may only possess one Watch item. Any attempts to possess this item by a Time Monk who already possesses a Watch fails.

Counterclockwise Watch (CW): If A Time Monk both possess a Counterclockwise Watch, they may gain one Chrontons provided the following are true: they have not already performed this action since occupying a dynasty other than the one they are currently occupying, and the Time Monk has been both possessing the Counterclockwise Watch and Occupying the same dynasty for at least 48 consecutive hours. This item is a Watch. Each Time Monk may only possess one Watch item. Any attempts to possess this item by a Time Monk who already possesses a Watch fails.

Give all Time Monks a Basic Watch.

Turning the recharging idea into an item so that people can recharge differently. The goal isn’t to make a strictly better watch so that the rich get richer, but instead to just give people options - you can charge faster, but not be able to charge as much without leaving home base; charge slower but bank up more; or charge without returning to dynasty 100 but that is really slow.

This sentence is hard to read, weirdly phrased, and I’m pretty sure it can be interpreted at least three different ways. I think we should make rules more simple.

If you can find a way that avoids it turning into a grind propose something else. I want to avoid the standard “daily action” or “48 hours since you last did this” because that requires you to do it all the time.

Also what are the “three different ways” you can interpret it?

If I recall correctly I did propose an alternative wording in a comment to your former proposal.
(Basically saying you can only perform the action only once, and gain either 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 Chronotons depending on how long you’ve been there, which seems more simple than gaining one chronoton provided you have been there at least one more period than the number of times you have already performed the action)

“The number of Chrontons the Time Monk has gained in this manner since switching occupying a dynasty other than Dynasty 100 is less than five”
I don’t think this is equivalent to “since the last time they switch dynasties”, so does it mean you can only perform this action five times total, even if you switch several times out and back in of dynasty 100?

for I am in favour of recharging, though I’m not sure having too many items in the inventory is really necessary.

Right, your idea only lets you do it once. The “do it again in 36 hours” introduces a time delay (do it in 40 hours and you’ve lost 4 hours).

The switching is a typo. Originally I had “since switching dynasties” but then I felt like someone could argue moving from dynasty 100 to dynasty 100 counts as “switching dynasties”

I guess you’re right that it should be “since they *last* occupied a dynasty other than 100” but that can be fixed later.

Well, in my opinion, “do it in 40 hours and you’ve lost 4 hours” is definitely an encouragement to grinding. But neither your wording nor mine does that.
Mine: you can do it after 36 hours (well it was 48 at the time, but whatever), and gain 1, or do it after 72, and get 2, or after 108, and get 3, etc.
Yours: you cannot do it in the first 36h, you can gain 1 up to once in the first 72h, you can gain 1 up to twice in the first 108h, etc.
The two are basically the same except you complicate things unnecessarily (in my opinion) only to add the possibility to gain the chronotohms one by one instead of getting them all at the same time. I don’t think that possibility really makes a difference - since chronotohms are used to switch dynasties, there is no need to claim your watch-induced chronotohms before you have decided to leave dynasty 100.

For now, but that might change. If we add support for spending chronotohms without leaving your current dynasty mine works better.

I wouldn’t say better, I would say different :)
Mine adds some choice to make for the player: do you need to cash it in now, or would you rather wait a few more 36-hour periods to get as many more chronotohms?

Of course this choice gives an advantage to wealthy people, as they are never in need of immediate cash. But that’s how it works in the real world, and that’s more or less how all of our money-based dynasties have worked.
