A Wanderer on the Road

I will be joining the game .Yes, It appears I start out on the outside of the town. That’s a problem. On the other hand, I’m completely disease free.

I have some questions about the play style of this community:

It appears you do not use win by paradox. Is this observation correct?

Traditionally, do winning conditions stay mostly the same towards the end of the game? For example, just how good of a chance is there of a mechanism for returning to life getting voted in? Or does everyone pretty much accept that they are dead and let the game end with the initial winner, observing a fairly nice looking game that could be played without the rules proposals? Is an unstated goal of blognomic to leave an interesting game system behind each dynasty?

Just trying to get a feel for the community. This is my first time actually playing nomic.

Hello Derrick!

I’m a new player too, and here are my experiences:

-Overall: Really good! Onto the questions:

-There currently is no “Win by Paradox” rule. Which is unfortunate lol. You can pull off paradoxes but they kind of have no effect, resulting in just formal quirks (which are then typically promptly annulled).

-“Traditionally, do winning conditions stay mostly the same towards the end of the game?” No idea.

-“For example, just how good of a chance is there of a mechanism for returning to life getting voted in?”: This isn’t necessarily related to winning, but seeing it become enacted will depend on how many people are motivated to (the two main motivations are imo: self-interest and the sense of justice, and there is a healthy amount of both here I’ve found).

-Is an unstated goal of blognomic to leave an interesting game system behind each dynasty?: Apparently so. There has been a dynasty “without a theme” and it failed real bad due to lack of player input. The theme makes it easier to think things up and have confidence in that it will be accepted because “it adheres to the theme/game we’re all trying to build - I’m doing a thing everyone enjoys!”. Without that “project plan” there just isn’t enough motivation to drive a dynasty forwards I feel.

-I’ll be seeing you soon at the Road lol. Right now the game isn’t too newcomer friendly because the Road rules pretty much bars anyone new from being able to win, but that can change with proposals! (Hopefully lol, it’s up to the votes.). Regardless of that, Blognomic can be very fun to play.

Welcome aboard! Quorum remains 4, I’ll PM you your GNDT password.

No, we don’t have Suber’s paradox victory as a core rule.

There’s usually an unstated agreement to play an interesting game along the way (such that there’s something to get on with beyond building a stack of rules), but no qualms about scamming or smashing things up towards the end if it gets someone to victory.

I don’t remember seeing many successful late-game reset proposals. I’d expect there to be enough of a tendency for players (particularly slightly bored ones) to favour starting a new dynasty over extending one that’s getting stale, as well as some bribing of the excluded majority (“vote against this reset proposal so that I can win, and I’ll reward you in my next dynasty”). By all means give it a shot, though.
