Who can win?

(A= Biggest Avatar, B = Godhead, C = highest quint, D = Greatest City Pantheon, E = End of Days declared in previous age)

Angry Grasshopper - none
Rodney False Odin - E
Smith - none
Chronos - B, D, E
Excalabur - C, D
Truman Capote - D
Hix - none
The Lone Amigo - none
Cayvie - A, E

I’ve painstakingly gone through all the cities and worshippers, to find out who has a chance to win, using city pantheon.

Greek - 9 cities
Norse - 5 cities
Voodoo - 4 cities
ADOM - 2 cities
(Trinidad is contested by the greeks and ADOM, but was last Voodoo so that is how I left it)

Immanentizing the Eschaton

Should we resume the game at a fixed time, so that everybody has a chance to do their thing in a time fashion, or should I just fail Cayvie’s DoV without warning and see who checks the blog first? ;)

Game in Limbo

Hey there haven’t been enough votes on the Declaration of Victory. It currently stands at 4-2, so Angry Grasshopper or Excalabur could decide what to do with it. Or some of you quieter Deities could voice an opinion on it.

proto-proposal to fix a couple of CFJ things, please discuss

Replace the following from law 9

Every Deity may respond to the Declaration of Victory saying whether e regards it as legal or illegal (using the FOR, AGAINST and DEFERENTIAL icons). If more than half of the Deities consider the win legal, then the poster of the Declaration is considered to have officially won the Dynasty - the Dynasty ends. If more than half consider it illegal, and if no CfJs remain pending, however, then the Hiatus ends and the current Dynasty continues.

CfJs continue until they reach a quorum of FOR votes, or until four days have passed, or two days have passed if there is a Hiatus.

There, this not only prevents wins from happening due to CFJs but also reduces CFJ fail limits durring the Hiatus, cuz theres nothing else going on durring a Hiatus besides the CFJs which just slow down game play…  hmm… there may need to be mroe tweeking, as this, in its current state pre and post this proposal can lead to an infinate Hiatus if someone is a bastard… some sort of CFJ ban type thing or else infinate CFJs can be made every 1.5 days…. hmm… we need a fix of sorts, consider this for now, and we’ll come up with more later

very nearly hello

The moment that this dynasty ends, along with whatever goes on now a days to change to a new dynasty, i would like to become active, or if it would be easier to make me active now so be it…. make me active asap, or nearly as soon as you can, etc… good day sir… and i dislike actions that have to happen in the blog, the blog is for proposals, the gndt is for actions, but thats my 2cents and is how i shall be voting in the next slew of things, along with wreaking havoc and atempting to add the word afro to the ruleset… you now know my goals, i hope to help/vanquish all of yours

Call for Judgment: While we’re at it…

Failed due to the enactment of Call for Judgment: Quick Fix. Failed by smith.

Adminned at 02 Dec 2005 14:56:46 UTC

...We may as well define how actions should be taken to prevent further problems.

Should this CFJ pass, add the following entry to the glossary: test

Actions that involve changing GDNT values must be taken by updating the GNDT, along with anything else required. Actions that involve changing pages in the Wiki must be taken by updating the Wiki, along with anything else required.

A action is considered taken after all required updates and costs for that action are finished or payed. If any costs and updates for an action aren’t fininshed or payed, then the action is not considered taken. If, while updating, the action would become illegal to take, then that action is considered illegal and all parital updates must be reversed.

Call for Judgment: Let’s do it right.

Passed, 6-3, enacted by Rodney.

Adminned at 01 Dec 2005 11:48:18 UTC

I know many want this dynasty to end and I think it will, shortly, but we should undo the illegal actions of Cayvie and resume the game from there. If this Call for Judgment passes, do the following:

- Remove the powers Lemon Zinger and Whee from The One Who Kills, restore eir avatar to 370 Life, and set Cayvie’s Quintessence to 1.

- Revert Angry Grasshopper’s Prophecy to Innocence.

- Treat Rodney’s Omen declaration for Ragnarok Call as if it had been declared when this CfJ is passed.

Declaration of Victory: Declaration of Victory

Failed by AG after 48 hours.

Adminned at 01 Dec 2005 11:32:15 UTC

As we are in an age of End of Days now, and I have the most powerful avatar (70) and i changed my prophecy to End of Days in the last Age, I declare victory.

The One Who Kills’s actions today!!!

Create Power: Lemon Zinger (Exertion-Radiate)  -1 Quint
Use Power: Rocket Ship of Doom, sacrificing Smash! to move my Avatar to Uruk and give it 100 Life Points.  It now has 370 Life points
Use Power: Lemon Zinger to give myself 3 Quint, and take 300 Life Points from my avatar +3 Quint
Create Power: Whee (Miracle-Aura: Angry Grasshopper-Festival-Fire-Eclipse-Enlighten) -1 Quint
Use Power: Whee, sacrificing Glimpse and a temple in Trinidad, in order to change Angry Grasshopper’s thingy to End of Days

DOOM! DOOM!! DOOM!!!

After 24 hours, I shall use the power “Ragnarok Call”, spending 2 quint, destroying Glimpse and my temple in New Orleans, to change AngryGrasshopper’s Prophecy to End of Days. This will led to the end of this Dynasty (Finally!).  Please calmly head to the nearest government building and begin rioting in a crazed and panicked fasion. Thank you for your time.

Epic: The Lotus-Eaters and the Arrive at Polyphemus’s Island

When Odysseus and his men landed on the island of the Lotus-Eaters, Odysseus sent out a scouting party of three or so men who ate the lotus with the natives. This caused them to fall sleep and stop caring about ever going home. Odysseus went after the scouting party and dragged them back against their will to the ship and set sail.

A scouting party led by Odysseus (and his friend, Misenus), lands in the territory of the Cyclopes and ventures upon a large cave. They enter the cave and proceed to feast on some food they find there. Unknown to them, this cave is the home of Polyphemus, who was rumored to be Poseidon’s son, who soon comes upon the trespassers and traps them in the cave by blocking the entrace with a boulder that could not be moved by mortal men. He proceeds to eat several crew members, but Odysseus devised a cunning plan for escape.

Proposal: Stir

3-5.  Timed out, failed by Excalabur.

Adminned at 28 Nov 2005 03:07:35 UTC

This Proposal may not be enacted before 48 hours has elapsed since its posting.

Idle all Deities that has not cast a vote on this Proposal.

Give 5 Quintessence to each Deity.

Epic: Departure from Troy

After Odysseus and his men depart from Troy, they are greeted by friendly and calm waters. The ships near land and Eurylochus, convincing Odysseus that the gods were on their side, told him to go ashore and loot the nearby city. The crew had landed in Ciconia. The city was not at all protected and all of the inhabitants fled without a fight into the nearby mountains. Odysseus and his men looted the city and robbed it of all its goods. Odysseus wisely told the men to board the ships quickly but they refused and fell asleep on the beach. The next morning, the Ciconians returned with their fierce kinsmen from the mountains. Odysseus and his men fled to the ships as fast as they could but they lost many men still.

hi

Hello, just thought of blognomic and realized that i missed it.  I dont have time to learn the rules of this dynasty (unless its just begining, if it is, tell me) but i will be back for the next one, to do the things you all love to hate me for, find little tiny exploits and destroy the game, leading to a cfj that makes it as if i never did that at all.

Activity Report for The One Who Kills

Created Power: Rocket Ship of Doom (Holy Day-Eclipse-Movement-Energize) - -1 Quint
Used Power: Glimpse (Sign-Inspire) to create a temple in Baton Rouge - -1 Quint
Used Power: Rocket Ship of Doom, sacrificing Strength From Within (Omen-Self-Leader-Radiate), and moving my Avatar to Baton Rouge, and giving it 80 Life Points
Used Power: Smash (Immanence-Smite) to destroy the temple to Circe there
Used Power: Smash (Immanence-Smite) to destroy the temple to Poseidon there
Baton Rouge switches to the ADOM Pantheon

Omen: Strength From Within II

I’m going to radiate myself some quint tomorrow.

Epic: Illness and Famine

Lands which were once plentiful and lush farmland were now deserted wasteland. The famine had come, slaying thousands, and then the plague, killing millions. No one could stop it. It struck powerful and poor alike, man and child, master and servant. A land which had once been bountiful was now dead, no man, woman, or child left alive.

Disbelief

Struggling to keep up with this properly, I’m afraid - I’ll be back in January. Set me idle, someone.

Proposal: Subtle rule changes

Killed by Angry Grasshopper. Failed by Angry Grasshopper.

Adminned at 25 Nov 2005 15:14:12 UTC

Remove the line

No Power may be created or modified that would result in a Deity having 2 or more Powers with exactly the same components.

from Rule 2.7.

What is the problem with duplicate Powers, now that we have a quantitative limit on how many Powers you can have at once?

Activity Report for 11/23

Odin reaches into his leather bag and pulls out a couple of runes.

The first rune: Uruz. Olympia is struck by an earthquake, which destroys the two unprotected Temples.

The second: Kenaz. The Force Dome around the remaining Temple is destroyed.

The final: Odhal. The last Temple in Olympia is incinerated.

Olympia no longer has any Temples, so Chronos’s Avatar is destroyed. Unfortunately, Chronos loses all of eir remaining Quintessence, and cannot take any other game action until this time tomorrow except such sundries as writing proposals and voting. Chronos now possesses seven temples.

Incidentally, we now have a rule that prohibits the strict duplication of Powers amogst the Deities. What do we do with all of the repeated instances of Sign-Smite and Sign-Inspire? I essentially created a Sign-Smite type power, but had to add an extra component to make it legal.

Incidentally, I have trouble reading English. =P

There is no such prohibition against duplicate powers, excepting a Universal component.

Activity Report for the 11/23th

I’ve just:
- Created the Undo Power (1 Quint)
- Used Fading Away to get ridden of Outraged Mob (Can’t create any powers using either Holy Day, Wrath, Mob or Smite for the next 24 hours)
- Used Undo to destroy False Odin’s temples at Athens, Sparta, Dodona, Troy and Delphi (5 Quint)
- Used Genesis on said cities
- Claimed Godhead (I had 7 temples at that moment, against 5 temples remaing to each of Baron Samedi and False Odin).
- Used Godhead Land to create Olympia (1 Quint).
- Used Genesis at Olympia
- Create 3 Avatar related powers (3 Quint)
- Created an Avatar at Olympia using Wow (3 Quint)
- Glimpsed at Olympia (1 Quint)
- Used Immanent Glimpse to create another temple in Olympia and Guardian to give that Temple a Force Dome.
- Created Blessing (1 Quint)
- Used it in one temple of each of Athens, Sparta, Dodona, Troy, Delphi, Olympia and Kingstown

Epic: The Slaughter

It was a tragedy. Millions upon millions of men poured into a war that had no meaning, a meatgrinder of machines and men where lives were short and pointless. Tens of thousands died in pointless charges against machines of death, guns and tanks and bombs and fortresses. Mother mourned their sons that never returned, wives their husbands, and children their fathers. A million deaths over a minor squabble between petty rulers. It was no honorable fight, and there was no truce and no peace, just endless lines of men charging into battles that were mockeries of honor and courage.

The gods of war wept.

Battle in Uruk

-I create the power Form of Death (Phenomenon-Festival-Presence) (1 quint)
-Create Baron Samedi’s Avatar in Uruk with 350LP. (3 quint)
-Create the power Death Strike (Immanence-Exertion-Attack) (1 quint)
-Uses Death Strike on the One Who Kill’s Avatar, using up 50LP.
-Creates power Deathly Inspiration (Immanence-Inspiration) (1 quint)
-Creates temple to Baron Samedi in Uruk.

Smashing Stuff

Okay guys I made an avatar in Uruk and he accidentally blew up the temples there that weren’t mine sorry

Now everyone there worships my pantheon or something :/

Omen: Strength From Within

In 24 hours or so, I’m going to be increasing my quintessence by 1.

Proposal: Days of Ending

Reached Quorm. Enacted by Rodney.

Adminned at 24 Nov 2005 08:26:26 UTC

Add to the Ages list:

End of Days - During this Age, a Prophecy set to ‘End of Days’ may not be changed. During this Age, if a Deity meets any two of the following conditions, and e was not the most recent Deity to have changed eir Prophecy, e may declare victory:
- E has an Avatar with the most Life Points of all Avatars.
- E is Godhead.
- E has the highest Quintessence of all Deities.
- Eir Pantheon is the Dominant Pantheon of the most Cities.
- E set eir Prophecy to ‘End of Days’ in the previous Age.

Technical Question: Closed Posts

I tried setting the status of an Epic to ‘Closed’ and it vanished from the main page. That doesn’t seem right. I think we want a Closed post to stop accepting comments, or get a marker in the header to indicate it is closed. This would be useful for official game posts which have a status, like the current Epics. Anyone able to change this? I’ve been looking at the templates, but I’m confused.

Proposal: The End of Days

Self-killed. Failed by Rodney.

Adminned at 24 Nov 2005 08:25:15 UTC

Add to the Ages list:

End of Days - During this Age all things come to an end and the most powerful Deities may declare victory. During the End of Days, a Deity meeting the following conditions may declare victory:
1. E must have an Avatar.
2. E must be Godhead or have at least as many Temples to eir current Incarnation as there are Cities.
3. E must have Quintessence equal to the highest value among all Deities.
Also during this Age, a Prophecy set to ‘End of Days’ may not be changed.

Deity Cayvie decides to take an interest in mortal affairs. Quorum is now 6.

Proposal: New Ages

Reached Quorm, 5-1. Admined by Rodney.

Adminned at 24 Nov 2005 08:21:33 UTC

Add the following Ages to the ruleset:

- Legends: During this Age, deities may post twice as many Epics as normal.

- Greyness: During this Age, deities may not post Epics.

Proposal: Legendary Temples

Failed, 4-2. Admined by Rodney.

Adminned at 24 Nov 2005 08:20:10 UTC

Add the following text to the Epic rules.

If an Epic mentions a currently existing city by name, a deity may reduce the amount of Quintessence they receive from claiming domain over that Epic by two to create a Temple to their current incarnation in that city.

Epic: Death of a Serpent

It had terrorised cities. The creature had been the scourge of the sewers, snatching people from the streets then vanishing in an instant. The newspaper called it the Beast, but the people just called it Serpent. How many humans had it eaten and killed? Hundreds, maybe thousands. And now it struggled, trapped in a cave of its own making as the floodwaters swelled. The air dried up. Oxygen leeched from its body as it convulsed in its last moments of breath. As it all faded to blackness, it wriggled, trying to reach the surface.

Its eyes shut for the last time.

The King of Serpents welcomed another of his children home.

Epic: The Defender of Kings

Aho Houegbadja was the third King of Dahomey, which would eventually become Benin. He was wise and well loved by all people, except perhaps by the human sacrifices killed to honor his ancestors, or those sent into slavery by him, or by his many enemies; but everyone else loved Houegbadja, for if they did not love him, they could get visited by his fearsome Amazon guards.

Minadu had been an Amazon guard for several lifetimes. She defended the father of Aho Houegbadja and his father before him, and kings and queens before them. As she sank to the ground, a spear protruding from her belly, she wondered if her next reincarnation would yet again become a royal guard.

Omen: Malediction IV

This use will target the high quintessence Deities: Angry Grasshopper, Excalabur, Kevan and Truman Capote.

I believe that Angra Mainyu has not lost his Malediction power due to the passage of Proposal:Preventing Malediction, because the ruleset says that “a Power being constructed or modified must have at least as much Worship as Might”, and since the Power was legal at the time of its construction it remains so, until something modifies it (like Trickster or Erasure).

Epic: The Locust Chaser

In a nearby village here was a fool who could do nothing well. His father sent him away after the fool had plowed a planted field one too many times. The fool then collapsed a wall while working for a builder, and overturned a wagon while working for a merchant. While begging on the street, the fool met a group of traveling entertainers who decided they could use a clown in their act. They gave the fool a badly tuned sitar, and when the fool played it was music so dissonant that all rats, scorpions and other vermin fled their holes in terror. Although the sound was also terrible to the ears of men, the troupe became known for dispersing pests and were summoned to the City of Uruk to deal with a plague of baby-eating locusts. The King of Uruk paid the fool his weight in gold, but the fool was not to keep this wealth for long.

Choose your domain

There is now a Domain field for every Incarnation in the Deity Wiki, so start claiming your mystical turf if you want to gain Quintessence.

Proposal: The Invasion

Failed 2-4, timed out. Failed by smith.

Adminned at 22 Nov 2005 14:28:05 UTC

Enact a new rule with the following text:

The Dark Legions of the Abyss are preparing to invade the Heavens, but first they must invade the Earth. Often, if it has not been done in the last 24 hours, any Deity may build a Dark Temple in any city. A Dark Temple counts as a Temple to the current Incarnation of the Other, but instead of yielding Resident Worshippers of the Other’s Pantheon, it yields Resident Worshippers of the Dark Legions.

If all Cities have the Dark Legions as their Dominant Pantheon, then the Other may Declare Victory.

If all Dark Temples have been destroyed, and more than half of all Cities have the Godhead’s Pantheon as their Dominant Pantheon, then the Godhead may declare Victory.

Create a Dark Temple in every City.

Passed 4-0, timed out. Enacted by smith.

Adminned at 20 Nov 2005 15:43:24 UTC

Add some components to the list in Powers:

- Immanence: This power must be used in the city where the Avatar of this Incarnation is in. (+10 City Worship, Keyword: Existential)
- Exertion: Reduce your Incarnation’s Avatar Life Points by 10X. This power must also have the Immanence component (+X City Worship. Keyword: Quintessential)

- Energize: Choose an Avatar, and give it 10X Life Points (+X Global Might)
- Attack: Choose an Avatar placed in the same city as your Incarnation’s one. That Avatar loses 10X Life Points. (+X City Might)

As usual, voters on this proposal may list any Components they feel are abusable, along with their vote. If any Component listed in this Proposal is considered abusable by *TWO* or more Deities, it shall be removed from the list when this proposal is enacted.

In Powers, change:

If an Incarnation has fewer than 5 Powers, its controlling Deity may create a Power for it by spending 1 Quintessence.

to

If an Incarnation has fewer than 6 Powers, its controlling Deity may create a Power for it by spending 1 Quintessence. Powers with at least 1 “Might” component that mentions an Avatar are not counted against this limit.

As it stands I cant create any power, nor get ridden of the ones I currently have.

Proposal: Preventing Malediction

Omen: When using this Power the Deity must make a post announcing the targets or other choices e will make at least 24 hours before every use of the Power. E must use the Power with the declared targets within 48 hours of the announcement, or any Deity may force em to use it as declared. (+5 Global Worship, Keyword: Timing)

to instead provide +4 Global Worship:

Omen: When using this Power the Deity must make a post announcing the targets or other choices e will make at least 24 hours before every use of the Power. E must use the Power with the declared targets within 48 hours of the announcement, or any Deity may force em to use it as declared. (+4 Global Worship, Keyword: Timing)

Omen: Malediction III

Once you start, you can’t stop! I will use Malediction on: Angry Grasshopper, Rodney, Excalabur, Chronos, Kevan, Truman Capote, Hix, and the Lone Amigo.

Proposal: Epic Stories Again

Passed 6-0, timed out.—smith

Adminned at 19 Nov 2005 14:05:49 UTC

I still want to add a storytelling element. Temples and Cities are a bit dry, and the game is dragging right now. Let’s make it more entertaining.

Remove the line “Each Deity may often increase every Deity’s Quintessence by one point. ” from the Quintessence rule, and add these two sub-rules to it:-

Domain

A Deity can use an Incarnation to draw quintessence from patterns of the cosmos.

Every Incarnation has a Domain listed in the Deity Wiki. This Domain is a description of a element (be it an event, object, or abstract concept) within an Epic for which the Deity gains Quintessence. Occasionally, a Deity may change the Domain of eir current Incarnation. The Archon or Other may overturn such a change if done within 24 hours.

Epics

Often a Deity may make a post with the title “Epic: ((Epic Title))”. This post should contain a narrative detailing the exploits of a hero or other significant events within the mortal world.

In response to an Epic post all Deities may Exercise Domain on it, by posting any number of comments claiming elements of the Epic which fall within the Domain of eir current Incarnation. After 24 hours the Epic becomes closed and those Deities who Exercised Domain have 24 hours in which ey may gain Quintessence. By default a Deity gains 3 Quintessence per Epic, but this amount is adjusted if any of the same elements of that Epic were claimed by another Deity: if claims were made by an Incarnation with a more general Domain add 1 Quintessence; if claims were made by an Incarnation with a more specific Domain subtract 2 Quintessence; if the relationship of the Domains is unclear, then subtract 1 Quintessence. The final amount of Quintessence awarded may be zero, but not negative. The Other and Archon are the arbiters of whether the Exercise of a Domain was legal, and may not gainsay one another’s decision.

For Example: Gilgamesh gets really drunk and, mistaking a passing crocodile for a drowning maiden, plunges into the river to save her. Deities A, B, and C exercise the domains of ‘animals’, ‘reptiles’, and ‘crocodiles’ on the crocodile. C gains 5 Quintessence, B gains 2 Quintessence and C does not gain any Quintessence. Deities D and E exercise the domains ‘bravery’ and ‘compassion’ on drunken Gilgamesh. Both Deities gain 2 Quintessence.

The Archon or Other may nullify an entire Epic by indicating this using eir veto icon. The Epic then has no effect and all comments to it have no effect, and the poster loses the ability to make another Epic for 24 hours.

Omen: Malediction II

I will use Malediction on Angry Grasshopper, Rodney, Excalabur, Chronos, Kevan, Truman Capote, Hix, and the Lone Amigo. To the Persian-equivalent-of-Hell with you!

Tuesday, November 15, 2005

Omen: Malediction!

As Angra Mainyu, I announce that I will use Malediction on every other Deity: Angry Grasshopper, Rodney, Excalabur, Chronos, Kevan, Truman Capote, Hix, and the Lone Amigo. Since it has an Omen component, the power must be used sometime between 24 hours and 48 hours after this post. It will reduce your Quintessence by 1, unless you have a Quint of zero. Tremble in abject fear, for the curse of Angra Mainyu is upon you… mwah-ha-ha-ha!

Gwydion goes Idle

Not having voted for a week, this Deity recombines with the cosmic essence and disappears. Quorum is now 5.

Proposal: More Orthodoxy

Passed 3-0, timed out.—smith

Adminned at 17 Nov 2005 13:57:14 UTC

I’m trying to express the daily limit clearly and simply.

Change this paragraph in the Powers rule;-

Deities may use the Powers of eir Incarnation at any time - however, a single Power may never be used on a particular Deity, Incarnation, or any Temple or Avatar of the same Incarnation, more than often, nor may it be used to affect targets in the same City more than often. Creating a Temple or Avatar is considered to target it.

to:-

Deities may use the Powers of eir Incarnation at any time - however, a single Power may never be used on a particular Deity or Incarnation more than often. This includes creating, destroying or modifying Temples to that Incarnation, or Avatars of that Incarnation, or Cities founded by that Incarnation. In addition, the same Power may not be used to affect targets in the same City more than often.

Proposal: Ages and Victory

Failed, 3-5, timed out.—smith

Adminned at 16 Nov 2005 15:26:20 UTC

Rewrite the Age of Peace and the Age of Prosperity as:

Age of Prosperity - When switching to this Age, set all Deities’ Quintessence equal to the highest amount of Quintessence held by any Deity, or 10 Quintessence, whichever is higher.

Age of Peace - During this Age, Cities cannot be destroyed. A Power which would destroy a City can be used, but that effect does not happen.

Also add these Ages:

Age of War - During this Age, new Cities cannot be founded. A Power which would create a City can be used, but that effect does not happen.

Age of Tradition - During this Age, no new Powers or Incarnations may be created. Temples may not be converted or transferred from one Incarnation to another. A Power which would have any of these effects may be used, but the prohibited effects do not occur.

Age of Reckoning: ((Worthiness)) - During an Age of Reckoning, any Deity which meets the Worthiness qualification may Declare Victory. If there are several Deities who meet the qualification, any of em may Declare Victory. The defined Worthiness keywords are:

* Age of Reckoning: Worship - The Deity whose Incarnation has the most Temples.

* Age of Reckoning: Godhead = The Deity who is the Godhead.

* Age of Reckoning: Worldliness = The Deity whose Incarnation has founded the majority of the current Cities.

* Age of Reckoning: Spirituality = The Deity with the most Quintessence.

* Age of Reckoning: Potence = The Deity whose Incarnation has the most Powers.

* Age of Reckoning: Avatar = The Deity whose Avatar has the highest Life Points.

Enact a new Rule, “Ragnarok”:-

If all the Temples in the world belong to a single Pantheon, then the Godhead may declare Victory.

And The World Turns Back

Eh, I’ve reverted the Cities Wiki to how it was before Rodney did whatever he did that he didn’t explain the steps of. I’ll leave him to unspend whatever he spent to do it, or to redo the bits that were legal.

Powers fade again

The Universal Component ceases to be, and several Incarnations lose powers:

False Odin (1), Chronos (3),  Baron Samedi (3), Angra Mainyu (1)

The world turns…

...to the Norse pantheon. I destroyed all Temples, then build one of my temples in each city. I now claim Godhead.

Proposal: Orthodoxy

Passed 5-0, timed out.—smith

Adminned at 13 Nov 2005 09:09:52 UTC

For my sanity, I want to slow down the number of daily actions that can be taken. I think this is what the Power limit clause was supposed to do. And I am updating it to include Avatars, as well. And get rid of Universal.

Change this line in the Powers rule:-

Deities may use the Powers of eir Incarnation at any time - however, a single Power may never be used to affect a particular City, Incarnation or Deity more than often.

to:-

Deities may use the Powers of eir Incarnation at any time - however, a single Power may never be used on a particular Deity, Incarnation, or any Temple or Avatar of the same Incarnation, more than often, nor may it be used to affect targets in the same City more than often. Creating a Temple or Avatar is considered to target it.

Delete the Universal Component, and all Powers using it, refunding the Deity controlling the Incarnation with that Power one Quintessence.

Angra Mainyu spells trouble

So pushing the Universal power Component to its logical extreme, I have created a Universal Smite power available to all Deities. So, if you see a Temple you don’t like, Smite it!

I have smitten:

Athens: Chronos, Baron Samedi, Mithras
Sparta: Chronos
Uruk: Chronos, Enki
New Orleans: Baron Samedi
Port au Prince: Baron Samedi
Havana: Baron Samedi
Dodona: Chronos
Troy: Chronos
Delphi: Chronos
Tobago: Baron Samedi
Domnigo Santo Domnigo: Baron Samedi

More Activities

-Used Universal Moves to found Tobago and destroy a temple in Havana.
-Used Universal Land to found Santo Domnigo. (1 Quintessence)
-Used Genesis in Tobago and Santo Domnigo.
-Used Universal Inspiration to found temples in all five Voodoo cities.

As usual, voters on this proposal may list any Components they feel are abusable, along with their vote. If any Component listed in this Proposal is considered abusable by *TWO* or more Deities, it shall be removed from the list when this proposal is enacted.

If those Keywords already exist in the ruleset, add the listed Keywords to the following components (if they exist):

- Keyword “Timing”: Omen, Holy Day, Festival
- Keyword “Existential”: Self, Idol, Tribe

If Keyword “Existential” was added, delete from components Self, Idol and Tribe the text “This applies to at least one choice of Incarnation or Temple in the Power not already applied to (Self), (Idol) or (Tribe) Components.” or correlated phrasing.

If either Radiate, Holy Day or Festival is not in the ruleset, delete any powers using the missing component, refunding eir Incarnation’s Deity (if any) 1 Quintessence per power so deleted.

Proposal: Reinventing oneself

Passed, 3-1, timed out.—smith

Adminned at 11 Nov 2005 07:46:19 UTC

This proposal would encourage switching Incarnations as a way to add/remove powers.

In the Powers rule, change:-

Incarnations start with no Powers, but a Deity may create a new Power for eir current Incarnation by spending 1 Quintessence and constructing a new Power from a combination of the components listed below, and giving it a name of eir choice.

to:-

Incarnations start with no Powers, but at certain times Deities may create or remove a Power of eir current Incarnation. If an Incarnation has fewer than 5 Powers, its controlling Deity may create a Power for it by spending 1 Quintessence. Immediately after switching Incarnations, a Deity may add and/or remove a Power of the Incarnation ey have switched to for free, but this may only be done once per switch. The new Power is named by its creator and must be made from a combination of the components listed below.

Add to the Incarnation rule:-

No Deity may switch eir Incarnation more than often.

Modified (while there are no comments): I eliminated the cost for adding/removing a power when switching incarnations - this is expensive enough.

No Power may be created or modified that would result in an Incarnation having more than 12 Powers.

If any Incarnation has more than 12 Powers remove the lowest total Might valued of those Powers, until e is left with 12 Powers.

Proposal: Or Not To Be A Pilgrim

Passes 7-0, timed out and reached quorum—smith

Adminned at 08 Nov 2005 10:15:08 UTC

[ Overpopulating the world to get extra Pilgrims to overthrow cities is getting a bit tiresome. ]

Remove the Pilgrim clause from Rule 2.5.1 (Conversion), and erase any components that mention Pilgrims.

If any Incarnations have Powers that reference Pilgrims, erase those Powers and give their owners 1 Quintessence per Power.

[ Was going to add a Might component called “Pilgrimage”, but it’s more interesting to give a generic small-temple-creation component and let people do what they like with it. Sacrifice-Holy-Day-Shrine would seem a good analogue for a Pilgrimage, though. ]

Add a new City Might component:-

Shrine: Create one Temple to any Incarnation in any City. It only yields 50 Worshippers, and should be marked with a “*” in the Cities Wiki. (+6 City Might)

And bring back Sacrifice, lessening the Worship to be equal to half a Fire:-

Sacrifice: To use this power, you must sacrifice some of your Worshippers - choose a Temple of your Incarnation and reduce its Worshippers by 50. (Mark it with a “*” in the Cities Wiki.) (+4 City Worship)

And reword the Fire and Mob components, to prevent abuse of small Temples:-

Fire: Destroy one of your own Temples that provides at least 100 Worshippers. (+8 Global Worship)
Mob: Power cannot be used in a City which has fewer than 100 Worshippers of your Incarnation. (+3 City Worship)

Proposal: Divine Presence

5-0. Reached Quorum and Timed-Out.—Chronos

Adminned at 08 Nov 2005 06:43:47 UTC

If Proposal: Avatars did not pass, this one does nothing.

Add the following components to Powers:

* Presence: Chose a City and create an Avatar, with 10X Life Points, to your Incarnation in that City (+X Global Might)
* Movement: If your Incarnation has an Avatar, chose a City different from the one where it currently is. X is the number of temples in that City not dedicated to your Incarnation. Move the Avatar to that City. (+X Global Might)

Proposal: Avatars

5-1. Timed Out and Reached Quorum.—Chronos

Adminned at 08 Nov 2005 05:41:48 UTC

Add an Avatars rule:

Incarnations may have Avatars. An Avatar is the physical presence of an Incarnation in the world. An Avatar has an integer number of Life Points that must be always positive. If the number of Life Points of an Avatar would be reduced to Zero or less, that Avatar shall be destroyed instead.

At any moment, an Incarnation must have only one Avatar. If any game action or effect would result in any Incarnation having more than one Avatar, that action or effect shall be void and null.

An Avatar may only be present in Cities where its Incarnation has Temples at. At Any moment, if an Avatar is in a City where its Incarnation has no Temples at, that Avatar shall be destroyed.

A City where an Avatar is in may never be destroyed.

The Presence of an Avatar shall be represented in the Cities Wiki, besides the Temples listing for that City, by the notation “Avatar: ((Incarnation Name/LP))”, where LP is the number of Life Points remaining in that Avatar.

If a rule allows an Avatar to take an action, that action may be taken by the Deity controlling that Avatar’s Incarnation.

If an Incarnation’s Avatar is destroyed, the following effects immediately ensue:

* Destroy all Temples, if any, to that Avatar’s Incarnation that are in the same City where the Avatar was in just before being destroyed.
* Set the Quintessence of the Deity controlling that Avatar’s Incarnation to Zero.
* The Deity controlling that Avatar’s Incarnation may not take any action allowed by a Rule for the next 24 hours. They can still take any action allowed by a Law.

General rulebreaking

>a single Power may never be used to affect a particular City, Incarnation or Deity more than often…

Chronos, I don’t think that you can use any Power more than often in the same City. As a side-effect, I don’t think that you can legally create two Temples in one City in the same day with the same Power, at least the way the ruleset currently reads.

(edit: After reading through the revisions, I can see that you didn’t actually use Glimpse twice in Ur, but something more subtle. Perhaps it would be easiest for all of us if we put some notice on the front page when we use Powers? I was very confused at first trying to sort out what actually happened.)

Uruz!

Odin, seated upon his throne during a great feast at Asgard, hears word from his ravens that Greek evangelists are oppressing the inhabitants of Ur. The one good eye of Odin gleams, and Ur is shook by a powerful earthquake which levels two Greek temples in that city. The Sumerians drive the remaining Greek hierophants from the city square and make offerings to Enki, thanking him for their salvation.

Call for Judgment: Often-ness, the other side

Rule 2.7 says:

Deities may use the Powers of eir Incarnation at any time - however, a single Power may never be used to affect a particular City, Incarnation or Deity more than often.

That wording allows two interpretations: one, more strict, means that a power like Glimpse may be used only once each day by a same Deity for one Incarnation, even for different cities; other, more loose, says it can be used often per Deity since that Deity targets a different City or different Incarnation.

Vote FOR this CfJ if you agree with the more strict interpretation and AGAINST it if you agree with the more loose interpretation.

If this CfJ passes, rewrite the strip of text aforementioned to:

Deities may use the Powers of eir Incarnation at any time - however, a single Power may not be used by a Deity to affect the same City, Incarnation or Deity more than often.

Make retroactively legal any action taken according to either interpretations.

Proposal: Aura Tweak

4-0, plus 1 unresolved Deferential. Timed Out—Chronos

Adminned at 07 Nov 2005 07:43:29 UTC

If there is a component called Aura, rewrite it to read:

* Aura: You may add a Magical Aura to a Temple that has not one. To add the Aura, chose a Temple belonging to any Incarnation and add an “!” after the Deity name in that Temple’s listing. Only one “!” may exist after any temple’s listing.(+5 City Might).

and rewrite Rule “Quintessence” to read:

Each Deity may often increase every Deity’s Quintessence by one point.

Each Deity may often increase eir own Quintessence by one point for every 10 temples with auras that eir Incarnation has (A Temple with an aura has an “!” after the Incarnation name in the City Wiki).

New Deities start with 5 Quintessence.

—————————————————————————————————-
If any part of the Temples rule reads

If the number of Resident Worshippers yielded by a Temple is permanently reduced to 0, that Temple is destroyed.

then rewrite it to read

If the number of Resident Worshippers yielded by a Temple is permanently reduced to 0 or less, that Temple is destroyed.

Ankh-Morpok was just uncreated

You can only use a Holy Day Power once per day.

trying some abuse

I wanted to see what components I could push, so I created the Traitor Incarnation Circe, who wreaked some havoc with the greeks. Somewhat abusable was that I could use pantheon components to cheaply hurt other greeks, as well as the Reflex component which I could use in reaction to an action I performed as Mithras.

Idea

What do you people think about introducing Incarnation’s Avatars into the Game?

I’m thinking in work it into the Power/Components scheme. Basically, you would have:
- a component allowing you to create an Avatar and place it in a City.
- a component allowing you to move your Avatar from one City to another.
- components allowing attack/defence actions between Avatars.

Having one’s Avatar in a City should result in benefits for that Incarnation in that City (example: More city worship for powers). Losing one’s Avatar should result in major drawbacks.

5-0. Sacrifice found Abusable.—Chronos.

Delete the Lightning component.

Rewrite the Pantheon component to:

Pantheon: Power can only be used to affect existing Temples belonging to other members of your Pantheon. (+12 City Worship)

Add some components:

* Sacrifice: To use this power, you must sacrifice some of your Worshippers. Chose a Temple belonging to your Incarnation, in the same city where this power is being used, and permanently reduce by 50 the number of Resident Worshippers yielded by that Temple. This shall be represented in the Cities Wiki by an “*” after the Incarnation name in the Temple’s listing. (+7 City Worship).
* Lightning: Chose a Temple belonging to any Incarnation. Permanently reduce by 50 the number of Resident Worshippers yielded by that Temple. This shall be represented in the Cities Wiki by an “*” after the Incarnation name in the Temple’s listing. (+7 City Might).
* Investment: Chose a Temple belonging to any Incarnation. Permanently increase by 50 the number of Resident Worshippers yielded by that Temple. This shall be represented in the Cities Wiki by an “+” after the Incarnation name in the Temple’s listing. (+12 City Might).
* Aura: You may add a Magical Aura to a Temple that has not one. To add the Aura, chose a Temple belonging to any Incarnation and add an “!” after the Deity name in that Temple’s listing. Only one “!” may exist after any Temple’s listing. Often, a Deity may gain 1 Quintessence for every 10 temple eir Incarnation has which are marked with an “!”. (+5 City Might).
* Force Dome: You may add a protective Magical Force Dome to a Temple that has not one. To add the Dome, chose a Temple belonging to any Incarnation and enclose its Incarnation name in a pair of “( )”. Only one pair of “( )” may exist around any Temple’s listing. If a power used by a Deity other than the one of the Temple’s Incarnation would target a Temple with a Force Dome, destroy the Force Dome instead. (+15 City Might).
* Mind Control: Upon using this power you may post a Proposal that would be legal if not for the number limitation set by Law 1.3. Said Proposal shall be legal for all purposes. This power must also be either a Holy Day or a Festival.(+35 Global Might).

As usual, voters on this proposal may list any Components they feel are abusable, along with their vote. If any Component listed in this Proposal is considered abusable by *TWO* or more Deities, it shall be removed from the list when this proposal is enacted.

Proposal: Some fixes, again

5-0. Reached Quorum.—Chronos

Adminned at 05 Nov 2005 20:52:24 UTC

Add to the Powers rule:

No Power may be created or modified that would result in a Deity having 2 or more Powers with exactly the same components. No Power may be created or modified that would result in 2 or more Powers, held by any Deities, having exactly the same components if one of them is the Universal component.

If there exists any group of two or more Powers in violation of the strictments imposed by the text above, randomly choose and delete all but one instance of such powers inside each such group.

Add a component:

* Erasure - You may modify one of your existing powers by adding or removing a component from it. (+9 Global Might)

power limits

The overriding limit on any power is it can only affect the same city, incarnation or deity once per day. I think this means that Glimpse can only be used to create a single temple to an specific incarnation, or multiple temples to different incarnations in different cities.

I’m thinking it might be interesting to increase that limit to three times per day (or 5, 7 or some other ‘magical’ number). Otherwise Holy Day isn’t much of a disadvantage, really.

Proposal: Proposal:fix to worshipper calculation

Passed 6-0, reaches quorum. Enacted by Angry Grasshopper.

Adminned at 05 Nov 2005 13:39:39 UTC

Modify the line in the rule “Conversion” which reads

“100 Pilgrim Worshippers for every other City which has that Pantheon as its Dominant one. This number must be capped to the number of Resident Worshippers that Deity has in this City.”

to read

“100 Pilgrim Worshippers for every other City which has that Pantheon as its Dominant one. This number must be capped to the number of Resident Worshippers that Pantheon has in this City.”

Proposal: Old Gods, New Tricks

6-0. Reached Quorum.—Chronos

Adminned at 05 Nov 2005 06:17:05 UTC

[ Giving a use for Godheadedness, a toned-down version of Chronos’s Popularity. Also making Hinder more visible, and reversible. ]

Add a new component:-

Godhead: Power can only be used if the Deity doing so is the Godhead. (+5 Global Worship)

Also amend Hinder to read (or add it if Hinder no longer exists):-

Trickster: Add or remove an italicised Global Worship component to or from any Power - this must be either Sign, Festival or Fire. This counts as an actual component for all purposes. (+50 Global Might)

Proposal: Here Is The Steeple

2-4. Timed-Out.—Chronos

Adminned at 05 Nov 2005 06:16:07 UTC

[ Worshippers are becoming more confusing than useful, I think. Perhaps we should drop the pilgrimage thing, and just go back to Temple-counting. (Pilgrimages across space-time are a bit weird anyway.) ]

Repeal Rule 2.5.1 (Conversion).

To Rule 2.5.2 (Temples), add:-

If a City has more Temples dedicated to one Pantheon than to any other, any Deity may change the Dominant Pantheon of that City to match that Pantheon.

Remove any Worship or Might components that reference Worshippers, and destroy any Powers that used those components, refunding their owners 1 Quintessence per Power.

Proposal: Defer to the Other?

6-1. Reached Quorum.—Chronos

Adminned at 04 Nov 2005 15:32:05 UTC

Seeing as how no one else is writing me into this dynasty, now that I have a minute, let’s try and resurrect my half of the theme.

Add the following as a subrule of rule 1:

A Diety may, in addition to a Deferential vote, add the Other’s seal to eir vote.  This causes the Deferntial vote to be counted identically to the Other’s vote, instead of the Archon’s.  It otherwise behaves identially to a standard Deferential vote.

Malevolent Doom

A feeling of Doom rises over the gods, as they realise a new rival for power has arisen.

Hix is among us.  Fear.

Oh, and quourm is 6.

I’d like to join up this dynasty, if I may.  I just have to post here, yes?

Proposal: Proposal: Barhah

3-4. Timed out. I still don’t know what a Barhah is.—Chronos

Adminned at 04 Nov 2005 15:31:13 UTC

I propose that the Rule be changed to read:-

1.4 Voting

Any Deity may cast eir Vote on a Pending Proposal by declaring it in the comments of the entry. Valid votes are FOR, AGAINST, and DEFERENTIAL, which must be represented by appropriate icons. Additionally, a Deity may cast a vote of NULLIFY, which destroys every vote of eirs on that proposal.  When a Deity votes NULLIFY eir vote is also removed from any count towards quorum, it is as if e has not yet voted. It also must be represented by it’s appropriate icon.

If there exists more than one Vote from a single Deity on a single Proposal, only the most recent of those Votes is counted. If a Deity leaves the game or goes idle, eir Vote no longer counts. The NULLIFY, and any other vote, have no effect after a proposal has been Passed or Failed.

A vote of DEFERENTIAL is a vote of no opinion, or of faith in the decision of the Archon. The vote will count as the same as the Archon’s vote. The Archon cannot cast a vote of DEFERENTIAL. If there is no Archon, a vote of DEFERENTIAL counts as an explicit vote of abstention.

If the Deity who made a Proposal has not cast an explicit Vote on it, eir Vote is counted as FOR.

This proposal will not go into effect when enacted.  It will only go into effect when an icon for the NULLIFY vote has been created and approved in a subsequent proposal.

[This is basically the same thing as an extend debate option, if a player wants to stop something from passing.  It’s a more decisive option than allowing a player to abstain when we still have the DEFERENTIAL option, which was something I advocated in the past.

As for the icon, I was thinking something blue or orange with the same size border as the current icons, and a “?’ in the center.]

wiki down

I was trying to view the history of the city page, when the wiki reported an error with the MySQL link. Does anyone know what happened and what it might take to fix?

Update: Problem went away by itself? Wiki now works again.

Proposal: The Unstoppable Font of Creation

Self-Kill.  Failed by Excalabur.

Adminned at 04 Nov 2005 07:19:59 UTC

Add these Power Components:-

* Eclipse - Deity must destroy one of eir Incarnation’s Powers for each use of this Power. (+8 Global Worship).

* Omen - When using this Power the Deity must make a post announcing the targets or other choices e will make at least 24 hours before every use of the Power. E must use the Power with the declared targets within 48 hours of the announcement, or any Deity may force em to use it as declared. (+5 Global Worship)

* Holy Site ((City Name)) - This Power only works in the City named. (+8 City Worship).

* Self - This Power may only target the Incarnation of the Deity using the Power, or Temples to that Incarnation. This limit applies to all choices of Incarnations and Temples for all Components in the Power. Must be combined with at least one Might Component which targets an Incarnation or Temple. (+1 Global Worship).

* Bless - A target Deity gains X Quintessence. (+15X Global Might)

* Curse - A target Deity loses X Quintessence. (+10X Global Might)

* Purify - Destroy a Power of an Incarnation. No Power using any of the Components of the destroyed Power may be created by any Deity for the next 24 hours. (+35 Global Might)

* Banish - Destroy an Incarnation and all Temples to that Incarnation. (+75 Global Might)

If any Component listed in this Proposal is disliked by *ANY* Deities as indicated with eir vote, it shall be removed from the list when this proposal is enacted.

IN ADDITION, voters may list Components currently in the ruleset they dislike, or find unbalanced. If any are disliked by *THREE* or more Deities, those Components are removed, and Powers based on those Components are removed, and their owning Deity is compensated 3 quintessence for the loss. If any are found unbalanced by *THREE* or more Deities, its Worship/Might value is refigured using the average amount suggested by those voters.

Proposal: The Golden Mule of Perfection

Passes 7-0, reached quorum. Enacted by smith.

Adminned at 03 Nov 2005 12:52:57 UTC

It is bothering me that we have Deity/Incarnation confusion in the Powers rule (and perhaps elsewhere).

Rewrite the Powers rule to:-

Each Incarnation may have any number of Powers, each Power being a combination of a number of power-drawing Worship components and universe-changing Might components. (Worship and Might are divided into two types, reflecting their scope - “Global” and “City”.)

An Incarnation’s Powers should be listed in the Deity Wiki, and should list the components they were made from.

Incarnations start with no Powers, but a Deity may create a new Power for eir current Incarnation by spending 1 Quintessence and constructing a new Power from a combination of the components listed below, and giving it a name of eir choice.

Each component has a Worship or a Might cost - a Power being constructed or modified must have at least as much Worship as Might. If a Power uses any Global Might, it must also have at least as much Global Worship.

If a Power has a Component which gives a variable amount of Worship or Might, the balance condition between those amounts (Worship >= Might and Global Worship >= Global Might) must be true when the power is being used, instead of when it is being constructed.

A Power may only contain one instance of each component.

Deities may use the Powers of eir Incarnation at any time - however, a single Power may never be used to affect a particular City, Incarnation or Deity more than often. Where a Power says that it can only be used in a specific type of City, it means that its target or targets must be in that city.

Replace the word “Deity” with “Incarnation” in the following Components: Leader, Flood, Hinder, Inspire, Convert, Lightning, Volcano

If Proposal: some fixes has passed, then also append the paragraph it added to Powers, changing instances of “Deity”(s) to “Incarnation”(s).

Another change: I’ve removed the line allowing 1 quint to add a component to a power - I think the proposed Erasure component is a better way to do that.

Age of Enki

When the 2 deities were idled, Enki became the most popular prophecy, so we move from the Ageless time to the Age of Enki. Kevan gets the title of Godhead.

Proposal: Some fixes

Add to the Powers rule:

No Power may be created or modified that would result in a Deity having 2 Powers with exactly the same components. No Power may be created or modified that would result in 2 Powers, held by any Deities, having exactly the same components if one of them is the Universal component.

Rewrite the Hinder component to:

* Hinder - You can {Make a Post} naming any Deity. That Deity becomes hindered. All Powers in that Deity’s list at the moment this power is used gains a “Hindered” component. (+50 Global Might)

Add 2 components:

* Hindered - You are hindered and must expend 1 Quintessence to activate this Power (+0 Global Might)
* Erasure - You may modify one of your powers by adding or removing a component from it. (+9 Global Might)

If any Power currently listed in the Deity Wiki has 2 instances of the “Sign” Component, change one of them to “Hindered”

GNDT & Cities

I might just be blowing steam here, but it seems like it might be helpful to put the GNDT to use tracking more than just the Deity data. Couldn’t we make it work where the cities are concerned, too? I’m not gonna lie, I’m having a hard time accessing the Worshipper wiki page (i frequently have trouble with wiki’s, why? i don’t know…), and honestly, without that, all the counting makes this a little bit more complicated than it needs to be. I have some very rudimentary ruby scripting experience, but I keep thinking it might help…

1. Is the GNDT capable of performing simple math? Or is it really just a scorekeeper?
2. What kind of access do the admins have to the server? Is ruby available or installed or whatever?
3. Am I even making sense? Does anyone else find this getting slightly too complicated, or am I just lazy?
4. Is that a bad thing?
5. Is anyone smarter and more awesome than me, and could do what I suggested in my stead, because I might not be able to deliver?

Well, that’s pretty much enough for now, I think. I’m gonna look into this after I finish reading Foucault, or more likely, before I even start.

Proposal: Clarification Of Costs

Self Killed by Gwydion. Failed by Excalabur.

Adminned at 02 Nov 2005 19:50:14 UTC

I propose that the Powers rule reading:

Deities start with no Powers, but may create a new Power by spending 1 Quintessence and constructing a new Power from a combination of the components listed below, and giving it a name of their choice. Each component has a Worship or a Might cost - a constructed power must have at least as much Worship as Might. If a Power uses any Global Might, it must also have at least as much Global Worship. A Power may only contain one instance of each component.

be changed to read:

Deities start with no Powers, but may create a new Power by spending 1 Quintessence and constructing a new Power from a combination of the components listed below, and giving it a name of their choice. Each component has a Worship or a Might cost - a constructed power must have at least as much Worship as Might. If a Power uses City Might, either Global or City Worship may satisfy the requirements, whereas Global Might may be supplied only by Global Worship. A Power may only contain one instance of each component.

Unless of course my interpretation is wrong, or perhaps this could lead to easier abuse of Powers.
