I challenge Thrawn

Thrawn,

I think I see what your plan is.  I’ve moved Pluto into Scorpio, which I suppose you’ll find helpful.  But it also means a sort of time limit, since it could move again in seven days and things will become harder for you.

You would like to choose a free Tome, yes?  If either of your suggestions for Tomes succeeds, you can get one that way.  But maybe they won’t, and anyway accepting this challenge would be quicker.  Plus Soul Duel sounds so much cooler than Promotional Offer.

Proposal: For your own good

Times out at 3-2. -Purplebeard

Adminned at 02 Dec 2006 02:56:19 UTC

Add a subrule to rule 2.1 entitled “Arkham Asylum” with the text:

Occasionally, a student may make a GNDT comment of “Institutionalize XXXX: DICE10”, where XXXX is the name of an insane student. If the student so named does not make a comment of “Resist: DICE10” within 72 hours, or did so but the result of the DICE10 roll was equal to or less than that of the DICE10 roll in the “Institutionalize XXXX” comment, e is said to be institutionalized. Otherwise, the student who made the comment “Institutionalize XXXX: DICE10” has eir sanity decreased by 5. An Institutionalized student may not take any actions apart from attempting to relax.

Add to the end of subrule 2.1.1

Any institutionalized student attempting to relax is no longer institutionalized

Add to the end of subrule 2.6.1

*Making a comment of “Institutionalize XXXX: DICE10” or “Resist: DICE10”

Proposal: The Hounds of Tindalos

Times out at 3-3. -Purplebeard

Adminned at 02 Dec 2006 02:55:15 UTC

Add a tome to the list in rule 2.7.1

Experimental records
*Brew the Plutonian Drug
*Circumstances: No Planet in Sign posts naming a Transpersonal or Generational planet has been made in the last 7 days.
*Consequences: For the next 72 hours, the student casting this spell may make Planet in Sign posts with any Sign named, regardless of what Sign was named in the last Planet in Sign Post that named said Planet. Every time e does this, e must make a GNDT comment of “Hounds: DICEX” where X is 6 minus eir sanity. If the result is greater than eir Mythos, the student becomes lost as the Hounds of Tindalos devour em. Otherwise, eir sanity is decreased by one.

Rules for Obtaining Books (Round 1)

The feeding frenzy begins… NOW!

1)The Librarian is not a Student for the purposes of these Rules, except where it explicitly says otherwise.  (This makes sure I can’t grant myself Tomes.)
2)A Tome is Available if there are more Copies of that tome than Students holding that Tome, including the Librarian.
3)There is a Tome that is the Tome of the Week.  The Librarian may occasionally change the Tome of the Week.  If the Tome of the Week is Available, any Student may acquire a copy of that Tome.
4)Whenever a Student becomes Lost as a result of the Soul Duel spell, the other Student involved in that Soul Duel may acquire an Available Tome of eir choice.
5)Whenever a Student casts a spell that lowers any Student’s sanity (including eir own) to below -100 and causes em to become Lost for that reason, the Student who cast the spell may acquire an Available Tome of eir choice.

and one promotional Rule,

6)If this Rule has never caused any Student to gain a Tome, and a proposal passes which creates a new Tome, and that proposal was not written by the Librarian, then its author gains a copy of the Book of Water if e doesn’t already have one.

Happy hunting!

Does anyone remember what the color scheme of Excalabur’s Second Dynasty (The Insanity) was, more or less? I’m thinking it would make a good color scheme for the current dynasty… but I don’t remember the exact colors.

Proposal: Tome Raider

Times out at 7-0. -Purplebeard

Adminned at 02 Dec 2006 02:52:35 UTC

Another, less scrupulous way to obtain Tomes, this prevents Lost students from hogging valuable tome copies,
Add a new Subrule to the Rule entitled “Law of Loss” .  Call it “Filching Tomes” and give it the following text:

If a Lost Student has one or more Tomes, any non-Lost student may remove a Tome from the Lost student’s “Tomes” GNDT column and add it to eir own, along with a comment of “Filch NDICE20” where N is one plus the number of times he has performed a Filch this dynasty.  This action is known as a Filch.  The student who performed the Filch then loses Sanity equal to the result of the roll.

Proposal: Wanted Librarian

Self-Killed. -Purplebeard

Adminned at 02 Dec 2006 02:50:46 UTC

Add the following subrule to Rule 2.11 call “Coup d’état”

Occasionally, a student may attempt to preform a Coup d’état and seize control of the role of the Librarian by making a comment to the GNDT of “Coup DICE5”.
If the result is a 1-4, the coup succeeds and the student becomes The Librarian. The current Librarian may attempt(by means of a proposal) to become the Librarian again for 7 days. E may still attempt a coup eimself.
If the result is a 5, the coup fails and the student is added to the Lost List.

Either way, after the attempt the student must make a post about in on the blog.

Proposal: Weighted Librarian

Self-Killed. -Purplebeard

Adminned at 02 Dec 2006 02:49:44 UTC

Add the following to rule 2.11

For Librarianship Election, each students vote is multiplied by one plus their current mythos level. A Librarianship Election proposal passes if at least half of the total votes are FOR it, and fails if half or greater are against it.

Proposal: Tome circulation

Self-Killed. Also illegal. -Purplebeard

Adminned at 02 Dec 2006 02:51:29 UTC

Add the following to the Ruleset, immediately before section 2.7.1:

A Student may give away eir copy of a Tome, if e can find another Student willing to receive it.

Rules for Obtaining Books (Round 0)

Here are some rules to get the tome distribution campaign started.  I will post additional rules sometime in the next 48 hours.

1)The Librarian is not a Student for the purposes of these Rules, except where it explicitly says otherwise.  (This makes sure I can’t grant myself Tomes)

To promote paranoia and general insanity, the first Tome of the Week is the Intermediate Guide to Soul Magic.

Proposal: One Regent Per Sign

Each sign may have only one regent planet.  The planet that was regent to the chosen sign before the discovery is therefore no longer regent to it.

Can more than one planet be regent to a sign?

Does 2.2.1 switch a sign over to another planet, or just add an additional regent planet to the sign?  Should we make it more explicit?

Proposal: Pedantry about the Great Old Ones

Times out at 1-5. -Purplebeard

Adminned at 02 Dec 2006 02:47:42 UTC

It seems to me that the prerequisites in the rule about Great Old Ones are intended to put conditions on switching allegiance rather than sustaining it.  The Cthulhu wording leaves no ambiguity on this, but the sections for Nyarlothotep and Azahoth could be interpreted as denying a Student the right to continue serving eir master if eir Mythos or Sanity levels change.  This is a fix.

In Rule 2.12.3, change

A student must have a sanity below -8 and a Mythos of at least 10 to serve Nyarlothotep

to

A student must have a sanity below -8 and a Mythos of at least 10 to begin serving Nyarlothotep.

Similarly, in Rule 2.12.4, change

A student must have a sanity below -40 to serve Azathoth

to

A student must have a sanity below -40 to begin serving Azathoth.

Clarification of 2.12.4 Azathoth?

If any student has a sanity below -50, e begins serving Azathoth.

  * Prerequisites: A student must have a sanity below -40 to serve Azathoth

Is that read as: when sanity is below -40, servitude is discretionary, but when below -50, mandatory?
Or is it simple disagreement?

Proposal: Too Thirsty to Drink?

Passes at 9-0. -Purplebeard

Adminned at 02 Dec 2006 02:45:49 UTC

While looking through the ruleset, I noticed that, while Thirsty students can drink from the water, dehydrated students cannot. I’d like to think that dehydrated students are also Thirsty, but this seems better…

Replace the dynastic rule “Thirst” with the following text:

All Students have a Thirst level, which can be any whole number. New Students start with 0 Thirst. Whenever a Student takes an action defined as “Strenuous”, eir Thirst level increases by 1.

A Student with more than 5 Thirst is said to be Thristy. A Student with more than 10 Thirst is said to be Dehydrated. Any student with 20 or more Thirst has died from dehydration, and is added to the Lost List.

Any Thirsty or Dehydrated student may take a drink from the local water suppy; this subtracts 10 from eir Thirst, to a minimum of 0, but decreases eir Sanity by 1.

2.6.1 Strenuous Activities

Following is a list of activities deemed Strenuous:

  * Performing an experiment on the reservoir

Proposal: I live!

Passes at 12-0. -Purplebeard

Adminned at 02 Dec 2006 02:43:52 UTC

Proposal: Book orders

Passes at 9-0. -Purplebeard

Adminned at 02 Dec 2006 02:40:02 UTC

I would like to start my term as Librarian by adding some new rare books to the collection and making sure it is up to date.
Set the number of copies of the tome “Intermediate Guide to Soul Magic” to 6.

Add the following Tome to the list in Rule 2.7.1:

Advanced Guide to Soul Magic (2 copies)
Spirit Swap
Circumstances:There is at least one Student on the Lost List, and the student casting this spell has not been on the Lost List any time in the last 48 hours.
Consequences:The caster chooses a student on the Lost List.  That Student is removed from the Lost List.  The Student who cast this spell becomes Lost.

Soul Sucking
Circumstances:This spell may be cast in the 24 hours after the Student casting it has been involved in a Soul Duel that caused another Student to become Lost, once per Soul Duel.
Consequences:The Student who cast this spell gains up to half the Mythos Knowledge of the Student who became Lost due to the Soul Duel.  The other student loses as much Mythos Knowledge as the caster gained.

Change the Circumstances of the Soul Duel spell to the following:

This spell may be cast if the student casting it has neither cast this spell nor had eir name appear in a Challenge post in the last 48 hours, and there exists another non-Lost Student (the Victem) who has neither cast this spell nor had eir name appear in a Challenge post in the last 48 hours.

and change the first sentence of the Consequences to:

The Caster makes a post to the blog with title “I challenge X” where X is the Victim’s name.

Call for Judgment: Can planets move backwards?

Quorum of FOR votes

—Hix

Adminned at 28 Nov 2006 06:51:12 UTC

Thrawn moved Jupiter from Leo to Cancer in a planet in sign post. According to rule 2.4 “A Planet in Sign Post which names a Transpersonal or Generational Planet must name the Sign immediately following the Sign named in the last Planet in Sign Post that named said Planet.”

It appears there is a disagreement over weather the wording of this rule allows for either sign, or only the one below the current sign on the Zodiac Wiki.

If this CfJ passes, Jupiter will be set back to Leo and no future “Backwards moving” planet in sign posts will be allowed.

Proposal: The moon is only mostly cheese

Reaches Quorum (11-1)
Enacted by Hix

Adminned at 27 Nov 2006 18:56:55 UTC

Create a Rule titled “The Moon” with the following text, or if the Rule already exists, replace its text with the following and add the text “If any student’s name is on the lost list solely as a result of voting for the Proposal “The moon is only mostly cheese”, any student may remove that name from the list.  If no students are lost solely for this reason, this sentence and the preceding one are removed from the ruleset.” to the end of subrule 2.10.1.

Everyone knows the moon is made of cheese. A student who claims that the moon is made of anything other than cheese, or one who denies that the moon is made of cheese, is immediately added to the Lost List.

If at any time, the Moon and the Sun are in Conjunction to each other, and they remain so for 72 hours, the Sun is said to have melted the moon. Melted cheese rains down upon the Earth, and the moon’s terrible core is revealed, causing every student to lose 10 sanity.  All references in the ruleset, on the zodiac wiki, and in pending proposals to “the moon” are changed to “the moon’s terrible core”, and any student whose name is on the lost list solely for suggesting the moon was not made of cheese suddenly find themselves vindicated, gain 5 sanity, and are removed from the list.  This rule is then removed from the ruleset.

Add the following rule call “Discovery” as a subrule of 2.2

Occasionally, a student may attempt to discover a new planet by making a comment of “Discovery DICE100 DICE100”. If both dice results are less than the students mythos level, the student has discovered a new planet. E must then make a post boasting about eir discovery on the blog. The post must contain the planet’s name, if the planet is Personal, Transpersonal or Generational and the Planet’s sign. If any planet has two or more signs which is is regent to, then the discovering student must choose one of those signs to assign to the new planet. If there is no planet which is regent to two or more signs, then the discovering student may choose any sign for the new planet to be regent to.

Proposal: Making extreme insanity more risky

Passes 7-0 —Ornithopter

Adminned at 25 Nov 2006 10:11:09 UTC

Many of the victory conditions depend on Students being Lost.  At the moment, the only way to lose oneself is to deliberately take a big risk, and the only way to bring about another Student’s loss is by Soul Duel.  Sooner or later, we need to provide more ways of being able to knock each other out.  This will make the relevant victory conditions feasible.

Now, extreme insanity is, at the moment, quite a powerful situation with few downsides.  I think it would be reasonable to balance it out with an element of danger for people flirting with such levels of madness.  If this proposal passes, followers of Azahoth will have to choose what level of risk they’re willing to accept in their bid for victory.

Add the following to Rule 2.10:

If a Student’s sanity ever drops below -100, e becomes Lost.

While we’re at it, there’s a contradiction between 2.10 and the consequences of three of the spells in the Tomes rule.

Also in 2.10, change

The Lost List may only be edited as allowed by subrules of this Rule.

The Lost List may only be edited as explicitly allowed by the Ruleset.

Proposal: Re-Adminify Bucky

Adminned at 25 Nov 2006 09:46:54 UTC

The week after the proposal to strip me of admin powers, AngryGrashopper and I had a chat over the IRC.  It turned out that most of eir complaints were misunderstandings by one or both of us, or were not relevant to the admin issue, and I have made long-term playing style adjustments to deal with the one case of admin power abuse.  Up until last week, there had not been any major need for additional admins.  However, an admin had to unSleep in order to free up the proposal slot for me to write this.

Proposal: The Librarian: Powers and Elections

Timed out, 5-3. -Elias IX

Adminned at 24 Nov 2006 16:08:26 UTC

The librarian decides how Students can acquire Tomes.  Often, e can announce conditions for getting Tomes in the form of posts to the blog.  Each such announcement may override all or part of previous announcements.  There are limits to eir powers, though: e cannot take Tomes away from Students, e cannot grant emself Tomes, and e cannot overrule anything the Ruleset says about getting Tomes.

At any one time, there can be a single Librarianship Election going on.  This starts when a Student makes a proposal with the title “Make XXXX Librarian”, where XXXX is eir own name.  If the proposal passes, the proposer becomes Librarian.

Consequences:The Student who casts this spell rolls “2DICE6 2DICE7 2DICE8” in the GNDT.  If any of the rolls is 10 or above, eir name is added to the Lost List.  Otherwise, eir Mythos Knowledge becomes 20 and e choses a tome and gains a copy of that tome.  Either way, e loses eir copy of this Tome.

Consequences: All Students lose 1 Sanity.
Reverse Soul Blast
Circumstances: This Spell may be cast often if the student casting it has a Sanity less than or equal to -50

Soul Duel
Circumstances:This spell may be cast if it has not been cast by anyone in the last 48 hours.
Consequences:The Caster makes a post to the blog with title “I challenge X” where X is the name of a non-Lost Student (the Victem).  Once within the next 48 hours, the Victem may comment to that post saying “I Accept” as well as some other text of eir choosing, then roll DICE2 in the GNDT.  If the result is a 1, eir name is added to the Lost List; Otherwise, the Caster’s name is added to the Lost List.

Create a new rule entitled “Great Old Ones”

Any student may begin serving a Great Old One listed in this rule, or change which one they are serving, at any time, provided they meet the prerequisites to do so, have a sanity of -80 or greater and are not lost. A student has the Great Old One they serve listed in the GNDT.

*-
Prerequisites: None
Effects: A student not serving any Great Old One or Mythos Race is Defending Humanity. If at least Quorum/2 +1 (rounded down) students not Defending Humanity are Lost, and all non-lost students are Defending Humanity, the student Defending Humanity with the highest Sanity has achieved victory.

*Cthulhu
Prerequisites: The student must have a sanity less than -5 to begin serving Cthulhu. For a student to begin serving Cthulhu either the Moon, Pluto or Neptune must be dignified, or Jupiter and Saturn must be both digified and in trine.
Effects: If a student serving Cthulhu has eir thirst increased by any number greater than one, eir thirst is decreased by one. However, a student serving Cthulhu will lose two points of sanity from drinking, rather than one. If two planets are dignified in different water signs, and both are in a stellium, or three planets are dignified and in a Grand Trine in water signs and there is a conjunction in each of those signs, the stars are right and Cthulhu is summoned: the student serving Cthulhu with the highest Mythos has achieved victory.

*Nyarlothotep
Prerequisites: A student must have a sanity below -8 and a Mythos of at least 10 to serve Nyarlothotep.
Effects:When a student serving Nyarlothotep performs an experiment, e gains two rather than one Mythos if the result is four or less. If a student serving Nyarlothotep has a copy of every tome, e has achieved victory.

*Azathoth
If any student has a sanity below -50, e begins serving Azathoth.
Prerequisites: A student must have a sanity below -40 to serve Azathoth
Effects:A student serving Azathoth may often post a comment of “Mad Ravings: DICE10 XXXX” where XXXX is the name of a student. That student loses sanity equal to the result of the DICE10 roll. If only Quorum/2 -1 (rounded up) or fewer students aren’t lost, and all are serving Azathoth, the student with the lowest sanity and not lost has achieved victory.

Add a new tome titled “De Vermis Mysteriis” to rule 2.7.1

De Vermis Mysteriis
*Summon Star Vamprire
* Circumstances: This spell may be cast by a student with sanity less than -5 if no student is being attacked by the Star Vampire and at least two pairs of planets are in conjunction or there is a Stellium
*Consequences: The student casting this spell is attacked by the Star Vampire. If a student is attacked by the Star Vampire, e may post a omment to the GNDT of “Bind: DICE(M+4) DICE3 XXXX” where M is eir Mythos and XXXX is the name of a student. If the result of the DICE(M+4) check is equal to or lower than eir Mythos, e loses 1 sanity. If not, eir thirst is increased by result of the DICE3 check. The Star Vampire stops attacking em and, unless it has departed, attacks student XXXX. If a student being attacked doesn’t post the comment, eir thirst is increased by 4 and the Star Vampire departs: no student is attacked by the Star Vampire. If a student becomes dehydrated because of the Star Vampire, e is added to the Lost List and the Star Vampire departs.

Proposal: More tomes

Timed out (3-5)
Failed by Hix

Adminned at 16 Nov 2006 20:52:47 UTC

Add the following tomes to the list in Rule 2.7.1:

Nine Princes in Amber(2 copies)
Walk the Pattern
Circumstances:This spell may be cast once per Dynasty per Student
Consequences:The Student who casts this spell rolls “2DICE6 2DICE7 2DICE8” in the GNDT.  If any of the rolls is 10 or above, eir name is added to the Lost List.  Otherwise, eir Mythos Knowledge becomes 20 and e choses a tome with unlimited copies and gains a copy of that tome.  Either way, e loses eir copy of this Tome.

Beginner Guide to Soul Magic
Soul Blast
Circumstances: This Spell may be cast if the student casting it has a Sanity greater than -50
Consequences: All Students lose 1 Sanity
Reverse Soul Blast
Circumstances: This Spell may be cast often if the student casting it has a Sanity less than or equal to -50
Consequences: All Students gain 2 Sanity and 1 Thirst.  The Student casting this gains an additional 3 Thirst.  If this makes em dehydrated, e becomes Lost.

Intermediate Guide to Soul Magic
If the result is a 1, eir name is added to the Lost List; Otherwise, the Caster’s name is added to the Lost List.

unfortunately, size limits keep me from proposing the Advanced Guide also

Add a Tome called “Book of Octarine” to the list of Tomes.  Move the “Slow Mass Murder” spell (including circumstances and consequences) from the “Unaussprechlichen Kulten” Tome to the “Book of Octarine” Tome.

Add a paragraph to the Tomes rule, after “Unaussprechlichen Kulten (3 Copies)”, and before the list of spells for “Unaussprechlichen Kulten”, reading:

If any Student has authored at least 2 Enacted Proposals among the 11 previous non-Pending Proposals; has not authored any Failed Proposals among the 11 previous non-Pending Proposals; and does not possess a copy of “Unaussprechlichen Kulten”, e may gain a copy of “Unaussprechlichen Kulten” (even if this temporarily puts the total number of copies above 3).  If there are ever more than 3 copies of “Unaussprechlichen Kulten” possessed by Students, then all such copies are removed from possession, except for copies possessed by the 3 Students who have most recently authored an Enacted Proposal (among students with copies of “Unaussprechlichen Kulten”).

If at least 4 comments containing counted votes on this proposal contain the text “no headstart”, then this proposal never counts as one of the 11 previous non-Pending Proposals for the purposes of the added paragraph.

Increase by 3 the thirst of any Student who is active, or has requested to become sleeping since this proposal was posted.  (If any such students are sleeping, this change to GNDT values overrides any rules saying that sleeping students do not count as students, or that their personal gamestates retain the same values they had immediately prior to their sleeping.)

How about this?

Lemme know what you think. Does this make getting Tomes hard enough?

Create a sub rule of rule 2.7 called Discovering Tomes.

Occasionally, a student may make a comment to the GNDT of “Researching Level X: DICE20 DICE20”. This is a Strenuous action. Upon doing so, e must lower eir mythos level by X. (And thus, a student must have mythos level of at least X in order to Research Level X).

If both dice results are equal to or below X, a new tome is discovered. The student who did the researching must choose any available tome(a tome is considered available if it is currently part of a Tome Discovery Post, and is not currently owned by another student)  and make a post to blog titled “A Tome has been Discovered!”. The subject of the “Tome Discovery” post must contain the name of the tome which the student has chosen.

For the next 48 hours, any student may add a comment to the Tome Discovery Post of “BID: X” or “SUPPORT (name of another student): X”. X is the amount of Sanity they are willing to pay in exchange for the tome.

A comment of “BID: X” is called a Bid. Each successive bid(plus all supporting bids for the bidding student) must be greater than the sum of bid placed by the previous student plus all supporting bids for that student.
A comment of “SUPPORT (name of another student): X” is called a Supporting Bid. Supporting Bid’s add to the bid of the student named by the Supporting Bid.

A student may support the same person in two supporting bids. When this happens, both supporting bids are counted.

Neither Bids nor Supporting Bids can be withdrawn. A student cannot name eimself in a supporting bid.

After 48 hours, the bidding is said to have entered its second stage. While in its second stage, if there is a period of four hours in which no bid takes place, then the bidding is said to have ended and the tome is given to the holder of the highest total bid.(The bid of that student plus the bid of all supports) and the appropriate sanity value is removed from the bidders.

If 48 go by and no one places a bid, the tome is given to the student who did the research, free of charge.

Create a new subrule of 2.1 called “Brain Death”.

Any student with below -500 sanity is said to be Brain Dead. If they do not raise their sanity above -500 in 72 hours, that student is added to the lost list

(This is to prevent bidding from going onto infinity).

Add the following to the list of Tomes in Rule 2.7.1:

Book of Sponges (3 copies)

Circumstances: This may be cast occasionally.
Consequences: The Student casting this spell reduces eir Thirst by five. If, by doing this, eir Thirst would become negative, eir Thirst is reduced to zero.  Another Student’s Thirst is increased by as much as the first student’s thirst was reduced by.

Add the following to the list of tomes in Rule 2.7.1:

Book of Fire (1 Copy)

Spell: Demon Summoning

Circumstances: This Spell may be cast occasionally when a planet is dignified in a Fire sign and may be cast often when Sun, Mars and Jupiter form a Grand Trine.
Consequences: The Student who casts this spell makes a DICE100 roll against another Student (or against emself if e so wishes). If the result is less than the difference between the victim student’s sanity and zero, then the victim is captured by demons and added to the Lost List.

eg. if Student A is casting this spell on Student B and Student B has a sanity of -40 then a DICE100 roll of 39 or less would see Student B ‘captured by demons’

This spell automatically succeeds against students with a sanity below -100 and automatically fails against students with a sanity above -2. On each attempt, the spell can be cast against as many students as the caster wishes, but may only be cast a maximum of once against each student.

When casting, the caster must make a post in the following format:

[victim 1 name] [DICE100 result] [Success/Failure]
[victim 2 name] [DICE100 result] [Success/Failure] etc.

Add the following subrule to the Law of Loss as 2.10.1 if ‘The Hunted Nomic’ fails and 2.10.2 if ‘The Hunted Nomic’ succeeds:

A Student may be added to the Lost List as the result of being ‘captured by demons’ as per the rules for the Book of Fire.

2.10.1 The Hunted Nomic
A lost Student may Hunt another (not lost, not sleeping) Student (e can not Hunt more than one Student at a time).

The hunted Student name is tracked in the GNDT under the “Hunts” field (of the hunting Student). If a Student doesn’t hunt anybody, eir “Hunts” field is “-”. If the hunted Student becomes lost or is sleeping, the “Hunts” field is set to “-” by an Admin. All new Students begin with eir “Hunts” field set to “-”.

A lost Student may occasionally change eir “Hunts” field to “-” or to the name of another (not lost, not sleeping) Student.

A Student may occasionally decrease by 1 the Sanity of the Student e Hunts to a minimum of 0. E must post about it in the blog.

Discussion:How should we get Tomes?

(comments and proposals welcome)

Should finding tomes be:
1)Strenuous?
2)Easier for insane Students?
3)A cooperative activity?
4)Completely random?
5)based on mythos knowledge?
6)by Rodney’s permission only?
7)the result of a Sanity bidding war?

Adminned at 14 Nov 2006 14:42:55 UTC

Add the following tomes to the list in Rule 2.7.1:

Book of Water(3 copies)
Condensation
Circumstances:This spell may be cast if the Student casting it has a positive Thirst, has a nonzero mythos knowledge, and has not cast Alertness Ritual, Condensation or Douse in the last N hours, where N is 48 if e has ever cast the Drink the Book spell or 72 otherwise.
Consequences:Decrease the Thirst of the Student who cast this spell by 2.

Douse
Circumstances: This spell may be cast if the Student casting it has a mythos knowledge of at least 7 and has not cast Alertness Ritual, Condensation or Douse in the last N hours, where N is 48 if e has ever cast the Drink the Book spell or 72 otherwise.
Conequences:  The Student who cast this spell chooses another Student. Ten liters of ice water appear directly above their head.  That Student loses 2 Sanity, plus 2 more if this spell has never been cast on them before.

Alertness Ritual
Circumstances:This spell may be cast if the Student casting it has a mythos knowledge of at least 4 and has not cast Alertness Ritual, Condensation or Douse in the last N hours, where N is 48 if e has ever cast the Drink the Book spell or 72 otherwise.
Consequences:The Student who cast this dunks eir face in a bucket of water. The Student who cast this spell is cured of Drowsiness, if e had either.  If this is cast immediately after this Student lost 6 Sanity due to the Rule entitled “Theraputic Isolation”, e regains 3 of the lost Sanity.

Drink the Book
Circunstances:This spell may be cast if the Student casting it has a mythos knowledge of 20.
Consequences:The Student who cast this spell has eir Thirst set to 0.  The Student who cast this spell loses eir copy of this tome.

Book of Paper
Reading the Blank Page
Circumstances:This spell may be cast if the Student casting it has a Sanity less than -50.
Consequences:The Student who cast this spell makes a post to the front page describing a fantastic piece of writing they swear appears on that particular page under the right circumstances. (The page is, of course, always blank to sane Students…)

Proposal: One major tome

Timed out (2-9)
Failed by Hix

Adminned at 11 Nov 2006 11:53:09 UTC

Since this Tome is somewhat more powerful than the other 2, I’m proposing it separately and putting an additional restriction on it.

Add the following tome to the list in Rule 2.7.1:
Book of Water(3 copies)
Condensation
Circumstances:This spell may be cast if the Student casting it has a positive Thirst, has a nonzero mythos knowledge, and has not cast Alertness Ritual, Condensation or Douse in the last 72 hours.
Consequences:Decrease the Thirst of the Student who cast this spell by 2.

Conequences:  The Student who cast this spell chooses another Student. Ten liters of ice water appear directly above their head.  That Student loses 1 Sanity, plus 2 more if this spell has never been cast on them before.

Alertness Ritual
Circumstances:This spell may be cast if the Student casting it has a mythos knowledge of at least 4 and has not cast Alertness Ritual, Condensation or Douse in the last 72 hours.
Consequences:The Student who cast this dunks eir face in a bucket of water. The Student who cast this spell is cured of Sleep or Drowsiness, if e had either.  If this is cast immediately after this Student lost 6 Sanity due to the Rule entitled “Theraputic Isolation”, e regains 3 of the lost Sanity.

Drink the Book
Circunstances:This spell may be cast if the Student casting it has a mythos knowledge of 20.
Consequences:The Student who cast this spell has eir Thirst set to -10.  The Student who cast this spell loses eir copy of this tome.  For the rest of the Dynasty, that Student casts spells from the Book of Water as if all instances of “72 hours” in the spells’ Circumstances were “48 hours” instead

Self-Control Exercise
Circumstances:This spell may be cast if the Student casting it has not been under any effect of a Self-Control Exercise for 24 hours, and has a mythos knowledge less than 5.
Consequences: If the Student casting this spell has a Sanity between -20 and 0, treat it as 0 for any Sanity checks in the next 12 hours, after which it returns to its original value, modified by any Sanity changes that happened in the meantime.  Otherwise, the Student casting this spell may undo one effect of having a negative sanity that occured in the last hour.

Circumstances:This spell may be cast if the Student casting it has a Sanity less than -50.

Add a sub rule to rule 2.10 “Law of Loss”, titled “Life and Death”

All Students have a health level between -5 and 10. A new student starts with a health of 10. A student may often increase eir Health by one unless eir health is 0 or lower. This is a strenuous action. If a dehydrated student’s thirst is increased, eir Health is decreased by the same amount. A student with 0 health or lower is lost. A student with -5 health has been completely destroyed and cannot have eir health increased in any way.

Set all student’s health to 10
There are health levels below 0 in case someone tries to be a reanimator, creates a spell to return the dead to life or is a powerful wizard who can move around even after death

More Tome ideas

Book of Water
Condensation
Circumstances:This spell may be cast if the Student casting it has a positive Thirst and has not cast either Condensation or Douse in the last 72 hours.
Consequences:Decrease the Thirst of the Student who cast this spell by 2.

Douse
Circumstances: This spell may be cast if the Student casting it has not cast either Condensation or Douse in the last 72 hours.
Conequences:  The Student who cast this spell chooses another Student. Ten liters of ice water appear directly above their head.  That Student loses 1 Sanity, plus 2 more if this spell has never been cast on them before.

Tome Ideas

I don’t want to propose this because it contains several ideas for tomes, some of which people might like and some of which they might not like and so I don’t want a proposal with some good ideas to fail because of the bad ones. I also can’t really think of Tomish names for them…

Conductor of the Spheres
Spherical Disorder:
Circumstances: This spell may be cast occasionally when the number of planets in Detriment minus the number of Dignified planets is at least four.
Consequences: The student casting this spell must roll a DICE12 for each planet, setting that planet’s sign to the value of the dice roll as counted from order listed in the ruleset. So if the result for Pluto is a 7, Pluto’s sign will become Libra.. For the purposes of rule 2.4, it is considered that every planet has been “named” even though a planet in sign post never happened. E also loses sanity equal to the average(rounded down) of all the rolls.

Spherical Melody:
Circumstances: This spell may be cast occasionally when the number of Dignified planets minus the number of planets in Detriment is at least four.
Consequences: The student casting this spell may make a Planet in Sign post which would otherwise be against the rules outlined in rule 2.4.(So he could move a planet before its time is up, make a second Planet in Sign Post, or do both). If e makes a planet Dignified or no longer in Detriment, e loses 3 sanity. If e puts a planet in Detriment or e makes a planet no longer Dignified, e loses 7 sanity. Elsewise, e loses 5 sanity.

The Tome of Mischief (2 copies)

Zodical Mischief
Circumstances: This spell may be cast occasionally when the four generational planets form a Grand Cross
Consequences: The caster of the spell loses 3 sanity, e may switch the order of two neighboring signs, effectively changing which set of signs are opposite, quadrate and trine.

I have few other ideas, but havn’t quite figured out how they would work yet. So yeah, lemme know what you think of these two tomes so I can fix them and turn them into a real proposal.

Each student may have a planetary focus which is tracked in the GNDT in a column called “Focus”.
A student may occasionally change eir focus to any planet currently listed in Rule 2.2 “Planets” or to “No Focus”.
When a student has selected a Focus, it is said that e is “Focusing on” that planet.
New students start with “No Focus”.

Add a subset of this rule called “The effects of focus” which says

Often, if the planet which a student is focusing on is Dignified, then e may increase eir sanity by one.
Often, if the planet which a student is focusing on is Detriment, then any other student may decrease that student’s sanity by one.
If another student is studying a planet which is in Mutual Reception to the planet which a student is focusing on; then that student may change the focus of the other student to match eir own focus.

* Choose another student and decrease eir Sanity by 1 for each Malefic Planet that is Dignified.

* If the Moon is Dignified, decrease every student’s Sanity by 1.

There is an article on the Wiki with the title “The Lost List”.  Any Student whose name appears in this article is Lost.  Lost students have died, gone catatonic, had their soul eaten by demons etc.  The Lost List may only be edited as allowed by subrules of this Rule.

If the Lost List contains any Students’ names when this proposal passes, remove those students names from the Lost List.

I’m thinking later we could add “Lost Students may not achieve victory” or something similar, but it’s too soon to think about victory conditions.

Add a new rule entitled “Things Man Was Not Meant To Know”

Each Student has a mythos knowlege between 0 and 20, with new students having a mythos knowlege of 0. If a student’s mythos knowlege is greater than 8 and eir sanity is above 4 eir sanity is reduced to 4. If a student’s mythos knowlege is greater than 15 and eir sanity is above 3 eir sanity is reduced to 3.

Add a new rule entitiled “Scientific Experiments”.

A student may often perform an experiment on the reservoir water by posting a comment of “Experiment: DICE10”. If the result of the check is eight or lower the student’s mythos knowlege is increased by one. If not, eir sanity is decreased by one

Set all student’s mythos knowlege to 0

If the rule “Eldritch Tomes” exists, add to it the words

A student may search for a tome by posting a comment of “Research: DICE10” to the GNDT. If a Student has already done so within the previous 24 hours, this is Strenuous. If the result of the DICE10 check is 10, the Student may gain possession of one tome of their choice.

3-4. 2 non resolved Imperial. Timed out.—Chronos

Adminned at 07 Nov 2006 04:31:43 UTC

If “Proposal: Tomes” has not been Enacted, the rest of this Proposal does nothing.

Rewrite the main body of the “Eldritch Tomes” rule to:

Listed under this rule are Eldritch Tomes which copies may be gained by a Student at times when the Ruleset allows such an action.  The Tomes copies possessed by a Student are tracked in the GNDT, under the field “Tomes”.  If any action would cause a Student to have more than 1 copy of the same Tome, it instead causes that Student to have exactly 1 copy of that Tome.  New Students start with no Tomes, signaled by a “-” in the GNDT.

A Tome may list a set of Spells that may be cast by a Student that possesses a copy. Each Spell may list a set of circumstances that must be true so such Spell can be cast and must list a set of consequences of casting such Spell.

A Tome may list “(X Copies)” after its name.  If any action would cause some Students to gain copies of such a Tome, putting the total number of Students with copies of that Tome above X, it instead causes no Students to gain copies of that Tome.

If any Student gains a copy of Necronomicon, that Student immediately loses 66 Sanity and loses possession of the Necronomicon copy.

.
Add to the sub-rule “Tomes”:

* Tome: Necronomicon (1 Copies)

,
changing the format of this addition if necessary to conform with that of other Tomes listed in the sub-rule.

Uranus in Virgo

Please, no snickering.

In the rule “Music of the Spheres” change the text “If a Transpersonal Planet has already been named in the last 72 hours” to read “If a Transpersonal Planet has already been named in the last 3 days”.

Sun in Taurus

Grand Trine!  Neat!

Pluto in Virgo

And thus Pluto and Eris are in a trine.

Moon in Cancer

So it is.

Mercury in Aquarius

There’s a link up on the sidebar to a Zodiac Wiki for keeping track of the Planets’ alignments.  It’s not the official authority on the alignments (maybe it should be?), but I’ll update it frequently.  Please help out by recording any Planetary motion you are responsible for.

Proposal: The Man in the Yellow Hat

6-0. Timed-Out.—Chronos

Adminned at 06 Nov 2006 06:19:13 UTC

If Proposal: Tomes did not pass, this proposal does nothing.

Add to the subrule “Tomes”:

The King in Yellow
*Reading the play
**Circumstances: This spell may occasionally be cast when moon is in a water or cardinal sign and cast often when the moon is dignified.
**Consequences: The Student casting this spell loses 11 sanity, and is immune to changes in sanity except those caused by casting spells from this tome for the remainder of the current day and, if less than six hours remain in the current day, the following day.
*Quoting the play aloud
**Circumstances: A Student may cast this spell three times during a day in which e has already cast “reading the play”.
**Consequences: The Student casting this spell loses 1 sanity.  E then chooses another Student, and that Student loses 1 sanity to a minimum of -1.

Reformat other entries in the “tomes” sub-rule, including examples, to match the formatting used in this proposal.

Eris in Capricorn

Proposal: Permutations

Adminned at 05 Nov 2006 17:14:27 UTC

In the Rule “Planets”, rewrite the list of Planets so it reads:

* Moon (P) - Cancer
* Mercury (P) - Gemini, Virgo
* Venus (P) - Taurus, Libra
* Sun (P) - Leo
* Mars (P) - Aries, Scorpio
* Jupiter (T) - Sagittarius, Pisces
* Saturn (T) - Capricorn, Aquarius
* Uranus (G) - Aquarius
* Neptune (G) - Pisces
* Pluto (G) - Scorpio
* Eris (G) - Libra

Add to the end of the “Planets” rule:

A Planet may be Regent to one or more Signs. The Signs each Planet is Regent of are listed after their name in the list above.

When a Planet is in a Sign it’s Regent of, it’s said to be Dignified. When a Planet is in a Sign Opposite to one it’s Regent of, it’s said to be in Detriment.

If 2 Planets are each in a Sign the other is Regent of, those 2 Planets are said to be in Mutual Reception.

Venus and Jupiter are said to be Benefic Planets, respectively the Lesser and the Greater Benefic. Mars and Saturn are said to be Malefic Planets, respectively the Lesser and the Greater Malefic.

If the Proposal titled “Complex Configurations, A Wiki, and other quality elements.” failed, add a paragraph to the end of the “Music of the Spheres” rule reading:

Once such a post has been made, [Planet] is considered to be in [Sign].  Any given planet may be in at most one Sign at a time.  All Students are encouraged to update the Zodiac Wiki to indicate which Planets are in each Sign.

I promise this is my last addiction to the Planet/Signs mechanics. Let’s create some Spells now.

Proposal: Tomes

7-0, a unanimous “unitalicize”. Reaches quorum - Elias IX

Adminned at 05 Nov 2006 17:12:20 UTC

Add a Rule “Eldritch Tomes”:

Listed under this rule are Eldritch Tomes which copies may be possessed by a Student. The Tomes copies possessed by a Student are tracked in the GNDT, under the field “Tomes”. New Students start with no Tomes, which is signaled by a “-“ in the GNDT.

A Tome may list a set of Spells that may be cast by the Student that possesses it. Each Spell may list a set of circumstances that must be true so such Spell can be cast and must list a set of consequences of casting such Spell.

A Tome may list a “(X Copies)” entry after its name, where “X” is the max number of Students that may possess copies of that Tome at a said time. If no such an entry is listed, no more than one Students may possess a copy of that Tome at a said time.

Add a Sub-Rule “Tomes” to the rule “Eldritch Tomes”:

* Tome: Unaussprechlichen Kulten (3 Copies)
** Spell: To call forth the Gods of Darkness
** Circumstances: This Spell may be cast often while the Moon and the Sun are in Conjunction,
** Consequences: The Student casting this Spell loses 1 point of Sanity. E is allowed to post, in the next 2 hours after the Casting, one extra proposal over the limits set by Rule 1.3.

If more than half of all comments containing counted votes also contain the text “Unitalicize”, unitalicize the italicized text above.

Create a GNDT field “Tomes”. Set all Students Tomes to “-“.

Note this makes no provision about how can a Student get ahold of a Tome

Er, sorry.

I apologize for the recent color mix-ups; I was playing with the color scheme and initially broke it. Finally, I ended up with this color scheme which, by the way, is only temporary. Rodney, being Director, is the one with full control over the stylesheet.

Once again, apologies.

Createa new rule entitled “Thirst”

All Students have a Thirst level, which can be any whole number. New Students start with 0 Thirst. Whenever a Student takes an action defined as “Strenuous”, eir Thirst level increases by 1.

A Student with more than 5 Thirst is said to be Thristy. A Student with more than 10 Thirst is said to be dehydrated.

Any Thirsty student may take a drink from the local water suppy, this sets eir Thirst to 0 but decreases eir Sanity by 1.

Create a new GNDT column labeled Thirst, set it to 0 for everyone.

Proposal: Complex Configurations, A Wiki, and other quality elements.

8-1, reaches quorum. - Elias IX

Adminned at 05 Nov 2006 12:31:30 UTC

If “Proposal: Music of the Spheres” has not been Enacted, the rest of this proposal does nothing.

Change text of the “Signs” rule to:

The Signs are Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpius, Sagittarius, Capricornus, Aquarius, and Pisces.

For all purposes, the Signs are construed to form a cyclicly ordered list, as given in the previous paragraph, and in which the Sign of Aries immediately follows the Sign of Pisces.

The Elements are Fire, Earth, Air, and Water.

The Qualities are Cardinal, Fixed, and Mutable

Each sign has a single Element and a single Quality, as indicated in parentheses on the Zodiac Wiki after each Sign.

Two Signs are said to be opposite if they are listed 6 positions apart from each other in the list above E.g.: Aries is opposite to Libra, Taurus to Scorpio, etc.

Two Signs are said to be quadrate if they are listed 3 positions apart from each other in the list above E.g.: Aries is quadrate to Capricorn and Cancer, Taurus is quadrate to Aquarius and Leo, etc.

Two Signs are said to be trine if they are listed 4 positions apart from each other in the list above E.g.: Aries is trine to Sagitarius and Leo, Taurus is trine to Capricorn and Virgo, etc.

Note that distinct signs share a Quality if and only if they are opposite or quadrate.  Distinct signs share an Element if and only if they are trine.

Add a paragraph to the end of the “Music of the Spheres” rule reading:

Once such a post has been made, [Planet] is considered to be in [Sign].  Any given planet may be in at most one Sign at a time.  All Students are encouraged to update the Zodiac Wiki to indicate which Planets are in each Sign.

Create subrules of “Astronomical Events” called “Aspects” and “Configurations”.  Move the text of the “Astronomical Events” rule (not including subrules) to the “Aspects” rule.  Give the “Configurations” rule the text:

At any time, if more than two Planets are in Conjunction to each other, they are said to form a Stellium.

At any time, if three or more Planets are all in Quadrature and/Or Opposition to each other, and they are at exactly 3 different Signs, they are said to form a T-Square.

At any time, if four or more Planets are all in Quadrature and/Or Opposition to each other, and they are at exactly 4 different Signs, they are said to form a Grand Cross.

At any time, if three or more Planets are all in Trine to each other, and they are at exactly 3 different Signs, they are said to form a Grand Trine.

In the Rule entitled “MY EYES! MY BRAIN!”, change the first paragraph to:

Each Student has a Sanity rating, which can be any real number less than or equal to 5.  This is tracked in the GNDT to 4 significant figures. New Students start with 5.000 Sanity. Any Student with negitive Sanity is Insane.

Proposal: A nice, safe basement, take 2

Apparently, since “Thereputic Isolation” doesn’t exist, this does nothing? - Elias IX

Adminned at 05 Nov 2006 12:25:58 UTC

If the rule “Thereputic Isolation” exists, add the following text to it:

Once per dynasty, each Student may declare themselves On Vacation by making a post to the blog with the word “vacation” in its title.  This post must also specify a duration of real-world time of at least 48 hours.

While a Student is On Vacation, e may often halve eir Sanity, if it is less than -1, or add 1 to it if it is between -1 and 5.  E may not take any action which is allowed by a Dynastic Rule besides this one, unless a Dynastic Rule specifically requires em to.

After the specified time has elapsed, e is no longer On Vacation.

Proposal: Configurations
If the Rule “Astronomical Events” does not exist, this Proposal does nothing.

In the Rule “Astronomical Events” group all current wording into a Sub-Rule named “Aspects”.

Add a Sub-Rule “Configurations”:

At any time, if more than two Planets are in Conjunction to each other, they are said to form a Stellium.

At any time, if three or more Planets are all in Quadrature and/Or Opposition to each other, and they are at exactly 3 different Signs, they are said to form a T-Square.

Proposal: Tomes

Create a subrule to “MY EYES! MY BRAIN!” called “Therapeutic Isolation” with text:

The outside world is a scary place.  Sometimes the only way to cope is to barricade yourself in a familiar place, curl up into a fetal position, shut your eyes, and try to relax—all while hoping that the voices that have been haunting you go away and/or don’t come back.

Each Student may occasionally attempt to relax by making a GNDT comment of “Relax DICE100”.  Let S be the Sanity of the Student making the attempt, and let L be the result of the DICE100 check.  If S+L is positive, the Student’s Sanity is set to (S+5)/2 (rounding up).  Otherwise, the Student has suffered horrific waking nightmares (again), and the Student’s Sanity is reduced by 6.

Proposal: Music of the Spheres

8-0. Reached Quorum.—Chronos

Adminned at 03 Nov 2006 17:40:38 UTC

If the Rule “Planets” does not exist, this Proposal does nothing.

Create a “Signs” rule:

The Signs are Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces.

For all purposes, the Signs are construed to form a continue list, where the Sign of Aries immediately follows the Sign of Pisces.

Create a “Music of the Spheres” rule:

Often, a Student may post an entry in the blog with the Title in the format “[Planet] in [Sign]”, where [Planet] is a Planet listed in the rule Planets and [Sign] is a Sign listed in the rule Signs. Those posts are referred as a “Planet in Sign post” and must conform with the following strictures:

1. If a Personal Planet has already been named today in a Planet in Sign post, no Planet in Sign post may be made which names that Planet;
2. If a Transpersonal Planet has already been named in the last 72 hours in a Planet in Sign post, no Planet in Sign post may be made which names that Planet;
3. If a Generational Planet has already been named in the last 7 days in a Planet in Sign post, no Planet in Sign post may be made which names that Planet;
4. Except for the first time they are named, A Planet in Sign Post which names a Transpersonal or Generational Planet must name the Sign immediately following the Sign named in the last Planet in Sign Post that named said Planet.

Create a “Astronomical Events” rule:

* Any Planets in the same Sign are in Conjunction. They appear to occupy the same position in the sky.
* Any Planets in opposite Signs are in Opposition. They appear to be on the opposite side of the sky as viewed from Earth.
* Any Planets in quadrate Signs are in Quadrature. They appear to form a 90 degrees angle in the sky.
* Any Planets in trine signs are in a Trine. They appear to form a 120 degrees angle in the sky.

I’ve over-simplificated the real-world rules for Planet movement and for aspect forming. If you like this, have fun.

* Venus (P)
* Sun (P)
* Mars (P)
* Jupiter (T)

* Uranus (G)
* Neptune (G)

Planets may be either Personal, Transpersonal or Generational, as signed by the letters (P), (T) and (G) in the list above.

Stories

If you’re unfamiliar with Lovecraft’s short stories or his Mythos, you might want to read some of them. Fortunately for those of us in the US the copyright has expired, so they are all online. You may find them

here

. If you haven’t read any, you should start immediately (heh) with ‘The Call of Cthulhu’ for some flavor.

Other good stories (in my not so humble opinion) are ‘Cool Air’, ‘Dreams in the Witch House’, ‘Herbert West-Reanimator’, ‘Colour out of Space’, ‘The Dunwich Horror’, ‘Haunter of the Dark’, ‘Horror at Red Hook’, ‘Shadow out of Time’, and ‘Whisperer in the Darkness’.

Proposal: Strange Aeons

Self-killed
Failed by Hix

Adminned at 03 Nov 2006 11:56:58 UTC

Create a rule titled ‘Stars and Planets’:

Some Stars in the heavens have peculiar significance unguessed by science, but hinted at darkly by forgotten tales and myths. All such Stars are listed in this rule:

  • Arcturus
  • Betelgeuse
  • Spica
  • Formalhaut

Further, some Planets have occult significance, and are listed below:

  • Mercury
  • Venus
  • Mars
  • Jupiter
  • Saturn
  • Neptune
  • Pluto

Create another rule called ‘Through the Telescope’:

If it has not yet been done within twenty-four hours, any Student may declare an Astronomical Event. An Astronomical Event lasts until a new Event is declared.

Astronomical Events:

  • Any two Planets may be in Conjunction, when they appear to occupy the same position in the sky.
  • Any two Planets may be in Opposition, when they appear to be on the opposite side of the sky as viewed from Earth.
  • Any Planet and Star may be in Alignment, when they appear to occupy the same position in the sky.

Finally, create one last rule called ‘When the Stars are Right’:

The laws of the cosmos are strange and unintelligible to most mortals. Sometimes certain alignments and conjunctions of celestial bodies trigger nightmarish effects and can have dire repercussions for humankind. During these awful periods, the Stars are Right.

  • The Stars are Right whenever Neptune and Betelgeuse are in Alignment. The incidence of nightmares and hysteria increase, and geological events like earthquakes and volcanos happen with astonishing frequency. All Students permanently lose one point of Sanity.

It would be better put in more conditions on declaring Events, but that can go into another proposal.

That which is not dead…

Ia! Ia phg’hn… *cough*

Erm, what’s this? I meant to say that I found this *fascinating* book in the Rare Manuscripts library that I’d love to share with you all… but first I must wait until Mercury and Neptune are in alignment!

I’m unidle, quorum rises from the deep to 7. Thanks for the e-mail Elias.

I’ve backed up the old log and cleared a new one, so you all have an opportunity to race for the top spot on the GNDT again.

Ascension Address: Address to the faculty

To the Faculty:

It has come to my attention that certain rumours are being spread by certain persons, who I will not name (You know who you are), making all matter of unsubstantiated allegation about the new reservoir. These rumours claim that it is “poisoned” by a “colour” out of “space”, and that drinking from it will cause you to “grey” and then “crumble”. This is, of course, pure rubbish. Recent tests conducted by leading biologists have discovered that the new water supply, is in fact, healthier than normal water. Any “tint” or bitter taste claimed by these rumourmongers is simply the result of an overactive imagination.

I sincerly hope that I do not have to hear about this again, for if I do, there will be consequences for all involved.
