Proposal: Unsettling Discovery

Times out and fails, 1-3. -Bucky

Adminned at 03 Jan 2015 20:43:19 UTC

Add a Container with contents “Unidentified Substance” to E7.

Create a new Derelict, Sweeper Bot, with 5 fuel, nothing in its Bay, and Engines DICE4 DICE6 DICE12. Place it in Orbit E8, and make it join the Hivemind Keep Jupiter Tidy.

As the Traffic Warden did inventory, he discovered that there he was missing something important. He immediatly sent a ship to retrieve it, but he misjudged where the substance had gotten to. Now the Traffic Warden can only hope that his cleanup ship will get there before someone else does…

Proposal: Special Proposal Voting, Revised

Timed out 1 votes to 3. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 30 Dec 2014 23:22:41 UTC

Reword the first sentence of the rule Special Proposal Voting from

When a Shuttle casts a vote AGAINST their own Proposal (which is not in the form of a DEFERENTIAL vote), this renders the Proposal Self-Killed, even if the author later changes their Vote.

to

When a Shuttle casts a vote VETO their own Proposal, this renders the Proposal Self-Killed, even if the author later changes their Vote.

I think it’d be nice to be able to propose something that, while you don’t necessarily want implemented, you know someone else in the game would like who just can’t write a proper proposal.

Proposal: No More Forgetting to Refuel

In the rule “Fuel”, change the text

Each Shuttle with less than 15 Fuel may gain 3 Fuel as a weekly action. Each Shuttle with less than 15 Fuel may gain 3 Fuel as a weekly action. The Traffic Warden may gain Fuel in this way even if it has 15 or more Fuel.

to:

If no Shuttle has done so yet this week, any Shuttle may Order Fuel.  When they do, each Shuttle with less than 15 Fuel gains 3 Fuel.  The Traffic Warden gains the 3 Fuel even if it has 15 or more Fuel.

If it’s a Monday or Tuesday, remove 3 Fuel from each Shuttle who has claimed 3 Fuel from “Each Shuttle with less than 15 Fuel may gain 3 Fuel as a weekly action” this week.

Proposal: Feeling His Presence

Times out and fails, 1-3. -Bucky

Adminned at 29 Dec 2014 17:05:57 UTC

In the rule “Containers”, replace “The Traffic Warden may, as a daily action, choose a moon and add a Container to up to two random Orbits around it, each with up to 3 Fuel, 3 Sulfur, 3 Ice or 10 Iron in its Storage.” with:-

No more than twice per day, the Traffic Warden may select a Moon at random and add a Container to a random Orbit around it, its Storage containing DICE3 units of a randomly selected Substance from those currently listed in the ruleset (tripling that amount if the Substance is Iron).

Making Containers generically autogenerating and removing the dungeon-master decision aspect.

Proposal: We Claim Everything

Times out and passes, 4-0. -Bucky

Adminned at 29 Dec 2014 17:03:08 UTC

Add a new dynastic rule to the ruleset.  Call it “Space Domination” and give it the following text:

If at least 29 Orbits have Flags whose owner is the same Shuttle, that Shuttle achieves victory.
If at least 30 Orbits have Flags whose non-idle owners are all members of the same Hivemind, this rule awards victory to that Hivemind.

In the rule “Hiveminds”, change the text

Proposal: Keep your fuel in your tank, not your bay

Times out and fails 1-3. -Bucky

Adminned at 27 Dec 2014 06:16:25 UTC

If the proposal “Controlled Substance” passed, in the rule “Substances”, change the text
“Anything which can be stored in a Bay or is found in a Container is a Substance” to “Anything which can be stored in a Bay or is found in a Container is a Substance, except for Fuel”

Destroy any Fuel that is somehow in a Bay.

Proposal: Into the Hive

Reached quorum 4 votes to 1. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 23 Dec 2014 09:14:30 UTC

Create a new Hivemind named “Keep Jupiter Tidy”, with the following Charter:-

  • Any Shuttle may join Keep Jupiter Tidy at any time.
  • A Shuttle in Keep Jupiter Tidy may cause another Shuttle in that Hivemind to act, if that second Shuttle has not made a blog post or blog comment in the previous 4 days.
  • If Keep Jupiter Tidy is awarded victory, all of its members achieve victory.

Proposal: Controlled Substance

Times out 3 votes to 1. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 23 Dec 2014 09:13:45 UTC

Rename “Worth of Substances” to “Substances”, and replace “Each Substance has a Minimum Worth” with:-

Anything which can be stored in a Bay or is found in a Container is a Substance. If a Substance is listed in the table below, it is Saleable; otherwise it is Unsaleable. Each Saleable Substance has a Minimum Worth

Replace “If no Market Value is specified for a substance on a particular Moon, it has no Market Value there.” with:-

Unsaleable Substances have no Market Value on any Moon.

Replace “As a weekly action, for each Substance” with:-

As a weekly action, for each Saleable Substance

Per the CfJ below, setting things up so that saying “oh look, a Container with 1 tonne of Unobtainium” causes Unobtainium to explicitly become a Substance, albeit one which cannot (in the absence of a market listing) be bought or sold.

Call for Judgment: Everything is a Substance!

Times out 2 votes to 2. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 22 Dec 2014 09:20:36 UTC

Any term not defined (either explicitly or implicitly) by the ruleset may be used to identify a Substance with no Market Value on any Moon and a Minimum Value and Maximum Value unknown to any Shuttle.

There is a container with storage “2 Unidentified Material” in Orbit E8.

This make sure that the proposal Meteor Shower works as intended. Since there is no text in the ruleset that says “Ice, Iron, and Sulfur are Substances” it makes sense to me that we would be able to use things as Substances even if there is no text explicitly mentioning that they are Substances.

Not On, Commander

Making this a blog post so that Ayesdeeef doesn’t miss it: they gave themselves back some old fuel erased by the site problems, saying “I think this is legit - restore 3 fuel I lost due to tech issues, gain 3 more (weekly action), buy Dice8 Engine” The CfJ to clear this up has now passed and declared that all such actions, including the older fuel gain, are now “considered not to have been happened”.

I don’t think this falls under the “Any other gamestate changes made as a result of these erased changes remain legal.” exception of the CfJ, and Ayesdeeef doesn’t seem to be claiming that it does. But maybe it does?

Lost in Space

Adminned at 19 Dec 2014 02:16:26 UTC

Proposal: Radio Gestalt

Timed out / reached quorum 4 votes to 1. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 21 Dec 2014 19:24:44 UTC

Add “Hiveminds”, a new Rule with the following text, to the ruleset:

Each Shuttle may belong to a single Hivemind, tracked in the GNDT. A Shuttle may leave their Hivemind at any time.

Each Hivemind has a Charter, tracked in the “Hivemind Charters” wiki page.  Each Charter should contain:
*The circumstances under which a Shuttle may join that Hivemind.
*The circumstances under which a Shuttle may cause another Shuttle in the Hivemind to act.
*If the Hivemind is Awarded Victory, how to decide which of its members achieve victory.

Each Hivemind also has a unique name, its section title in the Hivemind Charters page.

A Shuttle may join a Hivemind if that Hivemind has fewer than (Quorum - 2) members, its Charter allows them to join it, and they have not left a Hivemind in the past 24 hours.

A Shuttle may cause another Shuttle in the same Hivemind to take an action, as if that other Shuttle were a Proxy, under circumstances permitted by their Hivemind’s Charter, with one exception: they cannot cast a Vote by Proxy even if the Charter and Proxy rules permit it.

If the rules Award Victory to a Hivemind, for the remainder of the dynasty, its members may achieve victory as described by its charter.

A Hivemind with no members is Defunct.

I intend for charters to be created by proposal.  I will generally vote for these proposals.

Proposal: Meteor Shower

Vetoed (repropose suggested). -Bucky

Adminned at 20 Dec 2014 20:27:40 UTC

“Unidentified Material” is a Substance with no Market Value on any Moon.

Add one container with storage “2 Unidentified Material” to Orbit E8.

A major meteor shower has struck Callisto, taking all communications offline between Shuttles and the Traffic Warden. As the Traffic Warden struggles to get everything back under control and restore the data that has been lost in the shower, a strange substance completely escapes his notice. It drifts away from Callisto and settles in orbit around Europa…

Proposal: Terraform Callisto

Reached quorum 5 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 19 Dec 2014 20:00:54 UTC

Proposal: Ramming Speed

Timed out 2 votes to 2. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 19 Dec 2014 20:00:19 UTC

Rename the “Deflecting” rule to “Proximity Alert”, and add:-

As a Knock-On Action, a Shuttle may Ram another Shuttle in the same Orbit. This causes the Rammed Shuttle’s Bay to gain 1 tonne of Debris.

In the rule “Local Maneuvering”, replace “select the result of one roll and increase their Orbit Number by that amount”

select the result of one roll, subtract from it the number of tonnes of Debris they have in their Bay and (if the result is greater than zero) increase their Orbit Number by that amount

To the rule “Orbital Dockyards”, add:-

If a Shuttle’s Orbit contains an Orbital Dockyard, that Shuttle may remove any amount of Debris from its own Bay.

Any changes to the GNDT which were subsequently erased, between the 1st and 15th of December 2014, are considered not to have been happened, with the exception of the setting up the initial values for new or returning Shuttles. Any other gamestate changes made as a result of these erased changes remain legal.

The GNDT has been broken

We’ve lost several days’ worth of GNDT logs from before the break, including Laoding’s initialization and a number of engine purchases.  I think we need a CfJ to sort this out, but don’t know what the fix would be.

Monday, December 15, 2014

Very, very sorry for extended downtime

So on Friday, Dreamhost had to perform an emergency server move. Everything broke immediately, and I put in an OMG EXTREME CRITICAL EMERGENCY-level ticket with them. They said it was a DNS issue, and some things (including the BlogNomic Wiki) started working thereafter. But the main blog never came back, so finally today I opened a second OMG level ticket, and this time I got an immediate fix to the actual problem, profuse apologies, and credit for two months’ hosting.

I’m really, really sorry about this, guys. If I hadn’t been sick all weekend I might have stayed on top of it better and gotten the site back up a day or so sooner. I’ll do my level best to never let this happen again.

Proposal: A Deal Post

Times out 2 votes to 3. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 17 Dec 2014 14:04:11 UTC

Add a new rule, “Space Economics” with the following text:-

Each Deal Post is considered Gamestate.

As it pertains to a Deal Post, the shuttle that made the Deal Post is the Offering Shuttle. Any shuttle that has commented on the Deal Post is a Buying Shuttle.

A Deal Post is either Open or Closed, but not both. At the time of its creation, the Deal Post is considered Open. If at any time while the Deal Post is Open, the shuttle no longer possesses any of the thrusters named in X, the Deal Post becomes Closed and remains Closed even if the shuttle later regains those thrusters. Any Deal Post with a comment by the Offering Shuttle of the form “This Deal Post is now closed.” is Closed.

As a weekly action, any shuttle may make a Deal Post with no category and a title of the form Sale: X, where X is any subset of thrusters that the shuttle possesses at the time of the Deal Post.

After the Deal Post has been made and as long as the Deal Post is Open, any other shuttle that is in the same orbit as the first shuttle may respond with a comment of the form Offer: Y, where Y is some amount of iron, sulphur, and/or ice with the recommended input form “One Iron, Two Sulphur” or “1 Iron, 3 Sulphur, 1 Ice”, etc.

Then, as long as the Deal Post is Open and there is a Buying Shuttle that possesses all of the materials it has offered that is in the same orbit as the Offering Shuttle, the first shuttle may update the GNDT by transferring X from the Offering Shuttle to the Buying Shuttle, transferring Y from the Buying Shuttle to the Offering Shuttle, and responding to the Deal Post with the comment “This Deal Post is now closed.” The Buying Shuttle must be the same shuttle in all instances of this paragraph. If there are different possible values for Y, Y is the instance of Y from the comment of the form Offer: Y made by the Buying Shuttle.

If you guys have any technical problems with the way this is written, you can put it in Note: form with no voting icon and I will get around to it. Note: form can also be an effective way to discuss without voting and a way to allow me to change the Proposal to reflect the discussion.

Proposal: Mining, Space Trade, and the Debris Disposal Authority

Fails 1-5 with Quorum AGAINST. -Bucky

Adminned at 09 Dec 2014 18:55:49 UTC

Add a new rule, “Space Economics” with the following text:-

As a weekly action, any shuttle may gain an amount of iron equal to the number of Flags that they are the owner of.

A Deal Post is either Open or closed, but not both. As a daily action, any shuttle may make a Deal Post with no category and a title of the form Sale: X, where X is any subset of thrusters that the shuttle possesses at the time of the Deal Post. At this time, the Deal Post is considered Open. If at any time while the Deal Post is Open, the shuttle no longer possesses any of the thrusters named in X, the Deal Post becomes Closed and remains Closed even if the shuttle later regains those thrusters. After the Deal Post has been made and as long as the Deal Post is Open, any other shuttle may respond with a comment of the form Offer: Y, where Y is some amount of iron, sulphur, and/or ice with the recommended input form “One Iron, Two Sulphur” or “1 Iron, 3 Sulphur, 1 Ice”. Then, as long as the Deal Post is Open and the second shuttle possesses all of the materials it has offered, the first shuttle may update the GNDT by transferring X from the first shuttle to the second shuttle and having the transferring Y to from the second shuttle to the first shuttle. Whenever the first shuttle takes this action, the Deal Post becomes Closed.

Create a new rule, “Debris Disposal Authority” with the following text:-

As a weekly action, the Traffic Warden can choose a random shuttle out of all the shuttles that have at least one fuel. The shuttle is chosen randomly at the Traffic Warden’s discretion. If the Traffic Warden chooses a random shuttle in such a manner, the Traffic Warden must then update the GNDT so that the chosen shuttle loses one fuel and gains one Sulphur.

Proposal: Free Thruster Giveaway

Passes 7-0 with Quorum FOR. -Bucky

Adminned at 09 Dec 2014 04:11:21 UTC

Add a new Dynastic Rule to the ruleset.  Call it “Custom Engines” and give it the following text:

Once per dynasty, Each Shuttle may spend X fuel to gain a DICEX Thruster, where X is a number between 3 and 8, inclusive.  Shuttles with more than one Thruster and Proxies cannot take this action.

Shuttles have been complaining that maneuvering is too hard with one Thruster.  Rather than making maneuvering easier in general, I think it’s better just to start everyone with a second Thruster.

Add a new subrule to the rule “Orbit Contents”.  Call it “Flags” and give it the following text:

A Flag is a type of Satellite.  It has one Attribute, Owner, which is the name of a Shuttle or Idle Shuttle.  If a Flag’s Owner leaves the game, the Traffic Warden becomes its Owner.

If an Orbit has no Flag, any Shuttle with that Orbit may spend 1 Iron to create a Flag in that Orbit with them as the Owner.
If an Orbit has a Flag, any Shuttle with that Orbit may spend 1 Sulfur to Deface that Flag as a Knock-On Action, changing its Owner to any Shuttle (but not an idle Shuttle).

Add a Flag with Owner “MC Geran” to I3 and C1.

If a majority of EVCs on this proposal contain the word “Graffiti”, add a Flag with owner “Rodlen” to a random Ganymede orbit.

MC Geran was a cartography ship from the era before Magnetic Boosters.  She was scanning the surface of Io when a debris strike crippled her main engine, leaving her unable to boost out of Io’s gravity well.

Rumors that an orbit sweeper intentionally redirected a rock across MC Geran’s survey trajectory are, of course, strenuously denied by the Debris Disposal Authority.

Proposal: Inter-Galactic Travel (or at least inter-moon)

Timed out 1 vote to 6. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 05 Dec 2014 12:12:20 UTC

Create a new dynastic rule, “Greater Maneuvering”:

Each Shuttle has one Hyperthruster, tracked in the GNDT column ‘Engine’ as HT(X/Y), where X is the Hyperthruster’s Charge and Y is the Hyperthruster’s Maximum Charge. If a Hyperthruster’s Charge is equal to its Maximum Charge, the Hyperthruster is Fully Charged. If a Hyperthruster’s Charge would become greater than its Maximum Charge, it instead becomes Fully Charged. As a Knock-On Action, a Shuttle increase the Charge of its Hyperthruster by 1. New Shuttles start with a Hyperthruster with Charge 3 and Maximum Charge 7.

Any Player with a Fully Charged Hyperthruster may, as a Knock-On Action, set the Hyperthruster’s Charge to 0 and change their Orbit to an Orbit around any Moon with the same Orbit Number. They may then take a bonus Knock-On Action. If they do, they must skip any further Knock-On Actions that the bonus Knock-On Action would permit.

If a Shuttle’s Orbit contains an Orbital Dockyard, that Shuttle may spend 1 tonne of any Substance to reduce the Maximum Charge of their Hyperthruster by 1.

In the rule “Local Maneuvering,” replace the phrase “They roll the dice for each of their non-Overcharged Thrusters that they have not used to change Orbits in the last 20 hours.” with

They roll the dice for each of their non-Overcharged Thrusters that they have not used to change Orbits in the last 10 hours.

Non-Structure, non-Shuttle objects in orbit are Satellites.  A Satellite may have Attributes, values that are tracked in parentheses with the Satellite in the Orbit Contents page.

Add a subrule named “Containers” to the rule “Orbit Contents”.  Give it the following text:

A Container is a kind of Satellite.  It has an Attribute, Storage, that is an amount of Fuel or a Substance.  As a Knock-On Action, a Shuttle with the same Orbit as a Container add its Storage to their Fuel (if its Storage are Fuel) or Bay(otherwise) and destroy the Container.

The Traffic Warden may, as a daily action, choose a moon and add a Container to up to two random Orbits around it, each with up to 3 Fuel, 3 Sulfur, 3 Ice or 10 Iron in its Storage.

Proposal: Indoor Market

Times out and passes 3-0. -Bucky

Adminned at 05 Dec 2014 04:29:45 UTC

Reword the “Worth of Substances” rule to:-

Each Substance has a Minimum Worth between $1 and $5 per tonne and a Maximum Worth between the Minimum Worth and $8 per tonne; these are tracked privately by the Traffic Warden. Each substance may also have a Market Value per tonne, also measured in $, and which may be different for each Moon. Market Value is tracked in the table below. If no Market Value is specified for a substance on a particular Moon, it has no Market Value there.

As a weekly action, for each Substance and each Moon, the Traffic Warden should privately choose a random number between that Substance’s Minimum Worth and Maximum Worth, inclusive, to be that Substance’s Market Value in $ for that Moon. (The Market Value of Iron is not chosen randomly and is instead always $1.) The Traffic Warden shall then update the table below to reflect the current Market Value.

Merging the wiki page into the ruleset and putting it into a table, switching to $ values for clarity, and fixing the “different for each Moon” problem.

The Price of Ice

The Market Values for Ice appear to be illegal, since “Each substance also has a Market Value, which is different for each Moon.” and Ice is currently worth 9 Iron on three of the Moons.

As I read it, when Bucky was setting up the substance values, whenever a random duplicate value was generated, it should have been left as a hyphen. I’ve gone ahead and changed Ice on Ganymede and Callisto back to hyphens. Anybody can undo this if they disagree with my reading.
