Enacted 4-1 yuri_dragon_17

Adminned at 03 Oct 2009 20:49:55 UTC

Create a subrule to rule 2.11 Doomsday Cult, called “Misinformation”:

As a weekly action, a Cultist may send a PM to the Leader containing the name of a single Survivor and whether or not they want that survivor to appear as a cultist or a non-cultist. When the leader makes that week’s Investigation Results post per rule 2.11.3 Locating the Cult, he must also include the name of the mentioned survivor(s), and state whether they are a cultist or not, taking into account the potentially incorrect information due to Misinformation. It should not be possible for another Survivor to be able to discern between the correct and incorrect results.
If there are more Misinformation results than genuine results, the Leader must randomly select Misinformation results, and discard them. He must also do this if there are the same number of each type of result, unless there are only 1 of each (I.E. The results post must have less misinformation than fact, unless there is only one of each).
If a Survivor was genuinely investigated, then the Leader must not post any Misinformation about that survivor for the week they were investigated.

Remove the following text from Locating the Cult: “; one of those notations (chosen at random by the Leader) must be correct, and for each of the others the Leader must make it correct with a 60% chance, and incorrect with a 40% chance”.

Part 1:

If there is a rule entitled “London Underground”, rename it and rewrite it so that it reads as follows (disregarding any subrules, which shall not be affected by this Proposal):

Los Angeles Metro
There exists a wiki page called “Los Angeles Metro” which at all times contains the image located at this URL: [1] (http://metro.net/riding_metro/maps/images/rail_map.pdf) This image is known as the Los Angeles Metro Map (or simply the Map) and specifies a list of Stations.  A Station is any Station as referenced in the legend to the Map.

All Stations belong to a line as shown in the Map (all stations that share a colour are part of the same line.  The lines may be referred to as Orange, Red, Yellow, Purple, Striped Yellow, Blue, Green and Striped Grey).

A Station may be a Interchange Station if its so marked in the Map. Interchange Stations are part of more than one line, as indicated by the lines they intersect in the Map.

Each Survivor has a Station, tracked by the GNDT, which must match the name of a Station in the Map, and is “Hollywood/Vine” for new Survivors.

Part 2:

Upon the adoption of this Proposal, the Station of any Survivor whose Station was “Westminster” immediately prior to the adoption of this Proposal shall be set to “Hollywood/Vine”.  Any Survivor whose Station was not “Westminster” immediately prior to the adoption of this Proposal may, within 24 hours following the adoption of this Proposal, set his Station to any valid Station, and if he does not do so, then his Station shall be set to “Hollywood/Vine”.

Hey, it worked for American Bandstand.
Per my comments to the earlier proposal, the idea here is that the LA map is a much smaller map, to make it more likely that people will actually come into contact with each other.

Proposal: Wait, so we can’t attack any more?

Passes 5-0. - Qwazukee

Adminned at 01 Oct 2009 23:28:40 UTC

Add a new rule, “Attacking your Friends”:

As a weekly action, a Survivor (the Attacker) may make an attack on another Survivor (the Defender); to do so, he must make a GNDT comment specifying that he is Attacking, then make an Aggression Roll against that Survivor; this is known as an Attack. If it succeeds, the Attacker gains 1 Stamina, and the Defender takes damage and loses 2 Stamina; otherwise, the Attacker takes damage.

I think this was repealed by mistake when aggression rolls were streamlined. This adds back a similar rule using the new framework for aggression. Besides, if there are no Marauders around at the moment, who else are we going to attack?

Proposal: Teaming up

Enacted 5-0 by yuri_dragon_17

Adminned at 01 Oct 2009 03:39:37 UTC

Create a new rule, “Teaming Up”:

Two Survivors who are Watching each other and have the same Status are a Team.
For the purposes of all dynastic rules but this one that care about the Fitness or Stamina of a Survivor in a Team (a “Team Member”), the Fitnesses of both Team Members in a Team are each equal to the higher Fitness in the team plus 15, and the Staminas of both Team Members are each equal to the higher Stamina in the team plus 3. However, if either Member of a Team takes Damage (due to a rule other than this one), so does the other; if either member of a Team gains or loses Contribution (due to a rule other than this one), so does the other; and if either Member of a team loses Stamina or Fitness (due to a rule other than this one), so does the other (this does not apply to gains).

So we can go out on foraging trips together, and do other things in a cooperative manner. The unfit players need help to get through the streets of London alive…

Proposal: Snowball Proposal

Vetoed -Darth

Adminned at 29 Sep 2009 10:00:16 UTC

Create a new rule, “Winter looms over”:

There exists a sub-rule to this rule called the Snowball Rule. As a daily action, a Survivor (known as the Plower) can try to push the Snowball around by making a Fitness Test. If the Fitness Test is passed, the Snowball moves as intended, and the Plower may add a number of characters to the end of the Snowball Rule equal to the number of words already on the Snowball rule (no more, no less) as the Snowball picks them up. Punctuation marks and spaces count as one character each. If the Fitness Test is Failed, the Plower takes damage.

There is a massive explosion:
Every Survivor may with once within 72 hours of its passing roll DICE3 and DICEX, where X is 8. If the first rolled number is 1, they are hit with a small amount of shrapnel, but soon recover, and they add the second rolled number to their stamina. If the first number is 2, however, they are more seriously wounded, and the second is subtracted from their stamina. If the first number is a 3, they are not hit with shrapnel.

If the EVC of a survivor who votes FOR this proposal contains a single positive one digit integer, that survivor must increase X by that number when they roll.
None of these actions may cause the Survivor’s Stamina to change beyond its maximum value. If it would be changed to higher than the maximum value, it is instead changed to that value.

Proposal: Getting a fix on my aggression

Times out 6-0, after an entire freakin’ week -Darth

Adminned at 25 Sep 2009 14:54:54 UTC

Repeal rule “2.6 Attacking Your Friends”

Create a new rule called “Aggression”:

A Survivor (the Attacker) can perform up to two Aggression Rolls per day when the rules allows the Survivor to do so. If taking an action requires to perform an Aggression Roll, but that Survivor has already performed two or more Aggression Rolls that day, the action cannot be taken.

Before the Aggression Roll is performed, the Attacker chooses another Survivor (the Attacked), Then, the Attacker makes a roll of DICEX in the GNDT, including the name of the Attacked in the comment. The value of X is calculated as follows: subtract the Stamina of the Attacked from the Stamina of the Attacker, then add 10 to that number, then if a rule or effect states that the Attacker has a modifier on Aggression Rolls they perform add that modifier; if the value of X is lower than 5, it is 5 instead.

The Aggression Roll succeeds if the result of the roll is equal to or greater than 5 plus any modifier the Attacked has against Aggresion Rolls, if a rule or effect states such a modifier.

Now, from here on, if you want to use special kinds of attacks, make them all use Aggression rolls are defined here. You might also notice that this banishes the weekly free attack. However, at the same time provides a framework for new attack enabling rules that are a little faster paced. Finally, I found that the original rule “Attacking Your Friends” was very ambiguously phrased in certain points, and not very flexible.

Ok the mechanics of this dynasty are messed up

Really they are:

1) There are like 3 or 4 different forms of attacks, depending on different stats, which are mostly random or easily maxed out.
2) Items and Locations are irrelevant.
3) Almost nobody seems interested in battles, given how ineffective they are. One would have guessed a Zombie dynasty would be kinda more life and death.
4) Despite deciding on a system with few hit points (2) we have fitness and stamina that are used as HP instead!
5) The ruleset is terribly disorganized, takes a while to try to locate the rule you need to attack or move.

I was thinking of what I could propose to clean up this mess, but really, there are so many angles to attack this problem that I don’t know where to start. My approach here would be to repeal a bunch or rules and write new ones which are a little more concise and less all over the place. So I’d like to know if people would like me to try and do something about this, even knowing it will probably be a massive change.

Proposal: [STORY] Hunting Expedition

Enacted 5-2 with 4 hunters -Darth

Adminned at 13 Sep 2009 16:52:25 UTC

Each Survivor who votes on this proposal may include either the word ‘Hunting’ or ‘Gathering’ in their EVC on this proposal.

If at least 4 EVCs on this proposal contain the word ‘Hunting’ but not the word ‘Gathering’, we manage to pen in and kill a large animal; increase the Food and Water by 15.

Each Survivor whose EVC contains the word ‘Gathering’ but not the word ‘Hunting’ finds some form of highly perishable food and has a large meal; increase the Stamina of any such Survivor by 2.

Excalabur goes Idle, Quorum falls to 7.

Proposal: Idle? No? Yes?

In Rule 1.2 Survivors, change the text:

Admins may de-Idle a Survivor at his request - the Survivor’s personal gamestate retains the values it had immediately prior to his going Idle.

to:

Admins may de-Idle a Survivor upon his request in a blog post - the Survivor’s personal gamestate retains the values it had immediately prior to his going Idle.

Fixing yuri’s secret participant problem.

Is a player Idle just because they’re “marked as such in the sidebar?”

The rules state that all idle players are marked, but does not state that all marked players are idle. Unidle is not defined, so we must infer that unidle players are those who are not marked as idle.  Nothing says that an unidle player cannot be *marked* as idle, or even that unidle players must (or even may) be in the GNDT. Any admin can ask himself to unidle himself, then de-idle himself, without appearing to be idle.

Story Post: [MARAUDERS] Master Thief!

1 Boss (Living, 10 HP)

Oh no, it’s Master Thief!

NOTE: I have edited the post time for this post to make it appear on the main page. Yes, I violated the fair play rules - but it’s for the good of the nomic. Kevan did a similar trick back in the First Dynasty of Devenger.

Proposal: Onward to victory

Self-Vetoed -Darth

Adminned at 10 Sep 2009 09:31:29 UTC

Add a new rule called “Victory”:

Some Items are Victory Items, and shall be marked as such in the Inventory Items page. As a daily action, the Leader may make any Item become a Victory Item. As a weekly action, any Survivor may make any Item become a Victory Item, so long as no other Survivor has done so in the past week, and so long as the chosen Item does not have a Holder.

At any time, if any Survivor is the Holder of every Victory Item, and there are at least 5 Victory Items, that Survivor may attempt to Win by making a GNDT comment of “Winning DICE10”. If the result of that DICE roll is greater than or equal to 6, that Survivor achieves victory. Otherwise, that Survivor shall remove every Victory Item from their own inventory.

Proposal: A fixed reason to eliminate the Cult

Times out 7-1 -Darth

Adminned at 11 Sep 2009 10:09:27 UTC

Create a subrule to “Doomsday Cult”, called “Cult Attacks”:

As a weekly action, a Cultist can send a private message to the Leader stating that they’re organising an assassination of a Survivor. Upon receiving this message, the Leader should reduce the Stamina of the chosen Survivor by 5, with the reason “Cult activity”.

Create a subrule to “Doomsday Cult”, called “Revenge agains the Cult”:

As a weekly action, a non-Infected Survivor who has previously had their Stamina lowered due to Cult activity can perform a Fitness Check to try to fight back against the Cult. If the check is passed, then the next time the Leader reduces the Stamina of anyone due to Cult activity, he should reduce the Stamina of a random chosen Cultist by 5, with the reason “Cult activity”; the order in which the Staminas are reduced should be chosen at random so as to not give away which target was the Cultist, and which was the Cult’s target.

Create a subrule to “Doomsday Cult”, called “Locating the Cult”:

As a weekly action, a non-Cultist Survivor can send a private message to the Leader, specifying a Survivor who he wants to Investigate; that Survivor becomes an Investigated Survivor for that week. As soon as is reasonable after the start of each week, the Leader must make a post with “[Investigation Results]” in its title, listing all Investigated Survivors for the previous week, along with either “Cultist” or “Non-Cult” for each; one of those notations (chosen at random by the Leader) must be correct, and for each of the others the Leader must make it correct with a 60% chance, and incorrect with a 40% chance.

A fixed version of “A reason to eliminate the Cult”, with suggestions from yuri_dragon_17 and Darknight.

If we want the Cult to do something, we need: a way for the Cult to hurt non-Cultists, a way for the ‘innocent’ players to fight back, and a way to determine who’s a cultist and who isn’t. There’s a tradeoff in the investigations; if only one person’s investigated each week, you’re going to get 100% accurate results, but the more people you investigate the more noise you’ll get.

RSS feeds fixed

Just to mention that I’ve fixed the RSS feeds this evening; they were previously only showing sticky entries, and not giving descriptions, but both of these aspects are now fixed. Either this sort of stuff is a lot easier to repair under the new EE install, or I just wasn’t paying enough attention last time. There’s RSS and Atom, and the LiveJournal feed will be feeding off of the latter.

(I’ve also set up a custom RSS feed purely for Ascension Addresses, as an alternative to the alert mailing list. And out of curiosity, and following Arthexis’s lead, I’ve fed the main RSS feed through Twitterfeed to produce @blognomic, which should update once per post, with maybe half an hour of lag. It’s a bit of a kludge and I don’t know how well that will work out, but we’ll see.)

Master Thief?

Where did the current Marauding go? Shouldn’t our Food & Water have gone down drastically by now?

Idle

Amnistar Idles, quorum still 8.

Announcement: If arth can adverise, so can I

Fresh Nomic utilizes a ripoff of BN’s dynasty system and is very awesome. We have offices and stuff, you should all check it out. Players include yuri and C-walker, though yuri’s idle.

It is currently my fourth leadership (we need more players so that I don’t have to be the emperor all the time). I stole the theme from arth’s dynasty (or rather, the metatheme: it’s “guess the theme”, but I will tell you that the theme is not “Gourmet Drag Racing on Mars”.).

Announcement: Check out what kept me busy this week

Ok, this may be considered advertisement, but since it is not really spam and not disallowed by the rules, I’m posting it here: I’ve created a new nomic.

Check it out, it’s here: http://www.nomic.arthexis.net/

It’s still an early beta, but I’m trying to push a professional looking product with this site here, so I would appreciate all feedback, specially uncovering bugs and security leaks, as well as some assistance with performance testing. Some of the features it has right now:

* Secured from bots and spammers with captchas.
* Documents are integrated into the engine, no need for a separate wiki.
* Automatic vote tallies that are open for a configurable window of time.
* Friendlier user interface all around.
* Allows widgets that contain polls, a wall, automatic quorum count.
* Allows avatars and upload of relevant files.
* Integrated AJAX chat widget.
* Documents arrange themselves in a menu automatically.
* All posts and comments have Revisions enabled by default.

All the stuff from the previous list is implemented and ready to use by players. The main thing that I haven’t gotten around to implementing yet is a dice roll system, but I am already working on it and think I should have a working version coded during the weekend. Also right now the site has a fixed styling, but I’m looking to make it modifiable by players in the future too. BTW, I created new rule’s from scratch based on the original set by Peter Suber.

Please take a look at it, you might what I’ve done on my spare time.

Proposal: Urban Dead + Fresh Nomic

Times out 7-3 -Darth

Adminned at 07 Sep 2009 14:53:24 UTC

Add a new rule called “City”:

There is a wiki document called City. The City is a table, and each cell in the City is called a Building. Each Survivor’s name is kept in a Building. The Building where a Survivor’s name is kept is known as that Survivor’s Location. Each Survivor will initially have a Location of row 1, column 1. A Survivor is said to be “in” their Location.

As a daily action, any Survivor may change their Location to any adjacent Location to their own.

Add a new subrule to “City”, called “Scattered Items”:

If the name of an Item is in a Building, any Survivor in that Building may add become the Holder of that Item as a daily action.

As a daily action, the Leader may add the name of any Item, so long as not have a Holder, to any Building.

Inspired both by Kevan’s zombie apocalypse MMO Urban Dead and a similar rule in Fresh Nomic.

Proposal: Rainbow!

Next time wakukee does the color scheme he should allow me to help because this gray is no fun.  I’m not really sure if this qualifies as a proposal, and I don’t care, I just want people to agree with me.  If you don’t aree, don’t pomment por favor.

IDIC

I’m saying that people should be given an explanation of what is going on so they don’t have to make fools of themselves.  The rules are not very explanatory.

Hola!

HI!  You can un-idle me if you want, it doesn’t really matter.  I can’t figure out the rules, or what i’m supposed to be doing, so I’m just going to comment on posts.  Unless you win by inane chatter, there’s no way I’m winning this thing.

Shem, Mossfire, yuri idle

I really need to take a break for dynasty or two. I’ll be back eventually….
Quorum drops to 8.

Proposal: Item Creation

Times out and fails 1-9 -Bucky

Adminned at 07 Sep 2009 11:54:59 UTC

Add a rule to Section 2 called “2.15: Craftsmanship”

Each Survivor has a statistic known as ‘Craftsmanship’ tracked in the GNDT. It can be any integer from 0 to 100, and shall initially be 10. Whenever an action requires a Survivor to use their Craftsmanship skill, they must roll DICE100 in the GNDT. A Survivor may train their Craftsmanship skill as a daily action, to raise it by 5, in the same method as Fitness Training: if you lose the roll against your skill, you gain the 5 points.

Add a subrule to rule 2.10 “Inventory” called “Item Creation”.

A Survivor may create an Item for use in their Inventory by rolling against that Item’s ‘Craft Difficulty’ with their Craftsmanship Skill. Every Item has a ‘Craft Difficulty’. If the survivor succeeds, one of the item is added to the inventory. If the survivor fails, no action is taken.

This will become useful once some items are added to the game: it will allow us to create items for use. Something like a healing pill or potion would have a high skill rating. Skill Rating should be proportional to the usefulness of the item.

Proposal: Healing up

Times out and passes 9-2—Bucky

Adminned at 07 Sep 2009 12:24:40 UTC

Add a subrule to rule 2.1 “Still Alive”, called “Healing”:

A Survivor is said to be Resting if they have taken no daily or weekly actions defined by a dynastic rule in the previous 48 hours.
As a weekly action, a Resting Wounded Survivor with at least 10 Stamina can change their status to Healthy.
As a weekly action, a Resting Fallen Survivor with at least 5 Stamina can change their status to Wounded; but doing so causes their Stamina to reduce by 10.

If a number of EVCs on this proposal greater than or equal to a quorum of Survivors clearly specify a number other than 48, replace 48 in the new subrule with that number.

Wounds don’t last forever; rest and build your strength up, and eventually you can heal. Yes, even if you’re so badly wounded as to be almost unconscious, but the stress of getting up again after that is going to be rather painful.

The Doctor Arrives

I wish to join the nomic, and incidentally the list of survivors.
Onward! To victory!
