New Entry

I am formally requesting permission to become a noble Time Monk.

Proposal: Safety First

Reaches quorum and passes, 11-0. Josh

Adminned at 02 Jun 2012 14:44:26 UTC

Wherever the Dynastic Rules contain the text

They may not be amended by any means other than a proposal and

change it to

They may not be amended by any means other than a Proposal or Call for Judgment and

It’s possible, though not likely, that the Hard Rules’ messing with DoV mechanics will somehow leave us stuck in Hiatus.  Allowing CfJs to modify Hard Rules would keep such a state from ending the game.

Proposal: Historical Document Preservation Act

Reached quorum and passed, 11-0. Josh

Adminned at 02 Jun 2012 14:42:44 UTC

Add a new Dynastic Rule to the ruleset.  Call it “Protected Documents” and give it the following text:

Any non-Ruleset document on the Blognomic wiki that would qualify as gamestate under the final Ruleset of a dynasty before dynasty 100 may not be modified except by Proposal or CfJ.  If a rule from a past Dynasty would reference or modify such a document, it instead references or modifies the subpage of that document found by adding “/dynasty100” to the end of its URL.  Such a subpage is a Surrogate Wiki Page.  Surrogate Wiki Pages are considered gamestate and do not have their own Surrogate Wiki Pages.

If a wiki page contains non-Ruleset gamestate and does not have a Surrogate Wiki Page, any Time Monk may create its Surrogate Wiki Page with the same content.

Remove the contents of all Surrogate Wiki Page.  For each page that became gamestate due to this rule change, revert all changes made to it since the start of Dynasty 100.

Request to Enter the Rabbit Hole

I hereby request entry to the monastery that I too might become a Time Monk.

Request to join

I would like to join this madness. Thank you.

Call for Judgment: Ambiguous DoV

Reaches quorum and passes. Any constitutional crisis is retroactively dispensed with. Josh

Adminned at 01 Jun 2012 08:38:26 UTC

It has come to my attention that the status of my most recent DoV (http://blognomic.com/archive/declaration_of_victory22/) is in dispute, and needs clarification.  Therefore, adjust all tracked gamestate information as through the following statements are true:
1)The aforementioned Declaration of Victory was a past dynasty DoV as described in Rule 2.2.3, even if it existed before that rule.
2)The aforementioned Declaration of Victory did not cause a hiatus to begin.

Wish to become a Time Monk

In accordance with the rules, I hereby express my interest in joining the game by becoming a Time Monk!

Proposal: Infamous Victory

Times out 9 votes to 2. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 01 Jun 2012 05:35:09 UTC

Rename the rule “Victory” to “Immanentizing the Eschatons”, and reword it to:-

Each Time Monk has a field in the GNDT entitled Eschatons, defaulting to zero. Each Dynasty may or may not be Immanentized, and defaults to not being Immanentized.

If a Time Monk would be eligible to achieve Victory in the Dynasty that they currently occupy, were they Enlightened, and if that Dynasty has not yet been Immanentized, then they may Immanentize that Dynasty by making a blog post with the Title “Immanentizing Dynasty X”, where X is the Dynasty they occupy, and placing an asterisk beside that Dynasty in the Dynastic History list on the front page of the Wiki. Upon doing so, the Monk who Immanentized the Dynasty gains 1 Eschaton.

Time Monks may be either Enlightened or Unenlightened, defaulting to Unenlightened. A Time Monk may not declare Victory if he or she is Unenlightened.

To the rule “Dynastic Travel”, add:-

If a Dynasty is Immanentized, it may not be made the Occupied Dynasty of any Time Monk, and any Time Monk for whom it is the current Occupied Dynasty may have their Dynasty set to 100.

Quarantining earlier-Dynasty Victories by turning them into an “if you would have achieved victory, you don’t actually achieve victory but gain a number instead” mechanic, and putting an unlockable block on victory declaration, at least for now.

Proposal: Not so fungible

Timed out and passed, 7-1. Josh

Adminned at 01 Jun 2012 04:46:53 UTC

Add the following to the end of the second paragraph of the sub-rule entitled “Victory”:

Any other pending Declarations of Victory for a dynasty fail if a Declaration of Victory for that dynasty is passed. A Time Monk may only Declare Victory in a Dynasty they are currently occupying. If a Time Monk ever has a pending Declaration of Victory in a dynasty that they are not currently occupying then it may not be enacted, and may be failed by any admin.

Those last two posts courtesy of Clucky and Bucky.

Proposal: What can change the nature of a man?

Timed out and passed, 6-0. Josh

Adminned at 01 Jun 2012 04:47:52 UTC

Add the following to the end of the sub-rule entitled Gamestate Mapping:

Unless otherwise stated, any ruleset’s local terminology used to refer to Time Monks shall be taken to mean Time Monks; and any ruleset’s local terminology used to refer to Time Buddha shall be taken to mean Time Buddha.

NPCs that exist in a dynasty’s ruleset shall exist in the gamestate for Dynasty 100, but shall only be able to interact with, or be interacted with by, players who currently Occupy the dynasty from whence they came. If it is required for them to be listed in the GNDT then they shall be listed with the number of their dynasty of origin in square brackets as part of their name.

I unidle myself.

GNDT does not like numeric column names

Due to technical difficulties, GNDT fields 1-10 have been renamed.  I hope it’s clear enough to work until we patch the rules to match.

Declaration of Victory: Declaration of Victory

Failed by Kevan after 48 hours with 2 votes FOR and 7 AGAINST - “has been open for voting for at least 48 hours and cannot be Enacted”.

Adminned at 01 Jun 2012 02:52:43 UTC

I achieved victory in Dynasty 58 by winning the Succession Challenge.  The dynastic history clearly records the relevant facts.

(Yeah, I didn’t win it during this dynasty, but that’s irrelevant with the way the rule is worded.)

Multiple Scams Incoming

I unidle myself.

(Quorum rises to 8)

Would someone mind helping me with the scenery?

I have no idea how to do this stuff.

White background and black text would be good, maybe with red titles for proposals and grey comment boxes.

Anyone who is any good with image software, as well - I have no idea what to do for a header image, and would be grateful for suggestions.

Thanks!

Wait… who remembers this?

Looking through old rulesets, noticed that after around 85 the dynasty number and rule number got misalinged

Went digging in the archives and found this:

http://blognomic.com/archive/yet_another_five_gold_medals/

As far as I can understand, what happened was Kevan used a loophole to win a dynasty but then forgot to repel the old dynastic rules in his AA. This let Roujo use the exact same loophole to win the dynasty right away. This means technically, the The Seventh Dynasty of Kevan was 82, the Eight Dynasty of Kevan was 83 (both of which were the The Cold War Spy Dynasty), and this is now dynasty 101.

We can still get around this, either by ignoing the short seventh dynasty of kevan, and using the dynasty list of the wiki (and as long as the UTD properly links everything it should be good, though we might want to super clarify that if the UTD doesn’t say a dynasty happened, it doesn’t happen). But I feel like technically this isn’t actually dynasty 100…

Handling Illegal Values

How do we want to do this?

I think a lot of it depends on, if I’m in Ruleset 33 is everyone else a “Swashbuckler” for the purposes of the ruleset? If so, we need some sort of “Values can be illegal”, but actions that do not make sense (such as spending something from a non-numeric value) cannot be performed. Otherwise I donno if there will be much interaction.

Proposal: Where did I put my babelfish?

Timed out 9 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan.

Add a new subrule to “The Hard Rules” called “Unitemporal Translation” and give it the following text

There is a wiki page called “Unitemporal Translation Document”, also known as the UTD. The UTD contains a list of each dynasty from 1 to 99 in the order each dynasty occurred. For each dynasty, it should also contain the following information: A link to the ruleset to that dynasty, the mapping of GNDT fields to their labels for Dynasty 100, and a mapping of dynastic specific terms from that dynasty (keys) to the equivalent term for the current one (values). When a dynastic rule refers to mapped key, it it refers to the given value. (So for Dynasty 33, if “Swashbucklers” is mapped to “Time Monks” then for the purposes of this dynasty, the first sentence of “Yo-ho-ho” says “In the spirit of piracy, all Time Monks are encouraged to”). If a ruleset link for a given Dynasty is not included on the UTD, that dynasty is considered Lost. Dynasty 100 cannot be Lost. No Time Monk may have a Lost Dynasty as their Occupied Dynasty. If a Time Monk’s Dynasty is ever Lost, their Occupied Dynasty is set to 100. The Time Buddah may update the UTD at anytime and it is the responsibility of the Time Buddah to properly fill it.

If there is a wiki page called “Unitemporal Translation Documented”, clear it.

Yeah this creates some work for Josh, but I think its necessary for this dynasty to work right.

We don’t have all the rulesets from before the switch on the wiki. Someone can hopefully track these down, but we should have a contingency for “lost” dynasties.

Hope i worded the mapping stuff right. Currently going to a dynasty doesn’t do anything because saying “A monkey can do this” is meaningless if you are not a monkey.

Proposal: Fix 1

Times out 10 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan with no effect - the text is in Rule 2.2.3 (Victory), not 2.2 (The Hard Rules).

Proposal: Changing the playing field

Timed out and passed, 7-0. Josh

Adminned at 30 May 2012 04:28:35 UTC

If there is a rule called the Hard Rules, add the following to it as a subrule, entitled “Amendments”:

The rulesets of previous dynasties may not be amended by any means, including by their own provision or by proposals. However, rules can be added to the Dynasty 100 ruleset that affect the rulesets of previous dynasties. These rules should have the name of the dynasties they affect in square brackets in their titles, and should set out exactly what effect they have – whether that be disregarding existing rules, or adding or amending new ones.

Proposal: The Hard Rules

Passes 9-0 with quorum FOR. -Bucky

Flagged as enacted by Josh, by which point it had become 10-0.

Adminned at 30 May 2012 04:14:04 UTC

Add the following as a new rule to the ruleset, entitled The Hard Rules:

The following are the Hard Rules for the Sixth Dynasty of Josh (or “Dynasty 100”). They may not be amended by any means other than a proposal and may not be superseded by any other rule. In the event of a conflict or paradox in the ruleset, the Hard Rules always take precedence.

Whenever a dynasty is referred to by number, the number related back to the chronological order as set out on the first page of the BlogNomic Wiki. This list is considered to be gamestate for the purposes of this dynasty.

===Dynastic Travel===
At any given time, each Time Monk occupies a specific dynasty from BlogNomic’s history, which is tracked in the GNDT under “Dynasty” and logged as that Dynasty’s number. This defaults to 100. A Time Monk is subject to the Dynastic Rules of the final ruleset of the Dynasty that they occupy, as well as the Core Rules, Glossary and Hard Rules of Dynasty 100. In the case of earlier Dynasties, where Core Rules and Dynastic Rules may not be mapped, the Time Buddha may make a post to the Blog detailing which rules in that Dynasty’s are considered Dynastic and while rules are considered Core.

===Gamestate Mapping===
The GNDT will have a number of fields, labelled 1-10, (this number may be increased by the Time Buddha if necessary) which correspond to the GNDT fields or trackable values of each Dynasty in the order that those GNDT fields are mentioned in the ruleset. GNDT values are considered to be cross-communicable between Dynasties. Whenever a Time Monk changes Dynasty, their GNDT values are not reset by default, although the Time Monk may elect to change any individual value to its default for the new Dynasty that they are entering.

Whenever the ruleset of the Dynasty that a Time Monk is occupying permits them to change the value of another Time Monk’s GNDT field then they may do so using the same mapping, provided that the change makes sense (for example, if Time Monk A is permitted to change Time Monk B’s “Credits” [mapped to GNDT Field 1] by 5, then they may do so provided that Time Monk B’s GNDT Field 1 is numeric.)

Each Time Monk also has a GNDT field entitled “Inventory”, which is used for any Dynasty that contains an item-ownership mechanic.

===Victory===
Each Time Monk has a field in the GNDT entitled Victories.

Whenever a Time Monk has achieved Victory in a past Dynasty, they may Declare Victory for that Dynasty by following the procedure set out in the Core Rule entitled Victory and Ascension, detailing explicitly which Dynasty they have achieved Victory in and how that Victory was achieved. A Declaration of Victory made on this basis does not cause a hiatus to begin and does not imply or confer a state of victory in Dynasty 100. If that Declaration of Victory passes then that Time Monk may iterate their Victory statistic in the GNDT by 1. They must then put an asterisk beside that Dynasty in the Dynastic History list on the front page of the Wiki; subsequently, that Dynasty may not be the Occupied Dynasty of any Time Monk, and any Time Monk for whom it is the current Occupied Dynasty must have their Dynasty set to 100.

For the avoidance of doubt, victory in Dynasty 100 may not be achieved by means of any provision of any rule in the ruleset of any other Dynasty.

I am under no illusion as to how complex this is but I think it can be made to work, doubtless with lots of bodging together…

Ascension Address: The End of Time Vihara

The End of Time Vihara is located somewhere towards the end of the heat death of the universe, and is where the Monks of Time while away eternity – an unenticing prospect, thanks to the ongoing ultimate victory of entropy and the fact that their order practiced an ascetic lifestyle that strictly forbade getting slammed on homebrew.

From here the Monks observe the aeons of the past. Because the period of its lifespan in which the universe was actually habitable was comparatively small, however, the Monks long since ran out of the juicy stuff. Most of the great mysteries of existence were solved, with the exception of why Time Buddha was so averse to homebrew; but Time Buddha was a time traveller himself, and as such was hard to track down and ask.

Eventually, however, Time Buddha slipped up.

It was a warm afternoon, mostly due to the background radiation caused by the rapid degradation of all universal matter, when the End of Time Vihara’s computers picked up Time Buddha’s trail. He had hidden his footprints well, but in 2004, for at least a decade, he had been spotted playing a game called BlogNomic; and so the Time Monks sprang into action.

The Vihara calculated that the Monks would need to work through the first 99 Dynasties of the game in order to triangulate the Time Buddha’s presence and work out his identity, and so find out why they hadn’t been drinking delicious scrumpy while the universe burned. The stakes had literally never been higher.

Remove all dynastic rules except rule 2.1; change Player to Time Monk and Net to Time Buddha.

Declaration of Victory: The Harbourmaster

Has been open for voting for at least 24 hours, has a number of FOR Votes that exceed or equal Quorum, and has a number of AGAINST Votes lesser than half of Quorum. Josh

Adminned at 27 May 2012 12:27:45 UTC

This is an automated broadcast on a secured channel. For your own safety, please do not respond.

As of yesterday, at 01h00, the army have staged a coup in Blogia and overthrown its democratic regimes. They claim legitimacy for this act on the basis that the Ansible was sabotaged by the pre-crisis elite, on the orders of otherwise unspecified alien impostors. It may be that there is more to the situation than a transparent ruse and a naked power-grab. But in the new Blogia we will never know. The boot of repression already weighs upon our shoulders, and there will be no peace for us here.

We have commandeered a small fleet of ships; the Harbourmaster is a friend of ours. We intend to leave Blogia, and soon, to build a new life for ourselves, in a place where we have freedom from oppression. We cannot linger long. The Harbourmaster has power over his domain but the eye of the military cannot be deflected forever. We intend to seek asylum with the Empire, and perhaps find a new planet to settle. If you wish to join us, then travel by night, with haste. If you chose to stay on Blogia then we wish you good luck. We suspect that you will need it.

Per the discussion on Yonah’s DoV, it appears that an unfortunate piece of wording may have rendered his victory illegitimate. If that is the case, then my power of 30 would be the greatest in the final Cycle of the dynasty, granting me victory.

This DoV does not presume the outcome of the other, which, if it passes, will cause this one to automatically fail. But as the voting is currently going against Yonah it seems sensible to have the backup option ready, so as to reduce downtime.

may i join?

Citizens! This is a public announcement from the Joint Chiefs of Staff. As of yesterday, at 0100 hours, we have declared martial law and taken over administration of Blogia. This action was taken following the revelation that members of the current administration deliberately disabled the Ansible. Further more, we have discovered that the last message sent before the Ansible was disabled contained a security alert warning that alien imposters have been discovered infiltrating numerous branches of the Empire. All members of the administration have been taken into custody pending further investigation. Any citizens who observe unusual or suspicious behavior, such as attempts to conceal the eyes, standing silently in places with an open view of the sky for prolonged periods, or apparent aversion to the presence of handheld electronic devices, should be reported to members of the Home Defense Force immediately. We urge all citizens to remain calm during this crisis, and we assure the people of Blogia that we are doing everything within our power to eliminate this threat.

Following the resolution of discrepancies, I have a grand total of 32 power, which is greater than any other player. Also, since my CONTROL guess was correct, this is the final cycle. I have therefore achieved victory under rule 2.5: Cycle Resolution.

Story Post: Request to Be Unidled

In preparation for the new dynasty—whoever it is.

The Darkness Rises

After a thorough review of the last cycle’s resolution, it is in fact my opinion that Josh has achieved victory with 30 Power. They are encouraged to explain the cause of the dark Ansible, and the fate of Blogia, in any Declarations of Victory they make in the near future.

Cycle 21 Resolution

Cpt_Koen now has 59 Credits

Why was Amnesty added to the ruleset?

The proposal that added it only triggered if Manifest Dynasty passed. It didn’t. (Also this one with the same name didn’t either: http://blognomic.com/archive/manifest_destiny/)

That rule should’ve never been added, Josh should’ve never been able to lose his councilman. I’ve reverted the change.

All quiet on the Patrick estate

Quorum remains 5.

Cycle 19 Resolution and Courthouse

Cpt_Koen now has 32 Credits, 2 Marines, and 4 Councilmen

Shenanigans

Why did the Net delete the rule “Cycle Resolutions” and replace it with a redundant institution list?

Tuesday, May 15, 2012

Proposal: Sniper Rifles

Timed out and passed, 4-1 with 2 unresolved DEFs. Josh

Adminned at 17 May 2012 08:03:17 UTC

In the rule “Institutions”, replace the effect of The Mob with:-

When specifying Directions to the Net, a Player may nominate a Player to be Hit, optionally specifying either a Military or Civilian Target. When a Player influences The Mob, the Player they nominated to be Hit loses either 1 Marine (if a Military Target was specified) or 1 Councilman (for a Civilian or unspecified Target) at the end of the resolution for that cycle, after any costs associated to directing resources have been paid.

If the Mob becomes Unpowered as a result of this change, make it Powered.

Merging the rejected Allez Mut into a more versatile Mob. Not unpowering it, since it’s only making the Mob more powerful.

Proposal: Diet Riot

Reached quorum, 5-0. Josh

Adminned at 17 May 2012 08:00:34 UTC

In the rule “Institutions”, replace “Immediately before Player would Influence an Institution that is the target of Slave Riots, 1 Marine or 5 Credits (taking whichever penalty corresponds to the resource allocated to the institution) is lost from their resources and removed from their allocation. If, subsequently, they no longer have sufficient resources allocated to that Institution for that cycle to Influence it, then the Institution is uninfluenced and remains the target of Slave Riots, but if they still have sufficient resources allocated to Influence the Institution then it is Influenced as normal and the Slave Riots are dispersed.” with:-

If a Player would influence an Institution that is the target of Slave Riots, and if they directed fewer than 6 Credits and fewer than 2 Marines at it, then the Institution is not Influenced, the Player loses all Resources they Directed at it that Cycle, the Institution is no longer the target of Slave Riots, and the Net must announce this event to all Players.

Attempting to simplify the Slave Riot effect. The “if you only bid a little more than second-place then nobody wins” mechanic possibly adds too much complexity, for the sake of an unpredictable edge case.

Would also be easier to follow what was going on if the Net were required to tell us when the Slave Riots had an effect.

Proposal: Et tu

Timed out and passed, 4-1. Josh

Adminned at 17 May 2012 07:59:28 UTC

If Proposal: Manifest Destiny passed, add the following as a new rule to the ruleset, entitled Amnesty:

In their directions for the cycle ending May 18th, Players may specify a number of Councilmen that they possess to be subject to a Councilmen Amnesty. When that cycle is resolved, each player loses that number of Councilmen and gains an amount of credits equal to the total number of Councilmen sacrificed by all players as part of this Amnesty for each Councilmen they lost in this way.

Proposal: Should probably fix this now

Reaches quorum and passes, 5-0. Josh

Adminned at 16 May 2012 23:02:27 UTC

In the Institution called “The Public” replace

In addition, during the next cycle, they may once send the Net a message containing the word CONTROL, in all caps, listing X Institutions

with

In addition, during the next cycle, they may once send the Net a message containing the word CONTROL, in all caps, listing X distinct Powered Institutions

The distinct probably isn’t necessary and I think if anyone tried to pull a “list the same instiution five times” schtick it wouldn’t pass, but if we’re changing it might as well stop them from even trying.

Currently you only need five guesses to be right. If someone else idles it’ll drop to four. Get the fleet, wait for one to be unpowered by the reactor, edit one and you’re down to needing one guess to be right in order to get a sizeable power bonus.

Cycle 18 Resolution and Watchtower

Cpt_Koen influences the Legion with 10 Credits and the Rebels with 5 Credits and now has 10 Credits, 2 Marines, and 21 Power
Clucky influences the Mine with 2 Marines and the Mob (hitting Cpt_Koen) with 3 Credits and now has 9 Credits, 4 Marines, and 20 Power
Galatea now has 59 Credits
Josh influences the Council with 7 Credits, the Courthouse with 7 Credits, and the Bank with 4 Credits, and now has 48 Credits and 26 Power
Kevan influences the Black Market with 15 Credits and the Fleet with 1 Marine and 3 Credits and now has 31 Credits and 5 Marines
Murphy now has 77 Credits
Patrick now has 65 Credits
Yonah now has 59 Credits

Watchtower:

Proposal: Manifest Destiny

Timed out. Fails 3-3—Clucky

Adminned at 15 May 2012 11:18:26 UTC

In the rule entitled “Cycle Resolution”, replace the following text:

where Y is equal to the total amount of Power owned by all other players combined,

With the following:

where Y is equal to the Power of the player (or players, if they are tied) with the greatest Power valiue immediately prior to this bonus being calculated,

At the moment the gap in power between the players is so small, the bonus as it stands is worth a massive amount, and with Proposal: Al-shaab yurid isqat looking likely to pass that means that the first player to influence the Public will likely win. This keeps the bonus and ensures that it will be meaningful (at present this bonus is worth 3 Power) but not game-overturningly so.

If each claim made by the player who influenced the Public last Cycle in their Control message was accurate, or if this is the final Cycle of the Dynasty: first, if a single Player has more Councilmen than every other player, that player gains an amount of Power equal to Y/X, where Y is equal to the total amount of Power owned by all other players combined, and X is to the number of active players.

with

If each claim made by the player who influenced the Public last Cycle in their Control message was accurate, then the player who influenced the Public gains an amount of Power equal to Y/X, where Y is equal to the total amount of Power owned by all other players combined, and X is to the number of active players, and this Cycle is the final Cycle of the Dynasty.

Then, if this is the final Cycle of the Dynasty: first, if a single Player has more Councilmen than every other player, that player gains an amount of Power equal to Y/X, where Y is equal to the total amount of Power owned by all other players combined, and X is to the number of active players.

Right now the only people who could possibly be motivated to go for the public are the power leader and the council leader. This opens the floor to the runners-up, encouraging more aggressive guessing.

Proposal: The Populous is Angry

Reaches quorum and passes, 8-0. Josh

Change, in the description of the Institution “The Public” the text:

When a player influences the Public, they lose 1 of each resource they possess at least one of

to

When a player influences the Public, they lose 1 Power

If a majority of the EVCs on this proposal contain the text “end game”, in the description of the Institution “The Watchtower”, remove the text:

When a player influences the Public, they lose 1 of each resource they possess at least one of.

More guessing = good gameplay.

Proposal: No, But Seriously

Reached quorum and passed, 6-0. Josh

Adminned at 09 May 2012 23:26:04 UTC

Change, in the rule “Cycle Resolution” the text:

The player that influenced 96189 Pygmalion in the previous Cycle gains 1 Credit for each Resource Galactic Galatea gained this Cycle.

to

The player that influenced 96189 Pygmalion in the previous Cycle gains Y-X Credits, where Y is equal to the total number of Resources Galactic Galatea currently possesses and X is equal to the total number of Resources Galactic Galatea possessed at the beginning of the current Cycle, if Y-X is positive.

Institution is still somewhat broken.

Proposal: This Institution Sucks

Timed out and failed, 4-2. Josh

Add a new Institution called “Syphon Station” and give it the following text:

When specifying Directions to the Net, a Player to make their Syphon Target. When a Player influences the Syphon Station, if they nominated a Syphon Target the Syphon Target loses two Power (to a minimum of zero) and then the Player who influenced the Syphon Station gains Power lost. (Note that if the Syphon Target only loses one power, the influencer only gains one power).

Mine + Mob!

Proposal: Double Vision

Timed out and failed, 2-3. Josh

Adminned at 09 May 2012 23:25:12 UTC

Add a new Institution, call it “Replicant Plant” and give it the following text

When specifying Directions to the Net, a Player may nominate a Player other than themselves to Copy.

After

The player that influenced 96189 Pygmalion in the previous Cycle gains 1 Credit for each Resource Galactic Galatea gained this Cycle.

add

If the Player that influenced the Replicant Plant during the previous cycle also picked a Player to Copy, Player that influenced the Replicant Plant gains copies of all the Resources gained by the Player they Copied from Influencing Institutions (Resources gained by Restocking or Bonuses do not count for this)

Lets you piggyback on another players success, might backfire if that player doesn’t influence anything, but also might give you a cheaper mine.

No copying yourself, because that could get out of hand fast (if you can lock down both the mine and the replicant plant, that is at least 10 power, 14 if you get the watchtower or slave pits as well)

Kevan influences the Public with 5 Credits and now has 70 Credits and 14 Power
Murphy now has 39 Credits
Patrick now has 59 Credits
Yonah influences the Black Market with 1 Marine and 6 Credits and 96189 Pygmalion with 1 Marine and 2 Credits and now has 30 Credits and 4 Marines

The Legion, Bank, and Rebels were Powered but not Influenced.

Theming is cool, but spacing is getting really frustrating as I’m trying to write it out every time its in the system.

Proposal: End Game Fix

Time out - passes 4-3—Clucky

If the proposal “The Final Countdown” linked here: http://blognomic.com/archive/the_final_countdown3/ fails to pass, this proposal does nothing.

After “Then, if a single Player has more Power than every other player, that player has achieved victory.” add
“Otherwise, a Player will be chosen from the group of Players who are all tied for the most Power in the following manner and that chosen Player has achieved victory: The Player with the most Credits is chosen, if a tie remains choose the Player with the most Marines (from those tied for Power and Credits), and if a tie remains choose a Player with the most Councilmen (from those tied for Power, Marines and Credits), if a tie still the Net shall choose the Player (from tied for everything). Currently if no one has the most power we just try again next cycle. This was fine until we’re putting a hard stop. If we’re tied at the end, no one will be able to win. Assuming I worded it right the tiebreakers are credits then marines then councilmen (as councilmen are already useful in determining who wins and we don’t want to encourage stockpiling marines). I thought about adding more stuff like “Whoever influenced the most institutions”, but honestly the chances of “tied for everything” are so unlikely that I’m perfectly fine letting SPC choose the winner if it occurs.

Add a new sentence to the paragraph starting with “Then, players Restock” in rule 2.5 “Cycle Resolution”:

If a Player did not send any valid Direction this Cycle, their amount of Credits is either doubled, or increased by the number of currently Powered Institutions, not counting the Public, whichever would make it lower.

If a majority of the EVC on this Proposal contains the text “FORMULATION B IS BETTER”, substitute for that sentence:

If a Player did not send any valid Direction this Cycle, they earn in Credits the minimum of their current amount of Credits and the number of currently Powered Institutions (not counting the Public).

The two sentences are supposed to be equivalent, except for the (hugely bad faith-requiring) flaw “if x and y are equal, then neither x nor y is lower” in the first formulation.

Basically not submitting Directions would be equivalent to submitting the Direction “send 1 Credit to every Powered Institutions, if I have enough Credits” (with the exception of the Public because you wouldn’t want to win it with 1 Credit). And with the inconvenient that you can’t actually Influence any Institution this way. And maybe there’s an issue with the Bank, too.

EDIT: Made it a Proposal within 15 minutes.

Add a new Institution called “Cyborg Factory” and give it the following text

When a Player Influences the Cyborg Factory, they a gain X/3 Marines, rounded down, where X is the total number of Power they directed to the Cyborg Factory.

Add a new Institution called “Altar” and give it the following text

When a Player Influences the Altar they a gain 5X Power where X is the total number of Councilmen they directed to the Altar.

Change the text of the Council to “When a player Influences the Council, provided they have never previously influenced the Altar, they gain 1 Power and 1 Councilman. “

Based on the Legion and the mine, 1 marine is as hard to get as five power. But this takes an extra turn, so seems fair. Also got rid of the whole ‘lose it if you don’t win it’ rule.

Altar is nerfed, and puts on bad terms with the Council. you can still get councilmen then kill them off with the public, but that’s harder.
