Thursday UPDATE: To encourage signups, the cost of participating in the Water Triathlon has been reduced by one.

Event #3: Rock Paper Scissors Tournament
Starts on Sunday/Costs 1 TP to compete/Only 8 can compete

This is a basic tournament. Olympians will be split into pairs and compete in games. The winners of each game will move on and the losers will not.

Only eight of our Olympians may join this event. Any member who does not compete in the water triathlon will have preference when competing in this event. Competing in this event takes 1 TP. To sign up, make a comment to this post of SIGN UP: RPS by 12:00 AM on Sunday. Each Olympian may only sign up once.  The event will start and take place then.(Or as soon thereafter as someone can complete the event.) If fewer than 8 Olympians sign up, the remaining spots will be filled with copies of the coach, baring the coach’s arributes. If one of these copies wins a medal, the Blognomic team receives the medal.

The outcome of Games are determined as follows:

Each contestant makes a wits roll. If the result of the roll is more than twice the result of the other wits roll, the Olympian who rolled the higher wits roll has dominated their competition and wins the game. If not, roll a DICE2 to determine the winner of the game. A one means that the Olympian who’s name appears first in Alphabetical Order wins and a two means the other Olympian wins. The winner of the game advanced to the next game. The winner of game 17 receives a Gold Medal; the loser of game 17 a Silver Medal, and the winner of Game 18 a Bronze Medal. The results of each game are kept for history’s sake on the events page of the wiki.

The structure of games is as follows. The first Olympian to join will compete in game one, the second in game 2, etc…

Game 1:
McRock (Rand McNally): Automatically wins if e faces McScissors; Wits: 5

Proposal: Victory by Heroism

Selfkilled. Adminned by Rodney.

Adminned at 03 Jan 2007 06:27:45 UTC

Add a new Rule to the Ruleset.  Call it “Superstar” and give it the following text:

For the purposes of this Rule and its subrules, an Olympian’s score is defined as three times eir Gold Medals, plus twice eir Silver Medals, plus twice eir Popularity, plus eir Bronze Metals.  A Team’s Score is the sum of the scores of its Olympians, if any, plus the Score an Olympian with its GNDT stats would have.  All Teams have a Popularity of 7 for the purposes of Score.

If an Olympian has a greater Score than all Teams of which e is not a member, e is considered a Hero and has achieved victory.

Add a new Subrule to the Rule entitled “Olympic Events”.  Call it “Scandals” and give it the following text:

Whenever an Infamous Olympian attempts to sign up for an event, e must make a DICE5 roll in the GNDT and report the result in a comment to the post announcing the event.  If the result is greater than eleven plus eir Popularity, e gets pulled from that event and may not compete in it unless no other Olympian signs up for the event without being pulled from it.

Proposal: Glass Medal and Tin Medal

Fails 1-3. Clucky

Adminned at 30 Dec 2006 12:58:49 UTC

New rule proposal: The Glass Medal and the Tin Medal.

A glass medal is awarded to the author of a proposal that passes unanimously (i.e. with no votes against), or that passes with at least four more votes for than votes against (disregarding, for this purpose, any votes other than for or against) (such a proposal being referred to as a “Glass Medal Proposal”.  A tin medal is awarded to the first person, other than the author, who votes for a proposal that ends up being a Glass Medal Proposal.  Neither the proposal to adopt this rule nor any proposal made before the proposal to adopt this rule may be a Glass Medal Proposal.

The French Skating Judge (repost, amended)

Edited again to recategorize from “Proposal” to “Null”.  Bucky pointed out that my edits after the initial posting made this purported proposal illegal under the rules.

Reformatted again, in an effort to conform to other rules.  (I would have thought that internal numbering would be a useful aid to citation.)

Proposed new rule: “The French Skating Judge”, to be a subrule under Part 2.

There exist currency units, called “bucks”. Each Olympian’s bucks are marked in the GNDT in a column called “$”. An Olympian may not have less than zero Bucks. Each time an Olympian spends one or more Bucks, that number of Bucks is deducted from the Olympian’s total number of Bucks. No Olympian may attempt to spend more Bucks than e has.  Initially, each Olympian has zero
An Olympian with a Popularity of at least 1 may convert any positive number of eir Popularity points into Bucks. By way of illustration, an Olympian with a Popularity of 3 may convert up to 3 Popularity points into Bucks, and if the Olympian converted 2 Popularity points into Bucks, then the Olympian’s Bucks would be increased by 2 and eir Popularity would be decreased by 2. [Comment- this is supposed to represent an Olympian cashing in on eir popularity by engaging in paid endorsements.]  The rules may specify other means by which an Olympian can obtain or lose Bucks. If an Olympian spends Bucks, the number of Bucks that are spent are deducted from eir total Bucks.

An Olympic event may be designated as a “Judged Event”. [Comment- this is supposed to reflect competitions where the results are determined by, or influenced by, judges (e.g., figure skating, gymnastics, diving, boxing under certain circumstances, and so on.)]   No Event may be designated as a “Judged Event” after the event has closed.  If an Olympic event is designated as a “Judged Event”, then any Olympian may spend Bucks to try to influence the outcome of the event, in accordance with the following (in which case this rule overrides the rules normally applicable to that event):
1. The Olympian must declare the number of Bucks that e is spending on attempting to influence the outcome of the event. This number of Bucks is considered spent whether or not the attempt is successful. [This represents bribing the French judge.]
2. The Olympian then must roll 1DICE20. If the result of the roll is less than or equal to the number of Bucks that the Olympian spent under subpart 1 above, then the attempt is considered successful (subject to subpart 5 below)
3. An Olympian who successfully influences the outcome of the event in accordance with subpart 2 above may designate any Olympian (including emself) as the gold medal winner of the event (subject to subparts 4 and 5 below) (and the Olympians who would have won medals but for successful attempts to influence the outcome in accordance with this rule are accordingly demoted (i.e., gold-to-silver, silver-to-bronze, bronze-to-no medal.)
4. If two or more Olympians successfully influence the outcome of a single event in accordance with subpart 2 above, then the Olympian who rolled the lowest successful 1DICE20 to influence the outcome of the event may designate the gold medal winner, the Olympian who rolled the next lowest successful 1DICE20 to influence the outcome of the event may designate the silver medal winner, and if applicable, the Olympian who rolled the next lowest successful 1DICE20 to influence the outcome of the next lowest successful 1DICE20 to influence the outcome of the event may designate the bronze medal winner.
5. Notwithstanding anything to the contrary in this rule, if any two Olympians attempt to influence the outcome of a particular event in accordance with this rule and they have identical 1DICE20 rolls, then both attempts are considered unsuccessful.
The rules may specify other ways that Olympians can spend Bucks.

In Rule 2.3.2, change the sentence

Any time an Olympian makes an attribute roll less than 2X or greater than 9X(where X is the number of DICE10 rolled) e gains X training points.

to

Any time an Olympian makes an attribute roll less than 2X or greater than 9X(where X is the number of DICE10 rolled) during an Event, e gains X training points.

Also, confiscate all TP gained through Attribute Checks made outside of Events, and undo any Attribute purchaces made with those TP.

Add a new subrule to the Rule entitled “Popularity”.  Call it “Obscurity” and give it the following text:

Every Sunday at noon, any Olympian who has done none of the things on the following list since the last Sunday at noon loses 1 popularity:
*Increased an Attribute
*Competed in an Event
*Had eir Popularity changed by any other Rule than this one
*Be granted an Exception for that week by the Coach.

This Rule cannot cause a loss of Popularity before the year 2007, but if it is 2007 any Olympian may remove this sentence from the Ruleset.

Proposal: Advanced Training

SKed. Again. Clucky

Adminned at 26 Dec 2006 13:35:03 UTC

Add the following rule called “Specialization”

An Olympian may choose to specialize in a certain area by using a special trainer. Trainers are marked in a column of the GNDT called “Trainer”. An Olympian may often change eir trainer, but may not change eir trainer more than two times per week. Trainers, as well as the benefits and requirements for using the trainers, are described below:

*Normal Trainer: Requirements: None. Any Olympian without a trainer has this trainer. Effect: An Olympian using this trainer may occasionally increase eir training points by one.
*Lucky Trainer: An Olympian must have attributes at least 2,2,2,10 and Popularity at least three to begin to use this trainer. Effect: When a Olympian using this trainer makes an attributes role, e rolls a DICE11 instead of a DICE10.
*Powerful Trainer: An Olympian must either have attributes of at least 5,5,5,5 or strength of at least 10 to begin to use this trainer. Effect: When an Olympian uses this trainer, the cost of training strength is cut in half and rounded up. Thus, if e has attributes 9,5,4,3 e must only spend 5 TP to increase eir strength.
*Banned Trainer: An Olympian must have popularity below -5 to begin to use this trainer. . Effect: The first time an Olympian switches to this trainer, e loses 3 popularity. When e attempts to cheat, e rolls a DICE12 instead of a DICE10. Eir popularity cannot raise about -5 while under this trainer. Anything which would raise eir poluarity about five
*Star Trainer: An Olympian must have popularity above 5 to begin to use this trainer. Effect: An Olympian using this trainer may often spend 2N training points to increase eir popularity from N to N+1.

The sticked post is too big. It should mainly be moved to the events page of the wiki..

Replace rule 2.5 Olympic Events with the following

There is a post stickied to the top of the blog called “Upcoming Events”. This post may often be edited by the coach to include new events. Each upcoming event should be mentioned by name and a brief summery.

For each upcomming event, the coach must also update the “Upcomming Events” section of the Events Page on the Wiki detailing the event. The detailing should include

  * 1) A cost(In TP) for competing in the event.
  * 2) Any additional criteria for participating in the event.
  * 3) The Conditions for Termination of the event
  * 4) The Conditions for Awarding Medals once the Event has terminated
  * 5) A list of rivals who will be competing in the event

The Conditions for Termination must be possible. The Conditions for Awarding Medals must be such that and equal number of Bronze, Silver and Gold medals are awarded. Medals can only be awarded to Olympians who meet all the Criteria for Participation.

When the Conditions for Termination are met, Medals are Awarded based on the Conditions for Awarding Medals. Any Olympian which earned a medal will have eir proper medal increased by one in the GNDT(That is, a student who wins a “Gold Medal” will have “Gold” increased by one) Any rival which earns a medal will have that rival’s team’s proper medal increased by one.

The event is then removed from the “Upcoming Events” section of the Events page and added, along with results, to the “Old Events” section of the Events Page on the Wiki.
The event is also removed from the Upcoming events post on the blog.

Olympians are encouraged to send the Coach ideas for Events by updating the talk section of the events page on the Wiki.

If more than half of the Olympians who for FOR this proposal also say “We need the text” add the following to Rule 2.1.

Blognomic as a team also has a collection of medals. This collection is tracked in a separate row called “Blognomic” on the GNDT

An Olympian may, at any time, make a comment of CHEAT DICE10. Add the following subrule to rule 2.4: Popularity

  Gaining popularity by winning medals:
When an Olympian has eir collection of medals changed then eir Popularity changes according to the following:

All references to medal in the collection refer to the situation before the collection was changed.

If e has three Gold medals in eir collection then having a medal added to eir collection will if it’s:
-Gold: Increase eir Popularity by one.
  -Silver: Do nothing.
  -Bronze: Do nothing.

Else if e has three medals in eir collection then having a medal added to eir collection will if it’s:
-Gold: Increase eir Popularity by two.
-Silver: Increase eir Popularity by one.
  -Bronze: Do nothing.

Else having a medal added to eir collection will if it’s:
-Gold: Increase eir Popularity by three.
-Silver: Increase eir Popularity by two.
-Bronze: Increase eir Popularity by one.

If a medal is removed from eir collection eir Popularity is decreased by three.

This is also quite a lot simpler.

Proposal: Another type of Roll

Self-killed
Failed by Hix

Adminned at 16 Dec 2006 18:18:06 UTC

Rewrite 2.3 as follows:

Sometimes the rules might call for a type of roll. Types of possible rolls are as follows:

*Attributes Roll. A XDICE10 shall be rolled, where X is the sum of the scores an Olympian has in the listed Attributes. For Example, if an Olympian has a Att of 2,3,3,2 and a rule calls for a Strength Roll, e should roll 2DICE10. If the rule calls for a Dexterity+Stamina Roll, instead, that same Olympian should roll 6DICE10. In a 2*Stamina+Wits Roll e should roll 8DICE10.
*Attributes Check. A DICEX shall be rolled, where X is the sum of the scores an Olympian has in the listed Attributes. For Example, if an Olympian has an Att of 2,3,3,2 and a rule calls for a Strength Check, 3 should roll DICE2. If the rule calls for a Dexterity+Stamina Check, e should roll a DICE6. In a 2*Stamina+Wits Check, e should roll DICE8.

While other things also contributes, let us get the obvious one first:

Add the following subrule to rule 2.4: Popularity

Gaining popularity by winning medals:
When an Olympian has e’s collection of medals changed then e’s Popularity changes according to the following:

All references to medal in the collection refer to the situation before the collection was changed.

If e has six Gold medals in e’s collection then having a medal added to e’s collection will if it’s:
-Gold: Increase e’s Popularity by one.
-Silver: Do nothing.
-Bronze: Do nothing.

Else if e has, the same number or a higher number, of Gold medals than Silver medals in e’s collection then having a medal added to e’s collection will if it’s:
-Gold: Increase e’s Popularity by two.
-Silver: Increase e’s Popularity by one.
-Bronze: Do nothing.

Else if e has, the same number or a higher number, of Silver medals than Bronze medals in e’s collection then having a medal added to e’s collection will if it’s:
-Gold: Increase e’s Popularity by three.
-Silver: Increase e’s Popularity by two.
-Bronze: Increase e’s Popularity by one.

If a medal is removed from e’s collection e’s Popularity is decreased by three.

Add the following sub rule called “Training” to Attributes

Each Olympian has a certain number of training points, marked in the GNDT is a column called “TP”

At any time, an Olympian may spend N of eir own training points to raise one of eir attributes from N to N+1.

Training Points can be earned in the following ways:
*Often, an Olympian may give every current Olympian one Training Point, provided no other Olympian has done so that day. If e does so, he must give every current Olympian the training point.
*Any time a proposal passes, its author gains one training point.
*Any time an Olympian makes an attribute roll less than 2X or greater than 9X(where X is the number of DICE10 rolled) e gains X training points.
*If an new Olympian joins, e starts with X training points, where X is equal to the average(rounded down) of the total of each other Olympian’s attributes. So if Clucky had 2,3,3,3; Elias had 4,2,2,3; and Bucky had 3,3,5,1 and then Thrawn joined, e would get (11+11+12)/3 = 11 Training Points.

Set the Training Points of each Olympian to 8.

Add a bullet point to the Glossary, right before the one that begins “Superficial differences between the spelling…”, reading:

Unless otherwise specified:  When “X” is a number, to spend X of a numeric value “V” means to subtract X from V (i.e. replace V with V-X); no action may be taken which requires spending X of a numeric value when the subtraction would result in a number which is illegal as a replacement for that value (e.g. if the value represents a variable which is restricted to non-negative integers, but the subtraction comes up negative).

In practice, this may how we already manage things, but I don’t think specifying it in the Glossary creates unnecessary clutter.  Besides, without something like this, I’ll freak out every time there is a rule that doesn’t specify “A player with at least 50 pesos may spend 50…”, for example.

Add the following sub rule called “Training” to Attributes

Each Olympian has a certain number of training points, marked in the GNDT is a column called “TP”

Training Points can be earned in the following ways:
*Often, a Olympian may give every current Olympian one Training Point; provided no other Olympian has done so that day. If e does so, he must give every current Olympian the training point.
*Any time an Olympian writes a proposal that passes, e gains one training point.
*Any time an Olympian makes an attribute roll less than 2X or greater than 9X(where X is the number of DICE10 rolled); e gains X training points.
*If an new Olympian joins, e starts with X training points, where X is equal to the average(rounded down) of total number of attributes earned by each of the Olympians. So if Clucky had 2,3,3,3; Elias had 4,2,2,3; and Bucky had 3,3,5,1 and then Thrawn joined, e would get (11+11+12)/3 = 11 Training Points. Because of this, all current Olympians start with 8 training points.

Idea for Training

I think we should talk about how to making training attributes work here, and then turn it into a real proposal that will actually pass.

What do people think about this idea:

Each Olympian has a certain number of training points, marked in the GNDT is a column called “TP”

At any time, a Olympian may spend N trading points to raise one of eir attributes from N to N+1.

Training Points can be earned in the following ways:

Often, a Olympian may give every current Olympian one Training Point; provided no other Olympian has done so that day. If e does so, he must give every current Olympian the training point.
Any time an Olympian writes a proposal that passes, e gains one training point.
Any time an Olympian makes an attribute roll less than 2X or greater than 9X(where X is the number of DICE10 rolled); e gains X training points.

The X TP instead of 1 TP is because the odds of getting 2X less or 9X greater become less and less with each roll. For example, DICE10 has a 20% chance at getting 1 or a 10, but 2DICE10 has only a 6% chance at getting less than 4 or greater than 18. 3DICE100 has a 2% chance; and the odds keep dropping from there.

Another idea someone pitched was that you could train if you chose to skip an event. But I am not sure what I think of that idea.

Whenever an Attribute Roll is called for, a Target number shall be assigned to that Roll. Said Roll shall be considered as Successful if the result is lower than or equal to that Target number. A Roll which is not Successful is considered to be Unsuccessful.

If a Target number is not explicitly stated when an Attribute Roll is called for, the Target Number shall be equal to 5 times X, where X is the number of DICE10 rolled in that roll.

Create a rule called “Olympic Events”

There is a post stickied to the top of the blog called “Upcoming Event”. This post may often be edited by the coach to include new events. Each upcoming event should be outlined in the post and contain each of the following:

1)a set of Criteria for participation in the Event
2)the Conditions for Termination of the event
3)the Conditions for Awarding Medals once the Event has terminated
4) A list of rivals who will be competing in the event

The event, along with the results, is then removed from the “Upcoming Events” post and added to Events Page on the Wiki.

Olympians are encouraged to send the Coach ideas for Events.

Also, set everyone’s Bronze, Silver and Gold Metals to 0, unless this has already been done, and create a Wiki page called “Events Page”

An Olympian with a Popularity of -7 or below is called “Infamous”.
An Olympian with a Popularity of -3 or below is called “Unpopular”.
An Olympian with a Popularity of 3 or above is called “Popular”.

Proposal: Teamwork

Adminned at 14 Dec 2006 01:57:09 UTC

Create a new dynastic rule entitled “Teams” with the text:

There are several teams an Olympian may be a member of. An Olympian may become a member of a team if e is not a member of any team. An Olympian may remove emself from eir team if e has been a member of that team for at least 48 hours. An Olympian may be removed from a team at any time by that team’s captain. The team an Olympian is a member of is shown in the GNDT, along with any position e has in the team (in the format Team:Position). An Olympian may have only one position in a team.
Each team has one or more positions. All teams have the position of Captain. A team’s Captain is appointed by the Coach from all members of that team. Any other positions in a team are appointed by the team’s captain from all members of the team. The number of Olympians that may have that position is recorded next to the name of the position.

List of Teams
*Football

Positions: Captain (1)
Goalkeeper (1)
Striker (1)
Midfielder (3)
Back (3)
Foreward (2)

Add a GNDT column “Team”
Teams could be used for events where the medals recieved depend on different checks for different positions. I don’t want to work out the mechanics of it until some of the other proposals pass.

Proposal: Let the coach run the show.

Timed Out. Fails 1-2. Admined by Clucky

Adminned at 13 Dec 2006 18:46:03 UTC

This is flexable enough to give Clucky room for Interpretation, yet tight enough that us Olympians know what’s going on.
Add a new Rule to the Ruleset.  Call it “Olympic events” and give it the following text:

Often the Coach may start an Event by making a sticky post to the Blog with a title “Event:XXX”, where XXX is the Event’s name.  This shall be called an Event Post.  The Event Post must contain each of the following:
1)a set of Criteria for participation in the Event
2)the Conditions for Termination of the event
3)the Conditions for Awarding Medals once the Event has terminated
the Conditions for Termination must be possible.  The Conditions for Awarding Medals must be such that only one each of Bronze, Silver and Gold medals can be awarded per Event, and the number of total Medals awarded in an Event must be the lesser of 3 and the number of Olympians meeting all the Criteria for Participation.  Medals can only be awarded to Olympians who meet all the Criteria for Participation.

When the Conditions for Termination are met, Medals are Awarded based on the Conditions for Awarding Medals, and the Event ceases to exist.

Players are encouraged to send the Coach ideas for Events.

Also, set everyone’s Bronze, Silver and Gold Metals to 0, unless this has already been done.

Proposal: Training

Timed out. Failed 3-5. Admined by Clucky

Adminned at 13 Dec 2006 17:57:46 UTC

If the Proposal titled “Attributes” failed, this Proposal does nothing.
Else, create a sub rule of “Attributes” called “Training”.

An Olympian may often attempt to train one of eir Attributes by making a comment to the GNDT of “Train XXX DICEN” where XXX is the attribute the student is attempting to train, and N is the current value of that attribute for the student. If the result of the dice roll is equal to 1 or N, then the training succeeds and that attribute is increased by one.

Proposal: Rolls

Adminned at 13 Dec 2006 13:53:52 UTC

If the Rule “Attributes” does not exist, this Proposal does nothing.

Add a sub-rule “Rolls” to rule “Attributes”:

Any time a rule calls for an Attributes Roll, XDICE10 shall be rolled, where X is the sum of the scores an Olympian has in the listed Attributes. For Example, if an Olympian has a Att of 2,3,3,2 and a rule calls for a Strength Roll, e should roll 2DICE10. If the rule calls for a Dexterity+Stamina Roll, instead, tha same Olympian should roll 6DICE10. In a Stamina+Wits Roll e should roll 5DICE10.

Proposal: Attributes

7-2. Reached Quorum.—Chronos

Adminned at 13 Dec 2006 13:46:16 UTC

Create a rule Attributes:

An Olympian’s capacity to achieve sportive feats is measured by eir Attributes. The Attributes an Olympian have are listed at the end of this rule. The score an Olympian has in each Attribute is tracked by the GNDT’s column “Att” as a comma separated list, with the Attributes in the same order they are listed here.

New Olympians start with a score of “2” in each Attribute.

* ’‘'Attributes’‘’:
** ’‘'Strength’‘’ ’‘- It’s the raw, brute power of an Olympian. It governs how much weight an Olympian can lift, how much e can physically push an how hard e can hit another Olympian or an object.’‘
** ‘’‘Dexterity’‘’ ’‘- It measures an Olympian’s general physical prowess. It encompasses the Olympian’s speed, agility and overall quickness, as well as indicating the Olympian’s ability to manipulate objects with control and precision.’‘
** ’‘'Stamina’‘’ ’‘-It reflects an Olympian’s health, toughness and resilience. It indicates how long an Olympian can exert eirself and how much punishment e can withstand before suffering physical trauma.’‘
** ’‘'Wits’‘’ ’‘-It measures an Olympian’s ability to think on eir feet and react quickly to a certain situation.’‘

Create a GNDT column “Att” and give it the value of “2,2,2,2” for each player.

By the way, we need to change the page title. The page says “First Dynasty of Clucky”, but the title still says “Second Dynasty of Rodney”.

Proposal: Medal earning protocol

1-6. Cannot be enacted w/o CoV.—Chronos

Adminned at 13 Dec 2006 13:44:41 UTC

Add to the section “Olympic Medals”:

An Olympian may occasionally roll DICE100 to compete in an Olympic tournament. If:

  • The dice roll is 90 or above: The Olympian earns a Gold Medal.
  • The dice roll is between 75 and 89: The Olympian earns a Silver Medal.
  • The dice roll is 60 to 74: The Olympian earns a Bronze Medal.
  • The dice roll is 59 or below: No medal is earned.
If the Proposal titled “Rivals” failed, the following section does nothing.

If no medal is earned, then a medal is awarded to one of the rivals. Which rival and which medal are determined by dice rolls in the fashion that the Olympians determine medals.

We have no protocol for earning medals, and the medal designation is useless otherwise.

Proposal: Events and Victory Condition

Self-killed and failed. Josh

Adminned at 12 Dec 2006 01:41:13 UTC

Add the following section to the Rule “Olympic Medals”:

Events

There will be five Events on which an Olympian can win a Medal—Sprint Swimming, Downhill Slalom, Chess, Ten-Mile Run, and Judo. Each Event will have its own column in the GNDT, where a Gold Medal will be worth 5, a Silver Medal 3, and a Bronze Medal 1. If an Olympian has 5 points in each Event, that Olympian has achieved victory. The point values are arbitrary—you can suggest changes to them.

Create a new Dynastic Rule called “Rivals” with text:

From time to time, our Olympians will fail to win a medal, and the medal will instead be awarded to a competitor from another nation.  The bulleted list at the end of this rule contains the names of all other nations which are considered competitive enough to possibly win a medal from us.  There is a GNDT row named for each such nation.  The “Gold”, “Silver”, and “Bronze” entries in a nation’s row track all the gold, silver, and bronze (respectively) medals won by competitors from that nation.

An illegal adminning

Saki seems to have passed a pending proposal, even though we are still in Hiatus.  I believe this is illegal.  Also, it’s in bad form to pass proposals after a dynasty-ending Hiatus and before the new Emperor has had a chance to veto it.

In this case it probably won’t matter since Clucky’s probably going to throw the affected Rule out, anyway, so I’m not going to bother everyone with a CfJ.

If two planets are dignified in different water signs, and both are in a stellium, or three planets are dignified and in a Grand Trine in water signs and there is a conjunction in each of those signs, the stars are right and Cthulhu is summoned: the student serving Cthulhu with the highest Mythos has achieved victory.

Rules for Obtaining Books(Round 5)

I’ve added stuff to deal with monsters. Read 2.e and all of four and tell me what you think

1) Every student, including the Librarian, has a set number of freshly baked cookies from the Academy Dining Hall, which are tracked column in the GNDT called “Cookies”.

2) Cookies may be earned in the following ways:
—-a)Anytime a student writes a proposal which passes, e gains one cookie.
—-b)Occasionally, a student my make a comment of “BAKE DICE3”. E gains cookies equal to the value of the role.
—-c)Often, a student may make a comment to the GNDT of “WAGER N XXX DICE2” Where XXX is the name of another student and N is a integer number of cookies posses by both the target and the student making the comment. If the result of the DICE2 check is a one, the student making the comment steals N of the targeted student’s cookies. If the result of the DICE2 check is a two, the student making the comment must give N of eir cookies to the targeted student.
—-d)Any time a student takes an action that causes another student, besides the librarian, to become lost, e gains all cookies possessed by that student.
—-e)Any time a student defeats a monster, e gains a cookie.

3) At any time a non-librarian student by purchase a tome from the librarian by giving the librarian a number of cookies equal to the value of the tome. Tomes are valued as follows:
—-i)Unlimited Copies, or 5 or more available copies: 5 cookies
—-ii)3 or 4 available copies: 6 cookies
—-iii)2 available copies: 8 cookies
—-iv)1 available copy: 10 cookies

4) Monsters behave the following way with cookies
—-a) If a student fails to defeat a monster, the monsters gain a cookie.
—-b) If the sanity reduction caused by the monsters result in a student’s name being added to the lost list, the monsters gain all cookies posses by that student.
—-c) Any time a proposal fails, the monsters gain a cookie.
—-d) Any time the monsters have ten cookies, they gain a tome(and lose ten cookies) according to the following rules:
——When the monsters acquire a tome, they will take the tome with the most available copies(provided they do not already possess that tome, of course). In the case where two tomes have the same number of available copies, they will take the tome that is higher up on the list of tomes.
—-e) If a student defeats a monster in combat, and the monsters currently posses a tome; the student may choose one tome from the monsters tomes and return that tome to the Librarian. If e does so, e gains a second cookie for defeating that monster.

Proposal: Even Planets and Signs

Timed out 2-3 -Saki

Adminned at 10 Dec 2006 17:46:09 UTC

Rewrite “Discovery”, so it reads:

Occasionally, a student may attempt to discover a new planet by making a comment of “Discovery DICE100 DICE100”. If both dice results are less than the students mythos level, the student has discovered a new planet. E must then make a post boasting about eir discovery on the blog. The post must contain the planet’s name, if the planet is Personal, Transpersonal or Generational and the sign the new Planet is regent to. This action is considered a Strenuous activity.

If any sign has only one regent, then the discovering student must choose one of those signs to assign to the new planet. If there is no sign with only one regent, then the discovering student may choose any sign for the new planet to be regent to.

The choice between Personal, Transpersonal or Generational shall abide to the following constraints:

* The choice must not cause the number of Personal Planets to be greater than half the number of Planets.
* The choice must not cause the number of Transpersonal Planets to be greater than the number of Generational Planets.

If any Discovery has been made since the posting of this Proposal that would be contrary to its stipulations, undo it and any consequences thereafter.

The idea here is making it more difficult to bring faster planets into existence.

I’m looking through the profiles of other members, and it seems that anyone who is not an Administrator is Idle. This may have something to do with the “Super Admin” Clucky encountered, or it may have nothing to do with it at all.

In any case, Thrawn and I are still unadminified. What is going on?

Going to sleep

Rules for Obtaining Books(Round 4)

It occurs to me that the Tome of the Week program breaks down once all copies of the Tome are gone.  Adjustments made.

The Tome of the Week is now Nine Princes in Amber.

1)The Librarian is not a Student for the purposes of these Rules, except where it explicitly says otherwise.  (This makes sure I can’t grant myself Tomes.)
2)A Tome is Available if there are more Copies of that tome than Students holding that Tome, including the Librarian.
3)There is a Tome that is the Tome of the Week.  The Librarian may occasionally change the Tome of the Week.  E may also change the Tome of the Week at any time if it is not Available.  If the Tome of the Week is Available, any Student may acquire a copy of that Tome.
4)Whenever a Student becomes Lost as a result of the Soul Duel spell, the other Student involved in that Soul Duel may acquire an Available Tome of eir choice.
5)Whenever a Student casts a spell that lowers any Student’s sanity (including eir own) to below -100 and causes em to become Lost for that reason, the Student who cast the spell may acquire an Available Tome of eir choice per Student that becomes lost in this manner.
6)Whenever a Student casts a spell that raises any Student’s Thirst (including eir own) above 20 and causes em to become Lost for that reason, the Student who cast the spell may acquire an Available Tome of eir choice per Student that becomes lost in this manner, unless the Student who cast the spell recieves a tome from Rule 5 for the same Student-spell pair.

Proposal: Make Clucky Librarian

48 hours is up. According to the rules of Librarian Elections, this passes 50 to 5. Enacted by Clucky.

Adminned at 09 Dec 2006 14:04:24 UTC

Bucky has had the job long enough. Time for change. Here is a rough draft of the rules I will begin using if I am elected:

1)Every student, including the Librarian, has a set number of freshly baked cookies from the Academy Dining Hall, which are tracked column in the GNDT called “Cookies”.

2)Cookies may be earned in the following ways:
a)Anytime a student writes a proposal which passes, e gains one cookie.
b)Occasionally, a student my make a comment of “BAKE DICE3”. E gains cookies equal to the value of the role.
c)Often, a student may make a comment to the GNDT of “WAGER N XXX DICE2” Where XXX is the name of another student and N is a integer number of cookies posses by both the target and the student making the comment. If the result of the DICE2 check is a one, the student making the comment steals N of the targeted student’s cookies. If the result of the DICE2 check is a two, the student making the comment must give N of eir cookies to the targeted student.
d)Any time a student takes an action that causes another student, besides the librarian, to become lost, e gains all cookies possessed by that student.

3)At any time a non-librarian student by purchase a tome from the librarian by giving the librarian a number of cookies equal to the value of the tome. Tomes are valued as follows:
i)Unlimited Copies, or 5 or more available copies: 5 cookies
ii)3 or 4 available copies: 6 cookies
iii)2 available copies: 8 cookies
iv)1 available copy: 10 cookies

Add a column to the GNDT called “Cookies”.

Proposal: The monster are coming again!

7-0. Reached Quorum.

Adminned at 08 Dec 2006 10:10:47 UTC

Create a new rule, enitiltled “Monsters”, with the following text:

There can be any whole number of Monsters outside the campus.  This is listed under the Thirst column in the Monster row. Whenever a student decreases eir own thirst, a new monster arrives outside the campus.

Any student may often make a comment of “Fight DICEX” in the GNDT, where X is the number of Monsters. This is considered a Strenuous activity. If the result of the roll is a 1, the number of monsters outside decreases by 1. Otherwise nothing happens.

Whenever the number of Monsters changes, if there are more Monsters than the number of non-Lost Students, then all Students lose Sanity equal to the number of Monsters.

Create a new row in the GNDT entitled Monsters. Set it’s Thirst column to 0.

Add the following to the list of Strenous activities:

* Making a comment of “Fight DICEX”.

Another problem with Institutionalize…

In rule 2.1.2 replace the first sentence with

Occasionally, a student may make a GNDT comment of “Institutionalize XXXX: DICE10”, where XXXX is the name of an insane student, provided that student has not been named in a currently unresolved Institutionalize comment.

This should prevent any issues like what happened today. (Thrawn already had a pending institutionalize before Chronos posted one)

In the same rule, change:

To:

If an institutionalized Student attempts to Relax and eir Sanity is not reduced in consequence of the attempt, that Student is no longer institutionalized.

Proposal: They’re coming to take me away

2-7. Can’t be enacted w/o CoV.—Chronos

Adminned at 08 Dec 2006 09:13:50 UTC

Add a new Rule to the Ruleset.  Call it “Alien Abduction” and give it the following text:

There is a group of Aliens residing in the Moon’s Terrible core.  The Aliens are using materiel from this Dynasty as a reality TV show.  However, if at any time the number of Students on the Lost List is the same as it was a week ago, the Aliens get impatient, and take action to increase the drama and excitement; at this point, any Student may comment “Aliens: DICEN” where N is the number of non-Lost Students.  The Nth non-Lost Student on the List of Active Students has eir name added to the Lost List.

A little more help

When I enacted the proposal that made Thrawn an Admin, I didn’t realize I needed to change his member group as well. When Thrawn contacted me and I attempted to do so(by going to Admin and then editing member groups) it wouldn’t let me alter member groups(it said I needed to be a super admin).

So yeah, Thrawn doesn’t have his Admin powers yet. So can someone who has the powers to actually give Thrawn Admin powers do so?

Proposal: A Tome No One Ever Sees

8-0. Timed Out.—Chronos

Adminned at 07 Dec 2006 07:55:19 UTC

Gods of Darkness, hear my call!

Add the following tome to the list under the subrule “Tomes”:

Tome of Loss (X copies, where X is the number of students on the Lost List)
Every student on the Lost List that does not have one gains a copy of this Tome. Every student not on the Lost List that has this tome has it removed from eir inventory. For the purposes of Nyarlothotep’s victory condition, this Tome does not exist.

Rebirth
* Circumstances: Every planet is in the same sign; the caster of this spell is Lost.
* Consequences: The caster of this spell has eir name removed from the Lost List, and is exempt from any conditions that would make em lost for one hour. The student then makes a post to the blog announcing eir return to earth. If after one hour the student would become Lost in any way, the student has eir name added to the Lost List.
Dark Gathering
* Circumstances: This spell has not been cast by any student in the past 48 hours; the caster of this spell is Lost.
* Consequences: The caster of this spell has eir Sanity increased by one, and eir Thirst increased by two.
Return to Innocence
* Circumstances: The caster of this spell has a Mythos greater than zero, and is Lost.
* Consequences: The caster of this spell has eir Mythos decreased by one, and eir Sanity increased by two.

Proposal: Not an almost Similar Proposal

6-0. Timed Out. Congrats, Saki, you’re now an Admin. I’ll send you the Admin’s password to the GNDT via EE message.

Adminned at 07 Dec 2006 07:49:46 UTC

While two active admins are certainly better than zero, more guarantees that one will look at least once a day. There wasn’t any way to say this particularly better either.

If at least half of the Admins for vote on this proposal vote FOR it and this proposal passes, then Saki is made an Admin.
If this proposal still passes, but fewer than half of the Admins who vote on it vote FOR it, then nothing happens.

Proposal: More Experiments 1.1

6-0. Timed out.—Chronos

Adminned at 07 Dec 2006 07:43:50 UTC

I get a little edgy about some of the material I write late at night, which is why I self-killed this the first time. This one in particular I had to reread three times, and then wasn’t quite sure if it was readable. Next time I won’t be so impulsive.

Add the following text to the rule “Scientific Experiments”:

This action may only be taken if the student has performed the experiment “Reservoir Water” within the last 24 hours.

When a student takes a drink water from the local water supply, e may also attempt to purify the water by posting a comment of “Purify: DICE20” to the GNDT with the following results:
* If the result is 12 or less, the experiment was successful and eir sanity remains the same instead of decreasing by one.
* If the result is 13-19, the experiment has failed and eir sanity is reduced by 2 instead of 1.
* If the result is 20, the purifying equipment has exploded! Eir sanity is reduced by 5 and eir thirst remains the same.

Also, add the phrase “Reservoir Water” to the top of rule 2.9.

Also also, replace all instances of expiraments in the ruleset with experiments.

A little help?

Im still discovering my new found powers. How do I turn a proposal from proposal to passed/failed? I can add an Admin comment, but can’t figgure that part out.

Thanks

Proposal: Fixing Great Old Ones

Timed out. Passed 5-0. Enacted by Clucky.

Adminned at 06 Dec 2006 12:27:42 UTC

I strongly dislike how one can change the Great Old One they are serving for free. I also dislike the idea of making it “often” or some other time related activity, because it reduces potential strategy. Thus I present the following possible fix:

Add the following to the end of Rule 2.12 but before Rule 2.12.1

If a student whishes to change the Great Old One they are currently serving, they must make a comment to the GNDT of DICEN DICEM where N is eir current mythos and M is the mythos of the Great Old One they are serving. If the result of the DICEN check is greater than the DICEM check, the student escapes free of harm. If the result of the DICEN check is less than or equal to the result of the DICEM check, the student must following “Leaving” instructions of the Great Old One they are currently serving. Either way, the student’s Great Old One is set to “-“ and e may change it to any other Great Old One free of harm.
If a student no longer fits the requirements to serve a Great Old One, then they are free to escape without the DICE check. If, however, a student no longer fits the requirements to serve a Great Old One and yet fails to make eir escape within twenty four hours, any other student may perform the dice check for em, and enforce the penalty if the deck check fails.

Add the following to the end of Rule 2.12.2

Leaving: Any student who wishes to escape the grasp of Cthulhu and fails the dice check gains X thirst where X is the result of the DICEM roll minus the result of the DICEN roll.
Mythos: 10

Add the following to the end of Rule 2.12.3

Leaving: Any student who wishes to escape the grasp of Nyarlothotep and fails the dice check must discard one tome of eir choice. If e does not currently possess a Tome, e must have eir mythos reset to ten(provided it is at least ten), and e loses X sanity where X is the result of the DICEM roll minus the result of the DICEN roll.
Mythos: 20

Add the following to the end of Rule 2.12.4

Leaving: Any student who wishes to escape the grasp of Azathoth and fails the dice check must roll a second DICE2. If the result of this dice check is a one, e stills escape free of harm. If the result of the dice check is a two, e is captured by Azathoth and has eir sanity reset to -60.
Mythos: 15

Proposal: Two more tomes

Timed out. Passes 5-2. Enacted by Clucky

Adminned at 06 Dec 2006 08:27:57 UTC

Add the following Tomes to the list in Rule 2.7.1:

The Path of the Lost One (2 copies)
This tome cannot be Filched.
Posess
Circumstances:This spell may be cast often if there exists a non-Lost Student, and the Student casting this is Lost, has a Mythos greater than 4 and a Sanity greater than -100
Consequences:The Student casting this makes a comment in the GNDT saying “Posess XXX DICE5”, where XXX is the name of a non-Lost Student (the Victim).  If the result of the DICE roll is a 5, the caster loses 40 Sanity, and has eir name removed from the Lost List, and the Victim has eir name added to the Lost List.  Otherwise, the caster loses 20 sanity and half eir Mythos (round final Mythos down) and the Victim loses 5 Sanity and gains Mythos equal to the amount the Caster lost.
Memory Thief
Circumstances: This spell may be cast often if the Student casting it is Lost and has a Sanity greater than -100.
Consequences:  The Student casting this gains 1 Mythos and loses 5 Sanity.  Another Student loses 1 Mythos and 2 Sanity.
Tormented Spirit
Circumstances: This spell may be cast at any time if the Student casting it has a Sanity between -100 and -150.
Consequences: The Student casting this spell loses 5 Sanity.  A Student of eir choice loses 2 Sanity.  All Students carrying a tome with a title containing “Soul Magic” lose 1 Sanity.

Book of Fire(2 copies)
Fireball
Circumstances:The Student casting this spell has not taken any action to decrease eir Thirst in the last 96 hours(4 days).
Consequences:The caster’s Thirst is increased by 15, and e may not take any action to decrease eir Thirst in the next 96 hours.  E choses a Tome and a Student.  That Student loses eir copy of that tome, if e has one.
Sunstroke
Circumstances:The Student casting this spell has not taken any action to decrease eir Thirst in the last 96 hours(4 days).
Consequences:The caster’s Thirst is increased by 3, and e may not take any action to decrease eir Thirst in the next 96 hours.  Another Student’s Sanity is lowered by 3 and that Student’s Thirst is increased by 2.
Firestorm:
Circumstances:This spell may be cast if the Student casting this has a copy of the Book of Fire.
Consequences:The Student casting this spell gains 5 Thirst, loses eir copy of this Tome and may not take any actions to decrease eir Thirst for the rest of the Dynasty.  For each instance of a Tome copy in the GNDT,  e makes a comment “XX’s YY DICE2” where YY is the name of the Tome and XX is the name of the Student holding a copy.  If the result of the DICE roll is a 1, that Student loses eir copy of that Tome and the number of copies of that Tome in the Ruleset is permenantly reduced by 1, to a minimum of 0.
