HI!  I’d like to join!

I’m joining to broaden my horizons and learn what on earth Wakukee’s always talking about.

Proposal: Nicknames

Fails 2-6. - Qwazukee

Adminned at 02 Aug 2009 19:06:43 UTC

Create a new wiki page, “Nicknames”.
Create a new dynastic rule entitled “Groundhogs or Woodchucks?”:

Every idle and non-idle Bill Murray may have a nickname, tracked in the wiki document “Nicknames”. This takes precedence over rule 1.2. Any time a reference is made to a Bill Murray, that Bill Murray’s nickname may be used instead of the full name. Bill Murrays without a nickname may once modify the Nicknames page to include their new nickname. No other modifications may be made to this page, except in the following circumstance, or when specifically specified:
If a Bill Murray wishes to change his nickname, he may do so by creating a proposal to that effect. The admin who enacts that proposal must also update the Nicknames page accordingly.

Create a subrule to “Groundhogs or Woodchucks?” entitled “Groundhog conflicts”:

.
If any of the following conditions are violated, take the respective action:
1.  No Bill Murray may select a name that is the same as another Bill Murray’s nickname.
2. No Bill Murray may select a nickname that is the same as another Bill Murray’s name.
3. No Bill Murray may select a nickname that is the same as another Bill Murray’s nickname.

Actions:
1. The Bill Murray must submit a proposal to change their name within 48 hours.
2. The Bill Murray must submit a proposal to change their nickname within 48 hours.
3. The Bill Murray must submit a proposal to change their nickname within 48 hours.

If the above actions are not completed within the time limit required, any Bill Murray may create a proposal to the effect as the one the offending Bill Murray should have made.

Each player who votes on this proposal should include their desired nickname in their EVC.
The admin who enacts this proposal may update the Nicknames page, once, upon creation to include the nicknames of the Bill Murrays who voted on this proposal and selected a nickname in their EVC.

Because I agree that it is annoying to type names like Qwazukee or -I hate to admit it- yuri_dragon_17 repeatedly. However, some players, myself obviously included, do not want to change their name for some (possibly) symbolic or other reason.

If this works out, we could possibly upgrade it to a core rule.
Thanks to Darth Cliche for the inspiration.

Proposal: When time rolls back, Bill Murray remembers

Passes 9-0. - Qwazukee

Adminned at 02 Aug 2009 06:47:03 UTC

Create a new rule called, “Groundhogs Remember”:

There exists a wiki document called “Parallel Ruleset” which may not be modified except as specified by this rule. Whenever a Dynastic non-Groundhog rule becomes repealed due to the effect of the rule “Phil the Groundhog’s dictum”, the title and text of that rule shall be appended to the Parallel Ruleset and becomes a Memento.

To “Flashback X” means to take a Memento with a title of “X” (if it exists) from the Parallel Ruleset and appending it to the Dynastic Ruleset, preserving it’s title and text.

Kudos to SB for the idea.

Proposal: Limit on the Goodness

Passes 9-0. - Qwazukee

Adminned at 02 Aug 2009 06:45:03 UTC

Add the following to the end of Rule 2.4.1 Building the World from the Groundhog Up:

Neither of these actions may cause a Good Deed to have more than 20 Steps.

Because the line needs to be drawn somewhere.

Proposal: Underscores and numbers are bad

Vetoed as per the mysterious sign of DooM. - Qwazukee

Adminned at 31 Jul 2009 17:30:30 UTC

If yuri_dragon_17’s Effective Vote Comment on this proposal is AGAINST, this proposal does nothing.

Change yuri_dragon_17’s name to Yuri.

No need for undescores; you can use spaces here. No need for numbers either; there’s noone else named Yuri.

Proposal: Just Hog your Ground!

Passes 6-0, no rider. - Qwazukee

Adminned at 01 Aug 2009 17:28:35 UTC

In rule “Phil the Groundhog’s dictum”, change the following sentence:

Every Monday at 00:00:01 UTC, all Dynastic rules that don’t have “Groundhog” in their titles are immediately repealed.

So that it instead reads:

Every Monday at 00:00:01 UTC, each Dynastic non-Groundhog rule (or sub-rule) is immediately repealed. A rule (or sub-rule) is considered Groundhog if it has “Groundhog” in its title.

If each Bill Murray’s EVC contains the phrase “Groundhog is an expensive word”, create a sub-rule “Groundhog is an expensive word” to rule “Phil the Groundhog’s dictum”:

For the purposes of enacting a Proposal that would create a Groundhog rule when enacted (or rename an existing rule to make it a Groundhog rule), the Weatherteam is considered to be one fourth higher than normal (rounded down).

Proposal: Victory Condition

Passes 6-3, we should alter the number to 1 or 2 soon. - Qwazukee

Adminned at 01 Aug 2009 17:26:48 UTC

Add a new rule called “Groundhog Victory”:

If any Bill Murray has accomplished 999,999,999,999,999 Good Deeds, they have achieved victory.

The high number is to prevent premature victories.

Proposal: Some Deeds to Start with

Passes 7-0. - Qwazukee

Adminned at 01 Aug 2009 15:17:16 UTC

Create a subrule of Groundhog’s Paradise titled “Good Groundhog” with the following text:

As a weekly action, a Bill Murray (including the Phil) may Suggest a new Good Deed by making a Story Post with the words “Good Deed” in the title, then including a Name and 3 Steps in the body of the post. As a weekly action, the Phil may choose up to 2 of these Suggestions and add them to the wiki document “Good Deeds,” using the same Name and 3 Steps that were Suggested.

Add the following Good Deeds to the wiki page “Good Deeds:”

Name: Save the Whales
Step 1: Find the Whales
Step 2: Feed the Whales
Step 3: Release the Whales from Captivity

Name: Help the Gnomes
Step 1: Collect Underpants
Step 2: ?
Step 3: Profit

Name: Cure Anthony’s Madness
Step 1: Steal the Veto Icon
Step 2: Convince Anthony He’s a Fish
Step 3: Save the Rest of the World

Name: Eliminate Poverty
Step 1: Get Lots of Money
Step 2: Recruit Bono
Step 3: Go on a World Tour

Name: Remove Alex Trebek from Power
Step 1: Win on Jeopardy!
Step 2: Build a Catapult
Step 3: Hold a Seance

Theme Please

BTW Quaz, and others: we need a theme for the dynasty, don’t really like the beach one to stay. I would suggest using Mr. Resetti as our dynasty mascot:

Or not?

Proposal: You’re Grounded for good

Passes 9-0. - Qwazukee

Adminned at 31 Jul 2009 14:42:37 UTC

Create a new rule, “Weatherbane”:

Each Bill Muray has a statistic called “Grounded”, whose value may either be “Yes” or “No”, and is initially No. For the Purposes of failing or enacting Proposals, the Weatherteam is calculated based on the number of Bill Murray’s whose Grounded is No. As a weekly action, a Bill Murray may change their Grounded from “No” to “Yes”. Each Bill Murray whose Grounded is Yes cannot create Proposals.

Set each Bill Murray’s Grounded to No.

Our self-resetting ruleset can allow us to create potentially new kinds of proposals, which declare one shot actions like this one. Basically, I’m testing the waters with this one…

Proposal: Exception to the Groundhog

Passes 9-0. - Qwazukee

Adminned at 31 Jul 2009 14:35:59 UTC

Add the following to the end of Phil the Groundhog’s dictum:

Exception: Whenever a Rule that has been in existence for less than 24 hours would be repealed, that rule is not repealed.

This prevents Admins from gaming the enactment rules to their advantage.

Proposal: Rain again… again… again

Passes 8-0, but only 4 tiny little rodents. - Qwazukee

Adminned at 31 Jul 2009 14:33:54 UTC

Create a new rule, “I don’t like to get wet”:

Every day that rain is not forecast, and is a rainy day, increase the Atmospheric Depression by 1, but only if the terms “forecast”, “rainy day”, and “Atmospheric Depression” exist.

If the majority of the votes on this proposal contain the phrase “tiny little rodents”, rename “I don’t like to get wet” to “Groundhogs don’t like to get wet”.

Thanks Qwaz.

Better?

Concept idea: “Memento” (or “Pulp Fiction” if you prefer)

Some proposals can cause a rule to be added to the ruleset with respect to a particular future week, rather than with respect to the week during which the rule is adminned.

Proposal: Glossary Improvement (with new Final Vote goodness).

Passes 9-0. - Qwazukee

Adminned at 31 Jul 2009 14:28:20 UTC

Add the following definition to the Glossary in Rule 3:
* A Bill Murray’s “Effective Vote Comment” with respect to a given Proposal (which may be abbreviated for all purposes as “EVC”) means that Bill Murray’s Comment to that Proposal (if any) that contains that Bill Murray’s Vote on the Proposal that is given effect in accordance with Rule 1.4 when the Proposal is Adminned.

Proposal: Grounded in logic

—Fails with 1 :for: and 4 :against: (timed out)—Wakukee

Adminned at 31 Jul 2009 14:13:24 UTC

If there exists a rule called “Phil the Groundhog’s dictum”, change its text to

Every Monday at 00:00:01 UTC, all Dynastic rules that don’t have “Groundhog” in their titles are immediately repealed unless they say otherwise.  These rules are called “Goundhog Rules”.

Allowing non-Groundhog Rules to override being repealed outright with some other kind of reset.

Proposal: Groundhog’s Paradise

Passes 8-1. - Qwazukee

Adminned at 30 Jul 2009 13:47:04 UTC

Create a new Dynastic Rule titled “Groundhog’s Paradise” with the following text:

There exists a wiki document named “Good Deeds.” This wiki document can only be altered in ways that are specified by the Ruleset. There are a number of Good Deeds listed on this document, each of which has a Name and a number of numbered Steps. Example Given:

Name: Save the Whales
Step 1: Find the Whales
Step 2: Feed the Whales
Step 3: Release the Whales from captivity

When a Bill Murray accomplishes the first numbered Step that they haven’t accomplished before in a particular Good Deed, they may add their name next to that Step in that Good Deed in the wiki document. When a Bill Murray has their name next to every single Step in a Good Deed that is at least 10 Steps long, they are said to have accomplished that Good Deed.

Create a subrule to Groundhog’s Paradise titled “Building the World from the Groundhog Up” with the following text:

As a daily action, a Bill Murray may add a Step to a Good Deed on the wiki document “Good Deeds.” As a daily action, the Phil may add a Step to up to 5 different Good Deeds on the wiki document “Good Deeds.”

My intention is that Bill Murrays will have to create a way to complete any number of Steps every week, so that those who manage to complete it the first way will get ahead of those that are, say, working on other Good Deeds. With the Rules for how to complete certain steps constantly changing, this should be highly interesting.

Proposal: I have seen this Gamestate before

Passes 8-1. - Qwazukee

Adminned at 30 Jul 2009 13:34:04 UTC

Create a new rule called, “Award Economics”:

Each Bill Murray has a non-negative integer number of Awards that is tracked in the GNDT, and which has a default value of 8 Awards.

If at any time, this rule would be repealed by a Groundhog rule, instead do the following:
* Replace all instances of the word “Awards” on this rule with the next word from this list: Icicles, Books, Ghosts, Baseballs, Golf-Carts, Cameras and Groundhogs.
* Remove the first word that appears on the previous list.
* Roll DICE20 and replace all instances of the number 8 on this rule with the number produced by the dice roll.
* Give 8 additional Awards to each Bill Murray.

Each Bill Murray obtains 8 Awards.

Trying out new technology for this dynasty…

Our Ruleset Is Hilarious

“For the purposes of Dynastic Rules which do not explicitly state otherwise, the Phil is not considered a Bill Murray.”

“Weatherteam is equal to half the number of Bill Murrays, rounded down, plus one. If a Rule or other Gamestate document refers to a Weatherteam of some subset of Bill Murrays (such as a Weatherteam of Bill Murrays who share a particular Gamestate attribute, but excluding all other Bill Murrays) then Weatherteam is equal to half the number of Bill Murrays who share that Gamestate attribute, rounded down, plus one.”

What other nomic has rules like these?

Proposal: Groundhog Rules

Adminned at 29 Jul 2009 22:02:41 UTC

Create a new Rule titled “Phil the Groundhog’s dictum” with the following text:

Every Monday at 00:00:01 UTC, all Dynastic rules that don’t have “Groundhog” in their titles are immediately repealed.

Rename the Rule “G-Man” to “Groundhog-Man.”

Ascension Address: You May See This Ascension Address Again

“Well, the Vacation sure was nice, but now it’s time to get back to the daily grind. As your meteorologist, I feel it is my duty to place your further attention in the ample paws of Punxsutawney Phil. Phil?”

“Thank you for those kind words, Mr. Murray, but I’m afraid you’ve done it this time. Squandering your days producing B-level films? Squelching your glory years participating in poorly designed reality tv shows? Punctuating your mortal existence by lazing around at the beach? No, Mr. Murray, that’s not going to cut it this time. Not on my watch. You are going to have to relive the same span of time over and over again until you make something of yourself. I don’t care if it takes 10 years, your life won’t progress any further until you do something worthwhile. Oh, and by the way, there’s going to be 6 more weeks of winter (or for you, an eternity). Have a nice days!”

Fail all pending Proposals. Repeal all Dynastic Rules except 2.1. Backup the GNDT logs and then clear them, if anyone knows how. Replace Tourist with Bill Murray. Replace Tour Guide with Phil. Replace Quorum with Weatherteam. Welcome to the Groundhog Day Dynasty!

Qwazukee has achieved victory in the current Dynasty,

Sort of gamed arthexis’ Proposal in order to get the most votes, but honestly, my stats were good enough that I would have won in a week or so anyway: I have a plane ticket, perfect tan any time I want (via sunscreen), etc.

I am open to suggestions for a good summer Dynasty idea. Groundhog, Pacman, and Assassination all work for me. I also have some ideas on my talk page ofthe wiki, like a Dodgeball Dynasty or a Battle School Dynasty based on Ender’s Game. Or any new ideas, I’m not particular.

Along with their valid votes to this Proposal, Tourists should include the name of a single Tourist, other than the Tour Guide. The Tourist who has their name included in this fashion on the most votes, achieves victory in the current dynasty. If there is not a single Tourist that meets this criteria, Wilson achieves victory in the current dynasty.

Call for Judgment: Compromise

Fails 1-6. - Qwazukee

Adminned at 26 Jul 2009 16:19:43 UTC

Repeal all dynastic rules. Begin a new dynasty. Replace “Tour Guide” with “Head Assassin” and “Tourist” with “Assassin”. Add a new dynastic rule, called “Joint Dynasty”:

During this Dynasty, called the First Joint Dynasty of Arthexis, Darth Cliche, Shem, Qwazukee, and Wakukee, the Assassins arthexis, Darth Cliche, Shem, Qwazukee, and Wakukee are all considered to be the Head Assassin.

A while back, me and Wak were plotting for a “First Joint Dynasty of Darth Cliche and Wakukee”; after all, this means the dynasty doesn’t collapse if the emperor goes idle (remember Amni’s last dynasty? Good times… good times…)

It’s the Assassination Dynasty because Wak has been planning one since Rod’s meta, and arth has an idea too. So it could all work out.

Also, I am not insane. The voices inside my head tell me that I am not insane.

Non Proposal: Possible Future Themes

Ok, as usual I have come up with three ideas for a dynasty. I’ve considered several factors into this ideas, the most important of them is to make them as interactive as possible. Because of that, all three are based on direct competition, and they are as quirky as you would expect for an idea that’s coming out of my head.

Pac-Man Dynasty:
We upload an image of a pac-man board and as a daily actions, players can move a single pac-man along the labyrinth. Each player keeps a score on the number pellets they consumed when they moved pac-man but loses them if they where the last to move pac-man if a ghost eats him. The emperor can move the gosts but can also
make (through some contest) a player become a ghost themselves, allowing them to move a specific ghost instead of pac-man. When there are no pellets left on the board, the player with the most pellets wins.

Assassination Dynasty:
The player is the Man with the Hat. Players draw a paper from the hat at the beginning of the dynasty, or whenever they join. The paper tells them the name of another player that they have to murder, but only they and the emperor know that name. when a player is killed, he becomes a weapon that can be claimed by other assasins, and may be returned to life if some number of kills is made with them. When a player kills someone, they get a point and may draw another name from the hat. After a Quorum number of kills a player wins.

Groundhog Dynasty:
After a certain number of days (possibly a week) all the gamestate of the dynasty is returned to a certain fixed baseline (a week before). Along the week there are events that are scheduled to happen at specific internals, but repeat again and again due to the time loop. To break the loop and win, a player needs to accomplish a specific goal during that week, but this event would cause other players to fail at their own goals, and thus they must compete. This dynasty would be fast paced.

Of course, I would suggest myself as emperor, but really I don’t mind who ends up with the title as long as I can interest you in my ideas.

Shem has achieved victory.

Reason: Shem has been the most active of all of us. Hes the closest to the scores set up to achieve victory anyway. He hasn’t tried to scam the game, witch tick off just about anyone anyway. As far as I’m concerned, Shem should have the right to make a DoV.

Lets look at the votes on the proposal that broke blognomic:

Call for Judgment: Metadynasties are horrible

Fails 1-6. - Qwazukee

Adminned at 26 Jul 2009 16:18:14 UTC

Darth Cliche has achieved victory.

This CFJ is legal for the same reason as ais’s.

I should win because I have been attempting to win since I first joined, six months ago. I should win because yuri was originally going to pass the mantle to me. I should win because this dynasty is coming to an end anyway, and metadynasties are horrible. I should win because I have not one, not two, but three ideas for a dynasty:

1. Solitaire Nomic Dynasty. All rules except 2.1 are called “ordinances”. 2.1 defines how you can edit ordinances in ways other than proposal, and also gives the victory condition: if there are no ordinances, the last player who edited an ordinance has achieved victory.
2. Biblical Dynasty. My title is Lord, and the players are Scripturewriters. The Scripturewriters must write about recent game events in a form that makes it sound like the Bible.
3. Calvin & Hobbes Dynasty. Self-explanatory, I think, but for those who haven’t heard of it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calvin_and_Hobbes - we’ll have rules for calvinball at the very least.

I’ll let you vote among these three ideas.

Call for Judgment: Anything else would be boringer

In rule 1.8 “Dynasties”, Replace

Each Dynasty is headed by a single Tourist, known as the Tour Guide, and is named according to the number of Dynasties he has headed (eg. “The First Dynasty of Myke”).

with

Each Dynasty is headed by at most one Tourist, known as the Tour Guide if there is one, and is named according to the number of Dynasties he has headed (eg. “The First Dynasty of Myke”). If a Dynasty is not headed by anyone (i.e. there is no Tour Guide), it is known as a metadynasty, and named according to the number of metadynasties that have existed (e.g. “The Third Metadynasty”).

Repeal all dynastic rules. Rename Tourist to Player and Tour Guide to Emperor.

Start a new Dynasty with no Tour Guide.

The consensus seems to be that this dynasty has become boring; with no obvious way to stop the boringness, ending it via CFJ seems to be the only nonboring action available. (Not a proposal, because I’m concerned that dynastic rules may make it unclear as to whether a proposal worked to end it or not; but a CFJ can do anything.) Although there isn’t an obvious disagreement, I feel that this aspect of the game needs urgent attention, and the CFJ is legal for that reason.

Note that this CFJ can be closed after 2 days, because there is a Hiatus currently.

Have to go… sorry.

I have to leave in just a few seconds, but I notice that both Rodlen and comex should be idle. Can someone take care of this for me? Thanks, I’ll be at the beach.

Quick fix the game!

Per rule 1.2 I am still an admin and so can follow rule 1.1 and correct the “obvious typo” which states boring actions cannot be taken. (Clearly you guys mean can) be taken or else the game would be broken. As I am not active, rule 1.9 does not apply to me so I can do this in haitus. Also even though fixing that obvious typo was very boring, the rule doesn’t apply to me because I’m not active.

Feel free to CfJ the fact that cannot wasn’t an obvious typo, but I strongly suggest that you don’t. Breaking blognomic makes me sad. =(

Proposal: How to win friends and influence people

Passes 7-0—arth

Adminned at 23 Jul 2009 07:34:54 UTC

Add a new dynastic rule, called “Giving gifts”, with the following text:

As a daily action, if a Tourist (the Giver) has three or more Shine Sprites, he may “Give a Gift” to another Tourist or The Princess (the Receiver).  To do this, the Giver subtracts three Shine Sprites from his own total and adds three Shine Sprites to the Receiver’s total.  The Giver and Receiver then become friends, and the Giver may once choose an integer from 1 to 3, and carry out the instructions next to that number in the Gift Table once.

Gift Table:

1. Have a chat about the island: if the Receiver’s Tourism is higher than the Giver’s Tourism, the Giver rolls DICEX in the GNDT, where X is the difference between the two Tourism figures, and adds the Result to his Tourism.
2. Borrow some money: the Giver rolls DICEX in the GNDT, where X is the Receiver’s Money (rounded down to an integer), subtracts the Result from the Receiver’s Money and adds it to the Giver’s Money.
3. Unload: The Giver adds his own Stress to the Receiver’s Stress.  The Giver then reduces his own Stress to zero.

You’re trying to give me money in return for a present I just gave you?  Oh, if you insist…

Alter the Beach Combing Table in the Rule “Beach Combing” so that it reads:

1-2: The Tourist finds a buried and angry crab. Increase their stress by 2.

3-4: The Tourist doesn’t find anything.

5-6: The Tourist is able to enjoy the sun. Increase their tan by 2.

7-8: The Tourist finds some loose change. Roll DICE40 and add the result to their money.

9-10: The Tourist finds a new wallet. Increase their money by 100; or, at the Tourist’s option, they may return the wallet to its owner and increase their Tourism by 3 (but may not increase their money).

Because Beach Combing does very little now.

Story Post: Talking to Wilson

Wilson and I have a nice discussion of the Tour de France. Wilson is an ardent Contador supporter, but I am pulling for Armstrong to dethrone him as leader of Astana. The discussion gets a bit heated, until we conclude that Kloden is as likely to win as anyone else on the team. Then we both agree heartily that we hope never to be in a sprint with Mark Cavendish.

Proposal: I want to help!

Self-killed -Darth

Adminned at 19 Jul 2009 13:27:43 UTC

Each tourist who voted FOR on the post may then increase their money by DICE50

Proposal: ... and money

Add a new rule, called “Work”, with the following text:

As a weekly action, a Tourist may Work For The Locals. To Work For The Locals, a Tourist makes a Story Post detailing their work. Within a period of 72 hours after the post was made, each Tourist may vote for it once, by posting a comment to it containing the FOR icon. After the period ends, the Tourist who made the post may increase their Money be DICE100 for each legal FOR icon in the comments of the post.

Proposal: Sleep with the Mermaids

Fails 3-6. - Qwazukee

Adminned at 16 Jul 2009 22:28:02 UTC

Create a new rule, “Good Memories”:

As a weekly action, a Tourist (known as a Sociopath) who is on a Boat may attempt to drown another Tourist (known as the Victim) who is on a Boat as well. To do it, the Sociopath Tourist rolls DICEX, where X is the number of Shine Sprites e owns, multiplied by the Money e has. If the result of the roll is equal to or greater than 100, the Victim is drowned. The drowning causes the Victim to lose enough oxygen to receive a severe amount of trauma that wipes off the happy memories of their vacation prior to the drowning, resulting in a loss of Tourism points equal to their Stress at the Time of the drowning.

After the Sociopath Tourist performs this action, all Shine Sprites owned by that Tourist are transfered to Wilson.

Girl: Yeah, well, I’m really sorry about what happened the other night…
Boy: Uh, what happened the other night?
Girl: Ah! It worked! Well, never mind then.
Boy: What?!

Make Darth Cliche an Admin.

Add a new rule, called “Work”, with the following text:

As a weekly action, a Tourist may Work For The Locals. To Work For The Locals, a Tourist makes a Story Post detailing their work. The only reason this makes me an admin is because “make yourself an admin” proposals are the only ones that can be made by Idle Tourists. I’, already an admin anyway.

You should vote FOR work posts which you think have good flavor.

Proposal: Broadening the Princess’s horizons

9-0
yuri_dragon_17 enacts yet another proposal. thanks for all your help ;)

Adminned at 13 Jul 2009 15:24:46 UTC

In rule 2.4.1 She is in another castle, change the text:

Whenever a Tourist “Gets on a Boat”, “Takes a tour of the Island” or “Chooses to Tan”, they may opt to “Take the Princess with them” as well.

to:

Whenever a Tourist “Gets on a Boat”, “Takes a tour of the Island”, “Chooses to Tan”, “Beach Combs” or “Attends a Caribbean dance and dinner”, they may opt to “Take the Princess with them” as well.

We should remember to adjust this rule in the proposal itself each time we add an action.

Proposal: The same thing we do every vacation

Fails 1-10 yuri_dragon_17

Adminned at 13 Jul 2009 15:21:07 UTC

Create a new sub-rule “Of Course” under rule “Fed-ex Delivers”:

As a weekly action, Wilson may attempt to take over the world. To so so, Wilson must make a Proposal that, if enacted, would cause Wilson to achieve victory. Each Tourist that votes on that Proposal increases their Stress by DICE5 minus 2 at the time of their voting. If a Tourist attempts to drown Wilson before the Proposal gets failed or enacted, Wilson automatically votes AGAINST that proposal.

Only the Tourist with the highest amount of Stress (or tied for the highest amount) can perform this action (attempting to take over the world) on behalf of Wilson.

Proposal: Trading Tickets

Fails 2-5 yuri_dragon_17

Adminned at 13 Jul 2009 15:17:55 UTC

If the proposal “Plane Tickets” failed, this proposal does nothing. Append the following sentences to the end of subrule “Plane Tickets”:

Any tourist may give any other tourist their Plane Ticket by changing their own Plane Ticket to No, and changing the recipient’s Plane Ticket to Yes. This action may only be taken if the Tourist doing the giving has their Plane Ticket set to Yes and the recipient’s plane ticket is No.

Proposal: Plane Ticket

yuri_dragon_17

Change the rule “Homeward Bound” to read:

A tourist that has a Perfect Tan, has Seen the Sights, has a Plane Ticket, and is Stress Free, is considered to be finished with their vacation and has achieved victory.

Add a subrule to “Homeward Bound” entitled “Plane Ticket”:

There exists a value, “Plane Ticket”. This is tracked in the GNDT, and it’s legal values are “Yes” and “No”. Any tourist with at least $500 can purchase a Plane Ticket at any time. To purchase the ticket, the Tourist decreases their money by 500 and changes their GNDT Plane Ticket to “Yes”. A tourist may not purchase a Plane Ticket if their Plane Ticket value is already “Yes”.

Sorry guys, I didn’t want to spoil your vacation earlier on, but I didn’t buy tickets home…

Proposal: Dance Baby Dance Part 2

Veto of a S/K - yuri_dragon_17

Adminned at 10 Jul 2009 07:18:09 UTC

If the Proposal titled “Dance Baby Dance” failed, this Proposal does nothing.

Amend the text of the rule “Dance the Night Away” to read as follows:

As a weekly action, any Tourist may attend a Caribbean dance and dinner. The tourist attending shall roll DICE4 in the GNDT with a comment of “Dancing”. Match the number that is received in the GDNT DICE roll to the number in the table below:

1 - The Tourist sprains their ankle. Increase the Tourist’s stress by 2, and reduce their tourism by 1, as they cannot tour the island.

2 - The Tourist meets a local, who offers to give the Tourist a walk around the island. The Tourist’s tourism is increased by 2, and their money is reduced by $10.

3 - The Tourist meets a local, who shows the Tourist a special tanning spot. Increase the Tourist’s Tan by 2, and their money by $5.

4 - The Tourist passes out drunk from Caribbean rum. Increase the Tourist’s stress by 2, and reduce their money by $5. The money is removed to pay for the Tourist’s drinks.

Pretty sure I got it right this time…

Proposal: Nice Boat with 100% more Euphemism

Passes 8-1 yuri_dragon_17

Adminned at 10 Jul 2009 08:00:14 UTC

Create a new sub-rule, “Nice Boat” under rule, “I’m on a Boat”:

As a daily action, if and only if The Princess has a Stress equal to or greater than 10, The Princess may relieve her stress by gently poking a Tourist. To do so, first the Princess may get off the Boat if she is riding it (but this is optional, not mandatory) by setting her Boat statistic to No. Then, the Princess rolls DICEX in the GNDT, where X is the number of other Tourists (known as the possible victims) that have the same Boat value as her. The Princess then proceeds to gently poke the Tourist whose position in the GNDT, amongst possible victims, matches the result of the roll.

For example, if the Princess rolls a 3, the third Tourist (other than herself) in GNDT order, from those which have a Boat value equal to her own, gets gently poked.

When a Tourist gets gently poked by the Princess, e has to invite the Princess to eat a nice dinner in a remote exotic location to avoid being poked in a less gentle manner. The Princess reduces her Stress by 1 for each $10 the gently poked Tourist has, and then that Tourist spends $10 for each Stress point the Princess lost this way. Afterwards, any Stress remaining on the Princess gets transfered to the gently poked Tourist. Finally, that Tourist increases their Tourism by 1 for each $30 spent this way, thanks to visiting a really nice exotic location for dinner.

Any Tourist that can perform this action on behalf of the Princess (and also make any of the required choices associated with the action they perform on her behalf), but each Tourist may not do so more than once each week.

What’s that knife you brought with you for? Ahh! Slicing some strawberry cake for dessert, I see… how nice of you.

Proposal: Seasickness

Fails 1-8 yuri_dragon_17
(Anti-quorumed)

Adminned at 10 Jul 2009 07:58:32 UTC

Add the following to the end of the rule “I’m on a Boat”:

Whenever a tourist chooses to get on a boat, he must roll a DICE10. On a result of 1, he gets seasickness and loses 5 points of tan, to a minimum of 0 you look pretty green… and gains two points of stress. He does not gain any other benifits from getting on a boat.

Proposal: Nice Boat

S/K yuri_dragon_17

Adminned at 10 Jul 2009 07:55:50 UTC

Create a new sub-rule, “Nice Boat” under rule, “I’m on a Boat”:

As a daily action, if The Princess has a Stress equal to or greater than 10, The Princess may relieve her stress by stabbing a Tourist with a butcher knife. The Princess then proceeds to stab the Tourist whose position in the GNDT, amongst possible victims, matches the result of the roll.

For example, if the Princess rolls a 3, the third Tourist (other than herself) in GNDT order, from those which have a Boat value equal to her own, gets stabbed.

When a Tourist gets stabbed, all the Stress on the Princess is transferred to the stabbed Tourist. Then, all the Money the stabbed Tourist has gets transferred to The Princess. Finally, the stabbed Tourist increases their Tourism by 1, as they will probably wake up in some unknown ditch the next day.

Any Tourist that can perform this action on behalf of the Princess (and also make any of the required choices associated with the action they perform on her behalf).

Sorry, I need some more time to think about our relationship…

Proposal: Clearify victory conditions

Passes 8-2 yuri_dragon_17

Adminned at 10 Jul 2009 07:52:35 UTC

I don’t like that the victory conditions are scattered, even if it is only across two rules.

This proposal adds a new rule:

2.7.3 Stress Free

A Tourist is considered to be “Stress Free” when they have a Stress score of 0.

This proposal changes the number of the rule 2.7.3 Non-Tourist Characters with 2.4.7 Non-Tourist Characters.

This proposal deletes the last sentence of rule 2.8:

As long as a Tourist’s Stress is exactly zero, that Tourist is considered to be Stress Free.

as it would be covered in 2.7 Homeward Bound.

So much changes!  But yet stays exactly the same.

I, Euler, wish to join this wonderful Caribbean trip as a tourist.

1 - The Tourist sprains their ankle. Increase the Tourist’s stress by 2, and reduce their tourism by 1, as they cannot tour the island.

2 - The Tourist meets a local, who offers to give the Tourist a walk around the island. The Tourist’s tourism is increased by 2.

Argh, I keep doing that…

Please fix this, before it’s too late

Replace

No action may be taken which

with

No action defined by a dynastic rule may be taken which

in the first Glossary bullet point in which it appears.

Needed to prevent people with some control over cause and effect preventing other people voting on CFJs. This is trivial to do with “could” and an appropriate dynastic rule; I’m worried that it could happen with “would” too, although it’s harder. Restricting this massive loophole to core rules should at least reduce the chance that it can be exploited.

Y’ know what, I don’t care anymore

Blognomic for me as turned into making sure Qwaz and Wak don’t win because I’d sooner trust Sarah Palin when with an emperor position than either one of them. They don’t listen to reason, have no respect for tradition and the older players hear, and are basically your standard me-focused brats that inhabit much of the internet and, fortunately up until this point, hadn’t infiltrated blognomic yet.

With a little luck and some help, I might be able to end this dynasty tonight but that isn’t fair to Yuri—he hasn’t done anything wrong and scheming to end his dynasty early isn’t very nice. (Protip: plug the loophole where someone can make a proposal, and then vote :against:  to get +3 tourism. Repeat three times and you’re more than half way to your tourism limit. Your guys call if you choose to act on it before it gets plugged…). It also just isn’t fun. Maybe if it was later in the dynasty, but this dynasty has barely gotten started and I can’t really enjoy the dynasty if I’m worried about making sure I win as fast as possible to prevent Qwaz from pulling anything off.

But yeah, as there is nothing in the rules to make them go away (despite having heard from several other players who second my beliefs even though I’m the only one vocal about it) and Blognomic is no longer fun with them here I’m going to idle for a couple of months again. I mean, what is the point of keeping them from destroying Blognomic if doing that is a constant process?  When I come back hopefully they’ll either have grown up and not completely ruined Blognomic in the process, have quietly gone away/finally done something ban worthy, or Blognomic will be in pieces I’ll have found memories of the good times.

Speaking of good times—I like to think back to a Blognomic where themes were a rough guideline of where the dynasty should go but the emperor wasn’t too uptight about what direction it should go. To a Blognomic where everyone got along and there wasn’t any DDA scheming for victory or non-DDA combating the DDA’s scheming with scheming of their own. Thats not to say there wasn’t scheming, but everyone got along and so the scheming happened with different sets of people each time. Maybe I’ve just become old and jaded and stuff was always better in the past—but the fact remains that I used to have fun with Blognomic and don’t anymore and so I don’t see why I should stay around and keep you guys from destroying it.

Hmmm

We ended up with the wrong number of Active Tourists, somehow; we have 14 at the moment, not 15.

Proposal: Pass Go. Collect $200

Passes 9-0, yuri_dragon_17

Adminned at 07 Jul 2009 23:20:18 UTC

Create a new rule called, “Caribbean Scavenger Hunt”:

Tourists (other GNDT entities are considered Tourists for the purpose of this rule, and any Tourist may make the appropriate gamestate changes for them) have a statistic called “Progress” which is tracked in the GNDT and can only have non-negative integer values. New Tourists and unidling Tourists shall set their progress to “0” at the time they join or unidle. As a daily action, if a Tourist has “made some progress” during the past 24 hours, they may roll 2DICE6 and add the result to their Progress Statistic.

Every time a Tourist has a Progress equal to or greater than 44, that Tourist decreases their Progress by 44, then their Money is increased by $200, once.

The following list contains the conditions that determine if a Tourist is making progress:

* Whenever one or more Shine Sprites are transferred from the Tour Guide to a Tourist, that Tourist has made some progress.
* Whenever a Tourists successfully takes the Princess with them, the Tourist and the Princess have made some progress.
* Whenever a Proposal that creates a rule or sub-rule is enacted, the author of that Proposal has made some progress.

Proposal: Cheers!

Fails 2-4—yuri_dragon_17

Adminned at 07 Jul 2009 23:17:40 UTC

Create a new rule called, “Call the Shots”:

As a weekly action, a Tourist (known as the Host) may buy drinks for any number of Tourists and other GNDT tracked entities (such as Wilson or the Princess). To do so, the Host makes a comment in the GNDT listing the Tourists and other entities that are getting drinks. For each listed Tourist or entity, the Host must spend $10.00 or the action cannot be taken at all. Then, the Host reduces the Stress of all the listed Tourists an Entities by 1. During a period of 24 hours after buying drinks, those Tourists and entities listed may not vote AGAINST Proposals made by the Host.

Proposal: Sunburn

Adminned at 07 Jul 2009 01:03:40 UTC

Create a subrule to “Tanning”, entitled “Sunburn”:

Any Tourist with a Tan of 16 or greater is Sunburned. Whenever a Tourist takes any action that raises the Tan level of a Sunburned Tourist by any number, the Tourist making the change(s) must also increase the Stress of the Sunburned Tourist by that same number.

Proposal: The Princess has given up baking

Adminned at 07 Jul 2009 01:02:04 UTC

Create a new subrule to the rule “Homeward Bound”, called “Non-Tourist Characters”, with the following text:

If The Princess or Wilson ever fulfills the above victory conditions, repeal all dynastic rules and start a new dynasty with no Tour Guide. This dynasty will be called “The Fourth Metadynasty”.

“Hey Wilson, you’re looking quite tanned.”

“You’re talking to a GOD DAMN VOLLEYBALL!”

Proposal: Sunscreen isn’t cheap

If a Tourist wears sunscreen, they reduce the number that they increase their Tan by, to a minimum of 1.

to:

If a Tourist wears sunscreen, they reduce the number that they increase their Tan by, to a minimum of 1. They also reduce their Money by $5.00

A Tourist is considered to have “Seen the Sights” when they have a Tourism score of 30 or higher

I was intending this to be the value required to win, but I let the other pass so that we could at least get the rules in.

Story Post: Exploring 1

Proposal: Too much Sunscreen is better than none at all.

Passes 9-0. - Qwazukee

Adminned at 07 Jul 2009 00:45:47 UTC

Create a subrule of Enjoyment called “Too Much of a Good Thing Is Not a Bad Thing” with the following text:

If an action would ever reduce a Tourist or Tour Guide’s statistic to a value that is less than 0, reduce that value to 0 instead.

Several actions might be construed as illegal if they reduce a statistic to a negative number (although the rules sometimes account for this, they do not always). For example, a Tourist who stays indoors with a Tan of 2 may have it reduced to 0; but a Tourist with a Tan of 1 may not have it reduced no matter how long they stay inside. This Proposal attempts to fix that.

Proposal: Problems Arising

Passes 6-2, for what it’s worth. - Qwazukee

Adminned at 07 Jul 2009 00:42:00 UTC

Change the Glossary text:

No action may be taken which could require setting a gamestate variable to an illegal value. (e.g. spending X of a numeric value that must be non-negative when the subtraction would result in a number which is negative).

so that it reads:

No action may be taken which would require setting a gamestate variable to an illegal value. (e.g. spending X of a numeric value that must be non-negative when the subtraction would result in a number which is negative).

One letter (w for c) can make a huge difference. For example:

“If a Tourist has not tanned within the last 7 days, any Tourist may decrease their Tan by 2.” I could not take this action, because it could be illegal (if I did it to someone with a Tan lower than 2, it would set their Tan to an illegal value). However, it works fine for anyone with Tan of 2 or more. This is fixed by this Proposal.

Even if you don’t like this example, you can see how the current wording could cause problems.

Proposal: Cashing In

Failed 4-4—Rodlen

Adminned at 06 Jul 2009 18:48:08 UTC

A tourist with a shine sprite may, at any time, choose to spend a shine sprite. To do this, he removes one from his shine sprite total and adds it to the tour guide’s total. He then may either increase his tan value by one or increase his tourism value by one (he may only increase one of these values once for each shine sprite he spends).

These big yellow suns are not doing me much. Maybe a plummer might find them useful, but I find they are just taking up space.

As a weekly action, a tourist may choose to beach comb. To do this, they roll DICE10 in the GNDT with a comment of “beach combing”. They then apply the result to the “Beach Combing Table”.

Beach Combing Table:
1: The Tourist finds a buried and angry crab. Increase their stress by 1.
2-5: The Tourist doesn’t find anything.

8-9: The Tourist finds some loose change. Roll DICE4 and add the result to their money.
10: The Tourist finds an old wallet. Increase their money by 10

Awww come on honey, just one more spot. I’ve already found $3 in change and the sun is doing wonders on my tan. Now lets see…. OH OH!!! I think I found something big. It feels like a…. YEOW!!! GET IT OFF, GET IT OFF DARN IT!!!!!!!

The total number of shine sprites owned by all tourists and the tour guide must always be 120. No action can taken which causes the sum to be different from 120.

to

The total number of shine sprites owned by all tourists, the Princess, and the tour guide must always be 120. No action can taken which causes the sum to be different from 120, unless this rule is repealed at the same time.

Set the gamestate to what it would be if the proposal which created that rule had contained the corrected sentences, rather than the original sentences.

The Princess, although listed like a Tourist in the GNDT, is not a Tourist (per the ruleset). Therefore, an action that transfers sprites to the Princess, such as passing a proposal to that effect, cannot be taken because it would cause the sum to become unequal to 120. Therefore, some proposals didn’t pass despite being voted FOR, because the action of passing them would cause the sum to be different. The second change is because repealing the rule in question at the end of the dynasty would also cause the sum in question to be unequal to 120; therefore, the action of ascending and starting the next dynasty would also be impossible. People, please please be more careful about passing rules which make actions impossible. They have too much of a chance of affecting proposals, CFJs, etc.; at the very least, limit it to dynastic-rule-defined actions.

Proposal: Impressing Royalty

Create a new sub-rule, “She is in another castle” to rule “The Princess”:

Whenever a Tourist “Gets on a Boat”, “Takes a tour of the Island” or “Chooses to Tan”, they may opt to “Take the Princess with them” as well. This may only be performed if no other Tourist has successfully taken the Princess with them in the past 6 hours. That tourist makes a comment of “Taking the Princess” in the GNDT and a roll of DICE3.

On a 1, the Princess is nowhere to be found (and the action is not considered successful). On a 2 or 3 (which are considered successful), the Princess goes with the Tourist, and performs the same action that e performed (that Tourist adjusts the gamestate on her behalf per rule 2.4; if the Princess has to make a decision to complete that action, that Tourist also makes those decisions). On a 3, the Princess has a really great time and transfers 1 Shine Sprite she owns to that Tourist (this tourist performs the transfer on her behalf), but only if she has at least 1 Shine Sprites.

Transfer 2DICE10 Shine Sprites from the Tour Guide to The Princess.

I see a Princess in a faraway castle. I cross valleys and deserts, mountains and lakes in her search. I try to go and reach for her, but when I arrive, she is gone… When will I finally find her? When can I finally tell her…

In another castle, maybe? Maybe…

Proposal: My, you’re very pale

Passes 7-0. - Qwazukee

Adminned at 04 Jul 2009 23:07:54 UTC

Add a new rule entitled “Tanning”:

As a weekly action, but no more frequently than once every 24 hours, any Tourist may choose to Tan. To do this, they roll DICE5 in the GNDT with a comment of “Tanning” and add it to their Tan statistic.

Add a subrule entitled “Sunscreen” to “Tanning”:

If a Tourist wishes, he may choose to wear sunscreen by making a comment of “Tanning with sunscreen”, instead of the usual “tanning” comment. If a Tourist wears sunscreen, they reduce the number that they increase their Tan by, to a minimum of 1.

Add a subrule to “Tanning”, entitled “Staying indoors”:

If a Tourist has not tanned within the last 7 days, any Tourist may decrease their Tan by 2.

“What are you all staying inside for!? I spent a lot of money on this vacation, now, GET OUT!!”

Proposal: Looking around town

Create a new rule entitled “Exploring”:

As a weekly action, the Tour Guide may make a story post to the blog, titled “Exploring X”, where X is equal to the number of Exploring posts previously made by the Tour Guide, plus one. The body of the post shall state a theme. For a period of 120 hours after the Tour Guide has made the posts, Tourists may comment to the post, following the theme of the post. The comments should be as “flavourful” as possible. After the 120 hour period has elapsed, the Tour Guide may select what he believes to be the best comment, and increase the Tourism of the Tourist who authored that comment by 2.

The posts don’t have to be about exploring, i just couldn’t think of what to title them. Hopefully, these will add a good bit of flavour to the dynasty, and maybe some of the comments will inspire some rules.

Proposal: Reinstituting Metadynasties

Fails 1-6. - Qwazukee

Adminned at 04 Jul 2009 23:04:55 UTC

Create a subrule of the Core Rule “Dynasties” titled “Metadynasties” with the following text:

Some Dynasties (called Metadynasties) have no Writer and are named according to the number of Metadynasties of Blognomic (eg. First Metadynasty). Metadynasties may only be started by a successful Proposal, CfJ, or as allowed by another rule.

When a Metadynasty begins, the previous Dynasty ends and all Dynastic rules are repealed. The theme (and appropriate substitution of keywords) may be chosen by any method deemed necessary.

Because there is no Writer, DEFERENTIAL votes are counted as explicit votes of abstention and no one may VETO a Proposal.

The exact wording of the Metadynasty rule as it was the last time it was in use.

Proposal: Pocket money

Passes 8-0. - Qwazukee

Adminned at 04 Jul 2009 22:58:00 UTC

Create a new rule entitled “Money”:

There exists for each Tourist a statistic called “Money”. This is a number, tracked and displayed by the GNDT in $ to 2 decimal places (e.g. “$27.00”). The smallest individual unit of Money possible is $0.01, which cannot be split up any further. The default value for new and unidling Tourists is $50.00

Set each Tourist’s Money to $50.00

Dear Mum,
Having a wonderful time in the Caribbean. It’s even hotter than it was at home, even though it’s apparently winter here. All the people from that TV show are here, but I haven’t had the courage to talk to them yet. The only problem: remember the studio promised us $50 spending money? It turns out that in East Caribbean Dollars that’s not very much at all. One ice cream costs $5, and that’s without a flake. I’ve spent the last five days living on coconuts and dead crabs. Do you think you could get someone to send some food? Please.
Hope Grandma is well,
Lots of love,
Shem.

Proposal: What are we tourising?

Passes 9-0. - Qwazukee

If the Proposal titled “I’m on a Boat” failed, this Proposal does nothing.

Create a new rule called “The Island” with the text:

Any Tourist who Boat Statistic is set to No may, as a weekly action attempt to take a tour of the island.  To do this they roll 1DICE20.  If the result is higher than their current tourism then their tourism is increased by 1, if the result is lower than their tourism, then the Tourist has seen no new aspects of the island and their stress is increased by 1.

Proposal: I’m on a Boat

Passes 9-0. - Qwazukee

Adminned at 02 Jul 2009 21:45:09 UTC

Add the following to the beginning of Enjoyment:

All statistics have a default value of 0 unless otherwise stated.

Add the following to the end of Enjoyment:

Boat. This represents whether the Tourist is on a Boat or not. The legal values are “Yes” meaning that the Tourist is on a Boat and “No” meaning that the Tourist is, sadly, on land. The default value is No.

Create a new Dynastic Rule titled “I’m on a Boat” with the following text:

As a weekly action, a Tourist may “Get on a Boat.” To do so, the Tourist changes their Boat statistic to Yes, increases their Tourism by 2, and increases their Tan and Stress by 1. A Tourist may depart from the Boat at any time by changing their Boat statistic to No. If a Tourist departs from the Boat without having been on it continuously for the preceding 6 hours, that Tourist must decrease their Tan by 1 (as their tanning lotion washes off).

This Boat is real!

Neil goes Idle. 15 Tourists, Quorum is 8.
