Proposal: Holy Out

Passes 4-0. — Quirck

Rewrite the rule “The Holy Circle” (not affecting its subrules) so that it reads:

Each Baker may have a spot in the Holy Circle, tracked in the GNDT in a column called “Position”. A Baker is said to be in the Holy Circle if their Position is a positive integer. A Baker is said to be outside the Holy Circle if their Position is “Out”. Two Bakers in the Holy Circle cannot have the same Position.

If there is a positive integer N such that a) no Baker has Position N and b) some Baker has position N+1, that Baker’s position immediately becomes N. Whenever a Baker unidles or joins the dynasty for the first time their Position becomes the smallest positive integer which is not currently a Position held by another Baker, unless they are unidling and previously held the position of “Out”, in which case their position remains Out.

The Distance between two Bakers in the Holy Circle with Positions A and B, with B bigger than A, is equal to the minimum of B - A and A + T - B where T is the number of Bakers in the Holy Circle. (Distance is commutative, so if B is less than A it would be equal to the minimum of A - B and B + T - A). Two Bakers in the Holy Circle are Adjacent if the Distance between them is 1. The distance between a Baker and himself is zero.

In the rule “The Holy Dance”, replace “where N is the number of Bakers” with “where N is the number of Bakers in the Holy Circle”.

Rewrite the rule “Time Out” so it reads:

If a Baker’s Hits is ever greater than or equal to 15, the Baker’s Position becomes Out. If a Baker’s position is Out, they cannot target or be targeted as part of “The Holy War” or “The Holy Dance”.

If a Baker’s position is Out, they may, as a weekly action, remove five of their Hits. If as a result their Hits become less than 15, their Position is immediately set to the smallest positive integer which is not currently a Position held by another Baker.

If there is only one Baker who is in the Holy Circle, that Baker has achieved victory.

Is this ok?

for better than what is currently there.

I was noticing today that there is still the problem that as you can’t be hit while you’re out, there is nothing stopping someone from going out, stockpiling enough cream pies to destroy everyone still in the game, and then jumping back in at the last minute and claiming the win.

Ultimately, the issue is that its unadventagous to use your pies first unless you know you can use them to win; and so the game turns into “who can stockpile P*15 cream pies first” which is boring.

The obvious fix would be “once you’re out, you’re out”. Or maybe put a timer on how long you have to stay out so there is actually some advantage to putting someone out. This of course limits gameplay for the person that goes out, but might be necessary for overall dynasty health.

P*15 > 10.. How to stockpile enough to win without cooperating?

While someone is Out, those who are not out may actively hit each other, and if he doesn’t go In quickly enough, he just loses.

for I agree with Quirck.  If 10 cream pies is enough to beat everyone else in the game and you pull it off right, you probably deserve to win.  The numbers involved in the Out mechanic, when considering pie caps, seems balanced enough to me.

And there already is, to some degree, a timer on how long you have to stay out, since you can’t come back In more than once a week (essentially, the first can be a freebie but if you’re out again right away).  And since it takes a longer than a week to max out your Cream pies, the “weekly action” counter isn’t the limiting factor there.

If you really want to discourage coming right back In, it might be better to make the “coming In” action heal fewer than 5 hits.  That way it makes more sense to spend more time outside to put up defenses or heal.

And they seem big enough to me, at least now… Once Hits reach 10, they can’t decrease (at least while the only mechanic to reduce them is to come In). And Hits can never be more than 15. With 0-5 range instead of 10-15, 10P pies are saved, more than a week of careful baking and throwing… Just some thoughts about speeding up a bit :)

for  Do we want to restrict other actions while a Baker is out?

Just as an example, anyone who is out could still trade (or give) their pies to someone who isn’t out.

It’s an interesting effect, by the way: imagine that we all have more than 9 hits. New players then start at an advantage rather than usual disadvantage :)

ah I forgot about pie caps, that makes it a lot harder to gatling gun someone.

and also I proposed away to remove hits. I just mis-worded the proposal that included it =)

Good points Quirck and Spice: restricting trades from Outies would be bueno, and tuning that 15 down to 10 or 5 (maybe tuning it down to 5, and coming back In heals only 3 instead of 5?) would really light a fire under this dynasty.
