Proposal: Let’s Try This [Evil] Bit Again

Times out 8-4.
1(20/4)=5

Adminned at 19 Apr 2008 14:22:17 UTC

I need to learn to not be so hasty when I concoct an evil plan. *evil grimace*

If this proposal is enacted, all Henchmen who voted FOR it shall have eir GL increased by a sum equal to the reciprocol of the number of Henchmen who voted AGAINST the proposal divided by the total number of active playing Henchmen (if no Henchmen voted AGAINST, substitute the number of playing Henchmen for this value). All Henchmen who voted AGAINST this proposal shall have eir GL decreased by the same sum. The final sum shall be rounded up if it is not an integer.

The Henchman “Dustin” shall also have his GL increased by 2.

Comment: Let ‘f’ be the number of Henchmen who voted against the proposal. Let ‘h’ be the total number of Henchmen. The result which shall be increased or decreased shall be -> x = 1 / ( a / h ) if at least one person voted against, otherwise x = 1 / ( h / h ) = 1

Being intellectually out-of-shape in the math department sucks. :)

Basically if it passes, the people who voted for it score bigtime and the people who voted against get severely -PUNISHED-. The fewer the ‘against’ votes, the bigger the reward/punishment.

yeah that reciprocal is pointless, its just x=h/a you know :).  for and also the proposal is very ambiguous, if it weren’t for the commenty italics bit (which does nothing anyway) it would have 2 different interpretations. It could be (1/a)/h=(1/ah)  or 1/(a/h)=(h/a).

I don’t like rewards for voting for proposals, and my GL’s already 0, so this costs me nothing.

Jay: Change of Vote

Dustin: No, the previous vote doesn’t count. You could interpret it to count, but then spikebrennan’s GL is increased and decreased by the final sum, and so stays the same. Your vote as the author, by the way, is automatically assumed to be “for”. You don’t have to make it explicit.

Doesn’t the text describe “x=(1/a)/f ” (which can’t be higher than one) rather than the formula in your comment? Currently, (1/2)/21=.02 vs. 1/(2/21)=10.5

per spikebrennan i change my vote to against and then i change my vote again to for

dogfish:

that COV does nothing, “If a Henchman casts more than one Vote on a Proposal, only the most recent of those Votes is counted.” so your old ones aren’t counted when you work out all that maths, surely? And also the more against votes you have the smaller the bonus is anyway?

“Doesn’t the text describe “x=(1/a)/f “ (which can’t be higher than one) rather than the formula in your comment? Currently, (1/2)/21=.02 vs. 1/(2/21)=10.5 “

In my string of thought, if y the phrase would have had to have been:

“a sum equal to the reciprocol of the number of Henchmen who voted AGAINST the proposal, divided by the total number of active playing Henchmen”

The coma (or lack of it) changes the logical precedence. That’s how I parse it, anyhow.

However, I made a typo in the comment as you pointed out. In the commentary ‘f’ should have been ‘a’ or vice versa. It ought to have read “x=1/(a/h)”.

I just can’t keep the petty mistakes away, can I? :(

Dustin:
