I’ll take a look at actually reopening public wiki signups behind some kind of hoop-jumping captcha this week.

Note that I’m pretty sure there’s a spam firm going around getting a human to crack the CAPTCHAs, then sending in waves of bots behind that.

You can work around this by getting someone with shell-level access to the wiki to change the CAPTCHA every time spam turns up, but it’s annoying. (Also, in my administration of other wikis, I’ve discovered that there’s not much point in having any more than the one CAPTCHA question.)

I’m going to try having QuestyCaptcha ask for a password which is displayed on an ExpressionEngine page that only approved and logged-in players can see.
