Proposal: Story Post: What doesn’t kill you…

There is a massive explosion:
Every Survivor may with once within 72 hours of its passing roll DICE3 and DICEX, where X is 8. If the first rolled number is 1, they are hit with a small amount of shrapnel, but soon recover, and they add the second rolled number to their stamina. If the first number is 2, however, they are more seriously wounded, and the second is subtracted from their stamina. If the first number is a 3, they are not hit with shrapnel.

If the EVC of a survivor who votes FOR this proposal contains a single positive one digit integer, that survivor must increase X by that number when they roll.
None of these actions may cause the Survivor’s Stamina to change beyond its maximum value. If it would be changed to higher than the maximum value, it is instead changed to that value.

Why would being hit by shrapnel cause someone’s stamina to go up?

@Josh: “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger”. It’s a common North American saying.

@DC: It’s common everywhere, thanks to having been written by a prominent German in his autobiography, Ecce Homo. Alas, before the book was back from the printer, his mind had collapsed and he spent the last 11 years of his life a drooling, babbling idiot who couldn’t feed or bathe himself. Maybe it was syphilis, maybe it was drug use; but whatever it was - like many things, including being lacerated by shrapnel - it didn’t kill him and it didn’t make him stronger.

I’m voting for it! I’m just saying it doesn’t make any sense.

Many victims of injured limbs claim that when they recover, they are stronger with that limb than before.

Didn’t Nietszche go on to kill himself? In any case, the sentiment wasn’t that popular in the US until Kanye West sang about it. . . .

Kanye West’s a jackass.

@Josh: Alright; I had never known the origins of the phrase, and assumed it was North American because you didn’t know about it.

Also, I have no idea who Kanye West is. :) Not a music person.

You obviously have *some* idea.

Yes, but I only got that idea from this very conversation, so it doesn’t count.

@Qwaz: Nietzsche was actually devoured by a large predatory dinosaur at the tender age of fourteen, but who cares about that?
