Proposal: ... Too Quiet

Replace “At any time but not more than once every 48 hours” with:-

If no noise has been heard from the Crypt for at least 24 hours (noise is heard from the Crypt whenever a Power Action is taken or the Crypt is Entered)

Speeding things up, at least potentially, and removing the incentive to wait to build or devastate a room towards the end of the 48 hour cycle.

Is “Lair Action” defined? I’m not sure you could successfully claim “any action listened under the lair action rule is a lair action” but it only exists as a rule title

i also in general remain lukewarm about “timer keeps resetting every time anyone does something” mechanics.

I do worry about the application of “Eric is about to win, let’s keep the game infinitely stalled until we can cobble an opposition together”

This is somewhat vulnerable to people intentionally performing an action every 23 hours in order to prevent the timer ever resetting. (That specific scam was pulled off at Agora just last week – and although the scammers gained no benefit, they might have benefited in a slightly different gamestate – so it’s not like that sort of thing never happens.)

I guess the theoretical optimum would be for actions to bump the timer but by less and less each time, but that would be far too difficult to track.

Changed to Power Action to match the rule text rather than title.

Stalling isn’t great, but delaying actions until right before a deadline so that nobody has time react to them seems much worse, and is relevant already. (And I say that as a player in the same timezone as Josh, who has more scope for getting the jump on players who aren’t, and who won’t ever have to stay up late into the night to guard a critical Room.)

I’d rather see something imperfect in place now, when we’re jockeying for position, with a more nuanced take when we’re closer to Eric being about to win.

against I’m up for speeding up the tempo but I don’t really like the rolling reset action mechanic and I also think that speeding up the game while uptake of power actions seems to be pretty low feels counterproductive

Speeding up the Puissance supply when people aren’t spending Puissance, and slowing it back down when they are, sounds productive to me.

We’ll probably end up back around 48 hours when actions are being taken.
