Story Post: Trees

I have found trees! I am so happy! I thought I’d be stuck on endless plains forever! Computer insisted they were three different things, but I know I have found new terrain now. Trees!  Turba cirrum: turbulent circles. The long circular leaves twisting around each other. Its beautiful. Its entrancing…

Checking the hallucinogenics I’ve been carrying… yes. They are still there. the trees are real.

Story Post: Bone Scanner Deadly When applied to Onera accipitrum

The onery hawk plant? It likes to grab things. I made it out of there with my bone scanner, but it was close: it almost grabbed it away from me.

What? no! I’m not still hallucinating!

Story Post: Fumes of the Hairy Wing: Bone Scanner is Productive when applied to Tricha heliia

I used the bone scanner on the Tricha Hellia, looking on those weird low leaves, and .... where was I? computer, delete report. DELETE REPORT! I do not want that public!

Of course the first “productive” thing we find is a hallucinogenic substance.

Asleep in the hills

I won’t have enough time to play properly this Dynasty—can someone please idle me? Hoping to be back for the next one.

Story Post: And Now, for something completely different…

I have reached new terrain. Or so the computer tells me. I’m not sure how one distinguishes hills, savannah, and grassland, but the computer can, and it says this terrain is grassland. So much so that it named it the Heteru Grassland, or the different grassland. I still think its Savannah.

I’m enjoying the vegetation. There is this one plant with a weird sort of growth that looks like claws. The computer calls it Onera accipitrum, or the hawk’s burden, or burdened hawk, or maybe burdensome hawk. Maybe because it looks like a hawk’s talons grabbing something? Or because it looks like the talons of an ornery hawk?  maybe.

Story Post: Loopy Forest?

So I wander deeper into this forest but it feels like it almost loops back on itself, there is nowhere else but the forest.  Is this forest named “Trepi Forest” because it turns into itself?

CHANGE:

Spend X Stamina and pick a location that can be reached by traveling X+1 times from their current location,

TO:

Spend X Stamina and pick a location that can be reached by traveling X+1 times from their current location. Alternatively, if their current location is not part of a cycle of locations connected by links, spend 2 stamina and pick a location that can be reached by traveling 5 times from their current location

Making moderately sized links that bring trailing edges in cheaper. I hope this will give the resulting map a nice shape of connected loops.

In “Equipment”, replace “Once per sunrise” with “If they have not done so since the most recent Sunrise”.

Not sure that the rules support the idea that the period between two Sunrises is called a Sunrise, and there’s an alternate reading here that if there have been 4 Sunrises so far in the game, you can immediately perform the “once per Sunrise” action four times, once for each of those Sunrises.

In the atomic action in the rule Application, between the points that start “Prepare a list” and “Randomly select”, add:

Optionally, spend 1 additional Stamina to Apply Selectively, changing each instance of the second most common Effect (selecting from the most common Effects if there is a tie in first place, or selecting from the eligible options if there is a tie in second place) in the prepared list of Likely Effects to “Restorative” or “Productive” as wished

In the same rule change ‘If the Equipment’s effect on that Discovery is not Unknown, skip the next four steps’ to ‘If the Equipment’s effect on that Discovery is not Unknown, skip the next five steps, and also the last step, of this Atomic Action’,

Remove the Dwelling Craft Recipes and replace them with:-

* Structural Beam or Waterproof Sheet + Wrench = Shelter

Remove the Fireplace Craft Recipes and replace them with:-

* Long Fibers or Structural Beam + Rocket Fuel = Campfire
* Flammable Liquid + Oily Secretion = Rocket Fuel

Replace the term “Dwelling” with “Shelter” and “Fireplace” with “Campfire”, throughout the dynastic ruleset.

Add four Wrenches to the ISV Jenny Haniver.

Merging and altering some Infrastructure recipes (“Ingot + Magnetic Gloves” is out for Shelters as this seemed oddly similar to how you make Wire, and pure liquid blends don’t seem like good Campfires), adding a way to make Rocket Fuel, and renaming the structures to better fit the apparent outdoor campsite concept of Bases.

Also requisitioning some Wrenches for the mission, as we forgot to unload any when changing the Haniver into a Base.

Story Post: I turned into a forest

After wandering through the Qualifier Hills I eventually stumbled into the Interu Hills.  I was careful not to use my magnetic gloves on any of the plants around here so as to not cause more of a fuss for my fellow pathfinders.  I then noticed a clearing into a forest that no one else had found, which is where I will be resting for tonight.

The name of this location shall be the “Trepi Forest”, with “Trepi” meaning “turn” as this forest is a turn away from derrick’s animal savannah.  As for why the computer named this clay “Stenium” I have no idea… the Greek prefix “Sten” means “Stand” or “Narrow”.  Maybe this clay can be converted into a useful building material?

Well, that’s it from me.  I’m gonna have a nap now, peace!

Story Post: Magnetic Gloves Deadly to Priora populum

I had heard that there were some yellow flowers growing around the Interu Hills so I traveled to the Qualifier Hills to take a look at them.  While I was there, I used my magnetic gloves to test how magnetism affects Priora populum.  The result was that the flowers grew these thorns which had a different colour from the rest of the plant.  If anyone wants to travel here they are going to have to take care in avoiding those thorns.

Story Post: “Hairy Wings” in the Open Plain

Having passed yet more hills, I reach more Savannah. I must say I expected more variety than this.

The computer has named this place “Campa”. Which is Latin for “Plains”. Its the plains of the plains. I swear a circuit got fried when the toxic gas popped up.

This Plains has these weird plants: the translation for their name is “Hairy Wing”. I presume its based on those leaves it has. I ought to get a closer look sometime…

Story Post: Bone Scanner Annoying to Tremadon

um, yeah. I wanted a good look at their bones and they got irritated. I’m still not sure if they have bones. If you want to pass through this area, you should be prepared.

Story Post: Gamma Pistol is Deadly with Opisthos

So I was curious about how the pistol seems to make everything stronger, and I tried it on some of those Opisthos.

They did not like it. Not at all. Fortunately, continued fire seems to put them down, but if you come through here, you might want to bring a pistol. Or keep an eye on the nearest tree.

Story Post: Canister of Glarsh is Harmless to Deltarite

Whoa, that was a weird hallucination. Anyways, so rather then applying some Glarsh onto the Gregite as I had thought I had done.  I instead poured a can of it on some Deltarite, it did nothing of note.

It feels good knowing that I in fact did not get my shirt melted off.

Story Post: Cannister of Glarsh is Damaging to Gregite

I found some Glarsh lying around so I thought this might be the solution to this whole poison gas problem.  Turns out when you pour Glarsh onto Gregite it boils into this weak acid that has a tendency of popping back at you.  Luckily it appears to not dissolve skin, gonna need to find a new shirt though.

In “Application”, replace the “Randomly select an Effect (excluding “Unknown”), naming the Equipment and the Discovery in the die roll comment” bullet with:-

* Prepare a list of Likely Effects of the Equipment: this list consists of every Effect once, followed by each Effect listed in that Equipment’s column in the Equipment Effects table. (The list can contain the same Effect multiple times, and Effects of Unknown are omitted from it.)
* Randomly select one of these Likely Effects, naming the Equipment and the Discovery in the die roll comment

Replace “skip the next three steps” with “skip the next four steps”.

Gamma Pistols are tending to the Restorative purely by chance - maybe we could lean into that and have each effect roll biased by its already-established effects, so that outcomes tend to be somewhat consistent across this planet, and if you need something Deadly or Damaging you can have some idea what might be your best bet.

Hazard Warning

Crew are advised that a low cloud of poisonous gregite monoxide now surrounds the Haniver, as a result of Pathfinder Jumble’s use of a fire extinguisher on the crystals found there. With little to no air convection in this region of New Ganymede, returning to the Cortex Desert will cost 3 Stamina until the gas can be dispersed or mitigated.

Each Craft recipe has Components, Apparatus and Output. Each Craft recipe must be rendered in the format “Components + Apparatus = Output”. Components may be Materials, Products or Equipment; Apparatus must be Equipment. The known Craft recipes can be found below.

In the same rule, change the line “A Pathfinder who is carrying both the Materials and Tools for a Craft recipe can spend 1 Stamina to stop carrying its Materials and start carrying its Output. Proposal: Tenured Mentors [Appendix] [Core]

Reword the “Mentors” rule to:-

A Pathfinder may have another Pathfinder as a Mentor. Pathfinders who are willing to act as a Mentor are listed on the Mentorships wiki page, and are said to be “Tenured”. A Pathfinder may add or remove their own name from this list at any time.

If an unmentored Pathfinder requests a Mentor, or a new Pathfinder has joined the game and has no Mentor, the Computer should select a Tenured Pathfinder and ask them to take that Pathfinder on as a Mentee; if they accept, then such a Mentorship is established. The Computer should take care to consider game balance when selecting a potential mentor.

A relationship between a mentor and a mentee is a Mentorship. The members and starting dates of all active Mentorships are tracked on the Mentorships wiki page, and whenever a new Mentorship is established, the Computer should announce it in a blog post. A Pathfinder may dissolve a Mentorship they are part of at any time, by announcing this in a blog post.

If there is no Computer, any Pathfinder who has been active in at least three previous dynasties may act as Computer for the purposes of this rule.

In “Idle Pathfinders”, add “Mentors” to the list of exempt rules, after “Fair Play”.

Add “Publius Scribonius Scholasticus” to the list of Tenured Pathfinders.

Make Derrick the Mentor of Raven1207.

Altering Mentorship to allow idle players to take on the role if they wish (both PSS and Card have expressed such an interest), and loosening the criteria for establishing a Mentorship - right now, Raven1207 cannot legally acquire a Mentor, even if they ask for one, as the existing rule ran out of possible Mentors when they joined and defaulted to “must go without a mentor”.

This also fast-tracks two invalid actions: PSS added themselves as a possible Mentor despite being idle at the time; Derrick agreed to become Raven1207’s Mentor but no rule currently allows it.

Application of Magnetic Gloves to Arcti Sordia

If the rule “Cartography” has been repealed, the rest of this proposal has no effect.

In “Cartography”, replace “the Computer may increase the Cartographer’s Prestige by 2” with:-

the Computer may increase the Cartographer’s Prestige by 3

To the end of “Cartography”, add:-

If a specific Location has existed for more than four days and a Pathfinder believes that it is not depicted on the current Map, and if the identity of the Cartographer has not changed in that time, then that Pathfinder may request to become the Cartographer by making a blog post to that effect. In response, the Computer may - if it agrees that the Location is not depicted - make that Pathfinder the Cartographer.

Bumping up the Cartographer’s weekly prestige award, and allowing anyone to grab the pen if the map isn’t being updated.

Call for Mentors

Have you considered whether being a mentor is right for you?

If not, you should - it’s genuinely a great way to engage with the game and its new players. I’m a couple of mentorships in, now, and they’ve really made me approach the game with fresh eyes - they’re low-impact but enjoyable for forcing you to consider why things are the way that they are and how to either make them better or exploit them for your own advantage, your call.

The only issue with the mentorship system as I’ve experienced it is that not enough of the longer-standing players are participating. So if you’ve been around for a few dynasties and want to make the on-ramp of the game easier then you shouldn’t hesitate; get to your local recruiting office (aka the mentorships page on the wiki https://wiki.blognomic.com/index.php?title=Mentorships#Mentors) and put your name down today

If you’re interested but nervous then I am happy to advise, you know, as a… mentor-mentor, I guess?

When a Location is created, it is Linked to the Location of the Pathfinder who created it, and vice versa.

The ruleset currently says that we should “assume” links are created reciprocally, but we aren’t always adding them to the Mission Log - meaning that people are possibly overlooking them when rolling to generate additional links, or deciding where to move to.

Would be safer to say that these aren’t automatically created, but can be created for free at any time.

Edited to make creating both links compulsory.

Story Post: Front and Back

In my expedition I have discovered yet more hills, along with a strange creature.

The computer insists on calling the hills the Hormi Hills, which is translated as the starting hills or beginning hills. This makes no sense to me. I’ve seen little else but hills in this direction. Maybe its some weird geolgical quirk. maybe it means I’ve left hills behind. Or maybe its some reference to the Opisthos, what the computer insists I call these creatures. That’s a reference to the rear or behind of the animals.

I smell a pun, but I can’t figure it out.

For each type of Equipment listed as Limited, create as many copies of that Equipment as are remaining and put them into the Computer-owned Base at the Cortex Desert.

Add 5 Magnetic Gloves and 5 Fire Extinguishers to the Computer-owned Base at the Cortex Desert.

In “Equipment”, remove the “Limited” keywords from the Equipment list, and the bracketed numbers after them.

Remove the paragraph beginning “Some Items are limited to a certain number in the supply crate”.

Remove the text “A Pathfinder with a location of Cortex Desert carrying fewer than three Items may start carrying any piece of Regulation Equipment, at any time.”

In “Prestige”, replace “Either action allows them to increase the Limit (the X) of a Limited Equipment by 1.” with:-

Either action allows them to add one Regulation Item to any Computer-owned Base.

To “Bases”, add:-

If there is a Computer-owned Base in the Cortex Desert, it may be referred to as the ISV Jenny Haniver.

The pile of “Regulation Equipment” collectable from the spaceship is now functionally more or less the same as the (currently empty) Computer-Controlled Base in the Cortex Desert, so let’s merge the two concepts. Note that the currently infinite Magnetic Gloves and Fire Extinguishers will become finite (although the crew can request more).

To “Animals, Vegetables and Minerals”, add a paragraph:-

The Computer may change the Description of any Discovery at any time, to a single sentence of no more than twenty words.

It’s concerning me that if we change “the process of creating Locations” without thinking about it, the generator becomes silently illegal. (Arguably the previous proposal is doing this immediately by amending how plants are named, and two of us didn’t even notice that.) This lets the Computer switch it on and off at will, and for proposals to switch it off when they are aware that they’re altering the process.

And while we’re here, maybe I should just fill out these blank descriptions.

Proposal: Auto-Look Again

Create a new rule called “Automation” with the following text:-

When creating a new Location and its associated Distinct Discovery, a Pathfinder may use the generator located at https://repl.it/repls/TealFewResources (without editing its source code) to make random choices instead of rolling for each separately. This is done by rolling DICE54321, pressing “Run” on the generator page and inputting the result of the roll. The values printed by the generator must then be used instead of making separate rolls.

The generator may not be used if it is Out-Of-Date. If the rules governing the process of creating Locations are changed, the generator becomes Out-Of-Date. The Computer may make the generator no longer Out-Of-Date at any time.

The generator is not Out-Of-Date.

In “Making New Distinct Discoveries”, replace “then add a space and another random Prefix” with:-

then add a space and another random Prefix (in lowercase)

For all Vegetable Discoveries, change the second word of their Name to be lower case.

Reproposing Aname’s Auto-Lookup with a new URL, and code updated to handle the different kingdoms correctly. As far as I understand it, an anonymous code page like that can’t be edited (if you try to, it gives you a new URL), but I’ll add a clause about not editing it.

Also correcting the pseudo-Latin plant names to have their second word in lowercase, while I’m here.

Add a subrule to the rule Bases, called The Probaliser:

When a Pathfinder uses the Probaliser, they must carry out the following atomic action:
* Spend 1 Stamina and 1 Probe
* Roll 2DICEX, where X is the number of Locations.
* If the result matches the index number of a Location, create a Base there owned by the Computer. If there is an existing Base in that Location then it is destroyed and any Gear that it contained is lost.
* If the result does not match the index number of a Location, create a new Location with no links, and create a Base there.

In the rule Bases, change “A pathfinder sharing a location with a base may remove an item from the base’s gear to start carrying it, and may stop carrying an item to put it in the base’s gear” to “A pathfinder sharing a location with a base owned by themselves or the Computer may remove an item from the base’s gear to start carrying it, and may stop carrying an item to put it in the base’s gear.”

Proposal: Building the Best Base

Reached quorum 5 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 24 Aug 2020 13:32:46 UTC

If the proposal “Base Camps” fails, this proposal does nothing

Add to the rule “Bases”

Each base’s usefulness is calculated as follows:
*The minimum number of links from the base’s location to the location of a base owned by the computer
*+5 if the base’s location has a topology no other base’s location has, or +2 if it shares a location topology with only one other base
*+2 for each dense or moderate discovery at the base’s location with a product that is not unknown
*+1 for each distinct infrastructure equipment in the base’s gear

Usefulness is intended to be used as a scoring mechanism.

Proposal: A Gun for Dinosaur

In “Effects”, replace “Add a Hazard to the location of the applying pathfinder. The Hazard has an effect of Deadly and its Discovery is the Discovery being applied to.” with:-

Add the Discovery as a Hazard to the Location of the applying Pathfinder.

After “Annoying”, add:-

If the Discovery is an Animal, add it as a Hazard to the Location of the applying Pathfinder.

In “Location”, replace “zero or more hazards. Hazards have an effect and a Discovery.” with:-

Zero or more Hazards, being a list of Discoveries.

In “Location”, replace “A Pathfinder can Travel by paying 1 Stamina, changing their Location to another which is Linked to their current Location. If the new Location has a Hazard that the Pathfinder is not carrying a piece of equipment that has a Restorative effect on that Hazard’s Discovery, they lose 2 Stamina.” with:-

A Pathfinder can Travel, changing their Location to another which is Linked to their current Location, by paying the following cost:-
* If the new Location contains an Animal Hazard and the Pathfinder is not carrying a piece of Equipment which has an Annoying, Damaging or Deadly Effect on that Animal, the cost is 5 Stamina.
* Otherwise, if the new Location contains a Mineral Hazard and the Pathfinder is not carrying a piece of Equipment which has a Restorative Effect on that Mineral, the cost is 3 Stamina.
* Otherwise, if the new Location contains a Vegetable Hazard and the Pathfinder is not carrying a piece of Equipment which has a Damaging Effect on that Vegetable, the cost is 2 Stamina.
* Otherwise, the cost is 1 Stamina

Making all Hazards just “Hazards” (the Deadly one doesn’t sound that Deadly), and changing the means by which you can evade them: restore Minerals as before, damage Vegetables, drive Animals away. Also making it a possibly bad idea to annoy the Animals.

Change the descriptions of the Location Actions to read as follows:

Create a new location: Daily action. Spend 2 Stamina to roll DICE8. If the result is higher than the number of Locations that are Linked to their current Location, then they may create a new Location with the characteristics set out above, and gain 2 Prestige.
Create a new Link: Daily action. Spend X Stamina and pick a location that can be reached by traveling X+1 times from their current location. Roll DICE8. If the result is higher than the number of Locations Linked to their current Location, and higher than the number of locations linked to the selected location, create a new Link from their current Location to the selected location and gain 1 Prestige.

Frontloads the Stamina cost and makes building longer link-loops possible.

Proposal: Imperator Rex [Appendix] [Core] [Special Case]

Self-killed. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 23 Aug 2020 14:43:30 UTC

Remove the entries “Can”, “Shall” and “Should” from the list of Keywords in the Glossary.

Remove the items “Daily Action”, “Daily Communal Action”, “Weekly Action” and “Weekly Communal Action” from the Glossary.

Remove the item “Dynastic Action” from the Glossary.

Add a new rule to the Appendix, called Imperatives and Frequencies:

An Action is any activity that the ruleset specifically permits Readers to carry out, and regulates the usage of. A Dynastic Action is an Action that is permitted by a Dynastic Rule; a Core Action is an Action that is permitted by a Core Rule.

The ruleset regulates the usage of Actions through Imperatives and Frequencies. A Frequency defines how frequently an Action may be undertaken by each Reader. An Imperative defines the circumstances within which Readers can undertake an Action. The terms used below to describe Imperatives and Frequencies are considered to be keywords when used in the contexts defined in this rule. In all other situations, they take their regular English meaning.

Add a sub-rule to that rule, entitled Imperatives:

Imperatives in use within BlogNomic are as follows:

‘’‘Can’‘’ or ‘’‘May’‘’: A Pathfinder is permitted to carry out this Action at any time, with no restrictions beyond those otherwise explicitly defined by the Ruleset.
‘’‘Should’‘’: In BlogNomic, ‘should’ tends to describe an action which a Pathfinder is recommended or encouraged, but not required, to undertake. For that reason it is recommended that ‘should’ is not used. If it is used, it is recommended that arranagemnents for the fail state (i.e. what happens if the action is not completed as specified) are made in the rule that defines the action
‘’‘Shall’‘’ or ‘’‘Must’‘’: A Pathfinder is required to carry out this Action at their earliest opportunity.
‘’‘Can, May, Shall’‘’ or ‘’‘Must Not’‘’: A Pathfinder is not permitted to carry out this Action under the defined conditions under any circumstances, or under all circumstances if no further qualifications are present.

No part of this rule restricts Readers from posting a CfJ, under any circumstances.

Add the following to the bulleted list in the rule Fair Play:

A Pathfinder may not intentionally fail to perform an action that the rules state that Amnesiac “shall” or “must” perform, nor attempt to gain an advantage from intentionally delaying such an action.

Make the following changes the the ruleset:

In the rule Idle Pathfinders, change the word ‘should’ to ‘must’.
In the rule Enacting and Failing, change the word ‘should’ to ‘may’.
In the rule Victory and Ascension, change the word ‘should’ to ‘must’.
In the rule Fair Play, change the sentence “Pathfinders should vote against any DoV that relies on having broken a fair play rule” to “A Pathfinder who has achieved Victory through breaking a Fair Play rule has not achieved Victory. No Dynastic Rule allowing a player to achieve Victory has precidence over this rule”. Change all other ‘should’s to ‘must’s.
In the rule Seasonal Downtime, change “During this time no game actions may be taken” to “During this time game actions must not be taken”.
In the rule The Traitor, change the word ‘should’ to ‘must’.
In the rule Numbers and Clarifications, keep the first instance of the word ‘should’ as the word ‘should’ and change the second to ‘must’.
In the rule Mentors, change the first instance of the word ‘should’ to ‘may, the second to ‘must’, the third to ‘may’, and the fourth to ‘must’. Change the title of the rule ‘Things a mentor should do’ to ‘Things a mentor may do’. In that rule, change the words ‘can and should’ to ‘may’, change the second ‘should’ to ‘may’, the third to ‘must’, and the fourth to ‘is encouraged to’. In the rule ‘Things that a mentor should not do’ change all instances of the word should, including in the rule title, to ‘must’.

Add another new subrule to the rule “Imperatives and Frequencies”, entitled Frequencies:

Standardised frequencies in use in BlogNomic are as follows:

‘’‘Daily’‘’: A Pathfinder may carry out this Action once per Day, but not more than once in any ten-hour period.
‘’‘Bi-daily’‘’: A Pathfinder may carry out this Action once every two Days, but not more than once in any twelve-hour period.
‘’‘Weekly’‘’: A Pathfinder may carry out this Action once every Week, but not more than once in any twenty-four-hour period.

Action frequencies may be modified as follows:

‘’‘Communal’‘’: Any Action that is marked as Communal may only be carried out by a single Pathfinder in the stated Frequency period.
‘’‘X-Usage’‘’: Any Action that is marked as X-Usage, where X is any integer, may be carried out X times by the using Pathfinder in its Frequency period.

Other frequencies can be used provided that they are adequately defined elsewhere in the ruleset.

The long overdue imperative and frequency rework. Please enact this so I can finally pass from this plane of existence, a tormented shade no more.

Proposal: Base Camps

Reached quorum 5 votes to 1. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 23 Aug 2020 14:41:04 UTC

Create a rule named “Bases”

Bases are tracked on the Mission Log wiki page. Bases have the following attributes:
*An owner, which is either none, the computer, or a pathfinder, defaulting to none
*A Location
*Gear, which is a list of items

A pathfinder who is not the owner of a base and is at a location without a base and not linked to a location with a base may spend 3 stanima to create a base.

A pathfinder sharing a location with a base may remove an item from the base’s gear to start carrying it, and may stop carrying an item to put it in the bases’s gear

Create a Base owned by the computer with no gear and a location of cortex desert

Add to the rule “Equipment”

Some equipment is infrastructure. Infrastructure may only be crafted by a pathfinder sharing a location with a base, by default is a blunt object, and a pathfinder carrying infrastructure may not change their location

Bases allow pathfinders to set up a camp somewhere. The idea is to let people claim (more or less) different areas so they can study them more effectively, claim credit for what goes on in an area, and generally add some asymmetry to pathfinder game state. The computer base is to lock out the obvious starting points.

Append the following to the effect of “Damaging” in the rule “Equipment”:

If this Discovery is a Mineral, the reaction damages the equipment: the Applying Pathfinder must lose the applied Equipment, or another Item they are carrying if the one applied was Single-Use. If the Discovery is an Animal or a Vegetable, the results are frightening: the Applying Pathfinder must lose one of their Items. In both cases, if the Pathfinder no longer has any Items, this Effect does nothing.

Making Applying a bit more risky before we unlock it.

Proposal: Auto-lookup

Adminned at 22 Aug 2020 12:08:55 UTC

Create a new rule titled “Automation”, with the following text:

When creating a new Location and its associated Distinct Discovery, a Pathfinder may use the generator located at https://repl.it/@blognomicaname/BlogNomic-Location-generator#main.py to make random choices instead of rolling for each separately.

The Location-generating process is a bit tedious right now (six random rolls) but can be easily automated and turned into a single dice roll. I’m not sure if this is a good idea, but it was suggested on the chat and might be useful.

Story Post: The Branchin Mountains

With another high roll(7), lucky me discovered yet another link to the cortex desert, the branchin mountains. With that another mineral has also been found, the mundane Mundium.

Story Post: Magnetic Gloves are Damaging to Iterium

A chunk of Iterium got stuck to the gloves. The sound it made when detached sounded a lot like “ouch”.

By the way, it looks like Iterium is missing from the list in “Animals, Vegetables and Minerals”, which I noticed after completing everything and might mean that its generation was never completed…

Change:

Create a new Link from their current Location to a Location that is no more than one Location removed from it by spending 1 Stamina, and gain 1 Prestige.

To:

Create a new Link: Daily action. Pick a location that can be reached by traveling twice from their current location. Roll DICE8. If the result is higher than the number of Locations Linked to their current Location, and higher than the number of locations linked to the selected location,  Create a new Link from their current Location to the selected location by spending 1 Stamina and gaining 1 Prestige.

I’m a little concerned that the cortex desert will end up connected to everything. This makes it harder to build massive hubs, and thus makes our geography more interesting.

In “Representations of the Gamestate”, replace:-

If a Pathfinder feels that a representation of the gamestate (such as a wiki page) was altered such that it no longer matches the gamestate (such as by performing an action which was against the Rules as they were at the time of the alteration, or by any other means), they may simply undo the effects of that alteration. Instead of repeatedly reverting and re-reverting a disputed alteration, Pathfinders are encouraged to raise a Call for Judgement instead.

with:-

If a Pathfinder feels that a representation of the gamestate (such as a wiki page) does not match the gamestate, they may either:

* Undo the effects of any alteration that led to it, if that alteration did not follow the rules at the time it was made.
* Alter the representation to match what they believe to be the correct application of an incorrectly-applied alteration. This may include completing incomplete actions on behalf of the original Pathfinder, if doing so would not require the correcting Pathfinder to make any decisions on behalf of the original Pathfinder.

Instead of repeatedly reverting and re-reverting a disputed alteration, however, Pathfinders are encouraged to raise a Call for Judgement.

This follows on from this comment regarding an illegal action: if someone gets an action wrong and creates invalid gamestate, there’s some uneven precedent for just fixing that up where possible - the boundary line probably being whether any further decisions are required from the action’s performer, or whether we’re just tidying up.

(If I pick an apple but forget to decrement the tree apple count, it feels equally acceptable for other players to either undo my action, or to complete it on my behalf in the only way it could be completed. If I pick an apple but forget to say whether I’m picking it from my own tree or Cuddlebeam’s tree, and fail to decrement either, other players shouldn’t step in and decide which tree I meant, and can only undo it.)

Proposal: Try Hitting It With This

Timed out and enacted, 6-1. Josh

Adminned at 21 Aug 2020 18:00:15 UTC

After the “Equipment Effects” table, add a paragraph:-

Some pieces of Equipment are Blunt Objects: for any particular Discovery, the Effects of all Blunt Objects on it are the same, and are tracked by a separate “Blunt Objects” column of the Equipment Effects table, instead of by name there.

Set the Effects of the “Blunt Objects” column to be that of the Wrench.

Add “Blunt Object.” after the names of the Wrench, Rappel Cords and (if they exist) the Game System and the Clandestine Den, in the list of Equipment.

Should probably start pooling these together rather than having wildly different effects for hitting a rock with a Wrench or a Game System or whatever we invent next.

Proposal: A Dangerous Land

Reached quorum 6 votes to 1. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 21 Aug 2020 10:53:13 UTC

Add to the list of characteristics a Location has:

* zero or more hazards. Hazards have an effect and a Discovery.

Before:
“If this Discovery is a Mineral, it emits toxic gases: the Applying Pathfinder must set their Stamina to zero and lose all Items they are carrying”
Add:

Add a Hazard to the location of the applying pathfinder. The hazard has an effect of Deadly and its Discovery is the Discovery being applied to .

After:
“A Pathfinder can Travel by paying 1 Stamina, changing their Location to another which is Linked to their current Location.”
Add:

If the new Location has a hazard that the pathfinder is not carrying a piece of equipment that has a restorative effect on that hazard’s discovery, they lose 2 stanima.

This makes permanent hazards on the map, and gives people the ability to ignore them with the right gear.

Proposal: Encyclopedia Ganymedia

Add the following to the end of the rule called “Animals, Vegetables and Minerals”:

A Discovery is said to be Understood if either every piece of Equipment has a known Effect on it, or every possible Effect is known to be caused by using at least one piece of Equipment on it; otherwise it is Not Understood.

Add the following to the end of the rule called “Locations”:

A Location is said to be Understood if every Discovery that is there is Understood; otherwise it is Not Understood.

Add a new rule to the ruleset, called Understanding:

Locations and Discoveries can be Understood. If every Location on New Ganymede is Understood then New Ganymede is Understood; otherwise it is Not Understood. If New Ganymede, a Location or a Discovery is Understood but then ceases to meet the criteria to be Understood then it immediately ceases to be Understood.

If New Ganymede is Understood then the Pathfinder with the highest Prestige has achieved Victory.

I think that this is worded tightly enough to be not subject to an instant scam? I encourage close reading. No scam by me is intended.

Add a subrule to “Animals, Vegetables and Minerals” called “Animal Psyche”:

Animals can have a Psyche (or none), tracked in their listing at the Discoveries list in the ruleset. When an Animal Discovery has 5 or more different known Effects, it is Understood. At that moment, the animal gains a randomly selected Psyche. The following are the Psyche:

- Affectionate: A Pathfinder at their Location can Groom them by spending 2 Stamina to gain up to three Toxic Spines
- Aggressive: A Pathfinder at their Location can Taunt them. Doing so causes the Pathfinder to lose all of their carried Items and Stamina.
- Collaborative: A Pathfinder at their Location can Milk them, spending an Raw Edible Mass and 1 Stamina to gain up to three Oily Secretion.
- Eldritch: -

Story Post: Is this a mirage

Proposal: Power Cords

Reached quorum 6 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 20 Aug 2020 09:58:06 UTC

In “Equipment”, reword the effects of Rappel Cords from “A system of cables and zip lines to facilitate transport. A Pathfinder Travelling or Dragging to or from a Location with Rappel Cords doesn’t need to spend Stamina to do so. Artificial. Mineral.” to:-

If a Pathfinder is carrying Rappel Cords, all Items they are carrying are considered to have zero Encumbrance for them.

In “Stamina”, replace “As a weekly communal action, a Pathfinder may Sunrise, granting each Pathfinder 7 Stamina (or setting it to 10, if it’s at more than 3).” with:-

As a weekly communal action, a Pathfinder may Sunrise, granting each Pathfinder 7 Stamina (or setting it to 10, if it’s at more than 3), then decreasing each Pathfinder’s Stamina by the total Encumbrance of the Items that Pathfinder is carrying (to a minimum of zero).

In “Products”, after “Structural Beam”, add:-

: Encumbrance of 3.

In “Products”, after “Radioactive Brick”, add:-

: Encumbrance of 7.

Add a Craft recipe:-

* Long Fibers or Conductive Wire + Wrench = Rappel Cords

And change “* Ingot + Wrench and Magnetic Gloves = Rappel Cords” to:-

* Ingot + Wrench and Magnetic Gloves = Conductive Wire

Giving Rappel Cords a useful effect (they were written as a static object to make dragging easier, but they’re now Equipment and “dragging” is no longer a game concept). And we may as well work the Conductive Wire in.

Proposal: Recreation Creation

SK - CB

Adminned at 20 Aug 2020 07:03:32 UTC

Add to the list of equipment:

Camp Fire: If a Pathfinder’s Location has a Bonfire when a Sunrise happens, they gain 3 Stamina immediately after it.
Game System: If a non-Satisfied Pathfinder’s Location has a Game System, they can Play at it. Doing so causes them to gain 2 Stamina and makes them Satisfied, tracked as an apostrophe (’) in their Stamina column. During a Sunrise, they lose their Satisfied status.
Clandestine Den: A non-Twitchy Pathfinder can Smoke if their Location has a Clandestine Den by paying 1 Stamina. Doing so makes them Twitchy and causes them to lose 1 Prestige.

Add to the list of Crafts:

Structural Beam or Long Fibers or Flammable Liquid + Rocket Fuel = Camp Fire
Ingot or Radioactive Brick or Conductive Wire + Wrench = Game System
Hallucinogenic Substance or Toxic Spines or Oily Secretion + Canister of Glarsh = Clandestine Den

Add to “Locations” a subrule called “Storage”:

Locations can have Items, tracked in the Mission Log. A Pathfinder can Drop an Item they are carrying, transferring it from themselves to their Location. A Pathfinder can Pick Up an Item at their Location, transferring it from the Location to themselves (they start carrying it), by paying 1 Stamina

Proposal: Turning the Tables

Popular, 7-0. Josh

Adminned at 19 Aug 2020 13:13:07 UTC

Under the “Equipment” rule, add a table whose columns are Equipments, rows are Discoveries, and entries are the Effect of applying the Equipment on the Discovery.  Initialize the table cells according to the Effects registered in the Equipment list, leaving the cell empty to denote Unknown effects.  Remove the description of Effects from the Equipment list.

Under rule “Application”, substitute

Update the Equipment rule to list the effect of that Equipment on that Discovery

with

Update the Equipment rule to include the effect of that Equipment on that Discovery in the corresponding cell in the table

In “Animals, Vegetables and Minerals”, replace “Name [Classification, Dispersal] Description” with:-

Name [Classification, Dispersal] Description [→ Product]

Replace all Ingots carried by Pathfinders with Ingot Products, then remove the Ingot from the Equipment list.

Set all Discoveries’ Products to Unknown.

We didn’t catch it during voting, but More Than Metal neglected to specify where Discoveries’ Products were tracked, making this an unusable orphan variable. It also created a new Ingot Product without removing the Ingot Equipment.

A quick fix so that this doesn’t slow the game down (as it stands an Application that finds a Productive effect cannot be completed, because there’s nowhere to track it).

Proposal: Oh Mister Pathfinder

Remove “The Mission Control wiki page also contains a visual depiction of the continent.” and “Whenever a Pathfinder successfully completes a Location Action they should then download, amend and re-upload the map on the Mission Control page to show the location and links of the new Location.” from the ruleset.

Replace “Mission Control” with “Mission Log”, throughout the dynastic ruleset.

Enact a new rule, “Cartography”:-

One Pathfinder or the Computer may be designated as the Cartographer, and this is tracked in the following sentence. The current Cartographer is the Computer. If the Cartographer is a Pathfinder and becomes idle, then the Computer becomes the Cartographer.

A map of New Ganymede is contained in the image file [[:File:Newganymede.jpg]] on the wiki, and is known as the Map. All text on the Map is flavour text, and the imagery on it is not considered to have any meaning except for the purposes of the Computer judging its accuracy.

The Cartographer may update the Map at any time by uploading a new version of the same file. The Computer may consider the Map to be accurate if they believe that it accurately depicts all existing Locations and Links. As a weekly action which may only be taken when the Map is accurate and the Cartographer is not the Computer, the Computer may increase the Cartographer’s Prestige by 2.

If any EVCs on this proposal contain the phrase “Mapping Is For Me”, select a random Pathfinder from among those who used such a phrase in their EVC, and make them the Cartographer.

A more informal take on mapmaking: draw what you like, and get +2 Prestige per week from the Computer for doing a subjectively good job.

Proposal: Pathfinders with paths

SK - CB

Adminned at 19 Aug 2020 07:32:39 UTC

Add a new rule to the ruleset, entitled Cartography:

One Pathfinder is designated as the Cartographer. The current Cartographer is blank. The Cartographer may not be the Leader. If the Cartographer becomes idle then they immediately cease to be the Cartographer; if ever there is no Cartographer then the Computer must canvas all active Pathfinders for volunteers to take the role and then allocate it to one of theinterested parties at random.

A map is held on the Mission Control page depicting the Haniverian Continent, which contains all of the Locations that have been explored by Pathfinders. The Cartographer is responsible for ensuring that this map is up to date; whenever they receive a notofication from a Pathfinder that a new Location has been explored, or if the map does not depict all explored Locations they shall, at their earliest opportunity, carry out the following atomic action:

* Add the new Location to the map
* Add any links to the map
* Re-upload the map to the Mission Control page
* Award themselves 1 Prestige
* Make a blog post announcing that the new Location has been added to the map.

The Cartographer may resign their position at any time by sending a PM to the Computer to that effect. The Computer must acknowledge receipt of that PM at their earliest opportunity; they Pathfinder ceases to be the Cartographer at the moment at which that acknowledgement is sent.

Remove the lines “The Mission Control wiki page also contains a visual depiction of the continent” and “Whenever a Pathfinder successfully completes a Location Action they should then download, amend and re-upload the map on the Mission Control page to show the location and links of the new Location” from the rule Locations.

Change the “Create a new location” Location Action to read as follows:

Explore a new location: roll DICE8. If the result is higher than the number of Locations that are Linked to their current Location, then they may spend 2 Stamina to create a new Location with the characteristics set out above. They must then PM the Cartographer to notify them about the newly explored Location.

If no EVCs on this proposal contain the phrase ‘Mapping Is For Me,’ make the Pathfinder called Josh be the Cartographer.

Add a new rule, called “Health”:-

Health (abbreviated HP) is tracked at the “Mission Log”. Pathfinders have a non-negative integer amount of Health, defaulting to 10.  As a daily action, a Pathfinder in the Cortex Desert Location who has X HP may heal themselves by Y, where Y is an integer between 1 and X + 1 (inclusive), increasing their HP up to a maximum of 10.  A PathFinder whose HP is between 1 and 9 (inclusive) is known to be “injured”.  A PathFinder whose HP is 0 is known to be “badly injured”.

The intention is not to implement a death condition (not fun), but to implement some negative effects for losing (too much) health.

(The enactment of What’s Mined is Mine doesn’t change anything, as they still wouldn’t have got an Ingot because they didn’t complete the action.)

Cuddlebeam’s copying of the action later that day had no effect, because the rules don’t say that Vertorite produces Ingots.

This leaves us with both Zyborg and Cuddlebeam being halfway through the same atomic action - I think we’re waiting for Zyborg to “Update the Equipment rule to list the effect of that Equipment on that Discovery” and Cuddlebeam to “Randomly select an Effect (excluding “Unknown”), naming the Equipment and the Discovery in the die roll comment”. Neither player may take any other dynastic action until they’ve finished their atomic action.

Proposal: Annoying the locals

Timed out 2 votes to 5. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 18 Aug 2020 21:37:13 UTC

Amend the bullet point for “Annoying” in the subrule “Effects” of “Equipment” as follows:

* Annoying: If this Discovery is a Distinct Animal, the Applying Pathfinder may change its Dispersal Location to a Location linked to the current one.

Proposal: Concentrate and you’ll find it

Reached quorum 7 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 18 Aug 2020 14:11:45 UTC

To the end of the Rule “Animals, Vegetables and Minerals”, append:

A Discovery is considered to be in a Location if that Location has a dense or moderate concentration of the Discovery.

Uphold all Applying actions that would have been legal at the time if the Locations of Discoveries were interpreted as described above.

The ruleset suggests that concentration has to do with the location of Discoveries, but there are multiple levels of concentration and only one “located” that matters for the purpose of Applying—making sure it’s explicit.

Data Error in Mission Log 11109

Pathfinder Raven1207 updated the mission log with a supplemental request of “Please tell me if i did this right”. Looking at the data: no, this appears to have been incorrect as it did not include “A Distinct Discovery, generated as per the process set out in the rule Making New Distinct Discoveries” - I can’t see that the Unknown Qualifian Vegetable fits this (even with the potential stretch of reading “generated” as “already generated in the past by someone else”, the ruleset only lists an Unknown Qualifian Mineral).

This should have been an Unknown Energetic Vegetable, to match the Location name, and it should have been created and added to the ruleset as per this rule.

Since creating a Location isn’t an atomic action, it’s unclear how exactly to proceed here - I think you’ve got the freedom to either continue taking the action that you already started, but finishing it correctly (keeping the same die rolls), or start it again from scratch.

I’ve undone the update to the Mission Log for now, as the Location as defined cannot legally exist and other Pathfinders shouldn’t build on it.

Proposal: More than Metal

Reached quorum 8 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan. Note that Discoveries’ Products are orphan variables.

Adminned at 18 Aug 2020 11:38:23 UTC

Add to the list of characteristics a Discovery may have:

A Product: which defaults to unknown.

Change:

If this Discovery is a Mineral, the Applying Pathfinder may gain 1 Ingot.

To

If this discovery has a product of unknown, set this discoveries product to a random value from the product list corresponding to this discoveries classification, and the Applying pathfinder may gain 1 of the discoveries product. Otherwise, the Applying pathfinder may gain 1 of the discoveries product

Create a rule named Products:

Mineral Products are:
*Ingot
*Flammable Liquid
*Radioactive Brick
*Conductive Wire
Animal Products are:
*Raw Edible Mass
*Waterproof sheet
*toxic spines
*long fibers
Vegetable Products are:
*Raw Edible Mass
*Oily Secretion
*Structural Beam
*Hallucigenic Substance

Set the product of all discoveries in the ruleset to unknown.

Change

Pathfinders may carry up to two pieces of Equipment, and default to carrying none. The Equipment they carry is tracked in the Mission Log wiki page.

to:

Pathfinders may carry up to three items, and default to carrying none. The Items they carry are tracked in the Mission Log wiki page.

After that paragraph, add :

Pieces of equipment and products are items.

Change:

fewer than three pieces of Equipment

To:

fewer than three items

This lets us carry things that are not equipment, and lets discoveries produce different useful things, that aren’t immediately useful. I’ve also updated the carrying capacity to three.

Feel free to change the list of products. This is just a starting suggestion.

Change:

A Player carrying fewer than three pieces of Equipment may start carrying any piece of Regulation Equipment, at any time.

To

A Pathfinder with a location of Cortex Desert carrying fewer than three pieces of Equipment may start carrying any piece of Regulation Equipment, at any time.

This should make the central location more relevant, and eliminates magic pockets.

Rewrite the rule called Prestige as follows:

Each Pathfinder has an amount of Prestige, which is a non-negative integer that is tracked on the Mission Log page of the wiki.

If one Pathfinder has the most Prestige then they are the Leader. If there is a Leader and one Pathfinder has the the second-most Prestige then that Pathfinder is the Second in Command.

The Leader can Call In Supplies by spending 1 Stamina, and the Second in Command can Request Supplies by spending 2 Stamina. Either action allows them to increase the Limit (the X) of a Limited Equipment by 1.

Change the Location Actions in the rule Location to read as follows:

* Create a new location: Daily action. Roll DICE8. If the result is higher than the number of Locations that are Linked to their current Location, then they may spend 2 Stamina to create a new Location with the characteristics set out above, and gain 2 Prestige.
* Create a new Link from their current Location to a Location that is no more than one Location removed from it by spending 1 Stamina, and gain 1 Prestige.

FIxes a bug / scam where “The Leader can Call In Supplies by spending 1 Stamina, and increase the Limit (the X) of a Limited Equipment by 1” creates two potential actions, rather than one with a clarifying description. Gets rid of the Leader not being able to win - it’s an interesting idea that I would love to reintroduce later but at the moment it’s just a disincentive for anyone to do anything. Adds a few more ways to generate Prestige.

Add to the list of Craft recipes:

Rocket Fuel + Canister of Glarsh = Energy Drink

Add to the list of Equipment:

Energy Drink: A non-Twitchy Pathfinder carrying this can Consume it, spending it to set their Stamina to 10, but making them Twitchy, tracked as a an asterisk next to their Stamina value. Twitchy Pathfinders don’t recover Energy from a Sunrise, and lose their Twitchy status immediately after a Sunrise. Artificial. Single-Use.

Add after the fifth bullet point in the Applying Atomic Action:

* If the Equipment applied is Single-Use, cease carrying one instance of it.

In “Making New Distinct Discoveries”, replace the bullet point beginning “Give it a name, which must take the format of” with:-

Generate a valid Name for it, and give it that Name

To the end of that rule, add:-

Prefixes are those in the [[List of Latin and Greek prefixes]] wiki page (their hyphens ignored).

* To generate a valid Name for an Animal: Select a random Prefix, then add either “on”, “os”, “ox” or “us” at random (if the prefix ends in a consonant) or “don”, “raptor”, “saur” or “tops” at random (if the prefix ends in a vowel) to the end.
* To generate a valid Name for a Vegetable: Select a random Prefix, add an “a” to the end if it ends in a consonant, then add a space and another random Prefix, then add “ia” or “um” (chosen at random) to the end.
* To generate a valid Name for a Mineral: Select a random Prefix, add an “s” to the end if it ends in a vowel, then add “ite” or “ium” (chosen at random) to the end.

If a generated Name would exactly match the Name of an existing Discovery, add the prefix “mega” or “ultra” (selected at random) to the generated Name.

In “Location”, replace “A name, which is randomly selected from the EFF Wordlist (re-rolling if the result is currently in use in the name of another Location) followed by the location’s Topology” with:-

A name, which is a string, and which when created is formed from a random Prefix followed by a random vowel (if the Prefix ends in a consonant) or a random consonant (if it ends in a vowel), followed by a space, followed by the location’s Topology (re-rolling if the result is currently in use in the name of another Location)

Generate valid Names for all Discoveries except Deltarite, Sudorite and Vertorite, in the order they appear in the ruleset, and give those Discoveries those Names.

Switching from the EFF word list to Latin/Greek prefixes.

Remove the bullet point beginning “Submit a description of the Discovery to the Computer.” from the rule “Making New Distinct Discoveries”.

Replace “Those discovered so far are:-” with “Those discovered so far (listed as “Name [Classification, Dispersal] Description”) are:-”

Reformat the list in “Animals, Vegetables and Minerals” to a bulleted list of “* Name [Classification, Dispersal] Description”.

In Location, after “A name, which is randomly selected from the EFF Wordlist (re-rolling if the result is currently in use in the name of another Location) followed by the location’s Topology”, add:-

. This name is flavour text.

A simpler computer security update to patch the exploit introduced by Pathfinder Josh, and to reclarify that Location Names are flavour text (as who knows what surprises the EFF list holds). Also reformatting the list as a list, as I assume the aesthetic redesign was mostly to enable the scam.

Discovery descriptions will remain Pending for now.

In the rule “Making New Distinct Discoveries”, change the bullet item

Submit a description of the Discovery to the Computer. The Computer must then check the description to confirm that it would, in practice, not cease to be flavour text when added to the ruleset. They should then replace the words “Description Pending” in the Description of that Discovery to the description with which they have been provided.

My mistake, some slopping drafting from me here, but in Proposal: This Thing Is My Thing I wrote “[The Computer] should then replace the words “Description Pending” in the Description of that Discovery to the description with which they have been provided.”

The Computer is interpreting this as an optional instruction. We can go back through the ruleset and the history of the game and dig up decades of arguments supporting either side of this; the appendix says “is recommended to” but Fair Play endows a number of “should” statements with the force of a “must”. The long-languishing imperatives rework will hopefully fix this, but for here and now, it’s caused a problem.

My contention is that, in almost every instance, the term “should” exists to protect the game from being put into an illegal state by non-compliance, and it does not actually endow the player with complete discression to not comply. Therefore my remedy is that the Computer immediately implement the description for the Unknown Cortex Mineral provided to them by the Pathfinder called Josh.

Full disclosure: this is a victory scam.

Proposal: What’s Mined is Mine

popular 7 to 0. Enacted by Derrick.

Adminned at 17 Aug 2020 03:03:33 UTC

Upon approval of this Proposal, if the Proposal “Pocket Ingot” has been enacted, retroactively award any Ingots that would have been awarded if “Pocket Ingot” was in place at the beginning of the Dynasty.

Both a selfish request, and an attempt to get people nervous to test before “Pocket Ingot” is enacted to be a little less nervous and a little more adventurous.

Story Post: Bone Scanner is Productive to Vertorite

Zyborg has discovered that the Bone Scanner has a productive effect on Vertorite, and has converted 1 sample into 1 Ingot. If the Pocket Ingot rule had been passed, Zyborg would have had 1 Ingot.

Add after “Gamma Pistol:”

Armament: 2.

Add to the list of Equipment:

Tampered Gamma Pistol: Armament 4. Tracked as “TG Pistol” in the Mission Log. If this Equipment’s Effect onto a Discovery would become Productive, it instead becomes Deadly.

Create a new rule called “Battle”:

Equipment have an Armament value. Equipment without an Armament value listed have an Armament value of 1. The sum of a Pathfinder’s Armament is their Power.

A Pathfinder can Assault a Pathfinder at their Location by paying 1 Stamina. If they do so and their Power is higher than the targeted Pathfinder’s, the targeted Pathfinder loses an Equipment of the Assaulting Pathfinder’s choice.

A Pathfinder can be Patrolling until they change their Location by paying 2 Stamina. This is tracked as an asterisk next to their Location. A Location with a Patrolling Pathfinder cannot be entered by another Pathfinder unless they have more Power than the Patroller.

Add to the list of Crafts:

* Ingot and Gamma Pistol + Wrench = Tampered Gamma Pistol

Add the following to the ruleset as a new role called Jobs

Each Pathfinder has a Job, which is tracked on the Pathfinders wiki page and defaults to “none”. If a Pathfinder’s Job is “none” then they may set it to one of the following:

  • Leader (of which there may only be 1 of)
  • Second in command (of which there may only be 1 of)
  • Botanist
  • Physicist
  • Chemist
  • Researcher
  • Journalist

Create a new rule called “Prestige”:

Each Pathfinder has an amount of Prestige, tracked at Mission Log. The Pathfinder with the most Prestige is the Leader, if there is only one. The Pathfinder with the second-most Prestige is the Second in Command, if there is only one. The Leader cannot achieve victory as they’ll be eventually trapped and mass-cloned as the ideal space-farer.

The Leader can Call In Supplies by spending 1 Stamina, and increase the Limit (the X) of a Limited Equipment by 1. The Second in Command can Request Supplies by spending 2 Stamina, and increase the Limit (the X) of a Limited Equipment by 1.

Amend the sub-rule “Application” to read in full:

- As a weekly action, a Pathfinder may take the following atomic action, known as “Applying”:-
- Choose a piece of Equipment from among those they are carrying, and a Discovery in the PathFinder’s current Location
- If the Equipment’s effect on that Discovery is not Unknown, skip the next three steps
- Randomly select an Effect (excluding “Unknown”), naming the Equipment and the Discovery in the die roll comment
- Update the Equipment rule to list the effect of that Equipment on that Discovery
- Gain 1 Prestige
- Apply the Consequence (if any) of that Effect
- Post a blog entry summarizing what just happened

Adding a benefit to the currently somewhat selfless ability to discover new Effects - with a twist! Also, making a way to get more Limited items: the people in charge choose if we get any more.

Proposal: This Thing Is My Thing

Edited per the instructions in Proposal: SomeThing in the Water.

Enacted 7-0. Josh

Adminned at 15 Aug 2020 08:25:29 UTC

Add the following as the fourth item in the list of characteristics a Location can have in the rule Locations:

* A Distinct DIscovery, generated as per the process set out in the rule Making New Distinct Discoveries. A Location is said to have a Dense concentration of its Distinct Discovery, a moderate concentration of the Distinct Discoveries of any Location to which it is Linked and any General Discovery, and a sparse concentration of any other Distinct Discovery.

Rewrite the rule Animals, Vegetables and Minerals as follows:

Numerous Discoveries exist on this planet. Each Discovery has the following characteristics, where the Name and Description of each Discovery is always flavour text:

*A Name
*A Classification: Each Discovery must be either an Animal, Vegetable or Mineral.
*A Dispersal: A Discovery can be either General or Distinct [x], where x is the name of the Location with which it is associated.
*A Description: A brief description of what the Discovery looks like.

Those discovered so far are:-

Deltarite.
Mineral, General
A powdery orange Mineral.

Sudorite.
Mineral, General
A faintly glowing silver Mineral.

Vertorite.
Mineral, General
A glittering dark grey Mineral.

Add a new subrule to the rule Animals, Vegetables and Minerals, entitled Making New Distinct Discoveries:

Whenever a Pathfinder is called upon to create a new Distinct Discovery, they must do so by carrying out the following atomic action:

* Give it a Classification, which must be either Animal, Vegetable or Mineral, at random.
* Give it a name, which must take the format of: the word Unknown, followed by the word from the EFF Wordlist randomly selected to be in the name of that Location, with a suffix denoting place of origin (such as (-ian or -ese)), followed by its Classification.
* Set its Dispersal to Distinct [x], where x is the name of the Location where it was created.
* Set its Description to “Description Pending”.
* Add the Discovery to the list in the rule Animals, Vegetables and Minerals.
* Submit a description of the Discovery to the Computer. The Computer must then check the description to confirm that it would, in practice, not cease to be flavour text when added to the ruleset. They should then replace the words “Description Pending” in the Description of that Discovery to the description with which they have been provided.

Create a new Distinct Discovery for all Locations, as if they were generated from each Location in question.

If there exists a rule called Prospecting, change all instances of the term “Discovery Type” in it (or in the rule Application) to “Discovery Classification”, and change all instances of the term “add a Discovery” to “create a Distinct Discovery”.

Throughout the Dynastic Ruleset, change all instances of the term “Thing” to “Discovery”.

In all pending Proposals or CfJs, change any instance of the term “Thing” that would be added to a dynastic rule to “Discovery”.

Thing is too conceptually vague, I think, and it’s leading to a lot of dissonance.

Proposal: The Geology Game

Fewer than a quorum not voting against. Failed 1 vote to 6 by Kevan.

Adminned at 15 Aug 2020 07:34:22 UTC

Change the rule Animals, Vegetables, and Minerals to read:

A Thing has a Thing Type and a Location. It may be referred to as the [Location] [Thing Type]. If a Thing Type has or is an attribute, a thing with that Thing Type also has or is that attribute. Things may be said to be instances of their thing type. Things are tracked on the mission control wiki page.
Thing Types have a name, a description, a classification, and rules notes. These may be written [name] ([classification]): [description] | [rules notes]. The name and description are flavor text.

Possible Thing Type classifications are Animal, Vegetable, and Mineral.

The discovered Thing Types so far are:
*Delarite (mineral): a powdery orange mineral
*Sudorite (mineral):  a faintly glowing silver mineral
*Vertorite (mineral): a glittering dark grey mineral
*Rock (mineral): a boring mineral | harmless when applied with any equipment. Anchored

A Pathfinder can Drag a thing at their location by spending 2 stamina and moving that thing and themselves to a Linked Location

Anchored Things cannot be dragged

Add  a subrule named “Prospecting” to the rule “Animal, Vegetable, and Mineral”

a pathfinder may prospect if they are in a location that does not have a Thing with a Thing Type of Rock by spending 1 stamina and Rolling DICE4.
*If the result is less or equal to the number of Mineral Things with that location, add a Thing with a Thing Type of Rock and a location of the pathfinder’s current location.
*If the result is greater than the number of minerals in that location, add a Thing with the pathfinder’s location as its location and a Thing Type randomly selected from among all Thing Types with a classification of mineral not at that location.

In the rule “Application “,  change “on that thing” to “effect on that thing’s thing type”.

To “Equipment”, add:-

Some Items are limited to a certain number in the supply crate, and are tracked in the list entry for that Item as “Limited (X).”, where X is the number remaining. When a Pathfinder uses an action in this rule to start carrying a Limited Item, they must reduce its number remaining. If a Limited Item has zero remaining, Pathfinders cannot start carrying it.

Add a bullet point after the fourth in “Application”:-

* If the Equipment applied is Single-Use, cease carrying one instance of it.

If the rule “Crafting” exists, add to the end of it:-

If any of the Tools are Single-Use, the Pathfinder also stops carrying them, as if they were Materials.

Add “Limited (12).” to Gamma Pistol.
Add “Limited (3).” to Bone Scanner.
Add “Limited (12). Single-Use.” to Canister of Glarsh.
Add “Limited (6). Single-Use.” to Rocket Fuel.

Then reduce the number remaining for those three items of Equipment by 1 for each copy currently carried by Pathfinders (to a minimum of zero).

If the proposal “May King” failed, this proposal has no further effect.

In “Effects”, replace “If the Thing being Applied is a Mineral, it becomes an Ingot.” with:-

If this Thing is a Mineral, the Applying Pathfinder may gain 1 Ingot.

Move Ingot and Rappel Cords from the list of Things to the list of Equipment. Remove “Anchored.” from Rappel Cords.

In “Equipment”, replace “A Player carrying fewer than two pieces of Equipment may start carrying any piece of Equipment from the above list, at any time.” with:-

A Player carrying fewer than three pieces of Equipment may start carrying any piece of Regulation Equipment, at any time.

Add “Regulation.” after the name of Gamma Pistol, Wrench, Bone Scanner, Magnetic Gloves, Fire Extinguisher, Rocket Fuel and Canister of Glarsh, in the list of Equipment.

Reword the “Crafting” rule to:-

Some Equipment can be Crafted in the field by Pathfinders. Each Craft recipe has Materials, Tools and Output, listed below as “Materials + Tools = Output”:

* Ingot + Wrench and Magnetic Gloves = Rappel Cords

A Pathfinder who is carrying both the Materials and Tools for a Craft recipe can spend 1 Stamina to stop carrying its Materials and start carrying its Output.

If “Location, Location, Location” enacted, replace the string “Things have a Location, and default to the Haniver.” in “Animals, Vegetables and Minerals” with:-

Things have a Location, and default to the Cortex Desert.

Turning May King’s crafted objects into Equipment, if it passes. Also giving everyone a third equipment slot and unifying the two different starting locations of “The Haniver” and “The Cortex Desert”.

Whenever a Pathfinder is called upon to create a new Thing, they must do so by carrying out the following atomic action:

  • Give it a name, which must take he format of: the word Unknown, followed by either Animal, Vegetable or Mineral, at random. If the Thing was created in a specific Location then the name should also include the word from the EFF Wordlist randomly selected to be in the name of that Location, with a suffix denoting place of origin (such as (-ian or -ese))

At all times (including the creation of a new Location and the renaming of Locations), no two Locations may share the same name.

Even if they are only flavor text, having two Locations share the same name can be a source of confusion, shenanigans, and loopholes (particularly in favor of the Computer who would have unlimited power to change them).

Proposal: Location, Location, Location

Adminned at 14 Aug 2020 16:33:46 UTC

If Proposal: Low-Key Sun was not enacted then this proposal does nothing.

Reword the rule Locations as follows:

The Pathfinders have landed on a region of New Ganymede that they have named the Cortex Desert on the Haniverian Continent. There are a number of Locations within the Haniversian Continent; these are tracked on the Mission Control wiki page. The Mission Control wiki page also contains a visual depiction of the continent.

A Location has the following characteristics:
* An index number, which is the lowest positive integer that has not been used by another Location
* A topology, which is randomly selected from the following: forest, rainforest, savannah, grassland, lake, desert, hills, mountains, taiga, glacier
* A name, which is randomly selected from the EFF Wordlist (re-rolling if the result is currently in use in the name of another Location) followed by the location’s Topology
* Any number of Links to other Locations. When a Location is created, it is Linked to the Location of the Pathfinder who created it. Whenever a Link is created it may be assumed that it is created reciprocally (i.e. that a link from A to B also creates a link from B to A).

Each Pathfinder has a Location, which defaults to The Cortex Desert.

Pathfinders may make Location Actions. Available movement actions are as follows:

* Create a new location: roll DICE8. If the result is higher than the number of Locations that are Linked to their current Location, then they may spend 2 Stamina to create a new Location with the characteristics set out above
* Create a new Link from their current Location to a Location that is no more than one Location removed from it by spending 1 Stamina

Whenever a Pathfinder successfully completes a Location Action they should then download, amend and re-upload the map on the Mission Control page to show the location and links of the new Location.

A Pathfinder can Travel by paying 1 Stamina, changing their Location to another which is Linked to their current Location.

The Computer can change a Location’s name at any time by generating a new one as per the criteria above.

Create a Location called the Cortex Desert, with an Index Number of 1 and a Topology of Desert. Set the map to this image as per its form at its upload at 16:30 UTC, 13 August 2020.

Productive: If the Thing being Applied is a Mineral, it becomes an Ingot.

Add to “Animals, Vegetables and Minerals”:

Things have a Location, and default to the Haniver. A Pathfinder can Drag a Thing at their Location by spending 2 Stamina and moving that Thing and themselves to a Linked Location.

Anchored Things cannot be Dragged.

Add to the list of Things:

- Ingot: A certain amount of processed metal. Artificial. Mineral.
- Rappel Cords: A system of cables and zip lines to facilitate transport. A Pathfinder Travelling or Dragging to or from a Location with Rappel Cords doesn’t need to spend Stamina to do so. Artificial. Mineral. Anchored.

Create a new rule called “Crafting”:

A Pathfinder can Craft if they have the right Things at their Location and right Equipment carried for it and spend 1 Stamina. Doing so removes the required Things at their Location, and creates the crafted Thing at their Location.

The following are the possible Crafts, which are listed as (List of required Things / Equipment / Name of the Thing created:

- Ingot / Wrench and Magnetic Gloves / Rappel Cords

Giving us a bit of a cool reason to collect stuff at all: to make stuff as we colonize and expand our horizons at this promising planet.

Mentor Reminder

A reminder that we haven’t had anyone formally take up a Mentorship role since the new tracking system enacted last dynasty, and we still have a new player, Raven1207, who’s asked to be Mentored without anybody being assignable. Is anyone willing to become a Mentor?

Proposal: Low-key Sun

Reached quorum 10 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 14 Aug 2020 08:30:44 UTC

Create a new rule called “Stamina”:

Stamina is tracked at the “Mission Log”. Pathfinders have an amount of Stamina, defaulting to 7 and with a maximum of 10. As a weekly communal action, a Pathfinder may Sunrise, granting each Pathfinder 7 Stamina (or setting it to 10, if it’s at more than 3).

Create a new rule called “Location”:

Locations and Links are tracked at the “Mission Log”. Locations have Links to each other. Locations with a Link to each other are Linked Locations.

Pathfinders are at a Location, defaulting to The Haniver. A Pathfinder may Explore by spending 2 Stamina.

Exploring is the following Atomic Action:
- Create a new Location.
- Link it to your current Location.
- For each other Location aside from the new one and your current one, roll a DICE(Number of Locations). If it gets a result of 1, the new Location is Linked to that Location.
- Give the new Location a name - these names are always flavor text.

A Pathfinder can Travel by paying 1 Stamina, changing their Location to another which is Linked to their current Location.

The Computer can change a Location’s name at any time

Proposal: Stand Back, I’m Going To Try Science

Reached quorum, 10-0. Enacted early by Josh and again by Kevan.

Adminned at 14 Aug 2020 08:28:03 UTC

Enact a subrule to “Equipment” called “Effects”:-

Jovian technology is largely untested in this part of the galaxy. Each piece of Equipment has a single defined Effect against each Thing, defaulting to “Unknown”, and tracked in the Equipment rule (where Unknown effects are implicit and should not be noted).

Valid Effects (and their Consequences, if any) are:-

* Unknown.
* Harmless.
* Annoying.
* Damaging.
* Deadly.
* Restorative.
* Productive.

If something would become Annoying to a Mineral, it instead becomes Harmless to it.

Enact another subrule to “Equipment” called “Application”:-

As a weekly action, a Pathfinder may take the following atomic action, known as “Applying”:-

* Choose a piece of Equipment from among those they are carrying, and a Thing
* If the Equipment’s effect on that Thing is not Unknown, skip the next two steps
* Randomly select an Effect (excluding “Unknown”), naming the Equipment and the Thing in the die roll comment
* Update the Equipment rule to list the effect of that Equipment on that Thing
* Apply the Consequence (if any) of that Effect
* Post a blog entry summarising what just happened

So the basic game idea is that progress is made through risky experimentation: the only way to find out what happens if you spray vertorite with a fire extinguisher is to grab a fire extinguisher from the supply crate, and go and try it. When you’ve demonstrated it to the group, everyone else will be able to repeat that to get the same effect (or possibly to step back from your smoking moonboots and never do it again).

Actual consequences are left as placeholders, and the Application action a bland weekly one, until we have more gamestate to manipulate.

Proposal: Maslow’s Phaser

Reaches quorum, 10-0. Enacted early by Josh and then again by Kevan.

Adminned at 14 Aug 2020 08:27:33 UTC

Enact a new rule, “Equipment”:-

The types of Equipment brought on this mission, and their known effects on the Things of this planet, are as follows:-

* Gamma Pistol. Harmless when applied to Vertorite.
* Wrench.
* Bone Scanner.
* Magnetic Gloves.
* Fire Extinguisher.
* Rocket Fuel.
* Canister of Glarsh.

Pathfinders may carry up to two pieces of Equipment, and default to carrying none. The Equipment they carry is tracked in the [[Mission Log]] wiki page. A Player carrying fewer than two pieces of Equipment may start carrying any piece of Equipment from the above list, at any time.

Enact a new rule, “Animals, Vegetables and Minerals”:-

Numerous Things exist on this planet, each of which is either an Animal, Vegetable or Mineral. Those discovered so far are:-

* Deltarite. A powdery orange Mineral.
* Sudorite. A faintly glowing silver Mineral.
* Vertorite. A glittering dark grey Mineral.

Ascension Address: New Ganymede

Sunrise on an unexplored planet. A cloud of metallic dust shimmers into the clear, orange sky as the ISV Jenny Haniver pivots and touches down beside a towering outcrop of dark grey rock. As the ship’s landing legs lock into place, solar panels begin to unfurl in the morning sun, recharging essential circuits for the long journey back to the Jovian core system.

Raising their gloved hands against the sun’s glare, the Pathfinder crew of the Haniver make their way down the landing ramp, out into the dust. The first of the group peers intently at a handheld device with a small, spinning wheel, while two others drag a heavy crate of supplies into the shade and detach its locking bolts. “Computational wheel scans indicate this area should be relatively rich in subsurface sudorite and deltarite,” says the lead Pathfinder over the open comms channel, “and despite the plant cover, these readings suggest that any life on the planet is statistically unlikely to—”

All visors suddenly tilt up at a sharp crack of sound and light from the rocks nearby. After a beat, they turn to a lower-ranking Pathfinder still standing at the airlock, who lowers their standard-issue stun pistol with an embarrassed shrug. “I thought I saw something.”

“That’s vertorite.” says the Pathfinder with the wheel, stepping up to the dark rock to run a gloved finger across the black smudge on its surface. “Looks like our weapons don’t affect it.” They tap a button on the wheeled device, and a purple square shimmers to grey.

Replace “Gambler” with “Pathfinder” and “Emperor” with “Computer”, throughout the ruleset.

Loose inspirations for the setting and base mechanics are the 2016 video game No Man’s Sky, and the 1979 boardgame The Awful Green Things From Outer Space.

Story Post: New mentorship

I am appointing myself as Bais’ mentor.

New Player Introduction

Hi all, I’m Bais (rhymes with rice and nice);  I’ve learned about BlogNomic a few weeks ago and have been lurking ever since, patiently waiting for the end of this (Meta)Dynasty and the beginning of a new one.  I’d like to join in as a new player, and would like to have a mentor assigned.

“Hello Mrs BlogNomic, can Bais come in and play?”

Declaration of Victory: Pascal’s Rake

Popular 8-0 after 12 hours with no against votes. Enacted by Derrick

Adminned at 13 Aug 2020 00:14:43 UTC

As per the roll on Fermat’s Wager, the final die roll of 79 means that I have achieved victory in this game.

I realise now that I missed an opportunity to add a double-zero house edge Metadynasty to that final spin.

Proposal: Fermat’s Wager [Victory]

Reached quorum 6 votes to 2, with 1 DEF. Enacted by Kevan. With a roll of 79, Kevan achieves victory.

Adminned at 12 Aug 2020 12:09:01 UTC

The enacting admin shall roll a single DICE100:

  • On a result of 1-41, the Gambler named Pokes has achieved victory;
  • on 42-82, the Gambler named Kevan has achieved victory;
  • on 83-92, the Gambler named Jumble has achieved victory;
  • on 93-94 the Gambler named Cuddlebeam has achieved victory;
  • on 95-96 the Gambler named derrick has achieved victory;
  • on 97-98 the Gambler named Josh has achieved victory;
  • on 99-100 the Gambler named Zyborg has achieved victory.

Variation on the plan discussed in Another Way, being statistically equivalent to doling out further Plaques at random among the active players (excluding those who have taken little or no action in the game).

Proposal: Another Way?

Self-killed. Failed by Kevan

Adminned at 12 Aug 2020 12:07:32 UTC

Add a plaque to a random Gambler.  Repeat this until a Gambler has 3 Plaques.

My proposal for a quick finish.

Proposal: Finale

Self-killed. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 12 Aug 2020 12:07:04 UTC

Randomly add a plaque to either pokes or kevan.

This Dynasty is four months old.

Proposal: The Last Lap

Self-killed. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 11 Aug 2020 16:26:44 UTC

Append the following to “Annoyingness”:

Gamblers that have two or more Plaques cannot Distract or become the target of Distractions.

Another attempt at locking down the game somewhat.

Call for Mentors

We’re now formally tracking players who are willing to be Mentors at https://wiki.blognomic.com/index.php?title=Mentorships (and I realise belatedly that we should have allowed idle players to add their names to it as well). If anybody is willing in general to Mentor new players, please add your name to the list.

Proposal: Kingbreaker

Fewer than a quorum not voting against. Failed 1 FOR to 6 AGAINST with 1 DEF, by Kevan.

Adminned at 11 Aug 2020 16:26:17 UTC

To the rule “Annoyingness”, add:-

If two or more Gamblers have two plaques, then the game is Hushed and Gamblers may not take any of the actions described in this rule.

After Cuddlebeam crashed headlong into a waiter while failing to put me off my game and give Pokes the win, let’s play the (potentially) final round out straight.

Proposal: A Fumbled Chip

Self-killed. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 11 Aug 2020 16:20:17 UTC

Add a new bullet point after the first in “Wagers”:-

* For each Gambler who, at the start of this atomic action, had a non-blank Wager identical to the Wager of a Gambler with a higher or equal Focus, set the first Segment of that first Gambler’s Wager to be a random other Segment on the Wheel

Breaking up the stalemate of copying other wagers exactly. (If we just say “can’t copy wagers” it becomes an unfair game of fastest-trigger-first.)

Call for Judgment: Rollback Rollback

Reached quorum 7 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 10 Aug 2020 08:21:32 UTC

Consider neither of these two wiki edits to have been made: 1 and 2

The latest version of MediaWiki has (probably just for admins) a “rollback” button next to on every link on the recent changes, which reverts it immediately and without confirmation when clicked, and which I’d never noticed before. I tapped one such link by mistake while scrolling on my phone just now.

(If anyone else is getting these, there’s a “Show a confirmation prompt when clicking on a rollback link” setting on the Preferences page, defaulting to unticked.)

I just realized this dynasty has been around since April…...

Proposal: Shaft Update

Fewer than a quorum not voting against. Failed 1 vote to 6 by Kevan.

Adminned at 10 Aug 2020 08:22:06 UTC

Change Shaft’s Payout to “Gain Points equaled to the square root of the sum of the amount Annoyingness the Gambler has plus 1 rounded down”

Proposal: Mentor Mapping [Appendix]

Reached quorum 7 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 10 Aug 2020 08:13:44 UTC

To the end of the rule “Mentors”, add:-

Gamblers who are willing to act as a Mentor are listed on the [[Mentorships]] wiki page. A Gambler may add or remove their own name from this list at any time.

The Mentors rule refers to players who have “indicated their willingness to act as a mentor”, with no formal way of tracking that - I’m not sure who has indicated this, in the past. Let’s track it.

Relatedly, Raven1207 has now agreed through private message to be assigned a Mentor. I already raised this on the Slack Mentor channel, but if anybody wants to informally indicate willingness to be a Mentor while this proposal is pending, they can be assigned.

Proposal: Polling Booth

Timed out / quorumed 6 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 10 Aug 2020 08:06:49 UTC

Change Majority’s Payout to “Gain points equal to quorum, if a quorum of Gamblers with non-blank Wagers have Majority in their Wager.”

Hopefully it might actually work this time.

Proposal: 11213 acquire

Adminned at 09 Aug 2020 18:40:46 UTC

Add a new Segment, not on the Wheel, with a name of “Acquire”, a Payout of “Gain 5 Points if nobody has more Acquire Segments in their Wager than you”

Timed out 2 votes to 1. Failed by Kevan.

Proposal: The Unnameables [Appendix]

Reached quorum 6 votes to 1. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 08 Aug 2020 13:59:30 UTC

In “Names”, replace “If a rule would ever have no name, it is instead named “Unnamed Rule”.” with:-

If a rule would ever have no name, it is instead given the name of the proposal that created it, or (if this is not possible) the name “Unnamed Rule”.

Replace “The names of rules are not themselves rule text and have no effect other than being rule names.” with:-

The names of rules are flavour text.

To the end of “Rules and Proposals”, add a bullet:-

* If a dynastic rule has no text and no subrules, any Gambler may delete it from the ruleset.

Move the text of “Unnamed Rule” (the one beginning “As a Daily Action, a Gambler with the least amount of Points”) to the end of “Annoyingness”.

Tidying up how we handle unnamed rules, and adding (since it comes up sometimes) that an entirely empty rule can be repealed.

Proposal: Annoyingness Bonus

Fewer than a quorum not voting against. Failed 1 vote to 5 by Kevan.

Adminned at 07 Aug 2020 15:48:23 UTC

Passively, each Gambler with Annoyingness has X number of points (Where “X” is the number of other Gamblers with at least 1 Annoyingness)

Proposal: Think Positive

Fewer than a quorum not voting against. Failed 1 FOR to 5 AGAINST with 1 DEF, by Kevan.

Adminned at 07 Aug 2020 14:23:20 UTC

You can never go below 0 from this point when with the points on the Gambler’s table. Additionally, if you were below 0 before this proposal, then it would be changed to 0. And to prevent any clashes, if you were to lose more points than you have that would have resulted in being in the negatives would instead make your score 0.

So like if you have 2 points and you were to lose 5, then your score would change to 0 instead of -3.

Proposal: Free Rebuys

Self-killed. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 07 Aug 2020 08:36:51 UTC

In “Wagers”, after “Prime a random Spare Segment”, add a new bulletpoint:

Increase everyone’s points by 5

Another attempt to speed up the game.

Proposal: Mentor Identifier [Appendix]

Reached quorum 7 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 07 Aug 2020 08:31:32 UTC

In “Mentors”, replace “Whenever a new Mentorship is established, the Emperor should announce it in a blog post.” with:-

The Gamblers and starting dates of all active Mentorships are tracked on the [[Mentorships]] wiki page, and whenever a new Mentorship is established, the Emperor should announce it in a blog post.

To “Mentors”, add:-

If there is no Emperor, any Gambler who has been active in at least three previous dynasties may act as Emperor for the purposes of this rule.

Replace “The Mentorship should last for at least four weeks or until the next Ascension Address, whichever occurs latest. It can continue for longer but” with:-

The Mentorship lasts for four weeks or until the next Ascension Address, whichever occurs latest. It can continue informally for longer but

Fixing two problems with the mentoring system: that we can’t legally assign Mentors when there’s no Emperor, and that we aren’t tracking Mentorships anywhere. I’ll also make their endpoint more of a statement of fact, with any continuation being explicitly informal.

Raven1207 - do you want a formal Mentor assigned? You were asked when you joined, but didn’t reply.

Proposal: Double Down

Self-killed. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 06 Aug 2020 14:48:13 UTC

Reword “High-Stakes Table” to

A Gambler can spend 3 annoyingness to visit the High-Stakes Table. This is tracked by appending an exclamation mark immediately after their Wager.

In “Wagers”, change

Each Gambler has a Wager, which is an unordered list of Segments of no more than five segments, and defaults to empty.

to

Each Gambler has a Wager, which is an unordered list of Segments of no more than five segments if they are not visiting the High-Stakes Table, and ten otherwise.  The default wager is an empty list.

and change

If any Gamblers are visiting the High-Stakes Table, select a random Segment that is not on the Wheel to be the Orphelin; then, if any Gambler has the Orphelin in their Wager, give each such Gambler (excluding those who have no Plaques) as many Plaques as there are Segments on the Wheel, and apply the Global Effect of the Orphelin. Then remove 1 Plaque from each Gambler who has at least one Plaque and is visiting the High-Stakes Table.

to

If anyone is visiting the High-Stakes Table, blank their wager and set them to not visiting the High-Stakes Table.

Because nobody seems to be using the HST.

Proposal: Taste the rainbow

Illegal third proposal. Josh

Adminned at 05 Aug 2020 09:05:42 UTC

Everyone is randomly divided into evenly distributed into different “groups” or “teams” that is represented by a different color. If someone on your “groups” or “teams” gains points, you gain half of that amount rounded down.

Proposal: Revolution Revolution

Adminned at 06 Aug 2020 14:47:25 UTC

Create the following rule called “Spiral Spin”:

A Spiral Spin is an Atomic Action, defined by the following steps:

- Spin The Wheel
- Multiply the points of each Gambler by 10.

If no Gambler has changed their own Wager, changed their own Hustle, or Spun or otherwise modified the Wheel within the past 12 hours, a Gambler may perform a Spiral Spin.

Speeding this up a bit now that I know how it works.

Proposal: Monkey Business

Timed out 1 vote to 3 with 1 DEF. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 06 Aug 2020 14:46:54 UTC

Each player is given a Banana Gun. The Banana Gun has 3 charges. When using the Banana Gun, the Banana Gun loses a charge. Banana Gun can be used steal 2 Annoyingness from a player (if they have any) or gain 5 points. Players can gain a charge for the Banana Gun for every 20 points you gain from this point on. (In other words, you can gain a maximum of 15 points from the gun when receiving it but you need to get 5 more points to gain a charge. This also makes it where players don’t just use up all their charges and then can use it again.)

Proposal: The Hustle Hustle

Reached quorum 9 votes to 1. Enacted by Kevan.

Closing the endless-Hustle loophole.
