[Ascension Address] Just kidding!

As I said before, I pass on the Mantle to Kevan, so that he can do his dynasty with a new set of rules. =P

I’ll be waiting for the real Ascension Address. =)

P.S: Sorry for the fact that I spelled AA a lot of different ways. =P

Reactivated

How could I resist the opportunity to get betrayed by Josh? I’d like to be unidled, please, if that’s possible in the wake of Roujo’s DoV.  (Man, it’s been a while.)

Declaration of Victory: Yet Another Five Gold Medals

After 12 hours, and with a quorum of FOR votes, with the FOR vote of the Director of Operations and no AGAINST votes, this DoV is enacted, and thus was the shortest dynasty record beaten. - lilomar

Adminned at 30 Sep 2010 17:09:52 UTC

From Rule 2.2 (Competitions), which hasn’t been repealed with the beginning of this dynasty, “Befuddleds can only [create a competition] if they have prior approval from a proposal or a different rule”. Per Kevan’s interpretation, which was approved by the other players, I can do the very same thing! I know the Ruleset mentions Befuddleds instead of Agents, but that should have been changed with the Ascencion Adress.

I can’t update the GNDT because the columns are missing, but I should be able to as the rules didn’t change. =P

Having won five Gold Medals from the five Competitions I created, I declare victory. If this Ascencion Adress passes, I intend to give the mantle to Kevan because, well, I didn’t invent much. =P I just wanted to see if I could win a dynasty that quickly. (And win one at all, for that matter)

Proposal: Press to Activate

Reached quorum 8 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan.

Enact a new Rule, “The Red Phone”:-

The Director of Operations may be Telephoned by emailing .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address). The Director of Operations may also be referred to as “D-Ops”.

Enact a new Rule, “Dossier”:-

Each Agent may have a Codename and a Description. An Agent’s Description is tracked in the GNDT; all other details are tracked privately by D-Ops.

An Agent’s description includes a Height (measured in feet and inches, between 5’0” and 6’4”), a Nationality (American, British, French, East German, Russian or West German) and a Cover Job (Academic, Banker, Courier, Diplomat, Journalist or Tourist).

Enact a new Rule, “Briefing”:-

Any Agent who does not have a Codename may Telephone the Director of Operations to request an identity.

Upon receiving such a request, D-Ops may reply, giving an interim Codename (of D-Ops’ choice) and an interim Description (generated at random from all possible Descriptions, excluding those already held by other Agents).

The Agent who receives such a reply may update the GNDT once to change their Description to this interim Description; upon doing so, the Agent’s Codename is set to the interim Codename.

Basic groundwork for a spy-themed dynasty, with what I hope is a straightforward mechanic for secure transmission of codenames, without having to faff around confirming email addresses.

Ascension Address: Morning Routine

A cold autumn morning in the tail end of the 1970s, and you tune your shortwave radio to the usual frequency, resting it on the chipped kitchen windowsill to lessen the static. As you clear away paperwork and prepare an early breakfast, the ancient, recorded voice drifts over you, looping through its staccato sequence of numbers. You pause and focus as 6:43am approaches, and now, for the first time since you were stationed here, the words begin to change.

Remaining calm, you pick up a pen and sketch the new number on the back of a takeaway menu. As the voice returns blankly to its usual loop, you rifle through a cutlery drawer and draw out a slim notebook. Among the tightly-ranked lines of code numbers, you find the matching five digits.

You have been activated.

Throughout the ruleset, replace “Befuddled” with “Agent”, and “Riddler” with “Director of Operations”.

Declaration of Victory: Five Gold Medals

Reached quorum with 6 votes in favour.

Adminned at 30 Sep 2010 01:59:00 UTC

From Rule 2.2 (Competitions), “Befuddleds can only [create a competition] if they have prior approval from a proposal or a different rule”. Since this does not say “enacted proposal”, it is my interpretation that any proposal may grant this “approval”, even one which is still pending.

Having won five Gold Medals from the preceding five Competitions, I declare victory.

If a Befuddled (the Trickster) has at least 30 more IQ than another Befuddled (the Victim), the Trickster can transfer 20 IQ to the Victim to transfer a Silver Medal from the Victim to the Trickster.

[Competition] OK, if I can’t trust you to keep answers secret, I’ll set the questions

(Not a proto.)

The Riddler will post three puzzles as comments to this post; one soon after this competition is posted, and the other two on separate occasions in the future.

In order to encourage Befuddled to join sooner rather than later if they join at all, when a Befuddled makes their first comment on this post, anyone may transfer 1 IQ from him to the Riddler for every full 24 hours this competition had existed when that Befuddled made the comment.

Befuddleds, other than the Riddler, may submit solutions to the puzzles the Riddler posts here via a) sending their purported solution privately to the Riddler via BlogNomic PM, IRC PM, or email at callforjudgement!yahoo.co.uk (replacing the ! with @); and b) commenting to this post with the fact that they submitted a solution, but not the solution itself. After a correct solution is submitted by a Befuddled on a given puzzle, further submissions by that Befuddled on that puzzle are ignored. When a correct solution is submitted this way, the Riddler will transfer IQ from himself to the Befuddled in question according to the following schedule: 3 IQ for a correct solution the first puzzle that Befuddled solved; 5 IQ for a correct solution to the second puzzle that Befuddled solved; 7 IQ for a correct solution to the third puzzle that Befuddled solved. Wrong answers are penalised via transferring 3 IQ in the other direction, from the Befuddled to the Riddler. The Riddler will post comments to this thread as to whether submitted solutions were correct or not (again, without revealing them).

Additionally, for each of the three puzzles, 5 IQ may be transferred from the Riddler to the first Befuddled to submit a correct solution to that puzzle. When either 4 days have elapsed with some Befuddled (other than the Riddler) having solved all three puzzles, or 9 days have elapsed with no correct solutions to any of the puzzles being submitted, then the Riddler can transfer 1 IQ from each Befuddled to himself for each puzzle that Befuddled did not solve; then if some Befuddled (other than the Riddler) solved all three puzzles, the first Befuddled to do so is awarded a Medal, and otherwise, the Riddler is awarded a Medal.

(Note: I already have all three puzzles I plan to set. I submitted the puzzles, but not the solutions, to a puzzle compilation (and two of them were accepted), so I’d appreciate it if you don’t reveal the solutions beyond BlogNomic, although obviously I can’t enforce this. I believe the puzzles to be rather difficult, except perhaps the first, but hopefully within range of what at least some Befuddleds should be able to manage. Feel free to cooperate on the puzzles if you wish.)

Proposal: Runners Up

Times out 4-1-2 -Darth

Adminned at 25 Sep 2010 07:34:16 UTC

Reword Rule 2.3 (Medals) to:-

Each Befuddled has an amount of Gold and Silver Medals, a number defaulting to zero of each, tracked in the GNDT. To “award a Gold Medal” to a Befuddled is to increase that Befuddled’s Gold Medals by 1; to “award a Silver Medal” is to increase their Silver Medals by 1. If the colour of a Medal is not specified, it is assumed to be Gold.

Replace the final paragraph of Rule 2.2 with:-

A Competition may define criteria by which a Befuddled may be awarded Gold and/or Silver Medals. When a Befuddled is awarded a Medal by a Competition, that Competition expires and is no longer considered to be a Competition. (If more than one Befuddled would be awarded a Gold Medal at the same time by the same Competition, whoever is processing the award should roll DICEX, where X is the number of such Befuddleds, and award the Gold Medal only to the Befuddled in the Yth position of an alphabetical list of such Befuddleds, where Y is the result of the die roll.)

All existing Medals awarded to Befuddled shall be replaced with Gold Medals.

Proposal: Slam dunk!

Can’t pass with 6 votes against, without a CoV. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 23 Sep 2010 07:50:45 UTC

If a competition with the following text does not exist, allow any befuddled to create it.

This competition is divided into rounds, each of which has a judge. The judge for the first round is lilomar. At the beginning of a round, the judge for that round must either post a topic or forfeit. A judge posts a topic by making a comment to this competition which contains a topic. A judge forfeits when they either make a comment to this competition stating their forfeiture, or they do not post a topic within 24 hours of becoming the judge.

After a judge has posted a topic for a round, and before they announce a winner, any befuddled, other than the judge, may make an entry, if they have not yet done so in that round, by posting a comment to this competition containing a poem which is no longer than 150 syllables, and which relates to the topic for that round.

48 hours after a topic is posted, the round ends. Once a round is over, the judge for that round should, within 24 hours, announce in the comments to this competition the winner of that round, and transfer one IQ from each befuddled who made an entry that round to the winner. If they do not do so, they forfeit. Whenever a winner is announced, they become the judge for the current round.

Whenever a judge forfeits, the previous judge (if there is one) is awarded a medal, and this competition closes. If there is no judge when a round ends, the previous judge (if there is one) is awarded a medal, and this competition closes.

Judges may choose a winner based on any criteria that they choose, but should base it on the poem submitted. What constitutes a poem is left up to the judge.

Two small fixes: judges cannot enter (meant to put that one in the first time, but forgot) and if a judge idles out, it works out the same as if they had forfeited.

[Proto-Competition] Nomic Invasion

Wooble wrote, in Agora:

If I haven’t voted yet, I vote AGAINST each proposal from 6834-6841;
without a recent referee’s report I can’t be bothered to figure out
who’s on my team, and I’m not voting FOR an interested proposal by a
non-team-member as a protest against our Honored Speaker messing up
offices to get a few Fans for eir team.

Also, I intend with 2 Senate support to begin an Emergency Session, as
we’ve been successfully invaded from Blognomic.

Obviously, the only sensible response to an accusation like that is to make it come true, and invade every other nomic out there while we’re at it.

Any Befuddled who has commented in this thread will be supplied by the Riddler, on request, with four random words (taken via the “random entry” feature on en.wiktionary.org: two in English, two in random languages with a reroll if the word randomly happens to be English); only one such request will be honoured. The goal of the contest is to introduce at least one of those words, and preferably all four, into the ruleset of some nomic. Only nomics that existed prior to 1 September 2010, and which are currently played actively by at least five players, count; the Riddler’s decision is final with respect to what is a nomic, and what its ruleset is.

If n of the words given to a Befuddled find their way into the ruleset of a nomic, then n IQ can be transferred from each Befuddled who has commented on this post, to that Befuddled, or half that amount (rounded down) if the nomic in question is Blognomic itself. (Only one nomic per Befuddled counts if multiple nomics were invaded this way, but see below).

On or after 21 October 2010, the Riddler may choose a Befuddled, other than himself, to receive a Medal, and should award the Medal to whichever Befuddled, in his opinion, did the most impressive invasion of another nomic. Befuddleds are encouraged to submit supporting evidence explaining why their invasions are particularly impressive.

[Competition] Toss the Turtle

As a comment to this Competition, any Befuddled may post a screenshot of the score screen at http://www.kongregate.com/games/Foreverkul/toss-the-turtle  (the screen which shows the distance travelled and the dollars earned) from a game of Toss the Turtle they have played themselves. The “Earned:” dollar amount displayed is that player’s Score.

At 12:00pm (GMT) on Wednesday, the Competition closes. Any time after that point, the Riddler may select the highest Score from those screenshots he considers to be genuine, and which were submitted as comments before the Competition closed. The poster of that Score’s screenshot has 3 IQ transferred from each other Befuddled who submitted a screenshot to the Competition, and is also awarded a Medal. (In the event of a tie, no IQ is transferred and a random Befuddled from those with the highest Score is awarded the Medal.)

Proposal: Stealing the Bacon

Times out 3-3 and fails. - lilomar

Adminned at 21 Sep 2010 20:12:28 UTC

Bucky may, once within 48 hours of this proposal’s enactment, create a Competition that reads as follows:

A Scoring Comment is one that either is the first Comment on this Competition or results in a transfer of IQ under this Competition.

With the exception of the first comment to this Competition, whenever a Befuddled makes a comment to this Competition, if that Befuddled was not the author of the most recent Scoring Comment, he transfers an amount of IQ from the author of the most recent Scoring Comment to himself equal to the number of previous Scoring Comments.

When no new Scoring Comment has been made in the last 48 hours, award a medal to the author of the most recent Scoring Comment.

The Riddler may wish to do the first Scoring Comment to get the ball rolling.

Story Post: [Competition] Patience Test

The first Befuddled to comment on this contest wins. Their reward is as follows:

If the first comment is made with 24 hours of the contest being posted, no prize is awarded.
If the first comment is made between one and two days after the contest is posted then the winning Befuddled may transfer 1 IQ from Josh to themselves.
If the first comment is made between two and three days after the contest is posted then the winning Befuddled may transfer 2 IQ from Josh to themselves.
If the first comment is made between three and four days after the contest is posted then the winning Befuddled may transfer 5 IQ from Josh to themselves.
If the first comment is made between four and five days after the contest is posted then the winning Befuddled may transfer 10 IQ from Josh to themselves.
If the first comment is made between five and six days after the contest is posted then the winning Befuddled may transfer 15 IQ from Josh to themselves.
If the first comment is made between six and seven days after the contest is posted then the winning Befuddled gains a medal.
If no comment is made within seven days of the contest being posted then Josh may award himself a medal and close the contest.

With the exception of the Riddler, A Befuddled with less than 20 IQ cannot comment to a Competition’s Post.  If a Befuddled has had less than 20 IQ continuously for the last 72 hours, the Riddler may transfer any amount of IQ to them as long as their new IQ value is no greater than 20.

Cutting off a potential ‘scam’ where someone with no IQ can engage in a Competition risk-free.  Also note that the Riddler’s rescue ability is optional to prevent abuse.

Upon enactment of this proposal, allow Darth Cliche to create a single Competition with the exact wording as follows:-

Whenever a Befuddled other than the Riddler creates a competition, and the proposal which allowed him to create the competition contained the exact text of that competition, 3 IQ is transferred from the Riddler to that Befuddled. When a proposal to allow a Befuddled other than the Riddler to create a competition fails, and the proposal which allowed him to create the competition contained the exact text of that competition, 3 IQ is transferred from that Befuddled to the Riddler.

One with an IQ reward rather than a Medal reward, but also having a risk involved if your proposal fails.

Proposal: The Quantity Theory of Insanity

Reaches Quorum at 60. Enacted. - lilomar

To Rule 2.1, add:-

If the total IQ of all Befuddled is less than the number of Befuddleds multiplied by 10, then any Befuddled may increase the Riddler’s IQ by 1. If the total IQ of all Befuddled is greater than the number of Befuddleds multiplied by 10, then any Befuddled may decrease the Riddler’s IQ by 1.

The zero-sum IQ thing breaks if a player goes idle. I don’t know how important it is, but this ensures that the average IQ will always remain 100, by adjusting the Riddler’s IQ to compensate.

Proposal: Three Gods

Timed out and enacted, 7-1. Josh

Adminned at 17 Sep 2010 08:10:56 UTC

Upon the enactment of this rule, the Befuddled called Josh may at any time create a new Competition, provided that the Competition consists of the following text, allowing for minor corrections and tweaks based on feedback or further rule changes:

Three Befuddled are also Gods. One is the God of Truth, one is the God of Falsehood, and one is the God of Randomness. The Gods were selected by the Competition Poster when the Competition was first posted.

Truth always speaks truly, Falsehood always speaks falsely, but whether Randomness speaks truly or falsely is a completely random matter. Your task is to determine the identities of the Gods of Truth, Falsehood and Randomness by asking three yes-no questions; each question must be put to exactly one god. Asking a Befuddled if they are a God counts as a question which the God must answer in character. If a God is asked a question that it cannot legally answer (for example, asking Truth is the answer to the question being asked is no) then they will answer with *exploded head*. Questions may be put to Gods via any medium (email, IRC, PM, questions in this thread etc) and it is the responsibility of the Gods to ensure that they answer no more than three questions from any Befuddled. A God may not ask another God a question in this competition.

Clarifications:

* It could be that some god gets asked more than one question (and hence that some god is not asked any question at all).
* What the second question is, and to which god it is put, may depend on the answer to the first question. (And of course similarly for the third question.)
* Whether Random speaks truly or not should be thought of as depending on the flip of a coin hidden in his brain: if the coin comes down heads, he speaks truly; if tails, falsely.

The first Befuddled to post a correct match of the Gods with their identities as Befuddleds in the comments to this entry wins 5 IQ from each of the Gods and the Competition poster, and one Medal. If seven days have passed from the posting of this Competition, then the Competition poster may mark it as complete by commenting as such and setting the post to closed. At this point, no Befuddled may submit an answer, and the Competition Poster and each of the Gods may take 1 IQ from each Befuddled to have asked a question, and the Competition Poster may also award himself 1 Medal. If a God goes idle before the end of the competition then it is forfeit; no-one may lose of gain IQ or Medals as a result of it.

The initial Gods will be chosen at random from the Befuddleds who vote on this proposal.

Proposal: Battle of Wits

Self-killed. Josh

Adminned at 15 Sep 2010 07:41:50 UTC

I propose that a new dynasty rule is created describing a “battle of wits” in wich the Riddler or a Befuddled who has been aproved by the Riddler to create a “battle of wits” creates an entry with the word Riddle Challange in the title and a riddle in the body of text. The Befuddled are now allowed to comment on the entry with the answer to the previous riddle and another riddle, when a riddle is solved the solver transfers, 2 times the number of previous riddles, IQ to themselves; a riddle that stands unsolved for more than two days closes the battle of wits and awards the final Befuddled’s riddle a medal.

Glopso cancels play Blognomic; Interrupted by Dwarf Fortress

I don’t find this dynasty too interesting so I request an idle, since I’m spending more time on Dwarf Fortress (best game ever) and Final Fantasy V (Also good game, playing illegal iso on illegal emulator using illegal bios file) Once I finish V though, I’ve already torrented FF VI, VII, VIII, and IX games. I’ll be back if this gets interesting.

Proposal: Proposed Competition (Paradox)

Procedurally vetoed. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 14 Sep 2010 13:17:17 UTC

Compitition description below-

The first Befuddled who, in a comment to this post, offers a logical resolution to the grandfather paradox (described below) will be awarded 1 IQ from each Befuddled entered in this compitition, 5 IQ from the creator of this compitition, and one Medal. A Beffuddled is considered entered in this compitition when they comment on this compitition using text. A comment that doesn’t contain any text will not be considered entered. Multiple entries will not be considered and the first entry of a Befuddled is all that will be considered in this compitition. If there is no resolution to this compitition within two weeks of its approval each entered Befuddled will transfer 2 IQ to the creator of this Compition.

Description of the Grandfather Paradox: A man travels back in time to before his grandfather met his grandmother and shoots his grandfather. Because his granfather is now dead, the man could not have traveled back in time. Because he didn’t travel back in time he didn’t kill his grandfather, he travels back in time. Because he traveled back in time he kills his granfather causing him not to be able to travel back in time…

Please help

I apologise for the intrusion, but how do you propose a compition? i can’t find it in the ruleset and i am not sure whether to send it to the riddler or to post it as an entry.

Proposal: To The Podium

Enacted 8-0. Josh

Adminned at 15 Sep 2010 07:39:32 UTC

To Rule 2.2 (Competition), add:-

A Competition may define criteria by which a Befuddled may be awarded a Medal. When a Befuddled is awarded a Medal by a Competition, that Competition expires and is no longer considered to be a Competition. (If more than one Befuddled would be awarded a Medal at the same time by the same Competition, whoever is processing the award should roll DICEX, where X is the number of such Befuddleds, and award the medal only to the Befuddled in the Yth position of an alphabetical list of such Befuddleds, where Y is the result of the die roll.)

Let’s say that if a Competition gives out a medal, it can only give out one, and that signifies the end of the Competition.

Proposal: Chorus of Disapproval

Timed out and enacted, 6-2. Josh

Adminned at 15 Sep 2010 07:38:19 UTC

Add a subrule to Rule 2.2, and call it “We Give Up”:-

Any Befuddled may reply to a Competition by posting a comment with a single AGAINST vote. This is known as a Disapproval, and for the purposes of Rule 2.2, this does not count as having “posted in the post”. If a Competition blog post has Disapprovals from a number of Befuddleds equal to or greater than Quorum, it no longer counts as a Competition.

Hi im new!!!

I was told by the rules to post a entry saying i am here? I’m just starting this so could someone explain this to me?

Whenever a Befuddled other than the Riddler creates a competition, and the proposal which allowed him to create the competition contained the exact text of that competition, that Befuddled gains a Medal.

Add a new Dynastic Rule to the Ruleset.  Call it “Witty Props” and give it the following text:

Whenever a Proposal is enacted, 1 IQ is transferred from the Riddler to that proposal’s author.
Whenever a proposal is enacted with at most one AGAINST vote on it, an additional 1 IQ is transferred from the Riddler to that proposal’s author.

[Competition]: Bribery Contest

Any Befuddled may transfer any positive amount of IQ to Bucky at any time, by announcing the transfer in a comment to this post.  (This is subject to the restrictions in the Rule “Competitions” e.g. they cannot transfer more than 20 IQ in a week)

At the start of each week (i.e. the beginning of Monday), if nobody has been awarded a Medal by this Competition in the last 8 days, the Befuddled who transferred the most IQ to Bucky since the last time this Competition awarded a Medal (or since this Competition’s creation if it has not yet awarded a Medal) is awarded a Medal.  In case of a tie, no Medal is awarded.

[Proto-Competition] Weather Prediction

Comments to this post in the form “Guess: [17 September 2010] 31C” are considered to be Guesses; each specifies a date and a temperature (in Celsius). Guesses are ignored if they duplicate a previous non-ignored guess, if they are made later than the end of the day a week prior to the date, or if their author has already made a Guess for the same date.

After a day has ended, if the temperature in Funafuti, Tuvalu, according to the website weather.com, equals a Befuddled’s guess (the Victor), then once for each other Befuddled who made a Guess for that week, the Victor can transfer 1 IQ from that Befuddled to himself.

[Proto-Competition] Puzzle solving!

[Putting this out there to see any obvious issues, etc, before posting it. We probably need a rule to prevent people revealing answers to each other first, although it would be hard to enforce; how trustworthy are Blognomickers in general?]

A Puzzle Submission is a puzzle labelled as a Puzzle Submission that has been communicated privately to the Riddler by a Befuddled (including the Riddler himself) who has posted a comment to this post within the previous 7 days, which is accompanied by its answer, and has not been posted in this thread. (To communicate with the Riddler privately, use BlogNomic PM, IRC, or email at callforjudgement @ yahoo.co.uk.) [In other words, people who don’t keep posting here to maintain interest in this Competition drop out.]

An Answer is a purported answer to a puzzle that the Riddler posted as a comment to this thread, communicated privately to the Riddler by a Befuddled, other than the Riddler and the puzzle’s author, who has posted a comment to this post within the previous 7 days, unless the solution to the puzzle was posted as a comment to this post before the purported Answer was received. If the same contestant makes multiple Answers for the same puzzle, only the last counts. [So you can revise your Answer up until the actual answer is revealed.]

At least once a week, unless there are no Puzzle Submissions, the Riddler should post a Puzzle Submission as a comment to this thread, labelling it with its author. [So I can queue up interesting puzzles before boring ones, or prevent a glut of puzzles with the same author.]

Between 5 and 7 days after the Riddler posts a puzzle as a comment to this post, he should post its solution to the thread, together with a list of Befuddleds who submitted an Answer for that puzzle that was actually a correct solution for that puzzle, in the order those Answers were submitted. The Riddler’s determination as to whether Answers are correct is final.

Once a puzzle’s solution has been posted by the Riddler as a comment to this post, then anyone can make each of the following transfers, unless they have already been made in connection with that puzzle:

  • 10 IQ from the puzzle’s author to the Riddler if nobody solved the puzzle;
  • 2 IQ from the puzzle’s author to each Befuddled who submitted a correct Answer for it;
  • 2 IQ from each Befuddled who did not submit a correct answer for the puzzle, to its author (this may be impossible if the Befuddled has not posted a comment to this post recently), but only if at least one Befuddled submitted a correct Answer for the puzzle;
  • 10 IQ from the puzzle’s author to the Riddler if the puzzle’s author’s purported answer to the puzzle (which accompanied the submission) is not correct.

[In other words, you want to submit a puzzle that’s difficult, but that some Befuddleds will get right. This is why it’s important that a puzzle’s author doesn’t reveal its solution early; I know I won’t.]

Additionally, the Befuddled who posted the first correct answer to the puzzle can once award himself a Medal.

Any thoughts/comments/suggestions? There are almost certainly bugs in this I haven’t spotted, and it could do with some polish.

Story Post: [Competition] Fixed proposal count

Comments to this post in the form “Guess: [6-12 September 2010] 5 proposals” are considered to be Guesses; each specifies a week and a number of proposals. Guesses are ignored if they duplicate a previous non-ignored guess, if they are made later than the end of Wednesday on the week given, or if their author has already made a Guess for the same week.

After a week has ended, if the number of proposals enacted that week equals a Befuddled’s guess (the Victor), and the Victor did not self-kill any proposals during that week, then once for each other Befuddled who made a Guess for that week, the Victor can transfer 1 IQ from that Befuddled to himself.

As a weekly action, a Befuddled may add or subtract up to 2.5 to or from their BMI.

Let’s have another player statistic to pitch against the zero-sum IQ. And maybe a pie-eating contest.

Proposal: Competition

Reached quorum 9 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 07 Sep 2010 08:48:21 UTC

Create a new dynastic rule, “Apparent Intelligence”:

Each Befuddled has an IQ, a number defaulting to 100, tracked in the GNDT. To “transfer” IQ from one Befuddled to another is to reduce the first Befuddled’s by IQ that amount, and increase another Befuddled’s IQ by that amount. IQ can only be transferred as described by the rules, and cannot be changed in any other way.

Create a new dynastic rule, “Competition”:

A Competition is a sort of contest; each competition is tracked in a blog post dedicated to that Competition. The Riddler can create a Competition merely by creating a post to track it with [Competition] in the title; other Befuddleds can only do so if they have prior approval from a proposal or a different rule. A Competition must not be, or be edited into, any other sort of official post. The post tracking a Competition must describe under what circumstances it transfers IQ.

A Competition cannot force Befuddleds to do something, or prevent Befuddleds from doing something, like a rule can. (It can, however, specify circumstances in which IQ could be transferred, and those circumstances can include performing, or not performing, various actions.)

Befuddleds can transfer IQ from one Befuddled to another, but only as described by a Competition, and only when both the Befuddled transferred from and the Befuddled transferred to have posted in the post describing that Competition within the previous 14 days (i.e. by not posting in a Competition’s post, a Befuddled can avoid incurring penalties from it). Additionally, no more than 20 IQ can be transferred from any Befuddled by any Competition in any week, and no more than 20 IQ can be transferred to any Befuddled by any Competition in any week.

Ascension Address: Ascension Address: Your flight has been diverted

Scene: a Cessna 150 flying from Funafuti International Airport to Gotham City. Fourteen passengers are somehow crowded into the back of the plane, which has been customised with many bizarre additions over the years to provide extra space. A small television is sitting in the middle of the floor; a series of adverts end, showing the start of a news program.

“...and the breaking news tonight is the hijacking of a light airplane en route to Gotham City. The plane was a special one-off trip to rescue holidaymakers stranded in Funafuti by complications caused by the reversal of a wish. It currently isn’t clear precisely who the hijacker is, but it appears that they managed to take the pilot’s place before the flight started, leaving the passengers with no clue what happened, although I see some of them are starting to notice already. In other news, the mysterious box at the back of the plane contains a huge bunch of snakes, and giving a news report whilst trying to fly a plane is surprisingly difficult.”

The plane lurches badly, and screams are heard from the back, but then levels again as the news report cuts out. The screams don’t seem to abate though. Then the report briefly cuts back in.

“One of you just had to look in the box, didn’t you?”

Eventually, after an eventful five hours after which the hapless passengers finally determined that the snakes in question were not venomous, or in fact dangerous in any way, the plane lands in an unfamiliar disused airfield.

“Welcome everyone! The reason you are here: is so I can prove that I’m smarter than you, more knowledgeable than you, cleverer than you, and you’re all idiots. It shouldn’t be hard; some of those snakes are smarter than you by the sound of it. This will be about… puzzles, quizzes, challenges, that sort of competition. And you’d better set some for me, and each other, too. Or how else could I prove myself better?”

Proposal: Burning off alcohol

Add the following paragraph to the end of rule 2.2 “Drunkenness”:

As a weekly action, an Earthling can reduce their AC by 2, as long as their AC is 2 or more.

At the moment, Humans have a huge advantage over Robots: Humans can control their AC via using Wine, Robots can’t. This would add a distinction between Humans (who get very fine control over their AC with things like bottles of wine, and thus can switch between drunk and sober pretty much at will using this rule) and Robots (for whom this action is pretty much a point of no return, because their AC reduces every week and they have no way to improve it by more than 1 point per week, and thus have very little control over their AC because they’d be locked into inebriation after doing this twice).

Planet Excess

Making a post of this so that Glopso is aware that I’ve reverted the second action, but as I see it, Planet Express’s action of “switch to research, make learning materials, switch to exploration, make study pass, switch back to delivery” in the wiki history was illegal, since the ruleset at the time said “As a weekly action, any Earthling may take a Business Action on behalf of a Corporation that they are a member of, if no member of that Corporation has taken a Business Action for that Corporation earlier in the current week.” - both of these actions were Business Actions, so the second one couldn’t have been taken legally. Have I missed something?
