Story Post: Inspecting Sinq

I inspect Sinq.

Story Post: Inspecting Sphinx

I inspect Sphinx.

Detective Press

People who don’t have the (really really superb) Blognomic Tampermonkey script might’ve missed it (because they’re Emperor comments on far back stuff on the blog), so I shall don a journalistic hat to inform the latest findings:

- Card has inspected Orkboi, revealing that they had an Artefact in their possession. Then, Orkboi has been revealed to be Cultist https://blognomic.com/archive/inpection#comments
- I got both Pokes and Kevan, revealing that they had an Artefact each. Then, Pokes has been revealed to be a Spy https://blognomic.com/archive/inspecting_pokes, and Kevan a Cultist https://blognomic.com/archive/inspecting_kevan#comments

For your further detective convenience, here is the latest background report (June 20th): https://blognomic.com/archive/hr_report#comments
And the other background report (June 13th): https://blognomic.com/archive/current_roster_of_participants#comments

Take into account conspiracies as well (there have been 3 successful ones in between those two reports).

That’s all.

Hot off the presses.

Proposal: Using feet is SO last dimension

Reaches quorum against, 1-6. Failed by pokes.

Adminned at 02 Jul 2017 16:01:44 UTC

Add to “Madness”:

A HIDEOUSLY TRANSFORMED Explorer can’t change Locations except via the following: A HIDEOUSLY TRANSFORMED Explorer can pay 2 Supplies to change their “Location” value to any other legal Location value.

Proposal: Two Poles.

Reaches quorum 6-0. The changes have already been implemented by Kevan, so I, pokes, am only setting the flag on this entry to enacted.

Adminned at 02 Jul 2017 16:00:34 UTC

Add to “Camps”:

The Base Camp and the Mountain Camp are Hexproof - Explorers within it are always Hexproof, until they leave it.

Thursday, June 29, 2017

Proposal: Repercussions

Reaches quorum 7-1, although in enacting it I personally can do nothing. The GNDT is now incorrect at the time I write this, and Sphinx must fix it. Enacted by pokes.

Adminned at 02 Jul 2017 15:55:18 UTC

Each Explorer gains Insanity equal to twice the number of artefacts they are carrying.
Each Explorer gains Insanity equal to twice the number of artefacts they have destroyed.

Make those potatoes even hotter.

Story Post: Inpection

I inspect orkboi.

Former Proposal: Clean up after yourself

In “Combos”, change ‘may’ to ‘should’ in “The gamestate may be changed to reflect the results of the Combo once all of the actions are completed.”

Proposal: History is Bunk

Reached quorum 7 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 30 Jun 2017 08:06:56 UTC

Replace “The Expedition Leader may resolve any Inspections in the order they were posted by posting the resolution of the Inspection as a comment on the Inspection.” with:-

The Expedition Leader may resolve the oldest unresolved Inspection post by posting the resolution of the Inspection as a comment on the post. (If an Inspection post has been deleted, it is no longer an Inspection post.)

Explicit clarification of previously deleted bunk inspection posts, given that Sphinx has said on Slack they’re unsure how to process this.

Proposal: UNO!, Check!, etc

Self-killed. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 30 Jun 2017 08:05:49 UTC

Amend “If a Cultist has a number of Artefacts equal to a quorum of Cultists, and is at the Mountain Camp, and is not at Gunpoint, then that Cultist has achieved victory.” to

If a Cultist has a number of Artefacts equal to a quorum of Cultists, and is at the Mountain Camp, and is not at Gunpoint, that Cultist can open a GATE for themselves.

If a GATE for a certain Cultist has been open for 24 hours, that Cultist can use it to ascend to a higher dimension and achieve Victory. A GATE is removed (closed, destroyed) if its Cultist is held at Gunpoint or they are no longer at the Mountain Camp, as they will lose their focus and connection with the higher dimensions to sustain the GATE.

It’s too easy to blitz and reach the mountain all in one go with a Combo. The gunpointing and being at the mountain are all very superfluous as drawbacks. This makes them relevant.

Proposal: [Appendix] 15 Minutes

Self-killed. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 30 Jun 2017 08:05:18 UTC

Add after “(...) post, if they have been posted for more than fifteen minutes.”:

An official post can be deleted by its author during that 15 minute window as well. The action of deleting a post according to the explicit instructions of a rule removes from gameplay consideration the act of it having been posted at all in the first place, or it (the post being deleted) even existing, at any moment in time.

15 minutes of leniency should be alright imo.

Proposal: Taking a Break

Reached quorum 6 votes to 1. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 29 Jun 2017 16:41:46 UTC

Enact a new rule, “Eternal Torment”:-

The Explorer named Cuddlebeam may not make Combo posts or Calls for Judgment.

Story Post: Combo: Trying a thing.

1 I submit a comment with the content of “I vote FOR for” to the proposal “Lifting a Finger [Appendix]”: (Lifting a Finger [Appendix] is unchanged -> Lifting a Finger [Appendix] has an EVC of FOR made by me)
2 I submit a comment with the content of “I vote AGAINST against”  to the proposal “Lifting a Finger [Appendix]”: (Lifting a Finger [Appendix] has an EVC of FOR made by me -> Lifting a Finger [Appendix] has an EVC of AGAINST made by me)
3 I submit a comment with the content of “I vote FOR for” to the proposal “Lifting a Finger [Appendix]”: (Lifting a Finger [Appendix] has an EVC of AGAINST made by me -> Lifting a Finger [Appendix] has an EVC of FOR made by me)
4 I submit a comment with the content of “I vote AGAINST against”  to the proposal “Lifting a Finger [Appendix]”: (Lifting a Finger [Appendix] has an EVC of FOR made by me -> Lifting a Finger [Appendix] has an EVC of AGAINST made by me)
5 I submit a comment with the content of “I vote FOR for” to the proposal “Lifting a Finger [Appendix]”: (Lifting a Finger [Appendix] has an EVC of AGAINST made by me -> Lifting a Finger [Appendix] has an EVC of FOR made by me)

Field test of Combo capabilities.

Proposal: Lifting a Finger [Appendix]

Reached quorum 6 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 29 Jun 2017 07:49:33 UTC

In “Gamestate tracking”, replace “or all comments on it contain no voting icons” with:-

or (if it is a Votable Matter) if all comments on it contain no voting icons

Per discussion on Never a Need to Erase, this locks non-votable official posts as soon as they get a comment, rather than forcing other players to explicitly commit to stamping a non-vote “no take backs” voting icon.

Proposal: Bite a Rose

Fewer than a quorum not voting AGAINST, failed 2 votes to 5 by Kevan.

Adminned at 29 Jun 2017 07:47:38 UTC

Add to “Backgrounds”:

Two Explorers can be Lovers with each other and are by default Lovers with nobody. An Explorer knows their Lover’s Backgrounds (and that Lover knows theirs), and they can privately request the Expedition Leader this information, and shall get a private reply with the appropriate information in a timely manner. Two Explorers can become Lovers by paying 8 Supplies each to have a ROMANTIC DATE at a camp they’re both at.

Mutual secure trade of background information.

Proposal: [Appendix] Turn back the Clock

Fewer than a quorum not voting AGAINST, failed 1 vote to 5 by Kevan.

Adminned at 29 Jun 2017 07:46:58 UTC

Add to “Gamestate Tracking”, under the second paragraph, the following:

The action of deleting a post according to the explicit instructions of a rule removes from gameplay consideration the act of it having been posted at all in the first place, or it (the post being deleted) even existing, at any moment in time.

I think this can do. It’s got retroactive nature though, because of the time hax of changing what the past has been for consideration of gameplay, but I think that’s actually desirable for a case like this.

Proposal: [Appendix] [Gamestate] My writing is so amazing there’s never a need to erase

Reached quorum 6 votes to 2. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 29 Jun 2017 07:46:27 UTC

Amend rule “Gamestate tracking” by replacing the text:

An official post may be altered or removed by its author if it is less than six hours old and either no Explorer has commented on it or all comments on it contain no voting icons; otherwise this can only be done as allowed by the Ruleset.

with:

An official post may only be removed as allowed by the Ruleset.
An official post may be altered by its author if it is less than six hours old and either no Explorer has commented on it or all comments on it contain no voting icons; otherwise this can only be done as allowed by the Ruleset.

For the purposes of all Gamestate and the Ruleset, except this Proposal, consider that any official post that has been deleted has in fact never existed and was never posted to the blog.

As I explained in this comment: https://blognomic.com/archive/this_time_less_generally#comment133137 , I don’t actually believe deleted official posts were ever a problem; so this Proposal shouldn’t be necessary. But just in case we don’t agree, this would settle that.

Proposal: This time less generally

Times out 2 votes to 2, with 2 unresolved DEFs. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 28 Jun 2017 19:18:14 UTC

Add to “Artefacts”

The resolution of Inspections use the number of Artefacts that the inspectee had at the time of the inspection post was made.

Upon enaction make an official post title “Reinspection” with the body text containing the text:
https://twitter.com/blognomic/status/879232296003522561
https://twitter.com/blognomic/status/879232297844789248
https://twitter.com/blognomic/status/879232299388325888
https://twitter.com/blognomic/status/879232301099610112”

The Expedition Leader shall, in a timely manner, resolve the linked inspections, which were made by the Explorer named card, in the comments to the “Rebunked” post.

Otherwise inspections are frozen because the first five inspections can’t be commented on.

Proposal: accidental deletions

Self-killed. Failed by card.

Adminned at 27 Jun 2017 04:54:52 UTC

Add to “Artefacts”:

The Expedition Leader may resolve deleted inspection posts by including a direct link to the twitter post that announced that post was in and including the resolution of that inspection in a “Rebunked” post.
The resolution of Inspections use the number of Artefacts that the inspectee had at the time of the inspection post.

I remisread the rules because it was late at night and thought that nobody had any artefacts after posting the inspections.
Currently inspections can’t be resolved because I made a bunch of inspections and then deleted them but not before the twitter got them https://twitter.com/blognomic

Proposal: Anti-“Give Artefact away Dodge”

Failed by the CfJ “Unsolveable Proposals.” https://blognomic.com/archive/unsolveable_proposals Failed by card. All the other pending proposals which are deleted are failed as well.

Adminned at 27 Jun 2017 04:54:08 UTC

Add to the “Bunk Inspection” part in “Artefacts”:

During the time between the Inspection Story Post and its Resolution posted the Expedition Leader, the inspector is still rummaging through their inspectee’s bunk, so that inspectee cannot give/transfer their Artefacts (would they have any) to anyone else during this time.

I may or may not have available Proposal slots though lol. Putting it up anyway, because I might have it, or someone else can just copy it if they’d like to.

Only two collaborating Cultists would be needed to dodge inspection altogether, would they be fast enough, and given Sphinx’s moderate speed, it’s definitely viable, as proven by Kevan’s very quick reply to my first inspection (would he and pokes be Cultists, it would be very easy to just trade the item away - and he wouldn’t even need consent from Pokes to do it).

Call for Judgment: Unsolveable Proposals.

Reached quorum 5-0. Enacted by card.

Adminned at 27 Jun 2017 04:51:37 UTC

I’ve made two (or more, I did it so fast to dodge Twitter/Slack catching it, that I didn’t keep good track) proposals and then deleted them. Arguably, those Proposals, while deleted, still exist in formal space but cannot be interacted with - so I have two less Proposal slots and two Proposals that cannot be un-Pended.

So I can never make Proposals ever again, would deleted Proposals still count (and the same would go for anyone else in the game with two or more deleted Proposals lol) - unless I dislodge them with something like this.

(Note that the “deleted Proposals still count” issue has brought up before Here and then lightly discussed Here if it helps)

Upon enactment of this CFJ, all of Cuddlebeam’s Pending Proposals shall be Failed (because I have one or more proposals inaccessible by conventional means), then all other Pending Proposals which are inaccessible by conventional means due to electronic deletion shall be Failed as well.

Story Post: Inspecting Pokes

I inspect Pokes’s bunk! He’s at Boot Camp with me.

(Editted via “An official post may be altered or removed by its author if it is less than six hours old and either no Explorer has commented on it or all comments on it contain no voting icons”)

This can be outmaneuvered by just having the Artefact traded between the two, would they both be Cultists, but oh well lol.

Story Post: Inspecting Kevan

I inspect Kevan’s bunk! He’s at Boot Camp with me.

(Editted via “An official post may be altered or removed by its author if it is less than six hours old and either no Explorer has commented on it or all comments on it contain no voting icons”)

I don’t see becoming Untrustworthy to be a bad thing, because showing my other Background would be a good thing for me to prove without doubt that I’m not a Cultist.

I’M GOING TO SNIFF EVERYONE UNTIL I CAN SNIFF NO MOOOREE!

edit: testing formatting for a post

Adventuring

Drifting through deep and vertiginous dreams, I find myself suddenly awoken by a monstrous roaring elsewhere in the camp. A bear! Entirely unprepared for such an encounter at the South Pole, I race out into the blizzard and attempt to drive the creature away bare-handed. The beast looks up from the wreckage of the food store, and snarls as it lumbers towards me through the whirling snow.

I wrestle the bear.

I awake some hours later in the medical tent, my head pounding and feverish but my cold-weather clothing without a scratch.

Call for Judgment: Just the Scamplugging

Reached against quorum 1-7. Failed by card.

Adminned at 27 Jun 2017 04:50:31 UTC

Upon enactment of this CFJ, the following happens:
• Amend “Invalid values for game variables can never be used” to

Invalid values for game variables may not be used

Other CfJ had cheeky DoV shenanigans by me lol, so this is a correction.

Declaration of Victory: Artefact Smasher

Non-AGAINST votes do not exceed quorum. Failed by card.

Adminned at 26 Jun 2017 06:40:35 UTC

I win as per my scam explained HERE, but a quick summary: I’ve destroyed 10 Artefacts (via a scam), triggering “If three Artefacts have been destroyed, then the Explorer to have destroyed the most Artefacts (breaking ties in favour of the Explorer to have destroyed an Artefact most recently) has achieved victory.”

As per Kevan’s comment, I kind of should DoV based on my scam, so here it is.

Call for Judgment: A Scam & Scamplugging

Reached against quorum 1-6. Failed by card.

Adminned at 26 Jun 2017 07:00:16 UTC

We have no Glossary definition for “invalid”, so I’m going to go with “being without foundation or force in fact, truth, or law” (https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/invalid)

In “Clarifications”, we have:

Invalid values for game variables can never be used

can: “is able to”

Ergo, that first part is equivalent to:

Invalid values for game variables are able to never be used

Now, much like how the game is able to enter Hiatus, but only enters that stage when it’s explicitly said that it does, Invalid values have the ability to be never used, but in no moment is that ability actually being performed (because it’s never explicitly said that such an ability is being employed.)

At 6:37PM, I’ve sent the Expedition Leader the following (ten times), while using the invalid value of 1 Artefact for myself, repeatedly. (Obviously is this “unacceptable” or “without foundation in law”, but idc. That’s the scam.)

I destroy one of the Artefacts I’m carrying.

Thus, I’ve destroyed 10 Artefacts. I have achieved victory. But I’m not going to leave the gaping flaw open, so in this same CFJ I’m going to plug it.

——*——

Upon enactment of this CFJ, the following happens:
• Retroactively annul all scams of the exploit described above and any variants of it, as well as any DoVs that depend on any of those.
• Add to “Backgrounds”:

The Explorer named Cuddlebeam has achieved victory, by merits of a scam (Had broken 10 Artefacts, more than the amount of Players, but the exploit has been plugged since, for safety and merit reasons).

• Amend “Invalid values for game variables can never be used” to

Invalid values for game variables may not be used

Proposal: [Core] Aleatoric Abuse

Reached quorum 8-0. Enacted by card.

Adminned at 26 Jun 2017 06:59:25 UTC

Add to the bullet points under “Fair Play”:

An Explorer should not roll dice in the GNDT that are clearly associated with a particular action in the Ruleset, but with the intention to not use these rolled values to the best of their ability to resolve that action.

Holdover from the end of the last Dynasty. This is on the wiki’s Laundry List and it’s still my opinion that the best fix is Fair Play.

Proposal: More Contraband

Reached quorum. Enacted by card.

Adminned at 26 Jun 2017 06:43:06 UTC

If there is no rule called “Artefacts”, this proposal has no effect. Otherwise, add to “Artefacts”:

Bunk Inspection
An Explorer (the inspector) may inspect another Explorer’s (the inspectee, who must be in the same location as the inspector) bunk by making a Story Post (the Inspection) indicating so. The Expedition Leader may resolve any Inspections in the order they were posted by posting the resolution of the Inspection as a comment on the Inspection. If the inspector is Untrustworthy, the Inspection becomes invalid and nothing happens. If the inspectee is carrying no Artefacts, the inspector becomes Untrustworthy. If instead the inspectee is carrying more than zero Artefacts, the inspectee becomes Untrustworthy, and the resolution of the Inspection should also publicly declare one randomly-chosen background of the inspectee.

Instead of smashing the Artefacts, you may instead continue to rifle through the inspectee’s personal effects until you find at least one ID card.

Proposal: Frozen By Inaction v2

Quorum against, 2-5. Failed by pokes.

Adminned at 25 Jun 2017 13:00:32 UTC

Upon enaction, a random Explorer, determined by the first DICEX in the GNDT (after this has enacted) along a string in the comment section of “Frozen by Inaction Roll”, where X is the number of non-Idle non-Emperor players, has achieved victory.

Small fixes to card’s proposal

Proposal: Frozen By Inaction

Self-killed. Failed by pokes.

Adminned at 25 Jun 2017 12:59:56 UTC

Upon enaction a random Explorer, determined by a DICE9 that corresponds to the alphabetical list of players in the sidebar, that is not the Expedition Leader has achieved victory.

2 days without proposals or little changes to the gndt, do people tire of the theme maybe?

Proposal: You’re my Hex Bomb

Reaches quorum 6-1. Enacted by pokes.

Adminned at 25 Jun 2017 12:59:20 UTC

Add to “Conspiracies”:

An Explorer may spend 4 Supplies to make themselves Hexproof by painting runes on themselves and smoking plenty of incense, as per a ritual the University has discovered. While Hexproof, that Explorer cannot be targeted by Conspiracies, but if that Explorer changes Location, they lose their Hexproof status. An Explorer, by default, is not Hexproof.

Conspiracy countermeasure to be less nude to it. People might not want to forcibly change sides.

Call for Judgment: We were actually frozen all along

Quorum of AGAINST votes, failed 1-6 by Kevan.

Adminned at 23 Jun 2017 07:37:18 UTC

As per “Gamestate tracking”, we have:

Any single official post cannot be of two different types of Official Post unless a rule explicitly states otherwise.

“Type” isn’t defined anywhere, so I believe it must take the usual english meaning, which (by https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/type) is: “a particular kind, class, or group”

A “Voteable Matter” is a “a particular kind, class, or group” of Official Post.

A “Proposal” is a “a particular kind, class, or group” of Official Post.

Official Post of the Proposal type also need to be of the Voteable Matter type. However, Official Posts can only be of one type, and the Ruleset doesn’t explicitly mention that “a Proposal can have two different type of Official Posts”.

Therefore, Proposals can’t be made, because they need to be Voteable Matters if created, yet it’s not allowed for them to have two types. CFJs can’t be made either. This isn’t even a CFJ, actually, according to that paradigm.

Once “enacted” (after informally restarting the game), this “CFJ” (if it were), will amend “Any single official post cannot be of two different types of official post unless a rule explicitly states otherwise.” to:

Any single official post cannot be of two different types of official post (except “Voteable Matter”) unless a rule explicitly states otherwise

I kind of wanted to use this later on to do a variant of “Freezebullet” but meh I’ll just post it now lol.

Proposal: Under the Ice

Adminned at 23 Jun 2017 13:44:19 UTC

Replace “If the completed Missions “Secret Treasure” value is “Eldritch Horror”, they gain no Reward and the Ancient One’s Satisfaction increases by 10.” with:-

If the completed Mission’s “Secret Treasure” value is “Eldritch Horror”, the Expedition Leader selects one of its Participants in a secretly random manner, and that Participant gains an Artefact.

Proposal: Hot Dog

Times out 2 votes to 3. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 23 Jun 2017 13:42:52 UTC

Add a section called "Emergency Measures". Within it, add:

At-will, Explorers can remove one of their Dog Sleds (if they have at least 1) to gain 5 Supplies.

Proposal: Contraband

Self-killed. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 23 Jun 2017 07:36:46 UTC

If there is no rule called “Artefacts”, this proposal has no effect. Otherwise, add to “Artefacts”:

Bunk Inspection

The Expedition Leader may resolve any Inspections in the order they were posted by posting the results of the Inspection as a comment on the Inspection: If the inspectee is carrying no Artefacts, the inspector becomes Untrustworthy. If instead the inspectee is carrying more than zero Artefacts, those Artefacts are destroyed by the inspector and the inspectee becomes Untrustworthy.

There’s currently no impetus for anyone to surrender their Artefacts, but what if they get hot…

Proposal: Oh, there’s where that Silver Key went

Timed out 4 votes to 3. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 23 Jun 2017 07:36:18 UTC

If “Handy Land” did not pass, this proposal has no effect.

Repeal the rule “Ascendance”.

Enact a new rule, “Artefacts”:-

Each Explorer carries zero or more Artefacts, and this is tracked privately by the Expedition Leader. Whenever an Explorer gains an Artefact, the Expedition Leader should privately inform them of this.

An Explorer may give an Artefact they are carrying to another Explorer in the same Location by privately informing the Expedition Leader of this. An Explorer who is not a Cultist may destroy an Artefact they are carrying by privately informing the Expedition Leader of this; upon doing so, the Explorer stops carrying it.

If a Cultist has a number of Artefacts equal to a quorum of Cultists, and is at the Mountain Camp, and is not at Gunpoint, then that Cultist has achieved victory.

If three Artefacts have been destroyed, then the Explorer to have destroyed the most Artefacts (breaking ties in favour of the Explorer to have destroyed an Artefact most recently) has achieved victory.

Give each Cultist one Artefact (but the Expedition Leader need not inform them of this gain).

A copy-and-paste re-proposal, conditional on Handy Land.

Story Post: HR report

Current members of the expedition:

2 Handymen
3 Adventurers
3 Scholars
1 Military
2 Spies

I’m sorry if I made any mistakes, I can’t access my PC until tomorrow. I’m fairly certain that this is right though.

Conspiracies everywhere

Even more conspiring conspirators can be content to hear that their conspiracies are resolved.

Proposal: Abomination!

Timed out 2 votes to 0 with 2 unresolved DEFs. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 23 Jun 2017 07:35:01 UTC

Add to the rule “Madness”:

An explorer with the background of cultist who is insane may make a public blog post declaring that they are HIDEOUSLY TRANSFORMED. The Expedition Leader may certify that this explorer is, in fact, a cultist by posting a comment containing the word “fnord”.

Add a rule named “Victory”:

If any explorer who is not HIDEOUSLY TRANSFORMED is the only explorer who is not insane, they have achieved victory.

If an explorer is HIDEOUSLY TRANSFORMED, and has had their post to that effect certified by the Expedition Leader, and all explorers are insane, that explorer has achieved victory.

Adding a victory condition, although not a particularly achievable one at present. EDITED: this version is a bit more streamlined.

Proposal: First among Equals

Failed with a quorum against, 1 vote to 5. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 21 Jun 2017 07:58:21 UTC

Add to “Ascendance”:

The first Cultist who posts a DoA which Passes achieves Ur-Victory. Ur-Victory has no in-game function aside from being a formal token representing merit.

To make inter-cultist competition a thing.

Proposal: Handy Land

Everyone showed up for this one, and it passes 8-1. Enacted by pokes.

Adminned at 21 Jun 2017 02:12:19 UTC

Return all Handyworked numbers to their original values.

Replace the entire Handyman background ability with:-

When a Handyman would spend a number of Supplies to perform an action, they may instead spend half that number of Supplies (rounding up) to perform it. (This ability may not be used more than once per action.)

It’s a fun idea, but per the Silver Key (where “each Explorer has zero or more Artefacts” could be changed to “one or more” to give everyone an Artefact), overpowered unless we’re very careful. And we possibly only have one Handyman, and it’s the player who most enjoys trying weird things.

Proposal: Praise Cthulu

Reaches quorum against, 2-5. Failed by pokes.

Adminned at 21 Jun 2017 02:09:45 UTC

If “The Silver Key” has passed, this proposal does nothing.

Upon enactment of this proposal, all Explorer’s backgrounds become “Cultist” and “Cultist”. Add the following to “Ascendance”:

All Cultists have Achieved Victory.

Another option in case Silver Key fails.

An NPC victory still seems like a very interesting route to me. (Although a “regular victory” is still cool too.)

PRAISE CTHULU!!

Proposal: The Silver Key

Self-killed. Failed by card.

Adminned at 20 Jun 2017 15:32:17 UTC

Per my comment on the previous proposal, trying an endgame more interesting than “Cthulhu rises, nobody wi—*cough* everybody wins!”, as I suspect the Cultists might just be working silently towards expanding their number to quorum, instead of making any game noise.

Timed out 7-2 with 3 DEFs. Enacted by card.

Adminned at 20 Jun 2017 15:29:37 UTC

If the Expedition Leader does not have a valid FOR vote on this proposal, it does nothing instead.

Proposal: Silent gives consent

Self-killed. Failed by card.

Adminned at 18 Jun 2017 05:33:54 UTC

If a rule named “Permission” exists, delete it.

Amend the rule “Dog Teams”, by replacing:

and who have given the Navigator permission to do so.

with:

unless that member has posted a public blog post during this Dynasty, stating that they cannot Tag Along, and haven’t published since a public blog post stating that they can Tag Along again.

Qui ne dit mot consent.

Proposal: Horrors

Self-killed. Failed by card.

Adminned at 18 Jun 2017 05:33:11 UTC

Add a new section called “Horrors”. Within it, add:

Whenever a Stamped Mission’s Secret Reward is “Eldritch Horror”, if one or more of its Participants is a Cultist, one randomly selected Cultist of those (chosen by the Expedition Leader) is now also a Horror. The Expedition Leader shall make a public post which states which Explorer has become a Horror when this happens.

A Horror may spend 5 Supplies to Attack an Explorer which is at their same location. That Explorer gains 1 Insanity.

Horrors are not welcome in Camps, so they may never enter them, and if they are within them, they are instead placed at that Camp’s Latitude.

I think its much more interesting for Horrors to be Players, running around, COMING AT YOU!

Homeward Bound

Gaelan idles out after eight days of inactivity. Quorum drops to 5.

Proposal: Mother May I?

Self-killed. Failed by card.

Adminned at 18 Jun 2017 05:32:07 UTC

Make a new rule “Permission” with the text:

Actions or rules can change their behavior depending upon whether an Explorer has permission from another Explorer.

Permission can only be given or recieved by an official “Permission” blogpost. A Permission post is valid only in the Dynasty it is posted during. A Permission post consists of a statement that gives or revokes permission from the author of that Permission post to one or more explicitly named Explorers. That means no statements like “Explorers with 1 or more X have permission ...”. Permission posts cannot conditionally give permission. A Permission post can give and revoke differently named Explorers within the same post a la “Explorer A has my permission. Explorer B does not have my permission”. A Permission post defaults to valid.

Permission has multipul scopes, i.e. if an Explorer has permission from another Explorer they only have the scope of permission given from the first Explorer and not all permission. As an example, suppose there’s a rule that allows an Explorer to take a point from Explorer they have permission from and there is also a rule that allows an Explorer to move an Explorer they have permission from. If Explorer B has permission from Explorer A to for the movement rule, Explorer B would not also be able to take a point from Explorer A because they don’t have permission for it.Make a new rule “Permission” with the text:

Since people keep on saying they don’t like permission because it’s vague. Let’s make it less vague!
This initial drafting is probably too convoluted, but please to make proposals building upon it if you see any improvements to be made.

Conspiracies!

Another set of Conspiracies is resolved.

Proposal: Veteran Tales

Timed out 1-4. 1 unresolved DEF. Failed by card.

Adminned at 18 Jun 2017 05:30:29 UTC

If “Insanity” exists as a mechanic, add to the powers of the Military listed in “Backgrounds” the following:

An Armed Military can tell tales of hardship and overcoming to other Explorers. If an Armed Military is at the same Camp as another Explorer, that Military can pay 5 supplies to Tell an Important Tale to that Explorer. Then, that Explorer’s Insanity is lowered by 1.

$$ pay2loseinsanity $$. I think 1 week for the fireplace is fair, but I feel like sinking a lot of dosh should be able to do as well, because 1 week could be a lot of time.

Proposal: Bad Dogs

Reaches quorum 7-0. Enacted by pokes.

Adminned at 17 Jun 2017 12:44:30 UTC

In “Dog Teams”, replace “If all Explorers that belong to the same Dog Team are able to move to the same Camp, any Explorer that belongs to that Dog Team may move each team member of their team that they have permission to do so from to that Camp as an Outdoors action.” with:-

When an Explorer (the “Navigator”) moves from one Location to another, they may apply the same change (at no cost) to any other members of their Dog Team who are at the Navigator’s starting Location, and who have given the Navigator permission to do so.

Move the paragraph beginning “If an Explorer has one or more Dog Sleds, they may change their camp to” to the end of the rule “Exploring”.

Making dog teams less weird, and more like the “when you move, drag some friends along for free” mechanic I assume they were originally meant to be.

Proposal: Twin Sleds

Reaches quorum 5-2. Enacted by pokes.

Adminned at 17 Jun 2017 12:40:55 UTC

Amend rule “Using Supplies” by substituting “2” for the default value for the number of Dog Sleds.
Set to 2 the number of Dog Sleds of every Explorer who has less than 2 Dog Sleds.

It’d be okay if we had actually accomplished the mission to get the extra dog sleds. Instead, we just Proposed that the mission be over ( https://blognomic.com/archive/and_nobody_donated_to_boot ). So basically, we Proposed to each get 2 Dog Sleds instead of 1, which sounds unjust to newcomers.

Proposal: Obed Marshmallows

Reached quorum 8-0. Enacted by card.

Adminned at 17 Jun 2017 06:36:53 UTC

If the proposal “Did I ever tell you the definition of Insanity?” failed, this proposal has no further effect.

To “Going Insane”, add:-

An Explorer located in a Camp which contains a Fire and at least one other Explorer may lose 1 Insanity (to a minimum of zero) as a weekly action.

To the “Cultist” background, add:-

A Cultist Explorer (even if they are Insane) may privately contact the Expedition Leader announcing that they have SEEN THE TRUTH, as a weekly action. In response, the Expedition Leader should set the Cultist Explorer’s Insanity to zero.

A couple of ways to decrease Insanity.

Proposal: Spanish Inquisition

Reached quorum 1-5. Failed by card.

Adminned at 17 Jun 2017 06:34:28 UTC

Upon enactment of this proposal, add to “Hints”:

If at any moment there is QUORUM amount of Cultists or more, the Expedition Leader shall make a Spanish Inquisition public blog post in a timely fashion. Such a post will convert an amount of Cultist Backgrounds to Scholar Backgrounds, determined by the Expedition Leader. The newly-converted shall have their new condition communicated to them in private in a timely fashion.

If there are Quorum amount of Cultists, the game should be over imo and I wouldn’t feel alright to win as a non-Cultist because the Cultists just chose to not employ their Quorum power either. This should help to solve that.

Proposal: Did I ever tell you the definition of Insanity?

Reached quorum 6-1. Enacted by card.

Adminned at 16 Jun 2017 18:17:18 UTC

Add a new subrule “Madness” under “Explorers”

Explorers have Insanity tracked on the GNDT.  Explorers with an Insanity of greater than 10 are insane.
Insane Explorers cannot utilize their Background powers.

Add a subrule “Going Insane” under “Madness”

An Explorer gains 1 Insanity each time one of the following happens to them:
*The first time that an Explorer is in the same location as a Horror that they have not gained insanity from previously

Mission Hand-in: Establish a Dig Site

Dear members of the Geographic Society,

Be it known that I have established a dig site at a great southern latitude. All hail science! I have completed the mission “Establishing a dig site”. The participants are “Orkboi”.

Proposal: Measureless to Man

Reaches quorum 7-0. Enacted by pokes.

Adminned at 15 Jun 2017 10:26:55 UTC

Repeal the rule “Exploration”.

Remove “+5 square miles charted” from the Reward of the “Where’s the mountains?” mission.

The GNDT column with the widest title is three weeks old and still isn’t being used for anything. (The rule being repealed here just says “Each Explorer has a non-negative integer Square Miles Charted, which is tracked in the GNDT.”)

Proposal: Insanity

Self-killed. Failed by pokes.

Adminned at 15 Jun 2017 10:24:43 UTC

Add a new subrule “Madness” to the rule “Explorers” with the text

Explorers have Insanity tracked on the GNDT. Insanity defaults to 0. Explorers with an Insanity of greater than 10 are insane.
Insane Explorers cannot utilize their Background powers.

Add a subrule “Going Insane” to the rule “Madness” with the text:

*The first time an Explorer is in the same location as a Horror that they have not gained insanity from previously

I couldn’t think of a non-automatic way for insanity to be based off of temperature of locations that wasn’t overly complicated

Proposal: The Spy who Remembered Me

Self-killed. Failed by pokes.

Adminned at 15 Jun 2017 10:22:43 UTC

In “Backgrounds”, add to the bullet point for Spy:

Spies recognize each other from the annual International Spy Convention. A Spy may recall who they saw at last year’s convention by sending a private message to the Expedition Leader. The Expedition Leader should privately respond to the message with the identity of all Spies.

The swag is great, too bad you can’t wear any of it in public.

Story Post: Conspiracies!

I hereby announce my resolving of all current conspiracies.

All Explorers cease conspiring.

Story Post: Current Roster of Participants

Human Resources aboard the Arkham has informed everyone that there are currently active on our Expedition:

2 Handymen
4 Adventurers
3 Scholars
1 Military
2 Spies

Proposal: Uncamp

Reached against quorum 1-5. Failed by card.

Adminned at 15 Jun 2017 05:23:25 UTC

Add to “Camps” a subsection called “Uncamp”. Within it, add:

Explorers may remove (delete) an Abandoned Camp which shares Location with them by paying 4 supplies for this purpose. An Abandoned Camp is a Camp that has nothing within it.

Proposal: Weather Report

Reached quorum 8-0. Enacted by card.

Adminned at 15 Jun 2017 05:20:21 UTC

Remove “Camps with open doors decrease their temperature by 10 degrees every 12 hours. Camps that are at -25°C or less do not decrease their temperature in this way.” from the ruleset.

Reword “Fire” to:-

As an Outdoors action an Explorer may spend X, where X is 1 or greater, supplies to create a Fire of size X in the location they are in. This is tracked on the Camps page with the text “fire (Y)”, where Y is the Fire’s size.

If a Fire has a size of 0 or lower, it ceases to exist.

Reword “Et ignem regunt numeri” to:-

As a daily communal action, any Explorer may observe temperature changes, as the following atomic action:

  • Increase by 30°C (to a maximum of 25°C) the temperature of every Location which has a Fire.
  • Decrease by 20°C (to a minimum of -25°C) the temperature of every Camp which has no Fire and which has open Doors.
  • Decrease by 20°C (to a minimum of -25°C) the temperature of every Latitude which has no Fire.
  • Decrease the size of all Fires by 2, to a minimum of zero.
  • Post a blog entry summarising these changes.

Set all Camp temperatures to those specified in this version of the Camps wiki page.

If any Fires existed immediately prior to the enactment of this proposal, replace them with Fires which have a Size equal to their “Y” value.

Moving the temperature changes out of their strange, quantum, wiki-history realm and into announced player actions.

(Are we actually tracking Latitude temperatures anywhere?)

Proposal: this time it actually is madness

Self-killed. Failed by pokes.

Adminned at 14 Jun 2017 23:15:15 UTC

Add a new subrule “Madness” to the rule “Explorers” with the text

Explorers have Insanity tracked on the GNDT. Insanity defaults to 0. Explorers with an Insanity of greater than 10 are insane.
Insane Explorers cannot utilize their Background powers.

Add a subrule “Going Insane” to the rule “Madness” with the text:

An Explorer gains 1 insanity if one of the following happens:
*That Explorer is in a Very Cold location for 48 hours
*That Explorer is in an Extremely Cold location for 24 hours
*The first time an Explorer is in the same location as a Horror that they have not gained insanity from

Stable people don’t go on a trip to the Antarctic.

Proposal: Guard

Reaches quorum against, 2-6. Failed by pokes.

Adminned at 14 Jun 2017 23:14:45 UTC

Add to the Military’s abilities:

An Armed Military may, at-will and by paying 1 Supplies, Guard a certain Camp, if they are within or outside that Camp, and such a Guard lasts until they leave it. While a Military is Guarding a Camp, no Supplies can be taken from it.

New Player - Sinq

Hullo! My name is Sinq, and here is my formal submission of intent to join the game. I’ve played with you all once before very briefly in 2010 as Kneuronak. Any feedback as I pick this back up would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Proposal: Preaching to the Converted

The Admin field was previously: “Good point from Pokes.” Thanks, Kevan! Reaches quorum 7-0. Enacted by pokes.

Adminned at 13 Jun 2017 22:36:06 UTC

In “Conspiracies”, add a new bullet point to the top of the list:-

  • Any Conspiracies which target an Explorer who is both a Cultist and a Scholar are skipped for the remainder of this list.

Proposal: AES Volume 1 Issue 1

Reaches quorum 7-0. Enacted by pokes.

Adminned at 13 Jun 2017 22:34:01 UTC

In “Background”, add to Scholar:

Scholars have institutional access to the weekly Annals of Eldritch Studies (AES). As a weekly action, the Expedition Leader may publish an issue of AES. Publishing an issue of AES consists of randomly choosing one word of the Secret Creed and privately messaging that word to all Explorers with institutional access to AES.

Proposal: Antarctic Adjacency Matrix

Reaches quorum 6-1. Enacted by pokes.

Adminned at 13 Jun 2017 22:32:52 UTC

In “Explorers”, change

If an Explorer has one or more Dog Sleds, they may change their camp to either the camp with the next highest latitude or the camp with the next lowest latitude, both relative to their current camp, by spending 1 Supplies as an Outdoors action. They cannot take this action if they have zero or less supplies.

to:

If an Explorer has one or more Dog Sleds, they may change their camp to any camp adjacent to their current camp, by spending 1 Supplies as an Outdoors action. They cannot take this action if they have zero or less supplies. A pair of camps are adjacent if they are at the same latitude, or if there are no camps at any latitudes between them.

Proposal: Frozen Vote.

Reached against quorum 1-5. Failed by card.

Adminned at 13 Jun 2017 04:59:15 UTC

Add a section called “Frozen Voting”. Within it, add:

An Explorer may add the string “F-R-O-Z-E-N” in their EVC. That makes their vote on that Voteable Matter FROZEN. Explorers cannot make any other EVCs on a certain Votable Matter if they have a FROZEN vote on that Votable Matter.

Mountain Camp

Apparently some hardy Explorer braved the cold wilds to set up a Camp in the mountain.
Without a combo! Why so much discretion?

Card, it appears you “jumped” from Base Camp to Science Camp. However, the first sentence of the dynastic rule Explorers is:

If an Explorer has one or more Dog Sleds, they may change their camp to either the camp with the next highest latitude or the camp with the next lowest latitude, both relative to their current camp, by spending 1 Supplies as an Outdoors action.

The latitudinal map on the wiki page Camps makes it pretty clear that Science Camp has neither the next highest nor the next lowest latitude from Base Camp.

In fact, Base Camp and Rebooted Camp both have the same latitude, so there isn’t such a thing as “the Camp with the next lowest latitude” from Base Camp. I believe if you want to travel from Base Camp to Boot Camp, you have to do it latitude by latitude, without Camp-jumping.

Proposal: Have You Heard The Bad News?

Reaches quorum 5-0. Enacted by pokes.

Adminned at 12 Jun 2017 21:47:39 UTC

Enact a new rule, “Conspiracies”:-

An Explorer who is a Cultist or a Scholar may Conspire to convert another Explorer by sending a private message to the Expedition Leader with this intention. At any time when two or more Explorers are conspiring against the same Explorer, the Expedition Leader may resolve the effects of all such Conspiracies, in sequence:

  • If two or more Scholars are conspiring against the same Cultist, that Cultist becomes a Scholar instead of a Cultist.
  • If two or more Cultists are conspiring against the same Scholar, that Scholar becomes a Cultist instead of a Scholar.
  • If two or more Explorers are conspiring against the same Explorer, and that Explorer is neither a Scholar nor a Cultist, then all of these Conspiring Explorers become Untrustworthy.

When one or more Explorers become Untrustworthy, the Expedition Leader must announce this in a blog post. If an Explorer is Untrustworthy, they may no longer Conspire against other Explorers.

Upon the Expedition Leader resolving Conspiracies, the Leader must post a blog entry announcing this, and privately inform any Explorers if their Backgrounds have changed. Upon the blog entry being posted, all Explorers cease Conspiring.

Proposal: Day of Prophecy

Self-killed. Failed by pokes.

Adminned at 12 Jun 2017 21:35:08 UTC

Add a section called “Endgames”:

The 1st of June 2017 is the Day of Prophecy.

During and after the Day of Prophecy:
• If the Ancient One’s Satisfaction is equal or greater to the amount of Missions Completed times three, any Cultist has achieved Victory.
• If the Ancient One’s Satisfaction is lower to the amount of Missions Completed times three, the non-Cultist with the most [Supplies minus Debt] has achieved Victory, if there are no ties for such a position.

We’re about halfway through the regular dynasty time-length (20 days of 40), good time to propose a wincon.

Proposal: [Core] “Invalid”

Self-killed. Failed by card.

Adminned at 11 Jun 2017 17:32:34 UTC

Add to the Glossary:

Invalid:
An entity which is an invalid X isn’t an X for the purposes of the ruleset.

Last dynasty we had the argument tossed that an invalid thing could somehow cause actual effect in the ruleset as the thing it was failing to be. I disagree with that. I believe it should be something like this.

DIssapering Rule Notice

Since rules were shuffled around, renamed and deleted in some cases I have updated corrections. From my judgment if a rule ceases to exist, it’s corresponding gamestate incarnation also ceases to exist.
Also keep in mind when moving rules etc. they currently don’t change locations until they are removed from an Explorer’s RulesHeld. Since rules can only be located at camps they can only be removed at a camp.

Call for Judgment: Two Illegal Combos

Reached quorum 5-0. Enacted by card.

Adminned at 11 Jun 2017 05:52:59 UTC

Add to “Combos”

If there is a mistake in the summary of the gamestate in a combo and that mistake doesn’t make it impossible for the stated actions to have happened, the author of that combo may correct those mistakes by making a comment along the format “[# of step]: [corrected gamestate summary]”.

In the interest of having a Hand-in post ready for Sphinx when they show up, lets make the gamestate corrected.
Make the combo post “That pile of boots had been a mountain all along” legal since the only thing wrong is a summary.
Make the post “It was all a dream!” legal. Transfer 10 supplies from orkboi to Boot Camp, reduce orkboi’s debt by 10. They had only 1 dogsled and couldn’t take more than 10 supplies, however the combo posted could have been completed with only 10 supplies. Make a “Mission Hand-in” post for the “Establishing a Dig Site” mission upon the enaction of this CfJ.

Quack

duck idles away. Quorum becomes 5.

Proposal: Temperature regulations

Timed out 3-1. Enacted by card.

Adminned at 11 Jun 2017 17:31:33 UTC

If the Proposal “Mnt Mission” was failed, do nothing.

Otherwise:

Create a subrule of rule “Camps” titled “Camp doors” and move to that subrule the text:

Camps can have two door states, open or closed and default to closed. Camps with open doors decrease their temperature by 10 degrees every 12 hours. Camps that are at -25°C or less do not decrease their temperature in this way. If an Explorer is located in a Camp they may set that Camps door state to open or closed, as an Outdoors action.

Make the rule “Fire” a subrule of rule “Camps”.

Replace the sentence:

Camps can have two door states, open or closed and default to closed.

with:

Every Camp either has closed doors or open doors.

Create a subrule of rule “Camps” titled “Et ignem regunt numeri”:

If at any time the Temperature of a Camp tracked on the wiki page “Camps” is inconsistent with the latest increases or decreases in Temperature described in rules “Camp doors” or “Fire”, an Explorer may update the wiki page “Camps” to reflect the change. For the purposes of all Gamestate and the Ruleset, excluding this rule, a Camp is considered to have the Temperature tracked on the wiki page “Camps”’.

Fixing the 12h automatic updating.

I also would have argued very strongly that a single Camp could have had both door states at once.

Proposal: Temperature Units

Timed out 6-0. Enacted by card.

Adminned at 11 Jun 2017 17:27:39 UTC

Change Base Camp’s and Boot Camp’s Temperatures to 20°C each.

They currently have a temperature of 0 BTU, and although this isn’t consistent with the current ruleset, I think the easiest way to fix it is though a Proposal.

Story Post: Combo: That pile of boots had been a mountain all along

1 Exit Camp (Location: Boot Camp; Location: 82°)
2 Establish a new Camp {}
2a Spend 3 of my supplies (Supplies: 4; Supplies: 1)
2b Create a new Camp on the Camps wikipage. ( -> new Camp section on Camps wikipage)
2c Add the name of the new Camp. (Camp -> Rebooted Camp)
2d Add a description. (Description: -> Description: A big mountain stands here. It's covered in boots.)
2e Set the Latitude of the new Camp to my current Location. (Camp Latitude: -> Camp Latitude: 82°)
2f Set any other values of the newly created Camp to their defaults. (-> Supplies: 0; Temperature: 20°C; Rules Present:)
2g Set their Location to the newly established Camp. (Location: 82° -> Location: Rebooted Camp) {new Camp section on Camps wikipage, Rebooted Camp, Description: 'A big mountain stands here. It's covered in boots.', Latitude: 82°, Supplies:0, Temperature: 0°C, Rules Present:-; my Location: Rebooted Camp}

I couldn’t find a rule preventing two Camps at the same Latitude.

Proposal: Debt version gazillion

Timed out 1-5. Failed by card.

Adminned at 11 Jun 2017 17:21:39 UTC

Add to the subsection “Debt”:

Explorers with Debt cannot perform any action on Mondays. Explorers with more than 30 Debt cannot perform any action on Mondays nor Wednesdays. Explorers with more than 100 Debt cannot perform any action on Mondays nor Wednesdays nor Fridays.

Proposal: Mnt Mission

Timed out 3-1-1. Enacted by card.

Adminned at 11 Jun 2017 17:01:41 UTC

Add a new mission:
Title: Where’s the mountains?
Synopsis: Most of the people on the expedition thought that the Antarctic had mountains (possibly angry or mad ones), but can’t seem to find where they lay specifically on the chart.
Goal: Have 3 camps that:
*each have the word “mountain” in their title or description
*each have a temperature of -25°C or less
*each have no supplies
*each have the door state of open
*each are at a latitude of 88° or greater
Participants are Explorers that created one of the first three camps that satisfies all of these conditions.
Reward: +10 supplies, +5 square miles charted and 1 dogsled.
Secret Treasure: Unknown

Add to “Camps”

Camps can have two door states, open or closed and default to closed. Camps with open doors decrease their temperature by 10 degrees every 12 hours. Camps that are at -25°C or less do not decrease their temperature in this way. If an Explorer is located in a Camp they may set that Camps door state to open or closed, as an Outdoors action.

Make a new rule “Fire”

As an Outdoors action an Explorer may spend X, where X is 1 or greater, supplies to create a fire in the location they are in. This is tracked on the Camps page with the text “fire (Y)”, where Y is initally the number of supplies spent to create that fire and Y decreases by 1 every 12 hours. Fires that have a Y of 0 or less cease to exist. Every 12 hours, a location that has a fire increases its temperature by 15°C; locations with a fire that are 25°C or greater do not increase their temperature in this way. Latitudes that do not have a fire and have a temperature greater than -25°C decrease their temperature by 10°C; if a Latidue would decrease their temperature in this way below -25°C it instead becomes -25°C.

Make “Exploring” a subrule of “Explorers”.

As to the rider, I think Kevan meant to do that in their cleanup proposal, but forgot to write it down or something.

It was all a dream!

It was all a dream! A dream that deviated slightly from reality. So now I set out and prepare a new camp as dictated by the dream, only with a better name and description.

Combo:

1. Take 17 Supplies from Boot Camp (Orkboi supplies 3 -> 20 ; Orkboi debt 0 -> 17)
2. Move to Base Camp (Orkboi location Boot Camp -> Base Camp, supplies 20 -> 19)
2. Exit Base Camp (Orkboi location = Base Camp -> Orkboi location = 82d)
3. Explore (Orkboi location 82d -> 84d, supplies 17 -> 16)
4. Explore (Orkboi location 84d -> 86d, supplies 16 -> 15)
5. Establish Camp “Science Camp” (Orkboi supplies 15 -> 12 ; new camp created ; location 86d -> Science Camp)

Since the previous combo was illegal, doing it again correctly.

In the name of science!

Why O why did I ever join this accursed expedition—the bitter cold, the unexplained chest hair, and now these rumors of cultists in our midst. It is all too mad! But science must go on.

My research has discovered a promising dig site deeper into the interior. I cannot rely on my companions to take action, and I do not yet know which of them I may trust. Although my research indicates that this particular mission will bring me no hidden rewards, I will do it. It is my hope this will bring us closer to some goal that we have not yet established. For science. Also, 6 supplies.

1. Take 17 Supplies from Boot Camp (Orkboi supplies 3 -> 20 ; Orkboi debt 0 -> 17)
2. Move to Base Camp (Orkboi location Boot Camp -> Base Camp, supplies 20 -> 19)
2. Exit Base Camp (Orkboi location = Base Camp -> Orkboi location = 82d)
3. Explore (Orkboi location 82d -> 84d, supplies 17 -> 16)
4. Explore (Orkboi location 84d -> 86d, supplies 16 -> 15)
5. Establish Camp “Dig Sitecamp” (Orkboi supplies 15 -> 12 ; location 86d -> Dig Sitecamp ; new camp created)

Proposal: Bigfoot

Quorum of AGAINST votes, failed 1 vote to 6 by Kevan.

Adminned at 08 Jun 2017 17:48:20 UTC

Create a section called “Bigfoot”, within it, add:

Bigfoot is a large creature that accompanies the expedition like a pet, after being attracted to the smell of fresh food at Boot Camp. For all purposes, Bigfoot is considered to be an Explorer, although it its a Non-Player character, and is controlled by the rules contained within this section.

Any Player, at.will, if they’re at the same Location as Bigfoot, pay Bigfoot 1 Supply to make him do a singular choice or action that he can do.

Bigfoot cannot be Idled.

Bigfoot’s Backgrounds are Adventurer and Adventurer

Group pet of a sort.

Proposal: Cultist Sacrifice

Quorum of AGAINST votes. Failed 1 vote to 6. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 08 Jun 2017 14:00:09 UTC

Add to the Cultist’s powers in “Backgrounds”:

A Cultist can, at-will but only once ever during this dynasty, Ritually Sacrifice themselves by making a public post for this purpose and indicating a Target. The Expedition Leader shall then Witness this post in a timely fashion by replying to such a post, indicating this event. When this happens, the Cultist is Idled, and cannot be Unidle for the rest of the dynasty and the Target gains 20 Supplies and 2 Dog Sleds.

Add to “Backgrounds”:

If a non-Cultist does a post in the format of a Ritual Sacrifice, the Expedition Leader shall then Give Their Condolences and from then on, that Explorer is Idled and cannot Unidle for the rest of the Dynasty, as they’ve simply committed suicide.

Story Post: Boot Camp Supply Delivery Mission Hand-in

Boot Camp is swarming with big-footed Explorers again! The Camp has been refurnished and there is now plenty of food for all the hungry Explorers: leather roast, lace soup, and the chef’s special tough-as-old-boots bear steak.
There has been some criticism that some not-so-hardy Explorers have legislated those supplies into existence instead of braving the Antarctica colds for a few supplies more.

The Mission is “Boot Camp Supply Delivery”, the Participants are Publius Scribonius Scholasticus, orkboi, Cpt_Koen, Card, Gaelan, Cuddlebeam, Kevan and Pokes.

As per rule “Expedition Leading”, I have set that Mission’s Status from “Pending” to “Completed”.

Proposal: Unmasked

Times out 1 vote to 1 with 5 unresolved DEFs. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 08 Jun 2017 13:59:37 UTC

Make a new rule “Unmasked” with the text

After a DoV or DoA has passed the Expedition Leader makes an “Unmasked” post in a timely manner containing the following information:
The backgrounds of each Explorer along with the date and time they received those backgrounds.
If an Explorer used a secret power (such as the spy’s power), include what time and date they used it at and what information they received from using such a power.

Seems important to give the Expedition Leader enough time to compile what information already exists early and then add to it as the Dynasty goes on, instead of having it pile up near the end of the Dynasty.

Proposal: some corrections

Timed out 5 votes to 1 with 1 unresolved DEF. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 08 Jun 2017 09:57:53 UTC

In “Exploring”  change ” their Location 1 degree for every Dog Sled they have” to

their Location X degrees where X is a positive integer equal to or less than the number of Dog Sleds they have

In “Ascendance” change “DoAs are failed, and a new Dynasty begins” to

DoAs are failed, the changes of the enacted DoA are made by the enacting Admin and a new Dynasty begins

In “Tags” change “correspond to a rules which in the ruleset’s table of contents are prefixed with a string containing only numerals” to

correspond to rules which are not subrules of any rule.

In “Dog Teams” change “may move all of that team’s Explorers” to

may move each team member of their team that they have permission to do so from

1 allows explorers to move in increments less than the number of Dog Sleds that they have
2 makes a passing DoA have their proposed changes actually do something
3 clarifies which rules have tags. It could currently be argued that any rule is prefixed with a string not containing a numeral if that string is only one character long
4 stops abduction

Story Post: Warning! Clandestine Cultists Compromising Cold Cruise

The radio aboard the Arkham, one of the ships anchored at the shore of basecamp, received a warning from Miskatonic today.

Apparently a local police investigation in the surroundings of Arkham city found a circle of witches and cultists performing a demonic ritual in the outskirts of the town. Some of the arrested people had connections to participants of this expedition.

Which participants these are, the radio operator unfortunately could not deduce, since a heavy storm disrupted the radio broadcast midway through.

Be on the lookout for suspiciously acting Explorers. Trust no one. Everyone could be a Cultist.

Proposal: Footprints in the Snow

Timed out 4-0. Enacted by card.

Adminned at 07 Jun 2017 16:32:28 UTC

Reword the “Hint” rule to:-

As a weekly action, the Expedition Leader should make a blog post that lists - for each Background except “Cultist” - the number of Explorers who have that Background.

Replacing the hint with something more informative, with Cultists and backgroundless players blurring together a bit.

Proposal: and nobody donated to boot

Timed out / reached quorum 6-0. Enacted by card.

Adminned at 06 Jun 2017 05:18:33 UTC

Set Boot Camp’s supplies to 50.

I don’t think anyone is going to transfer enough supplies to make that mission complete.

Proposal: Mountaintop Surveillance Camp

Timed out 2-4. Failed by card.

Adminned at 06 Jun 2017 05:17:40 UTC

If “Mission Possible” hasn’t passed, this proposal does nothing.

Add a new Mission:-

Title: Mountaintop Surveillance Camp
Synopsis: The mountaintop would be an excellent place to place a scouting camp.
Goal: Be the first Explorer to have created a Camp whose Latitude is more than 90º . The Participant is that Explorer.
Status: Pending
Reward: +6 Supplies if the Participant is a Scholar and/or a Spy; -6 Supplies (to a minimum of zero) if they are not.

Proposal: Merit

Timed out 1-2. Failed by card.

Adminned at 06 Jun 2017 05:16:46 UTC

Add a Section called “Merit”. Within it, add:

Each Explorer has an amount of Merit. That amount is equal to ten times the amount of Mission they have Completed (Completed Missions they have been a Participant of) divided by [10 + their Debt].

Imo a great mechanic from Pokes I, second only to “dynastic quota for actions”.

Merit is a simple point system which rewards “efficiency” and later determines who wins (I believe this would go for non-Cultists).

Proposal: Adventuring Rules!

Timed out 2-0. Enacted by card.

Adminned at 06 Jun 2017 05:15:48 UTC

In “Supplies”, replace “Explorers must spend 1 supplies each time they do an action which defined in rules that are Very Cold. Explorers must spend 1 supplies each time they do an action which defined in rules that are Extremely Cold. If an Explorer has zero or less supplies, they cannot take actions which are defined in rules that are Very Cold.” with:

Explorers without EXTRA CHEST HAIR must spend 1 Supplies each time they take an Outdoors Action in a Location which is below 0°C. If an Explorer without EXTRA CHEST HAIR has zero or less Supplies, they cannot take Outdoors Actions in Locations which are below 0°C.

Replace “Explorers may transfer supplies or dog sleds to the other Explorers at the same camp. Explorers may transfer supplies to their current camp.” with:-

Explorers may transfer supplies or dog sleds to the other Explorers at the same camp, as an Outdoors Action. Explorers may transfer supplies to their current camp, as an Outdoors Action.

Replace “As a daily action, an Explorer may take X Supplies from the Camp they are located at.” with:-

As a daily Outdoors action, an Explorer may take X Supplies from the Camp they are located at.

Replace “any Explorer that belongs to that Dog Team may move all of that team’s Explorers to that Camp” with:-

any Explorer that belongs to that Dog Team may move all of that team’s Explorers to that Camp as an Outdoors action

Replace “both relative to their current camp, by spending 1 Supplies” with:-

both relative to their current camp, by spending 1 Supplies as an Outdoors action

Replace “An Explorer may exit a Camp by setting their Location to their current Camp’s Latitude” with:-

An Explorer may exit a Camp by setting their Location to their current Camp’s Latitude, as an Outdoors action

Replace “may establish a new Camp by doing the following Atomic Action” with:-

may establish a new Camp by doing the following Outdoors Atomic Action

Replace “If an Explorer’s Location is a Latitude they may spend 1 supply to increase or decrease their Location 1 degree for every Dog Sled they have.” with:-

If an Explorer’s Location is a Latitude they may spend 1 supply to increase or decrease their Location 1 degree for every Dog Sled they have, as an Outdoors action.

Add to “Rules”

Explorers that hold a rule are considered to have EXTRA CHEST HAIR for actions defined in the rule they are holding.

like Kevan’s proposal but keeps the rules as abstract objects in the game.

Proposal: Mission Possible

Timed out/reached quorum 6-0. Enacted by card.

Adminned at 05 Jun 2017 15:19:35 UTC

In “Expedition Leading”, change “Reward: A certain profit” to:-

Reward: A certain profit or penalty

Add a new Mission:-

Title: Establishing a Dig Site
Synopsis: The expedition tracks through the heavy snow, comparing the sculpted wastes to their ancient maps and charts as they seek a place to begin their research.
Goal: Be the first Explorer to have created a Camp whose description contains the words “dig site”. The Participant is that Explorer.
Status: Pending
Reward: +6 Supplies if the Participant is a Scholar and/or a Cultist; -6 Supplies (to a minimum of zero) if they are not.

Replace “This always contains (tracks) between zero and three (both inclusive) Missions (these are all current Missions)” with:-

This tracks all Missions

Replace “This can be “Double Reward”, “None” or “Eldritch Horror”. When a Mission is created, this value is secretly randomly determined. ” with:-

This can be “Unknown”, “Double Reward”, “Eldritch Horror” or “None”, defaulting to “Unknown”. If a Mission has an Unknown Secret Reward, the Expedition Leader may assign it any secretly randomly determined value other than “Unknown”.

Remove “After the Expedition is Stamped, the Expedition Leader can replace the Completed Mission with a new one.”

A new Mission, and some tweaks.

Proposal: The Common Cold

48 hours old and couldn’t be enacted. Failed by card.

In “Supplies”, replace “Explorers must spend 1 supplies each time they do an action which defined in rules that are Very Cold. Explorers must spend 1 supplies each time they do an action which defined in rules that are Extremely Cold. any Explorer that belongs to that Dog Team may move all of that team’s Explorers to that Camp as an Outdoors action

Reword the rule “Temperature” to:-

Each Camp and Latitude has a Temperature. Temperature is a value in degrees Celsius, which is an integer which can be negative. References to “°C” are considered to refer to degrees Celsius.

The default Temperature for any entity that has Temperature is -25°C.

Repeal the dynastic rules “Camp Rules” and “Rules”. Remove “Adventurers with EXTRA CHEST CHAIR are immune to cost-increasing effects described in the Temperature Rule and may at-will ENCOURAGE other Adventurers.” from the ruleset.

Remove “Rules which are only Very Cold have the text ” V.” at the end of their title. Rules which are Extremely Cold have the text ” E.” at the end of their title.” from the ruleset if it exists.

Going further than Card’s coldness-in-titles rider and replacing the rules-have-temperatures-based-on-location mechanic with some actions being clearly flagged as cold-related if you’re standing in a cold place.

It’s more thematically intuitive to flag these things case-by-case (so that an abstract mechanic like closing a completed mission doesn’t require supplies), and clearer for some situations - if the Camping rule is Very Cold, do I spend 1 Supply to take its Atomic Action, or seven Supplies to take the seven sub-actions of its Atomic Action, or eight for both?

Proposal: Camp Upgrades

Timed out 1-5. Failed by card.

Adminned at 03 Jun 2017 19:58:14 UTC

Add to “Camps”

By paying 5 supplies, an Explorer can deploy one of these Camp Upgrades at a Camp they’re at. A Camp can only have none (inclusive) to two (inclusive) Upgrades and by default don’t have any. Camp Upgrades can be removed by any Explorer at that Camp by paying 7 supplies.

- Heating: If the Camp’s Temperature is different than 20º at any time, it then becomes 20º instantly after.
- Archaeology Tent: All Scholars learn one extra (randomly chosen) word of the Secret Creed (one which they don’t already know by virtue of Rules) when this is deployed.
- Occultism Tent: Any Explorer may sacrifice a Dog Sled while they’re at the Camp this is deployed at to increase or decrease The Ancient One’s Satisfaction by 5, plus 5 more per existing Archaeology Tent.
- Logistics Tent: Choose a Mission when this Perk is deployed. That Mission’s Secret Treasure becomes ‘Double Treasure’, if it weren’t already.
- Supply Flare: The Camp this is deployed at gains 10 Supplies.

Making Camps more useful.

Proposal: Rule of Cool

Self-killed. Failed by card.

Adminned at 03 Jun 2017 16:58:40 UTC

Add to the abilities of the “Military”:

The Military may Fight Otherworldly Evil head-on (or Assist it), and reduce or increase the Ancient One’s Satisfaction by 1 per 1 supply they spend for this purpose.

Story Post: WRESTLING A BEAR

I was innocently wandering around Boot Camp, when suddenly… A Boot-bearing bear in Boot Camp! The bear looked very proud of its boots. I suspect he stole them from our stock. We have so many, it is hard to keep track. The bear also looked somewhat upset. Apparently someone had been throwing tools at it! What an odd thing to do. Happily, I bore boots too. Who doesn’t, in this cold? So the bear and I had a little boots contest. I believe I won! I smashed the bear with some extra boots that I found lying around.

Proposal: A different sort of hint

Reached quorum 6-0. Enacted by card.

Adminned at 03 Jun 2017 16:56:25 UTC

Add to “Backgrounds”

An Explorer may opt to not have any Backgrounds assigned to them by privatly communicating this to the Expedition Leader. 72 hours after TIME, the Expedition Leader assigns Backgrounds to each Explorer that has not opted out of having Backgrounds.

If an Explorer has unidled or joined and the Expedition Leader has not received a private message from them up to 12 hours since they joined or unidled stating they opt out of having Backgrounds, the Expedition Leader assigns them 2 Backgrounds in a timely manner.

Make a new rule “Hint” with the text

If every Explorer, besides the Expedition Leader and Explorers that have opted out, have their Backgrounds the Expedition Leader makes a public “Warning!” post. This post contains some flavor appropriate text that informs Explorers that there are possible traitors among them and to be on the lookout for suspicous activity.

Replace the text TIME with the time and date this proposal was enacted.

Add to “Temperature”

Rules which are only Very Cold have the text ” V.” at the end of their title. Rules which are Extremely Cold have the text ” E.” at the end of their title.

Hint with a rider.

Proposal: Cuthulu Victory!

Reached quorum 6 votes to 2. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 03 Jun 2017 10:22:58 UTC

Change “Ascendance” to

A “Declaration of Ascendance” (or DoA) is an Official Voteable matter titled “Declaration of Ascendance”. A DoA should propose, at least:
*The addition of a rule creating an NPC called “Cuthulu”
*Changing the term “Expedition Leader” to “Ancient One”
*Changing the term “Explorer”
*Adding a rule naming Cuthulu as the Ancient One.
*Adding a rule that explicitly names Explorers who were Cultists and declaring them to be Loyal.

An Explorer who is a Cultist may not achieve victory individually. If any other rule indicates that a Cultist has achieved victory, that Cultist may post a Declaration of Ascendance. Upon posting a DoA the game immediatly goes into a Hiatus.

When a DoA fails and there are no pending DoA or DoV, hiatus ends. If the Explorer posting a DoA is not a Cultist, or has not achieved victory, the Expedition Leader should make a comment containing only the text “INVALID”, which makes the DoA invalidated. If the Expedition Leader has made a comment contain only the text “INVALID” and the Explorer has achieved victory and is a Cultist, the DoA is instead not invalidated.

A DoA may be failed if any of the following are true:
*It has been invalidated by the Expedition Leader.
*It has been open for voting for at least 12 hours, and the number of Explorers who are not voting AGAINST it is less than Quorum.
*It has been open for voting for at least 48 hours and cannot be Enacted.

A DoA may be enacted if any of the following are true:
*It has been open for voting for at least 12 hours, has a number of FOR Votes that exceed or equal Quorum, and either the Expedition Leader has Voted FOR it or it has no AGAINST Votes.
*It has been open for voting for at least 24 hours, has a number of FOR Votes that exceed or equal Quorum, and has a number of AGAINST Votes lesser than half of Quorum, rounded down.
*It has been open for voting for at least 48 hours, has a number of Votes that exceed or equal Quorum, and more than half of its valid Votes are FOR.

When a DoA is enacted, all other active DoVs and DoAs are failed, and a new Dynasty begins with the NPC Cuthulu as its Expedition Leader. The Hiatus continues until a loyal Explorer makes an Ascension Address by posting an entry in the “Ascension Address” category - this should specify a theme appropriate for a Lovecraftian horror being the Emperor of the new Dynasty, and may optionally specify a number of dynastic rules to keep. Upon posting such an Ascension Address and if a quorum of loyal Explorers have voted in favor of it, the Ruleset is updated to reflect any changed terms, and any dynastic rules which were not listed to be kept are repealed.

The author of the Declaration of Ascendance cannot make another DoA until 120 hours (5 days) have passed.

An NPC is an entity which is present in the GNDT and gamestate. Unless otherwise stated, rules treat the an NPC like an Explorer. Keep in mind when creating rules that an NPC can’t make posts or any other actions unless specified by a rule to be considered to have done an action.

I thought that the DoA was like a DoV but someone pointed out to me that they are not and in fact don’t even end the current Dynasty if it was passed. This makes it more like a DoV.

Proposal: Incentives for Charting the Antarctica

Self-killed. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 02 Jun 2017 10:41:11 UTC

1. Revise the current Exploration rule to use Blognomickian Charting Unit (BCU):

Each Explorer has an unsigned integer of Blognomickian Charting Unit (BCU) tracked in the GNDT.

2. Append new terms on Exploration rule regarding the university’s programme:

Each explorer earns one (1) BCU for each unique latitude they have travelled.

Create one Mission entry for each award from this Miskatonic University’s Antarctic Charting Incentive Programme:
For every milestone of ten (10) BCU charted in the Dynasty, The Miskatonic University automatically awards 4+1D6 Credits to be distributed only amongst the first explorers who manage to complete the particular milestone together. (E.g. there is only one award for the first explorers to have 10 BCU, then another award for the first to reach 20 BCU, and so on)

The award is distributed equally by the explorers but cannot be broken into fractions. The excessive credit value can be given to any of the explorer in the winning team or, if there is no conscensus between the team member, donated to the base camp’s supply.

3. Append this term in the Debt rule:

A Credit is a negative value in an explorer’s Debt counter. An explorer can trade each of their credit value with one (1) Supplies from the Base Camp’s supply.

Miskatonic University’s Comitee of Antarctic Research are happy to grant you even more credits for the discovery of things Beyond The Threshold. Find the signs, find them!

Proposal: Cleaning Up the Expedition Manual

Self-killed. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 02 Jun 2017 10:40:07 UTC

1. Under Rules rule, append the following term:

At all time, rules which have the same name can be cleaned up into a single rule if the context is related to the same subject matter.

Each rule may track the enactment date time and the name of the explorer submitting the proposal and other reference information as necessary (such as the URL to the proposal) for the purpose of dispute resolution reference.

The order of the rules in the wiki doesn’t necessarily relate to the order of enactment and is preferably ordered by the importance of the subject matters.

Only in the attempt to make a rule more legible to explorers, the formating of the Dynastic Rules in the wiki can be modified with no changes to the specific wordings of the original proposal. If the meaning is altered in anyway, the changes can be reverted back to the original version. If there are any dispute between the revisions, the interpretation of the originally approved proposal wordings will prevail. This specific paragraph of this rule will be removed immediately in the case that an edit war is arising and subsequent rule formatting changes will have to go through formal proposal submission.

2. Change the name of Expedition Leading rule into Mission to match the content.

3. Move this temperature related term from Camps

The default temperature for a Camp is 20°C.

to Temperature as stated in point 5.

4. Move this temperature related term from Rules

The temperature of a Rule that is held by an Explorer is the same as the temperature of the location that Explorer is in.

to Temperature as stated in point 5. (And in accordance with this Keep Your Core Warm proposal, revise Rule to Dynastic Rule)

5. Revise wording for Temperature rule from:

All Dynastic Rules have a Temperature. Temperature is a value in Blognomickian Temperature Units, which is an integer (which can be negative) and can be employed as XXX BTU, where XXX is the temperature value in Blognomickian Temperature Units.
The default Temperature for any entity that has Temperature is -25°C.
The list of entities which have Temperature are:
* Dynastic Rules
* Camps
* Latitudes
A Temperature of -50°C or lower is Extremely Cold. A Temperature of -25°C or lower is Very Cold.

to (major differences highlighted):

Temperature is expressed as a signed integer value measured in Blognomickian Temperature Units (BTU).
Each and every one of the following entities has a Temperature:
Entities     | Default Temperature
Dynastic Rules | -25°C
Camps       | 20°C
Latitudes     | -25°C

A new camp has a default Temperature of 20°C and other entities which has a Temperature has a default Temperature of -25°C.

Temperature can also be expressed interchangeably in the following terms:
Temperature     | Term
20°C         | Warm
-25°C or lower | Very Cold
-50°C or lower | Extremely Cold

The Temperature of a Dynastic Rule that is held by an Explorer is the same as the Temperature of the Location that Explorer is in.

Wow, a new edition of the Expedition Manual has been published, I probably have to sit in the corner of the camp and read this through carefully.

Call for Judgment: Keeping a secret a secret

Timed out 1 vote to 3. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 03 Jun 2017 10:00:19 UTC

If upon the enaction of this CfJ, the proposal “Cold (and Hot) War” is pending it is considered to not contain the text “- Sabotage a Camp: Via letting all of the cold flow in and other hijinks, that Camp (and all of its content’s) Temperature lowers by 500 BTU. This action is performed by privately communicating it to the Expedition Leader, along their current Camp (this will be the Sabotaged Camp, even if the Spy move later), and then the Expedition Leader applying the effects as appropriate in a timely fashion.”

If upon the enaction of this CfJ the ruleset contians the text “- Sabotage a Camp: Via letting all of the cold flow in and other hijinks, that Camp (and all of its content’s) Temperature lowers by 500 BTU. This action is performed by privately communicating it to the Expedition Leader, along their current Camp (this will be the Sabotaged Camp, even if the Spy move later), and then the Expedition Leader applying the effects as appropriate in a timely fashion.” then remove that text from the ruleset.

In my opinion, having half of the Backgrounds being secret, as in having it impossible via the game mechanics to reveal beyond a shadow of a doubt the secret Backgrounds is important to keeping the secret roles aspect of the game. Seeing as “Cold (and Hot) War” has a chance of passing due to timing out if Sphinx doesn’t vote at all, I feel the need to make this CfJ. If enacted that proposal will allow someone who is a spy is able to confirm they are a spy via making a specific Camp cold.
