Proposal: Moving Goalposts

Passes 3-0. — Quirck

Adminned at 02 Feb 2016 23:54:38 UTC

Add to rule “Calvinball” subrule “Scoring” with this text:

All Children have a numerical “Score” which defaults to zero and is tracked in the GNDT.

If a Child or their Best Friend possesses the Ball, the Child may attempt to score by making a story post with the title “I throw between X and Y.” where X and Y are any two members of the opposing team, and rolls DICE5 to determine the outcome: on 1 the Ball is intercepted by X. On 2, 3, or 4 the Child ‘s score is increased by one and the Ball is dropped. On 5 the Ball is intercepted by Y.

You see Billy and Suzy, members of your rivals, the green team, standing far apart from eachother. A beautiful empty section stretches between them, and you can see your teammate Georgie waving to you behind them. You tighten your grip on the ball and take aim…

Scoring carries a high chance of the enemy coming into possession of the ball, hopefully to make gameplay smooth and balanced.

Proposal: Never Had a Friend Like Me

Passes 5-1. — Quirck

Adminned at 01 Feb 2016 12:46:53 UTC

Add the follow text to the end of the subrule “Fickleness of Youth”:

Any Child who is not Best Friends with any Imaginary Friend may become so by making a story post with the title “I befriend X”, where X is the name of an existing Imaginary Friend that does not have a Best Friend, and updating the GNDT.

Proposal: It Wasn’t Me

Times out @ 6-0, Enacting.

Adminned at 31 Jan 2016 17:21:08 UTC

Enact a new rule “Tricks”:-

Each Imaginary Friend may have a Trick. Any Child may perform the Trick of an Imaginary Friend by increasing their own Trouble by 1, then applying the effects of the Trick.

Add a new paragraph to “Impulsive Puppy”:-

Impulsive Puppy’s Trick is to gain possession of the Calvinball if nobody possesses it.

In “Best Friends”, replace “If an Imaginary Friend is Best Friends with a Child, only that Child may cast votes on behalf of it.” with:-

If an Imaginary Friend is Best Friends with a Child, only that Child may cast votes on behalf of it or perform its Trick.

Proposal: Simplified Passing

Quorums 9-1. — Quirck

Adminned at 29 Jan 2016 14:06:56 UTC

Create a subrule to “Calvinball” with the title “Passing” and the text:-

If a Child possesses the Ball, or is Best Friends with an Imaginary Friend who possesses the Ball, then they may Throw the Ball by updating the GNDT with a note of: “I throw to X” where X is the name of a Child or Imaginary Friend who is not currently in possession of the Ball, and updating the GNDT by removing the Ball from their possession and putting it in the possession of X.

Randomly select a child and put the ball in their possession.

Bare bones passing rules. Plus picking up the Ball so we can play.

Proposal: Be fair

Quorums 9-0. — Quirck

Adminned at 29 Jan 2016 14:03:55 UTC

If the proposal “There Can Be Only One” failed, this proposal does nothing.

For every Child that has more than one Best Friend, remove all their Best Friends except the leftmost one in the GNDT column “Best Friend” and increase their Trouble by one.

Forcing the cap on Best Friends. Better do this voluntarily, of course

Tantusar becomes idle. Quorum for proposals is 7.

Proposal: Teams 2

Quorums 9-0. — Quirck

Adminned at 28 Jan 2016 08:46:50 UTC

In the rule Imaginary Friends, append the following to the end of the first paragraph:

Each Imaginary Friend is tracked in a separate row on the GNDT.

In the rule Calvinball, replace:

Possession is tracked in the GNDT field “Ball”: if possessed by a Child, that Child’s GNDT field reads “Me”; if possessed by an Imaginary Friend, the GNDT field of that Friend’s Best Friend contains the name of that Imaginary Friend.

with:

Possession is tracked in the GNDT field “Ball”: if possessed by any Child or Imaginary Friend, their GNDT field reads “Me”.

Enact a subrule “Teams” to the rule “Calvinball” with the following text:

Each Child and each Imaginary Friend is on a Team, tracked on the GNDT under “Team”. Any Child or Imaginary Friend is a Teammate of another Child or Imaginary Friend if they are on the same team. If a Child joins the game or a Imaginary Friend is created, they are assigned to the team with the fewest members, or, in case of a tie, to a random team among those tied for the fewest members.

Of all the Children and Imaginary Friends randomly select half of them, rounded up, and set their “Team” to “Red”. For the rest, set their “Team” to “Blue”.

Proposal: There Can Be Only One

Passes 4-1. — Quirck

Adminned at 28 Jan 2016 08:36:08 UTC

In the rule “Best Friends”, change this text:

Each Imaginary Friend may be Best Friends with a single Child; this is tracked in the Child’s GNDT row under “Friend”.

to this:

Each Imaginary Friend may be Best Friends with a single Child; this is tracked in the Child’s GNDT row under “Best Friend”. A Child may not gain a Best Friend unless they currently have none.

And add a subrule to “Best Friends” called “Fickleness of Youth” with the following text:

Any Child may exchange their current Best Friend for an Imaginary Friend who lacks a Best Friend, as long as that Child has only one Best Friend. In doing so, the Child gains 1 Trouble. This action is taken by creating Story Post with the title “I exchange X for Y.” where X is their current Best Friend and Y is the Best Friend they intend to acquire.

Any Child may decide to abandon a Best Friend, thereby removing it from the Child’s Best Friend list, by making a Story Post with the title “I abandon X.” X being one of their current Best Friends.

Taking away multiples and introducing swapping.

Proposal: Head’s Up!

Times out at 3-5. Cannot be Enacted, so Failing.
~lilomar

Adminned at 26 Jan 2016 23:51:21 UTC

If there is no Rule titled “Calvinball” this proposal does nothing.

Remove the last line of the Rule titled “Calvinball” and add the text:-

If the Calvinball is possessed by an Imaginary Friend who has no Best Friend, then the Ball is automatically Dropped.

If the Ball is Dropped then it becomes in the Possession of nobody.

Create a subrule to “Calvinball” with the title “Passing” and the text:-

If a Child possesses the Ball, or is Best Friends with an Imaginary Friend who possesses the Ball, then they may Throw the Ball by creating a Throw Post. A Throw Post is a Story Post with a title of the form “X passes to Y” where X is the name of the Child or Imaginary Friend who currently owns the Ball and Y is another Child or Imaginary Friend.

If it has been 24 hours since the Ball was Thrown, and if the Child who Threw the Ball possesses the Ball, or is Best Friends with the Imaginary Friend who possesses the Ball, then the Ball is either Passed, Intercepted, or Dropped, according to the following procedure.
-If there are no successful Interception Attempts and no successful Strip Attempts on the Throw Post, then the Ball is Passed to Y.
-If there is at least one successful Interception Attempt on the Throw Post, then the Ball is Intercepted by the Child or Imaginary Friend who is named in the first line of the oldest successful Interception Attempt
-If there is at least one successful Strip Attempt on the Throw Post, then the Ball is Dropped.

When the Ball is Passed to, or Intercepted by a Child or Imaginary Friend, they come into possession of the Ball.

Create a subrule to “Passing” with the title “Interference” and the text:-

Each Child may make either an Intercept Attempt or a Strip Attempt on a Throw Post.

An Intercept Attempt is a comment on a Throw Post that Begins with the word “Intercept” and then either the name of the Child making the Intercept Attempt, or the name of an Imaginary Friend that is Best Friends with that Child.
However, a comment is not an Intercept Attempt if the Child who posted it has already made an Intercept Attempt or a Strip Attempt on the Throw Post it is attached to.

A Strip Attempt is a comment on a Throw Post that Begins with the word “Strip”.
However, a comment is not a Strip Attempt if the Child who posted it has already made an Intercept Attempt or a Strip Attempt on the Throw Post it is attached to.

After making an Intercept or Strip Attempt, a child should roll DICE100 in the GNDT and make a comment in the same Throw Post stating whether or not their Attempt was successful, this is called Confirming the Attempt.
An Intercept Attempt is successful if the Child making it Confirms it and the GNDT result is greater than 85.
A Strip Attempt is successful if the Child making it Confirms it and the GNDT result is greater than 75.
Children may not roll on the GNDT more than once per Attempt.

Passing and Intercepting are given different names so that they can be tracked as stats later if so desired.
Picking up a Dropped Ball is left as an exercise for the reader.

Proposal: Teams

Failing due to Self Kill.
~lilomar

Adminned at 25 Jan 2016 18:55:02 UTC

Append the following text to the rule “Calvinball”, if such a rule exists:

Each Child and each Imaginary Friend is on a Team, tracked on the Wiki page called “Calvinball Teams.” Any Child or Imaginary Friend is a Teammate of another Child or Imaginary Friend if they are on the same team. If a Child joins the game or a Imaginary Friend is created, they are assigned to the team with the fewest members, or, in case of a tie, to a random team among those tied for the fewest members.

Of the 13 active Children and Imaginary Friends, randomly assign 7 of them to the Red Team and the rest to the Blue Team.

Proposal: Sooner or Later…

Times out and Passes 7-1.

Enact a new rule, “Calvinball”:

The Calvinball (or “Ball”) is an object that is either in the possession of a Child, an Imaginary Friend or nobody. By default, it is in the possession of nobody.

Possession is tracked in the GNDT field “Ball”: if possessed by a Child, that Child’s GNDT field reads “Me”; if possessed by an Imaginary Friend, the GNDT field of that Friend’s Best Friend contains the name of that Imaginary Friend.

If the Calvinball is possessed by an Imaginary Friend who has no Best Friend, then the Ball is automatically dropped and becomes in the possession of nobody.

Proposal: Checking It Twice

Quorums 7-0. — Quirck

Adminned at 23 Jan 2016 20:38:42 UTC

Enact a subrule to “Imaginary Friends” called “Father Winter”:-

If there is a Nice Kid, and if the Nice Kid has voted on a particular Proposal, then Father Winter votes FOR that Proposal if the Nice Kid is voting FOR it, and AGAINST that Proposal if the Nice Kid is voting AGAINST it. A Child is a Nice Kid if their Trouble is lower than that of all other Children.

Attempting a cut-down version, as suggested.

Proposal: Excitable Dog

Proposal: A Bad Case of the Wiggles

Passes 4-1. — Quirck

Adminned at 23 Jan 2016 20:32:36 UTC

Create a new subrule to “Imaginary Friends” with the title “Doctor Wiggle”, with the following text:

For each Proposal, the Child voting on behalf Doctor Wiggle rolls DICE9. On a 1-4, Doctor Wiggle votes FOR. On 5-8, Doctor Wiggle votes AGAINST. On 9, Doctor Wiggle votes DEFERENTIAL.

Proposal: On the Naughty List

Times out 1+1 to 3+1. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 23 Jan 2016 16:30:31 UTC

Add a subrule to “Imaginary Friends” called “Father Winter” with this text:

Father Winter (he) may only vote on something when the Child with the current lowest Trouble (called the Nice Kid) and/or the Child with the current highest Trouble (called the Naughty Kid) have/has already voted on the matter.

If the Nice Kid has voted, and the Naughty Kid has either not voted, or casts a different vote than the Nice Kid, or if the Naughty Kid has voted and the Nice Kid has not, Father Christmas votes the same as the Nice Kid and/or the opposite of the Naughty Kid. (If the opposite of the vote cannot be determined, he may not vote at that time on that matter.)

If the Nice Kid and Naughty Kid have cast the same vote, he may not vote on that matter.

If multiple Children qualify for the position of Nice Kid or Naughty Kid due to a tie, they all share the respective title, and he considers a majority rule to determine their votes, and follows his previously outlined behaviors. If majority is not reached from the Nice Kids or the Naughty Kids, he considers it a lack of a vote by their respective titles.

He cannot be Best Friends with the Naughty Kid. If his Best Friend becomes the Naughty Kid, the Nice Kid is now his Best Friend (if there are multiple Nice Kids, one is chosen at random).

If all Children have the same Trouble count, none of them are the Nice Kid or the Naughty Kid.

Father Winter’s votes count as as many votes as there are Nice Kids and Naughty Kids combined.

We’ve all heard the stories of the fat man who comes down the chimney and puts rocks in our candy. What a huge bummer this guy is! It’s like he was designed by our parents to make us pretend to be good. Well, at least being on the Nice List comes with benefits…

Proposal: It Was Like That When I Got Here

Reached quorum 4+1 to 0+1. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 22 Jan 2016 14:12:14 UTC

Enact a new rule, “Trouble”:-

Each Child has a numerical amount of Trouble, tracked in the GNDT and defaulting to zero.

Add the following sentence to the end of the rule “Imaginary Friends”:-

When a Child casts an AGAINST vote on behalf of an Imaginary Friend, that Child must also gain 1 Trouble.

Proposal: I Didn’t Say It, He Did

Reached quorum 5 votes to 0 (4 Children, 1 Friend). Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 22 Jan 2016 14:10:28 UTC

In “Imaginary Friends”, replace “the name of the Imaginary Friend and the vote that Imaginary Friend casts on that Proposal” with:-

the name of the Imaginary Friend and the vote that Imaginary Friend casts on that Proposal (as a word rather than as a voting icon)

Capitalise the words “FOR” and “AGAINST” throughout “Imaginary Friends” and its subrules, where those words refer to votes.

A fix for the problem of Imaginary Friend votes overwriting Child votes. (It also makes vote-tallying a bit easier for admins using the utility script, although I’m not sure how important this is.)

Proposal: Hives

Queen Bee votes FOR any proposal that adds additional rules and/or behaviors or amends previous rules and/or behaviors to Queen Bee, or which adds and/or amends rules and/or behaviors to bee-related things, and AGAINST repeals of same, otherwise defers to her Best Friend.

She considers “bee-related things” to mean Imaginary Friends who are bees (such as herself), and any matter or Imaginary Friend that mentions bees, parts of bee anatomy, beekeepers, beeswax, bee communication, honey, royal jelly, bee hives, bee larvae, honeycomb, bee stings, pollen, and/or flowers.

I hope this is an alright first proposal

Call for Judgment: Separate Votes

Proposal: Day Watch

Reached quorum 7 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 21 Jan 2016 12:34:22 UTC

If there exists a subrule “Best Friends”, change it into a separate dynastic rule.

Maybe since the text of the subrule doesn’t describe “the conditions under which the Imaginary Friend votes For, Against, DEF, or otherwise, on a Proposal”, the “Best Friends” isn’t actually an Imaginary Friend, but I’d still like to keep it clear.

Enact a subrule to “Imaginary Friends” called “Best Friends”:-

Each Imaginary Friend may be Best Friends with a single Child; this is tracked in the Child’s GNDT row under “Friend”. By default, an Imaginary Friend is Best Friends with the Child who proposed the proposal that created the Imaginary Friend; if this would not be possible, the Imaginary Friend has no Best Friend.

If an Imaginary Friend is Best Friends with a Child, only that Child may cast votes on behalf of it.

Proposal: Imaginary Friends

Quorums 5-0. — Quirck

Adminned at 19 Jan 2016 09:30:01 UTC

Enact a new rule, “Imaginary Friends,” with the following text:-

An Imaginary Friend counts as a Child for the purposes of voting and quorum on Proposals, but not on Calls for Judgement or Declarations of Victory. Each Imaginary Friend is listed as subrule to this rule, with the title of the subrule being the name of the Imaginary Friend, and the text of the subrule describing the conditions under which the Imaginary Friend votes For, Against, DEF, or otherwise, on a Proposal. Any Child may cast a vote on behalf of an Imaginary Friend by posting a comment on a Proposal that contains the name of the Imaginary Friend and the vote that Imaginary Friend casts on that Proposal, as long as the vote is in accordance with the conditions described in the subrule for that Imaginary Friend.

This introduces the main mechanic I’m interested in exploring, a set of non-player entities with the ability to vote.

Ascension Address: A Mostly Empty Playground

A plastic bag is caught in the weeds that grow from the cracks in the concrete play surface. In the distance, you hear the creaking of a chain as the chilly breeze blows a swing back and forth. There’s a few other children here, but mostly the place is desolate. The oldest one gestures for you to come over.

“Wanna play a game?” he asks. “Yeah, I know it looks like we don’t have enough kids for a game. But let me tell you a secret.”

He leans in, conspiratorially. When you’re eight years old, you hope you’ll be half as cool as him. “We all have imaginary friends, right? They can play too. No, it’s not dumb. It’s cool. And then we’ll have enough to play a game. C’mon, do you want to play or not?”

Unbeleaguered Victory

“If the Director has achieved victory and is not Beleaguered, he may reveal the name of the Clerk with the highest Appraisal score: upon doing so, that Clerk achieves victory.”

Per the previous proposal, I have achieved victory. Quirck is the Clerk with the highest current Appraisal score. (They’ve said they don’t want to run a dynasty, but these values were set much earlier in the dynasty and left unchanged. A winner always has the option to “pass this role to another Clerk at this point by making a post to that effect” after their DoV has passed.)
