[Taste] Extreme Lactose Delicacy

One would think that a mix of rotten dairy products, rotten water, and fictional curdled milk harvested from the craters of the moon would have an unpleasing taste, but I have found quite the opposite. This “Extreme” Lactose Delicacy is a gift from the heavens (literally). The over-rotting taste of the Casu Marzu balences perfectly with the non-existant taste of the moon cheese while the pepper ‘spices’ the whole dish up. With the addition of stagnant water… well, you get the point. Delicious. 5/5 stars.

[Guessing] Douglas Adams?

Is this the ‘Restaurant at the end of the Universe’ Dynasty?

Uhm…could I request a GNDT password - i thought I’d remembered mine but it seems not - and could somebody please drop my guesses down to two?

Do You Believe in Reincarnation?

Please could I be unidled?
Thank you muchly

What the?!? Rogue Admin???

Okay, that’s resolved, but seriously, why is the Time Bomb still around?

Proposal: Imports

Self-killed, final vote 8 against 3 for  -Darth

Adminned at 01 Feb 2009 14:45:29 UTC

Add a new subrule 2.7.4 (Imports) to rule 2.7 (Cosmology):

Any member of the staff may, without changing their station, pay 8 credits to get an ingredient from any station on the solar map. This may be done even if the importing member does not have a vehicle.

This could also be helpful for when the solar map gets long.

Proposal: [Hint] Time for a crash course

Quorumed -Darth

Adminned at 01 Feb 2009 13:13:57 UTC

Add a new sub-rule called, “Crash” under rule “Vehicles”:

As a daily action, a Member with a Vehicle (known as the Attacker) may spend X Fuel in an attempt to crash into some other Member (knows as the Target) who has the same Location as the Attacker. The value for X must be at least 2. The attacker shall then add their vehicle’s Speed to X, and roll DICEX. If the result is equal to or greater than the Endurance of the Target’s Vehicle (for this special case, if the Target has no Vehicle, their endurance is considered 3) the Target has Crashed: their Bowl and Table are emptied and 1 of their Guesses is transfered to the Attacker.

In rule “Vehicles” reword sentence “This is tracked in the GNDT. Vehicles may be added to the vehicles page by the writer, and the amount of fuel each vehicle can carry, and their Speed is described there.” so that instead it reads “This is tracked in the GNDT. Vehicles may be added to the vehicles page by the writer, and the amount of fuel each vehicle can carry, their Speed and Endurance is described there.”

Proposal: A Difference of Opinion

Self-killed -Darth

Adminned at 01 Feb 2009 13:11:19 UTC

Add the following sub-rule after sub-rule 2.5.2 Practice:

Chef Showdown
If two or more Contestants have created a “[Taste]” Story Post using the same Recipe and different descriptions of that Recipe, thereby known as the Contested Recipe, the author of the most recent post shall create a Story Post with the subject of “[Chef Showdown]” followed by the name of the Contested Recipe. This shall be known as a Chef Showdown (or Showdown) over the Contested Recipe. In the event there are pre-existing Showdowns over the same Recipe, the new Chef Showdown shall also include at the end of its subject a number representing its position in that sequence.

A Chef Showdown shall contain in its body the text of each description posted in “[Taste]” Story Posts about the Contested Recipe, attributed to the Contestant that wrote it.  In the case that two Contestants have written the same description of the Contested Recipe, those descriptions and their attributions after the first shall be omitted from the Showdown. In the case that a single Challenger has written more than one of the remaining descriptions, those descriptions and their attributions, excluding the most recent one, shall be omitted from the Showdown. Each of the included Contestants shall be known as a Challenger over the Contested Recipe for the duration of the Chef Showdown. In the case that another Showdown is to be started over the same Recipe, that Showdown shall not be started until all preceeding Showdowns over the same Recipe have ended, in which event it shall then be started. A Chef Showdown shall end 24 hours after it is started.

When a Chef Showdown ends, an Admin shall post in the comments a tally of the number of times each Challenger over the Contested Recipe has been mentioned in the comments on that Chef Showdown before it ended by Members of the Staff who are not Challengers. If more than one Challenger is mentioned in those comments by any single Member of Staff, only the last mention by that Member shall be tallied. When the tallying is complete, the Challenger with the most tallied mentions may move one Recipe from the Table of another Challenger in the Showdown onto his own Table. In the event that there are no legal Recipes to select from, that Challenger may add up to three Ingredients from the Ingredient List to their Bowl without incurring any cost for this action and regardless of the Station of that Ingredient.

A true opinion leader must ride the capricious waves of Fad if he wishes to stay ahead of his competitors.

Proposal: -Cooperative Play, WAK addition

Quorumed, final vote 13-0 -Darth

Adminned at 30 Jan 2009 15:26:42 UTC

Add new sub-rule 2.2.2 (Cooperation) under rule 2.2 (Guessing):

As a daily action, a Member of the Staff that has at least one guess may spend 5 Credits and 1 Guess to increase the Guesses of another Member by 1. This action can only be taken if both Members are currently on the same Station, and only if that Station is not Jump. As a weekly action, the Writer may increase his own Guesses by 1.

As a plus, arthexis will give a free guess to the person that includes the best idea for a new vehicle in a comment to this proposal. Of course, he will judge what best means, but he has a feeling it will have to do with being funny and related to the theme.

[Guessing] Uhhh…

Is this the “Race to make the best recipe with moon cheese Dynasty”?

Idlehammer ++++

Teucer, The Cube, Jmrdex, and SingularByte are due to go idle.

Heads up, take 2.

@arth: You still should include the station of ingredients with their names on the recipies. People are just cleaning the fridge and then posting new of the same name ingredients with different stations.

[Guessing] Here goes nothing

I’m going to guess: “Race for a Morsel on Mercury”

The Cube actually did idle

His last comment was on the 22nd and it’s currently the 29th. He’s idle.

Story Post: [TASTE] Banana & Cheese Cream Pie

Bananas are awesome.
Cheese is awesome.
Cream is awesome.
Pie is awesome.

To saw I was excited about tasting this recepie would be an understatement. And yet it didn’t disappoint. On a scale of one to delicious, this rates beyond delicious. The only complaint I can have is that all other foods are going to taste inferior from here on out. But as long as I can keep making myself the tasty, tasty, Banana and Cheese Cream Pie I don’t really care. Its that good. A++. Would Taste Again.

[ Darth Cliche idled The Cube a day early, and mentioned it in passing in comments on a CfJ he happened to be reading. It’d be clearer - for the benefit of the idled player, more than anyone - if idlings had to be announced in blog posts. ]

In Rule 1.2 (Members of the Staff), after “Admins may render a Member of the Staff Idle if that Member of the Staff has asked to become Idle or if that Member of the Staff has not posted a entry or comment for more than 7 days.”, add:-

In the latter case, the Admin must announce the idling in a blog post.

Also replace the word “her” with “his” throughout Rule 1.2. (The rest of the ruleset uses “his”.)

Lets not be hasty now…

Some now idle members, like the cube, should not have gone idle. He will go idle tomorrow, but that is not the point. Don’t idle people until they are actually idle. Also, Spikebrennan seems to be still adding to the ingredients page even though he has not posted on the main site. Is he truly idle?

Take me to the Moon

I don’t have an account to the wiki yet. Would someone kindly add Moon to the Solar Map on my behalf right after the first Earth?

Add a sub-rule called “Enhancements” to rule “Recipes”:

Some Recipes may provide enhancements when eaten. An Enhancement is a non-italics text that follows a Recipe on the Recipes wiki document, and which can only be set, added and removed by the Writer, or through a successful Proposal or Call for Judgment. As a daily action, a non-Translocating Member may eat one of the Recipes on their table. Upon doing so, the Member shall follow the instructions laid on the Enhancement’s text. Enhancements are not allowed to change the ruleset, either directly or indirectly.

If a Recipe has no Enhancement, the Writer may add an Enhancement to it at any time.

Unofficial Hints

:for: This page exists to track all the public unofficial hints. Current Hints:

There are an even number of characters in the theme, including spaces.
The letter “A” appears in the theme 3 times.
The letter “C appears in the theme 2 times.
The letter “M” appears in the theme 2 times (Qwazukee has now released this information).
The letter “S” appears in the theme 1 time.
The word “Super” does not appear in the theme (Darn you, Clucky and your lying ways! :Veto: ).
The word “Alien” does not appear in the theme.
The word “Competition” does not appear int the theme.
The word “Dinner” does not appear in the theme.
No forms of the word “Cook” appear in the theme.
The name of a celestial body appears in the theme.
The theme does not have to do with TV/Movies or Catering/Delivery.
The theme does have to do with racing.

Also: Guess what! Vote icons appear in posts!

Free Guess Loophole

Rule 2.2 says, “As a weekly action, a staff member may buy one Guess for a number of Credits equal to ten times the current number on the Time Bomb.”

The Time Bomb rule was recently repealed. Therefore, regardless of what that thing on the sidebar says, the Time Bomb does not exist and there is no current number on the Time Bomb. So, the price of one Guess is ten times nothing, which is zero.

I buy a Guess for zero Credits. Shame I can only do this once a week.

Selling

I am hereby announcing that I am selling an orange in sweet orange sauce for the low, low price of 2 Credits.

I guess that this dynasty is a Space Race for Taste on Phobos.

Proposal: Let’s Make it a Race Take 2

Sadness overwhelms me—arth

Adminned at 29 Jan 2009 12:09:09 UTC

Let’s try this again, now that I have an open Proposal slot:

Append new major section,

THE RACE
Each Member of the Staff has completed a certain non-negative number of Laps, which will recorded in the GNDT. If at any time the Member’s Laps are set to an invalid value, that Member shall set their Laps to 0.

The Finish Line
When a Member switches their Station from the last Station in the Solar Map to the first Station in the Solar Map in one action and not through Translocation, that Member’s Laps increase by 1. This is known as Crossing the Finish Line.

In ‘Solar Map’ insert the following underlined text:

There exists a wiki document known as “Solar Map” which lists the possible routes between two stations. Two Stations are considered Adjacent in the Solar Map if one of them appears right before the other one. The first and last Station in the Solar Map are considered Adjacent to each other. As a weekly action, a Member of the Staff may add a Station to the Solar Maps. A Station may be added even if it already appears in the Solar Map, as long as this doesn’t cause a Station to be Adjacent to itself. If there is only one Station in the Solar Map, or will be only one Station as a result of an addition, that Station may be considered Adjacent to itself, and this does not prevent the Member from adding the Station.

If the first and last Station in the Solar Map are the same at the time this proposal passes, and there is more than one Station in the Solar Map, a new last Station shall be added by the enactor of this proposal without using a weekly action.

*whoosh, whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!* Look at them go!

Offer voided. Wait for the next quest…

Adminned at 29 Jan 2009 21:51:41 UTC

Ok, time for a new challenge: The first three people that purchase a new vehicle will get to privately ask how many times a letter appears on the Theme and get a response.
In order to do this, I’ll aid you with 2 sub-quests:

I’ll purchase any Recipe off you that costs 10 or less Credits.
However, If you have added a Station to the Solar Map this week, I’ll instead purchase your Recipes for up to 25 Credits each.
If you have done that and also have Tasted a Recipe this week, I’ll purchase your recipes for a whooping 50 Credits each.

Offers valid until I run out of credits, of course.

Landing a Jump
A Translocating Staff Member may change his Station to any Station on the Solar Map that is not under Maintenance without spending any Fuel.

The reason why there is no Fuel cost is two-fold:
(1) New players start in Jump with no Fuel, no Vehicle, and not enough Credits to purchase one.
(2) Anyone who is not a new player presumably had to spend 10 Fuel to Commence Translocation already.

Replace the text

If a Member has a Recipe on eir table that is also the Goal Recipe, the Staff Member, thereby known as the Contestant, may start a Practice Session by creating a Story Post that starts with “[Taste]” and removing the Recipe from eir table. The Contestant is also expected to give a short description on the peculiarities of the prepared recipe. The Contestant then obtains 1 Guess. Afterwards, no more Practice Sessions can be created for the same Goal Recipe (if they do get created, their Contestant gains no Guesses).

In rule ‘Practice’ with the following text.

If a Member has a Recipe on eir table, the Staff Member, thereby known as the Contestant, may start a Practice Session by creating a Story Post that starts with “[Taste]” and removing the Recipe from eir table. The Contestant is also expected to give a short description on the peculiarities of the prepared recipe. If the used recipe was the goal recipe, then the Contestant then obtains 1 Guess. Afterwards, if the goal recipe is cooked again, the Contestant that cooked it gains no Guesses.

The current rules can be interpreted that only goal recipes can be cooked, and it’s somewhat contradictory in saying that already-cooked goal recipes cannot be cooked again and then providing details on what happens if they are.

The Ukee Brothers

Wakukee and Qwazukee are sharing a computer and accidentally casting the other person’s vote after not logging out, sometimes - I don’t think anyone’s said anything, but we should really be counting the wrongly-cast votes as if the named person had cast them. Otherwise they could just invalidate any of the other person’s votes by saying “sorry, that last comment was actually me, ignore it”, and we get into the hazily deniable world of “wait, I didn’t really make that unfortunate DICE roll, my workmate was joking around on my machine!”. We are our BlogNomic avatars.

Amend Cosmology by inserting the following three underlined rules, using the surrounding, non-underlined text as a guideline for placement in the Ruleset:

Cosmology

Not AWL STAF MEMBARS WER HARE have originated in our home planet. In fact, many of them have come from distant locations. There is a GNDT column that shall track the current “Station” in which a Member of the Staff is residing. Staff Members may not change their Station except in ways provided for in the Ruleset. Because interstellar travel is too costly, the values of Station are limited to any one planet or moon located within the Solar System only, and to the special value “Jump”. If at any time, a Staff Member’s Station is set to an invalid value, that Staffer shall change it to “Jump” instead. A Member of the Staff currently in Jump is said to be Translocating.

[...]

Solar Map

There exists a wiki document known as “Solar Map” which lists the possible routes between two stations. Two Stations are considered Adjacent in the Solar Map if one of them appears right before the other one. As a weekly action, a Member of the Staff may add a Station to the Solar Maps. A Station may be added even if it already appears in the Solar Map, as long as this doesn’t cause a Station to be Adjacent to itself. No Station in the Solar Map shall be named “Jump”.

Landing a Jump
A Translocating Staff Member may change his Station to any Station on the Solar Map that is not under Maintenance without spending any fuel.

Any and all Stations named “Jump” at the time this proposal passes shall be changed to another legal name by a Member of Staff, the Writer, or an Admin.

Replace the text “A Member may Purchase any Recipe with a Price Tag, by transfering an amount of their Credits to the Recipe’s owner, equal to the Price of that Recipe, and moving that Recipe into their Table.” in the rule titled “Selling” with “A Member may Purchase any Recipe with a Price Tag, by transfering an amount of their Credits to the Recipe’s owner, equal to the Price of that Recipe, moving that Recipe into their Table, and removing the Price Tag.”

Add the following text to the end of the rule “Selling”:

In the rule called “Ingredients” replace “As a daily action, a Staff Member may add one kind of edible ingredient to the end of the Ingredient List. “

with

As a daily action, a Staff Member may add one kind of edible ingredient to the end of the Ingredient List, provided it is not currently already in the Ingredient List

This prevents people from just putting a free version of whatever recipe part they need in their current location.

Proposal: Adding elation to Inflation

Timed Out
-Amnistar

Adminned at 28 Jan 2009 09:37:10 UTC

Since my previous proposal disappeared, I’ll try it again.

Replace the text of rule “Selling” with:

At any time, a Member may place a Price Tag on a Recipe on eir Bowl. The Price Tag is a text in the form of “[X Credits]” that is appended to the end of a Recipe’s Name. X is known as the Price of that Recipe, and may be a number from 1 to 100. A Price Tag cannot be place on a Recipe that already has a Price Tag.

A Member may Purchase any Recipe with a Price Tag, by transfering an amount of their Credits to the Recipe’s owner, equal to the Price of that Recipe, and moving that Recipe into their Table.

For each vote on this Proposal that includes the text, “Inflation is fun”, the Writer obtains 30 Credits.

The purpose of giving me credits is to allow me to purchase Recipes from you if no one else has the money (or interest) for buying them.

Economic Rescue?

Hey guys I just noticed that another proposal I made suddenly disappeared! And I clearly remember that Proposal already having some votes on it! What’s wrong guys, who deleted it?

Proposal: Snap out of it, Bomb

Timed out 8 votes to 2, enacted by Kevan.

[ A lurking, triggerable “if this number is ever zero, repeal all rules” effect seems very risky, for the small benefit of being able to kill off stagnant Dynasties without taking a quick vote first. ]

Repeal Rule 2.11 (Countdown).

[ Per Wakukee’s heads-up.]

To Rule 2.4 (Ingredients), add:-

The names given to Ingredients exist only for the purpose of explicit references to those Ingredients. If a rule refers to the name of an Ingredient in any other context, it is assumed not to be referencing that Ingredient.

Story Post: Hey, Arth! Heads Up!

@Arthexis: You may want to post the station of an ingredient with its name on the ingredients list. Otherwise, people could just add a new ingredient by the same name without a station. Also, you may want to do something to keep people from making ingredients with the same names as recipes.

Call for Judgment: Who says I cant?

Quorumed -Darth

Adminned at 26 Jan 2009 19:21:17 UTC

Rule 2.4 says

There exists a wiki document titled “Ingredients” which may be only modified as the Ruleset permits, and that is formatted as a list, known itself as the Ingredient List. As a daily action, a Staff Member may add one kind of edible ingredient to the end of the Ingredient List.

Nothing says that I cannot add past 50. It just says it isn’t allowed to have past 50. There are a number of ways this could be interpreted, but as it was perfectly legal to add my ingredient

Add Rice to the ingredient list. Give Clucky one guess.

On a related note, Rolden failed at actually reverting any changes other than the guess. That is what we call sloppy. I can’t revert back with the CfJ, because someone might not revert in the first place, but I also should have my ingredients back in my bowl and my credit for the rice back, even if this fails.

Proposal: [Hint] We need MOAR speed, SRSLY. Its all about speed.

Quorumed -Darth

Adminned at 26 Jan 2009 19:52:31 UTC

Add a new sub-rule called “Turbo” under rule “Vehicles”:

As a daily action, a Member with a vehicle may start Turbo Mode by making a GNDT comment of “TURBO”. When a Member is in Turbo Mode, they may perform daily actions that require spending fuel as if they where not daily actions, and may instead perform them as long as they can pay their fuel cost. However, they cannot perform more than X such actions, where X is their Vehicle’s Speed, until Turbo Mode is deactivated. Turbo Mode lasts 2 hours, then deactivates itself.

On rule “Vehicles” change the sentence: “Vehicles may be added to the vehicles page by the writer, and the amount of fuel each vehicle can carry is described there.” to:

Vehicles may be added to the vehicles page by the writer, and the amount of fuel each vehicle can carry, and their Speed is described there.

On sub-rule fuel change the sentence “As a daily action, a Member of the Staff may purchase an amount of fuel by decreasing their credits by one per unit of fuel they wish to buy and adding that much fuel to their fuel in the GNDT” to:

As a daily action, a Staff Member may purchase an amount of fuel equal to their Vehicle’s fuel rating by paying 10 Credits, then setting their Fuel in the GNDT to the fuel rating of their Vehicle.

Remove sentence “As a daily action, a Staff Member may set their Station to any planet or moon that is located within the Solar System if they are currently Translocating or they may set their Station to Jump if they are not currently Translocating.” from rule Cosmology.

Being and Niceness

I don’t know about everyone else, but I intend on making any unofficial hints I get public so that people have a chance of guessing correctly. I figure that Arth will offer more like the current hint later on in the dynasty.

Repeal the rule call “The Spaceport”.

Since we can change to jump for free this rule just doesn’t make sense. Better to clean out rules that we don’t need then to let them sit and never be used.

Story Post: [Taste] Tasteless Rice Bowl with Soy

I started eating my tasteless rice bowl with soy, and was disappointed to find that it wasn’t tasteless. Instead, I tasted the delicious taste of fried Europa dolphin with just the right amount of soy. It was actually quite tasty, but the name of the dish was misleading. I suggest that it be changed to “Tasty Rice Bowl with Soy”.

Daily doesn’t quite mean daily

I’ve noticed some people have added food to the ingredients list within 6 hours of eachother. This isn’t allowed per the def of a ‘Daily Action’.

I don’t care enough to CfJ this, but please stop doing so in in the future.

Unofficial Hints, Part 2

This time I am gonna give out a SINGLE word on the theme to the first person that successfully cooks 3 recipes, and at least 1 of which must be a goal recipe. I’ll send this hint through PM to the winner of this challenge, so that it can be used as an upper hand in guessing. Good luck!

Hey Rawlin, comb hear!

Repeal sub-rule “Cloning”. Remove all cloned Ingredients from the Ingredients List (but leave the originals if they still exist).

At the end of sub-rule “Writing Recipes” add:

When a new Recipe is created, the Writer shall add 1DICE10 Credits to the Members who created any of the Ingredients that are part of that Recipe. This shall apply only for items that existed prior to the creation of the Recipe. The Writer may also, within a period of 24 hours modify (this includes adding or removing) the value of the Station which is associated to that Ingredient if it appears on the Ingredients List.

Gnauga, at 0:03 GMT on January 23, created the Ingredient “Mayonnaise Substitute” and a minute later deleted it and added it to eir bowl. An accompanying GNDT change at the same time states “Gnauga’s Credits = 36 (was 37) (Mayo to Bowl).” Gnauga did not put “a copy” of the Ingredient to eir bowl, e removed the Ingredient after paying a credit.

The Ingredient “Mayonnaise Substitute” should be restored to the Ingredients list.

With the following text:

There exists a wiki document called “Recipes” which consists of an item followed by a Station in which it is in demand and one or more edible items such as below.

As a weekly action, the Writer may change the Station of as many recipes as he wishes.

Create a new rule “Selling” as a subrule of “The Table”:

As a daily action, a Member may “Sell” a non-goal recipe on their table.  Upon Selling the recipe, the member gains 5 credits, and the recipe is removed from their table.  If the Member is in a Station in which the recipe is in demand, the Member gains 5 additional credits from Selling the recipe.

News Flash!

UPDATE:

Yoda has chosen letter ‘A’ (a very obvious choice): It appears 3 times on the Theme.

There are three new types of Vehicles ready to be bought… except they may be a little expensive right now. Hopefully this will get people to invent some mechanics that will allow them to get some Credits.

Also, I wouldn’t mind if people tamper with the Bowl rules so that we can flesh out a balanced cooking system. Basically my intention is:
* People can drive around to purchase stuff. They can do this as long as they have gas.
* People can use the collected items to make recipes.
* Recipes have different effects on the gameplay.
* Different Stations provide different types of ingredients.
* Stations are intrconnected through the Sol Road in the manner specified by the Solar Map.

Consider this a recap of all that’s been going on.

Yo dawg.

I think rule 2.5.1 should probably say

If a rule would allow a Member to remove such an ingredient from the Ingredients List, that action may only be taken if that Member spends 1 Fuel.

as currently it refers to all ingredients, and I think that defeats the point—or am I mistaken? If the intended purpose of the rule was to to make it so that any time you remove an ingredient from the list, we need to reverse alot of fridge cleaning/cooking as none of us have fuel.

If the intended purpose of the rule is to make it so that named ingredients have a slight cost attached to them, we should just change the rule and pretended it was always written that way.

But I really donno the intended purpose of the rule, so I’m just posting this for now.

Proposal: Gotta Catch Em All

Vetoed by me—arth

Adminned at 23 Jan 2009 12:25:14 UTC

Add a sub rule to “Cosmology ” called “Native Growth”. Give it the following text:

Certain stations may have native food growing or served nearby the space station. These are called “Native Growth” listed on a game state document called “Native Growth” which consists of a legal station, the name of an edible item, and a integer cost (called the cost) and a difficulty score (call the difficulty).

As a daily action, the writer may add an item to the Native Growth page.

At any time, provided their location is the same as location of the native growth, a staff member may spend the cost of the native growth and roll a DICE10. If their roll is greater than or equal to the difficulty of the native food, they may add the native food to their bowl.

If more than half of the staff members who vote on this proposal include the phrase “We need more space” (haha a pun) in the comments, replace

Members cannot keep more than five Ingredients in their Bowls.

in the rule “The bowl” with

Members cannot keep more than ten Ingredients in their Bowls.

If more than half of the staff members who vote on this proposal include the phrase “Seed it to start” in the comments, the writer, within 24 hours of this proposal passing, may add ten items to the Native Growth page, in addition to any added via a daily action.

Proposal: I Work in a Library

Passes with Dewey… however it has no effect on the ruleset because it only refers to affected rules by number—arth

Adminned at 23 Jan 2009 11:17:33 UTC

Under Rule 2.7.1 add the following sentence:

The tasted goal recipe shall be labeled as ‘Tasted’, in order to mark it as such.

If more than half of all comments containing counted votes also contain the text “Dewey”,
Under Rule 2.5, after the following text:

As a daily action, a Staff Member may add one kind of edible ingredient to the end of the Ingredient List.

Add the text

If there is a copy of the ingredient being added already in the document, these separate ingredients may collectively be referred to as the name of the ingredient, followed by (xN), where N is replaced by the number of ingredients being referred to. Ingredient names may not end in (xN) where N is replaced by a number.

If there are any multiples of ingredients that are not already compiled as such, compile them.
This is for brevity. Each and every ingredient shall be treated as an individual ingredient for all purposes and intents, but I dislike seeing identical ingredient several lines apart. It makes me angry.

Story Post: [Taste] Orange in Sweet Orange Sauce

I personally found the sweet orange sauce to be a little overpowering—the corn syrup really didn’t balance well with the natural freshness of the orange or the the Canola oil. That being said, the dish actually surprised me—I at first felt like I was eating a sauce rather than a desert, and wished I had some chicken or something to put it on. Amazingly, the dish actually tasted a little like orange chicken—Darknight must have put something in that corn syrup. Overall I’d give the dish three out of five bananas. It is a unique dish which has a lot of possibility, but a little too sweet for my tastes.

Step 3: Profit!

Add a new subrule to The Table titled “Selling” with the text:

Proposal: Bribing the Executioner

ARTH BOMSTIKD THIS PROSAL—RODALN

Adminned at 21 Jan 2009 21:26:43 UTC

Add a new rule, entitle “Bribing the Executioner”:

As a weekly action, a Member of the Staff may make a story post starting with [Bribe] so long as the Member of the Staff has 15 or more credits. Upon making this post, he must decrease his credits by 15, or the post has no effect. If twelve hours pass without another Member of the Staff posting a comment on it that contains the word “Overbid” and decreasing his credits by 20, then the bomb timer goes down by one. If a Member of the Staff does post a comment that contains the word “Overbid” and that Member of the Staff has at least 20 credits, then the Member of the Staff who made the comment loses 20 credits immediately and the timer does not go down. Only the first Member of the Staff who posts “Overbid” and has at least 20 credits must lose 20 credits.

Adminned at 22 Jan 2009 23:11:35 UTC

Remove the following from rule “Recipes”:

As a weekly action, if every ingredient for a given recipe appears on the ingredient document at least as many times at it does in a recipe, a Staff Member may remove one occurrence of each ingredient for each time it appears in the recipe and add the recipe to his section of the table. (He does not remove the recipe from the recipe document).

Create a new sub-rule “Cooking” under rule “Recipes”:

As a daily action, if every ingredient for a given recipe appears on a Member’s Bowl at least as many times at it does in a recipe, that Staff Member may remove one occurrence of each ingredient from eir Bowl for each time it appears in the recipe and add the recipe to his section of the table. (The recipe is not removed from the recipe document).

Create a new sub-rule “Rejection” under rule “The Table”:

If a Member doesn’t think that a Recipe on eir own table is good enough to be judged, e may Reject that Recipe by writing a bad review of it as a Story Post and removing it from eir Table. If a Member Rejects a Recipe in this manner, that Member cannot reject another one until 72 hours have elapsed. When a Recipe is Rejected, all Ingredients that make it up (according to the Recipes document) get removed from the Ingredients List.

Now, making recipes does not normally remove Ingredients: you have to fetch them through rule “The Bowl”. However you can Reject them as an “offensive” move to acualy destroy ingredients other Members may need. Furthermore, I would like people to propose a way to get Credits, as I think they may see quite a lot of use, but we don’t have enough of them… just nothing too grindy please.

Unnoficial Hints, Part 1

I’ll make a little contest: You guys pick one Member of the Staff, it can be anybody. To select that person, include that person’s name on a comment to this post. I will only count the first choice you make, and only for comments with only one Member name. I won’t count people that vote for themselves.

After a Quorum of people have made their choice, the person that got the most votes will get to select 1 letter of the alphabet (a vowel if they are smart) and I’ll tell you how many times it appears on the Theme!

If this mechanic is successful, I’ll repeat it next week.

Proposal: If it’s a problem, just make it legal.

Add the following to rule 1.5 (enactment):

Demi-admins are considered admins for all purposes of the enactment of their own proposals.

This would mean that a Demi-admin would have to follow all the rules of enactment as if he were an admin. And I really am not planning to run any scams, so no need to worry about that.

If a quorum of votes include the words “Screw It”, make Wakukee an admin instead.
Though I am fairly new, I believe that I have a firm grip on the rules, even the “secret” ones by Bucky. I feel that I am just as qualified if not more qualified than some current admins. Though I might be unaware of a few of the finer details of blognomic (like the scam hatred details) I am learning quickly.

Proposal: [Hint] Show me a map to the stars

Adminned at 22 Jan 2009 17:57:42 UTC

In sub-rule “The Highway” change sentence “Members that own a Vehicle may use this Road to, as a daily action, switch their Stations to any other valid value, without the need for Translocation.” for “Members that own a Vehicle may use this Road to, as a daily action, switch their Stations to any other Station adjacent to it on the Solar Map, without the need for Translocation.”

Create a new sub-rule “Solar Map” under rule “Cosmology”:

There exists a wiki document known as “Solar Map” which lists the possible routes between two stations. Two Stations are considered Adjacent in the Solar Map if one of them appears right before the other one. As a weekly action, a Member of the Staff may add a Station to the Solar Maps. A Station may be added even if it already appears in the Solar Map, as long as this doesn’t cause a Station to be Adjacent to itself.

Erase all the contents of the Solar Map wiki document.

Next, some spring cleaning of the ruleset, just to make it more readable (and satisfy my obsessive-compulsive disorder)

If more than half of all comments containing counted votes also contain the text “Cleanup”, then:

Make rule “Synonyms” a sub-rule to rule “Theme”.
Make rule “Fuel” a sub-rule to rule “Vehicles”.
Change the name of rule “We Will All Fry Together When We Fry” to “Countdown” and append the sentence “This rule is always the last Dynastic Rule in the Ruleset” to it.

If you think this proposal could be a little hard to enact, don’t worry: I’ll do it myself if it passes.

Create a new sub-rule called ‘‘The Bowl” under rule “The Table”:

Members have a subsection under their Table known as the Bowl, where they may keep ingredients that they have aquired but have not been used. Members cannot keep more than five Ingredients in their Bowls. Any action that requires a Member to remove an Ingredient from the Ingredients List may instead be performed by removing that Ingredient from that Members Bowl. Members can only put or remove items from their own Bowl, and only as allowed by the rules. At any time, a Member may pay 1 Credit to select one ingredient from the Ingredients List and put a copy of it into that Member’s Bowl, but only if the Ingredient is not associated with a Station or if the Member’s Station is the same as the Ingredient’s Station.

Create a new rule called, “Spaceport”:

[ Seems unnecessary to have a mostly-redundant sticky post at the top of the blog forever. I was going to just move it into the sidebar, since current Rule 2.6 doesn’t specify where the timer should be tracked, but I might as well make it a proposal and tidy it up a bit (it’s currently ambiguous as to whether it’d get decremented on days 2, 4 and 6 of a quiet week, or 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 - “every two consecutive days” gives you plenty of pairs of days). ]

Reword Rule 2.6 (We Will All Fry Together When We Fry) to:-

There exists a time bomb with a timer, which starts at 10 and is tracked in the sidebar. If there have been no new proposals within the past 48 hours, and if the timer has not been decremented in the past 48 hours, any Admin may make a blog post announcing this, and may decrement the timer value.

For eir community service, a Member that clones an Ingredient obtains 2DICE15 Credits. This action cannot be taken if it would cause the total number of ingredients in the list become 50 or more. Each Member of the Staff who has no credits when this proposal is enacted will gain 10 credits.

Vehicles may be added to the vehicles page by the writer, and the amount of fuel each vehicle can carry is described there. The writer also sets a price for each vehicle in the vehicle’s description. As a weekly action, a Member of the Staff may buy a vehicle by decreasing their credits by the price of the vehicle they wish to buy and changing their current vehicle (including -) to the new one in the GNDT. If this would cause a Member of the Staff’s credit to fall below 0, then it cannot be done. When a vehicle is bought, the Member of the Staff that bought the vehicle gains a number of fuel equal to the maximum amount of fuel the vehicle can carry.

If a quorum of votes contains the words “Fuel Me” and the Proposal “[Hint] Faster Traveling through better roads” passes, then add a rule entitled “Fuel”:

Each Member of the staff owns a non-negative amount of fuel, which is tracked in the GNDT. As a daily action, a Member of the Staff may purchase an amount of fuel by decreasing their credits by one per unit of fuel they wish to buy and adding that much fuel to their fuel in the GNDT. The Contestant is also expected to give a short description on the peculiarities of the prepared recipe. The Contestant then obtains 1 Guess. Afterwards, no more Practice Sessions can be created for the same Goal Recipe (if they do get created, their Contestant gains no Guesses).

Add the following at the end of rule “Ingredients”:

Recipe [Stations]: Ingredient #1, Ingredient #2, Ingredient #3

The first item is called the Recipe, the second the Required Stations, and the other items are called Ingredients. The warmer the temperature, the closer to the theme the proposal is. If the Writer includes the word Hot on his last counted vote, and the proposal passes, when the new rule is added to the ruleset it will include the tag [HINT] in the title of the rule. The Member of the Staff who submitted the Hot proposal, within 48 hours of the passage of the proposal, may then steal a Guess from another Member of the Staff.

This fixes a typo, provides a reward for Hot proposals, a method for gaining guesses, and also encourages Staff Members to use their guesses before someone steals them.

Announcing My Arrival

So, hi.  My name is Clint, and I read about Nomics approximately, uh, three years ago?  I never really took the time to find any though.  Anyway, I stumbled across it again on Wikipedia a few days ago and found this through a quick google search.  I’ve been reading the rules on and off and trying to figure out what the heck is going on, but I figured I’d get my feet wet and register.

So here I am!  I’ll try not to mess anything up too bad.

WHO DOES NOT LIKE A WHOLESOME GAME OF NOMIC ? ? ?

Hello.

Wow, is no one with FTP access around? Who usually changes the voting icons? There appears to be a system of backing up old icons in place, and while I think I’ve figured it out, I’d hate to mess it up.

I changed the icon and renamed the old one to a very obnoxious name so the next person along can file it appropriately.

Replace the text “The oldest pending Proposal” with “Any Proposal” throughout the ruleset.

Proposal: Let’s Settle This Democratically

Quorumed with optional text too—arth

Adminned at 16 Jan 2009 12:30:08 UTC

If the proposal “The Theme, Unabridged” fails, this proposal does nothing.

Create a new rule “Hints” with the following text:

There exist special proposals called Hints.  The Writer may create a Hint by adding the text “[Hint]” at the begining of the title of the proposal. Gamestate changes and Ruleset changes made by a Hint shall be considered to be related to the Theme.

There exists a wiki page called “Theme Hints” that keeps a record of all Hints that have been made.  When a Hint is enacted, its contents shall be added to the Theme Hints wiki page under a heading for the date and time of the post.

Delete all text in the “Theme Hints” wiki page.

If more than half of all comments containing counted FOR votes also contain the text “I like this way better”, do the following:

Replace the text of the rule “Theme” with the following:

There exists a Dynastic Theme (also known as The Theme) which is a part of the Gamestate, but which may only be changed through Proposal or CfJ. The Theme is described by a single sentence which is only known to The Writer, and whose MD5 hash is “997e169d477054d6f23621e83e46e127”.

Replace the text of the rule “Guessing” with the following:

Each Staff member has a non-negative integer number of “Guesses” which are tracked by the GNDT. New Citizens start with 3 Guesses. As a daily action, a Staff member may “Take a Guess” by spending 1 Guess and making a Story Post whose subject starts with “[Guessing]”. The post shall contain in it’s body a text that will be compared to the Theme by the Writer.

If the text to compare has roughly the same words as the Theme, disregarding punctuation, capitalization and exact order of the words, the Writer shall comment that the Guess was correct and the Staff member who took the Guess achieves victory. If one of the words used in the Guess is a synonym of a word in the Theme, the two words shall be considered effectively the same.

In any other case, The Writer shall comment that the Guess is wrong and should include some reasons as to why it was wrong on the same comment.

Proposal: The Questioning II

Vetoed after S/K—arth

Adminned at 15 Jan 2009 11:25:52 UTC

With each comment containing a counted FOR vote on this proposal, there may also be a question about the Theme.

If this proposal passes, the Writer must answer each of these questions.

Proposal: Performance

SK—arth

Adminned at 16 Jan 2009 06:52:11 UTC

If the Proposal titled “Sometimes it’s better to just get things moving” failed, this Proposal does nothing.

Create a rule with the title Performance

Each Staff Member has an integer value called ‘Performance’ tracked in GNDT. Any new Staff Members receive a performance of 5. The Writer may not have a value for performance.

Give all Staff Members except the writer a performance of 5.

This is intended to be one of the things you’d use to know whether or not you can change to a different job.

Proposal: hot or cold

Passes with Quorum (I hope someone proposes a fix to this new rule soon)—arth

Adminned at 15 Jan 2009 21:07:21 UTC

Create a new sub-rule of Guessing “Writer Help” with the text:

When the Writer votes on a proposal he may include with his vote the words Hot, Warm, Cool or Cold, to denote how closely to the theme the Writer feels the proposal is.  The warmer the temperature, the closer to the theme the proposal is. If the Writer includes the word Hot on his last counted vote, and the proposal passes, when the new rule is added to the ruleset it will include the tage [HINT] in the title of the rule

Just throwing it out there as an idea. I know [HINT] doesn’t do anything right now, but it provides a framework we can use.

Proposal: Sometimes it’s better to just get things moving

Vetoed—arth

Adminned at 15 Jan 2009 21:06:11 UTC

Create a new rule “Profession” with the text:

Each Staff Member will have a Profession, tracked in the GDNT.  The default for Profession for all Staff Members will be Gopher, with the exception of the Writer, whose profession will always be Writer. As a weekly action a Staff Member may change their position to any of the below positions as long as the meet the requirments for that position.

Create a subrule of Profession “Writer” with the text:

Only the Writer may hold this position.

Create a subrule of Profession “Gopher” with the text:

Any Staff Member may hold this position, as it has no requirements.

Obviously we can create new proffessions, give them abilities and requirements, etc.

Proposal: Hold on a second

Passes with Quorum—arth

Adminned at 15 Jan 2009 21:01:56 UTC

Make a new rule, “Synonyms”:

Members of the Staff may, for short, be referred to as Staff Members or simply Members.

New color scheme

I’m going to set the color scheme to black on white. Arth can change it later to something which fits his theme.

Unidling

Can I be unidled now? This seems like an interesting dynasty.

75th has been sent the veto icon

It may take a while for the icon to be replaced, though.

Edited by Arth: I added an important comment to this post, so please check it out.

Proposal: The Theme, Unabridged

Passes with Quorum—arth

Adminned at 15 Jan 2009 11:58:27 UTC

Create a new rule “Theme”:

There exists a Dynastic Theme (also known as The Theme) which is a part of the Gamestate, but which may not be changed through Proposals or other Rules. The Theme is described by a single sentence which is only known to The Writer, and whose MD5 hash is “997e169d477054d6f23621e83e46e127”.

In any other case, The Writer shall comment that the Guess is wrong and may include some reasons as to why it was wrong on the same comment.

Give 3 Guesses to each member of the Staff.

Yes, I know the guess is really hard at first. But I’d prefer if you’d also propose some way to making it easier for yourselves, like making me give you hints or something. Think of it as a more challenging Wheel of Fortune.

Proposal: The Theme, Take 2

I changed some of the exact wording but left the bulk of it the same.  Also, the way the Hints rule is worded, it allows for another possible way of creating Hints, such as the Writer deeming a proposal a Hint somehow.

Proposal: Hey, I was made an admin because of glitch powers, why not him?

Self-killed -Darth

Adminned at 15 Jan 2009 09:31:27 UTC

Make Wakukee an Admin.

This will actually limit his abilities, as the rules do not disallow non-admins with admin powers from doing anything.

If more than half of all comments containing counted votes also contain the text “Qwaz will make his life hell”, make Qwazukee an Admin.

Ascension Address: The Ascension Address you voted for: Guess the Theme Dynasty

Director: Yeah, well… What can I say? This is the most awesome Dynasty idea I’ve ever heard Arth. We are gonna put it to practice immediately.

Writer: Most honored, sir! What was the part you most liked?

Director: Perhaps it’s the part after they go there and do that, I mean, it’s awesome. I cannot simply describe it with words.

Producer: Actually, I think we will just need to do that. After all, we have to sell the idea to the public somehow, make trailers, find locations, you know… Mr Writer, how would you describe this new masterpiece?

Writer: Mmm, lemme think about it…

Director: This could take a while.

Repeal all Dynastic Rules and fail all pending Proposals and CfJs.
The Watcher becomes The Writer. Citizens become members of the Staff.

Something weird is happening

I’m posting comments to Arth’s DoV, but they’re not showing up. But the number of comments is still increasing.

Accusation revoked. The mystery was not entirely ‘solved,’ but no foul play seems to be involved. That’s right, nothing strange going on here at all.—Wakukee

Adminned at 14 Jan 2009 20:37:16 UTC

I have all three relics, so I win. Finally. No kidding.

I’d like to thanks Yoda and Amnistar for their cooperation, and special mention to Darth Cliche for his tenacity. As I stated previously, the next dynasty will be one of the three options I gave on a previous post. So, please include with your vote which of the three you would be most interested in playing, and I’ll try to have my AA as soon as possible after the DoV passes.

Let’s Get This Over With

Arthexis now has all 3 relics and should declare victory.

Final Warning

Fair warning guys. If this doesn’t end by Sat, I’m gonna propose a way to end it one way or another. Rod and some of the rest of you might remember this from Rod’s last dynasty. Lets just say I had a bomb proposing it before

Proposal: Banhammer++

Any user with admin powers may check that the users Qwazukee and Wakukee have the same IP address.

This is in strict violation of Rule 1.2 which states

A single person may not control more than one Citizen within BlogNomic. If anybody is suspected of controlling more than one Citizen, then a Proposal may be made to remove any number of such Citizen from the game, and to bar the perpetrator from rejoining.

Ban Qwazukee and Wakukee from the game of BlogNomic.

If the MIC faction has more Citizens than any other faction, the Chairman of MIC achieves victory.

If the GNO faction has more Citizens than any other faction, the Supreme Being of GNO achieves victory.

If the BLO faction has more Citizens than any other faction, the Stylist of BLO achieves victory.

This metadynasty must end now: it was fun while it lasted, but it makes no sense anymore. Let the mightiest faction rise over the others!

Create a new rule called “Welcome to the party!”:

The Stylist is such a nice fellow that e even invites people from other factions to the BLO parties. Because of this, the Stylist is allowed to unidle any idle Citizen at any time.

GNO cannot veto this time, because they are under hiatus, and because the Fealty rule has been smashed.

Change all mentions of “Rodlen” in the ruleset to “Bucky”.

If more than half of all comments containing counted FOR votes also contain the text “For dimensional instability!”, make Yoda the Stylist of BLO.

If more than half of all comments containing counted FOR votes also contain the text “Revolution in MIC”, make Darth Cliche the Chairman of MIC.

I just smashed the oath of fealty in BLO.

The second sentence in the Oath of Fealty for BLO only appears in BLO, as it refers to the specific faction it is written in.  Therefore, it is smashable.

I smashed it.

I beat your plan, Yoda.

Now you don’t have as many GG.

Remove Yoda from the position of Demiurge.  Remove Bucky from the position of Supreme Being.  Make Qwazukee the Supreme Being and Gramira the Demiurge.

Give all of Yoda and Darth’s magic dust to Arthexis.

Therefore, enact Proposal “[BLO] Ok, I’ll make it legal and stylish this time”, which should have normally passed because it reached BLO Quorum.

Come on already!

[BLO] Notice Board of the BLO Rebellion

Yoda nearly has the GNO relic. All we need is for Yoda’s GNO DoV to succeed, and he’ll have the GNO relic. Hopefully, he won’t give it to Arth, because that will no longer help end the dynasty.

Proposal: [BLO] Ok, I’ll make it legal and stylish this time

Vetoed via Oath of Fealty -Bucky

Adminned at 13 Jan 2009 12:43:10 UTC

Create a new rule called, “Prancing Jaguars and their Derivatives”:

Because there is nothing more Stylish than a Garden Gnome, BLO Citizens are allowed to use Garden Gnomes to decorate their heads. The number of Garden Gnomes owned by a Citizen shall be tracked under a GNDT column called “GG”. At any time, the Stylist may redecorate a Citizen, increasing or decreasing their GG by any amount e sees fit. When the GG of a Citizen is increased, that Citizen is said to have been Gnomified. Conversely, when a Citizen’s GG is lowered, that Citizen is said to be Degnomiated.

If a Citizen has 50 or more Gnomes, the Citizen shall be declared Gnomifull and is never considered to be Idle, but still has ADD. This rule cannot be smashed (sorry, Rodlen)

Create a new rule in Faction BLO’s Ruleset and in Faction GNO’s Ruleset titled “BLO Oath of Fealty” with the following text:

We recognize the authority of the Holy Gnomish Empire as guaranteed by Yoda and willingly submit the GNO Faction’s wise and benevolent government. To allow more effective governance, GNO Faction proposals may modify BLO Faction Ruleset and Gamestate, and the Supreme Being may vote on and veto BLO Faction proposals.

Create a new rule in Faction MIC’s Ruleset and in Faction GNO’s Ruleset titled “MIC Oath of Fealty” with the following text:

We recognize the authority of the Holy Gnomish Empire as guaranteed by Yoda and willingly submit the GNO Faction’s wise and benevolent government. To allow more effective governance, GNO Faction proposals may modify MIC Faction Ruleset and Gamestate, and the Supreme Being may vote on and veto MIC Faction proposals.

If you want this dynasty to be over, vote for this because as soon as this passes, I can make a DoV in GNO to get the GNO relic.  Then, I can go to MIC and ask Amnistar to give me the MIC relic and ask Rodlen to give me the BLO relic that he just got.

Wow.  WOw.  WOW.  WOW!

I just broke BLO.

Now nobody can break bones.  The number of bones broken is based on the number of dangerous actions taken in a citizen now.

Ideas for the next Dynasty

I have three ideas that I’d had in mind for sometime now, in case I ever won a dynasty. So, I’m gonna post them and you guys can decide which one you like. If for some reason I don’t win, feel free to use any of these ideas anyways.

1) Timeshifting Dynasty: Based on the short story “The Last Question” by Isaac Asimov, the players are a group of AIs that must stop the destruction of the Universe. Several things can be done like making time go faster, slower, rewind it, but these actions create entropy. If the entropy of the universe ever goes over a certain mark, the AI with the lowest entropy wins.

2) Ambiguously Minimalistic Dynasty: Short proposals are declared minimal, and players are rewarded for making minimal proposals, but punished if those proposals are not useful. Player complete to make Emperor made rules shorter (known as Unclean Rules), which gains them points. Players can make their enemies rules “Unclean” by discovering design errors in them.

3) Guess the Theme Dynasty: Only the Emperor knows what the Dynasty is about, and he ain’t telling. Proposals made by the Emperor are known as “Hints” and Players can make “Guess Posts” about the nature of the Dynasty, but they are limited in their number of tries. The first Player to guess what the Dynasty was about wins.

Call for Judgment: DDA nukes stuff.

Declaration of Victory: This time I mean it

Adminned at 11 Jan 2009 22:08:23 UTC

I win.

Now, for an explanation of my magnificent plan:

1) Upon the passing of Proposal “[BLO] If this passes, people will need to join BLO in order to win the game” the rule “It’s a Trap!” has been added to the BLO Ruleset. You can verify that indeed this was the text being obscured in the proposal because Darknight and jrmdex were given the real decrypting instructions when the Proposal was created.

2) Per the new rule, anybody joining BLO has to give all Relic e owns to the Stylist (which is me). This is possible because dynastic rule “2.4.1 Relics” states that “Each relic may be given to any citizen at any time by the citizen who currently owns the relic. ” And the wording of “It’s a Trap!” makes use of that.

3) Because the only way to obtain the BLO Relic is to join BLO, and joining BLO takes your other Relics, no one can ever have the three relics except the Stylist. This makes me the only person who can win. Thus, if this DoV doesn’t pass we are stuck in this metadynasty forever :)

Comments

After “Tightening the Ruleset,” don’t the people in faction-within-factions need to revert to singular factions?

And furthermore, don’t the people not in Blo need to have “-” fractures? I certainly doubt the legitimacy of Clucky’s 32773 figure in any case.

Musings of an Amnistar

So, a comment that I’d like to make, of my own personal opinion on some things, not at all reflecting anything official, or even related to this specific nomic.  Namely, the difference, in my opinion, between cheating and abusing a loophole in the rules.

Cheating is, in my opinion, deliberately acting in a manner that is prohibited by the rules, or failure to act in a manner that is proscribed by the rules.
Loopholes are when you find an action that is allowed by the rules, that is either unexpected, or against the spirit of the rules.

Pretending that you misunderstand that rules would, in my opinion, not be an issue of loopholes, it would be an issue of cheating.  I bring this up not as an accusation against anyone, though I do admit that the current actions did bring this to the front of my mind, but as a reminder that the reason the game is fun is because you are required to win in a manner that isn’t cheating.  That is, you have to find a way within the rules to abuse them, not ignore the rules for a brief moment in an attempt to win.

If you think you have a way to win that is within the rules, that’s great, go for it, just don’t be suprised if a CfJ comes up, and, if it goes against you, don’t be upset.  It’s the whole point of the game.

That said….someone PLEASE get their hands on the other two relics and then join MIC.  I’m ready for a new dynasty :P.

Yoda reverted my changes and granted the BLO Relic to Darth Cliche even after I made a post explaining why it was illegal for him to have it in the first place. The BLO Rules require you to make a story post IN ORDER TO shoot yourself with the gun and take the Relic once you suceed. However, DC shot himself repeatedly, and THEN made a Story Post claiming he got the Relic. This is clearly an illegal action, no matter how you look at it.

Destroy the BLO Relic.

Enter GNO, my allies.  Enter GNO and end the evil plot.

Proposal: [BLO] Paraplegics can’t defend themselves

Passes after timeout—arth

Adminned at 10 Jan 2009 20:16:50 UTC

Create a new rule “Taking candy from a little kid”:

If a Citizen has most of their bones broken (meaning 103 or more), the Citizen is Paralyzed and cannot move. If such a Citizen is in possession of the BLO Relic, the Stylist automatically obtains the BLO Relic, and then immediately destroys it. The Stylist cannot achieve victory this way.

Why is it worded this way? Well, I cannot remove the relic from Citizens who are in other Factions, but we can still grant it to someone else in our own Faction, and THEN destroy it.

I’m taking that BLO Relic back

Per BLO rule “13 Your chance for the limelight”:

“As a weekly action, a Citizen may take The Gun and may choose to either reload it with bullets or to shoot erself. To perform either action, the Citizen shall make an overly dramatic display of daringness in any Story Post, specifying which action e is taking.”

Cliche used The Gun several times, but only made ONE Story Post, and even that, he made that post AFTER using the gun, instead of before. Thus he cannot obtain the BLO Relic. I’ve already removed it from the GNDT, and if somebody doesn’t like this ruling, CfJ it (hopefully not with the anonymous moniker).

Proposal: Lets actually do this in a legit manner

timed out, final vote 2-9—Yoda

Adminned at 10 Jan 2009 11:20:55 UTC

Remove all relics from play. Give Clucky the BLO, GNO and MIC relics.

I have done just as much work towards winning this thing as Darth has—just because he exploited the loophole I pointed out doesn’t mean he accomplished anything else and BLO. GNO is stubborn and hasn’t even provided a way to *get* their relic, and I have an interesting dynasty idea that I can probably use to convince Amnistar to my side. This proposal is no different from the proposal Yoda made on Darth’s behalf, expect its doing it out in the open—not trying to sneak it in behind peoples backs or shadily abuse the ruleset.

My idea for the dynasty is as follows: speed everything up. Instead of 48 hours until proposals expire, make it two. Instead of 24 hours for a daily action, make it one. Instead of 7 days for a weekly action, make it a day. Put some unchangeable rule that gives the dynasty a week to live and certain set victory conditions once the week runs out, and then disallow rules that add victory conditions or grant victory until after the week is up.

Proposal: Let’s Settle This

Illegally repealed

Since the encryption technique was revealed, I’ve just realised the removal of GNO’s secrecy rule was repealed. It actually went in the wrong ruleset to begin with. I meant it to go in the main ruleset and said nothing to indicate it would go into GNO’s. Since that’s the case, I think it should be re-enacted and put into the correct ruleset. If I wasn’t idle, I’d make a call for judgment for it. Since I am idle, could someone either make a call for judgment themselves or just fix it anyway since it’s the result of a small mistake?

No more secrecy!

The fowl members of GNO have taken to abusing their secrecy and trying to scam in victory behind everyone’s back. Thus obviously shouldn’t fly by BLO or MIC. I suggest that BLO and MIC join forces and rise up against them and their plot to put the traitor known as Darth Cliche on the thrown.

Here is their so called “secret” encryption algorithm. If they try to change it, I suggest infiltrating their ranks like I have done and stopping them at the source

http://islab.oregonstate.edu/koc/ece575/02Project/Mor/

i’m using the RSA applet on this website.  we can change if need be or one of you guys finds a better one.

but for now here’s how it goes.

P = 23291
Q = 101183

type those values in for P and Q.

click the calculate N, generate E, and calculate D buttons.

then copy/paste the string to be encrypted into the third box from the bottom.  click CONVERT TO NUMBER, and some numbers should appear.  this is the ciphertext, and what you should put in your proposal (after SHHHH)

Story Post: Holy shit, I succeeded shooting myself

Darth Cliche shoots himself with a gun, into the ocean, but lives.

I have the BLO relic.

Proposal: [BLO] A fix, for now

Passes with BLO Quorum—arth

Adminned at 08 Jan 2009 11:59:52 UTC

change the rule “Licensed to Mill” to read

Provided e has not already done so five times in the last 24 hours, a citizen may go fairy hunting. Thus is a 20*(N + 1)% dangerous action where N is the number of times the citizen has already attempted to do so in the last twenty four hours. If the citizen breaks zero bones in the processes, the citizen gains one ounce of magic dust.

At the end of the rule “Smash it to pieces” add

The rest of this rule, including this sentence, cannot be smashed. The word chosen cannot be any of the following words, nor can it be changed to any of the following words: bones

Proposal: Fast Forward

s/ked—Yoda

Adminned at 09 Jan 2009 15:02:37 UTC

If anyone wants to take a look at the GNDT and my clever little loophole, it worked as follows:

I can go fairy dust hunting as often as I want, I’ll just always fail.

I never broke any cats though, so I still get a point of fairy dust.

I can then use that point of fairy dust to smash the ruleset to pieces.

Eventually, I can put the phrase “Give Clucky the BLO Relic” in the ruleset.

So to save me lots of time

Set Clucky’s broken bones to 1000000000
Give Clucky the BLO relic.

Come on guys

Nomic is supposed to supposed to be a game where intelligent civilized people have fun changing the rules while taking part in the game as the rules change. The structure we have here works amazingly well—a fixed framework keeps provides the same basic outline for each game, and then the dynamic dynasties keep the game fun and interesting. The framework was never designed to be idiot proof, because this game wasn’t supposed to be played by idiots. While finding loopholes and abusing dynastic rules (within reason) is all good fun and games, the framework the dynastic rules are put in is not designed for this kind of abuse. Why can’t we just all agree to get along like civilized people and not abuse the framework—and then punish the players who, even after warning, abuse the framework rather than scurrying to fix everything. You can apply fixes all you want—but holes are a whole lot easier to create than patch up. If we keep at this “find hole abuse hole patch hole” mentality, it will never end. If, instead, we all agree not to abuse the framework each dynasty fits in, we can spend more time nomicing and less time worrying about stupid stuff.

So yeah—don’t use CfJ’s to fix the ruleset. CfJ’s are there to resolve disputes, not change the rules. Don’t use the CfJ to do something that you just don’t have the balls to do yourself, like banning an active member for trying to help out. Don’t use CfJ’s just because you can, or to prove a point. Don’t go crazy just because someone posted a completely harmless CfJ that only took a minute of your time to vote down, but at the same time, don’t post those pointless CfJs in the first place. In other words, use common sense. Or in words that I know Elias will agree with and I hope everyone else—Don’t do stupid stuff and be excellent to each other. Those to rules should apply to your lives in general, but at least try and apply them here and any other community you want to be respected in.

Qourumed against.

Adminned at 09 Jan 2009 09:27:52 UTC

At the end of the first paragraph in Core Rule 1.6 add the following,

If a Citizen anonymously posts a nonsense CfJ, that CfJ can be failed regardless of how long its been posted for.

Time to stop this little lemming herd.

Call for Judgment: That’s it, no more anonymous CfJs

Reached a quorum of AGAINST votes, final vote 0-9 -Darth

Due to the recent trouble with CfJs, it seems there is not much of a reason to have functionality for anon CfJs.

Remove the “author” option from the “options” tab in the posting section of the BlogNomic website.

Therefore, all nonsense CfJs may be automatically failed in the future.  If anyone objects to an autofail, the CfJ may be reopened by any admin.

If a proposal begins with the text “Be vewy, vewy quiet…. I’m hunting wabbits”, the rest of the proposal is considered to be in the official encryption format of BLO, which shall be chosen by the Stylist. It is the Stylist’s duty to inform all Citizens of BLO how to encrypt and decrypt proposals.

The current Cow is equal to Green, and arthexis holds possession of the Scroll of Wealth. Therefore, by Rule 2.23 Victory Condition, arthexis is the winner.

Begin a new dynasty with arthexis as its Watcher.

Proposal: [BLO] Carefull where you point that

Passes overwhelmingly 4 - 0—arth

Adminned at 07 Jan 2009 00:37:55 UTC

Create a rule called “Your chance for the limelight”:

Nothing is any more dangerous than playing Russian Roulette with a fully loaded gun. As a weekly action, a Citizen may take The Gun and may choose to either reload it with bullets or to shoot erself. To perform either action, the Citizen shall make an overly dramatic display of daringness in any Story Post, specifying which action e is taking. Initially, The Gun has 10 bullets. Firing The Gun is a N * 10% Dangerous action, where N is the number of bullets it has, then that number is reduced by 1. If The Gun has no bullets, it cannot be fired. If the Citizen breaks no bones in this process, that Citizen obtains the BLO relic. Reloading the Gun automatically sets the number of bullets on it to 10, and is not really dangerous at all. This rule may not be smashed.

Enacted (though any admin, even a non-mic one could have delt with this)
-Amnistar

Adminned at 09 Jan 2009 05:11:06 UTC

Create a new rule in the MIC ruleset entitled “Distribution of Wealth” with the following text:

WHEREAS the strength of the faction is affected by the wealth of the people, and
WHEREAS it is important for the party to monitor the strength of the faction,
THEREFORE the wealth of the people, as measured by its Magic Dust, is subject to rule by the Party, as detailed in the subrules of this rule.

Create a new subrule of “Distribution of Wealth” entitled “Nationalization” with the following text:

WHEREAS it is wrong for any citizen to horde wealth in great excess of his fellow citizens, and
WHEREAS the Chairman is empowered and required to see to the good of the people,
THEREFORE as a weekly action, the Chairman may call for a Nationalization of Wealth by making a story post with “Nationalization” as the first word of the title.  When he does so, he must then take the total of the Magic Dust currently possessed by MIC Citizens (including himself and the Viziers) and divide by the number of Citizens. The whole number result is the new Magic Dust total of all Citizens. Any remainder is then allocated at his discretion among the Loyal citizens, if any. If there are no Loyal citizens, he may keep the remainder for his service to the People.

Create a new subrule of “Distribution of Wealth” entitled “Merit Reward” with the following text:

WHEREAS the work of the people creates new wealth, and
WHEREAS the wealth of the faction is the wealth of the People,
THEREFORE as a weekly action, the Chairman may declare a Merit Reward by making a story post with “Merit Reward” as the first words of the title. When he does so, each Mere Citizen may claim 2 Magic Dust, each Loyal Citizen may claim 4 Magic Dust, and the Chairman and Viziers may claim 6 Magic Dust by adding that amount to their Magic Dust total.

Proposal: I’m going in

Passes on time out—arth

Adminned at 08 Jan 2009 11:53:19 UTC

Remove the phrase “who is not the Watcher” from dynastic rule Membership.

Time for me to try out each faction.  I will give away relics that I get.

I hereby join BLO’s GNO

I am now joining the GNO within BLO, created by the copy of Rule 2.2. Unfortunately, I cannot update the GNDT to say this, as the GNDT’s “Faction” only allows BLO, GNO, and MIC.

Going Idle

I think it’s time for me to go idle. The theme was fun at first but it just seems like a big stalemate now. As my final diplomatic act for this dynasty, I give the relic to arthexis.

Bombardment: Blasting Angry Grasshopper

For your imaginary crimes against the faithful monks of yesteryear you shall freeze in the deepest pit of hell.  Dormi nive somnifera.

Proposal: [GNO] Eco Gnomics

reached quorum, final vote 4-0—Yoda

Adminned at 06 Jan 2009 16:53:30 UTC

Add a new subrule to the rule entitled “Holy GNOmish Empire.”  Call it “Industry” and give it the following text:

As a weekly action, a Citizen may Work.  The effects of Working are dependent on their class:
If they are a Gnome, they increase their GG by 3.
If they are a Gnogue, they increase their GG by 2 and may decrease another Citizen’s GG by up to 2.
If they are a Disciple, they increase the Magic Dust of each Citizen by 5.

Proposal: [BLO] Raiding the Kitchen

Passes 5 - 0—arth

Adminned at 07 Jan 2009 13:10:32 UTC

Add a new rule called “Licensed to Mill”. Give it the following text

At any time citizen may go fairy hunting. Thus is a 20*(N + 1)% dangerous action where N is the number of times the citizen has already attempted to do so in the last twenty four hours. If the citizen breaks zero bones in the processes, the citizen gains one ounce of magic dust.

Proposal: [BLO] Not an invitation to treason

Vetoed to a vetoey doom—Rodlen

Adminned at 06 Jan 2009 17:36:26 UTC

Create a new rule “Insert rule name here”:

Traitors are never made, they are born. Because it is dangerous to be a traitor and be inside the enemy territory at the same time, the BLO faction comes to the rescue. At any time a Citizen may send a PM to the Stylist, containing the method to decrypt the encrypted messages of the GNO Faction. Within 72 hours, the Stylist shall confirm that the decryption method indeed works, and if so, make a Story Post announcing this. Then, the Citizen who provided the decryption method to the Stylist shall obtain the BLO Relic.

If the Stylist has announced that a decryption method has been obtained, any Citizen may PM the Stylist to obtain a copy of it within 72 hours.

Now, my loyal BLO minions, bring us the Gnostic Gnomic Knowledge!!

Story Post: [BLO] Anouncement in Style

Now we have classes in BLO. Since I am the Stylist, I am allowed to grant any class to anybody, and thus would like to set up a little competition:

Propose a Class and if your proposal passes, send me a PM. In your PM include any one Class and any one Citizen (other than me) and I’ll give that Class to that Citizen (it does’t have to be the same one you created). I’ll keep this offer valid for as long as I’m the Stylist.

Proposal: [BLO] Declaration of war

Fails on Timeout—arth

Adminned at 06 Jan 2009 17:28:35 UTC

Make a subrule of rule 11 Diplomacy, titled “War”, with the following text:

WHEREAS one Faction must come out on top;
WHEREAS BLO and MIC are allied and thus should not fight each other;
THEREFORE BLO and MIC are at war with GNO.

Loophole

I just noticed something. Every Citizen has to follow the rules of every Faction.

Simple: Every Faction’s ruleset has this sentence:
“This is the official Ruleset for BlogNomic, all Citizens shall obey it.”

Get Relics out there

Factions should create means of gaining control of their faction relics.  And please, ensure that it is done in such a way that a member that is not part of your faction could feasibly posses the relic.

Hi

Hi, I’m comex, who wishes to become a Citizen.

The following, encrypted using the official GNO encryption method, explains the reason for my joining:

Note: I’m not sure I will, in fact, become a Citizen.  The following text:

...and then making a post announcing her arrival.  An Admin shall add her to the roster in the sidebar and the GNDT, at which moment he becomes a Citizen.

seems to state that as soon as an Admin adds a new player to the sidebar and the GNDT, that Admin (as the only possible referent of “he”, the player being presumed female) becomes a Citizen.

Proposal: Let us watch ourselves

to

Every rule existing in the Blognomic ruleset is considered implicit in each Faction’s Ruleset, even if not written on it, with the exception of Rule 2.1.

Proposal: [BLO] Let the name calling begin!

Pases 4-0—arth

Adminned at 05 Jan 2009 12:11:57 UTC

Create a new rule called “Purple Poodle”:

When we where young, we had to go through different classes, learned different professions and suffered different kinds accidents. Because of this, there exists a characteristic to each Citizen called “Class” which shall be tracked in the GNDT. The Stylist may at any time set the Class of a Citizen other than erself, to any single word: this shall be the Class of the Citizen. The Class of the Stylist is always “Stylist”.

Create a sub-rule “Pass me the potato chips” under rule “Purple Poodle”:

Citizens belonging to the Class “Chirurgeon” know how to mend broken bones (and conversely, how to break them). As a daily action, a Chirurgeon may pick a single Citizen and remove 1DICE4 fractures from that Citizen, this action being known as Mending. However, even this can be dangerous because there is a remote possibility that the loose end of a broken bone ends up sticking into the eye of the Chirurgeon. Because of that, Mending another Citizen is 19% Dangerous. If the Chirurgeon is attempting to Mend erself, it is 91% Dangerous.

Proposal: [BLO] No more Wheeeeee! for you

Passes 2-1 (DKs vote becomes FOR as the Stylist voted FOR)—arth

Adminned at 05 Jan 2009 12:08:54 UTC

Repeal the rule “The rule formerly known as Wheeeeee!”

Because now the way to win is through Relics, we don’t need this kind of rules anymore.

Proposal: [BLO] Alpacalypse [evil]

Fails 3-2. Darknight

Adminned at 04 Jan 2009 16:07:18 UTC

Make Darth Cliche the Stylist.

Mua ha ha.

Proposal: =[BLO] Need more MAGICAL smashing time!

Passes 4-0. Darknight

Adminned at 04 Jan 2009 16:06:12 UTC

If proposal “The Spice of Life” failed, this proposal does nothing.

Make a new rule titled “Alakapocus!” with the following text:

Each Citizen may use 30 ounces of Magic Dust to perform a daily action, even if they have already done that action this day. Each Citizen may also use 60 ounces of Magic Dust to perform a weekly action, even if they have already done that action this week. Using Magic Dust in this way is a 50% Dangerous Action.

Proposal: The Spice of Life

Passes 10-0. Darknight

Adminned at 04 Jan 2009 15:58:27 UTC

Add a new dynastic rule titled “Magic Dust” with the following text:

Each Citizen has an amount of Magic Dust measured in ounces and tracked in the GNDT.  New Citizens start with 0 ounces of Magic Dust.  When a Citizen “uses X ounces of Magic Dust”, an amount of Magic Dust equal to X is subtracted from that Citizen’s Magic Dust.  A Citizen may not use more Magic Dust than he currently has.  The effects of Magic Dust may be determined by each Faction; however, the effects of Magic Dust within a Faction may not extend beyond that Faction’s Ruleset and Gamestate.

A Citizen may, at any time, subtract any positive amount of Magic Dust from their own Magic Dust, not to exceed the amount of Magic Dust he currently has, and add that amount to any other Citizen’s Magic Dust.

Set each Citizen’s Magic Dust to 0.

Proposal: [MIC] Do not question the Chairman’s loyalty again

Passes 4-0. Darknight

Adminned at 04 Jan 2009 15:54:20 UTC

Create a new sub-rule of Rule 6 “Class Structure” entitled “Current Chairman” with the text:

WHEREAS the Chairman cannot by his very nature be disloyal;
WHEREAS it would be redundant to mention the Chairman’s loyalty;
THEREFORE the class of the Chairman is always “Chairman”.

Create a new sub-rule of Rule 6 “Class Structure” entitled “Retiring Chairman” with the text:

WHEREAS a Chairman who retires honorably should be recognized for his service;
WHEREAS the loyalty of the Chairman does not change merely because he chooses to retire;
THEREFORE should the Chairman retire while remaining a Citizen of MIC, his class must be immediately changed to from “Chairman” to “Loyal”

This is an almost exact copy of escher’s proposal but with slightly changed formatting and it’s (hopefully) legal.

Proposal: [MIC] Let’s try it again, this time without misunderstandings.

Qouromed
-Amnistar

Adminned at 02 Jan 2009 15:48:44 UTC

Create a sub-rule of rule 3.2 Proper References, sub-rule of rule 3 Needless Bureaucracy, Rule of the MIC ruleset with the name “Reference Exceptions” with the text:

WHEREAS at times a rule must be referenced before it has been added to the ruleset;
WHEREAS in such times, a proposal should not be needlessly failed;
THEREFORE if a proposal refers to a rule that was not added to the ruleset at the time the proposal was posted,  it need not refer to the rule number, or parent rules of the rule to which it refers, as specified in rule 3.2 Proper References, sub-rule of rule 3 Needless Bureaucracy, Rule of the MIC ruleset.

Create a new rule of the MIC ruleset named “The Will of the People” with the text:

WHEREAS at times the people will be unified in their decisisions;
WHEREAS the will of the people is represented by the Chairman and his Viziers;
THEREFOR if a proposal has reached a quorum of votes and the Chairman and at least one of his Vizier’s has voted on the proposal, and cast the same vote, that proposal may be immediately enacted or failed, regardless of it’s position in the queue.
THEREFOR if a proposal has been voted on by the Chairman and BOTH of his Vizier’s, and all three have voted the same, that proposal may be immediately enacted, regardless of it’s position in the queue.
