Stamp Black Book, 3rd edition

According to my calculations, the Rarity Values of the currently circulating Stamps are:
B 19
T 18
Y 18
M 16
J 15
F 11
Z 1

All others: 20 (but will decrease to 19 or less when actually obtained)

Advancement 12 Report

Grandpa Fuller entered the Maze.

Sophia Vergara briefly became the Ball Toss champion with a score of 22 before Jackie Chan topped her with a 25. In between, Shaquille O’Neal scored a 16.

The Stalker, Chase Pleonexi, took control of the Robot at the Robot Race.

Finally, long lines settled in at both the Ball Toss and the Robot Race. They’re already at capacity for next Turn unless someone gives up their place in line.

Proposal: Waterproof Mantle [Core] [Special Case]

Timed out 1 vote to 2. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 01 Dec 2022 11:39:27 UTC

To the “Fair Play” bullet points, add:-

* If the Mantle Limitations Special Case rule was active during the previous dynasty, the Proprietor should not attempt to pass the role of Proprietor to another Group in return for a favour performed during that dynasty.

Remove “(Groups should also not make deals based on being made Emperor of the next dynasty by other means than achieving victory or being passed the mantle.)” from the Special Case rule “Mantle Limitations”.

The Mantle Limitations clause about cross-dynastic deals is currently a mild “should” with no wider context: it would be clearer with the weight of Fair Play behind it. It would also make more sense to police the actual payout of any such deal, rather than only its agreement.

Proposal: Thank You For Your Visit

Timed out 3 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 01 Dec 2022 11:38:58 UTC

Add a subrule to “Turns” called “Closing Time”:-

The Proprietor may Advance the Queues at any time, so long as the Groups named JonathanDark, Kevan and Trapdoorspyder all have at least one Jostling Visitor each at that point.

In “Turns”, replace “If the date is after December 4th 2022, or the time is after noon on December 4th 2022,” with:-

If the Queues have been Advanced four or more times since 12:00 on 29 November 2022

Looks like we’re into an endgame window of three players chucking a lot of dice, so let’s speed that up, it doesn’t need to take five days.

Proposal: The Wrong Side of Midnight

Reached quorum 5 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 30 Nov 2022 09:33:04 UTC

In the rule “Turns”, replace

If the date is on or after December 4th 2022

with

If the date is after December 4th 2022, or the time is after noon on December 4th 2022,

Given my habit of Advancing the Queues around midnight, this should clarify which turn is the endgame turn by moving the retirement moment to be clearly after the midnight turn boundary.

Proposal: Geodesic Showdown

Timed out 3 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 30 Nov 2022 09:23:49 UTC

Add a new subrule to the rule “Attraction List”. Call it “Arena Dome” and give it the following text:

The Dome King is either a Visitor or nobody, defaulting to nobody. The current turn’s Dome King is publicly tracked in the Information Center, except that it might track the following turn’s Dome King instead while Advancing the Queues.

The Arena Dome is a Queue. Its Front Effect is “If there is more than one Visitor in this Queue, roll DICE4. The visitor in that position in this Attraction’s Visitor List is the Dome King next Turn. If that position is past the end of the list, nobody is the Dome King next Turn. Any Visitors who are in the front four spots of this Queue, other than the next turn’s Dome King, move to the Plaza.”

Add a new subrule to the rule “Stamps”. Call it “Defending the Title” and give it the following text:

When the current turn’s Dome King experiences the Front Effect of the Arena Dome without having previously left the Arena Dome that turn, they are awarded the K Stamp.

Add the following text to the rule “Rushing Queues” immediately before its final sentence:

If a Queue is Gated, it cannot be Rushed.

Since the multi-armed bandit minigames are the main ones that haven’t died for various reasons, might as well lean into it.

Advancement 11 Report

Grandpa Fuller bought Popcorn at the Popcorn Stand.

Nigel Cartlesham scored 13 at the Ball Toss due to greasy hands. If he somehow did not have greasy hands, he scored 25 instead. Cornelius Overbold scored 22 and Katelyn Dubose scored 21.

Jackie Chan did a lap at the Robot Race and took control of the Robot.

Somewhere in here, Nigel Cardlesham lost his food and received a Y Stamp, possibly affecting his Ball Toss score if it happened before the Ball Toss attempt (see above) but not changing the Champion.

As a final effect of Advancing the Queues, Anderson Cooper became eligible to be Crowned as Champion, although the actual crowning hasn’t happened yet.

Proposal: Dinner is served

Reached quorum 4 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 28 Nov 2022 16:09:28 UTC

In the subrule “The Food Court”, replace this text

The Food Court is a Gated Attraction.

with this text

The Food Court is a Gated Queue. Rushing the Queue is not allowed for this Queue. Its front effect is: “Admit 10: If the Visitor is carrying 2 different Food items, remove all Food items and award the Visitor a Y stamp”

If this rule is enacted, leave all Visitors currently in the Food Court in the Food Court Queue, and retroactively apply the Front Effect to any Visitor who would have met the criteria for the Front Effect in previous instances of Advance the Queues.

Repeal the “Let’s Eat” subrule.

I think that should address the issue of when to award the Y stamp for the Food Court, and should also be fair to Nigel Cartlesham

Proposal: You Humans Do This For Fun?

Timed out 2 votes to 1. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 28 Nov 2022 16:06:43 UTC

To “The Robot”, add a paragraph:-

The Robot has no need, it claims, for human sustenance. It may not be moved to Bucky’s BBQ Stand, the Popcorn Stand, the Food Court Line or the Bathroom Line. Any If a Food is passed or given to the Robot in any way, that Food is instead lost.

If The Robot is in any of those places at the time of enactment, or is in the Bathroom or the Food Court, move it to The Plaza. If the Robot is carrying any Food at the time of enactment, that Food is lost. Add $2 to the Bucky Group’s Money.

A coda to Solving the Bot Trap, which gives the Proprietor sole control over if and when the Bot leaves the Bathroom - saying instead that the Bot can never enter the Bathroom in the first place (nor other unpleasant human-specific locations).

Queue Advancement 10 Report

Bucky Bot and Grandpa Fuller rode the Ferris Wheel together.

Jonny Sims entered the Maze.

Martin Blacktree bought Brisket.

James Sash bought a Souvenier at the Gift Shop.

Tom Hand scored 17 on the Ball Toss. As the fourth member of his Group to be admitted this turn, his toss awarded a T stamp to Martin Blacktree.

Anderson Cooper entered the Food Court.

Finally, Sophia Vergara took over Robot Operator duty at the Robot Race.

Proposal: Shiny Follower

Passes 4-0 with a quorum in favor. -Bucky

Adminned at 27 Nov 2022 22:17:19 UTC

Create a new subrule to the rule “Visitors”. Call it “The Stalker” and give it the following text:

There is an NPC named “Chase Pleonexi”, who is the Stalker. The Stalker can only Walk to or Rush a Queue if no other Queue has more Souvenier items held by the Visitors in it.

If the Stalker is Jostling or in the Plaza or Bathroom, any Visitor may cause the Stalker to Walk to a Queue, other than its current Attraction, that it can legally Walk to.

Shortly before turning the Traffic Light Red, if the Stalker is Jostling in a Queue but another Queue has more Souvenier items held by its Visitors, the Proprietor should have the Stalker rush the Queue with the most such Souveniers. The Stalker should not otherwise Rush any Queue.

If the proposal “Solving the Bot Trap” failed, remove ” or Bathroom” from the new rule.

Create the “Chase Pleonexi” visitor under the Proprietor’s control, listed last among the Proprietor’s Visitors. Give the “Chase Pleonexi” Visitor a Souvenier item.

Souveniers are currently paperweights. This gives them a payoff - manipulating an NPC into following you around.

Proposal: Solving the Bot Trap

Passes 3-0 after more than 48 hours. -Bucky

Adminned at 27 Nov 2022 22:12:43 UTC

In the rule “Bathroom”, replace

No Visitor can be removed from the Bathroom

with

No non-NPC Visitor can be removed from the Bathroom

...and solving it for more than just the Robot, in case we acquire more NPCs.

Proposal: Uneasy Lies the Head [Special Case]

Reached quorum 4 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 26 Nov 2022 15:48:03 UTC

In “Mantle Limitations”, replace “The mantle may not be passed.” with:-

The mantle may not be passed, except as a result of a Call for Judgment.

Set the rule “Mantle Limitations” to active.

Putting the other half of Dormantle back up, a week on. Bucky was the only player to specifically vote AGAINST it, citing a (possibly now obsolete?) intention to propose a merit-random victory condition for the dynasty, and their regrets over not having been able to pass the mantle themselves last interregnum.

Maybe we should make it clearer that a player stuck with a victory they don’t wish to take forward can - with the blessing of the group - still pass the mantle by CfJ during interregnum.

Quorum drops to 4.

Proposal: QA Timing Refinements

Enacts 4-0 with a Quorum in favor. -Bucky

Adminned at 25 Nov 2022 19:36:43 UTC

Add the following text to the end of the rule “Robot Race”:

The Robot Race should always be the last Attraction in the list of Attractions in the Information Center. New Attractions are added to the list immediately before it.

In the list of steps of Advancing the Queues in the rule “Turns”, move the step beginning with “Change the color” to be immediately after the step beginning with “Post a blog entry”.

Now that the R stamp makes the Robot Controller matter mid-Advancement, control changes should be predictably processed after any attraction-based stamp awards. Meanwhile, while it’s unlikely for a Traffic Action between the green light and the summary to require a change in the summary, I’d rather eliminate the possibility entirely.

Proposal: Popularity Contest

Fewer than a quorum not voting against. Failed 1 vote to 4 by Kevan.

Adminned at 25 Nov 2022 14:48:30 UTC

Add a new subrule to the rule “Stamps”. Call it “Proposal Pride” and give it the following text:

As a Traffic Action, a Visitor who has been in the Plaza since the start of the turn may make a blog post boasting about a proposal, provided that the proposal meets all the following criteria:
* It has not previously been the subject of a valid boast.
* It was authored by their own Group
* It is Popular.
* Either it is currently pending, or it has been enacted during the current Turn.

A post purporting to be a boast but not meeting those criteria is not a valid boast. Upon posting a valid boast (done by their Group on their behalf, specifying which Visitor is boasting), the boasting Visitor is awarded a P stamp for their pride in their Group’s accomplishment, and may not take any further Traffic Actions for the rest of the Turn.

The Plaza crowd is a captive audience, right?

Stamp Black Book, 2nd edition

Queue Advancement 9 Report

Kent Tucky and Anderson Cooper rode the Ferris Wheel together, both gaining an F stamp.

Jonny Sims bought Brisket.

Bucky Bot bought Popcorn.

Cornelius Overbold and Katelyn Dubose failed to set new Ball Toss high scores with scores of 20 and 17 respectively. Cornelius Overbold found Joy in the process, earning a J stamp.

Martin Blacktree did a lap of the Robot Race and took control of the Robot for Trapdoorspyder.

Proposal: Ninety Pine Chests

Add a new entry to the ‘Other’ list of Keywords in the Appendix, in the correct alphabetical position as follows:

NPC
NPC stands for Non-Player Character. NPCs can only exist as defined by dynastic rules, and while they can be more tightly defined within those rules, they must as a minimum standard be game entities that possess some (but not necessarily all) of the characteristics of a Group, but which are not under the ownership (where ‘ownership’ is defined as ongoing direct control) of a single, specific, named Group (although they may be under the ownership of the Proprietor).

We keep using the term “NPC” in dynasties without regard for the fact that the ruleset doesn’t know what that is, and yes, it does occasionally lead to a scammy win. It’s been my laundry list of things to pin down for a while, so here’s a first attempt.

Proposal: Rebooting the Bot

Timed out 3 votes to 3. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 25 Nov 2022 14:30:11 UTC

Reword the front effect of the Robot Race to:-

Admit 1: This Visitor becomes the Robot Operator (unless the Visitor’s name is Bucky Bot), and this Visitor’s Group becomes the sole controller of the Visitor whose name is “Bucky Bot”.

Reword “Reward by Proxy” to:-

One Visitor is the Robot Operator: their identity is publicly tracked.

When the Visitor named “Bucky Bot” earns a stamp associated with a letter that it did not already have a stamp for, the Robot Operator is awarded the “R” Stamp.

Set the Robot Operator to be the Visitor who was most recently admitted to the Robot Race, and assign control of the Visitor named Bucky Bot to whichever Group the Robot Operator belongs to.

Repeal the rule “The Robot”.

Making the Robot just a regular Visitor who moves between Groups probably works, doesn’t it? (And making Robot Operator a Visitor, rather than a Group where we also care about a particular Visitor in that group.)

Proposal: Bounties of Fun!

Times out and fails 1-4. -Bucky

Adminned at 24 Nov 2022 18:31:57 UTC

Set the special case rule “Bounties” to active. If a majority of EVC’s contained the text “Braai Bounty” change “This sentence names, at the end of this sentence after a colon, a single dynastic resource or variable, which is the Bounty Reward Variable for this dynasty: Royal Gift” to “This sentence names, at the end of this sentence after a colon, a single dynastic resource or variable, which is the Bounty Reward Variable for this dynasty: Brisket”

No scams this time I promise, I just feel like getting some ideas.

Call for Judgment: T Minus One

Reached quorum 5 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 23 Nov 2022 18:44:24 UTC

In the rule “Well-timed Good Times”, change “have the Front Effect of a Queue applied to them” (if that text is present there) to “have Front Effects applied to them”.

Give a T Stamp to a random Visitor controlled by Kevan.

If a Queue Advance has occurred since this CfJ was raised, and if any Group would have received a T Stamp during it under the above amended wording, but did not gain such a Stamp from it, give a T Stamp to a random Visitor who does not already have a T stamp from each such Group.

If the proposal “Good Times Apart” has not yet been resolved, enact a new rule “Good Time Patch”:-

Whenever a proposal called “Good Times Apart” enacts, replace “have Front Effects applied to them” with “have the Front Effects of different Queues applied to them” in the dynastic ruleset immediately after its enactment, and then repeal this rule.

Whenever a proposal called “Good Times Apart” fails, repeal this rule.

The T-Stamp is awarded when “four or more Visitors from the same Group have the Front Effect of a Queue applied to them in the same Turn”.

I’d read this as meaning that if four Visitors reached the front of different Queues at the same time, one of them would get the Stamp. Bucky appears to disagree (or to at least consider it unresolvable), since they did not grant such a Stamp during the most recent Queue Advance and did not consider it a mistake to correct when it was pointed out.

To me the rule reads clearly as allowing a group spread across multiple Queues to receive the Stamp. Did Cornelius have the Front Effect of a Queue applied to him? Yes. Did Lucrezia? Yes. Etc.

Contextually, the rule in question is called “Well-timed Good Times” and praises a feat of “impressive coordination”, which reads as if the rule is intended to apply across multiple synchronised queues. T Stamps were proposed and enacted at a time when all Queues in the game had an Admission size of 3 or fewer, and the later addition of the long, fast Gift Shop queue was an unexpected alternative way to pick up the Stamp. If anyone was reading the initial proposal as “must all be in the same Queue”, it was unremarked upon during voting that the T-Stamp would - under the then-ruleset - be impossible to attain.

(This proposal is also tacking a patch onto the end so that it won’t undercut Good Times Apart if the CfJ resolves first.)

Proposal: It’s No Picnic

Change the front effect of the Food Court Line from “Admit 1: Move the Visitor to the Food Court” to:-

Admit 1: If the the Visitor is carrying Food, move them to the Food Court; otherwise move them to Security.

Add a subrule to “Attraction List” called “Security”:-

Security is a Gated Attraction. A Visitor in Security may only perform a Traffic Action if the Group performing it pays $20 immediately before doing so.

Patrons are reminded that only food and drink purchased from concession stands can be consumed at the Food Court.

In the rule “Well-timed Good Times”, change:

When four or more Visitors from the same Group have the Front Effect of a Queue applied to them in the same Turn

to

When four or more Visitors from the same Group have the Front Effects of different Queues applied to them in the same Turn

Moving the goalpost for “impressive coordination” out of line-of-sight, thereby eliminating dependence on the Gift Shop.

Proposal: Ill-Timed Bad Times

Fewer than a quorum not voting against. Failed 1 vote to 6 by Kevan.

Adminned at 22 Nov 2022 09:16:35 UTC

Repeal the rule “Well-timed Good Times”.

If any Visitor has any T Stamps, add to the end of the final paragraph of “Stamps”:-

(T Stamps always have a Personal Value of zero.)

T-Stamps are probably creating too much incentive to make all Visitor moves at the last possible moment before the Proprietor switches the Traffic Light, in case the queues happen to be empty enough to allow an easy points grab (maybe even +50).

Add a new subrule titled “Let’s Eat” to the rule “Stamps”

When a Visitor remains in the Food Court for one full Turn and is holding 2 different Food items, on the next Advance the Queues they lose all Food items and gain a Y stamp for the yummy meal they just had.

Summaries of Turns 2 and 3

Since the other turns all have associated blog posts, I figured I’d put out a late unofficial version for the two turns where it wasn’t done or required.

During the second turn:
Katelyn Dubose and Jackie Chan rode the Ferris Wheel.
Efren Vaughan, Cornelius Overbold and Anderson Cooper took the Maze Line into the Maze.

During the third turn:
Myung Guerin and Jonny Sims rode the Ferris Wheel (gaining F). Martin Blacktree and Tom Hand took the Maze Line into the Maze, and James Sash took the Maze Line into the Plaza.
Elvis Presley took the Bathroom Line into the Bathroom.
Sophia Vergara made a purchase at the Gift Shop.
Shaquille O’Neal bought Brisket at the Barbecue stand.

Adminned at 20 Nov 2022 19:39:06 UTC

Add the following text to the end of the rule “Stamps”:

A letter’s Rarity Value is 20 minus the number of Visitors that have Stamps associated with it, to a minimum of 1. The Personal Value of a Stamp in a Visitor’s Stamp Collection is equal to its associated letter’s Rarity Value, plus twice the number of other Visitors within their Group who have Stamps with the same associated letter, plus 30 if no Visitor outside their Group has a Stamp with that associated letter.

In the rule “Turns”, change

If the date is on or after December 4th 2022 and a single Group has more Stamps than every other Group (where a Group’s Stamps are the total of all of those in the Stamp Collections of Visitors it controls), then that Group achieves victory. The Group may announce upon declaring victory that a Visitor it controls has become the Heir to the park.

to

If the date is on or after December 4th 2022 and a single Visitor’s Stamp Collection has a higher total Personal Value than that of any Visitor outside its Group, then the Proprietor shall make a Story Post appointing that Visitor the Heir, upon which the Heir’s Group achieves victory.

Making the group’s heir candidate count more than their supporters, making rarer stamps worth more for the victory calculation, and giving a monopoly bonus for being the only Group to hold a given Stamp.

Turn 6 Queue Advancement Summary

First, some gamestate corrections. Natalia Bouchard, Myung Guerin and Pontius Honeycutt were listed as being in the Plaza, in addition to their true location in the Gift Shop. Efren Vaughan was incorrectly listed as being in the Gift Shop, having failed to roll to leave the Maze. Correcting these errors was done prior to Advancing the Queues but in the same wiki update as the first step of Advancing the Queues.

Now on to the actual event:

James Sash and Katelyn Dubose rode the Ferris Wheel, but both already had an F Stamp.

Bucky Bot entered the Bathroom.

Natalia Bouchard, Myung Guerin and Pontius Honeycutt bought Souvenirs.

Sophia Vergara repeated the Robot Race for fun.

To “Attractions and Queues”, replace “The Proprietor may re-order Attractions within the Visitor Center but should only move recently added Attractions.” with:-

Attractions may not be reordered within the Visitor Center, and new additions default to being positioned at the bottom of the list there unless otherwise specified.

Then add to that rule:-

The walking distance in minutes between two Attractions is the number of other Attractions listed between them in the Visitor Center, plus one.

Replace “A Visitor may Walk to any non-Gated Attraction” with:-

A Visitor may Walk to any non-Gated Attraction within five minutes’ walking distance

Replace “Each Visitor may Rush a Queue” with:-

Each Visitor may Rush a Queue within five minutes’ walking distance

In the Visitor Center, move the Plaza to be between the Maze Line and the Bathroom, then move the Gift Shop to be between the Plaza and the Bathroom.

Locking the map down (how recently is “recently added” anyway?), and limiting how far you can get across the park in a turn.

Set “Dormancy” to active.

Set “Mantle Limitations” to active.

These two special case rules being switched off makes for an ominous combo, and it’s maybe the reason why every proposal made since day two of this dynasty (excluding those withdrawn or vetoed) has timed out.

With Dormancy off, a strong and valid strategy is to encourage inactivity by keeping the ruleset opaque, and staying only active enough to collect a reasonable amount of game resources - when enough people have dropped out, you can propose that the dynasty has sadly failed and should be ended with a merit random die roll (perhaps equally among all players, if you only have a few resources but enough to show that you were present). And with Mantle passing an option, it’s easier buy the votes of any idle/semi-idle players who aren’t already nodding that proposal through.

I already thought twice over proposing Elbow Room, because making the queues easier to understand increases the chance of more people playing the game, which lowers my odds of victory under Undormancy+Mantle.

I’d rather build and play a game.

A Group may request to be added to or removed from the @bn-tenured role in the #new-player-questions-and-mentorships channel on Discord, at which point a Discord admin may make the necessary change.

The Group may announce upon declaring victory that a Visitor it controls has become the Heir to the park.

Revisiting Bucky’s stamps-as-goal Win By Stamp Collecting, but with a simpler “most stamps wins”.

Designated Meeting Point

Habanero, Lendunistus and Madrid all idle out after seven days with no posts or comments. Quorum drops by two rungs to 5. None of the idled Groups have Visitors at the carnival.

Proposal: Elbow Room

Adminned at 17 Nov 2022 12:57:14 UTC

To “Attractions and Queues”, add to the end of the third paragraph:-

Each Visitor in a Queue is either Jostling (tracked by recording their name in italics within that Queue’s list) or Settled (tracked by a lack of such italics), defaulting to Jostling when they join a Queue.

In “Rushing Queues”, replace “the number of Visitors currently in that Queue who were added to it during the current turn” with:-

the number of Jostling Visitors currently in that Queue

Add a new bullet point after the first in “Turns”:-

* Set all Jostling Visitors in Queues to Settled.

For each Visitor who is in a Queue which they did not join during the current turn, set them to Settled; set all other Visitors in Queues to Jostling.

Explicitly tracking who’s new to a queue, to make the main gameplay mechanic easier to read, and to allow effects to be built more easily on top of it.

Proposal: Idle Visitor Quick Fix

Timed out 4 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 17 Nov 2022 08:50:17 UTC

Add the following to the end of the first paragraph of the rule “Visitors”:

The names of Visitors that were created under the control of currently-idle Groups continue to be publicly tracked; these Visitors are known as Sleepers.

In the rule “Money and Items”, change

unless doing so would reduce that Money below zero,

unless doing so would reduce that Money below zero or that Visitor is a Sleeper,

Proposal: Some Competition

Enacts 3-0 after more than 48 hours. -Bucky

Adminned at 16 Nov 2022 22:39:58 UTC

Add a new subrule to “Attraction List” called “Ball Toss”, with this text:

The Ball Toss High Score is a publicly tracked positive Integer, defaulting to 10.

At any given time, one Visitor is the publicly tracked Ball Toss Champion. This defaults to the first listed Visitor under the Proprietor’s control.

The Ball Toss is a Queue. The Ball Toss’s Front Effect is “Admit 3: Roll 10DICE3. If the result is higher than the Ball Toss High Score, it becomes the new Ball Toss High Score and this Visitor becomes the Ball Toss Champion.”

A Visitor holding Brisket has greasy hands, and therefore has 10DICE2 rolled when Admitted to the Ball Toss instead of 10DICE3.

Add a new subrule to the rule “Stamps”, called “Ball Tossing Contest” with the following text:

If the Ball Toss High Score is not equal to its default value, and either the Ball Toss High Score is equal to 30 or the Ball Toss Champion did not change during the last three instances of Advancing the Queues, then as an atomic action called Crowning the Champion, any Group may award a B Stamp to the current Ball Toss Champion, then set the Ball Toss Champion and the Ball Toss High Score to their default values.

Proposal: Plaza Puppet Performance

Withdrawn. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 15 Nov 2022 11:37:32 UTC

Add the following text to the subrule “Plaza” in the rule “Attraction List”

The Puppet Show is a Queue. Its Front Effect is “Admit all: Gain 1 Puppet Prize item if the Turn ends in the month of November UTC time. Move the Visitor to the Plaza.”

Add the following subrule titled “Puppet Prize” to the rule “Money and Items”

The park does not allow Puppet Prizes to leave the Plaza. Any Visitor who walks to or rushes any Attraction or Queue that is not the Plaza loses their Puppet Prize if they have one.

A Puppet Prize may not be passed to other Visitors. It may also not be placed in any containers or storage defined by the rules.

Add the following subrule titled “Puppet Prize” to the rule “Stamps”

During Advance the Queues on any Turn ending after December 15th, any Visitors who are carrying a Puppet Prize get a P stamp if they don’t already have one.

Proposal: Activity Flag Zed

Passes 5-0 after more than 48 hours. -Bucky

Adminned at 14 Nov 2022 19:25:35 UTC

If the proposal “Zzz” is enacted, this proposal does nothing.

In the rule Stamps, change

Each Stamp has a letter associated with it, for example a “Z stamp”, defaulting to Z.

to

Each Stamp has a letter associated with it, for example a “X stamp”, defaulting to X.

and

New Visitors start with “Z” as their stamp collection - they are immediately awarded a Z stamp upon becoming a Visitor.

to

New Visitors start with an empty stamp collection.

When a Visitor leaves the Plaza for the first time, they are awarded a Z stamp for waking up.

Kevan says the Z stamp serves no purpose right now. True, but it’s better to give it a purpose than to stop awarding it entirely.

Proposal: Zzz

Timed out 2 votes to 3. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 14 Nov 2022 10:51:14 UTC

Remove “New Visitors start with “Z” as their stamp collection - they are immediately awarded a Z stamp upon becoming a Visitor.” from the ruleset.

Replace “as a text string” with “as a text string (or empty string)”.

Remove all Z Stamps from Visitors.

Seems like we don’t need to track a default Stamp that everyone starts with and which can never be removed (and which some people are forgetting to track, with the Proprietor sounding uninterested in fixing oversights).

Stuck in Traffic

Snisbo and TyGuy idle out after 7 and 8 days of inactivity respectively, having made no posts or comments since the dynasty started.

Proposal: Re-Itemization

Timed out 4 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 14 Nov 2022 10:30:56 UTC

In the rule “Money and Items” replace this text

Each Visitor is carrying a number of Items. This is publicly tracked, and default to carrying no Items.

with this text

Each Visitor is able to carry 0-2 Items, which are any objects identified as “item” or “Item” in the rules. Visitors default to carrying 0 Items. Every Item carried by each Visitor is publicly tracked.

If a Visitor is already carrying the maximum number of Items, any rule or action that would give the Visitor another Item does not give them the Item, does not add or subtract any Money belonging to the Visitor’s Group, and does not award any Stamps associated with giving the Item to the Visitor.

A Visitor may drop an Item, but the Item is then lost and cannot be picked back up. Dropping an Item is a Traffic Action.

An Item may have a Group effect or action that applies to all Visitors in the same Group. Any Item that has a Group effect or action must still be held and tracked to one specific Visitor in the Group.

If “Hold My Beer” is enacted, replace the text in the “Money and Items” section:

A Visitor may pass an Item they are carrying to another Visitor controlled by the same Group, if both of those Visitors are present at the same Attraction

With the following text below. If “Hold My Beer” is not enacted, add the following text to the “Money and Items” section:

A Visitor may pass an Item they are carrying to another Visitor controlled by the same Group, if both of those Visitors are present at the same Attraction and if there is no rule preventing the Item from being passed to the receiving Visitor. Passing an Item is a Traffic Action.

Proposal: Roaming Robot

Timed out 6 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 14 Nov 2022 10:11:49 UTC

Add the following text to the end of the rule “Visitors”:

An NPC is any Visitor controlled by the Proprietor other than the one named “Grandpa Fuller”.

Create a subrule to “Visitors” named “The Robot” with the following text:

There is an NPC named “Bucky Bot”, who is the Robot . At any given time, one Group is the Robot Operator, defaulting to the Proprietor; this is publicly tracked. The Robot Operator may cause the Robot to take Traffic Actions as though they controlled the Robot. The Proprietor, unless he is also the Robot Operator, may not cause the Robot to take Traffic Actions.

Add a subrule to “Attractions List” called “Robot Race”, with the following text:

The Robot Race is a Queue. Its Front Effect is “Admit 1: their Group becomes the Robot Operator.”

Create the “Bucky Bot” visitor under the Proprietor’s control.

Proposal: Itemization

Adminned at 12 Nov 2022 10:13:05 UTC

Each Visitor is carrying a number of Items. This is publicly tracked, and default to carrying no Items.

with this text

Each Visitor is able to carry 0-2 Items, which are any objects identified as “item” or “Item” in the rules. Visitors default to carrying 0 Items. Every Item carried by each Visitor is publicly tracked.

If a Visitor is already carrying the maximum number of Items, they cannot receive another Item from any rule or action that would give them an Item. Any action that would give the Visitor more Items than the maximum invalidates the entire action.

In “Bucky’s BBQ Stand”, replace “Gain 1 Brisket, costing $5.” with

Gain 1 Brisket item, costing $5. Brisket is a Food.

In “Maze”, replace “When a Visitor attempts to Walk or Rush a Queue to leave the Maze” with:-

Proposal: Dunker’s Dilemma

Vetoed. -Bucky

Adminned at 11 Nov 2022 18:24:21 UTC

Add a new subrule to the rule “Attraction List”, call it the “Double Dunk Tank” and give it the following text;

The Double Dunk Tank is a Queue. While in the Double Dunk Tank, Visitors’s Groups may privately message the Proprietor to declare the Visitor’s intent to do one of Cover or Dunk - their Tank Action is their last intent thus messaged while the Traffic Light was Green, or Cover if their Group never sent such a message.

The Double Dunk Tank’s front effect consists of several steps:
* First, choosing the first Visitor in the queue and the next visitor who isn’t controlled by the same group as the first as the turn’s Sitters. If this selection cannot be made, skip the rest of the Front Effect.
* Each Sitter who chose Dunk Drenches the other Sitter, and each Sitter who chose Cover Protects the other Sitter.
* Finally, move the Sitters and all Visitors between them in this Queue to the Plaza.

Add a subrule “Dunker’s Dilemma” to the rule “Stamps”. Give it the following text:

A Sitter in the Dunk Tank who is Protected receives a C stamp for gaining the trust of their fellow.
A Sitter in the Dunk Tank who Drenches the other Sitter while being Protected also receives the coveted D stamp for their mastery of deception.

Proposal: There’s Always Money in the Brisket Stand

Passes 7-1 after more than 48 hours. -Bucky

(vote count corrected)

Adminned at 11 Nov 2022 17:34:31 UTC

If the proposal “Fuel for the Fight” failed, add a new rule called “Money and Items”:-

Each Group has a publicly tracked pool of Money, defaulting to $100. Whenever something happens to a Visitor which costs an amount of Money, this is subtracted from the Money of the Group that controls them (unless doing so would reduce that Money below zero, in which case the Money is instead not reduced and the costed occurrence does not happen to that Visitor).

Each Visitor is carrying a number of Items. This is publicly tracked, and default to carrying no Items.

If “Fuel for the Fight” passed, instead add a new rule called “Money” containing only the first paragraph of the above blockquote.

Reword the rule “Bucky’s BBQ Stand” to the following (or create it as a subrule of Attraction List, with the following text, if it doesn’t exist):-

Bucky’s BBQ Stand is a Queue. Its front effect is: Admit 3: Gain 1 Brisket, costing $5.

Add a subrule to “Attraction List” called “Gift Shop”:-

The Gift Shop is a Queue. Its Front Effect is: Admit 10: Gain 1 Souvenier item, costing $10.

If “Fuel for the Fight” enacted, add an Item to the “Sticky Fingers” rule:-

* Souvenier. Ongoing: No effect.

Unclear if Fuel for the Fight is going to pass, but items seem like an idea worth pursuing. If Fuel fails, this instead suggests having them held by specific Visitors, which may have more potential for how they interact with particular attractions.

Proposal: No Relation

Withdrawn by author. TyGuy6.

Adminned at 10 Nov 2022 05:13:22 UTC

In “Visitors”, replace “If a Group contains fewer than four Visitors, that Group may create a new Visitor with a Name of the Group’s choice which is different from all other Visitor Names (including Visitors belonging to idle Groups), under their control.” with:

If a Group contains fewer than four Visitors, that Group may create a new Visitor under their own control with a Name of the Group’s choice which is different from all other Visitor Names (including Visitors belonging to idle Groups), and which is not a Famous Name.

Add to that rule:-

A Name is Famous if a regular Wikipedia search for it, within quote marks, returns any results (excluding results which only exist as a result of an edit to Wikipedia made after October 2022). Visitors with Famous Names may not be added to queues other than the Plaza. The controller of a Visitor with a Famous Name may change that Visitor’s Name to a non-Famous Name, at any time.

Visitor names seem split between famous names and original inventions, right now. Attempting to pick a direction.

Proposal: Bathroom Break

Adminned at 10 Nov 2022 05:11:09 UTC

Add the following subrule titled “Bathroom” to the rule “Attraction List”

The Bathroom is a Gated Attraction

No Visitor can be removed from the Bathroom except by the Group that controls them, by CfJ, or by repeal of this rule.

The Bathroom Line is a Queue. Its Front Effect is “Admit 1: Move the Visitor to the Bathroom if the Bathroom has less than 3 Visitors in it.”

Notice: Queues have Advanced

Proposal: Fuel for the Fight

Timed out 3 votes to 5. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 09 Nov 2022 12:31:36 UTC

Add a new rule, called Sticky Fingers, with the following text:

Each Group may be carrying up to 2 items, which are publicly tracked and default to carrying no items. Items that can be carried must be defined in this rule. If a Group would gain an Item and doing so would cause them to be carrying more than two Items then they do not gain that Item.

Items can have an effect, which must be either On Use or Ongoing. An Item with an On Use effect may only be used to generate that effect as defined by the ruleset; an Item with an Ongoing effect has its effect passively while held. Item effecs affect all Visitors in the Group that holds them.

The Items that can be held are as follows:
* Brisket. On Use: Enables Rushing a Queue (see the rule Rushing Queues).
* FastPass. On Use: A single Visitor in the Group, chosen by the Group, gains the Admit effect of a single Attraction instantly.
* Giant Stuffed Bear. Ongoing: All Visitors in the holding Group have the stamp V; this is not lost if this Item is no longer held.

Add a new Attraction to the Attraction List, with a title of Bucky’s BBQ Stand, and the following text:

Bucky’s BBQ Stand is a Queue. Its front effect is: Admit 3: Gain 1 Brisket.

Rewrite the rule Rushing Queues to read as follows:

Once per Turn, a Group may use a Brisket that it is holding to have one of its Visitors Rush a Queue. When a Visitor Rushes a Queue, they roll DICEX where X is the number of Visitors currently in that Queue who were added to it during the current turn. They then themselves to the back of the Queue, then advance that many places in the Queue.

Add the following subrule titled “The Maze’s Treasure” to the rule “Stamps”:

Once per turn, a Visitor in the Maze may Search, rolling DICE with 6-N sides, where N is the number of times they have Searched in the Maze since they last entered it. If the result is a 1, they find and are awarded the M stamp. This is a Traffic Action.

When a Visitor has been in the same Queue for the past four complete Turns, they receive a W stamp for their unrivalled patience and stubbornness.

Add the following subrule titled “Again!” to the rule “Stamps”:

Proposal: Win By Stamp Collecting

1-5 after 48 hours and thus not Popular. -Bucky

Adminned at 08 Nov 2022 22:36:51 UTC

Add a dynastic rule called “Retirement” to the ruleset with the following text:

If the date is on or after December 4th, 2022, the Proprietor can Retire. Retiring consists of performing the following atomic action:
* Choose a random non-Z stamp that is in some Visitor’s Stamp Collection. This Visitor is the Heir for the remainder of the current Retiring action.
* If the Heir is the Proprietor’s first listed Visitor, the Heir is rejected.
* Choose a random Visitor (the Rival) controlled by a different Group from the Heir. If the Rival has a stamp associated with the same letter as the chosen stamp, the Heir is rejected.
* If the Heir has not been rejected during the current Retiring action, make a story post accepting the Heir as the new owner of the park, causing the Group that controls the Heir to achieve victory.

Once an Heir has been accepted in the last step of the Retiring action, the Proprietor may not Retire again for the rest of the Turn.

Proposal: Red Light Green Light

Passes 6-1 after more than 48 hours. -Bucky

Adminned at 08 Nov 2022 22:33:12 UTC

Add a rule to the ruleset. Call it “Traffic Light” and give it the following text:

There is a Traffic Light whose color may be Green or Red and defaults to Green. Its color is tracked at the top of the Information Center.

If the Proprietor is allowed to Advance the Queues, the Proprietor may turn the Traffic Light Red to indicate his intent to do so. If the Traffic Light has been Red for the last four hours, any Group may change it to Green; or, the Proprietor may change it to Green at any time.

If the Traffic Light is Red, no actions defined as Traffic Actions may be taken. Any action that changes a Visitor’s presence at an Attraction but isn’t part of Advancing the Queues is a Traffic Action unless otherwise specified.

Add the following step to the end of the “Advancing the Queues” action in the rule “Turns”:

* Change the color of the Traffic Light to Green.

In the rule “Rushing Queues”, remove “if they have not previously Rushed any Queue during the current Turn”.

Add the following sentences to the end of the rule “Rushing Queues”:

Rushing a Queue is a Traffic Action. Visitors who have Rushed a Queue during the current Turn may take no further Traffic Actions.

In the rule “Attractions and Queues”, change

A Visitor may Walk to any non-Gated Attraction at any time, putting themselves at the bottom of that Attraction’s List.

to

A Visitor may Walk to any non-Gated Attraction, putting themselves at the bottom of that Attraction’s List. Walking is a Traffic Action.

In the rule “Maze”, change

cannot Walk or Rush any Queue for the rest of the Turn

to

cannot take any Traffic Actions for the rest of the Turn

Going back to the original automatic Dormancy rule, without the attempt to handle situations where the queue is moving but only a couple of people are actually proposing or playing the dynastic game.

(The current “only one non-Emperor player is submitting proposals or game actions” basically never happens, and people seem to be against raising that bar to “only two non-Emperor players”, a point which the recent monster metropolis dynasty reached a few times.)

Proposal: Add rules about other Visitors actions during Atomic Action

Fails withdrawn. -Bucky

Adminned at 07 Nov 2022 19:54:21 UTC

Add the following rules to the Atomic Actions section

  • The Visitor performing this Atomic Action shall post a blog entry indicating this Atomic Action is starting, unless it is itself a step of a parent Atomic Action. Atomic Actions are illegal and invalid unless they are started with a blog post in this manner, except if they are child Atomic Actions of an Atomic Action.
  • The Visitor performing this Atomic Action may also post its completion within the same blog entry as the start of the Atomic Action
  • The gamestate is considered fixed and unchangeable during this Atomic Action and any parent Atomic Action and child Atomic Actions, except by the Visitor performing this Atomic Action and any parent Atomic Action or child Atomic Actions, until this Atomic Action and any parent Atomic Action and child Atomic Actions are completed or been undone
  • Other actions taken during this Atomic Action but not included in this Atomic Action, including another Atomic Action that is not the parent or child of this Atomic Action, are considered to have occurred after this Atomic Action and its parent Atomic Action and child Atomic Actions are completed or been undone
  • All rules for any actions taken by any Visitors during this Atomic Action, including another Atomic Action that is not the parent or child of this Atomic Action, must use the gamestate as it exists after this Atomic Action and its parent Atomic Action and child Atomic Actions are completed or been undone

Replace this rule:

  • For the purposes of determining the ordering or legality of game actions, the time of an Atomic Action shall be the time that it is completed. For Atomic Actions that are redone, the time of completion is the last redone step.

With this rule:

  • For the purposes of determining the ordering or legality of game actions, the time of an Atomic Action shall be the time that it is started.

Proposal: Clarify when Visitors are allowed to walk to an attraction

Fails withdrawn - Bucky

Adminned at 07 Nov 2022 18:25:14 UTC

Append the phrase “except during the atomic action of Advance the Queues” to the end of “A Visitor may Walk to any non-Gated Attraction at any time”

Justification: It might take a measurable amount of time for the Proprietor to carry out the Advance the Queues Front effects. This clarification prevents visitors from walking to non-gated attractions during the Advance the Queues action. Even though the Advance the Queues action is labeled “atomic”, the phrasing of “at any time” might cause conflict.

Then add a new dynastic rule before all other dynastic rules, called “Visitors”:-

Each Group controls a number of Visitors, the Names of which are publicly tracked. Each such Visitor has a publicly tracked Name, which is flavour text and consists of a single-word Forename and single-word Surname.

Where a rule defines an action as being taken by a Visitor, it may be taken by the Group that controls it, on that Visitor’s behalf.

If a Group contains fewer than four Visitors, that Group may create a new Visitor with a Name of the Group’s choice which is different from all other Visitor Names (including Visitors belonging to idle Groups), under their control. The Proprietor may not create a Visitor in this way if they already control a Visitor.

We’re probably going to need a bigger crowd at the carnival, if we want to do interesting things with queues. Having each player control multiple visitors (and the Proprietor control just one, representing themselves) would be a way to do that.

Add a new dynastic rule to the ruleset. Call it “Stamps” and give it the following text:

Various rules award Stamps to visitors. Each Stamp has a letter associated with it, for example a “Z stamp”, defaulting to Z.

Each Visitor has a Stamp Collection, which is a set of stamps they have been awarded. A Visitor’s Stamp Collection is tracked in the Information Center as a text string consisting of the associated letters of each of their stamps in alphabetical order, for example “CPZ” denoting the C, P and Z stamps. A visitor can only have one stamp associated with each letter, such that gaining a stamp they already have has no effect. New Visitors start with “Z” as their stamp collection - they are immediately awarded a Z stamp upon becoming a Visitor.

Stamps cannot be lost once gained except by CfJ or by the repeal of this rule. The Proprietor should veto proposals that award Visitors stamps they have not earned.

Proposal: Lining Up

Add a new Dynastic Rule to the Ruleset. Call it “Attractions and Queues”, and give it the following text:

There are several Attractions whose information is tracked in the Information Center, generally defined in Attraction List subrules. The Proprietor may re-order Attractions within the Visitor Center but should only move recently added Attractions. Each Attraction has a list of Visitors present, tracked in the Information Center. A given Visitor can only be at one Attraction at a time, and adding them to one Attraction removes them from all other Attractions.

Some Attractions are Gated, notated by (G) after the Attraction’s name in the Information Center.

Some Attractions are Queues where explicitly defined as such by other rules. Queues’ visitor lists are strictly ordered - the top or start of the list is the front of the queue, and the bottom or end of the list is the back.

A Visitor may Walk to any non-Gated Attraction at any time, putting themselves at the bottom of that Attraction’s List.

Add a subrule to “Attractions and Queues” called “Rushing Queues” and give it the following text:

Each Visitor may Rush a Queue if they have not previously Rushed any Queue during the current Turn. To do so, they roll DICEX where X is one plus the number of Visitors currently in that Queue who were added to it during the current turn. They subtract one from the result, add themselves to the back of the Queue, then advance that many places in the Queue.

Add a new Dynastic Rule to the Ruleset. Call it “Turns” and give it the following text:

A Rule that makes an Attraction into a Queue shall also specify a Front Effect. Front Effects should generally remove the front Visitor from that Queue in addition to whatever else they do, and this is the default Front Effect if a Queue has none explicitly specified.

If the Proprietor has not done so in the past 46 hours, he may Advance the Queues as an atomic action with the following steps:
* For each Queue that has Visitors in it, in the order the Queues appear in the Information Center, carry out its Front Effect.

A Turn is a period between two instances of Advancing the Queues, or between the dynasty start and the first instance of Advancing the Queues, or after the last instance of Advancing the Queues. Things that happen as part of an instance of Advancing the Queues are considered to have happened during the preceding Turn.

Create a dynastic rule called “Attraction List” with the following text:

In a Queue’s Front Effect “Admit N:”, where N is a positive integer, is a shorthand for “Do the following to each of the first N Visitors in this Queue in order, or all of them if there are less than N, then move those visitors to the Plaza if they’re still in this Queue:”

If an Attraction has an “Admit N” in its Front Effect, the value of N should be noted for convenience in its entry at the Information Center.

Create a subrule to “Attraction List” called “Plaza” with the text:

The Plaza is an Attraction that can never be Gated, and is the default for any variable whose set of valid values is all Attractions. New players start at the end of the Plaza list.

Create a subrule to “Attraction List” called “Ferris Wheel” with the text

The Ferris Wheel is a Queue. Its Front Effect is “Admit 2: nothing.”

Create a subrule to “Attraction List” called “Maze” with the text

The Maze is a Gated Attraction. When a Visitor attempts to Walk or Rush a Queue to leave the Maze, they must first roll DICE2. On a 1, they fail to move and cannot Walk or Rush any Queue for the rest of the Turn.

The Maze Line is a Queue. Its Front Effect is “Admit 3: Move the Visitor to the Maze if the Maze has less than 5 Visitors in it.”

Put all Visitors in the Plaza in the same order they appear in the sidebar.

Welcome one, Welcome All! The Blognomic Carnival is open, and I have a great deal for y’all.

As some of you no doubt already know, I’m retiring from the business next month. I’ve gotten most all I wanted out of this ol’ funyard, but I want to see smiles coming out of it ‘til the day I die. And who better to keep the smiles flowing than one of the park’s most devoted fans. For the next thirty days, I’ll be running the grandest carnival game ever, the game that includes all the other games and more, for the ultimate grand prize of the carnival itself!

Admission from now ‘til then is free for everyone! But the more fun you have, the more of the park you explore, the better your shot at the grand prize.

The dynasty’s theme shall be “Carnival”.

Repeal all dynastic rules except “Grillin’”.

Change Host to Proprietor and Partygoer to Visitor.

The Special Case rules “Dormancy”, “Dynastic Distance”, “Event Types” and “Mantle Limitations” shall be Inactive. (Other Special Cases have their Default Statuses)

Change the gamestate tracking page to “Information Center”.

Call for Judgment: Quorum Quandry [Core] [Special Case] [Appendix]

Whereas “Idle admins can resolve Votable Matters as if they were not idle” results in the Votable Matters thus resolved having a player count one higher than other Votable Matters, and
Whereas that can result in a different Quorum for those Votable Matters, and
Whereas neither I nor, apparently, any other idle admin has been taking this into account, and
Whereas some of those Votable Matters may have been resolved illegally or wrongly as a result, and
Whereas the platonic gamestate may have drastically diverged from what we think it is as a result, and
Whereas the prospect of a retroactive uphold being abused is negligible because someone else could have resolved it instead,

Uphold the resolution of each Votable Matter resolved by an idle Admin which was illegal or incorrect but which would have been legal and correct had any non-idle Admin resolved it the same way instead.

I noticed while thinking about Raven’s accident that Idle admins resolving votable matters doesn’t quite work the way I thought it did.

I’ll propose a proper fix when I can propose.

Declaration of Victory: Bucky Burgers

Passes 9-4. -Bucky

Adminned at 05 Nov 2022 00:40:52 UTC

While Rule 2.1 specifies Energy must be non-negative, it has no such provision for medals. “Numbers and Variables” means spending is a simple subtraction. I had the Ducky and there was a Grand Party on. So I could subtract 100 from my Medals under “Medal shower”, resulting in a negative Medal quantity, to achieve victory.

In the rule “Locations”, after

A Partygoer’s Location has no effect unless a Party or Grand Party is currently taking place.

add

When a Partygoer joins a Party or Grand Party, their Location becomes the Garden.

Remove the sentence “After these changes in Party Score, everyone in the Pool moves to the Garden.” from the rule “Closing the Pool”.

Let us play a Cook Off game in honor of our beloved former DDA commander who drowned while producing a Reality TV episode.

Speaking of Reality TV, I’ve dug out my old Bucky Burger recipe for the occasion.

I thus command you all to have fun
