Add to the rule “Sites”:

At any time, an Architect may remove one or more Modules from their Site, leaving one or more empty Squares.

This would allow for more flexibility in placement of modules, as well as adding an extra strategic element - should you erase some modules to allow for better placement, or keep them to have a greater number of modules?

Remove the sentence “The Resource Modules are Hydroponics, Power and Research.” from the rule “Resource Victory”, then replace “Resource” with “Research” throughout that rule (and also its title).

Per my comment on Moon Units, maybe it’s more interesting if Research Modules (which do nothing else) are the only ones that score.

Add to the rule “Sites”:

A building is a group of contiguous modules that do not have any other modules contiguous with them.

Add to the list of civil titles:

*“Jailer” is a civil title held by the architect with the greatest number of buildings with maintained modules on their site.
*“Playground” is a civil title held by the architect with the largest number of modules needed to cross between two corridor modules by moving from one adjacent corridor to another in a section of contiguous corridor modules.

I wanted to add these titles from the beginning, but getting the phrasing right was tricky.  These should be much easier to calculate that they are to define.

Enact a new rule, “Resource Victory”:-

The Resource Modules are Hydroponics, Power and Research. An Architect’s Resource Rating is equal to the number of Maintained Resource Modules on their Site, plus 3 for each Civil Title they hold.

If the date is on or after the 20th of June 2019 and one Architect has a higher Resource Rating than every other Architect, that Architect may Monitor their own statistics: if they do so and their Site is safe immediately afterwards, that Architect has achieved victory.

(Squares which are no longer empty will not be changed.)

Card and Farsight placed incorrect versions of the starting block and Derrick placed a Quarters next to a Dock. Do a quorum approve of these moves being applied anyway?

Illegal Block Placements

Looking at the surface of the moon, Derrick dropped a Quarters Module next to a Dock Module a couple of days ago. At the time of the action, this appears to have broken the (since repealed) rule which said that “an architect may not build a Block so that a Quarters module is adjacent to a Power or Dock module on a Block which has already been built on that architect’s site”.

The most recent J-block drop was also added as if it were an L-block by Derrick and Farsight (here and here) - the drop rule allows blocks to be rotated, but not mirrored.

I’ve reverted these three placements as illegal. If any Architects disagree with this, speak up.

Update: Card and Farsight also placed their starting blocks illegally.

Setting the Monitored Architect’s Oxygen to the percentage of non-empty Squares on their Site (rounding down) which contain either a Life Support Module or a Hydroponics Module. (If there are no non-empty Squares on the site, the Monitored Architect’s Oxygen instead becomes 0%.)

For each Site with no Maintained Modules, set its Architect’s Oxygen to zero per cent.

Reproposal, but counting the modules properly this time. (And also covering the situation where a site is completely empty.)

I just Monitored Card’s Site as being at 100% Oxygen because the only two Maintained Modules were Life Support and Hydroponics, and two is 100% of two. Which seemed a bit odd.

Scoring it as a percentage of all Modules is more intuitive (and certainly easier to count), and from looking across the moonbases this is possibly how people are playing it anyway.

Remove “A Block may not have a Quarters module adjacent to a Power or Dock module. In addition, an architect may not build a Block so that a Quarters module is adjacent to a Power or Dock module on a Block which has already been built on that architect’s site.” from “Drops”.

To “Health and Safety Regulations”, add:-

Probably a good idea to move this “may not build” into a simple health and safety issue, so that if someone makes the mistake without anyone else realising, it doesn’t require any backtracking to clean it up.

Reducing the Monitored Architect’s Temperature by 1 for every Corridor Module which is adjacent to an Empty square or to the edge of the grid

To:

Reducing the Monitored Architect’s Temperature by 2 for every edge of a corridor module shared with an empty square or the edge of the grid

Change:

Increasing the Monitored Architect’s Temperature by 1 (to a maximum of 20) for every Power Module

To:

Increasing the Monitored Architect’s Temperature by 5 for every Power Module

Add to the bulleted list:

Move the Monitored Architect’s temperature by 3 towards the default temperature for every Life Support Module. If this would increase the temperature above the default or decrease it below the default, instead set the temperature to default.

Right now high temperature can’t happen, and its very hard to find yourself outside of the limits. Also, hydroponics were strictly better than life support. This gives life support two effects to compete with hydroponics, and makes temperature more interesting to work with

replace the paragraph in “Drops” starting with “If no Drop post exists” with the following:

A block description is an unambiguous description of the shape and Module arrangement of a single Block, listing the Modules in the order of the numbers on the shape’s depiction. (eg. “An T-Block of Dock, Corridor, Power, Dock.”) The default block description is an O-block with all corridors.

Each architect has a request, which is a block description tracked on the [[Moon Sites]] Page under their Site. An architect may change their block description at any time.

If no drop post exists, any Architect may make a blog post listing the request of the architect first in the bidding queue and moving the architect first the queue’s name to the end of the bidding queue. Such a blog post is known as a Drop post. If Axemabaro’s request is the default and he has not made a drop post, only he may make a drop post. If the preceding sentence has no effect, any admin may remove it from the rule set.

Change:

is more than 36 hours old

to

is more than 47 hours old

I thought this system could use a touch more automation. Now we can start reacting to a new drop post as soon as the old one is closed.

I put a clause in so that Axemabaro could keep his turn.

As the drop system is now faster, I slowed down its replacement so that everyone has the full two days to react. I used 47 instead of 48 to prevent the time from steadily drifting later.

Replace “If an Architect’s statistics have not been Monitored in the past 24 hours, any Architect may do so by” with “Any Architect may Monitor any Architect’s statistics at any time, by”.

Remove “An Architect’s statistics may not be Monitored if the state of their Site (i.e. Maintained Modules have been added, moved, etc.) has not changed since they were last Monitored.”

Trimming back some Monitoring clauses that seem unnecessary. I can’t see a need for the Unsafe check to immediately follow Monitoring, or for Evacuation to be applied by the owner. The 24 hour limit also seems like a superfluous bit of timing play, and opens up some odd tricks (if a player knows that adding a Block will set their moonbase on fire, they can Monitor their own site five seconds before dropping the Block, in the hope that they’ll be able to place another drop before the 24 hours expires).

The “may not be Monitored [if the Site] has not changed” line also looks unnecessary (if the Site hasn’t changed, Monitoring it again won’t change anything anyway) and will only discourage players from Monitoring each other if they have to comb through GNDT logs and the wiki edit history to see whether a Monitoring action would be legal.

Adminned at 24 May 2019 07:55:38 UTC

Create a rule named “Civil Titles”:

An architect may hold one or more civil titles. Only one architect may hold a given civil title. If there is a tie for a given civil title, the architect later in the bidding queue holds it.

*“City Hall” is a civil title held by the architect with the largest number of contiguous Quarters modules
*“State of the Art” is a civil title held by the architect with the lowest ratio of unmaintained modules to maintained modules, with ties being first broken by the architect with the most modules
*“The Cool House” is a civil title held by the architect with Temperature and Oxygen closest to default values
*“Public Gardens” is a civil title held by the architect with the largest number of contiguous maintained hydroponics modules

Hoping to break the symmetry and give us a few different targets to strive for, as well as a way to interact with each other’s sites.

Other titles would be nice. I thought about “Most of X” titles, but if you place every drop and don’t place over anything, its fairly easy for everyone to end up in lockstep.

I broke ties with being to the rear of the bidding queue to encourage people to make their drops quickly.

When a Architect joins or unidles, their Queue Position is set to the new number of active Architects. If an Architect idles, the Queue of all Architects whose Queue Position was higher than theirs must be decreased by one by the admin who idled that Architect.

The following atomic actions are the only ways to modify the values of Queue Position, excepting the above. The are listed in the format of (Name)[Architect Name]:action:
*Move Up [Name]: Switch the Queue Position values of [Name] and the Architect with the next lowest Queue Position
*Move Down [Name]: Switch the Queue Position values of [Name] and the Architect with the next highest Queue Position

Add a new rule titled “Thermostat” with the following text:

Each Architect has the following statistics tracked in the GNDT, using their abbreviations for names.
* temperature (TEMP) which is tracked in degrees Celsius, defaulting to 20.
* oxygen (OXY) which is tracked as a percentage of oxygen to air, defaulting to 21%.
* food (FOOD) which is tracked as a positive integer of Kilo Calories, defaulting to 60.

Proposal: Two Small Changes

Reached quorum 5 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 21 May 2019 14:55:00 UTC

Add after the sentence “Adding a Block in this way is known as Building.” in the rule “Drops” the text:

When an Architect Builds, they must make a comment to that effect on the Drop post whose Block they Built.

Also, change the clause “they may add the Modules of its Block to their Site,” in the same rule, to:

they may add all of the Modules of its Block to their Site,

The first change is so it’s easier to tell when a Drop post may be closed, and the later, so that blocks can’t be Built hanging off the edges of a site.

Formal Intention to Become a Player

hello, I’d like to be a player. Also someone please update the wiki? I’m confused by how the guys here are already spending resources even though the two rules passed give no hint to anything.

Proposal: Tetromoon

Reached quorum 4 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 20 May 2019 21:52:56 UTC

Enact a new rule, “Drops”:-

A Block is an arrangement of four Modules, in one of the shapes depicted at [[:File:Tetrominoes.png]].

If no Drop post exists, any Architect (or the Supervisor) may make a blog post unambiguously describing the shape and Module arrangement of a single Block of their choice, listing the Modules in the order of the numbers on the shape’s depiction. (eg. “An T-Block of Dock, Corridor, Power, Dock.”) Such a blog post is known as a Drop post.

If a Drop post exists and an Architect has not already done so for that Drop post, they may add the Modules of its Block to their Site, one Module per square, overwriting the previous contents of that square: Modules which are adjacent on the Block must be similarly adjacent on the Site, although the Block may be rotated 90, 180 or 270 degrees. Adding a Block in this way is known as Building.

If all Architects have Built in response to a Drop post, any Architect may close that Drop post with a comment to that effect. Upon doing so, it ceases to be a Drop post.

Proposal: On Rock and Helium

Reached quorum 5 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 20 May 2019 21:53:06 UTC

Enact a new rule, “Sites”:-

Each Architect has their own Site, tracked in the wiki page [[Moon Sites]]. A Site is a 7x7 grid of squares, where each square is either empty (with a Symbol of “.”) or contains a Module. Squares default to being empty.

Modules and their Symbols (in brackets) are:-

* Corridor (+)
* Dock (D)
* Hydroponics (H)
* Life Support (L)
* Power (P)
* Quarters (Q)

Ascension Address: Harvest Moon

The architects’ shuttle weaves its way out from the space elevator apex, passing giant grey tankers as they drift back to Earth. A year on from the first breaking of the lunar soil, and the helium refineries are running at full capacity, red lights glittering across the dark curve of the moon. As the shuttle draws nearer, it weaves between the vast construction ships that hang in the low gravity. With a controlled burst of jets, one giant, L-shaped block of infrastructure is released from the nearest ship and drops slow and straight towards the blank grey plains below.

Reword “Endgame” to:-

A Contractor may Research any Posted Project if they are working at the same Site as the Project’s Location, and if they have not already Researched that Project, by paying the Project’s Components from their own Resources and increasing their Funds by $5B.

The Components of Atlantis Arcology are 1-2 T 1-2 C 1-2 I.
The Components of Orbital Ring of Earth are 2-2 R 3-6 T 1-3 I 2-3 P.
The Components of Timbuktu Irrigation are 2-2 R 2-2 B 1-1 P.
The Components of Jakarta Space Elevator are 2-3 T 2-3 E.
The Components of Trans-Atlantic Hypertube are 1-2 T 1-2 R 1-2 E.
The Components of Ceatan De-extinction are 3-5 B 1-3 P.
The Components of West Egypt Irrigation are 2-2 R 2-2 B 1-1 P.
The Components of L5 City are 1-3T 1-3R 2-4C 2-3B 2-4I.
The Components of Lunar Mines are 3-4 R 2-4 I.

Then resolve the Components of each Project as if they were resource ranges, replacing the Components for each Project in the Endgame rule with the corresponding result.

Saying to “resolve a resource range” in Endgame doesn’t actually do anything: I misread the mechanic as overwriting the originals in the ruleset, but it just generates an output with no instruction as to what to do with it.

Adminned at 14 May 2019 16:45:24 UTC

Set the Dormancy rule to “Inactive”.

Set all Dreamed Projects to Posted.

Enact a new rule, “Endgame”:-

A Contractor or the Great Eccentric may resolve any resource range at any time.

A Contractor may Research any Posted contract if they are working at the same Site as the Project’s Location, and if they have not already Researched that Project, by paying the Project’s cost from their own Resources and increasing their Funds by $5B.

With the game dormant and Zaphod about to idle out as well, maybe it’s time to just wrap this dynasty up quickly: allowing anyone to resolve Projects, and to cash in any Project once for $5B (which is about what they were going for, and neither remaining player is going to let them go for any more than that).

Looks like it’s possible to stall any secret project auction forever by making a new bid on it every day. (The bid auction for Atlantic Arcology has been running for over two weeks now.)

There isn’t much reason to allow players to be making multiple bids at all, here.

To “Contracts”, add:-

The Great Eccentric may, if asked, tell any or all Contractors whether it has been more than 24 hours since the last Bid on a particular Project, and whether more than one Bid has been made on it.

Looks like we’re stuck in an unhelpful situation where frantic counter-bidding on a project is indistinguishable from player inactivity or Imperial inattention. Not being able to tell whether game activity is happening isn’t good for the dynasty.

The Great Eccentric has been wisely cautious about not giving away information they shouldn’t, so far, so this clause explicitly allows them to confirm what’s happening with a Secret Bid, if asked.
