Large GNDT correction

Bateleur stole a slime mold from Hello Kitty of Doom, ate from it, and gave it to Ienpw III.  He did this about 32 hours after Hello Kitty of Doom fell asleep.  I have returned the slime mold and undone the eating.

For future reference: Please note that you only have 24 hours from when a Survivor falls asleep to steal their stuff; you cannot assume you can steal from them just because they slept ‘yesterday’.

In Rule 2.1.1, change the text

A Survivor may Fall Asleep by setting the day on which they last Slept to the current date.

to

A Survivor may Fall Asleep by setting the day on which they last Slept to the current date.  When a Survivor Falls Asleep, he increases his Sanity by the number of times he has been Exhausted since he last Fell Asleep.

A Survivor whose Sanity has not changed in the previous six days and who has two or more Items may increase their Sanity by 2.

Proposal: It’s not stealing - It’s salvaging

Timed out 8 votes to 1. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 02 Sep 2011 07:30:48 UTC

Create a new rule under “Personal Belongings” entitled “Salvaging”

As a Daily Action, any Survivor may attempt to Salvage an Item from the sea by rolling DICE10 in the GNDT. If that Survivor rolls a 1, then they may arbritrarily select an Item which a human is able to carry, and add that to the Items they own, with an Uncertain Flag and a Damp Flag. If a Survivor rolls a 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 or 10, then they fail to gain any items that day. No Survivor may make an attempt to Salvage more than once each day.

Thought this would be an interesting dynamic to slowly increase the number of items aboard the lifeboat. I’m thinking that this would be later amended to further specify which items people receive, and their qualities, but this would make a start.

Proposal: Objections

Timed out 7 votes to 2. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 02 Sep 2011 07:27:21 UTC

Add a new rule, called “Using Items in the Most Creative Ways”:

As a daily action, a Survivor may make an Idea post (a Story post containing “Eureka!” in the Title), describing the functions of one Items (or more combined) and proposing a gamestate effect related to this. The Capitain should then decide if that’s a realistic usage of the Item(s) and if the gamestate effect is fair enough for the other Survivors. If he thinks it is, he should Vote FOR that Idea Post. If an Idea Post has been posted for more than 24 hours, it is considered to be closed.
Any Survivor may Vote on an Idea Post.
A closed Idea Post may have Passed or not.
When closing, and Idea Post Passes exclusively if at that time:
* The Captain voted FOR it, and there are less than a Quorum and a half (rounded down) of AGAINST votes on it.
* The Captain did not cast a Vote on it, and there is a Quorum of FOR Votes on it.
When an Idea Post about some Items Passes, the gamestate effect related to those Items shall be listed in the “Ideas” wiki page, and start applying effectively to the gamestate.

I made easy to make interesting powerful Items since I like creativity.
Changes I want to make in my next proposals:
* Making food supplies limited.
* Allowing unlimited Items transactions.

Proposal: Name Change with Less Baggage

Reached quorum 9 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan.

If a Survivor named “Hello Kitty of Doom” voted FOR this proposal, change their name to “Ely”.

AAA Sleeping Partner Wanted. :P

I stupidly got my fishing rod before going to sleep.
If somebody wants to keep it while I’m sleeping, I’ll hold their Item during their turn of resting.
You’ll find me astern. I’m the one with fluffy ears and pink bow.

Proposal: What Year Is This?

Timed out 8 votes to 1. Enacted by Kevan. The year is 1933.

Adminned at 31 Aug 2011 03:56:47 UTC

Enact a new rule, “Timeline”.

The SS Haniver sank in the year XXXX.

For each EVC on this proposal which included a single number between 1879 and 2011, take the arithmetic mean of those numbers, round it down and replace XXXX with that number in the rule “Timeline”.

If this number is lower than 1940, replace the string “fridge” with “icebox” in the names of all Items.

If this number is lower than 2000, replace the string “Deck of Dvorak cards” with “Deck of cards” in the names of all Items.

In the rule “Hunger and Tiredness”, replace “but is always 2011” with “but is always considered to be 2011 for gameplay purposes”.

May as well narrow down the year in which this dynasty is taking place, for the sake of thematic consistency and sanity checking.

Proposal: Don’t slack off

Self-killed. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 31 Aug 2011 01:22:12 UTC

Add a new rule, called “The Crew”:

Survivors may have Duties. Whenever the Captain wants to give some Survivors a particular Duty, they may make a Orders Post.
A Orders Post is a Story Post with the tag “(Orders)” in the Title, and listing the Duties each of those Survivors shall take.
A survivor may at any time resign all the Duties he has, but they shall then get the “Prisoner” Duty.
Survivors’ Duties are listed in a GNDT column. Multiple Duties of the same Survivor are divided by commas.
The same survivor may not have two instances of the same Duty.
All the Survivors with a specific Duty may be referred with the name of that duty (e.g. Superheroes are all the Survivors with the Superhero Duty)
The possible Duties a Survivor may have and their gamestate effects are:
* Prisoner: a Prisoner may not have other Duties. The Prisoner Duty may not be given by Orders Post. A Survivor loses all his other Duties when becoming Prisoner. If a Prisoner has been so for more than 72 hours in a row (3 days), they may resign the Prisoner Duty. His Influence is always 0.
* Ship boy: loses one point of Sanity every Monday. Gets +1 Influence.

Change the name of the Survivor “Hello Kitty of Doom” to “Ely”.

Duties to come later.
I’ve got some ideas, but I think this proposal is getting too long.
I’m also changing back to my old name. My Battle Name has run its course. I hope this is not a problem.
No idea about what Influence could be.

Proposal: Land’s Not a Word We Have to Shout

Timed out 7 votes to 2. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 31 Aug 2011 01:21:30 UTC

Create a rule called “Sighting Land” with the following text:

Any Survivor who is not Insane may, as a Daily Action, create a post with the title “Land!”. This post must announce that the Survivor in question has sighted land. Subsequently, any other Survivor who is not Insane may comment on that post. If their first comment begins “Land!” then they are agreeing that land has been sighted. If their first comment begins in any other way, they are disputing that the sight in question is land. If after 48 hours from the initial post their are more such comments agreeing than disputing the sighting then all Survivors reach an Island. If after 48 hours this is not the case then instead the Survivor who made the post loses 3 Sanity.

Currently having “reached an Island” doesn’t do anything, but I felt this was already long enough for one proposal. The motivation is primarily that it would be nice to have some potential source of new food besides initial items. Secondarily, from a purely flavour perspective it seems there’s more diversity of new game elements once there’s some land around. Not that we’re ever guaranteed to reach one of course!

Proposal: True bartering

Self-killed. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 29 Aug 2011 15:23:49 UTC

Create a rule called “Bartering” with the following text:

Any Survivor, as a Weekly Action, may create a sticky post with the word “Trade” in the title. The post is to contain an offer for a trade between the person who made the post and the person who’s name appears first in the post. Items with an uncertain flag may not be traded. The comments on this post are for counter-offers. As soon as the trade is completed or refused, it becomes a non-sticky post.

Just thought this may be interesting later on… This version probably needs some major edits.

Proposal: Giant Roast Turkeys

Reached quorum 8 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 29 Aug 2011 10:53:24 UTC

To the rule “Hunger and Tiredness”, add:-

If the day on which a given Survivor last Slept is five or more days before the current date, then any Survivor may Exhaust that Survivor, unless a Survivor has already done so that day. When a Survivor is Exhausted, their Sanity is reduced by 1.

If the day on which a given Survivor last Ate is five or more days before the current date, then any Survivor may Starve that Survivor, unless a Survivor has already done so that day. When a Survivor is Starved, their Sanity is reduced by 1.

Reproposing Anduril’s illegal non-proposal, but making the Sanity alterations explicit actions from players (rather than the automagic “is reduced”) and a bit simpler, bumping it up to five days, and allowing a Tired and Starving Survivor to go mad at 2 Sanity per day.

Who needs food when you can imagine it?

Add a paragraph to the end of the rule “Hunger and Tiredness” with the following text:

If the day on which a Survivor last Ate, or Slept, is more than 3 days ago, for each consecutive day following this that that Survivor does not Eat or Sleep, their Sanity level is reduced by 1, until the day they Eat or Sleep again. A Survivor’s Sanity level may only be reduced by 1 for each day they do not eat or sleep. This rule does not affect other rules involving change of Sanity level.

Would be nice to have a reason to eat and sleep in there early.

Amend the rule “Personal Belongings” from:

Various Items may be possessed by Survivors. An Item has a Name (which may be any combination of letters and spaces), and one or more Flags (* for Uncertain, ^ for Edible, ~ for Damp). The Items a Survivor possesses are tracked by Name in the GNDT field “Items”, with multiple Items belonging to the same Survivor being separated by commas, and each Item having its Flags (if any) marked after its Name. Survivors start with no Items.

The second sentence implies that each Item must have at least one flag (“one or more flags”), but the third sentence implies it doesn’t need one (“if any”) - This amendment removes the requirement for items to have flags.

Proposal: Nobody Touch This Cake

If a rule called “Personal belongings” exists, enact a subrule to “Hunger and Tiredness”, called “Eating and Sleeping”:-

If a Survivor is carrying an Edible Item, they may take a bite from it by setting the day on which they last Ate to the current date.

A Survivor may Fall Asleep by setting the day on which they last Slept to the current date. If a Survivor has Fallen Asleep within the previous 24 hours, any Survivor may, as a daily Action, move one Item from the possession of that Survivor to their own.

If the proposal “Sweets for Children? That’s a fair trade.” failed, add a paragraph to the end of the rule “Personal belongings”:-

As a daily action, a Survivor may transfer one Item from their own Possession to the Possession of any other Survivor.

Man Overboard

If the rule “Personal belongings” doesn’t exist, then this proposal does nothing.

Create a rule called “Bartering” with the following text:

Any Survivor, as a Daily Action, may Trade one of the Items they possess with one Item possessed by another Survivor. When they perform the Trade, they give a Survivor one Item they possess, and then take one item from the Survivor who just received their item. The new possessor of each Item shall be tracked in the GNDT. Any item which is Traded must retain the same Name and Flags (if any) as it had immediately before the Trade took place.

Proposal: Guess What I Found

Timed out 7 votes to 3. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 28 Aug 2011 09:41:07 UTC

If the rule “Personal belongings” exists, reword it to the following. Otherwise, enact a new rule, “Personal belongings”:-

If a Survivor has not done so yet, they may reveal an Item which they rescued from the SS Haniver before it sank - upon doing so, they may arbritrarily select an Item which a human is able to carry, and add that to the Items they own, with an Uncertain Flag.

The Captain may remove an Uncertain Flag from any Item at any time. He may also add an Edible Flag to any Uncertain Item at any time.

Some seemingly outlandish Items may have a more mundane explanation, on closer inspection. If the Captain feels that an Uncertain Item is particularly improbable, he may remove its Uncertain Flag and change its Name, and reduce its holder’s Sanity by 1.

If the rule “Communal Supplies” exists, repeal it.

Tying some suggested mechanics together; personal belongings can include food, and anyone who climbs into the lifeboat claiming to be carrying a Bengal Tiger or a Cessna risks being revealed as delusional.

I’m suggesting a Captain’s judgement call, for now - it might be interesting to allow the highest-Sanity players to judge what’s real and what isn’t, and which bits of it you can eat, but I won’t overload this proposal.

Proposal: A Noisy Noise Annoys An Oyster Most

Times out 7 votes to 2. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 28 Aug 2011 08:58:08 UTC

If the proposal “Don’t be silly.” fails, this proposal does nothing.

Add a new rule, A Noisy Noise Annoys An Oyster Most:

If a Survivor is Insane then, as a Daily Action, they may Annoy one other Survivor. When a Survivor is Annoyed, their Sanity level is reduced by 1.

Amend the rule “Cabin Fever” replacing:

All other Survivors are Sane.

with

Any Survivor with a Sanity level of six or more is Sane

I think that the Insane Survivors should be able to spread a little madness around, and it means being insane isn’t all bad. The amendment to the rule Cabin Fever is to allow more than one Survivor to be Insane at any one time.

Proposal: This sounds an awful lot like communism to me!

If the wikipage “Survivor’s belongings does not exist, create it, otherwise blank it.

Each Survivor may have rescued one item of personal interest from the Haniver. Let’s see where that leads to.

Proposal: A Long Way From Home

Reached quorum 8 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 27 Aug 2011 02:25:54 UTC

Enact a new rule, “Hunger and Tiredness”:-

Each Survivor has a day on which they last Ate, and a day on which they last Slept. These days are tracked in the GNDT (as the number of the day, and the first three letters of the month, eg. “26 Aug” - the year is untracked, but is always 2011).

When a Survivor joins the game or unidles for the first time in the dynasty, the admin processing their arrival must set the day on which that player last Ate and the day on which that player last Slept to the current date.

Upon enactment of this rule, all Survivors “Ate” and “Slept” days shall be set to the 26th of August.

Ascension Address: Abandon Ship

Unless my buzzsaw tinnitus is deceiving me, the sound of the crowd suggests that my Audience Appreciation has hit the level required for victory.

Meta-Proposal: RNG

Hi fellows, I noticed that the random number generator is not really random. Especially when activated with little time in between, it generates equal or similar numbers. Also the numbers at the limits of the range are prevalent. So I think it would be nice to have a program which generates more random numbers. Unfortunately I lack the programming skills to do it, but maybe someone would be willing to do it.

Add a new rule, called “01100111”:

There may be an Entity in the Arena, called “The Bot”, that has IconBot.png as its Icon and is a Large Object.
If there is not an istance of “The Bot” in the Arena, any Gladiator may “Summon the Bot” by rolling DICE7 in the GNDT. If the square on the intersection between the “I” column and the row marked with the number rolled plus one is Empty he shall place the Bot on that Square.
If an Instance of the Bot existed at the most recent Turn Boundary, no Gladiator may take Main Actions until someone has “Moved the Bot”.
If no Gladiator has Moved the Bot during the current Turn, any Gladiator may move the Bot by making it Step once towards the Left. If this is not possible, he shall make it Explode instead of Stepping.
The Bot is considered to be a Gladiator for all the Dynastic rules excluded “Species”, “Icons”, “Weapons”, “Altar of Mayhem” and this rule; with the following exceptions:
* It may Explode: All the Gladiators on squares adjacent to the Bot die and lose one Frag. All the Temporary Entities (except Laser Beams) adjacent to the Destination are removed from the Arena. The Bot Dies.
* Whenever it should Die by other means than Acid Pools, it Explodes instead.
* Whenever it should move to a square containing a Crate or a CUP, that Entitiy is removed from the Arena, the Bot moves to that square and then activates its Lateral Cannons: all the Gladiators on the same column as the Bot Die and lose one Frag.

° Destroyed my Laser Bean Crops;
° Bot isn’t a Gladiator for the purposes of this rule;
° Exploding is part of Moving the Bot;
° Robot does not Enter the Arena.

In the rule “Calls for Judgment”, replace “or if there is no hiatus going on, until four days have passed since they were posted, and if there is a hiatus going on until two days have passed since they were posted” with:-

or until 48 hours have passed since they were posted

CfJs are routinely timing out at four days, at the moment. It seems quite bad that if you want an issue fixed urgently, it’s actually quicker to put it forward as a proposal.

(I think the original rationale for the four day limit was that it gave genuinely contentious issues a chance to be argued back and forth, but that doesn’t seem to happen in practice. Have I forgotten something?)

with

The StickyBomb initially has a fuse length, which is a nonnegative integer and is equal to 9 when the StickyBomb is created. For each AP the Gladiator attached to the StickyBomb spends, the fuse length is decreased by one. The Gladiator attached to the StickyBomb should note a change of the fuselength in a comment to the Sticky Bomb post. Additionally, at each Turn Boundary any Gladiator may decrease the fuse length by one and make a according comment to the StickyBomb post, if no Gladiator has done so since the Turn Boundary occurred. If the fuse length is 0, any Gladiator may cause the StickyBomb to explode, whereupon the Gladiator attached to the StickyBomb dies. The Gladiator triggering that action receives no frag for this action. When a Gladiator attached to a StickyBomb Dies, the Gladiator who fobbed it off on him and the Gladiator who made the StickyBomb’s StickyBomb Post are each awarded a Frag and the StickyBomb ceases to exist; this should be noted in a comment to the StickyBomb Post.

* Whenever it should move to a square containing a Crate or a CUP, that Entitiy is removed from the Arena, and the Bot activates his Lateral Cannons: all the Gladiators on the same column as the Destination Die and get 1 Foul. This replaces the normal process another Gladiator would do in this case.

This would be fun. It gets new ways to get Frags and new ways to get Fouls, since it can’t gain Frags on its own. It’s still very slow, so avoiding its explosions shouldn’t be a problem.
Note that it can’t be killed using weapons.

In Rule 2.2, replace “A Square is considered Blocked if it is not inside the bounds of the Arena, it contains a Gladiator, or it contains anything the rules declare to be a Large Object.” with:-

A Square is considered Blocked if it is not inside the bounds of the Arena, or it contains an Entity.

In the “Traps” rule, replace “edited to contain a Laser Beam (represented by the Icon “IconLaser.png”)” with:-

edited to contain a Laser Beam (an Entity, represented by the Icon “IconLaser.png”)

Ditching the never-used “Large Object” block clause, and replacing it with “Entity” (since “Each Arena Square may contain either one or zero Entities” already means that a Gladiator can’t move into a square that already contains one Entity). Also making Laser Beams into Entities, since they’re currently just non-Entity pictures.

Fweep: Best to be sure

Fweep upheld, or at least not overturned, 1-1. Josh

Adminned at 18 Aug 2011 01:13:18 UTC

When he fweeped me for fragging Blacky’s death, coppro also reverted that frag in the GNDT. It’s of course too early to tell for sure, but it looks like that fweep is going to be overturned, and in fact coppro himself went on to act in a manner consistent with the assumption that my frag was in fact legitimate (although that action is in the process of being overturned via a separate fweep).

These both indicate that coppro was incorrect to revert my frag and thus this was an illegal change to the GNDT.

okay, i’m done

i think i’ll teak a break for a while, i’m not really into the game currently. please idle me

Fweep put me in the wrong place

Fweep overturned, 1-6. Josh

Adminned at 18 Aug 2011 01:12:19 UTC

Kevan, in attempting to restore my purportedly-illegal actions, put me back at my starting position. He put me back at G9, which is where I would have been if none of my follows through were legal. The first three were certainly legal, however, since they would have cost 1 AP each, and thus I would in reality be at B2. Thus, either way, Kevan’s adjustment was illegal.

Fweep - Don’t flirt if you can’t follow through

Fweep overturned, 0-3. Unfortunately - and please correct me if I’m wrong on this - I can’t see any evidence in the GNDT to suggest that Prince Anduril actually gave coppro the foul that the fweep required him to. As there was no “awarded foul” this can’t be transferred. This leaves me in an odd spot - I can either assume that the foul was passively awarded in the gamestate and that the GNDT simply doesn’t reflect this, and proceed on that basis, although that requires an intent on PA’s part that cannot be proven to exist and which leaves me liable to a follow-up fweep; or I can do the most I can without incurring any liability myself, which is to observe that PA’s actions have resulted in illegal gamestate that should probably be resolved through other means, and encourage the use of a CfJ to regulate the awarding of any due fouls. I’ve gone with the latter. -Josh

Adminned at 17 Aug 2011 14:46:41 UTC

Since someone needs to propose this and the Slip and Slide Suicide CfJ here looks like it might fail, I propose a new Fweep simply requesting that coppro be given a foul, without reference to his actions being reverted.

Fweep: Counting the Cost

Upheld 5-2. Josh

Adminned at 17 Aug 2011 13:12:21 UTC

Coppro scammed the Follow-Through action, realising that its first clause didn’t prevent it being used at any time. Which is perhaps fair enough. However, he failed to pay any action points to use these Follow-Through actions. “Main Actions are actions that have a Cost in AP (which must be spent in order to perform the Main Action), which is 1 unless otherwise stated.” - this means that all of his Follow-Through actions were illegal, as he did not pay their costs. As a result, he did not claim a StickyBomb, did not earn a Frag for his own death, did not move from the position where he entered the Arena, and there’s still some Blood lying around.

(This does mean that Follow-Through is a useless action - pay 1AP to reduce the cost of your next action by 1AP! - but that’s exactly how it’s written. It is not a 0AP action.)

Fweep: Laser Susan

Upheld 6-1. Josh

Adminned at 17 Aug 2011 07:17:50 UTC

Prince Anduril shoved me into a square containing a Laser Beam (which is legal, since due to an oversight in wording, Laser Beams are not Entities, they’re just icons). He then killed me and claimed a Frag for my death. So far as I can see, there is nothing in the ruleset which says that being pushed into a square containing a Laser Beam icon results in a death.

Call for Judgment: Slip and Slide Suicide

Reaches antiquorum. Josh

Adminned at 17 Aug 2011 07:17:22 UTC

Coppro took a selective reading of the rule on Following Through. There were two ambiguities that he exploited:

* While the rule specifies that Following Through may be performed under certain circumstances, it doesn’t forbid performing it without those circumstances existing; and
* “provided that it continues in the same direction of travel as the initial shove” refers to the very first shove performed in the game, rather than the shove that resulted in the follow through taking place.

The latter only appears to be justifiable in the context of the former - if following through requires a shove then it is clear that that is the shove referred to by the term “initial”, and if it does not then it can be reasonably asserted that “initial” refers to the first shove ever performed. I find the first to be dubious, however, on the grounds that the ruleset never explicitly states that main actions can be performed *at all*, so the redacto ad absurdum approach still prevents Coppro from taking those actions.

Therefore, revert Coppro’s actions as undertaken on August 15th and add one Foul to his total.

Proposal: Two small changes

Self-killed. Josh

Adminned at 17 Aug 2011 05:35:13 UTC

Add the following to the end of the rule entitled Death and Scorekeeping:

A Gladiator may not take an action that would directly cause or result in their own Death.

Amend the third paragraph of the same rule to read as follows:

A Gladiator gains 1 Frag when a rule says they are Awarded a Frag. A Gladiator can never receive a Frag for, or as a direct result of, their own Death, or more than one Frag for the same Death.

Proposal: Shoving Leopard

Timed out and passed, 5-1. Josh

Adminned at 17 Aug 2011 05:34:55 UTC

In the rule “Turn-Based Actions”, replace “If a Gladiator has been shoved since the last Turn Boundary, and has not died or taken a Main Action since the shove took place, then he may Follow Through as his next Main Action.” with:-

A Gladiator may not take this Main Action unless they have been Shoved since the last Turn Boundary, and have not died or taken a Main Action since the Shove took place.

And replace “the same direction of travel as the initial shove” with “the direction in which they were most recently Shoved”.

Fixing the potential loophole that Coppro just exploited (that you can always choose to Follow-Through as a Main Action, it just happens to list a special case in which it’s also legal; and that “initial shove” means “first shove of the game”). I’m not passing any judgement on the legality of his actions, just moving to clear up the bad wording as quickly as possible.

Proposal: Suspicious Package

Reached quorum 6 votes to 2. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 15 Aug 2011 16:53:29 UTC

The historical gamestate shall be altered such that this wiki update of creating a Crate performed by Blacky was a legal game action.

Per the previous proposal - Blacky spawned an illegal crate a while ago, and used it to create an Acid Pool. A few days later I pushed someone into it, without having combed through the GNDT history to make sure it was a legal Pool, earning Blacky and myself a Frag. Clearly I’d have spent my AP doing something else if I’d realised that the Pool wasn’t there (and would have played slightly differently since then if I knew I had less of a lead). And other players would have done different things as a result of that death not occurring - Kitty wouldn’t have respawned the next day to pick up their own Acid Barrel, for a start.

Allowing the gained Frags to stay and simply declaring the Crate to be legal seems like the cleanest and fairest solution; anything else seems like a glum precedent to set (giving a big incentive to make small, illegal gamestate updates, then call them out weeks later - even during a DoV - when it can be shown to invalidate someone’s critical action). I think we probably just need an “any game action more than a week old is considered legal” blanket (possibly with an “intentionally invalidating the gamestate is frowned upon” fair play rule to rule out any blatant “lol, actually I gave you some extra points illegally, six days ago” DoV kills), but won’t bundle that up with this fix.

Proposal: I never knowingly look gift horses in their mouths

Timed out 1 vote to 4. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 15 Aug 2011 16:53:12 UTC

As per the discussion in Fweep: Crate Accompli, we’re working off illegal gamestate due to an unreverted illegal edit by Blacky a few weeks ago. Keven has backtracked the effects and determined that he and Blacky are both 1 frag better off than they would be had the crate’s effects not been in play.

Therefore, reduce Kevan and Blacky’s Frags by 1 apiece and treat the resultant gamestate to be legal as of the time of the enactment of this proposal.

Proposal: The Crate Escape (amended)

Can’t enact with 6 votes against and 2 for, without a change of vote. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 15 Aug 2011 01:33:56 UTC

If the proposal “The Crate Escape” fails, then this proposal does nothing.

Replace

“If there are fewer than two Crates in the Arena, any Gladiator may - as a daily Action - activate the Crate Dropper by selecting a random Arena Square.”

with:

If there are fewer than two Crates in the Arena, any Gladiator may activate the crate dropper by selecting a random Arena Square. This selection constitutes a Daily Action, regardless of whether a crate has yet been placed in the Arena.

I still think the amendment proposed in “The Crate Escape” is a bit ambiguous. Has the crate dropper been activated if no crate has been dropped?

Proposal: The Crate Escape

Reached quorum 7 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 14 Aug 2011 05:46:57 UTC

In the rule “Crates”, replace “If the selected Arena Square is empty, then the Gladiator may place a Crate in that Arena Square by updating the Arena wiki page.” with:-

If the selected Arena Square is empty, then the Gladiator may place a Crate in that Arena Square within ten minutes of performing the action, by updating the Arena wiki page.

Also replace “create a Crate” with “activate the Crate Dropper”.

Fixing a problem pointed out in comments to the Crate Accompli Fweep (that you can hold back on actually placing the Crate for as long as you like), and renaming the “create a Crate” action to avoid future confusion about whether “creating a Crate” is the same as “placing a Crate in an Arena Square”.

Fweep: Crate Accompli

Closed by Josh. Upheld 5-1.

Adminned at 15 Aug 2011 13:11:30 UTC

Prince Anduril rolled to create a Crate, but rolled two nines, and the corner square already had an Acid Pool in it. In response, he created another crate (“A crate is not created as the selected arena square is not empty - I therefore make another attempt to create a Crate” which he also rolled an occupied square for), and then another until he got an empty square. But the Crates rule says:-

If there are fewer than two Crates in the Arena, any Gladiator may - as a daily Action - create a Crate by selecting a random Arena Square. If the selected Arena Square is empty, then the Gladiator may place a Crate in that Arena Square by updating the Arena wiki page.

Since “creating a crate” is a daily Action which only places the crate in the Arena if the target square is empty, it is clearly illegal for Prince to “make another attempt to create a Crate”, in the same day.

Call for Judgment: the Cup is a bloody mess!

Timed out 3 votes to 4. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 15 Aug 2011 16:55:08 UTC

There is an issue when a Gladiotor holding the cup dies, as in this case the rules “Blood!” and “Vicory and Glory” contradict each other. The rule “Blood!” states:

Immediately after a Gladiator Dies, if the square where this death occurred is Empty, a Blood Pool is created there.

A contradicting statement is found in the rule “Victory and Glory”:

When the Gladiator holding The ClingBoom Cup Dies, an Instance of CUP is placed on the square where that death occurred, if it is Empty.

Is is not clear which rule takes precedence.

Therefore, in the rule “Victory and Glory” change the sentence:

When the Gladiator holding The ClingBoom Cup Dies, an Instance of CUP is placed on the square where that death occurred, if it is Empty.

to

When the Gladiator holding The ClingBoom Cup Dies, an Instance of CUP is placed on the square where that death occurred, if it is Empty or contains a Blood Pool. If a Blood pool exists in this square, remove it before placing the CUP.

If at least quorum of the EVC on this CfJ contain the string “Agora rulez!” Blacky may declare Victory.

In the same rule, change the following:

to read as follows:

When a Gladiator is de-idled, if they went idle in the same dynasty, their personal gamestate retains the last legally endowed values it had, if they are still valid.

With 4-day turns, I can keep idling and unidling for the rest of the dynasty to evade that foul / frag penalty in perpetuity. Fun for me, annoying for everyone else.

Last week I activated a Propellor Panel and moved Prince Anduril to an empty square. Josh thought Anduril should have died as a result, so killed him, awarded a few Frags for the death (including one to himself) and gave me a Foul for it. Josh idled himself out shortly afterwards. His Fweep was rejected and the gained Frags removed, but since Josh was idle during this time, he kept his Frag for Anduril’s death and wasn’t assigned the Foul for an incorrect Fweep. Call for Judgment: Twixt Cup and Lip

Timed out 0 votes to 5. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 11 Aug 2011 05:23:08 UTC

In the comments on the Too Many Cups Fweep, Coppro argues that “Only one Gladiator may hold The ClingBoom Cup at any time” means “For each instance of The ClingBoom Cup, only one Gladiator may hold it” rather than “Only one Gladiator may hold an instance of The ClingBoom Cup at any time”. Hello Kitty described this interpretation as “ludicrous” and said they’d CfJ it, but they haven’t yet, so here’s a CfJ.

If this CfJ is enacted, then in the Rule “Victory and Glory”, replace “Only one Gladiator may hold The ClingBoom Cup at any time, and only one instance of CUP may be present in the Arena at any time.” with:-

If more than one instance of The ClingBoom Cup is held by a Gladiator, and one of those instances was not held by a Gladiator immediately prior to this circumstance arising, that instance is removed from play. If more than one instance of the CUP exists in the Arena, all instances of the CUP are removed from the Arena.

Note that this doesn’t address the issue of whether Coppro was permitted to unidle (if only one Cup can exist in the game, then unidling whilst holding a Cup would put the game into an illegal state), which possibly needs a separate CfJ.

Proposal: Fair is Foul and Foul is Fair

Reached quorum 6 votes to 2. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 07 Aug 2011 05:15:36 UTC

In the rule “Fouls”, replace “If, after 24 hours, a quorum of Gladiators have voted AGAINST the Foul Post, then the awarded Foul is transferred from the Gladiator who was initially accused to the Gladiator who made the Foul Post.” with:-

A Foul Post is a Votable Matter. If a Foul Post is more than 48 hours old, any admin may mark it as closed, at which point it is no longer a Votable Matter - if more Gladiators voted AGAINST the Foul Post than FOR it at this point, then the awarded Foul is transferred from the Gladiator who was initially accused to the Gladiator who made the Foul Post.

Change the definition of “Votable Matter” in the Keywords rule from “The word “Votable Matter”, means a Proposal, a CFJ or a DoV.” to:-

A post which Gladiators may cast Votes on, such as a Proposal, a Call for Judgment or a Declaration of Victory.

When this proposal enacts, any comment on a Foul Post which contains a voting icon shall be considered to have been cast as a Vote on that Foul Post, by the Gladiator who posted the comment.

It’s not clear whether Fweep posts are timing out with no effect because most players silently agree that they’re legal, because players aren’t sure, because they don’t have time to vote, or because they don’t really care which of two rival players is disadvantaged with a Foul. This bumps their voting duration up to 48 hours, and operates on a majority of expressed opinion rather than requiring a full quorum to disagree.

This will open up all previous Foul Posts for reassessment, so players may wish to go back and vote on the expired ones.

(It also amends the definition of “Votable Matter” so that we can actually say “this new type of post is a Votable Matter” without contradicting the Appendix.)

Call for Judgment: Spring-Heeled Jack

Eventually reached quorum 5-1, enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 10 Aug 2011 02:41:54 UTC

Josh contends that the Spring-Mounted Propeller Panel Trap effect of…

If that Square is Empty or contains a Target, then the Victim is moved to it. If the Square contains a Gladiator other than the Victim, then both that Gladiator and the Victim die. Otherwise, the Victim dies.

...means that if the Square is Empty, then the Victim is both moved to it, and dies. I contend that the “If… If… Otherwise…” means that the “otherwise” clause only triggers if neither of the first two conditions are met. (Reading it as “If the Square is Empty, then: if the Square contains a Gladiator do X, otherwise do Y” doesn’t make a lot of sense, because an Empty Square could never contain a Gladiator.)

If this CfJ passes, replace “Otherwise” with “If neither of these conditions are met” in the effect of the Spring-Mounted Propeller Panel, for the sake of clarity. If Prince Anduril is Resting, set him to “Fighting” and return him to Arena Square C1. Remove the Frags that Josh erroneously assigned for his death. If Kevan gained a Foul as a result of the Fweep post from Josh regarding Prince Anduril and the Propeller Panel, transfer that Frag to Josh.

Josh raised a Fweep over this, but only thought it “interesting” that I disagreed in comments, so I assume he stands by its legality.

Fweep: Concequences

Fails after 48 hours, with no effect (Josh is idle and cannot have a Foul transferred to him).

Adminned at 09 Aug 2011 10:15:12 UTC

This afternoon, Kevan pushed PrinceAnduril onto a propeller panel. He moved PA to the randomly chosen tile - C1 - but failed to then kill him (from the rules: “If the Square contains a Gladiator other than the Victim, then both that Gladiator and the Victim die. Otherwise, the Victim dies.”) Moving him without then killing him constitutes a foul (as Kevan failed to fully “apply the effect of the Trap”).

Fweep: Too Many Cups

This Fweep is now closed; it failed to reach “more Gladiators voted AGAINST the Foul Post than FOR it”, so the Foul stands.

Adminned at 07 Aug 2011 05:18:58 UTC

Coppro unidled and gave himself the Clingboom Cup, which he was carrying when he idled four days ago. As I understand it, this gamestate update is illegal, since the Cup Weapon disappeared from play when he idled - “When a Gladiator becomes idle, he also becomes Resting.” and “When a Gladiator stops Fighting and begins Resting, they lose any Weapons they were carrying.”, so when Coppro elected to idle himself out, he became Resting and the Cup was removed from his possession.

(His action also contradicts “Only one Gladiator may hold The ClingBoom Cup at any time” in Rule 2.14.)

The Gladiator attached to a StickyBomb (known as the “Fobber”) may fob it off on another Gladiator in an adjacent Square who has been attached to that StickyBomb fewer times than the Fobber (or, if no Fighting Gladiators have been attached to that StickyBomb fewer times than the Fobber, any Gladiator in an adjacent Square)

Poor Anduril has been stuck with the bomb a couple of times now, I’d say more by chance than misjudgment. This lets the Bomb go around again and again until someone gets killed with it, or can’t get close enough to pass it on.

After “Each Arena Square may contain either one or zero Entities.” in the rule “The Arena”, add:-

Entities are either Permanent or Temporary, defaulting to Temporary.

And in the rule “Altar of Mayhem”, replace “There is an Entity, the StickyBomb Dispenser” with:-

There is a Permanent Entity, the StickyBomb Dispenser

Reword the effect of the Vertical Particle Beam from “The Victim dies.” to:-

If there are no Permanent Entities in the same column as the Victim, then all Entities in that column are removed (causing any Gladiators removed in this way to Die) and all squares in that column are edited to contain a Laser Beam (represented by the Icon “IconLaser.png”). If a Laser Beam has been in the Arena for an entire Turn, then any Gladiator may remove all Laser Beams from the Arena.

Proposal: Beat the Buzzer

Vetoed - coppro

Add a new subrule to the rule “Death and Scorekeeping”.  Call it “End of Regulation” and give it the following text:

At noon on August 18th, and on each Turn Boundary thereafter, if one Gladiator has at least three more Frags than each other Gladiator, that Gladiator achieves victory.

Due to delays in creating the victory condition, 2 turns have been added to the game.

In the rule “Death and Scorekeeping”, replace “The first Gladiator to reach an Audience Appreciation of 20 achieves victory.” with:-

The first Gladiator to reach an Audience Appreciation of 10 achieves victory.

It has taken almost a month for someone to get five Frags. Maybe it’s time for the inevitable target-lowering.

Proposal: This Ivan is Insufficiently Crazy

Adminned at 02 Aug 2011 02:20:21 UTC

Change the effect of the Crazy Ivan from “The Victim’s AP is set to zero.” to:-

The Victim’s AP is set to zero, and they lose any Weapons they are carrying. The Triggerer may then move the Victim into a square adjacent to the Victim’s current location, provided that this square is Empty, or contains a Target or an Acid Pool.

Reached quorum 5 votes to 0, with 1 unresolved DEF. Enacted by Kevan.
