Proposal: They have a mind of their own.

Reached a quorum 9-1.—Yoda

Adminned at 02 Jun 2011 19:59:09 UTC

Replace “Each type of Seed must have at least a Name, Initial, Sun Cost, and Shade Requirement.” in the rule “Planting” with “Each type of Seed must have at least a Name, Initial, Sun Cost, Shade Requirement, Offence, and Defense.”

Set the Offence of Cabbage and Peas to 2, Potato and Corn to 1, Watermelons to 3, and the rest to 0.

Add a new dynastic rule titled “Revenge of the Crops” with the following text:

A Farmer may, as a daily action, Mobilize their Plot by causing each Crop with an Offence greater than 0 to Attack.  When a Crop Attacks, the Farmer performing the action may pick any Zombie on their Plot that is on the same row as the Crop and reduce their Health by DICEX (where X is the Crop’s Offence).

Double each Zombie’s and Species’ Health.

Again, the doubling of the health is to make up for the increased ability to do damage.

Proposal: Ownership of Zombies

Reached a quorum 8-1.—Yoda
I tried to correlate GNDT records to zombies, but if I messed up giving zombies the appropriate owner, please correct it.

Adminned at 02 Jun 2011 19:53:40 UTC

Replace the text of the rule titled “The Dead” with the following:

A Zombie is characterized by:
* a Name, that shall be the name of an Idle Farmer, and shall be different from any other existing Zombie’s Name.’
* an Owner, which must be the name of an active Farmer
* a Species, that must be one of those listed in the rule “Species”.
* an Attack value, defined by its Species.
* a Health, which begins at the starting value specified by its Species.
* a Location, which must be a Square in a Plot. It shall be written as Abc(C|R), where Abc is the name of the Farmer owning the Plot where the zombie is located, and (C|R) indicates the Square.
* a Cost, which must be a positive amount of Juice.

The Location of each Zombie shall be listed together with its Health, Species, and Owner in the Garden Patch page, immediately below the Plot where they are located.

A Farmer may Create a Zombie by spending its Species’ Cost in Juice, selecting a legal Name for it, setting the Owner to themselves, and placing it at a Square with shade 0 of their choice on any Plot.  If, at any time, a Zombie’s Owner contains an illegal value (such as when a Farmer idles), that Zombie immediately has their Owner set to the Landlord.

As a daily action, any Farmer may cause all Zombies for which they are the Owner to Shamble. When a Zombie Shambles, the Behaviour specified by its Species is carried out once. The Farmer who carries out this action may select the order in which Zombies Shamble.

The Powers of a Zombie are special actions that a Shambling Zombie may perform under certain conditions.

The health of a Zombie is a integer. If a Zombie has an Health of 0 or less, that Zombie is destroyed (i.e. cease to exist, also known as die). Behaviour and Powers may include one of these actions the Shambling Zombies may perform:
Move: the Zombie changes its Location to a Square that is adjacent to the previous Location.
Teleport: the Zombie changes its location.
Attack an object (shed, zombie or Crop): If the result of DICEX (where X is the Zombie’s Attack) is major or equal than the object’s Defence (or 1 if the object has no Defense), the Object will get destroyed. The Zombie shall then suffer the object’s Counterback Effect, if any.
Explode: The Zombie will destroy anything located in the same square than its own, and then die.

Double the attack of each Zombie’s and Species’ Attack value.  Set the Owner of each Zombie to the name of the Farmer who Created them.

This is to set up for the points system.  Also, I doubled the zombie’s attack to make up for the DICEX instead of 2DICEX.

Proposal: More Zombies

If more than half of the EVC’s contain the word “Confusion”, Add the following subrule to “Species”:

Confused zombie:

Attack: 0
Health: 1
Cost: 2
Behavior: Selects a random adjacent square.  If it does not contain a plant or a zombie, moves there.  If this move places Confused Zombie next to another Confused zombie, the former (i.e., the Confused Zombie that just moved) explodes.

If more than half of the EVC’s contain the word “Handiness”, Add the following subrule to “Species”:

Zombie Hand:

Attack: 0
Health: 1
Cost: 1
Behavior: If the square to Zombie’s Hand is empty or contains a house, Zombie Hand moves one square to the left.  Otherwise, Zombie Hand is destroyed.

If more than half of the EVC’s contain the word “Loneliness”, Add the following subrule to “Species”:

Outcast Zombie:

Attack: 2
Health: 2
Cost: 5
Behaviour: Moves to a random adjacent square. Attacks anything located there.  Then, all zombies adjacent to Outcast Zombie attack Outcast Zombie.

If Outcast Zombie survives being attacked by adjacent zombies, he breaks down and cries.

Proposal: Clarity in the kaos lines.

In rule Species, change the Behaviour of Zoombie to:

It moves down until it meets something, or until it has moved three squares down. Then, it attacks a anything at the location where it stopped, in any order.

In the rule “The Dead”, add to the definition of “attack” (second last sentence):

A zombie may not attack itself. When a Zombie is attacked, its Health shall be used in stead of Defence.

I’ve got this zombie in my garden, and no idea about how it should move. I guess it’s my fault…

Call for Judgment: Legalize grass.

Fails at 1-10. -Purplebeard

Adminned at 01 Jun 2011 02:18:17 UTC

coppro harvested three times this week.
Now, I can’t believe this not being intentional, he surely knew what e was doing.
So, in my opinion a Nomic is a game about bending the concept of legality to suit your needs (and give you victory), not to break rules trying not to get caught. English has a word for that: cheating.
And I don’t want that the punishment for cheating to be “let’s revert this and don’t speak about it any more”.
So, create a Dynastic Rule called “Desertification”:

Whenever the Farmer named coppro harvests, e shall gain 100 less Sun than what described in rule Resources. E may then repel this rule.

Proposal: Please keep off the grass.

Counterback effect: any Zombie that attacks this Crop is teleported to a random Square in the last column of a random Plot, after which this Crop is destroyed.

Add the following subrules to “Species”:

“Ghoul”

* Attack: 2
* Health: 2
* Cost: 10
* Behaviour: Moves a square to the left, then attacks whatever’s there.

“Bombie”

* Attack: 0
* Health: 1
* Cost: 15
* Behaviour: Moves at most three squares to the left, stopping if it meets any object or zombie, and then explodes, regardless of where it stopped.

Call for Judgment: Out-Of-Season Harvesting

Timed out 7-7.—Yoda

Adminned at 03 Jun 2011 16:41:28 UTC

It seems that coppro harvested twice last week (as well as a third time, which has been reverted by Ely), on both the 23th and the 28th. I’d revert it directly, but they’ve spent most of the Sun they gained from the second harvest, hence this CfJ.

coppro gained 160 from the illegal harvest, and spent 150 on a shed and two sunflowers.

Therefore, if this Call for Judgment passes, decrease the Sun of the Farmer named coppro by 10 and remove a shed and two Sunflowers from their Plot. If no shed is on their plot, remove three sunflowers from it instead. If coppro had less than 10 Sun at the time this is enacted (and before its effects take place), remove the crop with the lowest Sun Cost from their plot.

Any Farmer may cause all Zombies to Shamble, but only if no Farmer has done so in the last 24 hours. When a Zombie Shambles, the Behaviour specified by its Species is carried out once. The Farmer who carries out this action may select the order in which Zombies Shamble.

Add:

Add a subrule to Constructions called “Unfueled Jeep”

A farmer may spend 100 wood to create an unfueled jeep in one of their partitions.

Add a subrule to Constructions called “Fueled Jeep”

A farmer who owns an unfueled jeep may spend 25 juice to change it into a fueled jeep. If a farmer’s house is destroyed while they own a fueled jeep, then when commanded to roll DICEX, DICEY and DICEZ in the rule “The House”, each dice is instead rolled 3 times and the highest rolled result for each set of 3 is used. (i.e. the highest of the 3 DICEX is used intead of 1 DICEX, etc.) The fueled jeep is then moved to a partition in the farmer’s new wine cellar and becomes an unfueled jeep.

As a weekly action, the LandLord may Summon a Wave of Zombies. To do so, they shall make a Story post containing the word BWAAAAAARGH (any number of A’s) in the title, stating what Species of Zombies shall come, and how many per Plot, plus some flavour because everyone likes Zombies’ flavour. Then, they shall create for free that number of Zombies of that Species in each Plot, in the squares with the least Shade. If possible, the Landlord should create the Zombies in the same square for all the plots (e.g. Jonny(5|5), Mario(5|5), LucyInTheSkyWithDynamite(5|5) etc).
The Landlord May not Summon anything before 04/06/11.

Proposal: A Win Condition

Reaches sufficient AGAINST to fail without a vote changing; 3-8. -coppro

Adminned at 28 May 2011 13:21:46 UTC

If the Proposal titled “Something to fight for” failed, this Proposal does nothing.

Replace the subrule of “Farmland” titled “The House” with the following:

Each Farmer has an amount of defeats tracked in the GNDT.  This is initially set to 0, but farmers who join the game or de-idle after [time this proposal passed + 14 days] have their defeats set to 1 greater than the maximum number of defeats of all current players.

Every Plot contains a house. For the purposes of movement, a house is considered to be a square to the left of, and adjacent to all squares in the first column of its plot.

If a zombie moves into a house at any time and its Plot is owned by a farmer, that Plot is marked as destroyed on the Garden Patch, and is no longer owned by any farmer although it continues to be tracked. The former owner then receives a new Plot that is immediately below a random plot, and then DICEX, DICEY and DiceZ are rolled, where X, Y and Z are the farmer’s Sun, Wood and Juice respectively. Their resources are then set to the results of the respective dice rolls.  Their Defeats are then incremented by 1.

The zombie that moved into the house is then destroyed.

If one player has fewer defeats than all other players for a period of 24 hours, that player may declare victory.

If this proposal passes, the admin enacting this proposal must replace [time this proposal passed + 14 days] with the time this proposal passed + 14 days (on the ruleset, not in this post).

The 24 hour rule is in part because I worry some sort of rule relating to shambling might allow a user to declare victory while a shamble is in progress, immediately before their house is captured but after an enemy’s house is captured.
The extra defeat for newcomers is because I suspect there is some way to game this rule by de-idling with good timing (e.g., if some disaster was about to cause every player to be defeated simultaneously).

Proposal: From the bottom to the top.

Replace all the text in Appendix Rule “Prioritisation” to:

If two parts of the Ruleset contradict each other, precedence shall be construed in the following order:
  1. The Appendix has precedence over any Rule;
  2. A Dynastic Rule has precedence over a Core Rule, unless that Core Rule explicitly says it can’t be overruled by a Dynastic Rule;
  3. If both contradicting parts are a Core Rule, or if both of them are a Dynastic Rule, the part with more limited scope applies. (e.g. if the rules “Players may Kick each other” and “Players may not kick each other on Tuesdays” exist, and it is Tuesday, players may not Kick each other.)
  4. If two parts with the same scope contradict each other, the negative rule applies. (e.g. with “Players may Punch a Spaceman on Friday” and “Player may not Punch Spacemen on Friday”, then Players may not Punch Spacemen on Friday.)

Add to the Rule “Calls for Judgement”:

This Rule may not be overruled by Dynastic Rules.

In rule “Farmland”, change the word “leftmost” to “rightmost”.

Change rule “The dead” to:

A Zombie is characterized by:

* a Name, that shall be the name of an Idle Player, and shall be different from any other existing Zombie’s Name.
* a Species, that must be one of those listed in the rule “Species”.
* an Attack value, defined by its Species.

* a Cost, which must be a positive amount of Juice.

The Location of each Zombie shall be listed together with its Health and Species in the Garden Patch page, immediately below the Plot where they are located.

A Farmer may Create a Zombie by spending its Species’ Cost in Juice, selecting a legal Name for it and placing it at a Square with shade 0 of their choice on any Plot.

Any Farmer may cause all Zombies to Shamble, but only if no Farmer has done so in the last 24 hours. When a Zombie Shambles, the Behaviour specified by its Species is carried out once. The Farmer who carries out this action may select the order in which Zombies Shamble.

The Powers of a Zombie are special actions that a Shambling Zombie may perform under certain conditions.

In the subrules to rule Species, set the Cost for Wanderer to 3 Juice, for Zoombie to 5 and for Herbivore to 7; change “Starting Attack” to “Attack” and “Life” to “Health”.

Add this Powers to the first two Species:

Whenever it kills or destroy anything, it moves a square to the left.

Repeal rule “Floral Defences”.

If the proposal “When the Rotten come” passes, add the following text to the end of the rule “The Dead”:

The health of a Zombie is a integer. If a Zombie has an Health of 0 or less, that Zombie is destroyed (i.e. cease to exist, also known as die).
Behaviour and Powers may include one of these actions the Shambling Zombies may perform:
Move: the Zombie changes its Location to a Square that is adjacent to the previous Location.
Teleport: the Zombie changes its location.
Attack an object (shed, zombie or Crop): If the result of 2DICE@ (where @ is the Zombie’s Attack) is major or equal than the object’s Defence, the Object will get destroyed. The Zombie shall then suffer the object’s Counterback Effect, if any.
Explode: The Zombie will destroy anything located in the same square than its own, and then die.

The last part just reenacts the effects of the “When the Rotten come” proposal should it pass.

Proposal: Something to fight for

If the word “leftmost” exists in the rule “Farmland”, change it to “rightmost”.

Create a subrule of “Farmland” called “The House”

Every Plot contains a house. For the purposes of movement, a house is considered to be a square to the left of, and adjacent to all squares in the first column of its plot.

If a zombie moves into a house at any time and its Plot is owned by a farmer, that Plot is marked as destroyed on the Garden Patch, and is no longer owned by any farmer although it continues to be tracked. Their resources are then set to the results of the respective dice rolls.

The zombie that moved into the house is then destroyed.

In the rule “A bit of Renovating”, replace “Every farmer has a wine cellar” with “Every house has a wine cellar”.

Times out 10-0 and is enacted. -coppro

Protosal: One step back, one sideways. Jump.

Add to the Core Rule “Ruleset and Gamestate”:
If two parts of the Rulesset contradict each other, precedence shall be construed in the following order:

  1. The Appendix has precedence over any Rule;
  2. A Dynastic Rule has precedence over a Core Rule, unless that Core Rule explicitly says it can’t be overruled by a Dynastic Rule;
  3. If both contradicting parts are a Core Rule, or if both of them are a Dynastic Rule, the part with more limited scope applies. (e.g. if the rules “Players can Fight each other” and “Players cannot Fight each other on Tuesdays” exist, and it is Tuesday, players cannot fight each other.)
  4. If two parts with the same scope contradict each other, the negative rule applies. (e.g. with “Players can Fight each other on Tuesdays” and “Player cannot fight each other on Tuesdays”, Players cannont fight each other on Tuesdays.)

I found this one at the Ruleset Draft. Credit to Chronos Phaenon.
I don’t know why and when it has been repealed (or if it has been part of the ruleset at all), and I don’t want to mess with the Core Rules, so I’d ask what do you all think. (additionally, I don’t have free slots at the moment.)
EDIT: changed Glossary to Appendix.

- Roll 1DICEY X times, where Y is the Defense of the Plant and X is the Life of the Zombie.
- If any of those rolls are less than or equal to the attack value of the zombie, the plant is destroyed.
- Otherwise, the zombie is destroyed.

Tracking health of plants and zombies will be a hassle.  Let’s skip it :) Of course, adding zombies which change into other zombies instead of being destroyed when defeated…

Proposal: Residential Evil

Timed out and failed, 3-7. Josh

Adminned at 25 May 2011 01:49:54 UTC

In Rule “The Dead” Change:

A Farmer may Create a Zombie by spending its Species’ Cost in Juice, selecting a legal Name for it and placing it at an empty Square of their choice on any Plot.

To:

A Farmer may Create a Zombie by spending its Species’ Cost in Juice, selecting a legal Name for it and placing it at a Square with at least Shade 5 of their choice on any Plot.

Add at the bottom of that rule:

By Moving, a zombie has its location changed to a square that is adjacent to its location. When a Zombie shall move to a non-existing square, or to a square that can not contain Zombies, the Zombie does not change its location on that move.
By Teleporting, a Zombie has its location changed. When a Zombie shall move to a non-existing square, or to a square that can not contain Zombies, that Zombie ceases to exist.
By Exploding, a Zombie Attacks everything located on the square it is located in, and on every square adjacent to it, and then ceases to exist.

If more than half of the EVC’s to this Proposal include the word “Paradox” add to the bottom of that rule:

Whenever as the result of a Farmer unidling the Name of a Zombie would become illegal, that Zombie Explodes.

Change the Behaviour of Zoombie to:

If it’s located on a otherwise empty square (i.e. a square that contains only this Zoombie), moves a square downward, with a limit of three squares per Shamble. As soon as it shares a square with something else, the Zoombie attacks it, and then stops.

Change the Life of the Zoombie to 2.

Change the Power of the Zoombie to:

Move a square to the right.

Featuring exploding zombies.
BOOM.

Proposal: 28 Hays Later

Timed out without achieving a majority of FOR votes, and thus failed. Josh

Change “The Dead” to the following:

A Zombie is characterized by:

* a Name, that shall be the name of an Idle Player, and shall be different from any other existing Zombie’s Name.
* a Species, that may be any of those listed in the rule “Species”.
* an Attack value.

The Location of each Zombie shall be listed together with its Health and Species in the Garden Patch page, immediately below the Plot where they are located.

A Farmer may Create a Zombie by spending its Species’ Cost in Juice, selecting a legal Name for it and placing it at an empty Square of their choice on any Plot.

Any Farmer may cause all Zombies to Shamble, but only if they have not done so in the last 24 hours. When a Zombie Shambles, the Behaviour specified by its Species is carried out once. The Farmer who carries out this action may select the order in which Zombies Shamble.

No Farmer may Create any Zombies at any time.

Add “Cost: 5 Juice” to the entry of each Species of Zombie, and change “Starting attack” to “Attack”.

The last paragraph is needed for protection until we a) figure out what ‘attack’ means, and b) have a way of killing Zombies.

Proposal: Möbius Farm, Again

Timed out and enacted, 11-0. Josh

Adminned at 25 May 2011 01:01:08 UTC

In “Farmland”, change “distance from that Square to the top row” to “distance from that Square to the leftmost column” and change the shade labeling in the Garden Patch page accordingly. Rotate each Plot 90 degrees clockwise.

Add to “Farmland”:

Whenever a rule refers to the Plot ‘below’ or ‘above’ another Plot, this shall be taken to refer to the ordering in the Garden Patch. The bottom Plot is above the top Plot, and the top Plot is below the bottom Plot. Adjacency between Squares shall be resolved as if the bottom row of each Plot is connected to the top row of the Plot below it.

All Farmers’ Plots are active, and all Idle Farmers’ Plots are inactive. Inactive Plots shall be ignored by all rules, excepting this paragraph. When a Farmer idles, their plot shall be marked “INACTIVE” in the Garden Patch. When a Farmer with an inactive Plot unidles, their Plot is no longer inactive. New Farmers and unidling Farmers with no inactive Plots shall receive a Plot that is immediately below a random Plot (active or inactive).

In the Zoombie’s description, change “Moves at most three squares to the left.” to “Moves at most three squares downward.”

Proposal: Constructions version 3, now with less conditionals

Timed out and passed, 9-1. Josh

Adminned at 25 May 2011 00:56:59 UTC

Create a subrule of constructions called “Woodworking tools” with the following text:

A farmer may build the ‘workbench’ construction into one of their partitions by spending 50 wood.

A farmer who owns a workbench may spend 20 wood to build fences on a square in their plot. This is represented on the garden patch page by putting square brackets around the contents of that square. This increases the Defence Value of that square by 5. A farmer may not build fences on a square which already has fences.

Create a subrule of constructions called “Juicer” with the following text:

A farmer may build the ‘juicer’ construction into one of their partitions by spending 50 wood.

A farmer who owns a juicer may remove a crop from a square on their plot and then increase their juice by 5, or 10 if the crop has the “Juicy” tag. A crop removed in this way is not destroyed for the purposes of the rule “Storage Space”.

Create a subrule of constructions called “Molotov cocktails” with the following text:

A farmer may build the ‘moonshine still’ construction into one of their partitions by spending 50 wood and 30 sun.

A farmer who owns a moonshine still may spend 50 juice to remove the contents of a square, and the contents of all squares adjacent to the target square explosively, including zombies, but not including sheds. The chosen square must be on the owner’s plot. A crop removed in this way is not destroyed for the purposes of the rule “Storage Space”.

Add to the end of the first paragraph in the rule “Planting”:

A seed may also optionally have any number of tags.

For each of the objects in the following list, give them the Juicy tag if they exist in the Gardening Compendium:
Watermelon, Tomato and Pumpkin

Add to the end of the subrule “Storage Space”:

A crop is destroyed whenever it is removed from their plot, except if a rule states otherwise.

Through all the Dynastic Rules, replace the word Sun with the word Water. In the GNDT, each Farmer’s Sun value shall become their Water value. Replace “a Farmer may Harvest” with “a Farmer may draw from the river” in the rule “Resources”.

So a flat reproposal of Ely’s “water” idea, again, given that the voting has been a bit complicated both times. Do we want Sun, Wood and Juice, or Water, Wood and Juice?

Reword the Rule “Planting” to:-

There exist a number of types of Plants, which are listed in the Gardening Compendium wiki page along with the attributes of each. Each type of Plant must have at least a Name, Sun Cost, a Letter and Shade Requirement. Plants may also optionally specify an effect on Gamestate, which only takes effect when the Plant is a Crop.

A Farmer may start cultivating a Plant by spending its Sun Cost; upon doing so, the Farmer may replace any empty Square in their own Plot with a Seed of that Plant (notating this on the Plot as that Plant’s Letter in lower case).

If a Square contains the Seed of a Plant whose Shade Requirement is less than or equal to the Shade of that Square, any Farmer may turn that Seed into the Crop version of that Plant (notating this on the Plot as that Plant’s Letter in upper case).

Rename “Cabbage” to “Kale”, “Walnut” to “Hazelnut”, “Peas” to “Beans”, “Pumpkin” to “Gourd” and “Watermelon” to “Melon”. Set the Letter of each Plant to the first letter of the Name of that Plant.

Reword the effect of the Sunflower from “When the Planter Harvests, e may add 15 more Sun.” to:-

When a Farmer Harvests, they also gain 15 Sun for each Sunflower in their Plot.

Had already started writing this when the previous proposal appeared; this uses upper and lower case to distinguish Seeds from Crops, tidies up the planting rule a bit, and renames some plants to make it easier to remember which letter is which.

Give the following Initials to the existing types of Seeds:

Cabbage - A
Corn - C
Peas - E
Potato - O
Pumpkin - P
Sunflower - U
Tomato - T
Walnut - N
Watermelon - W

If the proposal “Exponential Growth Is Awesome” passes, give the type of seed “Weed” the Initial “~”.

Sun Cost: 30

Shade Requirement: 0

Proposal: Zombies may move

Self-killed. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 22 May 2011 01:30:15 UTC

If there does not exists a rule entitled “The Dead” add an empty Rule entitled “The Dead”.

Add the following text tu the rule entitled “The Dead”:

Zombies should be tracked on the Garden Patch wiki page. If a Zombie‘s Life value is 0 (or smaller), the Zombie dies ie. ceases to exist and is no longer located to any Square or Plant then.

In the Rule entitled “Farmland”, replace

Destroying an object in a Plot is defined as causing all spaces it occupies to become empty.

with:

Destroying an object (other than a Zombie) in a Plot is defined as causing all spaces it occupies to become empty. Zombies can still be located on these spaces though.

Create a subrule to the Rule entitled “The Dead”, name it “They‘re moving” and give it the following text:

A Farmer may move a Zombie as described below, if he owns the Zombie, has not moved the it in the preceding 96 hours and the Zombie is located on another Farmer‘s Plot:

At first a Zombie‘s Nightly Strength is equal to the sum of -10, the Zombie‘s Attack value and the amount of Zombies who are located on the Defender‘s field. The Zombie is moved as described in its Behaviour Attribute. If he attacks any Square (or anything on a Square), the outcome of this Attack is calculated this way:

  • If the Square is empty is located there, nothing happens.
  • If the Square is not empty and its Defence Value is higher than the Zombie‘s Life, the zombie dies.
  • Else: If the Zombie‘s Nightly Strength is higher than the Square‘s Defence Value, anything on that Square (except the Zombie of course) is destroyed. If not, the Square‘s Defence value is decreased by the difference of the Square‘s Defence Value and the Zombie‘s Nightly Strength. The Zombie‘s Life is decreased by the difference between the Square‘s Defence Value and the Zombie‘s Nightly Strength, plus two, divided by two, rounded down, if this value is positve.

If the Zombie dies, the Defender earns the Inventory of this Zombie, if the Ruleset directly states what that Inventory is. If it does not, the Defender earns 1 Wood, 1 Juice and 10 Sun. If the Crop or the Shed has been destroyed by the Zombie, the Attacker gains 10 Wood and may plant or build (respectively) the destroyed Crop or Shed on the Attacker‘s plant. Additionally if a Sunflower has been destroyed, the Attacker earns 50 Sun.

Yep, there are still mechanisms missing to add zombies and move them to other‘s Plots. Also, Juice should have some defensive effect.

Add a new rule to the ruleset, entitled We Chosen Few:

A Farmer can either be a Vegetable Farmer or a Zombie Farmer.

Farmers who were active when this rule was enacted are Vegetable Farmers by default. The following list of Farmers’ names is a complete list of all Farmers who are Vegetable Farmers by default:

ais523, aguydude, Bucky, coppro, Crumb, Darknight, Darth Cliche, Ely, Florw, Galtori, Hix, Ienpw III, Josh, Keba, Kevan, Oze, Purplebeard, Rodlen, Roujo, SingularByte, spikebrennan, Subrincinator, Travis, William, Winner, Yoda

All other Farmers, including New Farmers or unidling Farmers who have not previously been active in this dynasty, are Zombie Farmers by default. If a Vegetable Farmer goes idle or becomes a Zombie Farmer through any other means then they are no longer Vegetable Farmers by default and may be removed from the list in this rule by any Farmer.

Change the list of names in the newly created rule above to reflect the active player list as of the time of enactment.

In the rules entitled Sun (or Resources if that is its name) and, if they exist, Planting and Neighbours, change any iteration of the word “Farmer” to read “Vegetable Farmer”.

Add the following as a sub-rule to the rule entitled either Sun or Resources, entitled Shadow:

As a weekly action, and provided that no other Zombie Framer has done so within the previous two days, a Zombie Farmer may accumulate Shadow. When accumulating Shadow, the Zombie Farmer gains [x] points of Shadow per Square of land in each Vegetable Farmer’s plot that does not currently carry a crop, where [x] is the Shade of that square. Each Zombie Farmer’s Shadow is tracked in the GNDT under Resources.

If it exists, add the following to the end of the rule entitled Planting.

Zombie Farmers may not plant any seeds except Headstones, and only Zombie Farmers may plant Headstones. As a weekly action, a Zombie Farmer may plant a Headstone as if it were a seed (as per the details above). Note that the Headstone’s cost is in Shadow.

If there is a rule entitled Planting, then add the following to the list of seeds on the Gardening Compendium wiki page:

Headstone

Name: Headstone
Shadow Cost: 100
Shade Requirement: 6

To the end of the following sentence in the rule entitled Farmland:

The Shade of a Square is a number that refers to the distance from that Square to the top row of the Farmer’s Plot to which it belongs.

add:

All Squares in a Zombie Farmer’s Plot have a Shade of 6.

Add a new Dynastic Rule, “The Dead”:

A Zombie is characterized by:
* a Name, that shall be the name of an Idle Player, and shall be different from any other existing Zombie’s Name.
* a Species, that may only be one of those listed as subrule to the subrule “Species” to this Rule. Species describe the Behaviour of the Zombies of that Species, as well as its eventual Powers and its starting Attack and Life.
* an Attack and a Life, two nonnegative integers. Their starting value depend on the Species.
* a Location, that is the square where the zombie is located. It shall be written as Abc(C|R) where Abc is the name of the Farmer owning the Plot where the zombie is placed, and (C|R) indicates the square.
Zombies are listed in the Garden Patch page next to the Plot where they are located. In addition, Farmers may write a digit in the square where a zombie is located.
Creating a new Zombie is called initializing it. The player initializing a Zombie may choose the starting value of those Zombie parameters for which the Ruleset does not provide a starting value for that case.

Add a sub rule to that rule, “Species”:

====Wanderer====
Starting Attack: 1
Starting Life: 2
Behaviour: Moves to a random adjacent square. Attack anything located there.
Powers: None.
====Zoombie====
Starting attack: 2
Starting Life: 1
Behaviour: Moves at most three squares to the left. If it meets something, it stops and attacks it.
Powers: None

Note that Behaviour, Move, Power, Attack(verb and noun), Life are not completely defined.

In “Farmland”, change “distance from that Square to the top row” to “distance from that Square to the leftmost column” and change the shade labeling in the Garden Patch page accordingly.

Plots of new or unidling Farmers shall be added to the bottom of the Garden Patch. As a weekly action, the Landlord may randomize the ordering of the plots in the Garden Patch.

Implementing Ely’s idea. We could add a mechanic that allows Farmers to spawn zombies at the plot immediately below them, who could then traverse all plots until killed, looping around if necessary.

Proposal: Join the Plant Resistance Front

Antiquorumed, 2-14. Josh

Adminned at 20 May 2011 09:13:46 UTC

Add a new dynastic rule, “Neighbours”:

Each Farmer is the Next Door Neighbour of the Farmer listed directly before him in the Garden Patch wiki page. Each Farmer is the “Previous Door Neighbour” of the Farmer listed directly after him in that page. For the purpose of this rule, the last Farmer listed is considered as directly before the first one, and the first one as directly after him. Every Farmer shall thus have exactly two Neighbours, and be Neighbour of exactly those two.

Change Rule “Farmland” to:

Each Farmer has a Plot that is tracked on the Garden Patch wiki page in a particular order, that is part of the gamestate. New Farmers start directly after or before the Landlord in the list. This shall be chosen randomly. Each Plot starts as a 6 by 6 grid of Squares. Each Square starts out empty.
The top row in a Plot is known as the first and the bottom row is known as the last row. Similarly, the most left column is known as the first column while the most right is known as the last column. A square may be referenced at (C|R) while C and R are the columns and rows, respectively, starting to count from the first to the last, starting with 0.
Two Squares are adjacent if they share exactly one side. In addition, each square in the first row of every Farmer’s Plot is considered adjacent to the square in the same column and in the last row of the Plot of that Farmer’s Previous Door Neighbour, and vice versa.
The Shade of a Square is a number that refers to the distance from that Square to the first column of the Farmer’s Plot to which it belongs.

Order alphabetically the Farmers’ Plots in the Garden Patch wiki page.
If a quorum of the EVC’s to this Proposal includes the word “BOOM”, list them in the same order of their first comments to this Proposal instead, with those not commenting put last, in alphabetical order. (i.e. the first one to comment becomes first, the second to comment becomes second etc.)

Flipping the plots, adding neighbours, leaving the choice open to have it proto-random or alphabetical. I’d prefer the BOOM option since active players would end up near.

Each farmer has a Last Line of Defense that is tracked on the Garden Patch wiki page. Each Last Line of Defense starts as a 1 by 6 vertical grid of Posts. Each Post starts out filled with a Last Ditch Defense.

The top row in a Last Line of Defense is known as the first row and the bottom row in a Last Line of Defense is known as the last row. A Post of Last Line of Defense may be referenced at (-1:R), where R is the row, starting to count from the top to the bottom, starting with 0.

A Proposal is known as a Seed Proposal, if both its title contain the phrase “[Seed]”, and it‘s only purpose is to add, remove or amend one or more Seeds. Farmers should not submit proposals which try to amend or remove Seeds, if some Farmer has already used them.

All Farmers who have less than two Proposals pending and have not already made three Proposals that day, may submit a Proposal. A Farmer may submit a Proposal, even if they have two Proposals pending, if and only if this causes the Farmer to have at least one pending Seed Proposal. This Rule takes precedence of the Rule entitled “Proposals”.

Create a subrule of “A Bit of Renovating” called “Contructions”, with the text:

If a farmer has a partition filled by a particular construction, they are said to own that construction. Individual constructions are defined by subrules of this rule.

There exist a number of types of Seeds, which are listed in the Gardening Compendium wiki page along with the attributes of each.  Each type of Seed must have at least a Name, Sun Cost, and Shade Requirement.  Seeds may also optionally specify an effect on Gamestate, which may not be triggered until the Seed becomes a Crop.

At any time, a Farmer may Plant a Seed if he has a number of Sun that is at least the Sun Cost of the Seed.  In order to Plant a Seed, the Farmer must spend the Sun Cost of the desired Seed of his Sun and then replace the contents of one of the Squares in their Plot with a copy of the Seed with the corresponding attributes provided that Square’s Shade is at least the Shade Requirement of the Seed at which point the Seed becomes a Crop with the same attributes of the Seed from which it came.

Crops may also have some kind of effect on Gamestate.  For the purposes of the effects of Crops, the Farmer who owns the Square that the Crop is in is called the Planter.

Adminned at 20 May 2011 04:05:44 UTC

Perform the following changes, in order:

1) In “Ruleset and Gamestate”, change “Section Three contains the glossary” to “Section Three contains the Appendix”, and rename the glossary to “Appendix”.

2) Move the entire rule “Dynasties” to be immediately below the rule “Farmers”.

3) From “Proposals”, remove “A Proposal may not also be a Call for Judgment.”

4) From “Victory and Ascension”, remove the paragraph that starts with “A Declaration of Victory may not also be…”

5) Move the entire rule “Gamestate Tracking” to the newly renamed Appendix, immediately below the Keywords section.

6) In “Farmers”, change ‘Rules 1.1, 1.2, 1.8 and 1.10’ to ‘Rules “Ruleset and Gamestate”, “Farmers” , “Dynasties” and “Fair Play”’.

7) In “Voting”, change ‘for the purposes of rule 1.5’ to ‘for the purposes of rule “Resolution of Proposals”’.

8) In the newly renamed Appendix, change both instances of ‘rule 1.4’ to ‘rule “Voting”’.

That should cover Kevan’s concerns from my earlier proposal. With these changes, all references to rule numbers in the ruleset are replaced by the title of the corresponding rule.

On a completely unrelated note, it turns out that idle Landlords can still use their veto due to an interesting interaction between “Farmers” and “Dynasties” (they still count as Farmers for the second rule).

Proposal: Watering Can

Timed out and failed, 6-9. Josh

Adminned at 20 May 2011 04:05:20 UTC

Through all the Dynastic Rules, replace the word Sun with the word Water. In the GNDT, each Farmer’s Sun value shall become their Water value.

Replace “a Farmer may Harvest” with “a Farmer may draw from the river”.

Yoda vetoed Ely’s original proposal of this “to make way for Plant vs. Zombies” (because the PopCop videogame uses “Sun” as a player currency, and not “Water”), but the suggestion had 7 votes in favour at the time. It’d be good to check how the vote would have gone if more people had the chance to respond, and now that we know what the real dynastic theme is.

I quite liked Purplebeard’s comment that “running a successful farm during an unexplained zombie apocalypse might be interesting”, that we could take the basic concept of PvZ, but explore a very different take on it. Collecting and storing precious water could make for a more “realistic” game than somehow harvesting and redistributing sunlight, if people wanted to head down that route.

Proposal: This is not a solitaire.

Each Farmer has a Plot that is tracked on the Garden Patch wiki page, in a particular order wich is part of the Gamestate as well. Each Plot starts as a 6 by 6 grid of Squares. Each Square start out empty.
The top row in a Plot is known as the first and the bottom row is known as the last row. Similarly, the most left column is known as the first column while the most right is known as the last column. A square may be referenced at (C|R) while C and R are the columns and rows, respectively, starting to count from the first to the last, starting with 0.
Two Squares are adjacent if share exactly a side. In addition, each square in the first column of every Farmer’s Plot is considered adjacent to the square in the same row and in the last column of the Plot of that Farmer’s Previous Door Neighbour, and vice versa.
The Shade of a Square is a number that refers to the distance from that Square to the top row of the Farmer’s Plot to which it belongs.

Order alphabetically the Farmers’ Plots in the Garden Patch wiki page.

Proposal: Spring Cleaning

Perform the following changes, in order:

1) In “Ruleset and Gamestate”, change “Section Three contains the glossary” to “Section Three contains the Appendix”, and rename the glossary to “Appendix”.

2) Move the entire rule “Dynasties” to be immediately below the rule “Farmers”.

3) From “Proposals”, remove “A Proposal may not also be a Call for Judgment.”

4) Move the entire rule “Gamestate Tracking” to the newly renamed Appendix, immediately below the Keywords section.

These changes are mostly geared towards new Farmers, who’ll probably read the core rules in order the first time.

Reasoning behind each change:

1) It stopped being a true glossary ages ago.
2) This is such a fundamental rule of blognomic that it deserves to be much higher up. Also, it defines the term ‘Landlord’  which is used frequently in the rest of the section.
3) Now covered by “Gamestate Tracking”
4) This is the definition of something that “clarifies the remainder of the ruleset.”, so it belongs in the third section.

The ordering of the proposal, CfJ, DoV and voting rules also bugs me a bit, but I’ll leave them be for now.

Rule Misfire

Given that we just started a new dynasty, the rule “Joint Owners” has self-repealed.

Welcome to Nomic, Galtori.

Please Join Me

First time at this.  Please add me to the roster.

Protosal: There‘s a river

If there exists a Rule entitled “Farmland” replace

Each Plot starts as a 6 by 6 grid of Squares.  Each Square start out empty.

with:

Each Plot starts as a 6 by 6 grid of Squares, while the top row is known as the first and the bottom row is known as the last row. Similarly, the most left column is known as the first column while the most right is known as the last column. A square may be referenced at (C|R) while C and R are the columns and rows, respectively, starting to count from the first to the last, starting with 0.

Each Square start out empty, expect the squares (1|0), (1|1), (2|1), (2|2), (1|3), (1|4), (1|5), (3|3), (3|4) and (3|5), which contain water. These Water squares are represented with a lowercase “w”.

If there exists a Rule entitled “Floral Defences” and the Proposal “There are defences” was enacted, replace:

  • If the Square contains a Crop its Defence Value is minus its Shade.

with:

  • If the Square contains a Crop and no water its Defence Value is minus its Shade.
  • If the Square contains Water and no Crop, its Defence Value is 2. For the purpose of swimming Zombies its Defence Value is -10
  • If the Square contains both Water and a Crop, its Defence Value is 2 minus its Shade. For the purpose of swimming Zombies its Defence Value is -10 plus its Shade.

We‘re kinda unlucky farmer, arent‘t we? Well, at least I hope we’ll lucky enough that some Farmer finds ways to plant “sea-roses” or sth. similar.

Note that for swimming Zombies on Crop+Water squares the Shade increases the defence instead of decreasing it.

PS: The river looks like this: http://paste.pocoo.org/show/390895/

Proposal: There are defences

If there exists a Rule called “Floral Defences” amend it by replacing:

Each Square of a Plot has a Defence Value, which is an integer that can be 0 or negative,

with:

Each Square of a Plot has a Defence Value, which is an integer that can be positive, negative or 0,

There are ways to defend.

Proposal: Zombie framework

Reached a quorum 15-0.—Yoda

Adminned at 18 May 2011 19:50:47 UTC

Create a new dynastic rule, “Floral Defences”:

Each Square of a Plot has a Defence Value, which is an integer that can be 0 or negative, and represents how resistant that Square is to zombie invasion. It is automatically calculated whenever its value is required, using the following rules:

  • If the Square contains a Shed, its Defence Value is 0.
  • If the Square contains a Crop, its Defence Value is minus its Shade.
  • Otherwise, its Defence Value is -10 minus its Shade.

Other rules may modify these values, or define ways in which Crops can modify these values.

No Zombies yet. But here’s some mechanics to figure out how hard a time they’ll have when they do. Zombies dislike the sun, although they can tolerate it, and can’t easily coexist with plants. I imagine that plant effects might well interact with this. Some of the words in this may well be undefined, but I expect they’ll be defined soon enough.

The Secret’s Out

In case you weren’t on the IRC channel earlier, the official theme for this dynasty is Plants vs. Zombies.  Some people were talking about collaborating on a proposal to add the zombies, so this post can serve as a discussion post.

Well, I said I won’t have much time, but at least I could give it a try. De-idle me please.

Proposal: Calling Ground Control, over

Passes 14-0 with quorum FOR. -Bucky

Adminned at 18 May 2011 10:55:04 UTC

Add a new subrule to the rule “Farmland” if it exists.  Call it “Storage Space” and give it the following text:

Each Plot may have up to one Shed on it.  A shed may be small or large; a small shed is represented by a lowercase ‘s’ and a large shed is represented by an upper-case ‘S’.  A Farmer whose plot does not contain a Shed may spend 50 Sun to construct a small shed in any empty Square on their Plot.

Sheds have large shadows; the Shade of a square orthogonally (not diagonally) adjacent to a shed is considered to be 1 higher for the purpose of every rule except the one named “Farmland” and this one.

Not included - shed upgrades, which should require money as well as time to perform.

Proposal: A trivial one

Adminned at 18 May 2011 05:47:15 UTC

Through all the Dynastic Rules, replace the word Sun with the word Water.

I wanted to make a smart proposal but due to lack of ideas I decided to post this.

Proposal: Let’s Start Planting

Vetoed. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 18 May 2011 05:46:53 UTC

Add a new dynastic rule titled “Planting” with the following text:

There exist a number of types of Seeds listed in the Gardening Compendium wiki page, each with its own unique attributes.  Each Seed must have at least a Name, Sun Cost, and Shade Requirement. At any time, a Farmer may Plant a Seed if he has a number of Sun that is at least the Sun Cost of the Seed.  In order to Plant a Seed, the Farmer must subtract the Sun Cost of the desired Seed from his Sun and then replace the contents of one of the Squares in their Plot with the Seed provided that Square’s Shade is at least the Shade Requirement of the Seed at which point the Seed becomes a Crop with the same attributes of the Seed from which it came.

Crops may also have some kind of effect on Gamestate.  For the purposes of the effects of Crops, the Farmer who owns the Square that the Crop is in is called the Planter.

Revert all changes to the Gardening Compendium wiki page since this proposal was posted.

Story Post: Dana’s Welcome

A’ight kids. I know everyone only just got ‘ere, but I wanted to welcome y’all to our farm m’self. I hope y’alls trip from the city wasn’t too long. We still got a lot of seeds from the winter, so don’t y’all go worryin’ ‘bout runnin’ outta seeds. Just make sure they get plenty o’ sun so’s they grow up good ‘n strong. Our current stock o’ seeds is found on that fancy wiki page. I hope this fancy link here works. (http://blognomic.com/wiki/index.php?title=Gardening_Compendium)

I hope y’all can make our land colorful and tasty! Well, I gotta go tend to my tomato garden. It’s a prize winner at the county fair and aint no way I leave my babies alone for too long! See y’all around.

Proposal: Politics and Global Warning

Self-killed. -Purplebeard

Adminned at 18 May 2011 00:07:48 UTC

Add a new subrule to the dynastic rule.  Call it “Weather Events” and give it the following text:

A proposal authored by the Landlord or the Wife that modifies the Garden Patch and does not modify any other gamestate is an Event Proposal.  An Event Proposal may be enacted or failed as though it were the oldest pending proposal even if there are older pending non-Event Proposals.

A vote by the Landlord or Wife on an Event Proposal counts as two votes for the purpose of determining enactment; Quorum on an Event Proposal is therefore considered to be 1 higher than on a normal proposal.

Proposal: Lesser Divinities

If a rule exists called Farmland, remove the following sentence from it:

The Landlord or the Wife may alter any Squares in a Farmer’s Plot at any time but should make a post to the blog detailing why they made such an action.

Create a new core rule titled “Extensions” with the following text:

Any farmer may create an extension post by posting an entry in the “extension” catagory. The entry must contain exactly one hyperlink, which points to the url of a different blognomic entry, hereinafter referred to as the linked post. The farmer should also comment on the linked post, stating that an extension post has been created and linking back to the extension post.

Any comments to an extension post are considered to be comments of its linked post. The comments are considered to have been created in the linked post at exactly the same time as they were created in the extension post.

I’ve noticed that some blog posts get too close to their maximum comment limit so here’s a potential solution.

Galtori is considered to be the “Wife” and cannot achieve victory in the current dynasty.  Any admin may repeal this rule after the start of a new dynasty.

Add a new dynastic rule titled “Sun” with the following text:

Each Farmer has an amount of Sun that is tracked in the GNDT.  Farmers start with 0 Sun.  As a weekly action, a Farmer may Harvest by adding 100 to his Sun.

Ascension Address: Working the Land

Hi, my name’s Bob. And this here’s my wife, Dana, but all the locals call her Crazy Dana cuz she’s been known to go ‘round the bend a time or two. I played me a few good hands of poker the other day and won us some nice pieces o’ land, but more than me and Dana could ever handle on our own. I know that y’all been stuck in that ol’ city for a while, so I thought I’d let y’all try yer hands on the farm for a while.

I’ll let you till the land however you wish as long as you don’t destroy the place.  Don’t go causing no trouble is all I’m sayin’. Otherwise I’ll sick Dana on you…

Repeal all dynastic rules.  Replace “Market” with “Landlord” and “Investor” with “Farmer”.

Blognomicbot is dead, long live blognomicbot!

Hi there,

I wasn‘t active for a quite long time and presumably I won‘t be active in near future as well. But a long time ago I promised to host the blognomicbot, and so: http://paste.pocoo.org/show/390512/ (isn’t there a way to embed some code here? Strange…)

I used the script, which ais523 has sent me some months ago, modified some small things, eg. I set the current emperor, and it seems to work now. The sidebar here could get updated as well, if I remember correctly Kevan has to modify some files for that purpose.

Have fun using it, Keba.

PS: As I said, I won’t be very active at playing nomics, but I’ll try to idle in #nomic. So ping me if “my” bot crashes or a new emperor arises. :)

If Declaration of Victory: I have achieved economic dominance! passes, this CfJ does nothing. If it has not been resolved when this CfJ is enacted, fail it.

Repeal all dynastic rules.

Add the following as a dynastic rule, entitled The Sixth Metadynasty:

BlogNomic is currently in a state of metadynasty. This mean that it currently has no Market. BlogNomic ceases to be in a state of metadynasty when a successful DoV is passed.

The enacting Admin on this CfJ must make a brief post in the Ascension Address category noting that a new metadynasty has begun, and may optionally change the colour scheme and header no more than once in the 24 hours immediately following this CfJ’s enactment.

Yoda’s win seems to be widely disputed but the status quo ante is not an attractive proposition. Metadynasties are quite good for core rules fixes, though, and it seems like we need some of those.

Call for Judgment: Some Housekeeping

Antiquorumed. Josh

Adminned at 19 May 2011 00:44:36 UTC

Replace the second paragraph in the rule “Call for Judgment” with the following text:

Any Call for Judment may be enacted by any Admin (and the Ruleset and/or Gamestate updated to include the specified effects of that CfJ) if any of the following is true:
- It has a number of FOR votes that exceeds or equals Quorum.
- It has been posted for at least 4 days and more than half the cast Votes are FOR votes.
- It has been posted for at least 48 hours, there is a hiatus going on, and more than half the cast Votes are FOR votes.

Any CfJ may be failed by any Admin (and no effects of the CfJ carried out) if any of the following are true:
- It has a number of AGAINST Votes that exceeds or equals Quorum.
- It has been posted for at least 4 days and no more than half the cast Votes are FOR votes.
- It has been posted for at least 48 hours, there is a hiatus going on, and no more than half the cast Votes are FOR votes.

Delete the text “Whenever an Admin marks a proposal, CfJ, or DoV as enacted or failed, they must also mark their name, and report the final tally of Votes (or the fact that it was self-killed or vetoed).” from the rule titled “Resolution of Proposals” and add the same text to the end of the fourth paragraph of the rule titled “Gamestate Tracking”.

Replace the text “either the Market has Voted FOR it” in the rule titled “Victory and Ascension” with “either the Market’s Vote is FOR”.

These are some clarifications to the Core Ruleset that have been brought up in the course of this hiatus.  If my DoV does pass, I plan on waiting for this to pass before posting the Ascension Address so that it does not get lost in the sea of new posts.

The Investor known as ais523 has achieved victory.

I can trivially win at this point by paying dividends at Cayman Island Holding Corp., followed by creating another five shell companies that I solely own and becoming chairman of each of their respective boards. It would take another twelve blog posts, though, so I feel it’s fairer and less spammy to just propose a win, rather than have to go the long way about it. (This also makes it easier to fix the damage if people decide that my previous scam didn’t work, although it seems fine; for those who missed it, I changed CIH’s Business Plan via a proposal, which was also a Shareholder Meeting, to get around the restriction that the Market must approve business plans. This particular combination of official posts is not ruled out by any of the core or dynastic rules; the major error in the ruleset is that rule 2.5 says “post” not “story post”, which would have barred the post also being a proposal.)

Replace the Business Plan of Cayman Island Holding Corp., specifying the following Business Plan as the new plan to replace it with: “If Purplebeard’s latest GNDT update or comment was within the minute that started at 07:36 UTC on any day, 288000; otherwise, DICE2-2”.

Record Date information:

  • ais523 - 51
  • Roujo - 49

Given that I have no control over when Purplebeard makes GNDT updates/comments, and assuming they’re equally likely to happen at any time during the day (which seems reasonable, as I don’t know which timezone Purplebeard lives in), the expectation here is a 1 in 1440 chance of +288000, and a 1399 in 1440 chance of -0.5. This gives an expectation of 199.500357143. (Note that even if you disagree with my reasoning here, it’s just recommended that business plans have expectations below 200, not required.)

The other thing to note is that this post is both a Shareholder Meeting and a Proposal. Thus, if this meeting is approved (and I would be shocked if it wouldn’t be), the resulting Business Plan, like all those changed by proposal, does not need approval from the Market and instead goes into effect immediately. (Rule 2.2.1, with the current numbering.)

In “Replace Management”, change:

its expected value should not exceed 200.

to

its expectated value should not exceed 200, or 25% of the Corporation’s Worth at the time of posting, whichever is larger.

In the same rule, change “decreased by 100” to “decreased by 50”

For reference, Yoda’s Production Line also has an EV of +25% (at a reasonable approximation), and that’s only as a weekly action.

Proposal: Proper Takeovers

In “Merger Acceptance”, add the following before both points starting with “Reduce the number of Shares of the Target Corporation held by all Investors to zero”, renumbering where appropriate:

Add the Target’s Business Plan to the Offeror’s Business plan.

Also, add to the end of “Business Plans”:

The market may rewrite any Business Plan to a mathematically equivalent one at any time if they deem the new plan shorter or easier to read.

Proposal: A Way to Increase Stock Prices

s/k’ed.—Yoda

Adminned at 12 May 2011 08:56:09 UTC

Add a new dynastic rule titled “Production” with the following text:

As a weekly action, an Investor who owns at least 1 share in a Corporation, if no other Investor has already done so for that Corporation that week, call for a Production Line.  To call for a Production Line, the Investor shall perform the following steps in order:
1. Subtract an amount of Worth (the Production Cost) from the Corporation not to exceed that Corporation’s Worth * the Investor’s number of shares of that Corporation / 100.
2. Roll a DICEX in the GNDT where X is the Production Cost * 2.5.
3. Add the result of the DICEX roll to the Worth of that Corporation.

If at least half of the EVC’s on this proposal contain the text “All should get a chance”, remove the text “, if no other Investor has already done so for that Corporation that week,” from the rule “Production”.

Proposal: Some Business Plan Clarification

Reached a quorum 7-0.—Yoda

Adminned at 12 May 2011 08:55:43 UTC

Change the rule “Business Plans” to read

Each Corporation has a Business Plan which is tracked on the BN Index. A Business Plan is the amount which is added to the Worth of the Corporation to which it belongs during each Quarterly Report.

If no Investor has made a Quarterly Report within the past 48 hours, any Investor may do so. To make a Quarterly Report, An Investor must first Make a Comment in the GNDT stating that they are doing so, then they must compute the new Worth of each Corporation, by adding each Business Plan to its corresponding Corporation’s Worth, and update the BN Index to reflect this.

If a Business Plan would be changed by any means other than by Proposal, the new Business Plan is placed in parenthesis below the current Business plan, and has no effect on Quarterly Reports until The Market Signs Off on it by removing the parenthesis and removing the old Business Plan from the BN Index. The Market may also veto a plan that is in parenthesis by removing it from the BN Index and keeping the current Business Plan, but should explain their reason for doing so in a blog post or comment. If the Market vetoes a plan that was created by a Shareholder Meeting, they shall increase the Worth of the corresponding Corporation by 100.

In the rule “Startups”, change “Add ((1DICE4) - 2) * 50” to “((1DICE4) - 2) * 50”.

Remove the word “Add” from every Corporation’s Business Plan.

Add a new dynastic rule entitled “Litigation”, with text as follows:

Any Investor may engage in Litigation with any other Investor or with any Corporation in accordance with this rule.  To initiate litigation, the initiating Investor (the “Plaintiff”) makes a blog post (the “Complaint”) indicating that they are initiating litigation and identifying the Investor or Corporation that is to be the target of the Litigation (such target, the “Defendant”).  The content of the Plaintiff’s Complaint must contain a statement in the form “Merit = X”, where X is an integer between 1 and 300.  The Complaint may also contain any non-gamestate text that the Plaintiff desires to give character to the nature of the dispute.  Within 1 hour after posting that blog post, the Plaintiff must reduce the amount of Credits of Currency that he owns by one third of X, rounded down to the nearest integer, representing the fees and expenses of conducting the Litigation.

If the Defendant is an Investor, the Defendant may Answer the Litigation by posting a comment to the Plaintiff’s Complaint conforming to this rule.  If the Defendant is a Corporation, then the first comment to the Plaintiff’s Complaint that is made by an Investor (other than the Plaintiff) who is a shareholder of the Defendant Corporation and that conforms to this rule constitutes the Defendant’s Answer to the Complaint, so long as the Investor posting the comment states that he is posting it in that capacity.  The Answer must contain a statement in the form “Merit = Y”, where Y is an integer between 1 and 300 but which must be greater than or equal to X.  The Answer may also contain any non-gamestate text to give character to the nature of the dispute.  Within 1 hour after posting that comment, the Defendant (or, in the case of a Defendant Corporation, the shareholder who posted the comment that constitutes the Answer) must reduce the amount of Creditrs of Currency that the Defendant owns (or, in the case of a Defendant Corporation, the Defendant Corporation’s Worth) by one fourth of Y, rounded down to the nearest integer.

After an Answer is posted to a Complaint, the Market shall resolve the Litigation by rolling DICEX and DICEY in the GNDT.  If DICEX is greater than DICEY then the Plaintiff prevails in the Litigation, in which case Plaintiff’s Credits of Currency is increased by X and Defendant’s Credits of Currency (or Defendant’s Worth, in the case of a Defendant Corporation) is reduced by X.  If DICEY is greater than or equal to DICEX then the Defendant prevails in the Litigation, in which case Plaintiff’s Credits of Currency is decreased by one fourth of Y (representing reimbursement of Defendant’s legal fees), and Defendant’s Credits of Currency (or Defendant’s Worth, in the case of a Defendant Corporation) is increased by one fourth of Y.

If no valid Answer is posted to a particular Complaint within 5 days after the Complaint is made, then the Plaintiff prevails in the Litigation by default, in which case Plaintiff’s Credits of Currency is increased by X and Defendant’s Credits of Currency (or Defendant’s Worth, in the case of a Defendant Corporation) is reduced by X

If more than half of the EVCs on this proposal include the phrase “High-stakes litigation” then replace “300” with “1000” wherever it appears in the proposed rule text above.

Set the Worth of Rules and Co to 500 and the Business Plan of Rules and Co to “Add ((1DICE4) - 2) * 50”.

This I think is a more fair version of my previous proposal, and has the added benefit of getting RUL out of the hole (essentially resetting their stats to that of a new Startup).

Proposal: Cash Flow Problems

Timed out 8-0.—Yoda

Adminned at 11 May 2011 13:12:50 UTC

Change the text of “Currency” to the following:

All Investors have a Currency value measured in Credits which may hold any integer value larger than or equal to -1000 and is tracked in the GNDT. New Investors start with 1,000 Credits. Investors with negative Currency are said to be In Debt. Investors with less than -500 Credits are said to be Bankrupt (and are In Debt as well). No Investor may take any action that involves decreasing their Currency if they are Bankrupt, or if that action would cause them to become Bankrupt.

As a weekly action, only if no Investor has done so that week and only if at least one Investor has negative Currency, any Investor may multiply the Currency of each Investor who is In Debt by 1.10.

In the first rule called “Restrictions”, change ‘Z * (Y+1)’ to ‘Z * (Y+1) - 500’

Gives everyone some more cash to play with at a significant risk, and might lead to more Shares trading hands. This only applies to Sell Orders for now, so that you can’t drive fellow Investors into deep debt by executing their buy orders (because some Investors still have buy orders up for way more than they have). You can still get screwed by a startup, but only if you pledge more money than you have.

Also, note that this gives each Investor who hasn’t spent anything yet precisely enough to start up their own Corporation, should they wish to.

Proposal: And they hang your portrait in the headquarters lobby

In both “Startups” and “Shareholder Meetings”, change “48 hours” to “72 hours”.

Add to the last paragraph of “Business Plans”:

If the Market vetoes a plan that was created by a Shareholder Meeting, they shall increase the Worth of the corresponding Corporation by 100.

Giving some more leeway for both types of meetings, and allowing me to refund the expenses of management replacements (because I may not be able to catch some offending plans before they pass).

Add a new dynastic rule titled “Economic Stimulus” with the following text:

When a non-Trivial Proposal passes, the enacting Admin shall add 50 to the Currency of the author of the Proposal.  A Trivial Proposal is defined as a Proposal where at least half of the EVCs contain the word “trivial”.

Let’s get some economic stimulus going!  This dynasty seems to need a little pick-me-up.

Add 1000 to the Worth of Rules and Co.

I think that it’s a little unfair to new corporations to start so far below the already established ones.  If we are trying to stimulate new businesses, why have them start at such a disadvantage?

Proposal: The urge to merge

Timed out 7-0.—Yoda
Wow, that tested my knowledge of wiki formatting…

Adminned at 07 May 2011 12:15:27 UTC

If there is a dynastic rule entitled “Shareholder Meetings”, add the following subrules:

Merger Offer
A Shareholder Meeting post for a “Merger Offer” shareholder Meeting must include:
- An identification of the Corporation that is the Target (which must be a different Corporation than the Merger Offer was called for)
- A specification of whether the merger is a cash deal or a stock deal.
  - If the merger is a cash deal, the Shareholder Meeting post must specify an amount of Currency (which may be referred to as the “Cash Price”).
  - If the merger is a stock deal, the Shareholder Meeting post must specify two positive percentage amounts that sum to 100% (for example, 85% and 15%) and specify which of those percentages is the “Offeror Percentage” and which of those percentages is the “Target Percentage”
  - The deadline for the Corporation that is the Target Corporation to pass a “Merger Acceptance” Shareholder Meeting to close the merger.

This Corporation may be refered to as the “Offeror”.

If an Offeror passes a “Merger Offer” with respect to a particular target Corporation, that “Merger Offer” supersedes any previous “Merger Offer” that had previously been passed by that Offeror with respect to that target Corporation.

Merger Acceptance
This Shareholder Meeting may only be called if an Offeror Corporation passed a “Merger Offer” Shareholder Meeting identifying this Corporation as the Target Corporation, and if the deadline stated in that Merger Offer has not yet passed.  A Shareholder Meeting post for a “Merger Acceptance” Shareholder Meeting must reasonably specify which “Merger Offer” is being accepted, and should re-state the terms of the Merger Offer.  If the Merger Offer is a stock deal then the Merger Acceptance must specify the Record Date information for the Offeror as well as the Target.

Whin this Shareholder Meeting is approved, take the following steps in the following order:
If the Merger Offer is a cash deal:
    1. Increase the Offeror’s Worth by an amount equal to the Target’s Worth, then reduce the Target’s Worth to zero.
    2. If the Offeror’s Worth is less than the stated Cash Price of the Merger Offer, then the approval of this Merger Acceptance has no effect (and step 1, if already taken, should be undone).
    3. If the Offeror’s Worth is equal to or greater then the stated Cash Price, then:
          A.  Subtract an amount equal to the stated Cash Price of the Merger Offer from the Offeror’s Worth.
          B.  Increase the number of Credits of Currency held by each Investor who holds Shares of the Target Corporation by an amount equal to (the stated Cash Price * (A/100)), rounded down to the nearest integer, where A is the number of Shares of the Target Corporation held by that Investor per the Record Date information of the Merger Acceptance.
    4. Reduce the number of Shares of the Target Corporation held by all Investors to zero, and remove all references to the Target Corporation from the BN Index in light of the fact that the Target Corporation has ceased to exist.

If the Merger Offer is a stock deal:
    1. Increase the Offeror’s Worth by an amount equal to the Target’s Worth, then reduce the Target’s Worth to zero.
    2. Multiply the number of Shares of the Offeror held by each Investor who holds Shares of the Offeror per the Merger Acceptance Record Date Information by the Offeror Percentage stated in the Merger Offer, rounded down to the nearest integer.
    3. Award to each Investor who holds Shares of the Target per the Merger Acceptance Record Date Information a number of shares equal to (S * the Target Percentage), rounded down to the nearest integer, where S equals the number of Shares of the Target held by that Investor per the Merger Acceptance Record Date Information.
    4. If the application of steps 2 and 3 result in fewer than 100 Shares of Offeror being outstanding, award a number of shares of Offeror to the Market such that the Offeror has exactly 100 Shares outstanding.
    5. Reduce the number of Shares of the Target Corporation held by all Investors to zero, and remove all references to the Target Corporation from the BN Index in light of the fact that the Target Corporation has ceased to exist.

Proposal: New Business Plan for Rules & Co.

Timed out 1-4.—Yoda

Adminned at 07 May 2011 08:08:58 UTC

Change the Business Plan for Rules & Co. to the following:

Add (CADINR-46)*100,  Where CADINR is the value of “Canadian Dollar in Indian Rupee” indicated on the page http://www.google.com/finance?q=CADINR

Rules & Co. has recently expanded into a new market, and its worth should reflect that.
The value of the Dollar has been between 46 and 47 for a few weeks now and the EV is probably 10-80, but the actual result can be higher or lower. At the moment it would be 31.

Adminned at 06 May 2011 19:58:24 UTC

Repeal the rule titled “The Invisible Hand”.  Set the Market’s Currency to 1000.

It seems like many of the rules and operations of this dynasty seem to forget that the Market is not considered an Investor.  For example, the Market is not considered to have any Currency, yet the rule Market Orders gives the Market currency whenever an Investor buys or sells stock.  There are also some rules that could be interpreted strangely with this rule in place (such as the rule Shareholders Meetings), so I think that this is the easiest course of action as I don’t think there’s anything inherently wrong with the Market being able to create a startup company, etc.

Proposal: Disincentives for Hoarding

If the proposal “The Most Powerful Force In The Universe” passes, this proposal does nothing.

Add the following text to the end of the rule “Currency”:

At the beginning of each week at exactly 00:00 on Monday (UTC), the Currency of each Investor shall automatically be multiplied by 0.9 (any Investor may update the GNDT to reflect this).

According to Travis’ idea, this provides an alternative to Purplebeard’s proposal.  This should stimulate buying and trading stocks more often rather than sitting on your money.

Add the following as a subrule to “Shareholder Meetings”, “Replace Management”:

The body of this Shareholder Meeting must specify a legal Business Plan. This Business Plan must be able to produce negative numbers, and its expected value should not exceed 200.

If this Shareholder Meeting is approved, the Business Plan of this Corporation is changed to the specified new Business Plan, and its Worth is decreased by 100 to reflect the costs of such an overhaul.

If a proposed Business Plan uses out-of-game statistics, you’d better be able to show me that the EV is lower than 200.

Add to “Currency”:

As a weekly action, and only if no Investor has done so that week, any Investor may multiply every Investor’s Currency by 1.1 (i.e. add 10% to the total amount).

Hopefully, this will give Investors who hold Shares in Corporations more incentive to do something with them.

Proposal: More on Ventures

s/k’ed—Yoda

Adminned at 04 May 2011 15:58:01 UTC

Replace the text

When 48 hours have passed since the post was made, the Venture ceases to be pending. As long as a Venture is still pending, the Investor who posted it may resolve it as follows: they must decrease their Currency by any multiple of 15, but at least 300, and may optionally decrease the Currency of one or more Investors by any multiple of 15, but no more than each Investor’s Limit. If the total Currency hereby decreased is exactly 1500 the Venture is successful and ceases to be pending, and the Corporation is created with the Name and Ticker Symbol specified in the Venture’s title. This new Corporation shall start with a Worth of 0 and a Business Plan of “Add (2-DICE8)”, and each Investor who lost Currency to this Venture will gain shares equal to the amount of Credits lost divided by 15. Tthis overrides the usual division of Shares for new Corporations.

in the rule Startups with

When 48 hours have passed since the post was made, the Investor who posted it may either resolve it or close it, clearly stating which e is choosing as a comment to the post.  At any time, the Market may choose to close any pending Venture but should explain why e has chosen to close the Venture.

If the Investor who posted the Venture chooses to resolve it, they must decrease their Currency by any multiple of 15, but at least 300, and may optionally decrease the Currency of one or more Investors by any multiple of 15, but no more than each Investor’s Limit. This overrides the usual division of Shares for new Corporations.

If the Investor who posted the Venture or the Market chooses to close it, then the Venture ceases to be pending and no other action is taken.

The way it is worded now, an Investor must resolve the Venture within 48 hours of posting the Venture or it automatically ceases to be pending, at which point they can no longer resolve it.  I checked, however, and Rules and Co did indeed meet this time limit, so no action is necessary on their part.

Change the business plan of Rules & Co. to “Add (Number of Proposals and CfJ’s enacted since the last Quarterly Report + DICE5 - 3)”

What do y’all think?

I have noticed that this is not the first time that the user udqbpn has made meaningless posts/proposals that can be constituted as spam.  I also noticed that a CfJ to ban him from the site failed (I assume on the presumption that he was not in fact the one posting these posts and that his account had somehow been compromised).  Well, now he is still posting these nonsense posts, and has never stated that he has not been the one posting these all along.  Yes, Purplebeard was able to veto his latest proposal, but he could easily halt the game entirely through a DoV.

That being said, I think something needs to happen if he does not cease this behavior.  Simply idling him would prevent any of these posts actually affecting gamestate while not banning him completely from the site.  On the other hand, if this gets any worse, we may need to consider more serious action.

Replace the text “A=300-DICE600” in the rule “Market Fluctuations” with “A = 300 - X (where X is a random number between 1 and 600, inclusive)”.

If the Proposal titled “Mass Inflation” and the Proposal titled “For what it is Worth.” both failed, this Proposal does nothing.

Add a new rule, “Market Fluctuations”:

At any time, but only if this action has not been performed since the last Fluctuation, the Market may secretly determine A=300-DICE600 for each Corporation. If, for any reason, no value of A has been determined for an existing Corporation, the Market may do so at any time. As a weekly action, the Market may Fluctuate by adding each value of A to the Worth of the corresponding Corporation. They are encouraged to perform this action each Friday.

At any time, an Investor may spend 25 Credits to privately ask the Market for a Tip on a Corporation, or may spend 50 Credits to privately ask the Market for Inside Information on a Corporation. The Market shall respond at their earliest convenience. If asked for a Tip, they shall give the requesting Investor the sign of A for that Corporation (positive, negative or zero). If asked for Inside Information, they shall instead give the requesting Investor the exact number of A for that Corporation.

Yes, I know zero is technically signless.

Increase the Worth of every Corporation by 20 times.
Set the Worth for every Corporation created via Venture post to 200.
Add to the and of every Business Plan, for every Corporation:

*50

Change the second paragraph of rule “Startups” to:

As long as a Venture is still pending, the Investor who posted it may resolve it as follows: they must decrease their Currency by any multiple of 15, but at least 300, and may optionally decrease the Currency of one or more Investors by any multiple of 15, but no more than each Investor’s Limit. This new Corporation shall start with a Worth of 200 and a Business Plan of “Add (2-DICE8)*50”, and each Investor who lost Currency to this Venture will gain shares equal to the amount of Credits lost divided by 15. This overrides the usual division of Shares for new Corporations.

Change rule “Bankrupt” to:

If a Corporation’s Worth has been lower than 0 for 96 hours (4 days) uninterruptedly, its assets are frozen and its stocks cannot change ownership except by proposal, CfJ or as explicitly allowed by this rule’s subrules. Such a Corporation can be referred as a Bankrupt Corporation.

Please excuse me for posting this once more.
The objective of this Proposal was not a scam or personal payback, but fixing an issue I think is one of the causes of the slow pace of this Dynasty.

I think that posting a “Quarterly Report” after 24 hours is a little too often. With a starting time of 48 hours, the Market and all Investors can better track how the companies are doing.

Hopefully this is a good first try. Getting my feet wet.

Hello World!

Hello all,

I am new to Blognomic but was introduced by a good friend Yoda. I hope to join you all and wade through all the rules and fun. I will try to be active, but finals week may slow me down for about one week. After that, I have the wonderful, dear, beloved Summer to make my life a little easier. See you all soon!

Returned, I have!

I am returning to the Blognomic scene.  My goodness, it’s been a while.

Also, I have added nowhereful to the list of active members, and the quorum rises to 13.

Startup: Housing Bubble (HBL)

Housing Bubble is a real estate broker that sells mortgages to financially unstable people at exorbitant interest rates.  HBL then repackages the loans and sells them to third-party investors as high-quality investments.  When the debtors default on their mortgages, the third-party investors lose their money but Housing Bubble has already made its profit.

I know I’m at least three years behind the times, but at least there’s some flavour to HBL.
