Proposal: If You Market

Times out and passes 3-0. Enacted by Brendan.

Adminned at 02 May 2016 16:44:59 UTC

Add a rule called “Licensing” as follows:

A Zone may be themed with an IP License. If a Zone an Imagineer operates has no IP License, at any time, they may create a new IP License by paying its Fee, choosing two market segments, giving it a name, and updating the description of the Zone to include it. (An IP License is not a Building, and its name has no effect on the gamestate or Ruleset.)

The Fee for an IP License starts at 0 and is calculated based on its market segments. For each Child or Senior market segment an IP License includes, add 1000 currency to its Fee. For each Teen or Adult market segment an IP License includes, add 2000 currency to its Fee. An IP License may include duplicate market segments; each instance of a given market segment in an IP License counts toward the limit of two.

At any time, an Imagineer may exercise an IP License by paying 1 SMILE and adding Visitors matching the market segments from that IP License to the current Business Day. For example, an Imagineer could exercise an IP License with market segments of “cc,” spending one SMILE to add two Child Visitors to the current Business Day; exercising an IP License with market segments of “cA” would instead add one Child and one Adult to that Business Day.

If a Zone has an existing IP License, at any time, the Imagineer operating that Zone may pay its Fee again to remove it. After removing an IP License, the Imagineer may not create a new IP License until the Boss has started a new Business Day after the Imagineer removed that IP License.

Change the sentence in the rule “Visitors” that begins “On any given Business Day, up to X Visitors may pass through Nomicland” to read:

On any given Business Day, up to X Visitors may pass through Nomicland, where X is twice the number of Imagineers. If X or more Visitors are already queued for the current Business Day, no Imagineer can add more Visitors until a new Business Day begins.

Reword the rule “Smiles” to read as follows:

Each Imagineer has a integer number of Sunny Memories Instilled in the Lives of Everyday Society or SMILES (or just “Smiles”), tracked the GNDT in a column called Smiles which defaults to 10.

Set the Smiles of each Imagineer to 10.

Proposal: Sleight of Land

Times out and passes 3-0. Enacted by Brendan. However, because OP is not very bright, this modifies a rule called “Buildings” that does not exist. Reproposing.

Adminned at 02 May 2016 16:42:04 UTC

Reword the rule “Concession Stand” as follows:

Cost: 1000
Size: 1
Effect: As part of the Global Accounting step, if at there was at least one Child or Teen Visitor and at least one Adult Visitor that Business Day, the processing Imagineer may move the Boss’s Debt toward 0 by 50. If they do so, they may, during the Local Accounting step of the same Business Day, move their own debt toward 0 by 100.

Add a subrule to “Buildings” called “Indoor Coaster” as follows:

Cost: 2000
Size: 2
Effect: As part of the Local Accounting step, the processing Imagineer gains 1 SMILE per Teen or Adult Visitor that Business Day.

Add a subrule to “Buildings” called “Tunnel System” as follows:

Cost: 2000
Size: 2
Effect: When this Imagineer would pay to create a new Building in a Zone they operate with a Tunnel System in it, when calculating the currency they must spend to do so, they may first divide the total Size of all other Buildings in the Zone by 2.

Add a subrule to “Buildings” called “Guest Assistance Station” as follows:

Cost: 500
Size: 1
Effect: During the Local Accounting step, if there was at least one Child Visitor and one Senior Visitor that Business Day, the processing Imagineer gains 1 Smile.

Proposal: If You Build It

Timed out 2 votes to 1. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 01 May 2016 11:08:31 UTC

Remove the second and third paragraphs of “Budget”. If any Imagineers have received Budget from Requisitions, those Imagineers shall have their Debt increased (ie. moved away from zero) by the same amount as the Budget increase they received.

Add a subrule to “Budget” called “Planning”:-

Each Zone may have one or more Planned Buildings, tracked in the [[Nomicland]] wiki page. (Planned Buildings refer to specific Buildings, but do not count as Buildings themselves.)

As a daily action, the Boss may announce Demand for a specific Building, in a post with a title “Demand: X”, where X is the name of the Building. This is known as a Demand Post.

Imagineers may bid to construct that Building in comments to that post: any such comment which includes the string “I bid X”, where X is a non-negative integer, is considered to be a bid of amount X on it. The winning bid on a Demand Post is the lowest one - if two such bids are tied, the winning bid is the earlier of the tied bids. If a bid exceeds the Boss’s Budget it is ignored. If an Imagineer made the currently winning bid on a Demand Post, they are its Builder.

If a Demand Post has a winning bid which is at least 24 hours old, then any Imagineer may close that post by making a comment on it to this effect, increasing the Builder’s Budget by the Demand Post’s winning bid, reducing the Boss’s Budget by the same amount and marking that Building as Planned for the Builder’s Zone. A closed Demand Post ceases to be considered a Demand Post.

If a Zone has a Planned Building and the corresponding Building exists in that Zone, then any Imagineer may remove it as a Planned Building from that Zone. If an Imagineer has any Planned Buildings in their Zone, then their bids on Demand Posts are ignored.

Replacing the gamesmastery please-sir requisitions system with a bidding mechanic: the Boss announces a Building, we all say how cheaply we can build it, and the lowest bid receives that much money and has to build it (or, at least, can’t bid on any future buildings until they do).

Proposal: Oh, to be young again

Times out 1-2. Failed by Brendan.

Adminned at 30 Apr 2016 20:22:29 UTC

If the following text appears in the rule “Construction”

An Effect applies only to an Imagineer who has at least one instance of that Building in a Zone they operate. An Effect may specify a constant variance to the gamestate for that Imagineer, or may specify additional actions to be carried out once by that Imagineer when processing a Business Day (multiple instances of a given Building may change the magnitude of an Effect, but do not allow the Imagineer to take such actions more than once per Business Day).

then after it append

If multiple effects take place at the same step of processing a business day, they are applied in alphabetical order by building name.

Otherwise, append the following to the rule “Construction”

An Effect applies only to an Imagineer who has at least one instance of that Building in a Zone they operate. An Effect may specify a constant variance to the gamestate for that Imagineer, or may specify additional actions to be carried out once by that Imagineer when processing a Business Day (multiple instances of a given Building may change the magnitude of an Effect, but do not allow the Imagineer to take such actions more than once per Business Day). If multiple effects take place at the same step of processing a business day, they are applied in alphabetical order by building name.

In either case, add a subrule called “Fountain of Youth” to the rule “Construction” and give it the following text:

Cost: 2000
Size: 1
Effect: After the Local Accounting step but before the File Records step, the processing Imagineer may change the first senior visitor for that Business Day (if one exists) to a child.

Did somebody say Queue Manipulation?

Story Post: Requisition 1000

I’ve drawn up some plans for a Playpit in the Pirate Zone but need some funds to help build it.

The playpit would be called “Swim The Seven Seas” and would consist of a bunch of blue and green plastic funballs to make up the “water”. There would be large inflatable sharks, octopuses and other sea monsters for the kids to play with in the water, and a plank for them to “walk off”.

Add a new dynastic rule called “Smiles” and give it the following text

Each Imagineers has a integer number of Sunny Memories Instilled in the Lives of Everyday Society or SMILES (or just “Smiles”), tracked the GNDT in a column called Smiles which defaults to 0.

Add a new dynastic rule called “Construction” and give it the following text

Buildings are listed as sub rules of this rule and consist of a Name (which is the title of the subrule), a positive integer Cost, a positive integer Size, and an Affect.

An Imagineer may construct a Building in a Zone which they operate, by spending an amount of currency equal to (C + 500 * S + 1000 * X) where C is the cost of the building they wish to build, S is sum of the size of all other buildings currently in that zone, and X is the number of other Buildings which that Imagineer has constructed that day. An Imagineer may not construct more than 10 buildings per day. When an Imagineer constructs a building, they add an instance of it to the zone’s section on the [[Nomicland]] wiki page.

If there is a rule called “Visitors” add a subrule to “Construction” called “Playpit” with the following text

Cost: 1000
Size: 1
Affect: As part of the Local Accounting step, the processing Imagineer gains 1 SMILE per Playpit in a Zone they operate for each Child visitor that Business Day.

If the proposal “Like Cattle to the Laughter” has not passed, this proposal has no effect.

Reword the sentence that begins “At any time, the Boss may end one Business Day” in the rule “Visitors” to read:

At any time, the Boss may end one Business Day (if any exist) and begin a new Business Day by adding a new labeled list item to the queue, and should make a post announcing that this has been done.

Reword the list of steps for processing a Business Day in the rule “Visitors” as follows:

  1. Global Accounting: Move the Boss’s Debt toward 0 by (10 times the number of Visitors for that Business Day).
  2. Local Accounting: Move the processing Imagineer’s Debt toward 0 by (20 times the number of Visitors for that Business Day).
  3. File Records: Update the processing Imagineer’s LBD in the GNDT to the number of the Business Day thus processed.

Proposal: Like Cattle to the Laughter

Passes 6-0. Enacted by Brendan.

Adminned at 28 Apr 2016 17:04:23 UTC

Enact a new rule called “Visitors” as follows:

Time in Nomicland is tracked in Business Days, which do not necessarily correspond to real-time days. On any given Business Day, up to X Visitors may pass through Nomicland, where X is the number of Imagineers when that Business Day began. There is a queue of these Visitors, divided by Business Days, in a wiki page at [[Nomicland Visitors]].

Visitors come in four market segments: Child, Teen, Adult and Senior. These may be written in shorthand as c, t, A and S respectively.

At any time, the Boss may end one Business Day and begin the next by adding a new labeled list item to the queue, and should make a post announcing that this has been done. For example, at the start of the third Business Day, the queue might look as follows:

  1. AtSScAA
  2. ccctcS

Each Imagineer’s most recently processed Business Day is tracked as a numeric column called “LBD” in the GNDT, which defaults to the highest-numbered existing Business Day, or 0 if there are none. At any time, an Imagineer may process a Business Day, if they have not already processed that Business Day and have processed all previous Business Days. To do so, they must perform the following steps in immediate sequence, without taking any other action between them:

  1. Global Accounting: Move the Boss’s Debt toward 0 by (10 times the number of Visitors for that Business Day).
  2. Local Accounting: Move processing Imagineer’s Debt toward 0 by (20 times the number of Visitors for that Business Day).
  3. File Records: Update their LBD in the GNDT to the number of the Business Day thus processed.

Add a subrule to the rule “Budget” called “Breaking Even” as follows:

If an Imagineer would move their Debt toward 0 by a value greater than the current absolute value of their Debt, instead, their Debt is set to 0. If an Imagineer would move the Boss’s Debt toward 0 by a value greater than the current absolute value of the Boss’s Debt, instead, the Boss’s Debt is set to 0.

If the proposal “Dousing the Flames” has passed, reword the last sentence of the first paragraph of the rule “Visitors” as follows:

There is a queue of these Visitors, divided by Business Days, maintained in the wiki page at [[Nomicland]] in a page section called “Visitors.” This section does not represent a Zone.

The goal here is to make sure more and less active players get to benefit from gamewide actions, but also potentially allow canny players to manipulate the queue to their advantage.

Enact a subrule of “Budget” called “Spending”:-

When an Imagineer spends an amount of currency, they must either reduce their Budget by that amount, or increase their Debt (ie. move its value away from zero) by that amount.

An Imagineer may reduce their Budget by X to reduce their Debt by X (ie. move its value towards zero), at any time.

As a daily communal action which may only be performed on a Sunday, any Imagineer may multiply every Imagineer’s Debt by 1.1 (rounding towards zero).

If an Imagineer’s Debt is non-zero, that Imagineer may not declare victory.

Enact a new rule, “Zones”:-

The theme park is divided into a number of Zones. Each Zone has a Name (defaulting to “Construction Site”) and may be Operated by a single Idle or non-Idle Imagineer (defaulting to having no Operator). Zones are tracked in a wiki page at [[Nomicland]], with each Zone as a separate page section and any information about that zone being written within that section.

If an Imagineer Operates no Zones, they may create a Zone with a name of “The X Zone” (where “X” is any word that appears between the words “The” and “Dynasty” in the description of a single dynasty at [https://wiki.blognomic.com/index.php?title=Main_Page&oldid=2599 this version of the wiki front page], and where the name does not match that of any existing Zone), and themselves as its Operator, by updating the Nomicland wiki page to this effect.

Reproposal of “Draining the Swamps” with a fixed pool of Zone names and a fixed theme park name, since the Boss didn’t seem to object to “Nomicland”.

If the Boss made a comment on this proposal which included the phrase “It’s called X.”, where X is any word, replace “Nomicland” with that word throughout the remainder of this proposal.

Then, enact a new rule, “Zones”:-

The theme park is divided into a number of Zones. Each Zone has a Name (defaulting to “Nameless”) and may be Operated by a single Idle or non-Idle Imagineer (defaulting to having no Operator). Zones are tracked in a wiki page at [[Nomicland]], with each Zone as a separate page section and any information about that zone being written within that section.

If an Imagineer Operates no Zones, they may create a Zone with a one-word Name of their choosing, and themselves as its Operator, by updating Nomicland wiki page.

Create a new rule called “Budget” as follows:

Each Imagineer has a Budget, which is a nonnegative integer tracked in the GNDT and which defaults to 0. Each Imagineer also has Debt, which is a nonpositive integer tracked in the GNDT and which defaults to 0. Each unit of Budget or Debt represents a fictional thousand units of currency.

To obtain more Budget, an Imagineer may open Requisitions, which are Story Posts with a title like “Requisition: X” where X is an integer amount of Budget. They may use the body of such a post to explain where this Budget will go. If the Boss makes a comment on the post including the FOR voting icon, the Requisition is approved, and the Boss should immediately deduct up to X from the Boss’s Budget and add it to the Imagineer’s Budget. If the Boss makes a comment on the post including the AGAINST voting icon, the Requisition is rejected. Once the Requisition is either approved or rejected, it is closed, and no longer considered a valid Requisition.

An Imagineer may not create a Requisition if they have an existing open Requisition. If at least 24 hours have passed since a given Requisition was opened, the Imagineer who opened it may withdraw it by posting a comment to its post that includes the AGAINST voting icon. The Requisition is then closed, and no longer considered a valid Requisition.

Set the Boss’s Budget to 100,000 and the Boss’s Debt to -100,000.

I’m not going to lie to you: we’re showing up pretty late to the game here. Real estate prices are up, vacation spending is down, and kids these days would rather sit on the couch in their darn VR helmets than visit an actual amusement park. And don’t even talk to me about what it costs to license IP.

But screw all that, we’ve got the best team on the peninsula here and I don’t intend to waste it. You’ve each got your allotted parcel of land—that’s literally your job cut out for you. I want to see market research on my desk tomorrow and blueprints the day after that. Opening day is in six months, and we’ve got until then to make mountains out of this molehill. Now get to work!

Figured we needed a more challenging enemy. Regenerating health ought to do the trick. Also, difficult foes mean greater rewards! Thus. improved potions! The dexterity potion is in there despite not being a part of the creatures loot because reasons. Didn’t feel a dexterity potion really fit the theme, but it’s silly not to have a rule for it when the other two do exist.

Adminned at 23 Apr 2016 09:49:59 UTC

Repeal the rules “Trade” and “Salvage” and add a rule called “Trade, Salvage and Sacrifice” as follows:

At any time, an Orc may spend X Resources to give another Orc X-1 Resources.

An Orc may take any of the following actions by removing an Item from their Inventory. These actions may not be taken on Equipped weapons. An Orc may not simultaneously take more than one of these actions on the same Item. Performing one of these actions does not trigger any other effects that would occur as a result of removing an item from an Orc’s inventory—for example, a Potion of Strength would not raise Strength when salvaged.

  • Salvage - The Orc gains half the Crafting Cost of the removed Item, rounded down. If the Item has no Crafting Cost, it may not be salvaged.
  • Trade - Place the removed Item in another Orc’s Inventory. A single Item may not be traded more than once per day.
  • Sacrifice - The next time the Orc would take the result of a DICEX roll in the GNDT, they may treat that result as if it were up to 4 higher than it is, but not more than X. If an Orc has not made a DICE roll since the last time they sacrificed an Item, they may not sacrifice another Item.

Quorums 6-0. — Quirck

Adminned at 18 Apr 2016 12:53:10 UTC

Add a new rule called “Salvage” and give it the following text

If an item that an Orc holds has a crafting cost, the Orc that holds that item can Salvage that item to gain X resources. X is half the resources required to craft that item rounded down. Salvaging an item removes it from that Orc’s inventory. Any effects that would occur as a result of removing an item from an Orc’s inventory cannot occur as a result of salvage. For example, a Potion of Strength would not raise strength when salvaged. Equipped Weapons can’t be salvaged.

This could be useful if anyone ends up carrying say, more than one swamp sword, It does let one salvage potions though, which is a little weird. As is probably obvious, I was a bit worried that one could salvage and drink a potion at the same time. I also tried to avoid the possibility of salvaging other player’s items.

If a Weapon is not Equipped by an Orc, it has no Affect for that Orc. Only one Weapon may be Equipped by each Orc, and is marked by adding “(e)” after the Equipped weapon in that Orc’s Item list in the GNDT.

If an Orc has no weapon Equipped, they may Equip any Weapon they are holding at any time.

An Orc may Unequip any weapon they have Equipped by spending 1 AP.

If the rule “Trade” exists, then in it replace “No Orc may donate a Weapon in this way if the Orc they would give it to already holds a Weapon.” with

No Orc may donate an Equipped Weapon.

The “only hold one weapon” rule seems a bit problematic when it comes to loot distribution. For example, if I wound That Sneaky Human but don’t kill it, its unclear if the Orc that deals the killing blow has to give me the bag of gold (as I can’t get one of the weapons), or if I temporarily hold both weapons until I choose which one I want, or I just get nothing. Better to solve the issue before we get to it and just let you hold as many weapons as you want but only use one.

To the rule “Wooden Shield”, add:-

When an Orc deals damage to a Creature whose Loot contains a Wooden Shield, that damage is reduced by 1 (to a minimum of 1).

To the rule “Long Bow”, add:-

If a Creature’s Loot contains a Long Bow, that Creature has a Ranged Attack.

Remove the final paragraph of “That Grimy Kobold”.

Per comments on the last proposal, maybe it’d be interesting if Creatures could use their Loot items a bit. (It’s probably not worth fiddling around with Strength and Dexterity modifiers, though.)

Add a new rule, “Trade:”

As a Daily Action, an Orc may cease holding an item and place it in another Orc’s Inventory. No Orc may donate a Weapon in this way if the Orc they would give it to already holds a Weapon.

At any time, an Orc may spend X Resources to give another Orc X-1 Resources.

That Grimy Kobold is no more!

After Kevan took a chunk out of that Grimy Kobold, I stepped up to the plate and with one fell swing sent the That Grimy Kobold back to the Grimy Mire from which it emerged!

Kevan walked off with its shield while I grabbed the potion of strength it was holding. I then drank the potion of strength and returned to loot the corpse for its Swamp Dagger

In “Action Points”, replace “An Orc is Fatigued if their AP is less than the total of their Strength and Dexterity.” with:-

An Orc is Fatigued if their AP is less than the total of their Strength and Dexterity, and also less than 10.

Offtopic: Help

After Chrome automatically updated Tampermonkey extension, the Blognomic Utility Script stopped working on my computer. Anyone have an idea of what’s going on or what I could try to fix this? This extension is pretty neat, and I’d like to get it working again (:
I don’t have much knowledge on script code to really look at it myself.

Create a new rule “That Pesky Slime” as a subrule of “Creatures”:

That Pesky Slime’s stats are: Strength-1 Dexterity-15 Constitution-1. Its loot is a Malleable Material, a Malleable Material, and a Malleable Material. It’s Health is 25. After an Orc deals damage to this creature, as long as this creature isn’t dead, create a copy of this rule as a subrule of “Creatures”.

Create a new rule “Malleable Material” as a subrule of “Items”:

Affect: An Orc who holds a Malleable Material may cease holding it to gain 4 resources.

Comments: Back when we were more lacking in creatures, I put this rule together and forgot to post it. I’ve ended up making a couple changes since then, but it still seems fitting. If this passes, we’ll have a source of resources other than the normal action. (No one seems to want to use that action yet.) The quantity of the resources given might be a little high, but given that it only takes 1 ap to obtain resources without risk, I figured it would be good incentive. In addition, the resources probably going to be split up considerably, as who wounded the slime stays when the rule is copied.
