Proposal: DONE

Self-killed. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 05 Sep 2016 08:23:37 UTC

The Pirate chooses a random Landmark that is home to the Pirate’s Treasure. This location is tracked privately by the pirate, and may not be changed until the end of the dynasty. Create a new rule, Victory Achieved.

As a weekly action, a hunter may choose a Landmark that is known to them or is public, and make a blog post to this effect. The Pirate must respond to this by taking action 1 below if the Landmark is home to the Pirate’s Treasure, and taking action 2 below if it is not.
1. The Pirate rolls a DICE2. If the result is 2, the Hunter who made the post is Victorious. If the Dice is 1,the Pirate must tell the Hunter that they have not found the Treasure in a comment on the earlier post.
2. The Pirate rolls a DICE2. If the result is 2 or 1, the Pirate must tell the Hunter that they have not found the Treasure in a comment on the earlier post.

Can’t I just… do that?

Add a new rule, “Combat”

A Hunter may engage in Combat if an NHC (A non-Hunter ship not controlled by a human, except the Pirate) or Hunter Attacks them. An Attack may only be made where a rule clearly states as much. Upon any Hunter being engaged in Combat, the first Hunter to notice (the “Noticing Hunter) may, once, carry out the Fight. A Fight consists of the following steps, in order:
1. The noticing Hunter must multiply the Attacked Hunter’s Ship’s Cannon by 4, then subtract DICE4. Save the result (the Attacked Hunter’s “ValueA”).
2. The Noticing Hunter must multiply the NHC/Hunter that made the Attack (The Attacker)‘s Cannon by 4, then subtract DICE5. Save the result (The Attacker’s “ValueB”).
3. Compare the ValueA and ValueB. If ValueA is greater or equal to ValueB, the Attacked Hunter Wins the Fight. If ValueB is greater, the Attacker Wins the fight.
If an entity that was Engaged in a Fight has not Won said fight, they are said to have Lost.
All rules that may cause an Attack to be able to occur should be appended as Subrules to this Rule.

Leaving combat open, so people can make NPC battles. I hope this works…

To the bulleted list in “Piratical Tales”, add:-

  • A Tale of value 6 names a random interesting type of Landmark from those which appear on the Island which is home to the Pirate’s Treasure.

After “If the Pirate is Drunk when relating a Tale, all game aspects are interesting.”, add:-

If the Pirate is unable to name something because no interesting examples of it exist, then the Pirate’s Tale is instead a message to this effect.

Adminned at 30 Aug 2016 04:10:31 UTC

Append to the end of the rule, “Piratical Tales”:

A Pirate shall have 24 hours from the request to Parley to answer the Parley. After 24 hours have expired from the time of the request, the requesting Hunter may claim the Parley voided by posting on a comment on their Parley blog post stating that no further action is required by the Pirate. Upon a Parley being voided, the amount originally proposed by the hunter to be gifted to the Pirate shall be added to the Parleying Hunter’s pieces and deducted from the Pirate’s.

In “Piratical Tales”, replace “a random” with “a random interesting”, then append to the final paragraph of that rule:-

If the Pirate is Sober when relating a Tale to a Hunter, then a game aspect is only interesting if the Pirate has never named it to that Hunter before in a tale. If the Pirate is Drunk when relating a Tale, all game aspects are interesting.

The Pirate is either Drunk or Sober, and this is tracked in the following sentence. The Pirate is currently Sober. A Hunter who is located at the same Island as the Pirate may Offer Rum to the Pirate by giving the Pirate 3 Pieces and posting a blog entry to this effect: upon doing so, the Pirate becomes Drunk.

Add a subrule to “Gold”, called “Burying”:-

A Chest is an object located at an Island, containing one or more Pieces, and having one or more Keepers. Chests are tracked as a list on [[The Golden Archipelago]] wiki page.

As a daily action, a Hunter may Bury Treasure by losing X Pieces (where X is at least 1): upon doing so, a Chest is created at their current location, containing X Pieces and with a list of Keepers chosen by the Hunter. (If any other Hunters share the Hunter’s location, the list must include all of those Hunters.)

As a daily action, a Hunter may Dig Up Treasure if they are located at an Island which has a Chest of which they are one of the Keepers: upon doing so, the Hunter gains a number of Pieces equal to those in the Chest, and the Chest is removed from play.

Adminned at 23 Aug 2016 10:16:05 UTC

In “Gold”, replace “Unless otherwise specified, no Hunter may take an action that either causes their Pieces to become negative, or causes another Hunter’s pieces to become negative.” with:-

Unless otherwise specified, no Hunter may take an action that causes a Hunter’s Pieces to become negative. If an action would cause a Hunter’s Pieces to be changed to a value greater than the Hold Size of that Hunter’s Ship, that value is instead changed to be equal to the Hold Size of that Ship.

Change the Costs and Hold Sizes of the Ships to be as follows:-

  • Raft - Cost: 1, Hold Size: 5
  • Sloop - Cost: 5, Hold Size: 10
  • Brigantine - Cost: 12, Hold Size: 20
  • Barque - Cost: 25, Hold Size: 30
  • Galleon - Cost: 25, Hold Size: 40

The throwaway implication from Sci_Guy12 about Hold Size determining Pieces seems like a good use for the stat. Should probably lower the Hold Sizes and Costs of Ships to match - 500 Pieces is a huge amount.

Proposal: Treasure!

Reached quorum 6 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 21 Aug 2016 17:19:51 UTC

Add a subrule to “Islands” called “Treasure” and give it the following text

Each Island has a positive integer Treasure Rating, which ranges between 1 (meaning the island has almost no treasure) and 10 (meaning the island is abundant in treasure). The Treasure Rating for each Island is listed after each Islands entry on the Golden Archipelago wiki page.

As a Daily Action, but no more than three times during a Week, a Hunter may Raid the Island where they are located. To do so, they roll a DICE10. If the die roll is less than or equal to the Treasure Rating of that Island, they gain DICE3 pieces and reduce the Treasure Rating of the Island by 1 (to a minimum of 1)

At the start of each week, the Treasure Rating of each island increases by 1 (to a maximum of 10). A Hunter should update the Golden Archipelago wiki page to reflect this, and no hunter may perform a Raid if the Golden Archipelago wiki page has not been updated for that week.

For each Island, in order listed in the ruleset, roll a DICE4 and set Treasure Rating for that island to 3 + whatever the result of the die roll for that Island was

We need an income source. How about we sail around plundering the islands of their natural resources?

A Hunter cannot Explore or attempt to Dig at an Island if there is another Ship located at that Island with a Cannon value equal to or greater than the Hunter’s own. The Navy cannot be tipped off to a shipwreck at an Island if there is a Galleon there.

If “Live By The Spade” failed, remove “or attempt to Dig” from the created rule.

To “Exploring”, add a subrule, “Digging”:-

A Hunter may attempt to Dig at the site of a Landmark at their current location, by posting a blog entry to this effect - either naming a particular type of Landmark they intend to Dig at, or announcing an intention to Dig at random.

The Pirate should react to such an exploration by Unearthing the Spoils, if they have not done so already for that Dig, applying the following effects in sequence:-

  • If the Hunter was Digging at random, the Pirate selects a random Landmark from all those on that Island which have not already been Dug, using a method of their choosing - this becomes the selected Landmark for the dig. (If the Island has no such Landmarks, “Cave” is selected.)
  • If the selected Landmark has already been Dug at, or does not exist on that Island, then the Pirate announces this in a comment to the blog post and the remaining steps of this list are skipped for this Unearthing.
  • If the Dug Landmark on that Island is the location of the Pirate’s Treasure, then the Pirate announces this and the Hunter has achieved victory!
  • The Pirate publicly announces the Landmark that was Dug, in a comment to the blog post. If it was a Cave, the Hunter gains DICE3 Pieces. If it was a Ruins, a Highest Peak or a Skull-Shaped Rock, the Hunter gains DICE3 Pieces then loses 2 Pieces (this may cause Pieces to be negative). If it was anything else, the Hunter loses 1 Piece (this may cause Pieces to be negative).

Let’s do what we came here to do.

Proposal: Wombat,v1.5 (AKA “A little extra functionality”)

Times Out. Fails 1-3.—Clucky

Adminned at 20 Aug 2016 14:45:54 UTC

If the proposal “Combat, v1.2” fails, this preposal does nothing.
Create a new rule, “HP”.

All Hunters have a GNDT row called HP, depending on the class of their ship. If an Attacking Hunter Loses a fight, the Defending Hunter is said to have Won it. If an Attacking Hunter Wins a fight, the Defending Hunter is said to have Lost it. If a Hunter looses a Fight, they must set their HP to H-F, where H is the Losing Hunter’s current HP, and F is the Winning Hunter’s Firepower. If a Hunter Wins a fight, they must set their HP to W-(F/5) (rounding up), F being defined above, and W being the Winning Hunter’s current HP. No action may allow HP to become negative. If HP reaches 0, the Hunter whose HP it is must downgrade their ship to the next class losing any pieces that don’t fit in their new hold size. They must set the HP to the size the class of their new ship specifies. They do not get any of their ship’s cost back.

Add a subrule called “Repairs”

A Hunter may repair their Ship at the island of Safe Harbor, by spending any amount of Pieces that they possess, and adding HP to their ship at a rate of 25 HP per Piece. If any Repairs would cause a ship’s HP to become higher than its class specifies, the HP of that ship is set to the amount its class specifies.

Add the following to the subrule Raft: HP 25
Add the following to the subrule Sloop: HP 50
Add the following to the subrule Brigantine: HP 75
Add the following to the subrule Barque: HP 100
Add the following to the subrule Gallion: HP 125
Add a Rule called “Safe Harbor”

Add an Island to the Golden Archipelago, called Safe Harbor. No Hunter may ever be Engaged in a Fight while at Safe Harbor. If a Hunter has been at the Island of Safe Harbor for two days, any Hunter may move them out in accordance with the rule Sailing. The Island of Safe Harbor is located at F,F on the Map of Islands.

Optional, but I think it would add a bit of depth to the game.

Proposal: Combat, v1.2

Fewer than a quorum not voting against. Failed 1-5 by Kevan.

Adminned at 19 Aug 2016 14:17:47 UTC

Create a new rule, “Cannons”.

Each Hunter has a value called Firepower, tracked in the GNDT. A Hunter’s Firepower defaults to 15. The Pirate’s Firepower defaults to 45. A Hunter may add Firepower by Purchasing Cannons. Each cannon costs 5 Peices, and adds 10 Firepower to that Hunter’s GNDT column. (Once.) The number of Cannons a Hunter has is tracked in the GNDT.

Add a new rule, “Combat”

Add a GNDT Column, HP.  Each Hunter, as a daily action, may Engage another Hunter in a Fight. The fight consists of the attacking Hunter rolling a DICE(F/5), where F is the Attacking Hunter’s firepower, then adding the result to their Firepower. The Hunter must then roll a DICE(D/5), where D is the Defending Hunter’s firepower, then adding the result to the Defending Hunter’s firepower. If the Attacking Hunter’s result in the above section is greater, they Win the fight. If the Defending Hunter’s result is equal or greater, the Attacking Hunter Loses. If an Attacking Hunter wins, they may transfer (C/3) Peices to themself from the Defending Hunter , where C is the amount of Peices the Defending Hunter has. If the Attacking Hunter Loses, they must transfer (H/3)+2 Peices to the Defending Hunter, where H is the amount of Peices the Attacking Hunter has. Either of these may allow Pieces to become negative.

Unless the majority of EVCs on this post contain the phrase “NO, NOT THE WOMBAT!!”, Replace the title of the above rule “Combat” with “Wombat”.

I thought I’d give it a go.

Enact a new rule, “Piratical Tales”:-

A Hunter who is located at the same Island as the Pirate may Parley by posting a blog entry to this effect, and specifying how many Pieces they wish to gift to the Pirate. A single Parley post may contain multiple requests to Parley, from that Hunter.

The Pirate should react to a request to Parley by Telling a Tale, if they have not done so already for that request: upon doing so, they reduce the Hunter’s Pieces by the value specified in the post (this reduction may cause that number to become negative) and privately message the Hunter a Tale to that value, as listed below.

  • A Tale of value 1 names a random Island which is not home to the Pirate’s Treasure.
  • A Tale of value 2 names a random type of Landmark which is not home to the Pirate’s Treasure.
  • A Tale of value 3 names a random row or column of the Archipelago which is not home to the Pirate’s Treasure.

Where the Pirate makes a random decision for a Tale, they may do so using any method they wish.

Enact a subrule to “Islands” called “Bucky’s Doom”:-

The waters around Bucky’s Doom are said to be patrolled by a ghost ship, helmed by a supernatural figure known only as “Captain”. If the Pirate Describes Bucky’s Doom to a Hunter and if that description includes a Skull-Shaped Rock, and if that Hunter’s Ship has fewer than 3 Cannon, then that Hunter’s Ship is sunk in battle and its Class is changed to “Raft”.

Bucky’s Doom may never be Scouted by the Navy, as it is not on any shipping lanes and is of no strategic value.

If any Hunter Explored Bucky’s Doom between this Proposal being made and it being enacted, or gave the Navy a tip-off to Scout it, change their Ship’s Class to “Raft” and set their Pieces to zero.

Brainstorming Post

Does anyone have ideas to share about a combat mechanic?

Proposal: Crab Legs

Fewer than a quorum not voting against. Failed 1-5 by Kevan.

Adminned at 16 Aug 2016 09:01:04 UTC

Add a new rule called “The Crab” and give it the following text:

On the Island of Crab Edge resides a Giant Enemy Crab, said to hold an immense amount of riches for anyone who defeats it. Any Hunter on this island may engage the Crab in battle. Battle lasts for as long as the Hunter remains on the island, or until the Hunter’s Ship is destroyed or the Crab is defeated. Multiple Hunters may engage the Crab in battle at a time.
Once the Crab is engaged in battle, the Hunter may, as a daily action, attack the Crab by rolling (X+1)DICE20 in the GNDT, where X is equal to the amount of Cannons on their Ship. The sum of the results is the amount of damage done to the Crab. The Crab starts with 3,000 HP. The Hunter who attacks the Crab must write out how much HP it has left in a Comment when they roll for damage in the GNDT.
If a Hunter engages the Crab in battle, they must move their ship away from Crab Edge by the next day. If they remain on the Island for longer than a day, the Crab will retaliate and destroy their ship. They may purchase a new one, but will not gain three fourths of their current ship’s Cost when doing so. A Hunter may remain on Crab Edge as long as they wish, so long as they do not engage the Crab in battle - The Crab only attacks if provoked.

Add a sub rule to “The Crab” called “Appendages”, with the following text:

The Crab has three Appendages, which the Hunter may target individually, if they wish. The appendages each have HP separate from the main body. If a Hunter attacks an appendage, they must write out which appendage they are attacking and how much HP it has left in a Comment when they roll for damage. The appendages are as follows:
* the left claw, which has 100 HP.
* the right claw, which has 150 HP.
* the shell, which has 300 HP.
If an appendage’s HP is depleted to 0 or less, that appendage will be considered defeated and the Crab will the Stunned for one day, giving the Hunters more time to attack before they have to flee. The Crab can be Stunned for a total of three days, one for each appendage.
Each time a Hunter engages the Crab in battle, its Stun counter will be reset to however many appendages are defeated, unless it is already currently engaged in a battle. However, if the Crab remains outside of battle for longer than three days, its appendages will all regain full HP and will no longer be considered defeated, therefore the Crab will not be stunned.
The appendages also give out small rewards when defeated - when a Hunter defeats one of the Crab’s appendages, they may roll an 8DICE5, and increase their Pieces by that amount.

Add a sub rule to “The Crab” titled “Defeat”, with the following text:

The Crab is considered defeated after its HP reaches 0 or less. Once it is defeated, the Pirate must distribute the following:
* 100 Pieces to each Hunter that fought the Crab.
* 100 Pieces to the Hunter that dealt the final blow
* 100 Pieces to the Hunter that dealt the most damage
* 100 extra Pieces to each Hunter that fought the Crab, but only if all appendages have been defeated
After all this, the Pirate repeals this rule.

If the proposal “Used Ship Dealership” fails to pass, remove “They may purchase a new one, but will not gain three fourths of their current ship’s Cost when doing so.” from the above rule.

Reword the rule “Sailing” to the following:

As a daily action, a Hunter may set sail on the Golden Archipelago, changing their location to an Island whose distance from their current location is less than or equal to their ship’s Speed. The distance between two Islands is defined as X + Y - min(X,Y)/2, rounded down, where X and Y are the absolute differences between the two Islands’ first and second coordinates on the grid, respectively, and where min(X,Y) is the minimum value of X and Y.

“If a wiki page becomes gamestate as a result of a proposal enacting, that page shall - unless otherwise specified - be reverted to whatever state it was in at the time of that proposal’s submission (and if the page did not exist at that time, it shall be blanked).” For probity, it was this revision.

Set the Blue Vessal’s name to “The Duke’s Sapphire”. Set the Blue Vessal’s Cannon to 7. As a Daily Action the Pirate may set the Blue Vessal’s Peices to Seven. Set the Black Ship’s Location to CC. Set the Black Ship’s Pieces to 0. Set the Black Ship’s Name to “El Pollo Diablo (Galleon)”.

Create a subrule of “NPC Ships” named “The Golden Ship” with the following text:

The Golden Ship is an NPC Ship. As a Daily Action, the Pirate can change the Golden Ship’s location to any island with no Hunters on it; when they do, they must also set the Golden Ship’s Pieces to 4.

If a Hunter’s location matches the Golden Ship’s, they may Fight the Golden Ship as a Daily action. If they Win, they may transfer 4 Pieces from the Golden Ship to them.

Set the Golden Ship’s Location to AD. Set the Golden Ship’s Pieces to 4. Set the Golden Ships Name to “SIS Venturesome (Brigantine)”.

Create a new rule named “Combat” with the following text:

When a Hunter Fights another ship (be that an NPC ship or another Hunters Ship), they perform the following steps:

1: Make a comment in the GNDT of “Combat” and two rolls of DICE10.
2: Add their ship’s Cannon to the first roll.
3: Add the Cannon of the ship they are fighting to the second roll.
4: If the first roll is now higher than the second, they Win the Fight; if not, they Lose.

The effect of Winning or Losing a Fight is specified in the rule causing the Fight.

Unless the majority of EVCs on this Proposal contain the phrase “No PVP”, create a subrule of “Combat” called “PVP” with the following text.

As a Daily Action, but no more than 3 times per week, a Hunter (known as the Robbing Hunter) may attempt to rob another Hunter (known as the Victim) with the same Location. To do so, the Robbing Hunter Fights the Victim’s ship. If the Robbing Hunter Wins the Fight, they transfer 2 Pieces from the Victim to themselves.

Add a subsection to “Islands”:

Pillaging

If two or more hunters are co-located on the same island, any single hunter on the island may deduct (PILLAGE) one Piece from each of the other co-located hunters and add the sum of the Pieces to the value of the PILLAGING hunter’s Pieces. This action may occur once per day and shall be tracked in the GNDT.

Hopefully this facilitates hunter movement and serves as a basis for giving value to Pieces.

Create a new rule called “Sanity”, containing the following text:

Sailing the seven seas can take quite a toll, not just on the body, but on the mind. Every Hunter has a statistic called Sanity, which is an integer tracked in the GNDT in a column called “Sanity”. Sanity defaults to 50, and caps at 100. Unless otherwise specified, no Hunter may take any action that causes their Sanity to become negative or causes another Hunter’s Sanity to become negative.

Create a sub rule beneath Sanity called “Insanity”, containing the following text:

If a Hunter’s Sanity should reach a negative value, that Hunter is considered Insane. An Insane Hunter may not take any action outlined in the Dynastic Rules that isn’t marked as Inclusive or otherwise allows Insane Hunters to perform it.

Add another sub rule beneath Sanity, titled “Song”, containing the following text:

As a weekly action, if three or more Hunters are in the same location, even if one or more of them is Insane, they may sing a Shipmeister’s Shanty together, lifting their spirits and curing their ills. Any Insane Hunter participating in a Shipmeister’s Shanty may change their Sanity value to 0. Any Hunter who isn’t Insane may raise their Sanity by 25 after participating in a Shipmeister’s Shanty.

In the rule “Islands”, amend the section reading

Hunters shall be initially placed on an island based on the alphabetic position of first two letters of their name in the Current Active Players sidebar. Assignment shall be made on a modulo-by-5 scheme where A=0, B=1, etc. For example, Matt would be M (13%5=3) A (1%5=1) -> 3,1 -> D,B -> The Island of the Drifting Breakers; Qwerty63 would be Q (17%5=2) W (23%5=3) -> 2,3 -> C,D -> The Island of Cape Disaster.

The island on which a Hunter resides shall be tracked in the GNDT.

to read

Each Hunter is on one Island, which is said to be their location. This is tracked in the GNDT, in the column “Island”, as the Code of the Island a Hunter is on.

Hunters shall be initially placed on an Island by the following process: DICE5 is rolled, twice, in a comment to the GNDT. The first result is converted to the letter that occupies that position in the English alphabet; ie., 1 is A, 2 is B, 3 is C, 4 is D, and 5 is E. The second result is converted into a letter by the same process, and concatenated to the first; That Hunter’s location is the Island which has the resulting string as its Code.

There’s not really any need to convert a letter into a number, and then modulo it, and then convert that back to a letter, any more.

I think this is airtight; It at least doesn’t make unidling someone potentially illegal.

As a daily action, a Hunter may set sail on the Golden Archipelago, changing their location to an island whose distance from the island that Hunter is currently on is less than or equal to their ship’s Speed. The distance between two islands is defined as X + Y - min(X,Y)/2, rounded towards zero, where X and Y are the absolute differences between their first and second coordinate, respectively, and min(X,Y) the minimum of X and Y.

If the majority of EVCs on this Proposal contain the word “slowdown”, change all occurences of “min” to “max” and “minimum” to “maximum” in the new text of this rule.

As an Inclusive action, if a Hunter’s ship’s name is “Unnamed” then they may set its name to any string of two or more capital letters which appears in the “Prefix” column of a table at https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Ship_prefix&oldid=732570722, followed by a space, followed by any single single-word adjective which is listed as a synonym, antonym or related word at http://www.merriam-webster.com/thesaurus/brave.

Rename all Ships which aren’t called “Unnamed” to “Unnamed”. If any Declarations of Victory are pending that depend upon the name of a Ship, fail them.

We just enacted arbitrary text gamestate injection again - there’s now a shaky but not entirely dismissable DoV to be had on the grounds of “my ship is named the Victory, I have achieved ownership of it, I have ‘achieved victory’”. I’m fixing this rather than chancing it.

If the Proposal “X Marks the Spot” doesn’t pass, this proposal does nothing

If there is a rule called “X Marks the Spot” add the following steps directly before “The Pirate repeals the rule”

* The pirate chooses a secret English word X.
* The pirate creates a new string Y by taking X, appending the name of the island which contains the Pirate’s Treasure to the end, and appending the name of the Landmark on that island to the end of that.
* The pirate constructs Z, the SHA-256 hash of Y (either by using this tool: http://www.xorbin.com/tools/sha256-hash-calculator or an equivalent algorithm)
* The pirate appends “The code for the location of the Pirate’s Treasure is ‘Z’. Trying to determine the location from the code is against fair play” after “This is tracked privately by the Pirate.” in the rule “Landmarks” (where Z is the hash constructed above)

If there is no rule called “X Marks the Spot” add a new rule called “Back to the X” and give it the following text

At their earliest convenience, the Pirate should Complete the Map, if they have not already done so. Upon doing so, they must take the following steps in order

* The pirate chooses a secret English word X.
* The pirate creates a new string Y by taking X, appending the name of the island which contains the Pirate’s Treasure to the end, and appending the name of the Landmark on that island to the end of that.

Enact a new rule, Defences.

Any Hunter may, at any time, fortify an island. To do this, one must pay a fine of (2/3)c, where c is the size of that Hunter’s Ship’s Hold Size. (If there is a decimal, round up to the nearest whole number.) The Island is said to belong to that Hunter after such an action. A Hunter may not step on an fortified island without paying the proper tax of 1/25c Peices. The definition of c is the size of the Hunter that owns the island’s ship Hold Size. This allows a Hunter to become Ruined. If a Hunter wishes, they may Tear Down an island’s Fortifications. To do such a thing, they must wait until the owner is Offline, or they have not made a post or a comment in at least one hour. They must spend an equal amount of Peices to the Hunter that owns the Island spent when he built the Fortifications. After such an action, the Hunter that had built the Fortifications no longer owns the Island.

Add a subrule, Cannons.

A Hunter may, if they have a Fortified Island, spend 30 Peices to buy a Cannon. They may pick an Island adjacent to the Fortified island, and aim the Cannon at it. That Island is subject to 1/2 the taxes on the fortified island. A cannon may not be aims at a Fortified island. A cannon may not be put on an island that has a cannon aiming at it. If fortifications are built on an island when there is a cannon aiming at it, the cannon is immediately destroyed.

For this to be functional, we need to add a way to get Peices, and lots of them.

Enact a subrule to “Islands” called “Landmarks”:-

Each Island has zero or more Landmarks which rumours say may indicate the location of the Pirate’s Treasure. The Landmarks of each Island are tracked privately by the Pirate. Those Landmarks are:

  • The lone palm tree
  • The skull-shaped rock
  • The cave
  • The source of the river
  • The ruins
  • The highest peak
  • The shipwreck

One Landmark of one Island may be the location of the Pirate’s Treasure. This is tracked privately by the Pirate.

Enact a new rule, “X Marks the Spot”:

At any time, the Pirate may Draw The Map, if they have not already done so. Upon doing so, they must take the following steps in order:

  • For each Island, the Pirate selects three Landmarks at random. These become that Island’s Landmarks.
  • The Pirate selects an Island at random and removes a random Landmark from it (if it has any).
  • The Pirate performs the previous step nine more times.
  • The Pirate selects any Landmark on any Island. This Landmark on this Island becomes the location of the Pirate’s Treasure.
  • The Pirate repeals this rule.

All random selections made under this rule may be made using a method of the Pirate’s choosing, and should not use the GNDT dice.

It has been open for voting for at least 48 hours and cannot be Enacted.
Its target Proposal or Deliberation has been resolved.
When a Deliberation enacts, the enacting Admin shall update its target Votable Matter (if it’s still pending) to reflect the changes specified in that Deliberation.
If a Deliberation includes the word “CRUCIAL” (all caps), then its target Proposal or Deliberation cannot be failed until it has been pending for at least 48+F-A hours, where F is the number of FOR votes on the Deliberation and A is the number of AGAINST votes on the Deliberation, if F-A > 0.

A Hunter may cease to be a Hunter at any time by posting an entry to the BlogNomic weblog requesting such an action. A human who has ceased to be a Hunter in this way may not become a Hunter again within the following two weeks.

The Idle Hunter known as “Mat” shall no longer be considered a Hunter. The human who attempted to join BlogNomic as “Matt” on August 9 shall become a Hunter called “Matt”, and any illegal game actions which the human controlling that blog account has taken in the past two days which would have been legal had Matt been a Hunter shall instead be considered legal.

Matt mentioned on Slack that he used to play as Mat in the old days, but the ruleset actually doesn’t let you join again if you’re “already playing”. This clarifies that “playing” means “being a Hunter (even an idle one)”, and retroactively makes Matt a legal player.

Hello world!

Hello BlogNomic,
I have arrived and intend on becoming a player/hunter. Admins, please add me to the sidebar. Thank you.

As Requested

Can someone unidle me?

Changes to the pending-matter tracker

*CfJs should now turn red after 48 hours (previously 96).
*

The sidebar should now switch from ‘hours’ to ‘days’ when a post is 72 hours old (previously 48).  This is to assist admins trying to figure out when to process votable matters that were temporarily not open for voting.

(this second change was implemented wrong and has been reverted)

Proposal: Fiiissshhh…

Fewer than a quorum of Hunters not voting against. Failed 2-9 by Kevan.

Adminned at 10 Aug 2016 13:37:58 UTC

Create an new rule,“Hunger”, containing the following:

A Hunter has a statistic, called hunger, tracked in the GNDT. Hunger defaults to 15. Each day, a hunter must lower their Hunger by one. If Hunger reaches zero, a hunter is Starving. A Starving Hunter must not take any action that would not cause their hunger to increase. If hunger reaches a negative number, the scribe is Comatose, and cannot preform any action. Any Hunter may render a Hunter no longer Comatose by Sacrificing (1/2)|x|, where x is the negative value of a Comatose Hunter’s Hunger. The Comatose Hunter’s Hunger is immediately set to 1 and they are now no longer Comatose.

Add a subrule to this, called “Fishing”.

A Hunter may increase their hunger by Fishing. Fishing is a daily action and Inclusive. A Hunter who Fishes may increase their Hunger by two. Any rules that add a new way to gain hunger must be appended to this rule.

Probably a better way to start…

Proposal: Bootylicious

Reached quorum 12 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 10 Aug 2016 13:35:49 UTC

Add a new rule called “Gold” and give it the following text

Each Hunter has a integer number of Pieces o’ Eight, “Pieces” for short, which tracked in the GNDT in a column called “Pieces o’ Eight”. New Hunters start with 8 Pieces. The Pirate starts with 88 pieces.

Unless otherwise specified, no Hunter may take an action that either causes their Pieces to become negative, or causes another Hunter’s pieces to become negative.

Add a subrule to this rule called “Ruin” with the following text

While a Hunter’s Pieces is negative, they are considered Ruined. Ruined Hunters may not perform any action outlined in the Dynastic Rules that isn’t marked as Inclusive or otherwise explicitly allows Ruined Hunters to perform it.

A Ruined Hunter may increase their Pieces by X, where X is the minimum of: the number of days since they last became ruined; the number of days since they last performed this action; and 3. If this would cause their Pieces to become greater than 0, they are instead set to 0.

Set each Hunter’s Pieces to 8
Set the Pirate’s Pieces to 88

Proposal: Well…

Self-killed. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 10 Aug 2016 11:16:55 UTC

Create a new rule called “X”, containing

A Hunter may declare victory if they have found the Treasure.
To find the Treasure, a Hunter must collect at least 10 clues, which are tracked in the GNDT.

Let’s get this over with…

Proposal: Historian’s Request

Fewer than a quorum of players not voting against. Failed 3-7 by Kevan.

Adminned at 10 Aug 2016 11:30:14 UTC

In Rule 1.2.1, change all instances of the text “in an entry or comment from the past four days” to “in a blog entry from the past four days”,
and change the text

Admins who are unidling themselves should, in their first vote following each unidling, highlight their changed idle status and any changes to quorum to have come about as a result of it.

to

Admins who are unidling themselves must either announce in a blog post that they have done so or, in their first vote following each unidling, highlight their changed idle status and any changes to quorum to have come about as a result of it.

When trying to compile complete player lists for past dynasties, I ran into a couple of quirks trying to prove my lists were complete, namely:
* Admins can legally unidle themselves silently, not vote on anything, and not be unidled for inactivity until the next dynasty.
* Players can request idling or unidling in GNDT comments, or in comments to posts from a previous dynasty.

So in the interest of being able to tell who’s playing from reading the blog, I think we need to tighten the requirements for announcing idling or unidling.

Ascension Address: Treasure Chest

Everyone knows that pirates don’t bury treasure. Well, maybe not everyone; Somebody had to start saying that, after all—But you all know this. Some, possibly from personal experience.

But this is different. You know there’s treasure here, buried on these islands. He was practically bragging about it to anyone who would listen. Before being caught and carted off, anyways.

He just never said which.

Rename “Scribe” to “Hunter”, and “Editor” to “Pirate”, throughout the Ruleset.

Because I wanted to.

Speaking for Dynasty 141

I’ve set up the dynastic history page.  But I’d like some help collecting posts of interest, including not just proposals but also Apocryphal rule discovery posts and the notable CfJs.  And I’d appreciate it if someone less biased wrote the ascension summary.

Interdynastic Survey

For the purpose of helping future dynasties, I’d like some opinions on the current dynasty.  Specifically:
1) Do you think this dynasty was successful or unsuccessful? (or rate it 1-10)
2) Did you like the theme of this dynasty?
3) What mechanics worked well, and what mechanics didn’t?  What was your favorite mechanic?
4) If you could go back in time and fix one thing about the dynasty, what would it be?

and finally:

5) Do you prefer Scoring-style victory conditions to binary ones?

Respondents are welcome to answer only one or two questions if they don’t want to take the time to answer all of them.

Call for Judgment: Interdynastic Interference

Adminned at 07 Aug 2016 20:50:07 UTC

GIVEN that it is ambiguous whether our current dynasty’s history page is protected from change by the ruleset,
and GIVEN that it’s a traditional part of our Hiatus activities to document the passing dynasty,

BE IT RESOLVED THAT any changes to the dynastic history page of the Sixth Dynasty of Brendan during the current Hiatus are considered legal, and that any Scribe may archive a copy of the final ruleset on the Wiki.

He SCOOOOOOOOOOOORS!!!!

If a number of EVCs greater than X, where X is quorum (as defined relative currently active players), posted to this Proposal contain the phrase “Raichu should have won already”, RaichuKFM achieves victory.

Otherwise, roll DICE2. On a roll of a 1, Bucky achieves victory. On a roll of a 2, RaichuKFM achieves victory.

Enough already.

CRUCIAL

In the pending proposal “Manuscripting”, change the text “each scored three times” to “each scored exactly three times”.

Proposal: Manuscripting

Self-Killed. (Pending URGENT Deliberation does not meet F-A > 0, can fail.) -RaichuKFM

Adminned at 07 Aug 2016 06:08:19 UTC

If Bucky and RaichuKFM have each scored three times in this dynasty and neither have scored under the rule “[SPK] First Speaker”, roll a DICE2. If the result of the die rule is a 1, Bucky achieves victory. If the result of the die roll is a 2, RaichuKFM achieves victory.

Otherwise add the following text to the rule “[SPK] First Speaker” after the list of a Speaker’s duties:

A Speaker for a Dynasty may modify its page as necessary to perform their duties.

and in the same rule replace

A Speaker’s job is to ensure that the Dynasty’s page in the BlogNomic wiki contains the following information:-

with

A Speaker’s job is to ensure that the Dynasty’s page in the BlogNomic wiki (or the Manuscript for that Dynasty’s page) contains the following information:-

Stab at a fix for the problem Bucky pointed out.

The bit at the start is because there is a non zero chance that by the time this proposal passes, Brendan will have made another weekly report and Bucky will have scored. This creates an unwanted scenario where whichever of Bucky and Raichu gets on first after this proposal passes and can score under SPK will win which doesn’t seem fair to either of them.

Proposal: Expedited Vetoes

Only three Scribes are not voting AGAINST, which is less than the quorum of five; fails 1-5. -RaichuKFM

Adminned at 06 Aug 2016 15:27:54 UTC

Add the following text to the end of the rule “Resolution of Proposals”:

Replace the contents of this wiki page detailing the history of the Fourth Dynasty of scshunt with the contents of this page at the linked revision, then append “{{Dynastic Histories}}” to the end, in a new paragraph.

Something or other probably makes Dynastic History wiki pages gamestate if the Speaker rule doesn’t, so I may as well be safe about this. We don’t need a twelfth CfJ.

I was lucky enough to roll a Dynasty I knew pretty well. Not perfect work (I only had time to cache up a few pages before I had to leave the library yesterday, so the actual writeup was done without the benefit of reading comments and while offline) but not barebones hah-I-technically-fulfill-all-the-conditions, either.

My dear citizens, Larry attempted a coup earlier. While his attempt was successful, I was able to use a backdoor in the ruleset to regain my proper title. However, I realize that the power I used is not becoming to a true democracy and while it was essential that I use that power to regain control in this time of chaos, as a token of goodwill towards you all I have taken it upon myself to remove my ability to perform similar actions in the future. I hope you all understand.

Proposal: Doubly interesting historical proposals

Create this as a subrule for Ruleset Theft:

Appeals

Any Scribe may, at any time, submit a Point of Order to raise any issue relevant to the game.
A Scribe may raise a Point of Order to point out a potential error in scoring. If a player raises a Point of Order which points out an error in scoring which benefits another Scribe, the Scribe whose score was miscalculated will have the error fixed, and the Scribe who pointed out the error will receive a number of points equal to the error. A Scribe who points out an error in scoring affecting solely themselves will have the error fixed but receive no extra points for pointing out the error.
A Scribe who points out an error which causes points to be taken away from a player, the miscalculated score will be fixed, and the deducted points will be added to the score of the Scribe who noted the error.
A Scribe may use a Point of Order to point out errors in the game state which do not involve Scribe scores. If a player points out a valid non-scoring error in the game state, the player will be awarded one point.

In the rule “[VAN] Vanity”, replace the phrase “If the same Scribe is named this way in 2 consecutive weekly reports, that Scribe Scores.” with the following:

If the same Scribe is declared as having the single highest Looks in two consecutive weekly reports, that Scribe Scores.

I think we can trust Brendan to not just add in a “And Clucky scores” clause in a Weekly Report, so not actually patching that separately, but here.

Explicitly making ties (and incidental namings) not count. I’m personally against this, but I’m going to vote DEF so as not to self-kill it.

Tuesday, August 02, 2016

Call for Judgment: Do ties count?

After 48 hours, fails 2-4. Resolved by Brendan.

Adminned at 04 Aug 2016 21:45:42 UTC

The most recent weekly report contained this statement: “RaichuKFM and Bucky are tied for highest Looks.”

RaichuKFM bragged that such a statement allowed him to score under this rule: “When the Editor makes a weekly report, they must declare which Scribe has the highest Looks, or that there is a tie for highest Looks. If the same Scribe is named this way in 2 consecutive weekly reports, that Scribe Scores. “

However, the rule does not say the weekly report needs to declare which Scribes are tied; as such, the Editor’s inclusion of that information was not part of the required declaration any more than “RaichuKFM has the highest Looks and Clucky has less looks than them.” would allow Clucky to score.

Therefore, RaichuKFM has not Scored under rule 2.8 and should not have the [VAN] project.

Self-Aggrandizement

Per “[VAN] Vanity”, I have scored: “When the Editor makes a weekly report, they must declare which Scribe has the highest Looks, or that there is a tie for highest Looks. If the same Scribe is named this way in 2 consecutive weekly reports, that Scribe Scores.”

As I was named in the prior Weekly Report as the Scribe with the highest Looks, (as well as for everything else), and in the most recent one as a Scribe tied for the highest Looks with Bucky, I was named in “[that] way” in two consecutive weekly reports, and, like, totally scored?

The Weekly Report

Bucky, Larrytheturtle, Brendan, Sci_Guy12 and GenericPerson submitted Proposals last week, and have each been awarded 1 Paper.

RaichuKFM and Bucky are tied for highest Looks.

For high quality of successful Proposals last week, Bucky is named Scribe of the Week.

Bucky wins the Raffle, is awarded 1 Paper, and becomes The Cellarmaster.

When the Editor makes a weekly report, they must declare which Scribe has the highest Looks.

When the Editor makes a weekly report, they must declare which Scribe has the highest Looks, or that there is a tie for highest Looks.

The other interpretation is that the Editor gets to pick which of the Scribes with the highest Looks to declare.

Hard work pays off

I’ll bet Sci_Guy12 thought he was being sneaky spending his 1 paper for a map in the middle of a bunch of unrelated GNDT operations.  Well, he wasn’t sneaky enough.  I matched him to his rule and Scored as a result.
