Per discussion on Discord. For the historical record: thanks to the wording of Solar Panel, I now have Heat equal to 89.6 + (10% of all the Time spent by anyone in the entire dynasty, past or future), and that lead will only grow if other players attempt to assemble the same materials, giving me plenty of time to start blowing up locations with Pressure Bombs if necessary.

Getting the remaining active players to consensus on a true victory condition seems unlikely and dynastic mechanics make it pretty pointless for anyone else to try and join in and change that. lendunistus previously spotted (or created?) the scam and deserves recognition for that.

If only 1 Villager is Near Victory, they achieve victory. If multiple Villagers are Near Victory, the Villager who is Near Victory and has more Heat than any other Villager that is Near Victory achieves victory.

This does enable victory, but only if people who are able to take dynastic actions participate in the Rejected Goals mechanic. I’m deliberately not addressing ties in Heat if it should come to that. I’ll let someone else work that bit out.

In the rule Location, reword “The total Capacity of all Indoors Locations may never exceed the number of Villagers plus 2; if ever it does, the Blizzard must destroy Indoors Locations (by removing them from the table above, and setting the Locations of any Villagers in Locations thus destroyed to the Village Square) until that is no longer the case.” to:

The total Capacity of all Indoors Locations may never exceed the number of Conscious villagers minus 2; if ever it does, the Blizzard must reduce the total capacity of Indoors Locations by reducing the capacity of individual Indoors Locations of their choice until that is no longer the case. There should be a preference towards reducing the Capacity of locations that are over capacity. Any locations reduced to 0 capacity in this way are destroyed (by removing them from the table above, and setting the Locations of any Villagers in Locations thus destroyed to either a Location that had a route to the destroyed one if possible, or to the Village Square if not).

The space limits of indoors locations are a little crazy. As I’ve said in another comment, there’s 6 spaces and 7 conscious players. It’ll only get worse from here since they don’t start vanishing until we have *3* villagers in the game, and that counts unconscious ones.

We’re late in the dynasty with no VC on the books; given that metadynasties are failure states it might be time to set a fire and force a compromise.

A Recipe is a method by which Villagers can expend their existing Items to make new ones. A Recipe must have a Prerequisite and a Product. A Villager may at any time expend 10 Time and 0.5 Heat to Craft a Recipe for which they have the Prerequisites in their Items. When they do, they remove the Prerequisite from their Items and add the Product to their Items. Crafted Items never have Adjectives.

Valid recipes are as follows:

Nailed Bat:

A Villager holding this Item treats all Roughhousing Time costs as being reduced by 10, to a minimum of 1. Also has the effects of a Cudgel.

Add Nails to the list of Found Items with the (Metal, Sharp) adjective. Give the Village Square and the Makeshift Tent a 2x search multiplier for Sharp.

If a Villager’s Location is set to a Location X, then that Villager may be said to be in, at, or occupying X. Each Location may have an associated Task (defaulting to no Task) that Villagers may perform only while occupying that Location; if a Location has a Task, it must also have a listed Task Cost. To perform it, a Villager must undertake an Atomic Action with the following steps:

* Carry out the instructions in the Task

No Villager may undertake the Action associated with a Location if that Location is draughty.

Rename the columns “Actions” and “Action Cost” in the Locations table to “Task” and “Task Cost” respectively, considering each Location’s preexisting Action to be its new Task, and its preexisting Action Cost to be its new Task Cost.

I haven’t figured out the scam in it yet myself, but there’s an awful lot of wiggle room in these right now about how and when action costs get paid, what being in a Location means, and whether you can start one and then start another before finishing the first.

Taking another run at this endgame lockdown thing, which I think is worth trying. Wiring it up to switch on automatically when only three players are left standing and we have a victory condition defined.

* Stand: A Villager meets this Goal if they are not Unconscious.
* Scavenge: A Villager meets this Goal if they are holding a Metal or Electronic Item.
* Live: A Villager meets this Goal if they are not Lifeless.
* Escape: A Villager meets this Goal if they are located at the Road.
* Shelter: A Villager meets this Goal if their Location is not Outside.

Each Villager has a list of up to five Goals that they Reject, tracked publicly. A Villager may add one or more Goals to their own Reject list at any time.

The Importance of a Goal is the number of Villagers’ Reject lists that it does not appear in. The four most Important Goals (breaking ties by whichever appears earlier in the list above) are the dynasty’s Active Goals.

It might be getting too late in the dynasty to agree on a simple victory condition, so perhaps we could build one dynamically by pseudo-voting on which aspects matter. They’re intended to be listed in decreasing order of difficulty here.

Deciding who actually wins and when are left for a follow-up proposal, but I’m imagining something like “if a player meets the four Active Goals, they win”, with whatever tiebreak.

JonathanDark is Reinitialising

I am Reinitialising because I participated in Searches too many times and wasn’t paying attention to how close to Unconscious I was getting. I got stuck unable to do any meaningful dynastic actions. Even with the qkaj3NQPeWM proposal, the best I could do is Respire and keep my temperature stable, but I can’t move anything from my Stash to my Inventory to help, so there’s no sense in keeping what’s in my Stash.

SingularByte questioned the 168 hours in Respawn and I think this would run better without it. By having that deadline, you’re presenting everyone with a final use-it-or-lose-it option when the clock is nearly out: if your gamestate would be unambiguously improved as a result of resetting (even by 0.1 points), there is absolutely no reason not to hit the button.

Allowing it at any time but once per dynasty would require a decision: the cost of using it is that you can’t use it later.

For each Villager who Reinitialised while this proposal was pending, reduce their Heat by X where X is equal to 98.6 minus the rounded-down average of all other Villagers’ Heat (at the point at which they took the action).

Under the spotlight of respawning, we should probably unify new/returning/reinitialising to all come in at the same average. Currently unidling players get the average (even if they’re new to the dynasty), respawning players get the higher value, and new players’ Heat is a little ambiguous (do they get the default or are they considered to have “become unidle”, since they weren’t unidle before joining the game?).

If “Make Capacity Count” was enacted, this proposal does nothing. Otherwise:

Create a subrule of Location called Over Capacity with the text:

Whenever a Location has more villagers in it than its capacity, it is said to be Over Capacity.

If an Indoors Location is Over Capacity and it has at least one Route to an Outside Location, or has no Routes, it is considered to be Draughty for as long as it is Over Capacity, as is every Indoors Location that is directly or indirectly connected to through only Indoors Routes (where an Indoors Route is defined as any Route that is from an Indoors Location to an Indoors Location).

If an Indoors Location is Over Capacity and it has no Routes to Outside Locations but at least one Route to an Indoors Location, then for as long as it is Over Capacity, the number of Villagers by which it exceeds its capacity is added to the number of villagers in each Indoors Location it has a Route to for the purposes of working out if that Location is Over Capacity.

Replace the line “When a Villager’s Location is Outside, they lose 0.1 Heat for each unit of their Time that is spent.” in Location with

When a Villager’s Location is Outside or is Draughty, they lose 0.1 Heat for each unit of their Time that is spent.

This should be a nice and easy solution to being over capacity. If there’s too many people, the door can’t close so you let the cold air into the whole house. If too many of you are jammed into a small room inside a building, you’re considered to be milling around in the room adjacent for some of that time.

A Fight is a type of Event. The author of the post is the Instigator, the Villager who is named in the body of the post is the Target, and the Location named in the body of the post is the Destination.

There are two non-negative integer variables specific to the instance of this Event named “Attacker Time” and “Defender Time”. Attacker Time defaults to 20 and Defender Time defaults to 0.

The Creation Conditions for a Fight are all of the following:
* The Instigator’s Location must not be “Village Square” and must contain at least one Location in its Routes
* The Instigator’s Time must be greater than or equal to 20
* The body of the post contains the phrase “I pick a fight to move X to Y”, where X is the name of another Villager with the same Location as the Instigator, and Y is the name of one of the Locations in the Routes of the Instigator’s Location. The Villager “X” becomes the Target, and the Location “Y” becomes the Destination.
* No Villager’s name other than the Target is contained in the body of the post
* No Location other than the Destination is contained in the body of the post
* Neither the Instigator nor the Target are the Instigator or Target in any other Fight event at the date and time that the post is created

The Response Format for a Fight is a comment containing one of the following, but not both:
* “I spend Z Time fighting”, where Z is an integer greater than the current Attacker Time if posted by the Instigator or greater than the current Defender Time if posted by the Target, and less than or equal to the comment author’s current value of Time at the date and time of the comment. If posted by the Instigator, the Attacker Time is set to this value of Z. If posted by the Target, the Defender Time is set to this value of Z.

The Ending Condition for a Fight is one of the following:
* The most recent comment from either the Instigator or the Target is “I yield”
* The Attacker Time equals the Instigator’s current Time at the date and time of the most recent Response by the Instigator

The Ending Action for a Fight may only be performed by either the Blizzard, the Instigator, or the Target. It is an atomic action with the following steps:
* If the Attacker Time is greater than the Instigator’s Time at the time of this action, set the Attacker Time equal to the Instigator’s Time
* If the Defender Time is greater than the Target’s Time at the time of this action, set the Defender Time equal to the Target’s Time
* Subtract the Attacker Time from the Instigator’s Time
* Subtract 10% of the Attacker Time from the Instigator’s Heat
* Subtract the Defender Time from the Target’s Time
* Subtract 10% of the Defender Time from the Target’s Heat

* If the Attacker Time is greater than the Defender Time, the Target has their Location set to the Destination and loses 25 Time, to a minimum of 0. Otherwise, the Instigator has their Location set to the Destination and loses 25 Time, to a minimum of 0

Any action, except for the Ending Action of the Fight event itself, that would change the Location of the Instigator or the Target while the Fight event is Open instead does not change the Location of the Instigator or the Target.

I think this is a more interesting and participatory way to resolve the Capacity issue, but if “Make Capacity Count” is enacted, we can still have fights, Thematically, overcrowding leads to allowing cold air into a Location, which then leads to fighting. If the Capacity issue isn’t part of it, then it’s still valuable and distinct from Shove in that the Instigator is hoping to move the Target out of the Location to a specific other connected Location, with less Time and Heat cost, the trade-off being that the Target can fight back and turn the tables.

If “Survivor’s Gelt” failed, add to “Secrets and Tells”:-

Where gamestate information is described as secretly tracked, each Villager tracks that information as pertains to their own gamestate in their own Secret.

In “Items”, replace “Each Villager has a publicly tracked list of zero or more Items, defaulting to no Items.” with:-

Each Villager has a visible Inventory, which is a publicly tracked list of zero or more Items and zero or more Adjectives. Each Villager also has a Stash, which is a secretly tracked list of zero or more Items. A Villager is only considered to be holding an Item if it is present in their Inventory.

In “Searches”, replace “select a random entry from the list of Found Items. Then—if the selected entry is not Nothing—add it to that Villager’s Items” with:-

make a list of the different Adjectives that appear in Found Items and select one Adjective from that list at random. Then—if the selected Adjective is not Broken—add it to that Villager’s Inventory.

Reword the “Found Items” rule to:-

A Villager may remove an Adjective from their Inventory to move an Item with that Adjective from their Stash to their Inventory, if they can show a Secret that confirms that the Item is in their Stash, or if there is only one Item with that Adjective.

Replace “A Villager with a Thermos” with “A Villager holding a Thermos”; replace “Any time a Villager would lose any amount of Heat” with “Any time a Villager holding a Thick Jacket would lose any amount of Heat”; replace “A villager who is Outside and has Branches” with “A villager who is Outside and holding Branches”.

Seeing if this makes any sense: changing searching from “Hobson finds a Cudgel” to “Hobson finds something Bulky”, where the group only hears a vague noise or gets half a glimpse - Hobson then privately decides whether he was looking for a Jacket, Branches or a Cudgel, and notes this in his Secret, updating his Tell. The rest of the group only know that he is carrying something Bulky.

Later, when called upon to light a fire with the branches that he claimed to have recovered last week, Hobson can either reveal a relevant Secret to prove that they were branches, or (if he was lying, or wants to be cautious) decline to light a fire.

Add a new rule to the ruleset, called Usurping the Mantle:

If the game is in Interregnum then no Ascension Address may be posted, nor may the mantle be passed, until at least 24 hours have elapsed since the enactment of the most recent Declaration of Victory.

Usurping the Mantle is an action that may only be performed under the following conditions:
*The game is in interregnum
*The performer has a Secret that contains the name of exactly one other Villager
*The performer’s Secret has not been changed in the preceding 72 hours
*The Villager named in the performer’s Secret is the Villager who ascended to Blizzard as a result of the most recently enacted Declaration of Victory.

If all of these conditions are not met then Usurping the Mantle cannot be performed.

Usurping the Mantle is an action in which a Villager posts their Secret, their Jotting and their Tell in a new post to the Blognomic Blog. If, after 24 hours of interregnum, a single Villager has legally Usurped the Mantle, then that Villager becomes Blizzard and all other Blizzards cease to be Blizzard. If, during an interregnum, multiple Villagers attempt to Usurp the Mantle then no Villagers Usurp the Mantle and the status of Blizzard is unchanged. Otherwise, the current Blizzard remains Blizzard.

Proposal: How much pork can a pork shed hold?

In the Rule “Location”, add the following paragraph after the paragraph that begins with “Each Location has a Capacity”:

Each Location has an Action, which is blank by default, but when it is not blank must contain the description of an action that can be taken, followed by a non-negative integer in square brackets, referred to as the Cost of that Action. Any Villager in that Location may spend that Cost in Time, then perform the Action specified for that Location.

In the Rule “Location”, set the Action for the Pork Curing Shed to:

If the Villager has 1 or more Meat in their Items, remove 1 Meat and add 5 to the Villager’s Heat from curing the Meat, cooking it, and eating it [10]

In the Rule “Items” add a subrule titled “Meat” and give it the following text:

A Villager who has at least 1 Meat can spend 5 units of Time to remove 1 Meat from their Items and gain 1 Heat from eating the raw meat

Giving us something to do with the Locations besides avoiding being Outside. The pork curing shed improves the benefits of Meat.

Each non-Outside Location has a Wealth, which is the total amount of Gelt held by Villagers in that location. The Wealth of each Location is not tracked, and can only be derived from the Secrets of the Villagers occupying that Location.

Add a new rule to the ruleset as a subrule to the rule Searches, called Scraping:

Scraping is a type of Search which can only be carried out in an Outside Location. A Search is a Scraping if its title contains the word ‘Scraping’. Starting or joining a Scrape costs 20 Time, and both starting and joining a Scrape my only be done by Villagers whose Locations are Outside; any Villager who is party to an open Scrape may not change their Location.

If the EVC of the Blizzard contains the text “no problem”, add the following to the end of the rule Gelt:

Within 24 hours of the closure of any Scrape, the Blizzard should secretly randomly generate a number between 1 and 3 inclusive for each of of its participants. Any participant for whom the result is a 1 also finds a Gelt; the Blizzard should directly communicate with them to relay that fact.

At any time, a Villager may Huddle by spending 3 Time to transfer 0.1 Heat from the Villager with the most Heat in their Location to themselves, if they are not the Villager with the most Heat in their Location.

A Cold Villager must treat all Routes as if they had a Length of 2 higher, as they are too cold to move effectively.
An Unconscious Villager may not take any dynastic actions except for Huddling, unless they are also Lifeless. When they Huddle, they may spend only 1 Time instead of 3, as their frozen body absorbs heat much more effectively.
A Lifeless Villager may not take any dynastic actions.

Heat tends to flow from hot to cold. Also, no more walking around while Unconscious/Lifeless, though Huddling gets a lot more effective when Unconscious to make it difficult to die (at least for now, maybe this should be changed closer to endgame).

Thermos:

Each thermos has a publicly tracked non-negative integer value called its Heat, defaulting to 50. A Villager with a Thermos may Make Tea: they pay an amount of Heat from a thermos they are holding to increase the Heat of any villager in the same room as them by that amount. A Villager is permitted to target themselves with that action. If a Villager has targetted a Villager with this action, they may not do so again to that same Villager within 24 hours.

Thick Jacket:

Any time a Villager would lose any amount of Heat, they lose half that amount instead. (This item has no effect if it would reduce the heat loss to zero.)

Branches:

A villager who is Outside and has Branches may Start a Fire: They destroy the branches, and increase the Heat of everyone outside by 10. Any thermos being held by any villagers outside have their heat increased by 20.

Cudgel:

If a villager is holding a Cudgel, they are not a valid target for Roughhousing actions, unless the villager performing that action also has a cudgel.

Replace the final bullet point in Searches with

for each Villager who joined the Search that is being ended, if that Villager is Outside: Reduce their time by 20. If their time was successfully reduced by 20, select a random entry from the list of Found Items. Then—if the selected entry is not Nothing—add it to that Villager’s Items.

Enact a new rule, “Secrets and Tells”:-

Each Villager has a Secret, being a text string tracked privately by themselves. Each Villager has a publicly tracked Tell, which may be a text string or blank.

The hash of a string is defined as the MD5 output for that string at https://www.md5hashgenerator.com

Whenever a Villager changes their Secret, they must privately note down a string that consists of their Secret plus any number of words which do not appear in the ruleset (this string being known as their Jotting), and update their Tell to be the hash of that Jotting.

Villagers are recommended to maintain a private record of their Jottings over the course of the game, in case a later rule requires them to prove what their Secret was at a particular point in the game history.

Testing the waters for a secret information hash system, given the Casual Imperial Style, to perhaps tie into which items players are secretly carrying. But I know past dynasties have had players who aren’t comfortable with the idea of using hashes.

The Alien modifies Time and Heat as if they are a Villager.
Whenever the Alien would lose Heat; if there are Villagers who has the same Location variable with the Alien they must choose a random Villager with the Location variable the same as the Alien and they lose Heat instead.
Whenever there exists no Villager who have a positive Heat and the Alien have a Heat that is positive; repeal all dynastic rules, fail all Pending Proposals and start a new Dynasty with the name “The Second Dynasty of the Alien”.

Putting the location information in a table rather than subrules to cut down on ruleset bloat, and setting up a dynamic by which there is limited indoor space that must be jockeyed for.

Create a new dynastic rule, titled “Time”:

Every Villager has a publicly tracked non-negative integer amount of Time. Any attempt to change a Villager’s Time to a value above 60 instead sets it to 60, and the excess Time is considered to be spent by that Villager on nothing. At any time, a Villager may spend any amount of Time on nothing.

At any time, any Villager or the Blizzard may Pass the Time by performing the following atomic action:
* Increase the Time of every Villager by one for every time the real-life hour has changed since this action was last performed.

The date and time of the last Pass the Time action to be performed is publicly tracked.

Create a new dynastic rule, titled “Heat”:

Every Villager has a publicly tracked integer amount of Heat which may be negative and defaults to 100. Any attempt to change a Villager’s Heat to a value above 100 instead sets it to 100.

When a Villager becomes Unidle, their Heat is set to the average of all other Villagers’ Heat rounded down, unless the last legally endowed value it held is lower in which case the Villager retains the lower value.

A Villager with Heat below 0 is considered Frozen.

Creating Time, the primary cost for actions in the dynasty, and Heat. The intent is for it to get harder and harder to gain Heat over time, so the total Heat among all Villagers slowly trends downwards.

It’s starting to seem like the snow is never going to end… the power went out a month ago, and I have a feeling it’s not coming back on again. We should be in the middle of summer right now, and yet here we are slowly freezing to death. My fellow villagers and I have been reduced to spending our days huddling around the fire. We’re down to our last pallet of wood. I can only hope this ends before one of us has to endure this apparently infinite blizzard to go cut some more.

Repeal all dynastic rules.
The theme for the dynasty shall be “Snowed In”.
Change the gamestate tracking page to “Quiet Village”.
Change the synonym for Player to “Villager” and the synonym for Emperor to “Blizzard”.

In the rule “Buildings”, change the effect of the Library Building to read:

As a Harvest Bonus, the owner of this building may apply the Harvest Bonuses of any two other buildings in your Settlement once. This does not count towards any limits on Harvest Bonuses you can take, and may be done in addition to the one time you would normally be able to activate the Harvest Bonuses of a building you control.

If any Settlers triggered the Effect of the Library in such a way that it would be illegal under this revised wording, revert the effects that resulted from those Settlers triggering it.

Reword the rule “The Dice Deck” to the following:

The Dice Deck is a publicly-tracked list of numbers, and is empty by default.

The Production of Resources is an atomic action with the following steps:

* If the Dice Deck contains fewer than 4 different numbers, or if it contains less than 6 numbers in total, set the list to the following list of numbers: 2, 3, 3, 4, 4, 4, 5, 5, 5, 5, 6, 6, 6, 6, 6, 7, 7, 7, 7, 7, 7, 8, 8, 8, 8, 8, 9, 9, 9, 9, 10, 10, 10, 11, 11 and 12.
* Remove an element at random from the Dice Deck: its number is the first result of this action
* Remove another element at random from the Dice Deck (skipping those where the number is the same as the first result): its number is the second result of this action
* Remove another element at random from the Dice Deck (skipping those where the number is the same as the first result): its number is the third result of this action
* Clear all names from the Injured list. Then, if the current Visitor is the Corsair, carry out the Corsair Landing atomic action.
* If either of the first two results of this action are a 7, set the Visitor to be the Visitor (if any) who has the third result of this action as their Fanfare, or “None” if no Visitor has the other result of this action as their Fanfare. If no results are a 7, set the Visitor to “None”. If this step results in the Visitor value changing, the Ledger is emptied.
* If the first result of this action is not a 6, 7, or 8, set the Weather to be the Weather (if any) which has the second result of this action as its Forecast, or “None” if no Weather has the second result of this action as its Forecast number. If the first result of this action is a 6, 7, or 8, set the current Weather to “None”.

Reword the second sentence of the the rule “The Gift of the Isle” to the following:

Reword the the first bullet point in the Harvesting the Crop atomic action to the following, in the rule “The Gift of the Isle”:

* For all Domains they have where the number matches any of the results from the Production of Resources, they gain an amount of the resource associated with that domain to their Stockpile equal to the Payoff for the number for that domain, defaulting to a single resource if it’s not otherwise defined.

Adding a third production die to up the speed of the game a bit. The majority of changes here are just keeping grammar consistent.

* Any Settler with four Cones of different Factions in their Settlement is a Suzerain.
* If, at the conclusion of the most recent Production of Resources action, there was a single Suzerain then then that Suzerain has achieved Victory, and no other Settler may become Suzerain.
* If there is more than one Suzerain then the Suzerain with the most Iron has achieved Victory, all other Suzerains cease to be Suzerains, and no other Settler may become Suzerain.
* If two or more Suzerains are tied for the most Iron then the tied Suzerain with the smallest sum total of other non-Iron Items in their Stockpile has achieved Victory, all other Suzerains cease to be Suzerains, and no other Settler may become Suzerain.

Avoiding timing clashes at the end.

Proposal: The Means of Production

In the rule “Basic Mechanics” add the following text:

Each Settler has a publicly tracked text variable called Ready which has two valid values, empty and “yes”, defaulting to empty. Each Settler may set their own Ready variable to “yes” or empty at any time.

In the rule “The Gift of the Isle” replace this text:

If they have not done so in the past 36 hours, the Onlooker may perform a Production of Resources.

with this text:

If they have not done so in the past 36 hours, or if all Settlers have their Ready variable set to “yes”, the Onlooker may perform a Production of Resources.

In the rule “The Dice Deck”, add the following bullet to the end of the list:

* Set all Settlers’ Ready variables to empty

While we’re figuring out a faster way to reach the end, let’s allow the Settlers to set the pace of each Production of Resources. If the Settlers are ready for the next PoR sooner, they can indicate this with the new Ready mechanism in this Proposal. Thus, the PoR can happen faster than every 36 hours, but won’t if any one Settler is too busy to have the PoR happen sooner.

When the Dynastic Rules are described as being under or in an Endgame Lockdown, no Proposals can be made that add to, remove or change their contents.



Enact another Dynastic Rule named Homestretch:

This Dynasty is in a Dynasty Lockdown.

Retrying that idea from Kevan; let’s see making it in the Dynastic Ruleset to test is a good idea
