Proposal: I can see clearly now

Reached quorum 4 votes to 1. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 02 Oct 2019 17:39:27 UTC

Repeal the paragraphs of the rule “Hallucinations” that begin “If a proposal has the tag…” and “A rule repealed by a Hallucinations proposal…”

I regret losing my nerve over killing off Hallucinations when I had the chance. The fact is, we’ve seen this retroactive minority-veto mechanism before: it was a source of tremendous power for the traitors (Josh and myself) back in Kevan XIII. It turned out to be a much more valuable tool for us than any other traitor-specific abilities, but more importantly, it’s likely to lead to people getting frustrated over crafting rules and cajoling them through a vote just to see them vaporized. That in turn means fewer proposals and less fun.

For what it’s worth, traitor-reading-this, I am going to come up with some consolation bonuses for you in a separate proposal.

Proposal: Berry Sad [Hallucination]

Fewer than a quorum not voting AGAINST. Failed 1-3 by Kevan.

Adminned at 02 Oct 2019 17:37:41 UTC

Repeal the rule “The Clearing.”

You had looked around the clearing, like you were just dying to eat, when the hour that had passed struck. You were just starved, until you stopped hallucinating the ravenous feeling you had. As your hunger rapidly faded and you stopped hallucinating, the rocky clearing started to turn into just another patch of sand, with tree leaves being the source of food you thought was just so delicious.

Cspean heraldry

In light of some troubling omens, I (informally) propose lifting the spirits of… Cspe Key by adopting a motto:

A word tile is a single word surrounded by square brackets contained in a comment on this post. I will propose formally adopting the concatenation of all word tiles as the motto, when we hit a good breaking point or word tiles dry up or a general consensus seems to be reached on the end.

Proposal: Mountain Giants

Timed out 3 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 02 Oct 2019 17:35:57 UTC

Increase the HSR and the Story Points of each Castaway by 2.

It’s a bright, sunny day. You hear a sudden rumbling coming from the mountain, like a group of giants fighting. Has anyone actually been up there?

Proposal: Weak foundations [Hallucination]

Self-killed. Failed by pokes.

Adminned at 01 Oct 2019 23:20:35 UTC

Repeal the rule “Construction”.

Help. Perfect.”, I muttered under my breath while completing my massive pile of seaweed. A few crabs scurry out of the pile, and in time the ocean washes the rest away.

Proposal: Continued On Next Beach

Fewer than quorum not voting against, 1-4. Failed by pokes.

Adminned at 01 Oct 2019 23:15:22 UTC

Remove all instances of “(and can’t be added to)” from the rule “Construction”.

Proposal: Bad Dreams

Fewer than quorum not voting against, 1-4. Failed by pokes.

Adminned at 01 Oct 2019 23:14:27 UTC

Remove “If there is a Traitor, the Traitor may choose to use their recorded GNDT score for HSR, or use an HSR of 7, when they take actions under the Dynastic Rules. Exactly once this Dynasty, the Traitor may set their HSR to 0; doing so is permitted for the Traitor regardless of the Complexity of this rule.” from the ruleset.

Story Post: Troubling Omens

Last night you had a dream. (Or was it last hallucination?) You saw a totem pole on the island, with each of the Castaways faces on it, except one, you don’t remember whose. Instead, in that position appeared a terrifying totem spirit. The wooden face had angry slanted eyebrows, over dark brown wooden eyes, looking right at you! You awoke in a sweat, with a sudden realization: someone on this Island has it in for you.

The Traitor has been chosen, and is an active player.

Little Mac’s face was there, too, but on a totem pole somehow separate from yours. He was crying to you pitifully for you to help find him. But that was just before the dream transitioned to one of your croissant and danish fantasies, and your inner eye stopped paying direct attention.

Proposal: Misguided motivations

Fewer than a quorum not voting against. Failed 1 vote to 4 by Kevan.

Adminned at 30 Sep 2019 10:00:37 UTC

In “Motivations”, remove all bullet points starting with “Worship” and “Paranoia”.
Change all mentions of “set Motivation to Paranoid” in the ruleset to “gain the Obsession Paranoia”, and all mentions of “have their Motivation changed to Paranoia” to “gain an Obsession Paranoia”.
In “Motivations”, create a subrule titled “Obsessions” with the following rule text:

Obsessions are tracked with a Castaway’s Motivation in a comma-separated list. A Castaway may not have an Obsession when their HSR is under 3, unless a rule specifies otherwise. When a Castaway has an HSR greater than 3, they gain an Obsession, and when a Castaway has an HSR greater than 5, they gain another Obsession. Obsessions gained default to Uneasy. Each Obsession gives features while the Castaway has that Obsession, which are listed below:

  • Uneasy - You feel off. The Castaway with this Obsession may change this Obsession within 72 hours. If the Castaway does not, this Obsession changes to the first Obsession on this list the Castaway does not have, excluding this one (unless the Castaway has all other Obsessions).
  • Paranoia - You desperately want to avoid the rest of the group. A Castaway with this Obsession may not change their Location to a Location which contains another Castaway.
  • Worship - Your goal is to praise the glowing thing on the mountain. A Castaway with the Motivation of Worship may consider all dynastic rules to have a Complexity of 7. This Obsession is only available to Castaways on the Mountain.

Proposal: Found a Ouija board in the wreck

Reached quorum 4 votes to 2. Enacted by Kevan. Comments in the form “[•]” were “c”, “s”, “p” and “e” - I think a “comment” has to be an entire blog comment rather than any substring of it.

Adminned at 30 Sep 2019 09:59:47 UTC

In “The Island”, replace “The Island is a strange and largely unexplored place.” with “The Island, named Windfall Key by the Castaways, is a strange and largely unexplored place.”

A letter tile is a comment on this proposal of the form “[•]”, where • is a single letter. If a quorum of comments on this proposal contain a letter tile, the letters contained within the brackets of all letter tiles, concatenated in the order of their posting, is the New Name. If the New Name is not an English word (defined as appearing in any edition of Webster’s Dictionary) and is less than 16 letters long, replace Windfall in the above text with the New Name, with the first letter capitalized and the rest lower-case.

Proposal: Truecon [Hallucination]

Times out / reaches quorum, 5 (3 + 2 hallucinators) to 2. Enacted by pokes.

Adminned at 29 Sep 2019 23:53:26 UTC

Repeal the rule “Hunger.”

Oh, wait, we’ve actually only been here an hour.

Proposal: I don’t wanna waaaste my time

Times out / reaches quorum, 5-1. Enacted by pokes.

Adminned at 29 Sep 2019 23:50:26 UTC

Create a new rule entitled “Revelation” as follows:

The Weatherman must, at their earliest opportunity after the passage of the proposal “I don’t wanna waaaste my time,” create a new Story Post stating unambiguously whether there is a Traitor currently active among the Castaways.

If there are no EVCs on that proposal that are AGAINST or DEFERENTIAL, this Story Post should also include the identity of the Traitor, if there is one.

Proposal: Amid the Breakers

Reaches quorum, 6-0. Enacted by pokes.

Adminned at 29 Sep 2019 11:27:52 UTC

In “Story Points”, replace “the Castaway(s) with the most Story Points has(have) achieved victory.” with:-

the single Castaway with the most Story Points has achieved victory. (If tied, ties are broken by lowest HSR, then lowest Hunger, then lowest Date, then most Wood, in that order. If still tied after that, nobody has achieved victory.)

We should always have a tiebreaker.

Basketball on a Stick

Axemabaro idles out automatically after eight days without a blog post or comment. Quorum drops to 4.

Call for Judgment: Lost Within A Lost

Fewer than quorum not voting AGAINST. Failed 0-4 by Kevan.

Adminned at 26 Sep 2019 19:13:16 UTC

Remove “Kevan” from the list of Castaways at the Clearing. Decrease the Date of the Castaway named Kevan by 1.

“As a Date Action, a Castaway may remove their name from a list in a Location to add their name to a list in the last paragraph of a different Location.” But Kevan’s name was not in any Location list when he moved to the Clearing today, as “The Jungle” was repealed yesterday, and the phrasing of this rule makes it clear that removal is a prerequisite to addition.

Proposal: TGI Friday

Times out / reaches quorum, 4-1. Enacted by pokes.

Adminned at 29 Sep 2019 11:26:31 UTC

In “Mac’s Cave”, replace “If they have not done so in the last 72 hours, a Castaway in Mac’s Cave may take a Date Action without increasing their Date.” with:-

A Castaway in Mac’s Cave may take Date Actions as if their own Location was any Location on the Island. When performing a Date Action in this way they may choose to ignore any increase in Hunger or HSR from it.

Replacing the arbitrary 72 hour countdown with an inversion of Mac’s Epiphany effect: if you befriend Mac, you can send him to perform tasks in any other part of the Island.

Call for Judgment: Gimme Poker

Timed out 2 votes to 2. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 28 Sep 2019 09:16:28 UTC

Increase the HSR of the Castaway named pokes by 2, decrease their Date by 2, and increase their Wood by 2.

pokes interprets the rule about shelter construction to mean that even with “Items” repealed, if the record of construction is in the GNDT log, then the shelter has been successfully constructed and can be used. I think that’s interesting and novel, but I think the GNDT comments aside from dice results are not gamestate, and that if a shelter cannot be “recorded in their Items” per the rule text then it cannot be constructed at all. Let’s vote.

Proposal: Or maybe you all like it here?

Reaches quorum, 5-0. Enacted by pokes.

Adminned at 26 Sep 2019 23:00:16 UTC

Change “Story Points” to read:

Each Castaway has a number of Story Points, tracked in the GNDT as SP, and defaulting to zero. They represent your potential for book-selling fame and fortune upon your unlikely return to civilization.

When the Castaways are rescued, each Castaway with 1 or more Story Points gains a randomly selected number of Story Points, between 1 and their total, inclusive. (Some can tell it, some can’t.) Once this has happened for each Castaway, the Castaway(s) with the most Story Points has(have) achieved victory.

Create a subrule to “Story Points” named “A Ship has Arrived!”, as follows:

If all of the following conditions are concurrently met, a ship has spotted signs of the Castaways and arrived to safely rescue them:
*The Message in the Sand is completed.
*The Giant Bonfire is completed.
*The rule “The Island” has seven or more subrules.
*Today is 40 or higher.
*At least a quorum of Castaways are at The Beach.

The Weatherman may remove one of these conditions, selected at random, as a weekly action (once each week).

This subrule cannot be repealed by a Hallucinations Proposal. But just in case, when this subrule is Epiphanized, a copy of it is created under it’s parent rule, with an extra ‘!’ added to the name.

I like a nondeterministic win condition, but I am still willing to vote for alternatives later.

I figure you shouldn’t be able to hallucinate away what is merely a future possibility in the first place.

Proposal: The Meta-story

Reaches quorum, 5-0. Enacted by pokes.

Adminned at 26 Sep 2019 22:59:46 UTC

Add to “Story Points” the following paragraph:

When this Rule is Epiphanised: if the number 3 is positive, a new Rule with the same title is created. This rule has the same text as this rule, except that the number earlier in this paragraph is decreased by one. All Castaways’ Story Points are increased by 25%, rounding down.

At least we have our stories, deranged as they may be.

Proposal: Lean-To Cleanup

Reached quorum 5 votes to 1. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 26 Sep 2019 17:42:23 UTC

Remove the bullet that begins “Rest in their shelter…” from the rule “Workdays.”

Reword the bullet under the rule “Construction” that reads “A level X shelter…” to read as follows:

  • A level X shelter, costing X wood, where X is (10 - the Castaway’s HSR). Constructing a shelter reduces the Castaway’s HSR by 1.

Proposal: Flexitaria

Reached quorum 7 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 26 Sep 2019 09:19:44 UTC

Add a subrule to “The Island” called “The Clearing”:-

A rocky patch of ground some way back from the beach, where the trees thin out.

The following Plants grow in the Clearing, with effects as described:-

* Purple Fruit: Effect unknown.
* Yellow Berry: Effect unknown.
* Blue Flower: Effect unknown.
* Orange Leaf: Effect unknown.
* Red Cap: Effect unknown.
* Silver Bark: Effect unknown.

A Castaway in the Clearing may take a Date Action to Forage a Plant that grows there, applying its effect to themselves. (If the effect of a Plant is defined as unknown at the time of Foraging, the Castaway must choose a random effect from the list of effects below, apply it to themselves, and update this rule replacing “Effect unknown.” for the Foraged Plant with the randomly chosen effect.) Any Plant Effect that reduces Hunger reduces it to a minimum of zero.

A Castaway in the Clearing may take a Date Action to Uproot a Plant that grows there, removing it from the list above. If only one Plant remains on the list it may not be Uprooted.

Effects are:-

* Lose 1 Hunger.
* Lose 1 Hunger and gain 1 HSR.
* Lose 1 Hunger and set Date to Today.
* Lose 1 Hunger and set Motivation to Paranoid.
* Lose 1 Hunger and set Motivation to None.
* No effect.

Proposal: Facon [Hallucination]

Reached hallucinatory quorum 7 votes to 1. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 25 Sep 2019 21:40:30 UTC

Repeal the rule “The Jungle”.

After glimpsing some creature in the undergrowth and calling to my companions to hunt it down, Thunder disappeared after it into the bracken. They returned some time later looking a little bruised and dazed, proudly claiming to have “shared the meat” of a wild pig with another castaway, and to no longer feel hungry. They had nothing to show for this, and no apology or explanation for why I - the only castaway to have stopped hallucinating - had been left out of this supposed feast.

Casting my mind back to my first meal on the island, taken in the haze of heatstroke shortly after the wreck, I began to wonder where this talk of wild, gaudily-coloured pigs had come from, and whether these creatures existed at all.

More hunting

It seems like more people are unambiguously stating they will hunt for Wild Gaudy pigs, so I will too.

Story Post: We are the people that can find whatever you may need

I hereby indicate that I am going hunting.

Going Hunting

To “Mac’s Cave”, add a paragraph before the last:-

If this rule is Epiphanised, then Mac either never survived the wreck, or has now taken somebody’s place: all Castaways located at Mac’s Cave have their Motivation changed to Paranoia.

Add a Motivation to the list in the rule “Motivation”:-

* Paranoia - Your primary goal is to avoid the rest of the group. A Castaway with this Motivation may not change their Location to a Location which contains another Castaway.

Castaways here:

Add a Motivation to the list in the rule “Motivation”.

* Worship - Your primary goal is to praise the glowing thing on the mountain. A Castaway may only adopt this Motivation if they are at The Mountain and have an HSR of 3 or higher. A Castaway with the Motivation of Worship may consider all dynastic rules to have a Complexity of 7.

Little Mac was separated from the other explorers during the shipwreck, and has been hiding out in a well-concealed cave on the island. He refuses to rejoin the group, but will assist those who visit him.

A Castaway may only add their name to the list in this rule if they have found Little Mac.

If they have not done so in the last 72 hours, a Castaway in Mac’s Cave may take a Date Action without increasing their Date.

Adminned at 21 Sep 2019 20:12:14 UTC

In “Hallucinations”, replace “the repeal of a single dynastic rule which has no subrules” with “the repeal of a single dynastic rule which has no subrules (and/or the removal of a single bullet point)”.

Allows the lucid cleanup of a related action in a different rule (eg. Little Mac), and looking over the ruleset it’d also be safe to remove bullet points in isolation.

Proposal: Everyone’s trash

Timed out 1 vote to 4. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 20 Sep 2019 21:20:29 UTC

Repeal the rule “Motivation.”

Add a subrule called “Illusions” to the rule “Hallucinations” as follows:

Each Castaway may have a single Illusion, or no Illusion, defaulting to the latter, which is tracked in the GNDT. If a Castaway has no Illusion, then they may, as a Date Action, set it to one of the Illusions listed in this rule, but only if no other Castaway already has that Illusion. Each Illusion has a name, bolded in the following list, and an effect, italicized immediately after its name. Once a Castaway has a given Illusion, they may take advantage of its effect, but only if they do not have—and are not tied for—the lowest HSR among all Castaways.

  • Machete-Shaped Stick Whenever gathering Wood, gain an additional 1 Wood.
  • Spyglass-Shaped Bamboo When taking the Date Action “Search for Little Mac,” successfully find Little Mac on a roll of 18-20 instead of only 20.
  • Axe-Shaped Rock When spending Wood to add to the Giant Bonfire, receive 2 Story Points instead of 1 Story Point per 5 Wood spent.
  • Knife-Shaped Rock When another Castaway successfully hunts on a hunt that this Castaway has arranged, this Castaway must be included in the set of those whose Hunger is thereby decreased.
  • Featherbed-Shaped Pit When taking a Date Action to Rest at the Beach, reset one’s own HSR to 4 instead of 5.
  • Figurehead-Shaped Tree Immediately after setting their Illusion to Figurehead-Shaped Tree, the Castaway doing so may also increase their Wood by 10, once only.
  • Cake-Shaped Coconut Immediately after setting their Illusion to Cake-Shaped Coconut, the Castaway doing so may set their Hunger to 0, once only.
  • Calendar-Shaped Leaves Immediately after setting their Illusion to Calendar-Shaped Leaves, the Castaway doing so may also decrease their Date by 3, once only.

Set the Illusion of the Castaway named Brendan to “Machete-Shaped Stick” and the Illusion of the Castaway named Thunder to “Knife-Shaped Rock.”

Replace the first paragraph of “Complexity” with:-

The Complexity of a Dynastic Rule is equal to the number of bullet points in that rule; if the rule has no bullet points, its Complexity is instead 1.

If it exists in “The Island” rule, replace “(For this purpose, a list starts with a colon ‘:’ symbol, and may be empty.)” with:-

(For this purpose, such lists must be bulleted lists if not empty.)

Convert the lists of Castaways in subrules of “The Island” into bulleted lists.

Convert the list of Items into a bulleted list.

If a rule called “Motivation” exists, convert its list of goals into a bulleted list.

Given the haziness of “paragraphs but not lists” (is that three-line sentence about Signalling in the previous proposal a paragraph, or part of a list? Or is the whole rule one paragraph, since it has no breaks between the lines? Or zero paragraphs, if it’s one paragraph that contains a list? Is the sentence “the castaways named X, Y, Z are here” a list?), maybe we should measure something that can be counted unambiguously, and at a glance.

Adminned at 15 Sep 2019 19:58:03 UTC

Create a new rule titled “Motivation”:

Each Castaway has a Motivation, defaulting to None and tracked in the GNDT. At any point, a Castaway may change their goal from any Motivation to a different Motivation. This causes their HSR to raise by one. Each goal gives some benefits while the Castaway has that goal, as listed below:
None - You may ignore the HSR increase when changing a Motivation from None to a different Motivation.
Survivalist - Your primary goal is to survive on the island. You require one less Wood to construct a shelter.
Signaler - Your primary goal is to escape the island. Every time you spend Wood on the Message in the Sand or the Giant Bonfire, it counts as 50% more wood (rounded down) for gaining Story Points and for gaining progress towards completing the Message in the Sand or Giant Bonfire.

Remove the following bullet from “Workdays”:
“*Explore the island, choosing an exploration event at random, and increasing their Date by an extra 2 for time spent returning. (See Exploration)”

Add the following to “The Island”:

A Castaway is at a Location if their name is listed in the last paragraph of that subrule. As a Date Action, a Castaway may remove their name from a list in a Location to add their name to a list in the last paragraph of a different Location. (For this purpose, a list starts with a colon ‘:’ symbol, and may be empty.)

Change the last paragraph of “The Beach” to:

Castaways here: Brendan, Kevan, pokes, Quincunx, Thunder, ubq323

In “The Wreck”, change “Survivors may, as a Date Action,” to:

Survivors at The Wreck may, as a Date Action,

To “The Wreck”, append the following paragraph:

Castaways here:

I don’t mind using the rules to host location data. Frees a slot in the GNDT, at the least.

Also, adding a paragraph to The Island seems like a good idea, to make it’s subrules easier to use. (Though The Beach is still useless right now.)

Add to the rule “Workdays” the following:

As a Daily Action, a Castaway with an HSR of less than 7 may exert themselves, taking a Date Action as described above, but increasing their HSR by 1 instead of increasing their Date.

If a Castaway is at the Beach and has an HSR above 5, they may rest at the campfire and set their HSR to 5, at any time.

A more permanent solution to the problem of unidling or new players.

Even now, bodies wash ashore.

Proposal: That’s No Pig

To “Hallucinations”, add:-

If a proposal has the tag “Hallucination” and its only proposed change to the ruleset and gamestate is the repeal of a single dynastic rule which has no subrules, it is considered a Hallucination Proposal. If a Castaway’s HSR is greater than the HSR of a Hallucination Proposal’s proposer, their vote on that Proposal is considered to be FOR (even if they have not voted on it, or have cast a different vote).

Proposal: “No not there, over HERE!”

Reached quorum 4 votes to 1. Enacted by Kevan.

In the sub-rule “The Beach”, change the text:

The Castaways named Brendan, Kevan, pokes, Quincunx, Thunder, TyGuy6 and ubq323 are all here.

to:

The Castaways named Brendan, Farsight, Kevan, pokes, Quincunx, Thunder, TyGuy6 and ubq323 are all here.

Proposal: Is This a +1 Combat Bonus I See Before Me?

Reached quorum 6 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan.

Replace “A tool and a weapon(+1 to combat).” with “A tool, might be useful in a fight.”

Replace “A weapon(+2 to combat)” with “A sharp blade.”

Remove the “Explore the island” date action.

Enact a new rule, “Story Points”:-

Each Castaway has a number of Story Points, tracked in the GNDT as SP, and defaulting to zero.

Mostly curious about attitudes to placeholders: it seems a bit tough (particularly on new and potentially new players) if the ruleset casually refers to stats and mechanics that don’t and have never existed, to the point where a player can waste time performing actions thinking they’ll gain Story Points, but nothing will happen because Story Points don’t exist.

The clearly flagged “Might help to spot a rescue ship on the horizon.” stuff is good, but “+1 to nonexistent stat” and “see this rule which doesn’t exist” seem confusing. I suppose it fits the hallucination theme, but even so.

Proposal: Bring your Watersocks

Reached quorum 4 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan.

From the bullet list in “Workdays”, remove the bullet, “*Salvage a random item from the Wreck. (See The Wreck)”.

Create a subrule of The Island, titled “The Wreck”:

The crashing waves rapidly reduce the once-proud Windfall to flotsam. The contents are scattered, but a few parts of the ship might still be salvageable.

Survivors may, as a Date Action, recover a randomly chosen Item from the following list, (adding it to their Items): Machete, Knife, Sail, TreasureChest, WoodPlanks, Spyglass, Rations, Rations. When Today becomes 17 or greater, all items have been recovered or washed away, and this paragraph is removed.

Append the following to “Items”:

Machete: A tool and a weapon(+1 to combat). The owner gains an additional 1 wood whenever they gather wood.

Knife: A weapon(+2 to combat)

Sail: Owner may remove it when constructing a shelter instead of paying the cost in wood.

TreasureChest: A wooden chest filled with valuables, doubtless only useful if rescued. Owner may remove it to gain 5 Story Points.

WoodPlanks: Owner may remove it to gain 4 wood.

Spyglass: Might help to spot a rescue ship on the horizon.

Rations: Owner may remove it to decrease any Castaway’s hunger by 2, to a minimum of 0.

Add a new rule called “Complexity” as follows:

The Complexity of a Dynastic Rule is equal to the number of paragraphs in that rule, not counting headers or lists. Only a rule which is nested exactly one level under the heading of “Dynastic Rules” in the Ruleset has a Complexity calculated in this way; subrules to any such rule have the same Complexity as their parent rule.

If a Castaway’s HSR is greater than than the Complexity of a Dynastic Rule, they may not take any dynastic actions defined by that rule.

Simple schemes are for simple fools, he cackled.

Self-killed. Failed by Kevan.

If a rule called “Reality” exists, append to it the following:

If a Castaway’s HSR is greater than the Reality of a rule, they may not take dynastic actions defined by that rule.

Two Small Palm Trees

Quincunx and ubq323 idle out after seven and eleven days of inactivity respectively. Quorum drops to 4.

Proposal: “Over here!”

Fewer than a quorum not voting against. Failed 2-4 by Kevan.

If the proposal “Wish you were here” has enacted, add “Farsight” to the list of Castaways.

I was taking a leak during the last head-count.

Add a bullet point to the list of Date Actions.

*Search for Little Mac by making a DICE20 search in the GNDT. On a result of 1-19 the search fails; a result of 20 means that Little Mac has been found.

Make a rule called “Little Mac”:
Little Mac is a fellow explorer who has got separated from us. A Castaway may search for Little Mac by using a Date Action.

I thought this rule would fit nicely with the flavour of the dynasty. Searching for Little Mac currently has no benefit, but we could alter the rule later once we have a better idea of what a suitable reward would be.

Proposal: Your Days are Numbered

Reached quorum 5 votes to 1. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 13 Sep 2019 15:33:38 UTC

Enact a rule, “Workdays”, as follows:

‘Today’ is defined as the number of days the current date is beyond August 31, 2019. (For example, on September 12, Today would be 12.)

Each Castaway has a Date value, a number tracked in the GNDT, which defaults to the current value of Today minus 1.

A Castaway may perform a Date Action by increasing their Date by 1, so long as their Date is less than Today. Date Actions include the following:
*Gather an amount of wood, randomly determined between 1 and 4, inclusive.
*Salvage a random item from the Wreck. (See The Wreck)
*Explore the island, choosing an exploration event at random, and increasing their Date by an extra 2 for time spent returning. (See Exploration)
*Construct, spending the appropriate amount of wood. (See Construction)
*Rest in their shelter to reduce their HSR by 1. (Not possible unless they have a shelter.)

Enact a rule, “Construction”, as follows:

A Castaway has a number of wood, tracked in the GNDT as Wood.

To Construct is to spend wood to create one of the following:
*A level X shelter, recorded in their Items as shelterX, where X is 2 plus the highest level of their current shelter, or 2 if they have no shelter. This shelter replaces any old shelters, and costs X wood.
*A part of the Message in the Sand. This costs any positive amount of wood, and the message is completed (and can’t be added to) once 50 or more Wood is spent in total by the Castaways. Castaways receive 1 Story Point per 2 wood they spend (at once) on this project. Total spent is recorded here: 0
*A part of the Giant Bonfire. This costs any positive amount of wood, and the Giant Bonfire is completed (and can’t be added to) once 100 or more Wood is spent in total by the Castaways. Castaways receive 1 Story Point per 5 wood they spend (at once) on this project. Total spent is recorded here: 0

Enact a Rule, “Items”, as follows:

Castaways may have one or more Items, recorded as a list of their names in the GNDT under “Items”. Descriptions/effects of Items may be listed here by name:

Leaving several loose ends, here, such as Story Points, open to others’ interpretation in later Proposals.

BTW, I am basing my theme on a certain favorite coop board game of mine, also named Castaways.

Proposal: Coconot

Reaches quorum, 5-0. Has no effect. Enacted by pokes.

Adminned at 12 Sep 2019 21:20:49 UTC

If any of “Hunger”, “The Island”, and “Reality” are not Dynastic Rules, this Proposal has no effect.

Add a subrule of “The Island” called “Coconut Grove”, with a Reality score of 4:

A spring of pristine freshwater surrounded by a dazzling array of tropical fruits. The coconuts are a local variant with a particularly thin and easily splittable shell.

If a Castaway is at this location, they may reduce their Hunger by 2 as a daily action.

Proposal: Good thing it’s not Giant Leaping Pigs

Reaches quorum, 6-0. Enacted by pokes.

Adminned at 12 Sep 2019 21:17:54 UTC

Add a new rule, “Hunger”:

Each Castaway has a Hunger, tracked in the GNDT as “Hunger”. As a weekly communal action, any Castaway may increase the Hunger of all Castaways by 2. When a Castaway unidles or joins and has not been active during this Dynasty, their Hunger is set to the median of all other Castaways. When a Castaway unidles and has been active during this Dynasty, their Hunger is set to be equal to the highest Hunger of all other Castaways.

To that, add a subrule, “The Hunt”:

If they have not done so in the last 72 hours, a Castaway may try to arrange a hunt of a Wild Gaudy Pig (Sus Splendidus), native to the island. To do so, they make a post to the blog that unambiguously indicates that they are going hunting. If a different Castaway makes a comment on that post that unambiguously indicates that they will assist in the hunt within 24 hours, the first Castaway to make this comment has successfully hunted. Upon doing so, the commenting Castaway may decrease, by 1 to a minimum of 0, the Hunger of each of a subset of Castaways of their choosing.

Set all Castaways’ Hunger to 1.

Proposal: Wish You Were Here

Reaches quorum, 6-0. Enacted by pokes.

Enact a new rule, “The Island”:-

The Island is a strange and largely unexplored place. Each subrule of this rule is a Location that the Castaways have found, or believe that they have found.

Add a subrule of “The Island” called “The Beach”:-

A sweeping expanse of flat, pale sand, broken up by jagged black rocks on the southern side. A small campfire has been built from a few shattered planks and spars of The Windfall.

If a Castaway is at the Beach and has an HSR above 5, they may rest at the campfire and set their HSR to 5, at any time.

The Castaways named Brendan, Kevan, pokes, Quincunx, Thunder, TyGuy6 and ubq323 are all here.

Proposal: The Isle is Full of Noises

Becomes unpopular, 2-4. Failed by pokes.

Adminned at 12 Sep 2019 21:12:37 UTC

Enact a new rule, “Reality”:-

Each dynastic rule has a Reality score, being a non-negative integer defaulting to 10, and tracked at the end of the rule’s name in square brackets. (The bracketed score may be omitted when referring to a rule by name.) A Reality score of 10 indicates that the rule is considered objectively true and trusted; a lower score indicates that it could yet prove to be illusory.

Whenever a dynastic rule is enacted or amended, its Reality score is set to 10 minus the lowest Hallucination Severity Rating among the Castaways who voted in favour of the proposal that enacted or amended it.

Set the Reality score of the “Hallucinations” and “Reality” rules to 10.

Proposal: Is it unconventionally early?

Reached quorum 5 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 12 Sep 2019 08:27:04 UTC

Add a new rule entitled “Hallucinations” as follows:

Each Castaway has a Hallucination Severity Rating, which is an integer value ranging from 0 to 7 (inclusive), and which defaults to 1. This is tracked in the GNDT as “HSR,” and references to “HSR” in the Dynastic Rules are understood to mean Hallucination Severity Rating.

If there is a Traitor, the Traitor may choose to use their recorded GNDT score for HSR, or use an HSR of 7, when they take actions under the Dynastic Rules.

Ascension Address: Shipwrecked!

Change “Admiral” to “Weatherman” and “Captain” to “Castaway” throughout the ruleset. Repeal all dynastic rules.

As crew to an exploration vessel, The Windfall, you’ve left behind the tyrannical rule and tentative peace of the quasi-mad Admiral TyGuy6, to brave new dangers and seek new wonders. But only weeks after departing the territories of the Island Nations, you find yourselves in a battle for survival! The Windfall is now a wreck, and what’s left of its crew and passengers have washed up on a strange island. Your mission of exploration continues here…

Declaration of Victory: Psychopath to Diplomat

Reached quorum 4 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 10 Sep 2019 08:00:52 UTC

As per Armistice, I have achieved victory.

Story Post: The Captain becomes an Admiral

“Sir!”

Captain TyGuy6 turned away from the rail and set his stern gaze on the young Signalman.

“Message from the Admiralty Sir, the enemy have accepted our terms - victory is ours Sir!”

Captain TyGuy6 allowed himself the smallest of smiles before dismissing the lad and gazing out to sea once more.
As the ocean wind buffeted him, he wondered mildly if he should order a new hat for the promotion ceremony…

Reword the Armistice rule to:-

The Captain named TyGuy6 has achieved Victory.

TyGuy’s lead seems realistically unassailable at this point, maybe it’s time to cut to the chase.

Story Post: The Fifteenth Watch

Story Post: Thunder on the Ocean

“Hard to port! Engines all ahead full!” roared Captain Thunder to his crew, before turning back to the periscope. The Battleship Tyler loomed in his vision, a floating fortress of steel and fire. “Ready tubes one to four!” A red warning light flashed and a klaxon howled mournfully as the torpedo tubes filled with water, preparing to unleash their deadly loads.

wwwweeeeeeeeBOOOOM!!!

Thunder was thrown to the rusty deckplate as a huge explosion rocked the whole vessel.

“Report!” he yelled, staggering to his feet.

“The Tyler has seen us Captain, she’s firing on us! We’re hit on the aft quarter and shipping water, we’re done for!”

A mad gleam shone from Thunder’s eyes in the gloom of the old submarine. “Not while I’m Captain here. Prepare to fire all torpedoes.”

“Torpedo tubes have lost pressure Sir, we can’t fire!”

“Niet! Then prepare for ramming speed!” Thunder threw the helmsman bodily aside and seized the wheel with a mad laugh. “Perhaps today IS a good day to die!”

wwwweeeeeeeeBOOOOM!!!

But it was not to be; Captain TyGuy6 continued to rain shells on to the Red October’s position, denying Captain Thunder his victory, but granting him a glorious death in honourable battle.

Story Post: The Fourteenth Watch

More good hunting for TyGuy6, as he sinks the elusive Red October!

The fourteenth Watch begins at 20:48pm 5/9/19, and ends 20:48pm 7/9/19; Orders to the Admiral before the end of the Watch.

This Watch saw Thunder build himself another transport, while TyGuy6 and Kevan cruised into firing positions.

Proposal: Engine Upgrades

Timed out 1 vote to 2. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 03 Sep 2019 11:18:06 UTC

Add to the rule “The Watch”:

Change the text:

- Make a valid Move with a vessel they control.
- Have a Battleship they control Shoot at up to 2 squares. (A Battleship cannot Shoot at a square adjacent to the square it is located in; a Battleship can choose to shoot at the same square twice. Battleships Shoot a Manhattan distance.)
- Have a Submarine they control Shoot at up to 1 square; this square must be from a single row (if the Submarine is Facing East (E) or West (W)) or column (if the Submarine is Facing North (N) or South (S)) which is directly between the Submarine and the grid edge the Submarine is Facing.
- Have a Minelayer they control Place at up to 1 square.

To the text:

- Make up to one valid Move with a vessel they control and make up to one valid Shot with the same vessel
The following three bullet points are valid Shots:

This change would allow a Vessel to move and shoot in the same Watch, which would hopefully speed things up a bit.

Story Post: The Twelfth Watch

A quiet watch this time, with only three orders given. The fearsome captain TyGuy6 sinks Thunder’s transport even as it sits in it’s dock, while Kevan goes diving for sunken treasure.

The twelfth Watch begins at 08:10am 1/9/19, and ends 08:10am 3/9/19; Orders to the Admiral before the end of the Watch.
