Proposal: A Boost for All Snails

Reached quorum, 4-1. Enacted by JonathanDark.

Adminned at 17 Dec 2024 19:08:49 UTC

The Race grows fiercer, and Snails need every bit of encouragement to push toward victory. This Proposal ensures no Snail gets left behind, while revitalizing the competition with new energy and balance.

Amend the gamestate as follows:

  1. Boost for Active Snails:

    • For Snails already on the Track (excluding Slugs), increase their Position as follows:

      • Snails with a Position greater than 50 cm: +2 cm
      •
      • Snails with a Position between 10 and 50 cm: +5 cm
      •
      • Snails with a Position less than 10 cm: +7 cm
      •
      • The Snail with the lowest Position (excluding Slugs) is boosted to a Position of 1 cm ahead of the Slug of Death.
      •

    •

  2.

  3. Welcome New Competitors:

    • Move all Snails currently in the Bucket to the Track with a starting Position of DICE10 + 5 cm.
    •

  4.

  5. Shared Motivation:

    • Each Snail (excluding Slugs) gains 2 Fame to recognize their renewed effort in the Race.
    •

Rationale:
This Proposal achieves several goals:

  • Filling out the mechanics: By adding targeted Position boosts, it creates meaningful progression and competition for every Snail on the Track.
  •
  • Fairness: The boost ensures that no active Snail remains hopelessly behind while still respecting the competitive spirit of the Race.
  •
  • Engagement: Including Snails in the Bucket gives new players an immediate reason to participate, while the Fame reward makes this boost exciting for all.
  •

And so, the Snails press on with newfound determination, as fresh challengers rise from the Bucket and the slowest racer pulls ahead of the looming shadow of the Slug of Death!

A note on formatting: you can use < blockquote > and < /blockquote > tags to enclose text in a black box if you want things to look prettier!

Also, when you press the ‘post’ button on a new proposal, the timestamp it puts on the proposal is the time you opened the form. It looks like you kept the proposal form open for a while before posting, so when you posted the proposal it was already 12 hours old. Generally it’s a good idea to write the proposal somewhere else and then copy and paste it into the form on the site to keep this from happening. It shouldn’t have any effect on the actual time it takes for your proposal to enact (since as far as the ruleset is concerned the timer starts when you press the ‘post’ button), but it does mess up the timestamps and make things hard to keep track of for the admins.

It also bypasses the 4-hour edit window, so technically you can no longer edit the Proposal.

On the content itself, I’m reluctant to vote for this. I have more Fame than I will probably ever need, so it’s against my interests to award others Fame—why would I want them to be closer to affording Equipment? against, though I’d vote for a simpler version that just puts you guys in the game.

On a second thought, maybe this sort of finicky minmax-self-advantage voting is too aggressive for a proposal clearly aimed at putting new players in the game (and especially the first proposal made by a new player!) CoV for, for the sake of hopefully increasing the number of active players

Also for for the same reason. At this point, I’m the only one that can finish the Race, and while there’s some satisfaction in that, it’s also dull. This will get everyone currently playing back in the Race and get some new people too. Maybe folks will take the second-chance opportunity?

The blockquote tags are usually used for replacements to ruletext, and none of the changes in this proposal are ruletext replacements, so it would look odd with them imo

Hmm. So what does that mean? I’m kinda confused…

I had to reread this thread a few times. Got it

imperial Because voting FOR would be unfair.
