Proposal: A New {Cat/Mouse} Emerges

Can’t reach quorum with 19 votes against. Failed by Kevan.

Add a subrule to Rule 2.4 (Cat and Mouse) titled “The Bird Has Left the Nest” which reads as follows:

Should either the Detective or Murderer go Idle, the Guest loses the distinction of being Murderer or Detective, the Executor shall make a blog post as soon as possible announcing that the Idling Guest was the {detective/murderer} and then shall randomly select and notify a new Guest to fill the vacant role. This selected Guest may not already be the Murderer or Detective.

If we have to deal with the risk of Idling, while the concept of having the hostile or friendly in a completely different situation/room/whatever is a bit haphazard, the other possibility, the complete absence of a role, is just plain broken.

I think a public discussion is in order to decide how to deal with this issue, once we know just how the Dynasty is going to work.  Currently, nothing bad will happen if the Murderer idles.  This might not be a good solution to the issue, so for now: against

(Note that if Rune Master Xan was the Murderer or Detective, this will not trigger, as he has already been idled.)

for on similar reasoning to Hix, actually. It seems easier to have a sensible Murderer mechanic if we know there’ll always be a Murderer, than if we allow for idling.

against It feels wrong, at the moment, that someone would stop being the murderer if they idled for a few days and came back. (Don’t forget that people sometimes idle if they’re going on holiday but intending to return.) I think we need to decide what the murderer is actually doing, first.

Ooh- good point. Maybe being idle for more than X days and/or idling by activity timeout would be the only triggers, then.

If the murderer really does go idle, I’d rather Kevan secretly created a second murderer.  More fun, way trickier, and consistent with the plots of many mystery movels.  You know, the Governess who incorrectly thinks her young pupil is the murderer, and accidentlly kills a reporter who is sniffing around, something silly like that.
