Proposal: A way to strategize combat

I propose the following rule be added to “Hunting”:

Each hunter has health tracked in GNDT, defaulting to 7 health. A hunter may choose to challenge the monster instead of the normal hunting method. When challenging a monster, the hunter and the monster take turns attacking each other (but only actually execute their attack when their speed says so). The hunter chooses from the following attacks: Strike (speed 2, attack 5 damage), Push (speed 5, attack 2 damage), and Guard (speed 1, attack 4 damage, protect from 1 damage from each attack until you retaliate). The monster has a random speed value from 1 to 6, and attack from 1 to 3 (this value is boosted by 1 if speed is 1) damaging the hunter’s life). If their speeds are equal, the hunter attacks first. If their speeds differ by more than 3, the faster character attacks again (this cannot occur more than twice). If a hunter loses during a challenge, they respawn and cannot hunt for at least 4 hours.

The advantages of challenging a monster is greater reaps. Instead of rolling a die from 0 to 10, a hunter rolls 5 to 10, should they successfully kill the monster.

against far too confusing. I honestly don’t understand how speed works

Lets not get into the weeds here. All we really care about is did they die, did we die, and was anyone injured?

against Agree with derrick. We should start simple if we want to introduce a combat mechanic, adding fun and interesting twists to it as time goes along.
