Proposal: All is Sand

If the Doctor votes against this proposal, this proposal has no effect.

Replace “Eternities Map” with “Mandala” throughout the ruleset.

Replace “Dark Matter” with “Sand” throughout the ruleset.

Replace “Time Machine” with “Scaffold Rig”. Rename “TARDIS” to “Levitation”, “De Lorean” to “Pulley” and “Wellsian” to “Bamboo”.

Rename “Historical Dynasties” to “Glyphs” and reword it to:-

Aspects of the continuum that interest the Time Buddhas are recorded as Glyphs. The ‘Glyphs’ wiki page tracks the information about each Glyph. Each Glyph has a number, a one-word name and a description. The number of a Glyph refers to a past BlogNomic Dynasty that it has some connection to.

Create the Glyphs wiki page (or blank it if it is created) and add one Glyph with the number “1”, the name “Karma” and the description “A network of lines leaving and rejoining a human silhouette.”.

In the rules “Causal Links” and “The Mandala”, replace “Historical Dynasty”, “Dynasty” and “Dynsaty” with “Glyph”. Remove the words “set it to Paradoxed,”.

Replace “The Mandala is a 10x10 grid containing the numbers from 1 to 100, corresponding to each of the Historical Dynasties.” with:-

The Mandala is a 10x10 grid, each square of which may either contain one Glyph or be Empty. If a square of the Mandala contains a Glyph, this is notated with the name of that Glyph.

Upon creation of the Mandala, all of its squares shall be Empty.

Replace “navigate to” with “focus upon” throughout the ruleset.

Rename “Timeline Repaired!” to “Washing Away”. In the rule, replace “If every Glyph is Repaired” with:-

If every square of the Mandala contains a Glyph

Per my comments on Geronimo!, it seems a bit of a shame to have a second “Monks Use Time-Travel Technology to Visit Earlier Dynasties” theme, after 100 dynasties of never repeating ourselves. This reskins it as collaborating on a giant sand mandala of interconnecting concepts (each drawn loosely from a past dynasty) - the only mechanical changes are that the grid starts empty and we have to define the possible contents as we go, and to drop the Broken/Paradox/Repaired status, which didn’t quite fit and didn’t seem worth stretching.

A little unnervingly, the Wikipedia article claims that sand mandalas were historically made from “granules of crushed coloured stone”. Is this what we’ve been building up to all along?

How does this work with the navigation? You’re still navigating to various dynasties…

“Replace “navigate to” with “focus upon” throughout the ruleset” - we are suspended above an enormous mandala and only working on a small section at a time. Although ah, I should also have replaced “navigate shall” and “navigation”.

“The wiki page ‘Mandala’ contains the Mandala’. The Mandala is a 10x10 grid, each square of which may either contain one Glyph or be Empty. If a square of the Mandala contains a Glyph, this is notated with the name of that Glyph. The Mandala wraps at the edges. Unless otherwise specified, two Dynasties are adjacent if they are orthogonally or diagonally adjacent on the Mandala.”

“The Dynasty to which they navigate shall be the Dynasty corresponding to the Nth ‘X’ or ‘O’ character in their Scaffold Rig’s Precision Matrix (going from left to right, then top to bottom) when the Precision Matrix is overlaid on the Mandala with the ‘X’ above the Reference Point.”

So are the spaces of the Mandala dynasties or glyphs? Even if you fixed the Dynasties/Glyphs, you’re still navigating the Dynasties so its rather confusing and probably broken.

Actually,  against, because this should replace “Time Buddhas” and “Doctor” as well; they make less sense outside of the “cleaning up the timeline” theme.

for Fine, then that can be proposed as well.

Although for the record, we have had dynasties that were sequels to the one directly preceding them before - dynasties 1 and 2 are an example, and there are a few more that are a bit more notional dotted throughout.

I don’t particularly like this particular theme. But I’m not going to object to reskinning the dynasty if BN wants to.

So I am not vetoing this because I will take this as an informal vote to change the theme. If it passes (or possibly sooner, but at the very least once my slots free up), I will propose an alternate retheming of the mechanics, once I think of one.

Kudos to Kevan for the effort, though.

(also, please vote FOR if you like the idea of changing the theme but dislike the implementation, since my vote will cause the proposal to fail)

Thanks, Kevan.
