Proposal: Ascension By Criteria refactor

enacted 7-4 by chiiika.

Adminned at 02 Jun 2023 18:42:29 UTC

In the rule “Levels of Reality”, change

A Mindjacker may not Ascend unless they meet the Ascension Criteria in every Tier they are affected by.

to

A Mindjacker may not Ascend unless they meet all the Ascension Criteria in every Tier they are affected by, excluding Tier 0. If a Tier other than Tier 0 has no defined Ascension Criteria, no Mindjacker affected by that Tier may Ascend.

and remove

A Mindjacker may not Ascend more than once in any 24 hour period.

Add a new subrule to the rule “Tier 1: Techno-Witch Reality”. Call it “Ascension Timer” and give it the following text:

The sole Ascention Criterion for Tier 1 is to have continuously been on one’s current Level for the preceding 24 hours.

Criteron should be Criteria

I stand by my use of Criterion.

But not by my ability to spell it; good catch.

“Tier 0” is weird. do you predict that that’ll be made a thing?

I think the Prioritisation rule in the Appendix would still allow Mindjacking to bypass the “all Criteria” phrase because it’s a more limited scope. It allows Ascending given a very specific set of conditions. Just food for thought in case you wanted Mindjacking to be bound by other Criteria for each Tier.

Tier 0 already exists, although it doesn’t have rules associated with it. Level 0 does not exist.

Hmm, technically Tier is not even defined as holding a numeric value, though I suppose it’s implied by statements like “Tier is equal to or lower than their Level” and “the higher-Tiered rule has priority over the lower”.

Does “A Mindjacker may not Ascend unless they meet all the Ascension Criteria in every Tier they are affected by, excluding Tier 0.” carry an implicit “...in which case they may Ascend”?

Read in the spirit of BlogNomic’s use of “may” to mean “can and may”, this would mean that every player could go directly to Level 2.

I don’t mind Ascension from tier 1 to 2 being essentially free; I like having something in the gamestate that visibly separates who is actually playing and has read the ruleset from those who haven’t

I don’t think Mindjackers can just ascend without something giving them explicit permission. Ascension Criteria, after this proposal, will only say when they can’t ascend and I don’t think that’s good enough.

I’ll believe you on this one.
