Proposal: Astragalomancy

Timed Out. Passes 7 - 0—- Clucky

Adminned at 07 Jun 2020 16:50:39 UTC

After “The Name of a Segment is flavor text and no two Segments may have the same Name”, add:-

. Gamblers are strongly encouraged to generate Segment Names at random, when creating new ones.

Remove the Segment named “Annoyingness” from the gamestate.

Ensconcing the tradition of randomising Segment names into the ruleset (although not enforcing it); we almost missed out on the auspiciously generated “Hexagram” in the previous proposal.

Also chucking out an old and unrandomised Segment, which has been more or less superseded by Rising (“Gain 1 Annoyingness”) anyway.

Right now there are only two ways to gain Annoyingness. So removing one of them seems like a bad idea.

They’re basically the same, though. I assume people are only wagering both right now because they don’t want to split their bet and risk someone out-Annoying them by winning the other of the two Segments.

But you’re moving the odds of getting a spin that generates annoyingness from 20% to 11%

I can’t see that there’s an obvious sweet spot for how rare Annoyingness should be as a resource, or that 20% is inherently better than 11%. It works if Annoyingness is occasional and valuable, it works if it’s plentiful and people are throwing it around.

20% feels a about right to me. That keeps it rare, but not so rare it never gets used. 11% you might only see it come up once or twice the entire dynasty.
