Out-of-arena squares are blocked.
A Square is considered Blocked if it is not inside the bounds of the Arena, it contains a Gladiator, or it contains anything the rules declare to be a Large Object.

I think that’s possibly just a hangover from Bucky’s original proposal to have a “K0” square to contain everyone who’s not in the Arena. There are no Squares in the game other than the 9x9 grid defined to make up the Arena.

It was my fault for accidentally cutting the “Blocked”, but we do need both.

Kevan - I thought that at first but it’s not actually clear that that’s the case. We specifically know that squares inside the arena have grid references, but it’s not clear or explicit that those are the only squares, and it is in fact implicit that there are squares outside the arena that don’t have grid references at all.  External squares are not currently prohibited by the ruleset, they simply aren’t referred to.

Under the current wording, this proposal is much safer. It’s unclear as to whether external squares exist or not, but it is explicit that if they do exist, they are blocked. Meanwhile, the Blood rule has no provision for sliding into another Gladiator or similarly blocked square.
