7-1.  Reaches quorum. —Excalabur

Add the following spell to the spell list in 2.5.1:

The spell Kingmaker has “PROUST” as its activation sequence.  Its effect is “The partner of this Apprentice, if not ineligible for any other reason, may declare victory.”

against . They may already declare victory.  I think you mean they have achieved victory.

No, they mayn’t, not unless they believe they have achieved victory for some other reason.  This explicitly allows a DoV upon ‘casting’ if said partner opts to do so.

This wording has been accepted in the past.  My memory tells me that we used to use it a lot, but I don’t actually remember.  I feel that a spell that says that so-and-so achieves victory is actually much more problematic unless it’s a conditional ‘may achieve victory’ (which sounds terrible), since it interacts poorly with the victory and ascension rule.

While Bucky has a point, as long as a sufficient number of Apprentice’s support the DoV, it wouldn’t matter. I mean, the rules say that you can call a DoV if you believe you have achieved Victory. If there are no conditions stating when Victory occurs, there’s nothing preventing you from just deciding you’ve won… right?

Also, what happens if the casting Apprentice’s partner changes? Shouldn’t the text read “The partner of this Apprentice at the time of casting, if not ineligible for any other reason, may declare victory.”

The Partner couldn’t change during a hiatus.

There wouldn’t be a hiatus if the Partner didn’t declare victory. Example:

01:05 - Bucky casts PROUST
02:10 - tecslicer casts SOUP and makes himself Bucky’s partner
02:11 - tecslicer makes a DoV
03:36 - Darknight logs on and realizes he missed out on his window.

As written, I believe the current proposal allows this to happen.

@NOI - yes, and that is awesome (and a large part of why I voted for )

Klisz:

@NOI: You have a point; but see Bucky’s DoV that let him have this dynasty. In short, Darknight would still be able to win.

Wow… so technically, anyone who was the caster’s partner at the time of casting, as well as anyone who became the partner’s caster at ANY point after that, would be eligible to declare victory. Intriguing…

Klisz:

And then the first one whose DoV succeeded would lead the next dynasty.

I like the sound of this, even if SOUP is a hard string to get.

Nope, NOW it’s 6-1, Ienpw III went idle, so his vote doesn’t count anymore.
