Proposal: Burnout

Timed out, 4-2 with 2 DEFs and Battle Master voting AGAINST. Failed by JonathanDark.

In “Personality Traits”, replace “A Wizard’s Personality Trait is Dominant if it exceeds all their other Personality Traits.” with:-

A Wizard’s Personality Trait is Extreme if it is at least three higher than all of their other Personality Traits.

Then add a second bullet point after the first in “Commencing a Duel”:-

* For each Wizard who has selected a spell with a Trait that matches their own Extreme Trait, that Wizard is overloaded - their chosen spell is changed to Fizzle.

Remove “, minus one (to a minimum of zero) if any of the Spell’s Traits is their dominant Personality Trait”.

Ramping up the penalty for excessive specialisation from “minor charm reduction” to “you really have to cast some other spells”.

I’d be down for this as an additional thing, but I like the soft penalty for being out of balance too.

Why not both?

Seemed redundant. If there’s a penalty for being 3 steps ahead on a number, it’s also still a mildly bad idea to take that first step ahead on it.

I like the current soft penalty more than I like this

against I would honestly rather give a bonus for having a higher score in one personality trait, like you specialize in a certain type of spell.

[Zack] There’s a spectrum of complexity in BlogNomic where at the low end any move (even a blank one) is valid, and at the high end every move has to be calculated and considered at great length. I think we need to get up into the middle ground more, to get out of the zone where a single player choosing moves at random can still significantly influence the dynasty’s outcome.

How does this stop people choosing moves at random?

Really it just shows down people spamming certain moves. But that doesn’t seem entirely fair, given selfish and belligerent moves tend to be a lot more popular (probably because they are the ones that put you ahead or put other players behind)

Part of my worry with this is that it disadvantages players who are already +2 on either selfishness or belligerence as they now have a lot less room to cast those spells in remaining rounds of the dynasty
