Proposal: But What Does It Do?

Timed out and passed, 9-0. Josh

In the ruleset, replace “Each Machine has a name of the form “The X Machine”, and a number from 1 to 100. Each Machine is additionally Broken, Jammed, or Repaired, initially Broken.” with:-

Each Machine has a number from 1 to 100, and is either Shrouded, Broken, Jammed, or Repaired. Each non-Dismantled Machine has a name of the form “The X Machine”, where X is either a one-word Noun or a one-word Gerund (if X is a word which may be either a Noun or Gerund, it is only considered to be a Gerund); each Shrouded Machine is named “-”.

As a subrule of Rule 2.2, add a subrule called “Naming Machines”:-

A Worker may, as a daily Action, spend 1 Quota to activate a Machine and Remove its Dust Sheet. Upon doing so, if the Machine is Shrouded then it becomes Broken, and its name becomes “The X Machine”, where X is a one-word Noun of the Worker’s choice, or a one-word Gerund form of a verb of the Worker’s choice, the noun or verb being taken from the Dynastic Rules of the BlogNomic Dynasty whose number corresponds to the number of the Machine.

Set all Machines to “Shrouded”.

What is dismantled?

I think it means that when a machine is dismantled, it is either shrouded, broken, or jammed.

Ah, a mistake - I changed the keyword to a more in-theme “Shrouded” when I saw your proposal about everything being on wheels, but evidently missed that one.

for anyway since I think all machines are non-Dismantled.

It means that Shrouded machines have two names (one of which does not have a set value for “X” defined), but I guess the contradiction is resolved by “the part with more limited scope applies” of 3.3.6, so they’re named “-” after all.

imperial but what does it do? :) What do you plan to do with Machine names?

I think that while “Dismantled” is not specified in the list of Machine states, no Machine may be Dismantled.

Kevan: Also, I can establish Power Links and the like from Shrouded machines. Intentional?

[quirck] Oh, it doesn’t matter what my plans are, or if I even have any - this is a nomic, anyone can take the ball and run with it.

[scshunt] Intentional that I didn’t try to change too much with one proposal, but no great logic behind it.

More generally, while “dismantled” is not defined by the rules, no machine is dismantled. It might turn out to be some additional state that’s orthogonal to the (unnamed) Broken/etc. state, e.g. “each Machine is either Assembled or Dismantled”.

By the way, Murphy still seems to be idle, though he has announced that he unidles.
