Proposal: Calling All Black Hats

Timed out and failed, 4-1, with one unresolved DEF. Josh

Create a new Institution, named “The Hacker” reading:

When a player influences the Hacker, the number of credits that every other player has directed towards an institution is reduced by 1 for each institution they have directed credits towards during that cycle.

I think this is worded right (though it probably isn’t), if you see a problem just let me know.
The idea behind this is that every other player will lose 1 credit of those they directed towards institutions during that cycle for each institution.

against this is pretty close to “no one else gets to restock”, which seems overpowered - how about losing 1 credit for every 2 such institutions?

against It also has no effect, as it’s the last Institution to be processed each Cycle.

Very true to both of those points, we may be able to do some variation of this though, I’ll think of some way to change it (or someone else can propose if they want).

(Issue to be fixed: the Hacker needs to be resolved before every other Institution. In other words the Hacker’s definition must be moved to the top of the list of Institutions.)

Anyway, the wording is wrong. “The number of credits that every other player has directed toward an Institution” is the total amount of credits directed by that player, and the Hacker reduces that number by N where N is the number of Institutions that player Directed credits to, but not where specifically which Institutions those credits are taken from.

Additionally, I think you need to substitute “each” for “every” in “the number of credits that every other player has directed…”.
This may just be me not being a native speaker, but I think it currently means that every other player has directed the same number of credits towards an Institution.

Create a new Institution, “The Hacker”, its description reading:
“When a Player Influences the Hacker: for every Institution and for every other Player, if that Player has Directed a positive number of Credits to that Institution this cycle, that number is reduced by one.”
Move the Hacker to the top of the list.
Then move the Public to the top of the list.
***
(The Public line is optional, but I think the Hacker should not prevent anyone from Influencing the Public.)

Anyway, against per Murphy

arrow As I read it that wording would not cause a loss of credits, it would only cause some of the player’s Directed credits to become Undirected and be returned with no effect.

That’s also how I read it.

Oh, I mis-read it, I thought it reduced credit holdings rather than credit directions. My vote stands, though; it needs to be at the top, and also it *is* pretty close to “no one else gets to restock” (because anyone directing 1 credit to something for the restock bonus would get it reduced to 0). Maybe insert “to a minimum of 1”?

When I was writing it I kind of had the idea that nobody would be able to restock, but maybe that’s too overpowered? Maybe it would work better “to a minimum of 1” like Murphy says.
