Proposal: Civilians for Life

Reached quorum 7 votes to 2. Enacted by Kevan.

In the rule “The Break-In” add a subrule named “Reminders” with the following text:

Remind is an action in which the Concierge sends a private communication to every Agent with a blank Route where that communication contains a reminder for that Agent to set their Location and Route. If half of the Agents (rounded down) or less have a blank Route, at their earliest convenience the Concierge should perform Remind if the Concierge has not done so since the last time Breaking In was performed or since the start of this dynasty, whichever is most recent.

Breaking In will undoubtedly get held up by a few Agents who aren’t performing any dynastic actions, so this is just a one-time-per-Breaking-In reminder to those Agents. This also covers the case where an Agent legitimately just forgets to set their Route due to other distractions.

Since this only happens after half the Agents have submitted a Route, this will only start occurring once half the Agents feel like enough mechanics are in place to start setting their Routes, so it shouldn’t happen too early in theory.

I personally might even say that three quarters isn’t an unreasonable bar here rather than one half, since half the players could just be one of the teams still figuring out a game plan. I feel like it could also use a time-based clause to prevent a reminder from happening too early rushing people but that could be a matter of preference

I don’t want to overcomplicate it. If half the players are getting in routes really quickly and the Reminder happens “early”, that’s just a signal to the others that half the player base is playing at a faster pace than the others.

I thought about having an “interval”, like every 48 hours, but that felt too burdensome.

@Kevan if you feel like even this is too much of an information leak or too pushy for players to play faster, go ahead and veto.

Half-plus-one, maybe? I see TDS’ point about it just being meaningless if the two teams gravitate towards strategising as a group.

Too late to edit now. I’m open to revise or pass-and-patch. I’d rather folks not vote against unless you just don’t like the idea of reminders at all.

arrow I think Half-Plus-Two would be best, since if we have an uneven number of players, Half-Plus-One could still lead to early notifications if one team submits at once. Other than that, it seems good to me.

for  We can put it up to half plus one later, but currently I can’t see any actual harm from early info. Even if you know a whole team is ready, how does that help the other team?

(On the question of half plus one vs half plus two, we actually have even teams since Kevan can’t be on a team.)

imperial I’m actually going to go with def on this one since it’s Kevin that’ll be doing this and he mentioned not wanting to put excess time pressure into the dynasty

imperial, I’ll leave it to the players to make a call on any information leakage.

[SingularByte] It won’t always be even teams! Players come and go, and according to the Discord Lulu is already “planning on going idle” but hasn’t done so yet.

[Trapdoorspyder] I’m against clock-based deadlines, but would be very much in favour of letting people know what the general game speed was, especially if they were a slow outlier.

arrow FWIW I think this doesn’t leak enough information to solve the problem it’s planning to solve. Knowing the exact times of route submissions is helpful in getting an idea of how active you need to be but not very helpful in actually choosing an action, until it gets down to the last few submissions. Knowing the halfway point is somewhat less useful (and this wording gives an incentive to intentionally delay to be in the second half, to find out when the halfway point it).

Just a quick note that “half-plus-one” or “half-plus-two” with the rule as written would cause the Remind to happen sooner, because the proposed rule is counting the number of Agents with a blank rule. I don’t think that’s what folks wanted.

If I understand the argument correctly, what’s wanted is Reminders sent when half-plus-one or half-plus-two have non-blank Routes. Am I wrong about this?
