Proposal: Clarity

Reached quorum 5 votes to 0 with one Imperial Deferential. Enacted by Kevan.

Create a new subrule to the rule Artefacts, entitled Strong Gin:

Description: A bottle of own-brand supermarket gin. It cannot be opened, either by unscrewing the cap or by breaking the glass. The liquid glows with a bluish-purple hue under ultraviolet light.
Location: The Institute
Protocol: The effect of this artefact must be observed by all Individuals in the same location as it.
Effect: Any Individual in the presence of this artefact becomes instantly Drunk. Drunk Individuals do not receive Physical damage from any source. However, all proposals or EVCs written by a Drunk Individual must be passed through this translator on its “Smashed” setting immediately before being posted. A Drunk Individual may not amend their own proposal for spelling or typographical mistakes (per rule 1.1).

Create a new subrule to the rule Artefacts, entitled Beer Googles:

Description: A pair of novelty glasses with what appears to be beer in the lenses. It is branded with the logo of a well-known internet search company.
Location: Jerez
Protocol: None
Effect: The Individual who possesses this artefact may post, as a comment to a proposal by a Drunk Individual, their interpretation of the text of that proposal. If the proposal is enacted then that interpretation is the text that must be added to the ruleset, rather than the original text of the proposal itself. If several interpretations exist on a single proposal then the first one posted is the one that is adopted.

If Proposal: A Europewide Search passed, instead set the Location of Strong Gin to Bergen and the Beer Googles to Eindhoven.

“Physical damage” is ambiguous (definitely Flesh, presumably not Soul, but maybe Reality?) and it could be clearer whether standing next to a Gin-holder counts as being “in the presence” of it. That DEF is just a “players decide”, though.

imo Physical damage isn’t any kind of damage yet because its not explicitly defined.

Ech, should have been Flesh. Sorry, sloppy drafting.

I thiiink Outsiders and Collectors are immune to Strong Gin as written? But since they can’t normally enter the Institute maybe that’s deliberate. I think this is fun and fixable though.  for

@Brendan - why does it only affect Professors? That was also not intentional.

Researchers I mean.

Oooh, Protocols only affect Researchers. Yes, fair enough.

Effects happen regardless, though, don’t they? They’re just ruletext.

A Europewide Search has reached quorum, so per the final clause in the proposal here the Strong Gin is likely to end up in Bergen rather than The Institute.

for Although I think the state of being Drunk, since it seems to be persistent instead of only within the presence of the Artefact, is an Orphaned Variable.
