Proposal: Co-authored by:

Timed out, 1-2 with 2 DEFs. Failed by JonathanDark.

If https://blognomic.com/archive/collecting_ones_notes and https://blognomic.com/archive/finding_the_right_words and https://blognomic.com/archive/fractured_fairy_tales all do not pass, this proposal does nothing

Create a new rule, with the title ‘Chapters’ and the following text:

Each Storyteller has an Author Value, defaulting to the number of active Storytellers. Any storyteller with an Author Value of 1 is known as the Author. Only the Author is allowed to submit a Creative Writing to the Publisher. Once the Author has submitted a Creative Writing, they may take the Atomic Action ‘Next Turn’ with the following steps:

*The Author’s Author Value is set to the number of active Storytellers.

*All other Storytellers’ Author Values are reduced by 1.

If a Storyteller has been the Author for more than 36 hours consecutively, then the Publisher may perform the Next Turn.

If more than two Storytellers have equal Author Values, then the Publisher may perform the Atomic Action ‘Reset Authors’ with the following steps:

*Set all Storytellers’ Author Values to numbers correlating to their usernames’ order in alphabetical order, beginning with 1 for the Storyteller whose username would come first alphabetically, 2 for the Storyteller whose username would come second, and so on.

The current Chapter state and all Storytellers’ Author Values are tracked in Once Upon A Time.

taking turns counts. stops one player spamming the story, and makes it so everyone is allowed to have a go rather than having to adjust their fragment because someone made lots of fragments

It’s too late to edit, but just for clarity, what is the “Chapter state”? The Author Values are explicitly mentioned as being tracked, so what other gamestate is being proposed to be tracked here?

I don’t think this really works with Creative Writing in its current form.

In its current form, we get (in a method to be determined later) some prompts for the next line in the story, send those to Jonathan Dark, and then (in a method to be determined later) they get added to the story.

This doesn’t actually change either of those methods to be determined later, it just adds more rules around when we can submit the next lines to the story.

Is the intent that each line submitted to JonathanDark is supposed to be added to the story? Because that runs into the problem that the current element list won’t always change, so instead of “everyone submit a line that contains the word Strawberry and a Character and we find some way of picking which one gets added to the story” we now add 7 lines about Strawberries to the story in a row which will get rather cluttered. I’m also just not personally a fan of the “everyone takes turns” approach—I’d rather have some selection process in place that helps us select the best line in order to make the best story.

Lastly the timer mechanism in Fractured Fairy Tales also doesn’t work with this, as the “if its been more than 48 hours JonathanDark pokes you to take your turn” still only cares about when the Drawing action was performed

I’m highly tempted to vote for this without reading it; I like to support new players.

I think, however, I don’t like the concept of turns. I agree with Clucky.

I’m thinking, instead, that: the Publisher publishes all creative writings since the last drawing, anonymously, so we only know that which is ours. We vote, similar to a haul, on those writings, and whoever’s it is is given something privately tracked (private so we can never know who truly wins until the end, make it exciting, and truly collaborative: all players will continue to try to tweak their writing, etc.)

I wrote down (but not yet proposed) an idea for scoring that was similar to yours, 4st, except that I had public scores in my idea. I hadn’t thought of tracking the scores privately. That’s an intriguing idea.

Posting now to ensure I don’t idle.

As this is two against and two defers I will abstain until I read the proposals already passed.
